20 Best Socks For Western Boots (2023 Updated)

I love Thorlo socks! I was introduced to Thorlo socks from my tennis instructor at least 20 years ago. I used to wear 2 pairs of socks but Thorlo socks are so thick and cushiony that they are all I need.

Holabird Sports always has a good price for them. At times Holabirds has them on sale. I love shopping at Holabird Sports. They have all of my sporting needs at a good price.

My husband wears a 13. 5 boot and likes his socks over his calf. I found these last year and gave them a try. Besides fitting him better than any other socks I have purchased for him, they are holding up Unbelievably Well! He wears them everyday – No Holes, they still stay up, and very minor pilling.

I am ordering more and will never ever order any other socks for him. I don’t want to mention competitor names, but I’ve tried a few other high end socks for him that cost more and these are a much better quality.

These are great socks. Exactly what I need when I’m wearing boots. The quality is really there. They fit great, provide comfort and support. They stay up well, and don’t slide down, like some other brands.

I’ve even worn these for 2 or 3 days, without having problems with them sliding down. Highly recommend that you try these. I’m ordering a few more pairs.

Got a few pair back in 2018 and fell in love. I’m a welder who’s hard on clothes and on feet all day. These actually by god stay up all day. (For me!!) but they stay up all day. These are now my go to for everything.

The pair from 2018 are just now getting wore out (I’ve picked up more along the way but tie dyed the original) best sock I’ve encountered so far. Dickies 👎🏻 Duluth trading has some decent but this is my preferred.

I’ve been wearing over the knee Thorlos for decades now. I’ve always been delighted with their quality and their effects on my legs in terms of supporting my skin and veins and promoting healthful lower legs.

I am diabetic. I have some concerns about this last pair that I got from you, I’ve only worn them a couple of months and I’m seeing fraying at the tops of the tongues of my sneakers on my mid to lower tibias in the middles of the socks.

I am quite concerned about this and I would like your opinion. Please respond to me at your earliest convenience I have included photos of the areas that are fraying that concern me a great deal especially on brand new Thorlos.

I had not bought thorlo’s for many years. Even though I had them for many years prior to needing new socks. I thought they out priced themselves. So I started to buy discount socks while continuing wearing the thorlo’s I I had.

As daily and exercise socks. I started to get plantar fascists and noticed my feet hurt more when wearing the discount socks. I hike/walk 6 to 9 miles everyday for exercise. After going through several pairs of the discounted socks and sore feet.

I realized that all but 4 pair of my thorlo’s were 10+ years old. 2 pair were closer to 20 (not used as often) while the other 2 pairs were 7 years old and still like new. And I thought I was saving money.

Seeing as I just bought these puppies, it’s a little early for writing reviews. What I can say is that I bought about a dozen pair of your standard white socks out of a canoe piled full of them at an REI that had them on sail.

I think that was nearly 20 years ago! I still have most of the socks. The only thing that finally wore out was the elastic and that was just this past summer. I have never had a blister or any sour spots of any kind from these socks and I have done some serious hiking here in the Cascade NW and I spent an entire career on my feet on the cement floors of the Boeing Aircraft Co as an Aerospace Machinist.

That was enough to make a believer out of me. This time around I decided on an Over The Calf sock because I wear a 14″ lace-up Packer; custom fit, hand built, from Frank’s Boots of Spokane, WA. These guys and White’s Boots of the same region make all the boots worn by Smoke Jumpers.

We’re talking seriously good footwear ($800 / pair). I found that the shorter sock leaves your upper calf to perspire into the leather where the salt attacks and dries it out. The higher sock will fix that and I recommend anyone wearing a higher boot to wear socks to match.

So yeah, You people got your act together. Keep it that way. Nowadays that seems to be a bigger task then a lot of outfits are up to.

Been having a hard time finding bit socks that fit good on a 5’5″ frame. These are perfect. No issues falling into the boots and the padding is perfect for adding comfort and reducing rubbing.

I wear these socks almost every day with my Muck boots, my Riding boots, my Dress boots, tennis shoes, & my slip on (driving/boat style) shoes. I am bad about running around in my sock feet. When cleaning horse stalls & dog kennels, these socks get a true workout! I liked them so much, I bought all I could find in various stores over the course of a year.

So, I now have about 6 pair that are now 5 to 6 years old. One has a hole the size of a BB. But, still looks like its a few months old. I have three problems with socks. (1) my feet sweat with heavy nylon blends.

(2) I am allergic to wool (3) I HATE !!! socks that won’t stay up on my calf. Or, get eaten by my boot heel. NONE OF THESE are a problem with this sock. My ONE & ONLY PROBLEM. I’d like to purchase a Value Pack of 6 or 10 pair.

I like the most important requirement of a boot sock. THEY STAY UP ALL DAY. They are a couple of inches below my kneecap and are perfect for my 13″ tall boots. They are a little on the thin side but that is perfect for Arizona summers.

Boot socks are traditionally thicker to provide the cushion that leather soled boots do not have. They are a little slick inside the boot so make sure these are used in a boot that is not loose on your foot.

Keep these fitment issues in mind, and youll be happy with these socks. :).

Wear ’em every day with my Ariat workboots in the shop, as well as my dress Ariats. No more slipping and sliding with regular old cotton gym socks. All those old ones are going to the shop as rags. Highly recommended!.

A few years ago I bought a pair of Justin boots and really liked the look of them but my socks kept bunching up around the heel and I had to keep pulling my socks up. so I ended up not wearing these boots very much.

I love these socks. They are the only socks I use when riding in my western boots. I have been riding in them for over 4 years. I started with Thorlo running socks many, many years ago and they were the only socks I used for running.

When I reach for my cowboy boots or any of my boots for that matter Thorlo western boot socks are what I wear. They are tough, high quality, over the calf and last a goodly amount of time after repeated washings.

They are supportive and won’t trickle down your calf after a hard days work. They are American made. After a few years of wear , holes” pop up” in the toes ( I don’t darn socks) and I reluctantly send them packing and buy more.

These are darn good socks at a very reasonable price.

The socks are made of good material and fit tightly and reliable over the calf. At last no slip in my boots. The blended fabric keeps your feet nice and warm, so I have bought five pair of them once again.

I bought two pair about 6 months ago and had to order 3 more, these are the best socks ever. If you are like me and hate to have socks slide down in your boots buy these socks. I was in the military for over 20 years, wow would have loved these socks.

I love love love these socks. They’re extremely comfortable and amazingly durable. I only have time for day hikes, but I can tell a big difference when I wear these socks vs others after my usual 8 mile (or so) hikes – keeping everything else the same.

I even wear them for work and they keep my feet happy during long 12 hour shifts. I’ve bought these socks several times, but amazingly enough, I still have the original pair I bought about 8-10 years ago and worn at least weekly.

They’ve lost a little cushion over time compared to a new pair, but honestly, it’s fairly difficult to tell them from a new pair. Zero holes, thin spots, etc. so they seem like they’ll last forever. I’ve recommended them to many people and I’ll happily recommend them here as well.

Just buy them, they’re amazing.

I started purchasing Thorlo socks 2 decades ago from REI. In the beginning those were ski socks which were outstanding and much better than other brands I’d tried. That led to trying Thorlo Hiking socks (now called Hiking Maximum Cushion Crew) which again were great socks but being on my feet and walking a considerable amount at work each day, I wanted a sock a little lighter that I could wear everyday year around so I tried Thorlo Light Hikers (now called Hiking Moderate Cushion Crew) and they were exactly what I was looking for; a cushioned, comfortable, and very durable work sock that doesn’t have to be replaced every few months.

Yes, Thorlo socks may seem expensive but having purchased Light Hikers several times over the years, I continue wearing them in boots, still have them all, haven’t had to discard a single pair due to wear, and they’ve retained their comfort and cushioning all these years.

Amazing! Needing something a little lighter than Thorlo Light Hikers, to wear in my casual shoes now that I’m retiredI, I purchased several pair the Ultra Light Cushioned Crew and not surprisingly wasn’t disappointed.

I have worn post office issue Thorlo socks since 1980. I retired from being a mailman in 2008. When I retired I spent HALF of my post uniform allowance on socks. My “Old socks” were finally officially old.

I was nervous about buying socks on-line. THESE ARE WONDERFUL!!! They definitely have MORE padding than my used mailman socks. Who knows how they hold up to the REAL DEAL. I am VERY HAPPY with my purchase.

They keep my feet warm and toasty without making them sweat!!! [W hen I carried mail, sweaty feet were the WORST. I went through 3 pair of socks a day. Once my feet get sweaty, the get COLD! So, I changed socks AFTER casing, before I went out on my route.

These are my new favorite socks! I don’t love the rather obnoxious branding, but otherwise they’re perfect. Thick enough to provide a little cushion, but not too thick to fit in my work boots. & they really nailed the fabric composition.

The wool keeps them from getting stinky (I can usually wear them for at least 3 LONG (like 12+ hr), very physical work days before they start to smell). (& don’t judge, I’m usually in remote areas with no access to laundry) I’m planning to buy more to replace my (more expensive) wool blend socks, they’re that good.

Never thought I’d write a review on socks but man. I’ve had my last 4 pair for a year and they’ve never fallen down into my boots and stay up all day. By far and away the most comfortable socks I’ve had in my life.

Only reason I’m here buying 6 new pairs is the fact I lost 3 of my original pairs. I foresee them being a life long investment as long as they keep manufacturing them. They’re great at keeping your feet dry and fantastic for those long 12+ hour days.

They won’t let you down.

Socks are nice. My feet don’t sweat like others. Fit is good. After 1 wash they all become different lengths so which is completely annoying to have one sock to your knee and one that barely comes to the top of the boot.

They are super tight on the calf when new but don’t stay up after a wash. Haven’t had them long enough to decide whether they will last or not.

These are, hands down, the best boot socks ever. They are heavy though, and so will take up room in your boot, but they will keep your feet warm and dry and cushioned. I machine wash and hang dry and they look brand new.

Most of you are seeking warm winter socks. Yes, these are very good warm winter socks! However, I have been very well trained for very hot desert sand. Yes, hot sand. You need thick socks to insulate your feet from 250 degree sand in the desert.

Note, socks need to be very good at being a wick ( these socks are) and need to be high enough to be three plus inches above your boot tops. Your foot needs to fit snug NOT tight! I use these socks riding my motorcycle on very hot days in Florida.

The wind blowing past my boots /sock tops keep my feet very cool.

When it’s cold and going into later season the Ansonville sock is the one I reach for. A couple of reasons why – it’s got good cushion and is super soft, even after miles of hiking and nearly 6 months of use I still feel like I’m slipping into a new sock.

The channel on the side (stripe) is actually a little thinner and I feel that it breathes better and allows sweat to dissipate. The best part is that I’ve never had it fall down like some over the calf socks do.

Never thought that we’d be writing a review about socks, nevertheless here it is! We’ve just discovered Darn Tough socks a few weeks ago because we replaced our 40-year old Eddie Bauer goose down parkas that were leaking down with new North Face Expedition goose down parkas.

We also completed our new winter gear with North Face insulated snow pants, beanies, and -40 insulated boots. So, we needed warm socks too, went online and voilà we discovered Darn Tough. Now, we know a thing or two about socks having gone through literally hundreds of pairs in our 80-year lives and 60 years together so far! For winter, we ordered a dozen pair, 2 pair each of the heavyweight hunter over-the-calf length for our daily walks on the trail in our new snow boots, and 4 pair each of the midweight boot length socks for everything else we do and for all day indoors.

Of course, we couldn’t pass up Da Bear socks, living here in beautiful Alaska as we do. Come spring, we’ll order another dozen pair, 6 pair each of assorted midweight micro-crew length socks for our trail walks and every other kind of daily use.

We received our winter socks and they fit fine, feel great, look good, and are hands down the best socks we’ve ever had in a long lifetime of hundreds of so-so socks! Darn Tough run about 20-30 bucks a pair, so an average 25 bucks times a dozen pair is 300 bucks, and another 300 for a dozen pair each of summer socks.

Of course we could have done with half the amount of socks but we wouldn’t have had any back ups in case we lost some or something else happened, so we doubled up for peace of mind. Now 300 bucks each for a dozen pair of the best socks that you can buy and wear is darn cheap, less than a buck a day for a year and they’ll last far longer with proper care than a year and are replaced free to boot! Ya gotta be nuts not to jump at such a bargain … and we’ve certainly not grown old and wise not being able to see a great deal right under our feet.

So-so smart socks, forsooth, be smarter and treat yourself to a dozen pair of Darn Tough socks, your feet that literally carry you deserve the best, you’ll not regret it, that’s for sure!.

Purchased another pair- yes they are pricey but worth it! I am not lying when I say they are life changing for me. This is because I now only wear darn tough socks-I need a couple more pairs but I say life changing because now that I utilize a handful of pairs I no longer have all the bs matching socks, losing socks, holes in socks, et al.

Now I grab a pair and go. Simplified my life and I’m not looking back! Just need a few more pairs as I have discovered certain pairs I prefer for certain activities (i. e. gym, running, dress etc. ) I don’t know if they still do this but awhile ago I got one pair without cushion (I prefer cushion) and they sent another pair before even reviewing my first pair back, which I literally just dropped in a mailbox to return which was SUPER convenient since I don’t drive).

I am lauding these aspects over the quality because the quality speaks for itself and once you try them you will not go back. The only comparable one is bombas from what I hear but I have not tried those yet so I cannot speak to which is better.

I’ll stick to darn tough though, I’ll pay premium for quality over quantity and the fact made in USA!!!! The only complaint I have is that they don’t have any kind of loyalty program. Like I said I don’t mind paying for quality but would be nice to say buy 5 pairs and get one free or half off or something.

That said I LOVE that they don’t do the whole coupon/sale stuff- they let product speak for itself and it really does!.

This was the sock that turned me onto Darn Tough Socks about a decade ago, and my favorite model sock (okay, they come in second to EVIL X DISSENT 8″ ULTRA MTN MERINO SOCKS for biking). It’s the most tightly woven wool sock and has a firm cush.

There is no sock fluff on my toes or lost wool over time. It maintains its shape. They have a great warranty. HOWEVER I bought a pair of Olive socks (great, just like my old ones) and a pair of Onyx, and the Onyx were of a totally different quality than the Olive ones.

They were about 3 inches longer and not as thick or cushy; a stretched out weave (or even a different weave pattern). I can still see these being a good sock, but it really surprises me that the quality is so different over different colors.

Maybe as Darn Tough rapidly expands over models and colors they are still figuring things out. I recommend sticking to the more classic colors in the Micro Crew – I had a problem with the vibrant color block ones where they were much thinner (though still the same size).

I recommend ordering several at once so you can know what the true magic of the micro crew really feels like. I wish that they kept the chocolate/blue color, as I think it’s really handsome. I also wish they came in size small and xs.

It’s very sad that the women’s colors are so different and that both genders don’t have the options of both sets of colors. I hate the women’s colors so I am really a small but get the medium men’s and they *just* fit.

(Usually a women’s 7. 5).

These are supposed to be Men’s Boot Socks, but truthfully, they look like youth-size. Very tight fit, short tops. Might work with low work shoes The quality/thickness is good! But something is amiss with the size.

My husband refused them, so they will be my winter inside socks, since I don’t like wearing shoes in the house. These are NOT like the Wolverine Boot Socks we’ve bought before.

I have searched high & Low for a good pair of work socks to wear with my Wolverines work boots, as I’m sure many others have. I saw these when I was purchasing a new pair of boots. I thought Hummm !! Since Wolverine builds such Awsome work boots, I wonder if their Socks are just as good ?? So I bought just a couple pair to see.

Well my suspicion was confirmed from the moment I slipped them on. WOW !! They actually fit my huge Doggs “lol. then I stepped out on them and found pure comfort. Now the try them inside my boots. And WOW again.

I never knew a sock could make this much difference. the padding and fit are the key. unbelievable and I’m Sold. these are my forever work socks along with my forever Wolverine work boots. Thanx Wolverine for doing the research to find out what I like.

I have about 6 pairs of these socks,and have been using them during the winter the last 5 years. I’m on my feet 12 hours a day outdoors and couldn’t be happier. Warm,moisture wicking,and comfortable! These socks do not wear out.

I bought theses socks a a gift for my husband who spends a good deal of time outdoors in the winter. He was thrilled with them, he’d been eyeing them on your site for awhile now. We both love Thorlos for quality and fit, and he appreciates the padding that these socks offer.

The warmth factor is also a big plus.

If you’re walking the job site daily you’re always on the prowl for a solid pair of socks. They need to be the right fit, thickness, wick moisture, stay up and last longer than a month before your toe is sticking out the end of them.

These socks have accomplished just that so far. I’ve owned these socks for two months and put them through their paces.

Nice socks, acceptable quality. padding in the right spots without bunching up in the toe. Between thin and too thick. Will order again. Great value.

Initially for the price I had some high expectations for these socks, which I was not sure they’d be met, but like everything else from Oakley. My favorite socks to wear with anything but tennis shoes! Light, comforting your feet, just a delight to have on tour feet.

I have 15-20 pair of these socks. Some I’ve worn for 2 years, some during last winter. I’ll be wearing them again this winter. Those folks who claim they got holes after a short time must have some other problem than the socks.

Maybe their shoes/boots are too tight. Maybe they wore the same socks over and over again and just wore them out. All I know is that every pair of my socks had been worn several times over the cold season with zero holes and zero loss of electricity.

My only issue is that because they are so wonderfully thick, they fill up my sock drawer. I buy these socks because they are warm, wick moisture nicely, are thick and prevent blisters and give me long wear.

I’ll be buying another bag or two two this winter.

I’m not even the outdoors type. However I could never find a pair of socks that kept my feet dry from sweat and warm for winter. My feet always get cold or always hot and sweaty. These changed that. I never complain about hot or cold feet especially wet feet.

These are amazing. Only complaint. They get holes in bottom fairly quickly. But the price point it well worth it. Not bad at all.

I have purchased many good socks through the years and these socks are the Best value of them all. The quality and comfort are unbeatable. I works outdoors in all types of weather and I wear these for all seasons and climate.

They are durable, comfortable and a great price for what they offer. I absolutely love them.
