20 Best Snow Shoes For Kids (2023 Updated)

Great snowshoe for groomed trails/packed snow. I’ve become addicted to snowshoeing and this is my fifth pair of snowshoes I’ve purchased. I have different snowshoes for varied conditions. These now complete my collection for the various conditions here in MN.

I took these out during on our our snow storms b/c I had just purchased and wanted to try them out. They did alright, but definitely work best in more snow packed conditions or groomed trails. Very light weight and easy to get in/out of.

I would highly recommend these for snowshoeing in packed snow/groomed trails/light snow.

Amazing for a lot of different situations, including what most hikers will encounter. I have some classical metal frame snowshoes and am enjoying these more. I like how they don’t do a flip-flop motion.

The float isn’t extreme and you can’t do serious ascents in them since they do not have the long crampon-style pieces in the bottom. If you go to their official website there is a snowshoe quiz to help you decide if these, the foam running ones, or a typical metal pair are best for you and your use.

Makes a great gift!.

A year ago I bought a pair of MSR Shift for my petite wife — under 100 lbs (and a pair of MSR Evo 22 for myself — 150 lbs). Snowshoeing is a very occasional activity winter activity for both of us — well below XC skiing, running, cycling — so I didn’t want to pay a lot, but I always like to buy quality.

Hence MSR Shift & MSR Evo 22 (versus MSR Revo, MSR Lightning, or cheapo brands). Prior to buying, we read all of the numerous professional and consumer reviews: MSR snowshoes in general, and Shift and Evo 22 in particular, are highly recommended.

We really like MSR’s unique snowshoe deck design: incredible traction, light, rugged, great looking. The binding is not the most convenient, but it works well. For our type of snowshoe use (semi packed trails and ice), these are perfect.

Manoeuvrability and traction are our priorities. They are very easy to run with. The small deck size isn’t ideal for floatation in deep powder, but we’re willing to endure that during the few brief times we might need it.

To the point: the bindings are quite difficult for young kids to work. The problem is that the metal prong that protrudes through a hole in the rubber strap (works like a belt) is either too short or stands at too low an angle to the strap (take your pick).

The result is that when the strap is pulled tight, it must be forced down onto the prong and that it not easy for a young child to do. In fact, it’s not that easy for an assisting adult. The child is more likely to accept a somewhat looser fit to get the job done.

Today, my 12-year old granddaughter, a very independent and capable child who insists on putting her snowshoes on herself, walked out of them twice within 45 minutes, once because a front strap became loose and once because the unnecessarily long heel strap worked loosed from the plastic piece that holds its excess in place, and that was soon followed by failure of the prong-strap attachment.

Increasing the length of the prong by a few millimeters would likely solve this problem, as would increasing the angle it makes with the straps.

I’ve introduced scores of kids aged 5-9 to SSing using several styles. With the MSRs, kids are, literally, running in minutes, and stay happy over distance. All MSRs are very light and perform very well.

Grip like crazy. No rooster-tail. The Shift (youth# are WAY better than A-brand shoes for kids bought elsewhere Complaint with all the positlok and duofit strap style MSRs. Great for strong hands and expedition gloves.

Kids tend to need adult help. Even then, the straps often flap and come undone. Take time to shorten the straps at the buckle side. I have also added extra plastic strap keepers #sold sep). Also, not sure youth shoes were even necessary.

Everyone age 7 and up fights over my new MSR women’s Revos with the hyperlink ratchet binding. Perhaps I should have just bought my daughter adult MSRs that she can use forever.

I purchased these snowshoes for my son 3 years ago. I am so thankful I bought these for my son. It has allowed me to bond with my son in the winter outdoors. Since the age of 5 now 9, he has gone on five 4 day winter backpacking/snowshoeing trips covering over 11+ miles in the Western Sierra’s with these snowshoes.

They have amazing traction, easy to use, light weight and I believe the best on the market for kids. The max weight for the best flotation for these snowshoes out rank all other companies which make them last longer, getting more use as your kid grows older.

No need to look around for a pair of kid’s snowshoes, get MSR Shift Youth Snowshoes. You will never regret it!.

The sizing information on the f&f website was incorrect. It says these (kit 25) supports up to 250 pounds. The tag attached to the snowshoes said 200 pounds. I’m 200 pounds without winter clothing so I will be exceeding the guidelines.

So far I’ve only had hard pack snow so the work ok, but the story may be different in soft snow. But the larger size shows as out of stock so I will keep what I have. There are no directions that come with these.

I fiddled around for half an hour getting the poles put together, and likewise trying to get the snowshoes on properly. I finally emailed the company, and they gave me some general advice. The ratchet straps are still a mystery.

I finally got them to lock and hold, but then unlocked them to let another person try, and it took another 20 minutes to get them to lock properly again. If you get them locked, I highly recommend leaving them and never unlock them again.

If somebody else wants to snowshoe tell them to get their own pair. With all of that said, they do seem to be pretty well built but I’ve yet to have deep soft snow to try them in.

We are absolute beginners and have now used our snowshoes twice. We chose these because they were a “middle price range” for this store. We are very pleased with the value, and that the set came with poles and a carrying bag.

Sizing seems accurate. They were fairly easy to operate. We can’t comment yet on their durability (winter ended too soon!).

36 inch snow shoes are large and in charge in the deep snow. They look kind of silly until you get a 2 foot storm and then you realize why they’re so long, nice floatation. Used every day for a week.

Although the snow isn’t here yet to try them, you can see and feel the quality of these Atlas snowshoes. They have beautiful colours, quality materials, and nice details. They have a large weight range, so they will last my child for many years.

Bought this for my son’s birthday. With all the snow we got this year he loved using them around the neighbourhood. Glad to have purchased this for him.

Have not yet had a chance to use as it is now just early fall. But am happy with the purchase as they look well made and sturdy. Can’t wait for the snow to come now.

I wanted to love these after reading so many excellent reviews but I’m finding the straps to be surprisingly annoying. The back strap was constantly becoming undone until I added an extra strap keeper going in the opposite direction of the first to keep the long strap in place.

With little kids, asking them to stand around for ages while you fiddle in the cold is a recipe for souring the entire experience. We also have a pair of Yukon Charlie’s with fabric straps that are a cinch to both tighten and loosen and I much prefer those.

I noticed the cheap Outbound ones at Canadian Tire have the same system and I’d go with those if purchasing again. On the plus side, my son was able to run and jump and climb in these Tykers with ease when they were finally on.

This is a Christmas gift for my Grandson. MSR Tyker kid’s snowshoes come highly recommended. They are very hard to find. VPO had them in stock and shipped them promptly. They look great. All we need now is Christmas and some powder snow to give them a serious test run.

MSR Tykers are highly recommended snowshoes for young kids. They are hard to find in Canada. They will be a Christmas gift for my grandson. Sail had them in stock. Quick delivery. Well packaged. Now all we need is Christmas to arrive and some powder snow for a good test run.

Out son is about 3 3/4 years old. not small but not big. These are doing great for him. He can hike in them and uses them in the back yard sometimes. It took a couple days and he started to pick up speed, but he isn’t exactly fast yet.

But overall, these are a fun and worthy investment for our family. I think my son can wear them for quite awhile. like at least 4 more years. We’ll see.

My 4 year old loves these and she took off instantly with them. Size is perfect for little feet and weight is good too. The only thing to mention is the straps get pretty hard to use on very cold days, especially since they are a lot smaller than on the adult versions.

Okay so my almost three-year old grandson rocked these! He did so well in them. Stomped around in 25 inches of snow up here in VT! Money well spent!

These gloves are well-made and not too bulky. My daughter really likes them and actually wears them at recess. We thought that these would keep her hands toasty and warm for the short time that she is outside, but she said her fingers still get cold.

Keep in mind that she is spending most of her time on the swings that have metal chains, but still all kids’ gloves should be able to stand up to cold playground equipment.

Received order quickly. Bought snowshoes for grandson for Christmas present. Tried then on his snowboots. Seem like they will work well. Straps might be a little difficult to adjust in the cold. Would still recommend.

Got the boots for my 4 year old daughter. She didn’t have a hard time walking in them. I love the added strap and toggle to keep the snow out. I especially loved the Velcro strap even more since I got it 2 sizes bigger so she has room for growth and thicker socks.

She’ll more thank likely use it just once until the next winter so I still wanted it to fit in the future. Throughout the 3 hours of use I constantly asked if her if her feet were warm and dry and she said yes.

To my surprise, when I finally took them off, her socks were nice and dry and toasty! Money well spent!.

These boots are rated for below 0 temperatures. I bought two pair for my nieces. Having grown up in the MN cold, I generally buy a little big and always use thick warm winter socks as well to change often to help with warmth and keeping their little feet dry.

We’ve been sledding every day for the past 3 days! Both girls love their new boots. Temperatures have been 20-30 degrees F.

I bought two pair of these boots for my grandsons aged 4 and 3 for Christmas gifts. They pair I bought for the youngest were too smal so I re-ordered another pair in a larger size. I was really very pleased with these boots and would recommend them.

For the price I think they are a great value.

Have only tried it out on grass since we dont have snow here yet. , cant speak to durability yet. It was easy and light, good for a 5yr old who enjoyed it for the short while it was tried on. Looking forward to getting some real snow.

My 6 year old son used these snowshoes and had no complaints. It fits his winter boots and didn’t have to get adjusted throughout our hike in the snow.

Can’t really tell you how they function as these are a gift for my two granddaughters new winter. They appear to be very good quality and not just ‘kiddie toy stomper’ type shoes, so I’m hoping they will serve my grandgirls well as they grow – they are 2 and 4 right now.

Never to young to get them enjoying winter activities!.

Hands down the best choice for kid’s winter boots, we tried several others before finding these. Comfortable, great traction, lightweight (especially compared to Sorel), great look, and my 3-yr old can easily put them on and take them off by himself.

The only thing I would say is the wheat color has an almost suede-like material on the upper part of the boot. This can be very difficult to clean if it gets dirty. We bought the black version for any borderline cold weather where the ground might be wet or muddy and save the wheat version for dry or snowy conditions.

Living in the cold Northeast, I had to make sure my kids snow boots were rugged enough for them. I used to buy Kamik or Bogs for my kids but one winter I couldn’t find any for my eldest son & decided to try these Snow Bank boots.

Since then, I haven’t bought any other snow boots for my kids. These boots are very well made & easy to put on, even for a 2 year old. I personally like how they look. It’s a blend between a duck boot & snow boots.

We have 4 pairs now. all the same exact color. You like what you like & these boots are fantastic.

We live in Maine, these boots are perfect! We have purchased them each year for our kids since they were 2. Lightweight, warm, not bulky, and great traction. Added bonus, each pair has worn nicely and has been handed down at least twice, some even three times! Worth every penny!.

Although I’m over the weight that these are designed for, I’m finding them very useful for relatively firm snow conditions. Adult snowshoes are for the most part heavy clunkers, but the tubing on these is thinner and the binding is also much lighter.

I had to modify the binding so my big snow boots would fit in, and also had to cut out the webbing a bit more around the toe, but it was worth it The claw is a bit cheaply made and will probably rust, and the binding is fairly flimsy too, but for the price point, I don’t expect them to be my forever snowshoes.

I don’t like that the foot pivots on a strap rather than a rod, because the heel of the snowshoe lifts up as I walk and flicks a bit of snow at my behind with every step. At another store, I saw an equally light snowshoe with a pivot rod, but at almost 3X the price I went with these and so far haven’t regretted it.

I bought these for my 5 year old son and they were fantastic. Lightweight, easy to put on and fit him perfectly. I was a little concern if his foot would fit, but upon trying them on they fit with ease.

Very impressed with the quality and the easy to adjust straps make it easy to put on and take off. Perfect for beginners or first timers. These will fit my son for a few years to come. Great value and an affordable price, highly recommend these.

My 10 year old saved up and bought these. He was very excited to get them but we found the bindings barely fit his boots and can be very difficult to do up. The specifications chart claims these have a max weight of 132 lbs but the tags when we got them actually recommend 40 to 90 lbs.

My son is well within the weight limits but I can’t see them fitting on larger boots next year. In the end, he’s been running around our farm in them all afternoon and loves them but the price is a little much now that we know he’ll likely size out of them soon.

Bought these as a gift for my daughter. Have not given them yet. Initial review after comparing with cheaper grade ones, my wife’s MSR Evos and my own MSR Lightning: – very sturdy and light, I think these are stiffer compared to the Evo when factoring in the lighter weight – cute design, – easy boot attachment – pivot point seems well placed.

Balance proportions are similar to our own snowshoes – no step for mountains, although I think for a kid snowshoe that’s a plus Looking forward to gift then and snowshoe in family!.

I just gave these to a six year old. I was not sure what to expect, and thought that she might find them frustrating and not want to use them. The opposite happened. She was plowing through the snow in them immediately, with no problem whatsoever.

I rarely write reviews, but I do want to recommend this product because it can be a challenge to find outdoor items that work well for young children. The only thing that we need to figure out is how to get her to move in them so that snow does not catch at the back end and fling upward onto the back of her jacket.

Great shoeshoes My daughter loves them

Bought these for my 4 year old and they’re excellent. They feel like a small version of “real” adult snowshoes. Much more robust (with front and back metal cleats) than the plastic Tubbs snowshoes – these will last for years.

The only con is that for little kids the back straps are a bit long, but we just tuck them under the snow pants to keep them out of the way. This is almost not fair to list as a con since our child is still a few lbs under the recommended weight.

I bought a pair of these snowshoes for a friend’s 10-year-old granddaughter, and she loves them. We only got to try them out 2 or 3 times this past winter, but they worked great on packed trails and deeper stuff off the trails.

These are real snowshoes, not cheap stuff like so much kids’ gear is. They’re built the same way as the adult models, the bindings are more than secure enough for the snowshoes’ intended use, the rear strap’s friction buckle is easy to adjust and holds securely, and the crampons provide excellent traction.

The fixed toe cords keep the shoes from dragging and tripping the wearer. They’re not the choice for mountaineering or the backcountry, obviously, but for trails and rolling terrain they work great.

I bought these a couple months early in preparation for a trip to the snow. I knew my son was a size 5, so I didn’t bother to try them on. Absolutely could NOT get his foot into the boot with the liners in.

Pulled them out, and tried to put them on like socks before putting them in the boot. The liners probably equated a size 3. There was no way my son’s foot was getting in them. We ended up doing multiple layers of socks, and that seem to work.

The outer shell of the boots is super sturdy. Columbia just needs to get their sizing right. I wish I would’ve tried them on sooner, because now I am out of my return window.

I bought these for me son and daughter last year and then again this year. These are these type of boots they prefer even when other more expensive boots were looked at too. I like how the insert is removable (helps with drying out…dry feet are warm feet!) and you can cinch the top so snow doesn’t get in as boots are put on after snow pants and not many kids take the time to put their snow pants over the tops of their boots.

They are comfortable and keep their feet warm while playing in the snow. For a big boot they are not too heavy either so easy to walk in. Mind you I do have a second pair of boots for my son who wants to run around (sports) at recess and they are awkward if you are trying to play road hockey.

childs shoe size is 6 on a variety of other boots and shoes but had to buy a size 10 in this boot as the liner is so small, and we want to get a full season and maybe one next year out of this boot. Outer seems to be well made and sturdy and the grip is awesome.

But, sizing is not true and very misleading. Shes not been outside in them yet and we have 2 feet of snow and its. -15 outside so still need to see how they are for warmth. Liner seems a little on the thin side.

We also skidoo and our 3 year old grandchild comes with us. We put Alpaca socks on the childs feet so they are warm, so hopefully these boots will stand up to the -32 winters we sometimes experience here in Northern Ontario.

I looked for such a long time for quality snow/hiking boots that were truly waterproof, and everything I could find was SO expensive until I discovered these awesome boots from Decathlon. I haven’t gotten to test them on a true hike, but I’ve been wearing them out and about during these snowstorms we’ve experienced in NJ, and I can say that they are waterproof, warm, and comfortable.

Digging out the car in several feet of snow was a much easier experience with these toasty boots. They come up high enough to keep the feet dry without making it hard to walk. I LOVE that they don’t have laces, which kind of gross me out to have to tie all the time.

These are so easy to pull on and off and to tighten/ unstrap. I found these to be true to size based on the websites sizing chart. I also have to say I love how they look. They’re minimal and very stylish, I like the contrast of the black exterior and lighter gray interior.

My priority was warmth/waterproofing, but it is such an amazing bonus that I love how these boots look as well. The first time I wore them out, someone commented they were “adorable”! Finally, I cannot believe how affordable these boots are, given all the amazing qualities I listed above.

I could have easily paid twice as much for ugly boots that would not be truly waterproof. I am so happy that I learned about Decathlon. I can’t wait to really test them with some sledding or winter hiking!.

I don’t usually comment, but this pair of shoes are really nice! At the very beginning they rub a bit because they might have been pressed in storage. But soon they feel real good. You can adjust the sticker so that you feel just comfortable, and you can put your hose inside the shoes.

And they breathe well too. No need to wear wool socks anymore. If you just wear a pair of cotton sports socks, you would feel comfortable all day. I would expect something so practical to be much more expensive to be honest.

My kid has 31 and I bought 33, they were too small. I returned them back. I would like to buy new ones but I am afraid if I buy 34 he won’t be able to use them next year and 35 I think is too big for him at the moment.

Shops are closed due to Covid and cannot check the size. Pity.

The length on these was perfect for my child, but the binding barely fit around his big kid size 3. 5 boot. To bad, because overall these are great, easy for a child to put on (if they have very small feet) and great traction.

These snowshoes worked great for my four-year-old daughter until she accidentally lost one of the heel straps. TSL sent us a replacement strap within a few days so we didn’t even have to compromise any snow time!.

No issues putting them on or seeing our 5 year-old grandson walk in the snow with them. They did flip snow upwards onto his back and into his hoodie , so we had him him pull up his hoodie.
