20 Best Snow Pants For Skiing (2023 Updated)

Love the softness–very soft interior and exterior, great for walking the dog in cold weather, doesn’t make a noise because of the soft material. The reason I only gave it a “3” is (1) it was 10 degrees out, not much wind, and while they “say” they are rated for Minus -25 to -35 degrees, I have to say my legs were cold, and I was only outside in my driveway for 15 minutes.

Size-wise, I normally wear size 14 and size L usually fits, but needed to order the XL in these, and the thighs are a little snug, not uncomfortable, but they are not loose enough for tights underneath.

I would order a size up if that’s your need. While the pants fit okay and the leg length was great (I’m 5’8″), the waist does have a gap in the back side. I’m going to slide in a piece of elastic so it doesn’t gap open, in case I bend over since my winter jacket is waist length.

There aren’t belt loops which I guess I didn’t expect anyway. They are definitely more of a lined “pant,” and I’d recommend for easy wear like walking or shoveling real light snow–NOT in temps under 10 for long and not for downhill skiing as they are not warm enough for the wind.

I do really like how soft they are and wore them inside for an hour without getting “hot” and our house is at 72 degrees. I also like the side pockets and zipper you could put a phone in while walking–not for sports though.

The ankles have a nice light ankle liner with elastic for boots which I appreciate for snow. I think I’ll love them, and they’re perfect for walking the dog or spending a short time outside for a cold football game.

They look like pants and not “bulky snowpants” too! That’s why I’m willing to add elastic and not return them.

Overall the pants are of good quality with ample pockets etc. Couldn’t give full stars though because I am disappointed that the belt adjustment is limited due to the adjustment clip doesn’t fit inside belt “loop” area and I have to use a safety pin to ensure a secure fit.

Adding a belt adjustment to the right side would help this? Also the height between top of inseam and waistline could be slightly more roomy to avoid the cool draft when bending over.

Excellent quality. Impressed. I’m 6’ 170. These medium /regular fit perfect. I’m glad I read reviews and went 1 size up. As Spyder sizing is kinda 1970’s slim. Surprised by how much I like the suspenders! I figured I’d just toss them but uh-uh they are way too much fun.

To recap: as I normally wear size small waist, 31”inseam(though my inseam is 32”, I actually need small/ long but harder to find) these slinky Spyder Sentinels in size medium/ reg. with 32” inseam fit perfect.

For reference my waist fluctuates from 29” summer to 31” after Christmas turkey & baking. Every other ski brands size small will fit me but there is no way I’d fit Spyder size small.

First the Peter Glenn order fulfillment and return process was easy and efficient. However, I did need to return these as the sizing chart for Spyder pants was inaccurate. The smalls had a waist range of 31″-33″.

I assumed given the adjustability of the pants the range would be comfortably in my pant size range. I am 5’11” and 160, and wear HH ski pants in small (waist 33″ / inseam 31″) they fit perfectly. The Spyder pants looked well constructed and the material and color were very nice.

So I am disappointed that the size didn’t work, especially since PG did not have a medium to size up!.

Good product. Quality materials Smart pockets, good waist adjustments, and I like the removable suspenders (although I don’t know that I’ll ever ski without them on). Seems like it will be durable for many days of heavy use on the slopes or a day trip into the back country.

I only have one ski day in these pants so far when it was mid 20’s and cloudy – they kept me warm with just a light pair of long underwear. Note on sizing and cut: I am 6′ 1″, 185 pounds. I ordered the LARGE based on the sizing guide.

But returned it because the thighs were way too tight. I replaced them with XL and now the thighs are okay (although still slightly tight) but my waist is uncomfortably loose, even with the adjustments set to as small as I can make it.

I’m confused why Spyder would cut the thighs so tight when skiers tend to have larger legs?.

Bought these for my grand daughter for Christmas. Should have bought a smaller size. I will return them for a size or two smaller in hopes I will receive them before the winter is over. Great buy, well made, love them, just too big.

Being able to find petite length snow pants was a breeze while shopping online. Love the fit and quality of pants. Will be using on our trip up north while enjoying outdoor sports such as snowshoeing.

No issues with delivery. Arrived in a timely manner.

The pants are really nice. Lots of gadgets all designed to make them useful on the slopes. Kept me warm all day in 20 degree temps. Even at night when the temp dropped. Only wore under armour tights underneath.

Excellent buy. Slim fit. Reasonable warmth and water resistant (tested in cold wet snow conditions in Tahoe, Dec 2021) Would buy again.

My son hasn’t worn them yet so cannot comment on warmth/waterproofness but the fit was excellent. He is 9, slim and average to slightly tall for his age. The 10 fits perfect and has a bit of extra leg length.

Quality seems great and he liked the style. Will be used for skiing rather than outdoor play or we would have wanted something with more reinforcement on the knees.

This is my second winter trying the Helly Hansen brand, and so far, so good. I purchased this pant last year for my eldest (a tall11yr old, she fit in the size 14). It lasted the whole winter without any holes.

So now, I purchased this size 12 for my slim 9 yr old, because I want the pants to last two seasons. No complaints of the cold and it’s a nice fit.

My daughter is 8. 5 and 50%tile for height and weight. I originally purchased the size 8 and they were way too short. Exchanged for a size ten and they fit perfect with room to grow. Should be able to get two ski seasons out of them.

They are a little loose in the waist but they are held up with the suspenders. Great quality and looks sharp!.

Really wanted these pants to work. The biggest reason I returned was the length: 2-3 inches longer than I wanted (I?m 5?6) – I didnt want the baggy, dragging/wear and tear with a longer pant. Second reason was slim fit in the hips, even for a large size.

I was overall looking for a slightly trimmer cut pant than my current free ride pants (and this pant was reviewed as being a trimmer fit) but found this one was just a bit to tight in the hips?fine through the rest of the leg.

Last, and more minor, the vent zips have only one zipper – you can only vent from the top down, rather than being able to position the venting area with two zippers. Otherwise, material was soft, not noisy, seemed durable, waist adjustments and pockets nicely placed.

I would have liked these to work but just not the best fit for me.

I tried out many brands before selecting this pair though I don’t know why they’re priced at twice what other great ones cost. For an insulated pant, they’re quite trim looking, as were another Flylow model that I tried.

They are super warm and comfy and fit better than anything else. They run big though. I got the XS but am really usually a S these days. They’re big on my daughter who’s definitely an XS. I like the highish waist.

Pockets and closures are all good. I’m pretty short and they’re not too long in ski boots.

These pants have the perfect amount of insulation. I tend to “run cold” in my butt and my legs, and a shell-type pant doesn’t really keep me warm enough. The vents are nice on the backcountry days when I’m working up a sweat as well.

It is a button fly closure which I like. Many pants have a snap closure which tends to unsnap when bending down, or crushing a turn. The pants are a little low-waisted. The front snap is below the belly button, and have a slim-fit which is why I gave it a 4 star instead of 5.

I-usually wear a women’s 12, and the large was way too snug. Ended up with an XL which fits perfect (with a base layer underneath. ). I would say if you were in between sizes, size up.

Got these since I wanted relaxed fit to allow a knee brace while skiing. Fit the bill perfectly – enough room for the brace without looking/feeling bulky. Fabric protected well from the wind while skiing – for temps above -6C even with the wind I did not need any base layer – were warm enough.

With a thin base layer even -14C were no problem. Lower than that with a moderate wind felt a little bit the chill, not cold though. Comfortable design, straps helped too. Did not sweat while on the slopes – great breath-ability.

One thing I missed was the zipper/buckle on the inner cuff – rubber band is stretchy but I have to roll it up, then down when adjusting the boot buckles. Great pants overall, very pleased!.

Nice pants, exactly as advertised. I’m about a 34-35 waist and the Large fit perfect, with a bit extra room as per the Relaxed sizing – enough to comfortably get a layer or two tucked in under the suspenders, but not extra baggy.

Thigh pocket is super handy for my iphone. Inseam is just right, about a 32 – best with boots, as opposed to a lower outdoor shoe. Insulating seems good, but I haven’t had a chance to use them in anything too extreme.

Not inexpensive, but anything I buy from Salomon is made so right that I don’t hesitate to pay up.

I was so stoked when I received my new “Chill Out” Salomon bib pants just 2 days before my first trip up to the hill this season. They fit well and the zip off bib bit is great for après! I even got a “nice a&&!” from one of the gals that was up there with me.

;o) The side vents could be bigger, but I’m sure that at warp speed they’ll be more than adequate. They have just the right amount of insulation that all I’ll ever need is a modest base layer for the cold days and in the spring, well.

with 20k/20k waterproof/breathability im sure I’ll be sporting these puppies at least 5 years. Thank you Altitude!!!.

the child I bought these for is in the husky size range. He will be 5 and I ordered a 7/8. they are alittle tight in the waist and long in length, but we didn’t have another option for size. the pants will be good to keep him warm and dry.

there is elastic at the bottom inside so that should give additional coverage from the elements.

Cheap poor quality. Wore one time and the whole pant legged ripped. rips like paper

Very thin pants. I would order a size bigger if wearing other pants underneath.

Athletic build with larger thighs. And the fit is great, aside from the length. Just giving folks a heads up that plan staying on the front side. Wore these for two seasons resort skiing. These are great shells, but a little too breathable and froze my butt off on the chair, it’s a softshell material and feel.

Tried several layering options – capilene, puffer pants, wool ($$$) was still uncomfortably cold on days 20 degrees or below, with a little wind, brrrr. That said these are great for touring and/or spring skiing on the front side, great finish and venting as other reviewers note, pockets and design is well thought out.

Fit is pretty long (32. 5″ inseam) great if your over 6ft tall. Writing this because it’s marketed as a inbound pant and bc pant. Plan on using skins or touring – great pant. Plan on doing laps on a chair – not so great, unless it’s late spring.

I’ve done a season of ski touring in these pants. The stretch fabric is good, the BDry membrane seems to work OK. Generally speaking they’re fine. But they’re let down by a poor cut (snug around the thighs and huge around the waist), the pockets are all flat (there are no folds in the pocket fabric) which means the outer piece of fabric is stretched tight over whatever is in your pockets which is sure sign you’re going wear holes in them.

The snow gaiter has an inexplicable hole at the top which lets in snow in deep powder or if you’re boot packing. The belt isn’t stitched in place which means that it can slide around and the buckle can disappear into the waistband of the pants.

The downsides are all fairly minor and the pants do their job but I’d probably look for something better next time.

Pants are phenomenal. A little stretchy, roomy enough, look cool, haven’t damaged them on patrol yet. I get lots of compliments on them. The pockets are great, big, conveniently placed. The midsection is not very form-fitting if you’re slim, which for me is great for layering under and staying moveable.

The side zipper is JUST low enough to use as a sort of drop seat, but of course a true drop seat would be rad. I did add some elastic and buckles to the shoulder straps so that I’m not undoing the velcro too often, since velcro wears out over time.

And it’s nice to have a bit of give to the straps when I sit. I’m 5’0″ and 110lbs with a short torso and the XS fits great.

I got the blue medium Lofoten pants and they’re good. I used to have these padded ski pants where I only used long johns underneath. With the Lofoten shell pants I need an extra insulation, but that’s fine and that also allows me to not overheat during the mild spring days as I can now remove that insulation layer.

My problem is with the two waist buttons that are supposed to keep the pants up, they’re simply not strong enough. To keep the pants up I need tighten the waist using the two velcro straps on the sides.

But when I then bend over to buckle my ski boot, pick up a dropped ski pole, or my knees reach my chest during a bumpy backcountry ride, the buttons come undone! And if I’m not quick to re-button them, then the zipper starts opening and my pants starts to drop! I’m a skinny (22 BMI) guy and don’t wear more than a smart-wool layer at the waist.

These pants really should have these “lock-buttons” as you find in other ski pants, hiking pants, or heck tuxedo pants. I’ve just purchased the zip-on bib with suspenders so I can loosen the velcro straps and rely on the suspenders to keep my pants up, but that really shouldn’t be necessary I think.

I have alpine skied in these pants four times so far. Conditions have varied from 25F with wet snow melting on me all the way up the chairlift to cold & dry conditions around 10F with strong winds. I would rate the insulation in the pants as moderate.

They have kept me dry and I have been able to adjust my underlayers from light to heavy to accommodate the cold. I ski mostly moguls and the reinforced material at the ankles shows no signs of wear yet.

The venting is good but I am disappointed that the vents do NOT have mesh when you open the zippers. That could be a problem in the spring if I fall in the slushy snow. Or you can only open them during the chair lift ride.

I am 6′ tall and weigh 182 pounds with large Latvian thighs. It has always been a challenge to find brands that fit comfortably in the thighs whether it be outerwear or normal pants. The large size fits me well with the waist adjustments in the middle.

I have used the Felketing Flex 1 for winter hiking and Nordic skiing and showshoeing down to 5 degrees F but I think that I would use these pants if it was any colder.

Bought Lyngen Gore-Tex Pro-Pants (M), but this is too stiff. I want a pant that I can use both for hiking in the mountains in the spring/autumn, but primarily using it for skiing in wintertime. Mainly I am using it for Cross-country skiing, Mountain-skiing and Down-hill skiing.

Please advise for type of Pants to buy. Maybe Lyngen Gore-Tex Pants are good choice? I have all my Outdoor clothes from Norrøna, and I am super happy with the performance and quality. These are GREAT. Look good, feel good and the fit is perfect. Good elastic at the bottom should keep the snow off your boot tops. Waist adjustment make for perfect fit and elastic in suspenders make them comfortable.

If I needed more, I’d buy more! Great buy!!.

Good value. Too long in leg really. Why do clothing manufacturers assume that if you are large you are 6ft tall and have arms the length of a gorilla. Wore them for ski holiday and they split at the seams in the crutch.

Not a great look on the slopes.

It was tight at first but the fabric stretches around the waist the longer you wear it. Love the suspenders.

Pants came in the mail today with stains on it! Super disappointed in the quality coming from Backcountry. And it was the last one in the size. I did try it on just to see if I should buy the same size from another retailer.

The fit is WEIRD, as noted by other reviewers. I got the XS short. The inseam is great for my little legs. But the hips were too tight and the waist was way too big, so I don’t think I would try to get a non-stained pair.

For reference, I have a 28″ inseam. My waist is 25″ and my hips are 33″, I usually wear a size 00 or 0. The pants were so tight on my hips, it did not feel comfortable, and the waist was so big, it gaped several inches.

Some other reviewer asked if these were seconds – I am asking the same thing! Given the weird cut and the stains that it came with. I am starting to think Backcountry does sell seconds and isn’t being transparent about it.

I recently bought boots from Backcountry – the same pair in two different sizes. The boots were different colors between the sizes and within the same size, the two shoes felt vastly different.

I run a snow plow business so having snow pants that fit well, are waterproof and warm are vital. I have long struggled with pants that are too long. The hems get torn up and water seeps in. I was stoked to find a pair of high quality snow pants in a shorter length.

So far these pants have lived up to my expectations. They are also very comfortable! I agree with comments about the waist. Velcro straps on the side would help, but I find that a belt also works. I thought I would love the clip at the ankle to keep the inner lining together when tucked into my boots, but I don’t.

It gets caught on my socks and is difficult to securely clip. Other than those two minor things, these pants are awesome!.

I ordered these for my daughter for Christmas. Unfortunately, the size on the tag (M) was different than the size in the inside of the garment (XS) and they obviously didn’t fit. Very disappointing on Christmas morning.

Even worse, the size M is now completely sold out, so we couldn’t even exchange them, and ski pants are a scarce commodity now that it’s prime ski season. Not sure if the tag mismatch is the fault of Dick’s or The North Face, but someone clearly needs better quality control.

I wish I could give these pants an honest review, but we didn’t get that far.

This is the second pair of Descente ski pants that I have purchased and there is no better on the market in my opinion. I have an orange Descente jacket and matching ski pants and decided to get these lime-yellow (Wakakusa) pants to make an even brighter second outfit.

They are warm, flexible and well constructed but not bulky–a very trim look. Get a lot of compliments on the Descente outfits for sure. I would highly recommend Descente ski wear!.

Tried both the Canguu and the Roscoe style of Desecente ski pants. While the Roscoe are $150 less, I still preferred the quality upgrades in the Canguu. In a Large, the canguu felt true to size while the Roscoe felt tighter.

With the suspenders (although removable) at their max they felt too snug/too short (I am 6′). Overall quality is in line with the Descente brand, but I just felt more comfortable in the upgraded version.

I bought these ski pants for my husband. He absolutely loves the fit and feel. If these pants prove to be as good quality as his older Descente pants, he can expect at least a decade of wear. Other reviewers noted that the pants run small and that ordering a size larger than you’d normally order was a good idea.

My husband wisely heeded that advice and got a perfect fit.

The GoreTex Teton ski pants is just a shell. You need wear a thick base layer or a middle layer to keep you warm on the ski hills. Peak Performance also sell a two layer variety of this pants. You can find it on thelasthunt site.

Please note the material used for the two layer pants are labeled wrong on the website. It is actually GoreTex instead of Hype Core+. As to the fit, the shell pants is a true relax fit regardless which standard is used.

I am 6 feet and the medium one is perfect for me, and the large one is still wearable with a little bit big waist. I did ordered two sizes as suggested by the site. You can simply choose one that fit well and return another.

A return label has already been included in the package.

Usually Peak Performance clothing is a slim-fit overall by north American standards (even when described as a relaxed fit), but these pants truly are a “relaxed fit”. They are standard amazing Peak Performance quality, but definitely very loose fit.

Something to consider if you’re thinking of getting these.

Love these pants. They keep my legs dry when snowboarding. I understand these are snow pants, but they are a tiny bit (maybe 1. 5 inches) too long. They are incredibly roomy and allow you to layer up under these 100% waterproof pants.

Pretty bra. True emerald green which I’ve been looking for for a long time. Great value too.
