20 Best Snow Boots For Snowshoeing (2023 Updated)

I bought my first pair (the black ones) before Christmas last year. We live in central Alabama but I took them with us to Gatlinburg, Tennessee on Christmas Day. I’m so glad I did because it was a winter wonderland up there & I wore these EVERY WHERE! My feet stayed dry & warm & at the end of the day, my feet wasn’t sore at all.

The sidewalks in Gatlinburg were completely iced over and although I slid a little bit, it wasn’t near as bad as others were sliding. Everyone kept asking me where I got them from and told me how much they loved them.

And I loved them so much that as soon as we got back home, I ordered a 2nd pair in the color brown. Another great thing is, I wore these a lot last winter and they still look brand new. Definitely well made.

I bought these boots based on the reviews. I had to get a wide width because Columbia makes thin width boots. I live in Maine. These boots keep my feet warm and dry in slush and snow. I’ve walked in 2 feet of snow and was fine except for it coming into my calf because I wore leggings.

These boots have nothing on Sorel Tivoli II and Sorel Tofinos. Both of those models make me feet cold. I will say that you must wear a good pair of Darn Tough socks or a good pair for winter. I wore them with thin summer socks and I felt the cold come through.

I hiked 3 miles in snow and they stood up with no leaks although these aren’t hiking boots.

Prepping for a trip to Iceland in the next month. Ive tried several boots, meaning a lot!! I kept navigating towards Columbia from online searches and when I found the wide option I figured lets give it a try.

Very comfortable with room for the layered socks. Did some water tests and seems to hold up. I’ve lived in the mountains with plenty of snow and feel these will work. Feet tend to run wide as its hereditary and I’ve worked from home for 6 years, barefoot or sandals daily.

Workout shoes only during workout. Sandals in the snow too, Cali girl. The boots are comfortable and feel they’re sturdy enough to hold up during my trip and future adventures.

I wore these this morning during a snow event and I had great traction but even more importantly my feet were warm, dry. They look super cute and I agree with the other reviews that these run a bit sung but I ordered a 1/2 size up from my usual 9 and they fit perfectly.

My feet aren’t wide and definitely aren’t narrow. There wouldn’t be room enough for heavy socks, but my feet were fine with regular weight socks. My only suggestion would be that the laces be longer.

If I want to loosen them up I wouldn’t be able to even tie them anymore.

These boots really exceeded my expectations! I wore them on a winter trip to Seattle, and then on a two week trip to New Hampshire. These are comfortable for almost any environment – plane rides, strolling for hours on city streets, and hiking in snow and ice covered forest trails.

I was initially worried about the white color getting dirty, but so far these boots have kept really clean. Dirty doesn’t seem to stick to them at all, which is a pleasant surprise.

These would have been perfect for what I wanted except for 2 factors. I found them a bit snug in the toe and being a size 12, going a half size bigger was not an option. The other thing was that while the insole cushioning was wonderful in the heel and arch, it felt like it nearly vanished forward of that.

This had the effect of subtly shifting my weight forward when walking, which both felt odd and made the snug toe area even more annoying. I almost loved them but had to return.

I have had the Bogs Classic High for two years before they wore out at the soles. And realized I need a new replacement. I felt that although the Classic Highs were a good boot, they wore out at the soles a bit prematurely than what I would have liked in a boot.

I feel that Bogs is ahead of the game on boot design and durability, and understand that rubber boots are not as long lasting due to the nature of the material compared to say leather boots. So I bought a Yulex collaboration boot that reminded me of my retired Classic Highs and immediately could tell there was a construction difference.

The boot does feel more refined to fit with less bulk and doesnt have the floppiness of the Classic High style. They also have ankle support, which is a cushion that wraps around your ankle. It doesnt feel overly obtrusive, but may at first before a break in period occurs, then it feels like its apart of your ankle, just holding gently enough to give support, but not so much as to cause any discomfort.

The boots have better lining on the inside, and a better inner sole design. So far they are holding up fine, but only after a month of use, the bottom sole looks like its designed for more terrain styles as well, almost like a sort of all season tire, rather than the mud lugs on the Classic High, which can wear out more on rougher ground.

So far so good, and highly recommend them to anyone. I use these professionally as a work boot in the fishing industry. -Chris VW.

Replaced an old pair of LL Bean slip-on duck boots with a pair of Bogs Bozeman Talls. Easy slip-on and perfect fit. Matches my running shoe size perfectly with room for heavy socks. Unexpectedly comfortable and warm interior footbed.

We’re in Iowa near the Minnesota border. Lots of sub-zero weather. And so far? Paired with heavy wool boot socks, there’s no need for additional insulation. Though Bogs offers a winter insulated version, the Bozeman Tall Yulex.

I’m out in the cold multiple times a day to walk our high-energy Brittany dog. Standing on cold concrete or frozen lake, my feet stay warm and comfortable. The easy, on-off is appreciated, as is the comfortable contoured footbed for walking.

The wide footprint provides confident traction. Much better than the narrow heel on traditional duck boots. On icy days I add a set of large slip-on Redwing Yaktrak ice grippers to my size 11 Bozeman boots.

The built-in loop handles are useful. I honestly can’t imagine a better pair of waterproof winter/wet weather boots. I’m a first-time buyer and very impressed. Fully justified the premium for Bogs. An unequivocal 5-stars.

As a chore boot, it’s a 5 star boot. The calf is roomy. The toe box doesn’t pinch. I can stand on uneven ground for hours without foot pain. Trudging through icy water, I don’t even feel the cold. The reason for the 4 star review? I’m a woman and have been told by Bogs for 4 years that they were releasing a women’s chore boot.

Why does this matter? I have narrow heels, so when I’m walking (I’m a pig and dairy farmer) my heel rides loose which has led to frequent turned ankles and I wear through the heels of my socks constantly.

Also, if I end up in deep mud it pulls the boot off. I also have a permanent chafe mark on my shins because the upper is too loose and when I’m lifting and bending the front of the boot rubs my skin.

But even with all that, it’s leagues more comfortable to work in than the competitor who produces the only chore boot with a composite toe made for women. I wear through a pair a year, and the weak spot is any place the boot flexes, like where the rubber meets the neoprene or across the toe box.

But I’m often working outside for 9-10 hours a day, in mud, ice, snow, uneven ground.

I love pretty much everything about these boots. Other hiking boots I’ve tried in this price range include Salomon X-Ultra 4 Mid GTX, X-Ultra 3 Mid GTX, various Merrell hiking boots and shoes, and The North Face waterproof hiking boots.

The Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry blow them ALL out of the water in terms of quality of materials, worksmanship, and especially durability. These boots have served me well for about a year now and could easily last another couple of years.

I am a landscaper by trade and wear these to work five days a week, and often for walks/hikes on the weekend. They’ve held up extremely well to my heavy usage. I’m telling you, both pairs of Salomon boots I owned fell apart faster than I’d expect a pair of Wal Mart boots to do the same.

These Oboz boots are different. More comprehensive review below. The Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry are made from quality materials, including leather with high-durability rubber in key places. They are plenty comfortable while also being HIGHLY supportive.

Immediately upon trying them I could tell they were a lot sturdier and more supportive than all of the others I’d tried up to that point. The insole felt high-quality by comparison. These boots are TRULY waterproof (within reason) while still being breathable enough for hot summer days in the high desert.

The rubber wrapped around the toe area and heel area of the boots seems to have done a ton to make these boots last longer. The sole of the boot might look strange at first glance, but I’ve found it a great and versatile sole shape.

I’ve worn these on all terrains in all weather while doing landscaping work. I’ve worn these on hot days, in torrential downpours, and also all throughout cold winters with heavy snowfall and ice. Somehow they manage to be breathable enough in summer and warm enough in winter with proper socks, and are still effectively waterproof.

In summary, if you are looking for possibly the best combination of quality, comfort, support, and durability in a hiking boot under $200: these are very likely the best value waterproof hiking boot out there.

Working as a landscaper is one of the best stress tests for a boot, and this one excelled. IMPORTANT NOTE: these absolutely run one-half size small. I’m normally a size 11, I ordered these in a size 11.

5 and it is perfect.

My first Oboz purchase (Bridger Premium Mid Waterproof HB); spur of the moment impulse/forced. I wouldn’t NORMALLY wear a Hiking Boot to work however this specific boot touched every point I look for in a work boot: Waterproof (NOT resistant, massive difference), Vibram sole, an anatomically designed SUPPORTIVE insert (NOT a flimsy piece of foam found in 98% of performance footwear), insulated and aesthetically pleasing.

If you’re reading this review you want to immediately call me out because the Bridger Features imply the boot is NOT insulated or a 2 out of 10, ten being highest insulation. The inside is lined in leather and VERY plush.

I’ve been wearing Woolrich and Smartwool crew socks, nothing technical, just the basic crew’s. Temps have been -10f to 40 most of Jan/Feb and my feet have yet to feel cold (I’m outside from 4am to 9am about 5 days a week).

I treated them with Apple Brand Garde Rain & Stain Water Repellent and so far they’re holding up brilliant. The boot itself feels and looks very well made. I do have higher arches and the premium inserts (I didn’t have to pay $50 extra) feel fantastic.

The first 3 days I felt the area around my ankles was a little stiff however not uncomfortable, otherwise the boot is ready to go right out of the box. Sizing is SPOT on, this was my biggest concern as boots tend to feel cramped especially in the toe box.

I’m a true 12 regular in most Nike and Hoka… the Bridger sizing does NOT disappoint. I NEVER give a product 5 stars as there’s always room for improvement, but I honestly can’t find anything wrong with them.

Maybe an additional set of laces in dark maroon or navy, but now I’m just being cheap and nitpicking. Are they worth $210? So far they’re worth every penny. Let’s see how long they hold up, that’s the REAL challenge any pair of footwear has….

So far, I’ve put about 30 miles on the Oboz Bridgers, and I also have a pair of Keen Durands with 200ish miles on them (along with a graveyard of worn out boots from other manufacturers). This review will contrast the two to highlight what I feel are shortcomings with the Bridger.

I bought the Oboz based on near-universal praise (I like to have two pairs of boots and had recently retired a pair of $95 Propets that performed admirably above their station). However, in almost every performance measure, I find the Oboz inferior to the Keen Durands.

Fit: These Bridgers are the narrowest “wide width” boots I’ve worn, though they are broken in now and have loosened a bit. Some describe them favorably as “snug. ” I see them as too tight laterally for my feet to get any airflow.

Keens, as everyone knows, are the roomiest boots out there for people like me who have duck feet. The Oboz are fine lengthwise, FWIW. Comfort: If you’re one of those hikers who like “feedback,” which I interpret as being able to feel the trail textures underfoot, you might enjoy these Oboz boots.

To me, they don’t offer enough protection. I feel every rock I step on, and once I hit mile five of a mountain hike, my feet start to feel banged up. The Durands, after 200 miles, are still quite comfy and provide a good barrier against trail hazards on long hikes.

Traction: I’m disappointed with the traction I get from the Oboz. My debut hike began with a fairly gentle uphill slope on hard-packed dirt that was damp (not muddy) from an overnight rain. The boots slipped out a couple times as the pitch increased.

The treads pack mud as well. If rocky terrain is slightly damp, I lose confidence with their grip. By contrast, even with 200 miles of wear, the Keens haven’t lost any gripping power. There’s one area in which the Oboz perform better, and that’s toe protection going downhill.

The flat(ish) toe box and extra roominess of the Keens can be a drawback on a sleep downhill slope, as the foot tends to slide forward a bit. All that said, the Oboz do seem to be a well-made boot. I just don’t think they’re ideal for the rocky or rainy environments I hike in.

I’d like to try them on a cool-weather desert hike or one of those gravelly coastal trails in Italy.

Extremely happy with these boots in all areas – EXCEPT for their ice traction (total fail). I needed winter boots that would be rugged and warm enough at the cottage (where it can reach -40), and waterproof with traction for the icy sidewalks in the city.

I have now tested them in -15 weather for about an hour, multiple dog walks below zero, a snowstorm that dumped over 50 cm, snow shoveling, walks on ice/snowy hills & puddles. Comfort & Support – awesome! – inner sole is hard(ish), but still very comfy and supportive – love the outer shell, feels like I’m sliding into a snowboard boot.

10/10 for support – material and inner lining is soft and cozy – love! – fit is excellent Waterproof – Yep! – no leaks after stepping in puddles, slush etc. – Snow did get in the boot while I was shoveling but that is to be expected when you are standing in 50 cm of deep snow wearing PJ’s and desperately trying to clear a small area for your dogs Warmth – excellent – my feet stayed toasty-warm during 1-hour walks in -15 degree temps.

I wore regular cotton socks. – I have yet to test at -40C Snow traction – excellent – The lugs are great for snow – climbed up and down snowy hills and through snowbanks, great traction for snow Ice traction – Total FAIL.

– description claims: “Temperature-sensitive lugs offer unrivaled grip so you can stride confidently across icy patches”. This suggests the boots should offer at least ‘some’ ice traction – they do not! – not only do these boots fail on ice, but they also fail on wet, cold sidewalks and snowy ice patches.

– When I’d walk on a wet, cold (starting to freeze) sidewalk, my toes would slide backwards each step, losing all grip. Overall I’m still very happy with them in most categories. Ice traction was an important feature for me and I did a lot of research so I’m REALLY disappointed on this one.

I would have been happy with just a little ice traction. but this is the reason they are getting four stars instead of five.

These caught my eye – I wasn’t aware North Face made snow boots. I wondered if they would live up to my expectations. So after carefully looking them over & doing a little reading, I decided to purchase.

They shipped out quickly (as all Finish Line purchases do) & when laid eyes on them I felt relatively confident they’d last. I could see & feel right away they were lightweight & waterproof & appeared to be a pretty well made boot.

You’ll notice North Face logo on toe, side back & tongue. I I slid my foot in & they couldn’t have fit any better. They’re spacious & comfortable without being too wide. I sized up so they could accommodate wearing thick socks (which they do).

I don’t yet know if thick socks are necessary to keep your feet warm because I haven’t worn them out for longer than about an hour in rainy 32°F weather (w/out thick socks). But they did just fine during that period.

Now if I had to determine any drawbacks, I’d have to say they could be a little taller. So if I were going to step out into several inches of untouched snow (which is entirely likely after a New England snowfall), the snow could be deeper than the height of the boot, but it’s important to note though that these do have a top eyelet so you can lace/tie them up all the way – to thwart the possibility of getting snow inside the boot.

There’s a “comfortable or everyday” lace-up & a totally laced up position. See photo attachments. But overall the boot height is a couple inches taller than a high-top sneaker for reference & has an attached tongue which will keep it from sliding off to the side.

If I’m not trudging through deep snow, I don’t anticipate any issues & no doubt my feet will remain protected from the winter conditions.

I received these as a present for this Christmas for myself and I could not wait to open them. They are perfect. Better than boots I bought before even from North Face. If I could walk on clouds this is it! Now some comments have said you have to go up in size but normally with most boots I have to move up to a 9 if wearing boot socks etc but not these.

They fit so well that I put them on to break them in and I don’t want to take them off! Normally your feet are sore after an hour during break in. Not at all so far with this boot. I am impressed. It was cold out today so went for a small hike about a half mile hike in the cold weather and my feet are toasty.

The only bad thing I could say is on me for not getting these boots sooner. My cowboy boots and other hiking boots are going in the top shelf of my closet I doubt they get much use now. I did get in a small amount of snow and the traction is impressive.

So far sheds water with no problem, walking through a small creek there were no issues and no leaks but it is not deep. These will keep my feet dry on fishing piers and banks I am sure. I felt stronger on my hike maybe it was just mental but these actually provide a lot of support and are soft unlike a lot of hiking boots that feel at best clunky and blocky at times.

For those who want a shallow boot… this is the ticket. These boots are solid and serve the purpose. These are my go to boots for fall bow hunting and in any weather. Come winter and snow though, I use a higher boot for better insulation and coverage.

This is a great shallow boot and I would buy again. The problem is…. These boots are made to last so I won’t be buying another pair for a long wile.

I am so pleased with these boots. I live at the beach and needed a boot to walk on the beach in the winter. I live on the Texas coast so I didn’t need extreme warmth but I definitely need waterproofing.

I read the reviews before I bought and they said the boot runs short so I sized up 1/2 size from 8. 5 to 9 and I’m glad I followed the advice. My foot is a bit narrow and the boot was a little wide for me even with socks.

I added an insole and now the fit is perfect. The boot was very stiff and not comfortable when I tried them on at home. I thought long and hard about returning them and finally decided to cut off the tag and wear them.

It was exactly the right decision and the boots softened up right away with some walking and became my favorite boots the second time I wore them. It poured down rain on Thanksgiving and I wore them to the family celebration even though they were more casual than I would have preferred.

I received more compliments than I’ve ever had for a pair of shoes! And positive comments came from men in my family that have NEVER noticed any of my shoes. These are great boots and I highly recommend them.

These boots are so cute! I read reviews before buying and everyone said they run small and to size up and I’m so glad I did! These boots definitely run small! However, even sizing up, they boots are still uncomfortable and tight in the shoebox area.

I have small (size 6) narrow feet and the 6. 5 size was still tight/narrow in the toes. The opening around the ankle is really large and the tongue is fixed, so you can’t tie them tighter. My foot constantly slides forward.

I tried walking around in my house in them for many days and they are honestly just so uncomfortable. I’m sad because they are so cute! I’m hoping the reason Sorel has discontinued these is because they’re working on making these cute boots more comfortable and size appropriate! I own other Sorel boots and love them, so I’m not sure why these are sized so differently and why they’re so uncomfortable.

We have a quarter acre very close to a river in north Florida our property consists of sand and more sand we’ve gone through more sneakers than I want to think about! So I started hunting for an indestructible boot that would be comfortable in our heat and be tough to take on our sand, weeds, and mystery territory where grand pop’s kayaks live as do the opossums.

We also have a long concrete driveway and Olde antique pavers… I have a proving ground here lol! These pass the test ! Now I do have to clean these every evening when he comes in, I put the crevice attachment on the vacuum and vacuum the insides I usually get about a half a pound of sand lol I Do remove the insole and wipe down.

Love them! I bought them in a size 9t and a 10t… I think they RUN SMALL. Also easy on easy off, the Velcro straps take a moment to get use to. But no issues with staying on.

Normally I’m wary of reviews that tell people to size up. I NEVER have that problem. I am a solid 8. 5 in every brand (including Skechers) and type of shoe. With that being said, my toe is crammed up against the front of these.

Not to mention there’d be zero room if I wanted to wear thick socks. I checked the size and it says 8. 5 but there’s no way, I’m sorry. This never happens to me with shoes. I’m beyond disappointed especially since I waited 2 weeks for these and they were a Christmas gift.

Now even if I exchange for a 9 I won’t get them in time for Christmas. So disappointed. They are very cute, but not really what I was looking for anyway; not a chance these would keep your feet dry in the snow or rain.

They’re for fashion only. Size up. Trust me.

These boots are really comfortable and cute. The arch support is really good. They are the kind of shoe that you can wear inside but are sturdy enough to actually wear in the muck and snow. I like to double up on my socks in the winter and these accommodate that nicely.

The only thing I wish was slightly different is the shaft height. I wish it was a little taller but that does not detract from the overall product.

I purchased these boots because I was visiting Utah and wanted something that would do well in snow. Well these boots didn’t disappoint. I’m not saying I walked though piles of snow, but there were times the snow did cover my feet and the boots held up well even when walking on slushy snow and ice.

There was some slippage on the ice at times, but really what do you expect when there’s ice involved. To sum it up; my feet were comfortable and dry.

I LOVE my boots. I received the grey version in size 7. 5 for Christmas which is my true size. They fit perfectly. I do not have particularly “wide” feet or “narrow” feet, and would say these fit comfortably.

It does not feel like you’re wearing a boot. They are not stiff, and flexible even when walking all day in them. I live in a snowy state and these keep my feet dry, and warm. It really just feels like you’re wearing your favorite pair of sneakers.

I was worried these would be a bit bulky but they are not at all. Very lightweight, very comfortable. I will be purchasing a second pair in a different color because I seriously love these so much! Highly recommend!.

If you are a girl on the go and have zero patience for the tall obnoxious winter boot that dictates your pant options- these boots are a must. They are the result of a hiking boot dad and high top sneaker mom that made the perfect cold weather baby.

Warm, waterproof, and so very stylishly comfortable. Love the red chalk color, which is out of my color wheel for boots but they work! A muted color so they are very versatile that I feel will match up with everything and make a statement while doing it.

Bye bye boring beige/neutral. not on these feet this winter.

I’m almost mad at how great these winter boots are! I wish I’d had them every winter. They’re comfortable like sneakers, and they’re super warm, to the point where it feels like my feet are heating up the rest of my body.

The thick sole is definitely making it more of a squishy/bouncy walking feeling, rather than an efficient/tight walking feeling, but I don’t really mind — they’re not heavy, and the cushioning seems nice to have.

I’ve been enjoying these so much that several times now I ended up walking much farther than I had been meaning to 🙂 Regarding the size, my feet are pretty wide so on the recommendation of a few reviews here, I sized up half a size and have not regretted this.

I LOVE THESE BOOTS! so much so that I am on the ugg site now thinking of buying them in the tan/chestnut color! They are so warm, so comfy, so stylish, literaly the perfect winter boot! I needed something for the cold, snow and rain and these fit the bill! They are durable but not heavy and over bearing! They look good with jeans or my color weather leggings.

The sheepskin on the inside is great and the main reason I buy uggs! Between gifts and buying myself I have gotten these, a black pair of ugg tasmans and my boyfriend bought me both a black and chestnut pair of uggs classic boots for christmas and I am still obsessed as I was when I wore them 10 years ago in high school.

Ive had multiple colors and styles (mainly classic/tall boots and tasmans) when I was growing up and kinda grew out of them and I dont know why! I am so glad I am back on that train because they are great! I even got a few pairs of the boot socks and they are just as warm and as great! I just have to decide if I want to spend the money on a second pair but with my $20 coupon and the roughest months of the winter coming up I think I am going to do it! The price is higher but justified and worth it! I wear a size 8.

5 in sneakers and heels and 9 in most boots because I wear thicker socks and I got these in 9 and they were a perfect fit! I have been trying to add a photo with my review for 2 days because I feel like it helps people so much to see pictures of the product being used or on peopke but it just keeps doing the loading symbol so ill add some photos if I can ever get it to go thru!.

They weren’t the color I thought they were, which isn’t the biggest deal. I got them to match my pink northface, that is a rose pink color. This were in between that color and like a mauve. I’m not really sure what color they’d be considered; but that’s not the problem.

The material was extremely cheap. I wanted to be sure for myself, but people’s photos of them peeling were real. I’ve had the IIs for 6 years now. They still keep my feet warm. The inside is a bit warn, but no water gets in and they’re still pretty comfortable.

The leather on them is incapable of being penetrated. There is not one rip in the leather of these 6 year old boots. The IIIs that I bought recently, and returned the same day (today), when I received them, looked like they wouldn’t last a winter.

I can’t for the life of me believe they were real leather. Then they had the nerve to have a blue ink stain on them, in additionto being poorly crafted. I can’t help but feel the good reviews are from people who just love ugg, and don’t care about quality over brand.

These boots were garbage, and absolutely not worth $265. Do not waste your time. If you do, the only good thing is Nordstrom’s amazing return policy. But I’d rather wear my old ones and find an alternative brand, than give these ridiculous boots a chance.

I didn’t bother to try them on, so I couldn’t tell you about sizing.

I love these boots so much, I own three pairs. A tan shorty and tan tall. I also own a black tall pair. I live in Alaska and walk my dog at least three times a day year In ALL weather, rain, snow. , mushy snow.

We also travel to the beach daily. I am a very true size 7 and bought these in a 7 and wear thin Smartwook socks with them. No padding on the socks. I suppose if I were to wear anything more than these socks, they might be tight in the toe box.

These boots have real wool lining and a comfy bed so they are warm without thick socks. I love them because (although I still love my SOREL’s), these boots feel like wearing sneakers. They are not stiff.

The leather is soft. These are the only shoes I wear in the winter. It rains or snows in Juneau, Alaska so when the temperature drops, I start wearing these everywhere I go. They are waterproof to a point.

I likely overdo it on walking through water and slushy snow. Eventually they do get a little wet, but you have to try really hard and this only happened after a couple years of wear. ( I reently pulled the yak traks of two pairs and greased them up).

When the snow turns to mush, and threaten to get my boots wet, I will let you know how well the waterproffing went.

I bought our third pair of Kamik boots and now all of my children have them. This is a sturdy boot that I would recommend for outdoor play and chores. They aren’t the kind of boot you would wear to the grocery store.

They have held up for several years and have been handed down to younger siblings. A good price for a good boot!.

I purchased these boots to replace a pair of well worn Sorel’s that I had for 20+ years. Tread pattern is OK in the snow, but I’d say not quite as much traction as “bob” style soles. As recommended, if you plan to wear heavy socks order next size up.

Slightly narrow in my opinion. The Velcro strap does not allow for as secure a fit as laces, but is tight enough for shoveling, snow blowing, etc. Not secure enough for hunting or long hikes. Good boots for the price.

I have a bad back, so zips vs laces work best for me. Laces irritate nerves across foot, anyway. These have what I consider another hard-to-find feature: a removable footbed. I wear custom orthotics, so that is necessary.

Even so, my orthotics are pretty much guaranteed to be thicker and larger than the factory footbed. So I need to usually size up to accommodate, and even then – fitting something that wasn’t made for the shoe is just tricky and doesn’t often work.

It’s just mythology that it is likely you can swap footbeds. Then, well, my narrow heel usually slips and rubs blisters either due to extra height from orthotic or extra size needed. I mean, ever since I was a kid, parents had to special order shoes to fit my narrow heel.

My forefoot is not narrow, and splays out easily. It can be compressed but not without pain/injury/degeneration, and it will expand to about as much room as you can give it. My shoes never appear worn at joint sites, etc, because it’s my feet that conform, not the other way around.

So decent fit is important. You can kinda see where I’m going – I have a particular list of needs that is hard to find in real life. I was a bit torn at first, as the footbed is kinda hard, and the volume is shallow (translation: it’s made for flat feet.

I have super- high arches, high-volume feet) Also, for anyone sensitive to these things, there is a bit of pitch in the heel. I’ve got to get the sock thickness just right, and if my feet are particularly swollen, that zipper won’t get zipped regardless of sock.

I do have to be sure my heel is in good and might still struggle with the zipper due to my arch height. But – my custom orthotics actually DO fit into these, and after going up a size, I can wear them! Also, the ankle area is what I’d consider sleek.

Often, anything narrow in the ankle can rub me in an annoying way – I have no issues with these while wearing socks underneath. So I can wear these with jogger pants and keep a sleeker, unbroken leg line.

I also like that the white bottom keeps them from looking clunky. I just feel the cream should have also had a white sole. (I have a connective tissue disorder, hence all my princess and the pea requirements) Also, my toes are pretty square, and often shoes don’t accommodate that and my last couple toes will have no room.

They are a bit puffy in the arch area. I’m sure my big orthotics push this area out a bit, anyway, but that part was not the best fit and could match my foot shape better. I measure just under a nine.

Can wear certain sandals in 8. 5 but never closed shoes. A nine is usually generous in length for me (unless it cuts in for the last toes) I got these in a ten. I am actually surprised a shoe this low-volume can work for me.

It’s all a crapshoot, go figure. They aren’t the most flattering things in the world but also aren’t exactly clunky-looking. Maybe a little ducky but you’d need more than a passing glance to notice. I wish they’d look cute with casual dresses as well as pants, but I can prob give up on finding that unicorn when an orthotic is involved.

As far as warmth, I’d tend to believe it matters less what the shoe is made of and more how thick the sole is to create distance between a cold ground and the bottom of your foot. Just my experience.

With these, I can tell if there’s a stiff wind, but for as thin as they are, they are a perfectly acceptable “warmth” for me – it’s just the mesh that seems most vulnerable to me in cold temps. Def no room to add lambs wool or whatever! I’m just street-walking in these – not putting them through any sort of “ringer”.

So I dunno how they’d hold up under actually athletic conditions. They don’t seem poorly-made, but I also won’t expect them to be the workhorse quality that I’ve had elsewhere. I also wouldn’t Step into a puddle with these if possible, but a light rain for short time seems ok.

Overall, beggars can’t be choosers – if I can walk in them without excess pain, it’s a win! Box checked.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these shoes!!! SUPER COMFORTABLE and stylish! Have had many compliments on them ever since I got them. First weekend I wore them we had about 6 inches of snow fall and my feet stayed completely dry walking to and from the car.

Though, I wouldn’t wear these shoveling, sledding, or in heavy rain and expect your feet to stay completely dry. But, they definitely keep your feet dry while in and out of the car while running errands in winter weather.

I normally wear a size 6. 5 but, I ordered a 7 (I saw that reviewers said they run small). They do fit just right; like a 6. 5. As for the width. I have medium width feet and these fit like a medium width tennis shoes.

Lastly, if you have average to slim calves these shoes will zip up comfortably.

These boots are awesome! Super warm. Super comfy. Super unique. The only thing that I really don’t like about them and kept me from giving them 5 stars are the side, pull on straps with the brand name on them.

They look rad and can be helpful, but unless you’re wearing long socks or pants that tuck inside the boot, where the straps are sewed inside the boot scratch against your leg and really hurt! I never wear long socks, so if I just need to throw my boots on to go take out the garbage or get the mail or do a quick activity outside, I’d have to put on some long socks first or every step would be so uncomfortable and my legs would get all scratched up.

Other than that, I really love them!:) Sizing is perfect. I’m a 9-91/2 in regular shoes and get a size 10 in boots.

I owned this boot in the brown color previously. I purchased it from a local retailer. They were warm and kept my feet dry and the traction was quite good. The boots were quite roomy, and I have a difficult time finding boots that are a good fit due to the unusual sizing of my feet.

I also liked the fact that I could wear them with extra socks which helped to keep my feet toasty and warm. The only problem I had was the area at the top where I could thread the laces through. I did not know at the time that Bearpaw had a return policy for their boots, if I did I would have replaced them.

They lasted me a good three years in inclement weather, and with prolonged waits for buses and walking through as much as four or more feet of snow. I got a lot of compliments from other people and even met a few people who stated that they had a family member who had purchased from Bearpaw, or purchased a pair like mine.

What are the odds? I don’t write reviews, but I feel in this case this company deserves one for this pair of boots. I would recomend them. I generally wear out my shoes pretty quickly, but I still have these as standbys for taking out the garbage and that type of things.

I am anticipating buying a new pair, and if possible an additional pair this year. I think for the price point they are a good investment. I have read other reviews elsewhere and most of them tend to be quite favorable.

Frankly, I’m surprised that there are not more here.

These boots are so cool! I can’t wait till we get snow so I can try them out. Walked around the house and they are so comfy and cozy. I normally wear an 8 1/2 and if I remember correctly they only come in full sizes (?) but these 9 worked out perfectly.

There is enough room in them for my winter socks without feeling like squished. So I suggest getting the 1/2 size up. And they will be perfect to tuck my jeans or leggings in. And my calves are a bit bigger but fit great there too.

Really cute and love the color. And can’t beat the price for name brand. A+++.

I just moved to Chicago from NC, so I needed a pair of warm winter boots, mainly for walking my dog. These were the only pair I tried on and they fit perfectly! I didn’t even try anything else on or any other size.

I normally wear anywhere from an 8. 5-9. 5 in boots, but the 8’s fit me perfectly with room for a good thick pair of socks (although I don’t think I will need them because the boots are so warm)! I didn’t even need to try on the 9’s.

My main decision to purchase was based on how easily I could slip them on and off. *It’s October, so I haven’t used them yet. I will try to submit another review after using them throughout the winter!.

I have received many compliments on these adorable well manufactured winter boot. Purchased the Cognac color which has a nice contrasting gray fabric upper to the brown leather and black rubber base.

Pictures on site are a great color representation. I wear a size 7 shoe and wasn’t sure whether a 7 or 8 would be best. Believe it or not, both fit great. With one pair of wool socks in the size 7, I could wiggle my toes easily.

If I were more active outside they would have been the keeper but I chose the 8’s. I can easily wear one or two pairs of socks with these and double my guarantee of staying warm when I’m standing or sitting still for long periods of time.

Great boots! They are great with any outfit I have and the best thing is that they keep my feet toasty warm. I do wear them with medium weight wool socks. I normally wear a 7. 5 shoe size, and since these don’t come in 1/2 sizes, I was surprised that the 7 fit me perfectly.

I love how I don’t need to unlace and lace them everytime I put them on and if I d to tighten them up, it quick as a whip (one pull to tighten them). I’ve only owned them for one month, but I’m thinking that they will last for many years.

I ordered 3 pairs of Baffins in different styles for my husband. He is usually a size 10. 5 and I ordered 3 pairs in 11 thinking that would give him room for socks. Every pair felt tight on him but he liked the style and feel of the icebreaker boots – they are surprisingly flexible and not as clunky as they look.

So I called Altitude Sports and they guided me on how to return the boots – and they ordered me a new pair of Icebreakers in size 12 at the discount price that I’d originally bought them in, even though the sale was over.

They arrived shortly and my husband loves them. He has trouble keeping his feet warm in winters even with multiple pairs of socks in his normal boots – so it’s like the best gift ever to have warm feet.

The liners also hold his feet in a way that he likes, so that they don’t slip about (he has thin feet). I would advise people to order at least a size up if you want to wear a pair of thick socks in them! These boots have been a game changer for my husband in the -30c temperatures we’ve been having in Alberta lately.

I also want to say that the service team at Altitude Sports are really warm and friendly – great to deal with.

I don’t usually do reviews (generally doesn’t cross my mind), but these boots are amazing. You’ll likely need to go up a size because of the thick insulation, I’d recommend trying them on for sizing before ordering or finding a good sizing chart and doing some measurements.

That same thick insulation makes these things feel like a cloud to walk on. I do a lot of winter camping, ice fishing, and hiking in the winter and these stand up to all temperatures/conditions I have experienced so far (for reference, I live in Southern Ontario, but also visit mid-Ontario – Algonquin/Muskoka/Huntsville in winter – have used these as low as -40C so far during a 3 day winter camping/ice fishing trip in Orillia area).

If anything, they might be too warm! (Leave the laces loose while you are driving if you don’t want sweaty feet). For how beefy and insulated they are, they don’t feel heavy. A lot of people seem to be upset about the lacing system but I think it is great (I just tuck the lace ends under the crossed laces at the front of the boot to avoid them flopping around).

I really wanted to give this boot the full five stars and if it were possible it would be 4. 5 stars but I am facing the problem of the shoelaces chafing the tongue right where the ankle bends. I have only been wearing these boot for a total of 12 hours so I have some warranted concerns.

With that being said, I am trying an alternate method fo lacing that will hopefully remedy the situation. BUT LETS BE CLEAR: This boot is, without a doubt, the MOST COMFORTABLE footwear I have ever put my feet into.

Not only is this boot shockingly lightweight, but the outer sole is tough as nails, the traction is ideal, and when you put your foot into this boot, it will feel like your foot is receiving a big hug from a memory foam pillow.

When I am in the woods with this boot my feet are toasty warm and I feel like I’m walking in a pair of running shoes. Do yourself a favor. Stop looking. YOu have found the boot you want.

They fit true to size, which is unfortunate for me because I ordered the largest women’s size available (10) and I normally take a 10. 5. Which means, sadly, that they must be returned since I need a half size larger.

Otherwise, I was pleased with their wide toe box and relatively light weight (compared to heavy winter boots from brands like Sorel). I ordered these boots for hiking and snowshoeing in temps as cold as -30C.

With Reynaud’s, I have a difficult time keeping toes and fingers warm even in moderately cold temps. I have ordered a men’s size 9 to see if those will work because I was so pleased with the women’s 10s (other than being too short).

I know they will be wider but maybe they will work. One final note, they are quite stiff so I am expecting some break in time. My normal hiking boots are the Salomon Quest 4D, which are far less stiff (but not as warm) and they required zero break-in time.

I wanted to love these and keep them; however, I found them a bit too bulky in the toe area for me. I know that style is not the main concern/function of these boots; however, for the price it was an issue for me.

I didn’t keep them so I can’t speak to the performance; however, when I tried them on they were comfortable (used my thick winter socks) and felt sturdy. They didn’t feel as light as I had expected based on the description.

That is understandable; however, when you consider the high quality materials used and the purpose of these boots. My intention with these boots was to use them for snowshoeing, casual winter hikes, and overall warmth in -23 Quebec days.

If they go on sale I may repurchase them, but for full price and for my limited use, I couldn’t justify the cost.

I sized up a half size. I was about to order the next size up but decided the length wouldprobably be too long. This would be a really great boots with lots of extra to room for someone with an average or narrow foot.

I think that’s a weaknesses and it’s not quite enough support to be winter running bpot. Play warm enough to be a go to winter boot. However they might work really great for you are you on your foot shape.

My toes feel cramped inside and under supported through the midfood. But for a boot- it’s a really nice fit. As for me I’m still searching for a boot with ample toe room for extra socks and regular shaped toes (wide?) and some decent decent support.

I’ve had these boots for about a month and walked approximately 5 miles in them through woods, creekbeds and trails, some steep terrain, no mud, snow or ice yet. My favorite boots were Pronghorns before but I decided to try these because I don’t the Pronghorns are made as well as they used to be.

Fit – Somewhat narrow, had to order an E width in my normal size. I have never worn a shoe wider than a medium width before. Comfort – Pretty good so far. These seem to be breaking in fairly quickly.

Lacing them and getting the tongue to lay right is a little difficult. It seems like they should have had about 1/2″-3/4″ less tongue width and I do not have skinny legs. These definitely aren’t light boots but I am hoping that what they lack in lightness will be made up for in ruggedness and durability.

Quality – The leather and stitching looks pretty good as do the linings and soles. Fit and finish was a little better than Hood Lights I tried before these. These still have the unsewn top of the tongue which seems like it will absorb water, same as the Hoods.

The insoles were decent, not great, I replaced them. I much prefer an insole over the Hoods where your foot bears directly on the sewn in liner. Traction – Seems to be very good on the forest floor. A little sketchy on wet rock or pavement.

Particularly the toe seems to slip when pushing off on these particular surfaces. The middle lugs of the sole project out a bit further than the perimeter of the sole so walking on a hard surface like pavement feels like the bottom of the sole is rounded.

This feeling disappears on the forest floor and the soles seem to lock into the soil and leaf letter very well. Sidehilling is much better than in the Pronghorns with their hard midsole that will slip anytime you step down on a stick or rock while sidehilling.

Curious to see how these will do in snow and icy conditions. Waterproofing – I have not had these boots submerged yet so I can’t say too much on waterproofing with confidence. I have walked in wet grass and the water beads off of the leather pretty well.

I have treated the boots with one light application of Obenauf’s LP. All in all, I would give these 4. 5 stars right now if I could. I am confident they will end up being good, if not great, boots for my needs.

Whether they are 4 star or 5 star depends on waterproofness, snow and ice handling, and durability and I won’t know all of that for sure until I’ve used them for a few years.

This boot is amazing! I am flat footed so I am very picky and limited to footwear. I was able to try on the Elk hunter, Grouse, and Santiam. This boot locked my heel in and was snug all the way to the toe.

I do not recommend this but out of the box these boots were awesome. Adulting, parenting, work, and life in general got in the way of working these boots in before spending deer season in the mountains.

I was wiped out everyday back at camp but my feet were NEVER part of my pain. They were a definite stretch for me on the price but I will buy this boot over and over again if I need to. The lugs held up during freezing weather, snow, and rain, rocks, and logs.

Very steep terrain kept my ankes locked it place. I have had an issue with reliability in danner boots waterproof longevity so hopefully that lasts.

Craftsmanship top notch. Fit true to size. Have worn them a couple of times around the house getting them broken in and they get more comfortable each time. My only complaint is the cheap insoles that come with them.

I bought the upgraded insoles and they are 100 times better. For the money the boots cost you would think they would be included. Ordering was hassle free and they arrived within 2 days. Thanks for a great made in the USA product.

These boots are cute and just what I wanted for casual walks this winter. The sole is lightweight and flexible, unlike hiking or snow boots. Unfortunately, I have to return them because although I bought a full size larger than I normally wear, they are way too snug even with lightweight socks.

Like other reviewers have pointed out, the tongue is attached to the boot at the sides so you are unable to pull it all the way forward to put on the boot. It was somewhat awkward but because I went up a full size, I could get my foot in easily.

The problem is that the seam/joint where the tongue is attached produces a hard knot which rubs against my ankle bone. No amount of breaking in will fix that. Fortunately The North Face makes returns simple.

These are my favorite winter boots ever! Where I live there is snow on the ground for 4 months a year, and as a professional skier I am pretty much living in the snow all winter. These are warm, comfortable, and waterproof–I haven’t worn another pair of footwear pretty much all winter (except for ski boots of course).

They are great for kicking around outside, going to and from the mountain, hanging out in the cold, doing errands, and I’ve even taken them for walks, snowshoes, hikes, and an impromptu jog or two. They are lower-cut than most winter boots I’ve worn but since I love them so much it hasn’t mattered–if I am walking around in deep snow I just wear snow pants and I clip the small hook on the gusset/gaiter of my snow pants (TNF Brigandine Futurelight Bibs) over one of the laces on these boots and I don’t have any issues getting snow down the boots.

Now it’s mud season and I’m still wearing them every day!.

I bought this product for my daughter for Christmas. She’s very pleased with it. What I do want to add, though, is that I and my family have purchased both at your San Francisco flagship store, and online, many of your products through the years.

In particular, your jackets are outstanding. Your materials and styles are of the best quality and last for an extremely long time. My only hope is that you continue to carry on this tradition of quality, wear, practicality and style.
