20 Best Sneakers For Hallux Rigidus (2023 Updated)

I suffer from Haglund’s Deformity – which is an enlargement of the bony section of your heel. My feet are also wide. I have a tendency to wear out shoes by boring a hole right through the back of the shoes due to the bones at the back of my feet sticking out an additional inch, which continue to grow – and is painful.

I have not had any issues with these shoes as there is extra thick padding in the rear of this shoe and the shoes seem to “cradle” my heels. I walk 5 to 6 miles a day in these shoes. So far, 200+ miles walked in this pair and I’m not experiencing any problems.

I did add an additional gel insert mostly for my toes, which are also not normal – they are curved – which helps out. But thus far, this is the best walking show I have found in terms of its cost relative to having a shoe constructed for my feet – which is big bucks.

I hope to get at least 2,000 miles out of them. If I can get 2,000 miles plus per pair out of these shoes, I’ll keep buying them. I’m on my second pair – the first had well over 2,000 miles on them and I had to replace them because I had worn the rubber off the bottoms to the point that water would seep into them if I stepped in water.

These are good shoes for the cost and deliver an exceptional value.

The shoes look good and fits perfectly. I have very high arches, and the cushioned gel support makes these a;mong the most comfortable shoes. Also, I love the velcro straps, which makes fastening shoes quick and easy.

The shoes also look great, which I cannot often say for other velcro strapped shoes.

Leather shoes that you can polish with the Kiwi brand “Black Parade Gloss” for that great look. Also, very comfortable to wear! Velcro straps are a BIG plus.

I just want to say, I never write reviews. I think this might be my first on a product ever. My son has cerebral palsy and has worn an AFO on his left leg since he was about 4 years old. Finding shoes to fit such a wide and cumbersome addition to his foot was nearly impossible.

We would spend HOURS trying on shoes, only to try to squeeze on a pair of crocs in desperation over his orthotic. One day while out searching we happened upon a pair of Keen Chandler CNX (at that time, the little kids version), and miracle of miracle, it fit!!! Since then, for the past 6 years, we have ONLY bought Keen Chandler CNX for our son.

The soles withstand his uneven walking, the ridiculous wear and tear from his AFO, and the general craziness of a 10 year old boy. Not only that, but this company has been SO GOOD to people with disabilities who require two different sized pairs of shoes.

I honestly cannot sing their praises enough and tell every parent of kids with orthotics that they need to buy Keen shoes. WE LOVE THIS COMPANY!!.

My 5-year-old found these shoes so uncomfortable that she refuses to wear them. She says that they “press her feet on the sides” and also complained that she could feel the bungees through the thin padding of the tongue, which apparently also was intolerable.

I tried to explain how shoes sometimes need to be “broken-in”, but she’s not buying it. She has had 4 previous pairs of Newports that she has had no problem with. Maybe they used a different last for this model? Other than the fact she refuses to keep them on her feet for more than 30 seconds, they seem totally fine in every way.

I’ll be returning these.

Great quality shoes. Fit true to size chart. Light and durable. My daughter loves them and this is her third pair. Excellent for camp and general outdoors.

My son destroys his shoes. We bought a lower cost sneakers from a reputable company, and they lasted about 2 weeks before showing holes. Keen shoes last much longer and are better quality IMHO.

Keen shoes seem to fit kids well. I found many youth hiking shoes too narrow in the forefoot but these fit just right. It would be nice if this shoe was offered in a waterproof version.

I have bunions on both feet and have had nothing but problems finding wide (2E) shoes in the usual suspects of brands. I have owned Han Wag shoes before and loved them. Keep these in good shape and you can re-sole them and they will last a lifetime.

Valhalla Pure was amazing as they caught the fact that I had accidentally ordered the wrong size shoe. Awesome customer support. Overall a great experience to purchase a great product. Han Wag is a great shoe company.

Love them. Purchased them , wore around the house one day and left on vacation. Did not need a break in period. Very comfortable and my bunion did not act up. Since they are suede I was worried about cleaning.

After a hike I just brushed off with a soft brush. No slipping on the hike through gravel, shallow creeks, steep hills. I had never heard of this company. Recommend by a friend and glad she pointed me in this direction.

My teenage son purchased these for work In a restaurant. You can easily wipe the surface clean if something drops on the top of the shoe. Stay away from mesh shoes if you are going to be around food or lots of dirt.

He wears a size 12 regular. They only had a 12 wide in the store and it ended up fitting perfectly, so don’t let the wide option deter you if that is all that is available. These are slip resistant shoes with very small grooves on the bottoms.

Only complaint is food sticks in those grooves so he keeps the shoes on the screen porch after work – not in the house- if he didn’t, our dog would lick the food and yuck out otherwise! Great shoe for what is is made for.

Bought a few weeks ago. Needed something comfortable for work since I’m on my feet all day and possibly suffering from plantar fasciitis. Initially very comfy. But since I stand and walk over 8 to 10 hours a day, I had to add an additional insert after a couple weeks, which did help with comfort.

Besides that these are pretty good. Haven’t had much rain yet but these keep my feet pretty so far.

I bought these shoes just a short time ago, and have never worn them outside. The shoes are indeed comfortable, but have a few flaws which kind of ruin it for me somewhat. First of all, the tongue is too short.

When you go to tie the shoe, the knot winds up against your ankle because there is no tongue to tie it against. Which leads to the second problem, that the laces are way too long! So unless you want the bows of the laces hanging out the sides of the shoes, you have to double tie them.

Also, because it is a fabric and not leather, I can already see the shoe becoming distorted. I guess I will get used to it all, but I wish I did not have to.

A last minute impulse purchase, these were the right size, color, and style for a European vacation as I didn’t want to wear gym shoes every day in Paris. These did not disappoint! Stylish and comfortable, these shoes had a roomy toe box and comfortable sole.

I walked 18,000 miles in pure comfort on cobblestone streets and up the Arc de Triomphe. Even my danish clogs couldn’t do that! So happy with these black pull ons that work with jeans or trousers.

Comfortable. But the backs are a bit stiff and rub up against your ankles and not in a new shoes way, it’s actually quite rough on the back. Would be nice if they had some soft cushioning back there.

Otherwise great. Very comfortable to walk in all day. Some people have said they don’t like how round they are but I don’t mind. It’s just a different look is all.

I bought these since they looked like boots and were Dr. Scholl’s. Comfort is a number 1 priority. They are very comfortable but a little narrow. They do take time to break in. I didn’t wear long socks at first, and they rubbed against the back of my foot which was disappointing.

I had to wear long socks with them the first few times after that. As long as they break it, they’re great!.

Just got these and love them already (although I’ll update this after a few months use). I do a lot of travel with my young kids, from days out to long haul summers away in China wear my wife is from.

For ages I’ve been looking for footwear which is: 1 – Rugged and practical enough for scrambling around muddy parks, adventure playgrounds and the mean streets of Shanghai (and easy to clean when they get dirty).

The Ons I’ve used for running on and off-road have always been very tough and grippy, and these seem like they’ll be just as tough. Also, the vegan leather looks like it’ll wipe clean if I step in anything horrid.

2 – Light, cushioned and supportive enough to be comfortable on a twelve hour flight or a day walking about with a four year old on my shoulders. These feel like the bounciest Ons I’ve owned, and I’m even tempted to try a proper run in them.

3 – ‘Smart casual’ enough to be acceptable in a 4* hotel bar. Buddha knows I’m no expert on what’s currently cool, and trainers seem to be allowed anywhere I’m likely to go these days, but I’ve still got some pride in what’s left of my appearance.

These look good enough to me. 4 – and hardest to find of all – quick to take on and off but still foot-hugging. I’m constantly having to take my shoes on and off rapidly as my boys hurtle in and out of softplays and gardens.

It’s also nice to be able to skip them on and off easily on a long flight. Slip on trainers and Chelsea boots are one possibility, but the former can slip off in a scramble and the latter feel like they’re rattling around a bit.

The latch/unlatch laces of these really work. So, these seem like the perfect active travel shoe. If you’re listening, On, please keep making these in a size 13. 5, and if you ever decide to discontinue them, let me know and I’ll buy a few pairs to keep me going!.

My first pair of On and I made a mistake. The shoes look better in pics than in real life. In my opinion, it’s awkwardly designed – especially the upper exterior of the shoe. I’m new to the bottom sole technology and it seems to be fine – different than say Hoka or New Balance.

The upper part is where I ran into issues. The suede upper gave my big toe some discomfort the first few outings. I’m unsure if this is meant to be a performance shoe or not (highly doubtful). This, I think, works if you are wearing it mostly for walking or standing – definitely not a performance running or hiking shoe.

Thought about returning it but since I put a few miles on it as a true test, I’m stuck.

I got these shoes for my 10-year old. Our family loves Keen products and their quality, but this one was a big miss. I was very disappointed in how quickly the outer sole wore, to the point that a hole formed (I could touch my son’s sock).

My son had these for less than 6 months and didn’t even wear them hiking or on rough terrain. We even alternate his shoes to extend their longevity. The upper is nice, and we appreciate the velcro closure; however, this poor quality wasn’t what I expected from Keen and to have spent $50 on these was a waste.

My 4yr old loved it from the day he started wearing it. We compared it to Merrell- main difference is the sole for this shoe is softer (more grip) and more flexible. Merrell could be more supportive for long hikes, but we usually do ~4miles, so more flexible sole is better for his feet to learn to walk properly and not over rely on shoe cushioning/support.

This is my second pair. I notice On was phasing this specific style out, so I went ahead and bought a backup pair. I have massive feet pain from years of wearing heels and running marathons and for a while, after a hairline fracture, I thought I’d never run again.

Every shoe hurt, even brands I’d run in before: Saucony, Brooks, whatever. Normal sneakers hurt me too, just walking around/shopping/etc. On the recommendation of a friend, I actually bought the first pair just to walk around on a 2 week trip in Europe, and I couldn’t believe how unbelievably light they were.

They weight almost nothing and after they gave me zero pain during the Europe trip, I decided to try to run in them and lo and behold, no pain. I tried other models of Cloud running shoes, and these were the most comfortable for me.

I bought them for our two year olds and our four year old and they’re exactly what I was looking for. Light, flexible, good support, reinforced toe and grippy. They’re also really easy to get on and off and dry quickly.

The kids like wearing them, and they use them for trails, biking, playgrounds and everything else kids do outside. I’ll be ordering these over and over again as the kids’ feet grow. No need to look for any other sneaker.

My 92 year old mother-in-law has terrible foot problems – bunions, fallen arches, arthritis. I spent hours researching shoes. bought 2 pair (another brand) and returned them. The Apis 628E shoes are soft and comfortable, yet supportive.

Plus the lugs/treads on the bottom will prevent slipping. I do wish the shoes gripped the heels a bit more. Other than that, the shoes are superb.

Looking for a specific color and Backcountry showed me the color when I searched but when I received my confirmation email it was the wrong color. I still took the shoe but they have charged my credit card 2 times.

It was a Visa gift card about to expire. Backcountry cannot do anything about it since they have tried to reverse the charge. Credit card says I have to wait 8 to 10 days and the card expires.

This shoe comes in two colors and I have both of them. I have lower back issues and these are easily the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I also have the Cloud Vista and the Cloud edge high top hiking shoe.

All high quality and super light and comfortable. All were true to size as per the sizing chart.

Bought into the hype of this new technology thinking that they’d feel any different than other shoes, but 3 or so months of near-daily use I can say that they’re just shoes. They are comfortable, but the difference between these and any other shoes I’ve worn are so minimal that it just feels like a gimmick.

On the bright side it gives you plenty of space to stash your snacks in the soles of the shoes haha.

I am happy with the product for the price have been wearing for the last 2 weeks. Only issue is steel cap rubs on bog toes. Apart from that I am happy with the product.

I love the way my new “Indestructible” shoes fit. I have a wider foot, so most shoes are very uncomfortable for my feet. These shoes are perfect for my wider shoes size. I also love that the “Conquer” shoes have added ankle support for me.

First the good things about the shoes … they are very lightweight and breathable and they are comfortable to wear. But there is one think what I don’t like they are very tight it’s very hard to get the shoes on your feet.

It’s very hard to get into it and takes much longer then any other shoe I have. Maybe they get bigger when I use them daily? Who knows only the future will tell. But until then it’s what I don’t like.

I was pleasantly surprised by the look and feel. They are bye far the best work shoes I have experienced since over 25 plus years of other more heavy work shoes I owned. Thank you for your product. I definitely will encourage others to try them.

Once broken in, these are great slippers/slip-ons for around the house. I was looking for something to replace some Olukai slip-ons for winter, and these DO fit that bill. They run a little small, especially for “winter” slip-ons — because you’re probably going to wear them with some socks.

As for break-in, the collapsing heel will feel a little more bulky than you’d like for the first few days. The sides will eventually stretch a little, and the elastic that makes up the collapsing heel will lay flatter.

Overall, a great shoe, just be prepared that they aren’t “out of the box” comfy — that’ll take 5-6 wearings.

These randomly caught my eye in-store while I was purchasing heels. I bought them with the intention of having separate sneakers for walking my dogs and running errands. And boy do I absolutely love them! They’re not only unique, but they are also breathable, comfortable and so easy to slip on.
