The safe is very heavy for its size, but is fairly roomy inside. The locking mechanism is stiff and a little tricky to use, especially with the complication of the safety key. You have to have the arrangement of locking lever, key position, and dial just right to get the safe open and closed.

The combination is on a sticker on the back of the instruction manual so be sure to keep it handy when unpacking! Speaking of unpacking, the best way to remove the package is to peel it off in sections.

If you are having it delivered, be sure to have the driver give it to you in person and check it carefully for damage. After you open it, there is no way you are going to repack it for return! Other reviews commenting on the flimsy, ill-fitting nature of the inside tray were true for our safe as well.

The lock is totally useless – I can very easily pry the box open when locked – and the tray is too much trouble to pull in and out to use. I have left it in, however, because I am storing lots of small items and want the extra shelf space.

Overall, I find the safe to be exactly what I expected when I ordered it and believe it will meet my needs for secure storage.

This safe is secure and makes me confident that my valuables will be safe. The safe weighs 99 pounds, a sure detterence to any thief and I had it bolted in the floor for extra caution! I like the shelving on the door and the shelf inside.

The double locking feature is great as well so u know everything is safe! Their is an additional drawer in the safe that comes with itw own key. It’s great to keep small things in there but it’s pretty flimsy.

Don’t count on that drawer to protect your valuables. So long as the safe is locked that drawer is secure. I would def recommend this safe to anyone looking for security from theft for their valuables.

The product description was a little unclear about how the safe, the manual and key lock all worked together but it ended up being positive. The safe is bigger than I expected, the dimensions are correct, its a big metal box.

The key does not open and close the safe, it activates/de-activates the combination dial. If you turn the key setting to ‘lock’ the combination dial will not work. It is a level of security on top of the combination.

Don’t worry though, if you want to keep the safe unlocked, but have the door closed just leave the combination on the last number after opening and the handle will work freely. My only complaint is that the handle is plastic and not very sturdy feeling.

I would have preferred metal.

My primary problem is the fragility of this “safe” in conjunction with the thin packaging and the unit’s weight. It’s pretty heavy for what it is, and I admittedly made a fatal error: I did not immediately and closely inspect it on arrival, beyond a cursory check from the top because the box was pristine.

When I took it out to use it (I bought this in December of 2017, so there’s no point in putting in a claim), the top fell off; the locking mechanism was bent out of true, and the hinges- two flimsy plastic caps with springs- were sprung and deformed beyond reassembly.

The interior tray was cracked, and the body of the safe was split at the right rear corner. I would never expect this to survive a fire- during which structures often collapse- without similar failures.

A thief with a hammer could also open this in seconds, so it doesn’t provide any significant security beyond its elephantine weight.

Great product. I trust the fire/flood specifications. Neutral color is fine with me. Easy unlatching and unlocking. Instructions say to open the heavy lid fully, to activate the hydraulic closer and prevent smashed fingers etc.

Dimensions perfect for legal-size documents (plus a bit – ~11¾”x14¾” – for passports etc. ) , and the recess in underside of the lid gives increased capacity. I needed it all. Overdue purchase! [Now I need to do more shredding though.

The safe opens and closes easily with the two copies of the provided key. Only holds about the equivalent of a ream of paper in interior space, perhaps a little more. I was able to fit only a few file folders’ worth of documents, but it’s adequate for my needs.

Box was torn during shipping, but the safe only had a small scratch.

I purchased this safe from a Lowe’s near my home. I went to finally go secure my items inside and quickly found out that my safe would not close. I inserted the key and the lock turned, but it will not actually lock the safe when closed.

I trouble shooted the issue, by calling support. I was told to bear weight on the safe which I did. Still did not work, and I’m pretty solid in weight. I asked the support tech if I could send this one back to sentry and be sent a new safe that actually works.

My request was denied because I did not have a receipt. I trusted Sentry, hence the reason I did not keep my receipt. I was far too trusting in the Sentry brand, however. The customer support tech stated that nothing could be done.

I just have to accept the loss of my money and time. Be aware when purchasing this item. Save your receipts. I will leave reviews on other sites just to keep potential buyers safe. Thank you.

I like this safe because it seems very protective and strong. I bought it to protect a unopened and uncommon over 10 year old Korean drama DVD(s) I own in the event of a fire I hope never happens. I put the DVD in a ziplock plastic bag, wrapped in in shrink wrap and will put it in Tupperware because the manual says that the case has a insulation which has a high moisture content.

I haven’t detected any moisture on the plastic it is in and it has been in there for a day now. I believe it says this because of in the event of a fire, I believe the moisture may escape insulation and get inside the case, or it means that inside moisture from the environment gets trapped.

Either way I will test it periodically to ensure no moisture is collecting on the plastic. Finally I like how if something moderately heavy for instance falls on the safe the dvd will be protected from physical damage.

I also put some important papers inside of it, but before placed them a ziplock plastic bag also. Even though the safe has a lock and key, I didn’t get it to lock it up and am not rating the strength of the lock.

The dvd I put in the case is not worth a lot of money value wise (maybe 100 bucks) but is basically irreplaceable if damaged.

This chest safe is almost perfect. It’s well made and heavy duty but not so much to the point of it being too heavy to move around. It’s the perfect size to store all my family’s vital records in. I do not; however, suggest it for storing anything that you will need to access on a regular basis.

The key is quite flimsy and bent the third time that I used it to open the safe. I would definitely be interested in purchasing an upgraded combination & Key chest safe like this one, though. I’ve always had an incredible experience with my other (I have 3 other Sentry Safes) Sentry products.

Came fairly quick. I read several review that said it came filthy, and I agree. Mine came with white deodorant like substance on the inside. Honestly, I just got a anti-bacterial wipe and cleaned it out.

Now, it’s good as new. That was unprofessional but all in all not that big of a deal in the long run. It took me all of 4 minutes to clean out. I feel like for a fire proof safe, $25 is a good deal, even if I had to wipe it out.

It seems like a sturdy safe and I am pleased with the size. I am considering setting it inside a campfire to test it out. I don’t want to ruin it but at the same time, I don’t want to put valuables in a safe I haven’t tested out for myself.

This is exactly what I was looking for. What I wanted this for, was to keep important papers, money, etc. I live in Florida, and I need something I felt would keep these items safe. They do not recommend storing a weapon, or medication in this safe, and I agree.

I use to be a security officer, and it could be easily carried off. Further, it doesn’t look like too much air can get into this unit, so it might not be good for all medication. If you want to keep like a temporally first aid kit, say you might want to go to a shelter, I think that would be alright.

I would recommend, as I am going to do, making duplicate keys. It comes with two, but I have lost my keys before, and had my purse stolen once, and this safe looks pretty secure to me. I will fit well in a dresser drawer, but may be too big for SOME desk drawers.

Seems like a solid safe; won’t know for sure how well it “performs” unless my house burns down, knock on wood. However, I feel confident with placing my valuable documents and small things in it. I give it four stars, the only reason I leave one off is because this does not fit a full 8.

5×11 sheet without folding or bending it, so your documents can’t be something like a nice certificate. However, the next larger safe they offer that can accommodate that would be the file box I believe, but that’s not for your little trinkets as well, so.

The safe was great for its size for home use. It is a bit expensive but for the features and size it seems equivalent to other manufacturer products. It came with two adjustable felt covered shelves.

The skeleton keys are necessary if the battery operated keypad failed for any reason, which is great. But also a security risk if you happen to keep them any were near the safe where they could be found.

The keypad is plastic device that takes AA batteries. Nice that there is factory key that can be used if you forget your custom key configuration. Again, keep that with the skeleton keys, not in location accessible near safe.

I still bought water/fireproof sleeves for our documents just in case as well as documents put on to shelf not close to base. There are two holes on the back which do not seem to be blocked. For mounting I assume to back wall.

Plus the two holes for bolting to floor. So just in case got sleeves as extra layer protection for the docs. The thinness of the base where the bolt holes are of concern to me. Meaning, I could rock the safe a little as the thinness flexes a little after bolted down through the.

But, if someone plans to try to take the safe it will cause them some effort. Enough to make noticeable noise if you are home. Also those holes even with the little rubber disks provided still is a possible water breach.

Would be better to have a more pliable plug to use over the bolt heads. There were reports of people using circular saws to gain access into the safe. But then again any safe is likely be accessible given heavy duty saw The only complaints are the insufficient screws (plastic anchor) provided (we got more appropriate cement wedge anchor bolts).

The other minor complaint is the interior openings at base for bolts, leaves holes in the fabric. It would have of been nicer had another fabric covered plate to lay over bottom been provided to cover them up.

I really wanted to like this safe, perfect size and fits my needs. The issue was the mechanism stopped working after about 3 test opening/closings. Yes, it had brand new FRESH alkaline batteries installed and switched those out a few times with other brand new batteries.

no joy. It was as if the solenoid gave up. Dissapointing, you expect it to at least do it’s most basic functions and left me with no confidence it would work as intended when needed. The other issue is the smell from inside the safe, it was a heavy chemical smell that made my eyes tear up.

That can’t possibly be safe. Is this a bad batch of safes maybe? Are all safes from Sentry like this? If I could be assured that a newer version or production run has solved this issue I would probably purchase another.

I under stand the issue of opening the safe with a magnet has hopefully been solved but how about the opeeration of the mechanism and smell? I did read the ratings I saw online and take them with a grain of salt, it seems this time many were accurate.

Come on Sentry, impress me and fix the issues. My rating could easily be better if the product impoves. Your customers are speaking to you. For the record, Amazon is on their game with returns as always.

Read a lot of reviews and it made me real leery about the product, but so far everything is good. Came in good shape and everything seems to work. One bad point is the desiccant bags that come in the safe – throw them out IMMEDIATLY ! They smell like super-concentrated Lysol and it is overwhelming in a small space.

Had to spray Febreze and leave safe open for 3 or 4 days to remove some of the stink. Also vacuum out the inside because there is white powder inside that seems to be from the mounting holes exposed cement.

Also wish the skeleton keys were shorter so I could have one on a keyring, but not a big deal. Just hope it works for a long time. ( I had a Mesa safe that broke inside the locking mechanism. Even the key wouldn’t work.

Had to call a safe cracker (locksmith) to drill a hole in it to open it, and there were no repair parts available. Trashed it and cost as much as the safe to get my stuff out. ) Don’t want that to happen with this one.

My telephone conversation with the representative was great. He took the time to explain things, answer questions and take the order smoothly. Friendly and knowledgeable. I like the Honeywell much better than the Sentry I replaced it with.

This very heavy fireproof chest is also waterproof. I wasn’t really thinking about that when I made the purchase, but it sounds like a great benefit. If there was a fire, there would most likely also be water damage from putting out such a fire.

The only downside to this chest is that they instruct that it be opened once a week to be certain moisture is not trapped inside. I can see why since it was stored in a cold place before I finally opened the package, and I found a little bit of water inside from condensation.

I’d rather just store stuff away and forget about it until needed, but now I’ve left it where I’ll see it and remember to open it weekly.

Most people want their documents safe from fire, but don’t consider water damage from the fire department’s hosing down your house. We looked around for a good fire- and water-proof chest for a reasonable price and settled on this one.

It is roomy enough to store documents up to legal size without folding and it can hold valuables. If you’ve read other reviews by us, you know we normally like to report on the tools we buy from Canadian Tire, but this safe is a little expensive to go tossing in the fireplace and run a Mythbusters-style simulation.

And we really hope to not find out how good this thing in a house fire. However, the product has been passed by the usual underwriters and test labs and has favorable reviews on several websites we checked.

We did run a couple of basic tests. The lock is quite sturdy. We’ve dropped the chest in the backyard on a patio stone to make sure it won’t pop open if dropped. We also sprayed it with a garden hose for a few minutes and not a drop got inside the chest.

We never tested it by submerging it. We don’t recommend trying these sorts of tests yourself. Not because we’re professionals and you’re not, but the folks at Canadian Tire, while good about refunds, probably won’t take back the safe if you drop it or spray it.

The damage is hard to hide. The only problem we have with this fire chest is one shared by all security chests: it’s easy for thieves to grab and go with your valuables. With a lot of patience and some cobalt drill bits, you can bolt this sucker to some immoveable object in your house.

Other than similar safes in this category, this one does not have necessary certification for home contents insurance in Europe.

Really important that I have a safe and this one is perfect. Really well made, decent price and easy to use. If I needed another one, I would definitely buy one of these again.

We are liking the safe and the function of it is working well for us. I gave it one star off because the item came to us with a couple of dings. Which is a bummer since it’s not a cheap purchase. Also, it being a safe and all, it would be nice that it didn’t come to us damaged.

When my bank started charging an annual fee for a safety deposit box that is used mainly to keep papers protected from fire and water, I considered a home safe. Unlike the Tower of London I have no tiaras and crowns to protect from thieves.

This safe protects from fires of 1700 F and water submersion for a reasonable amount of time for the arrival of the fire department or plumber. I opted just for the battery operated keypad opener as Im not good at combination locks and key openers.

I have trouble opening combo locks especially if its a rush to get it opened. And keys for me are made to lose or misplace. Although Sentry models have various combinations in safe openers, just the keypad will work fine for me but keep some replacement batteries on hand.

The safe is sturdy and very heavy. Because it has glazed baked paint on its rounded floor modules it is easy to slide around on hardwood flooring. Carpeting may be a little more challenging to move it.

The model is a little large for what I need to store and an additional shelf would have been helpful beyond the one supplied. You can buy an additional shelf though. This model does not have a light but it really isnt needed for such a limited space.

The light also is a drain on the batteries that also serve the keypad lock. Safe is easy to code also. I congratulate myself on a money-saving purchase.

The safe is great. I got it at Home Depot so I didn’t have to worry about any dents as mentioned in a few previous reviews. It operates as described. It will serve the purpose needed. I thought I wanted a safe that could be bolted to the floor, but when I looked at an online owners manual before purchasing, I discovered that you loose flood resistance which was important to me.

The model I bought came with bolts anyway which I don’t plan to use. It’s 85 lbs, so not easy to walk off with. If I hadn’t looked at the owners manual first, I might have bought something different, so it could have been easier to find out that drilling eliminates flood resistance.

Also, it could have been clearer upfront that the fire insulation gives off moisture that needs to be vented monthly. I don’t want papers getting moldy, but I didn’t learn about this until after purchase, which is not a real problem.

I researched safes for hours and kept coming back to this one. I was most concerned about security but didn’t want to pay literally thousands of dollars for a UL-approved one. This one is quite spacious and also provides a measure of fire and water protection.

Several reviews indicated that the handle felt cheap and flimsy. I found it to be a bit flimsy but it does not require a lot of force to lock and unlock, so it should be no issue. Codes can be easily programmed if you follow the very simple instructions.

I also like the lighted keypad as well as the interior LED lights that can be programmed for different time durations. Finally, I like having a key that simply disables the keypad (does not actually open the safe).

Overall, I find this safe to be well worth the money and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a secure safe at a reasonable cost.

I bought this safe in October and took a couple of months before I actually set it up. My mistake. After putting my documents inside I found that the lock was misaligned. The hook that opens and closes when you turn the key keeps getting caught under the plastic edge, making it impossible to lock at times.

I saw that the safe came with instructions saying that if anything is defective to call the company instead of taking the safe back to the store. I called the 800 number. Waited 40 minutes to talk to someone.

I explained the situation and the woman I talked to said I need to return the safe to where I bought it. I asked why the instructions said to call the company. She said that is just for things like a missing key or missing combination.

Okay… well it took me so long to set this thing up (again, my fault) that I can no longer return it. I guess this is a lesson to me to always inspect things immediately after buying and don’t let them sit around.

As for the safe, I used a screwdriver and pair of pliers to bend the hook just enough that it doesn’t get caught anymore. I was worried I would damage it but the alternative was a safe that I can’t lock.

Lol. I will make it work. Lesson learned.

Damaged eight out of the box. Thankfully, I don’t know if the safe itself works or not because we haven’t experienced a disastrous event. With that, the safe looks like someone dropped it or tossed it around to prove it was strong.

The box it was packaged in showed no signs of damage. Called the manufacturer because there’s a huge label “don’t return to store” and after holding 40 minutes, was told to take back to Walmart. Sentry customer service gets 0 stars.

The safe would not be easy to carry if leaving in case of an emergency because it’s heavy and has no handles or area to grip easily pick up. You’d have to leave it behind and pray it holds up and the fire is put out quickly.

I wouldn’t store anything sentimental like photos. Overall very disappointed but not worth returning. I’ll keep it for certain documents like things I can get another copy of (taxes, bank statements).

Kinda sucks.

Safe arrived with latch in locked position but the cover open and resting on top of the latch. In shipping, the lid impacted the latch and bent it, so in the open position the latch catches in the slot and can not move to the locked position unless pried with a screwdriver.

Also the latch will not engage the lid lock bar since the gap in the latch is compressed and too tight to engage the lock bar, as a result of improper shipping packaging. I will try to fix this with use of pliers and bending the bracket back into shape, but will have to see.

Also, the top of the lid is covered with a sticky substance that will have to be cleaned off somehow. Otherwise this product should be fine. I have an older one that has been ok for many years.

The safe is just what I wanted: a simple and safe way to store a small number of important documents and protect them from fire and water damage. We have social security cards, passports, birth certs, marriage cert, and key pages from our trust document in there.

I saw an online review complaining about it not being safe from burglars. That’s not the point though: it’s meant for safety from fire and water. And for that, it appears to do the job well. I actually prefer something that doesn’t look like it’s containing valuables! 🙂 Overall, I’m very happy with the product so far.

Hopefully, we won’t have to use it. One other point: I didn’t realize until after I had purchased it that we get a free replacement if it’s damaged in a fire, if you have registered it. So, we promptly registered it.

I love the size for the documents I have. The fire/water protection seems adequate for my needs. I’m a little worried about the lock mechanism. The long lever to open the latch is misleading. The latch will open if the entire latch is lifted up but not if the end is lifted up by itself.

At first I thought the lock would not release. This would be perfect if the lock/ open mechanism worked easier.

This box had all of the things I was looking for, fireproof, waterproof, able to fit flat papers, and portable. Seems very sturdy and the lock works well. Pretty heavy which is what you need. Closes pretty tightly and holds well.

You get what you pay for. I needed a smaller fire rated safe for important papers and my pistol overflow. Easy to set up and operate, does what it is designed to do. I have no issues, it’s worth the money in my opinion.

This is a great starting safe for the homeowner. But if you have many items and paperwork to store, you will run out of room fast. But like I said a great starter for the first time homeowner and safe owner.

Great little safe with all the mechanics of a large safe. Good for keeping your documents safe and secure without worrying about a fire destroying your family papers.

Very disappointed when I near broke my back to get the safe to my home to find out the lock is frozen. The key won’t turn to open the door, and I got support on the phone to tell me it may need greasing.

Grease the lock and it still won’t turn. Worthless if you can’t initially get the door open with the key, you can’t put the battery in for the digital lock combo. So now I have 100lb safe that doesn’t work.

The support guy hasn’t returned my email yet asking for further assistance. I’m mad.

It’s a fantastic safe, I’ve had it for over a year now. It is starting to leak in random spots and the liquid coming out of the metal has a strong metallic smell, I don’t know if that’s safe. And around the safe are pieces of brown metallic smelling pieces of the dried liquid.

I might need customer service to help me with that. Other than that, I love the safe and wish they had a bigger one. I use this to store important documents and narcotics.

Locks seem sturdy, however handle is plastic. Safe is heavy. Plenty of room for documents and paperwork. We haven’t secured it yet so can’t comment on ease of installation. Hope to never have to test the fire and water safety features.

Price is right and would definitely recommend it for home use.

I did a LOT of research before I purchased this safe, and I don’t believe you will find a better quality safe without spending a good deal more money. The first thing I did when I got it home was remove the cover from the interior side of the door to look at the internals.

As advertised, it has an additional 10 gauge steel plate to help prevent drilling, and a spring loaded re-locker in case somebody tries to punch out the lock. There is indeed fireproofing deep inside the door, another carpeted piece which screws onto the interior side of the door to cover everything up, and a fire seal around the door jamb.

I believe the body of the safe is 13 gauge steel, with two layers of fire resistant material. While this safe is not impenetrable, it will certainly slow down an attacker. If you want a more secure safe for extremely high value items, you are simply going to have to spend more money, and probably look at something like a TL-15 or TL-30 rated safe.

However, those will be MUCH more money but have much thicker steel and concrete filled walls and could easily weigh 500-600 lbs or more. This safe is listed as fire resistant for 2 hours at 1830 degrees.

While it is not independently tested or certified by a place like Underwriter Laboratories, that is indeed a high rating. The lack of a UL fire rating in my opinion doesn’t necessarily mean that it wouldn’t pass their tests, but could simply mean that the manufacturer didn’t want to incur the additional cost of having the safe tested and certified in an effort to cut costs and meet a price point.

I have owned other safes with lesser ratings, and this has much more fire protective material in the door and body. The safe comes with two concrete anchor bolts which is probably sufficient, but it does have four anchor holes pre drilled into the floor of the safe with plastic plugs installed to cover them up.

I strongly recommend bolting this safe to the floor, preferably into concrete, and installing some fire proof putty or caulking to fireproof those four bolt points. The shelf, carpeting, finish, and manual combination lock seem to be of good quality and overall fit and finish is good.

All together, this safe seems to provide good quality and value at this price point. While it does not carry the RSC rating (Residential Security Container) or a third party fire test rating found in more expensive safes, I believe it would probably pass those tests but that they were not done in an effort to meet a price point.

While a determined attacker could certainly penetrate this safe, I doubt you will find anything more secure without spending a lot more money. This safe is an excellent value, and as long as you properly install this safe by securely bolting it down, and add some fireproof caulking or putty around the bolts, I expect that this safe should provide adequate protection for most people for fire or burglary.

For extremely high value items I would recommend something more secure with a TL-15 rating or higher, but for most families looking to store some cash, jewelry and a few precious items, this safe will fit the bill nicely.

With the purchase of a $29 BB&B membership, this safe came in at about $416. With shipping I paid a total of less than $450! You wont find a better price for this safe anywhere! The safe is a good value, sturdy, solid and strong.

I’m confident that any thief would have to work VERY hard to compromise it and most likely give up trying. Great fire rating also, being able to protect contents for 2 hours in 1800 degree heat. To compensate for the safe’s lack of water protection, I put all of my belongings into a smaller Bell and Howell personal safe which then easily fits into the interior of the Mesa.

This provides additional fire protection and water protection even if fully submerged for 80 hours. I’m confident that by combining the benefits of these two products my valuables will be safe and sound from burglary, fire and flooding.

The B&H safe is available at BB&B also. I read another review of the Mesa in which the new owner complained of a scraping, squeaking sound in the combination lock. Mine had the same issue. I simply removed the door’s rear panel (four screws) easily exposing the rectangular box containing the combination lock’s works.

There is a small hole near the top for lubrication. A squirt of WD-40 took all of the noise away. I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it highly.

I bought this safe for my house and it arrived the next day! I was delivered in perfect shape on a pallet and well wrapped. Open up the box and everything was perfect. It is a very heavy safe burglar and fire resistant to 1830 degrees for 2 hours.

I bought the manual combination lock and it worked perfectly. Would definitely by from Zoro and Mesa safes again!.

We like the safe. Wish it was a tad bigger but the next size up was more than we needed. Easy to program. Comes with a locking plastic drawer which can easily be broken into, but they would have to bust into the safe first.

Wish is just had a couple of shelves instead of the drawer. Would be extra security if the safe had locking pins on both sides of the door instead of just the left side. Don’t know how hard it would be for a burglar to bust off the digital keypad and then unlock the mechanism from the inside, or if that is even possible.

Would be nice if the lever was metal. The plastic lever seems flimsy for a safe. One review said their safe rusted. Hopefully this one won’t. The manual said their is moisture in the fireproof insulation, so that is a concern.

Will have to be sure to open the safe every couple of weeks like it recommends to help control the humidity inside, which seems like it will be kind of a nuisance. However, for the price of the safe and for the quality of Master locks I have had, it will hopefully last and it seems like a good value.

Time will tell. Much cheaper than First Alert safes which we also considered.

I am so happy with my decision to purchase a SentrySafe! It has high ratings for being fireproof and waterproof. The digital combination was easy to program. It’s great to be able to program a second code so an additional family member can have access in emergencies.

An interior light can be programmed for 30 or 60 seconds. Plenty of time to move documents in and out. This uses 4 AAA batteries for the digital combination and the interior light, which are accessible from the outside of the safe.

There is plenty of room for file folders, a separate key locking removable tray inside, and hooks on the inside of the door along with a pocket for passports and smaller flat items. This is a wonderful alternative to paying for a safety deposit box at a bank, along with the fact you can have access any time! I would definitely recommend this purchase.

The safe arrived timely and as expected. The product itself is clearly of the highest caliber and other than my own error is getting it set up, it is exactly what we needed and wanted. I managed to mismatch the AAA batteries and apparently a couple were dead.

so initially I couldn’t get the electronic lock to work. I called the Sentry help number and other than a bit of a wait (30 min), the technician was very helpful, kind and patient with me while I went to get some other batteries.

Once newer batteries were installed, the lock worked perfectly. My compliments to the technician as he went above and beyond answering a couple of questions re; protection offered from fire. We live 5-6 miles from the Bloomfield, CO wildfire that occurred on Dec.

30, and although the safe will not protect in an inferno of such proportions, it just makes sense to do what we can to protect our valuables. Thank you.

I compared this to another well known brand and all specs indicate that it will perform just as well; let’s just hope I never have the data to proove it actually did. What sold me on this one. the product I compared it to had 2 significant disadvantage, it had to be locked to seal and protect the documents inside and it was not sealed for water protection.

I purchased this more for the fire protection then security purposes so being able to close it securely without having the key on me was important to me. At first comparison I thought being waterproof was not that important for my purposes but after so more thought it occurred to me that with a fire is generally followed by some big hoses and a lot of water.

It would really stick to have my documents survive a fire just to be ruined by the water used to put the fire out.

It’s water proof. I tested it in a tub. Don’t know it’s heat resistance. Key lock is “OK” substantial. If one really wanted to break into it ya can. I use it as document storage inside our Tornado Shelter.

Haven’t tested it in a tornado or house fire. My hope is that I never do. It has enough interior space for documents needed if my house blows away. Deed, pink slips, will, burial instructions, ham radio (yes, I keep to battery hot 24/7), etc.

It’s everything as advertised. I do not understand the people confused about the lock. The key turns one way the locking knob logically turns the other way. Easy. It is solid easy to carry just the right size for our traveling documents.

Passports insurance papers extra cash laundromat quarters. Even a couple knives. I’m a knife guy. Will be adding a small flashlight. Perfect product.

First I enjoy WalMart customer service and WalMart, itself. Now the mesa safe mbf2620E, the safe electronic lock stops working and I have to take the electronic lock face off and push on the circuit board to get it to work – three different times.

I cannot input any numbers when this happens, it is just dead and battery is new tested, with Duracell 9 volt. Mesa safe doesn’t respond to emails sent to them and when you call you have to leave a message and they call you back within normally 30 minutes.

The bottom door hinge has a small offset bend on it and the door is offset. The weld of the door hinge was welded crooked so it kicks the door in toward the hinge on bottom and out on the hinge on top.

Lastly, I have a 5th hole drilled on back of safe and called Mesa safe, they were unaware of why it was there besides for manufacturing filling purposes. I assume it could be for pulling power into your safe.

The safe is heavy so I have to lift it myself which is the reason most would not exchange the safe due to waiting for another safe and hoping the next will be better quality or less troubles and no damage.

I like the safe very much but am on the limb as to what I should do by keeping it or returning it, at this time. I have not filled the safe yet because I don’t want to put valuable personal stuff in it and have to take the electronic lock face off every so often and tap on electronic board to get it to work, to open the safe.

I give it 3 stars because of it’s size but knock two off because quality control door offset, 5th drilled hole and electronic lock problems. The only reason I would not recommend this to a friend is because of the electronic lock is not a premium part included for the money/cost of the safe and will eventually leave me with a non operable lock and have to use the override key to open it consistently.

I wish Mesa safe would be easier to contact through email response and answer the phone immediately, instead of waiting for a call back. I get upset because when you pay for something expensive, it should have correctly centered hinges, responsive customer service and premium electronic locks.
