I used this shampoo years ago when it came in the white bottle with the grey label. Bought it after my recent salon visit for help toning down the yellow (stylist didn’t leave toner on long enough). Left it on for 2-3 mins- didn’t do a thing.
Then left it on 5 more mins- still nothing. Then left it on my dry hair for 12 mins– still absolutely no change. Yesterday I left it on dry hair for 20 mins and it brightened it, but did not tone it down at all.
Colour is still just as brassy. Very disappointed that the effectiveness of this line has gone downhill over the years. Would not recommend. Will try Joico next. (Can’t use Shimmer Lights because it makes me break out wherever it touches- but that stuff will tone the colour down in 30 seconds).
So Silver is also very drying, which most purple shampoos are, but this makes wet hair feel like tangled straw.
Love hate relationship with this shampoo. It works very well (im naturally super dark brown, now platinum silver blonde) but it is SO drying!! I recently got extensions and it dries then out so bad. If you do not have extensions then you will probably love this if you follow with a super hydrating deep conditioning mask.

I’ve had a great experience with John Freida Brunette range for many years and when my colour lightened to caramel thought I’d try the violet range to counteract yellow tones. Colour aside this shampoo is a completely different formula and rather than making my hair smooth the way the Brunette range did it makes it completely boof out and go out of control.
I can’t use the JF Frizz Ease range for exactly the same reason and have to conclude that their formulas are probably both quite similar, i. e: they contain a tonne of silicone. Other purple shampoos in more expensive ranges work really well for my hair.
If it works for your hair, fine though I recommend trying when on special. I won’t be rebuying them.
