Well they look great. We had to buy 4 bags plus add another bag to cover our fire pit. The size of the stones were good, because they were larger and covered the pit well. It was a 30″ wide fire pit.
Made from natural resources. Comes in a variety of Sizes, is Black in color, has porous surface. For use with fire bowls, fire pits, and fireplaces, either indoors or outdoors (liquid propane or natural gas).
This lava can withstand extreme temperatures. Requires very little maintenance.
The lava rock is indeed small. but it worked well for my vented gas fireplace! I mixed it in with the vermiculite (sp?) and all around the logs on the floor of the fireplace. It looks so much better than just the brick floor.
Much improved visuals. Starfire’s shipping was prompt and it was a good experience.
Everyone around town sells lava rock for fire pits. Unfortunately, none of them stock this size. I wanted to create a specific look and needed the XL rocks. I was a bit Leary of ordering online, but I am so glad that I did.
The arrived quickly and in nice boxes to help me carry to the pit. Once they were laid down, the pit looked instantly better! The rocks are big and bold. I got the exact look I was aiming for. Thanks!.
We decided to make our wood-burning fireplace into a gas one, so we ordered the correct H-burner, lava rock and fireglass (cobalt blue!) and it is beautiful! Easy to light, lovely to watch and I do not have to ‘make a fire’ every time.
As an aside, it actually provides warmth, as the materials do get warm and radiate heat. Our old fireplace literally pulled heat up and out. Thanks, StarfireDirect!.
Pleasant Hearth Formed by gas-rich eruptions, this Lava Rock Fuel stands out in any vented or vent-free log set application. Increase the ambient effect of your gas log set with pleasant hearth lava rocks each having their own unique shape and size.

Enjoy the beautiful jewel-like tones of Hiland Recycled Fire Glass. This collection of glass pebbles adds a modern look to any fire feature, indoors or outdoors. Choose from available colors to best coordinate with your outdoor decor.
This firepit glass (blue) works perfect as a replacement of the stock lava rack that came with my pit. Can tell the difference in heat output from glass compared to rock and it a nice blue that really makes the pit stand out now.
Had about 20 people over for an evening party and they all complimented how nice it looks. Nice shard cut size pieces too that are not like the big box stores that sell glass that are small shards for 10 bucks more for a 10lb.
I would not recommend the red glass. I was hoping that it would look like a real fire. It does not. It just makes the pit seem darker. I mixed in my light blue glass with the red and it looks better.
The red makes a nice back ground. It was not worth the cost. It is good quality so I have to say that. After trying the different colors, I would recommend that if you want to have a bright looking fire, then purchase the lighter colored glass that’s available.
Color-infused, crushed, recycled glass, polished, sifted, packaged and quality controlled to perfection. 1/2″-1″ thickness, unique color, chunkier sized pieces, and eco-friendly. For use with outdoor fire bowls, fire places and fire pits (liquid propane or natural gas), or as a decorative landscape.
This glass can withstand higher temperature compared to logs, lava rocks, stones, etc. Does not emit any smoke, ash, or soot. Requires very little maintenance.
Loving my purchase. Ordered 8 bags of fire glass and upon receipt I realized the color I chose didn’t quite match my backyard. I asked for an exchange and it was no fuss. We just enjoyed our first fire with it last nite.
The glass is absolutely spectacular and the service was top notch. Chris, you are amazing, thank you! And your advice to order an extra bag was spot on. Will be ordering more accessories!!!.
We ordered – we received confirmation and within the time you told us, we received our boxes or beautiful colored rocks for our fireplace. {I cannot rate the quality of the fire glass right now effectively because I havn’t used it long.
Right now they are lovely! Absolutely stunning. How long will that last? Only time will tell.
We just finished our patio and fire pit and used this lava rock to fill in our gas fire pit pan prior to adding fire glass. This helps save money, since the glass is much more expensive. So, essentially the lava rock was used as a filler.
However, it is worth noting that this lava rock looked great prior to adding fire glass. It looked so good in fact that we considered purchasing more and use this only and not adding the fire glass at all.
This lava rock is very light and a perfect size for filler. The color is more of a dark grey/light black (not a deep black), so just be aware of that. I’m happy with the size and weight. It is surprisingly light.
This solid steel fire ring is an ideal solution to keep your fire contained. Use it as an insert for a brick surround, or on its own. Its classic style will blend into any outdoor background. The large 33.
50″ diameter allows for plenty of firewood to get your party started. This heavy-duty fire ring will last you for years to come. Large wood capacity Durable solid Steel construction Black finish Use to construct a brick surround fire pit in your yard 33.
When I ordered this from Amazon, I wasn’t expecting it to be this heavy. It was easy to assemble and it’s perfect for my new fire pit. The only little issue, I have a few spots that are rusting. It looks like where the paint was chipped a tiny bit.
No big deal though. I’m going to pick up some black grill spray paint and just give it a coat. I’m really happy with it.
Natural volcanic lava rocks are excellent base layers and cost-effective fillers for gas fire pits and fireplaces. Fire glass, ceramic balls and other decorative fire pit products can be added on top of the fire rock for effect.
If you like the look of these angular lava rocks alone, they’re an affordable way to fill a fireplace. Lava rock is available in two sizes and colors.
Bought these to put in the electric grill. I discovered years ago that the drippings from the meat on the grill falls on the lava rock and provides an authentic “smoked” tastes to meats cooked on an electric grill.
Lava Rocks will instantly give any old fireplace an exotic, yet classy look. Naturally occurring, these Lava Rocks are formed as volcanic magma rises to the surface, cools and releases gases which gives these rocks their coarse surface.
Because they are volcanic, they can withstand extreme temperatures without sustaining any damage or crumbling. Lava Rocks may be used exclusively in a fireplace or fire pit, or may be used as a base or filler for other ornaments such as fire glass or Lite Stones.
Whichever way they are used, the resulting effect is truly fascinating. The best part is that they require very little maintenance. Available in various sizes.
These decorative lava rocks are safe to place near or in the flames created by your Eco-Feu fireplace. They add color and texture to your project. Each box covers approximately 1 square foot. Decorative basalt stoned to place around your ethanol or gas firepelace.
When my usual supplier ran out of lava rock, I went on the hunt for lava rocks that would be suitable for aquarium use. I decided to test them out. I’m hoping the best, those are safe for my animals.
I also took advantage of their offer. Overall, a pleasant experience.
Should I just remark that it’s the most amazing lava rocks I’ve ever seen? It was a CHARM to work with. This is a fantastic product. Everyone deserves a lava rock encounter as great as mine, thus I would recommend it to a buddy, neighbor, coworker, or even an arch nemesis.

Product is as expected in shape/size. I used the online calculator for the amount I would need, and I’m quite a bit short. So maybe consider over-estimating. I ordered three bags of the same product, but two of my bags were gray and the third was black–but they still look really nice when mixed together.
Love the look and love how the heat is dispersed. Great product. If I could make a suggestion, it would be helpful to list how many square feet a 10 lb. , 20 lb. bag will cover so customers can buy the proper amount.
I ended up having to purchase a lot more to fill my fire pit. Just a suggestion.
Color and finish were as advertised. Bit more variation in size than I expected, but it turns out that’s a plus when fitting them together in a way that can cover your burner. One tip: order more than you think you need.
Due to my poor estimation, it took me three tries to get the quantity I actually needed.
Black Lava Pebbles are uniquely formed when hot lava emitted from an active volcano meets the ocean and hardens upon contact. The pebbles are gathered from the lava fields in Indonesia and tumbled to create a consistent shape and size.
Lava pebbles can be used in natural gas or propane fire applications and unlike other lava rock or cinder rock on the market, lava pebbles will not crumble or break down in size. Age Group: adult.
Slightly darker than pictured but certainly not “black”. These have a matte, rounded finish and look great in our outdoor firepit. As others have said, it’s tough to determined the correct quantity. We guesstimated 7 bags for our 12×48 inch firepit, which we only needed to be ~2 inches deep with rocks.
We got lucky. 7 bags was the perfect amount. We’ve had these rocks nearly 9 months now. As others have said, a few rocks have turned brown/black (giving a burnt look) but in our experience this has been caused by leaves, small sticks, and other natural materials that fall into the firepit and burn upon hitting the flames, leaving their mark on the rocks.
Given it’s an outdoor firepit, I’m not sure anything can be done about this and it doesn’t really bother us. We are now considering adding these rocks (in a larger size) to an indoor gas fireplace.

This glass is beautiful. We have a 16ft flag pole and wanted to put something at the bottom that would stand out. We used this glass and it is fantastic. It sparkles in the sun and glistens at night.
Very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone that would use it in this manner.

Mixed with blue stones that came with the table as they weren’t enough, the amber made a nice contrast! Would recommend these stones nice value for the price!
Fire glass diamonds are diamond-shaped fireplace glass stones that reflect the light in fascinating ways. The pyramid shape brings an additional air of sophistication and elegance to a fire pit.
The fire glass looks beautiful, however there seems to be some quality issues where the individual pieces shatter which leaves you on a constant hunt to remove them.

Made with incredibly durable glass-reinforced concrete that’s weather-resistant for long-lasting use, this fire table features a design that looks just like a half of a rock for a natural-inspired look.

Purchased this firepit for use on colder days in New England. Received the firepit and was impressed with the quality of the packing and of the unit itself. Good components and well constructed. Installation was straight forward and I only needed a $2 fitting to complete the install.
The unit works great but does not produce a lot of heat at 42000 BTUs. As such, it’s more aesthetic than functional. Also, when it heats up a hairline crack appears on the firepit surface when the unit expands from the heat, and disappears when the unit cools down.
Checked the owners manual and it says that this issue is to be expected and not covered under warranty. Interesting that the unit ships with a repair kit to address these types of issues. I like the unit, but wish it produced more heat.

The fire pit looks great and exactly as pictured but the flame is very small. It is not going to generate enough heat to keep you warm even in mild temperatures unless you are right up against the edge of the table – keep in mind that the table is 36” in diameter, but the gas flame itself is only 15” in diameter.
The fronts of our chairs are set 24” from edge of table and you do not feel any warmth. The pros of a propane based fire pit are that there won’t be irritating smoke or ashes flying around, however it is a trade off… as this does not generate the same amount of heat nor are the flames visually the same.
If you need a firepit to last a year or so, the Real Flame will do the trick. Beyond that the product basically disintegrates before your eyes. We live in a relatively stable climate and covered the pit at all times when it wasn’t in use, protecting it from the elements.
Fast forward 2 years, it’s not even usable and must be trashed. AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS.

A rock pit for an inside fire pit should be at least 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep.
Choose a location for your fire pit
When choosing a location for your pit of rock, make sure that it is far away from any flammable materials such as trees, houses, or dried leaves. It is also important to make sure that the pit is in an open area so that the smoke from the fire can dissipate quickly.
Clear the area around your fire pit
You will want to clear an area around your pit of rock for your inside fire pit. You will need to remove any flammable materials, such as leaves or sticks. You will also want to clear a space for your pit of rock that is at least 10 feet in diameter.
Dig a hole for your fire pit
You will need to excavate a hole that is deep enough to contain the desired fire pit. The hole should be wide enough to allow easy access to the pit, as well as provide plenty of room for air to circulate.
If you are using rocks to line the pit, you will need to allow for additional space to accommodate their thickness. Once you have excavated the hole, you can begin to build your fire pit.
Line your fire pit with rocks
If you are looking to line your fire pit with rocks, you will need to find rocks that are specifically designed for fire pits. These rocks are usually made of lava rock or another type of heat-resistant material.
Once you have your rocks, you will need to clean them before placing them in your fire pit. To clean your rocks, simply rinse them off with water and then let them air dry. Once your rocks are clean and dry, you can then begin to line your fire pit with them.
Fill your fire pit with rocks
You will need to fill your fire pit with rocks that are safe to use inside. Some good options for rocks include: fire-resistant bricks, lava rocks, or ceramic logs. You will want to make sure that the rocks you choose are big enough to not fall through the grates of your fire pit.
Build a fire in your fire pit
Building a fire pit in your backyard is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and entertain guests. There are a few things to consider when building a fire pit, such as choosing the right location, deciding on the size and shape of the pit, and selecting the type of material to build it with.
The first step is to choose the location for your fire pit. It’s important to pick a spot that is at least 10 feet away from any structures or trees. You’ll also want to make sure the area is level and has good drainage.
Once you’ve selected the perfect location, it’s time to start planning the size and shape of your fire pit. A good rule of thumb is to make the pit about 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep. As for the shape, you can choose from a traditional circular pit or go for something more unique like an oval or square.
The last thing to consider is what type of material you want to build your fire pit with. Some popular choices include stone, brick, and concrete. You’ll also need to decide whether you want a permanent or portable pit.
Enjoy your fire pit
This is not a good idea. A pit of rock can get very hot and cause a fire.
Conclusion
The best rock for inside a fire pit is one that is heat resistant and not too porous. Some good choices include granite, quartz, or fire-rated bricks. The rock should be placed on a layer of sand or gravel to help promote drainage and prevent the fire pit from getting too hot.
