So anybody dealing with suction-side pool vacuums know that they can be slightly annoying and need alot of baby sitting to keep them on task. My hayward nav is 10 years old, and i’ve never done anything to it, after researching replacing it with a newer unit i was blown away by the cost of some of these robots, suction side as well as the bag units that bypass your pools filter, while the latter of the two would have been my choice, the cost was staggering, given the expense of keeping my in ground pool clean and running properly, i always do everything myself, opening & closing, etc.
After reading up on the issues i was seeing with my Navigator, it sounded like i needed some parts replaced, rather then buying i brand new unit. First off the side flaps were shot and rather then adding another layer of duct tape, i got a new pair, then after testing the turbine, i got a new A- frame kit, the vacuum definitely moved faster, but its biggest issue of getting stuck every time it reaching the walls remained, that is until i replaced the gearbox, now it’s like brand new again.
It turns on a dime, and requires no baby sitting to clean my pool, i would highly recommend this part, and given the price of the other items mentioned, replace them all, you’ll be shocked how well if performs again.
My Hayward vacuum was going in circles. I checked out the problem from many comments posted and bought this new gear box. After installing it I still had the problem so I had my local pool store check out my installation of the gear box.
Everything was OK there, but they did say that my continued problems might be that my pods were worn out also. So I ordered new pods off eBay as well. Now all is well and I have a clean pool again just in time for Phoenix dust storms and Monsoon rains in summer.
This is, or appears to be, the OEM part. As such it properly fits and corrected the ‘steering’ problem my Hayward had – going only one way in circles. It’s an easy repair and requires only the removal of a few screws.

I’m a little saddened by this, but I have only had this replacement bag on my pool cleaner for about 6 weeks, and it has already developed a hole in the bag, apparently from a stick/tree branch being sucked up.
I wish the bag was more durable. I like the new closure that doesn’t use velcro much better than the bag that came with my pool cleaner, which used velcro. This new bag is a little more difficult to clean with the hose though, as it has an extra little area for collecting debris, and I have to turn the bag inside out to spray that clean.
As far as the “yes/no” questions go. do I recommend it? I guess. what else are you going to use? Is it a good value. ? I’m indifferent. I’d say no, but all pool equipment is expensive, so I guess yes.
Is it of good quality. ? Well, other than the bag getting punctured by a stick, yeah, I guess so.
This one replaces one that we had for 10 years. So far It is excellent and comes pre-assembled with all the accessories. All you have to do is hook it up. You might have to cut the feeding hose to fit your pool size but I didn’t.
It was just about 4 feet too long so I decided not to. I might have to adjust the jet to the 12 o’clock position for it to climb the walls and the steps but that’s it. Also, it was delivered a lot earlier than previously estimated.

The Oase Pondovac 5 is designed to include many of the features expected with thier vacuums, but most have been upgraded. The biggest upgrade is the ability to pump the water away to waste, it overcomes one of the greatest drawbacks of other pond vacuums.
This is that the waste water escapes under gravity and as such can not go up hill or very far away. Inside the water chamber is a silt pump which will pump the dirty water through a 33 foot discharge hose and up to 6 1/2 feet above the pond vacuum, although the higher you lift the slower the flow rate and suction will be.
The silt pump will only handle small particles and so inside the water chamber is a prefilter bag which will catch large particles such as pebbles or leaves, and if your pond is full of large waste you may need to net these out first.
Oase has created the c-connecton locking system that securely connects the discharge hose to the vacuum.
I used the Oase Pondovac 4 to clean my koi pond this spring and didn’t cleaned it last year. My pond is a 900 gallon with water fall, aeriator and large pump. I placed an aluminum walk across the pond to reach all places easily, I basically emptied the pond while adding well water back into it at the same time.
I used a remote electrical switch so I didn’t have to walk to the vac to shut down periodically. I placed the removed water and sludge, etc into a 30 foot discharge line to keep it off the fresh bluegrass sod around the pond.
I am happy to say everything from start to finish went as smoothly as hoped for. I was a little surprised since this is the first pond vac I have ever used! I never shut off the pump or aeriator. I am an 80 year retired engineer and really like the German technology in this unit, even though it was made in China.
I would be happy to answer any questions about my use of the Oase Pondovac 4. No issues with instructions or any thing else, except registration of the product. Had to call to find out where the s/n was and this too was handled well by a rep.
Made life easier around here and will clean fairly ofter. Also used bacteria and UV light to help water stay clean. As well as my secret ingrediant I add.
Vacuum works well but can be finicky as far as getting everything setup just right so it works at maximum capacity. It was sucking up rocks and it was partially clogging the hose. I built a screen for the tube end and it fixed the problem.
Support has been 5 stars. I had some problem with the aluminum hoses and these guys responded to my emails within hours/one day and went above and beyond to make sure that my situation was taken care of.

I have an 18×48 Coleman Deluxe Series and it comes with no skimmer not to mention a very weak pump. The pool’s top metal frame is oval shaped and it won’t sit as secure as you would wish. We attached it to the exiting port cause the two other ports arent made for attaching anything.
We replaced the Coleman pump with a Harris 3/4 cartridge pump system. Now because of the stronger pump system it made the skimmer come off from the frame and take in air cause as I mentioned the frame is not traditional round but, oval shape and it doesn’t clamp on firmly on frame.
To remedy this we double zipped tied skimmer to pool leg and it stopped skimmer from slipping off frame. Not bad for an inexpensive skimmer. Need a good pool pump system to get it to work as it should.

From other reviews I expected the leaf canister to work, but it has exceeded my expectations. I have several trees and plants in my yard, and on breezy days I’ll get a load of debris in my pool. The skimmer would clog its basket in no time and then the leaves would collect on the pool bottom.
Vacuuming would pick up the leafs, thus clogging the basket at the pump. With the leaf basket mounted in the first hose joint above the vacuum head on my pole mounted vacuum head, the clogging issue has been completely resolved.
On my automated suction cleaner (Zodiac) the leaf basked has to be mounted close to the pool skimmer to work properly. The weight of the leaf basket close to the vacuum head will inhibit its ability to climb the walls.
If you didn’t understand how this weight would affect the automated cleaner you’d be unnecessarily disappointed in its performance through no fault of the product.
We have an in-ground “open” style pool; meaning without a screened enclosure. Although we live in Florida with few deciduous trees in the neighborhood, we still manage to get our share of leaves and fronds in the pool which are then vacuumed up and captured by the pool pump strainer.
The pool pump strainer is smallish in size so the strainer fills quickly and the water flow becomes restricted. We recently purchased the Hayward Leaf Canister which is installed “in-line” on the vacuum hose and “problem solved”! The basket on the leaf canister is of sufficient size to hold a fair amount of debris and easy to open and empty.
The leaves never make it to the pump strainer so everything runs more smoothly.

I have never seen my pool so clean since I purchased my Zodiac Barracuda. The dust storms that hit our place in December 2019 and January 2020 was impossible for me to clean by vacuuming as I have done in the past.
The Barracuda had cleaned up 80% of the heavy dust from the floor and walls of the pool in the first hour of opperation, by which time I had to clean the Filter as it had begun to loose pressure. within another few days the pool was crystal again, and again I had to clean the Filter due to pressure loss.
I no longer vacuum the floor of the pool, I let the Barracuda do this work for about three hours of the day. I just skim the leaves from the top of the pool and the pool has never been this clean, the Zodiac Barracuda is the best thing I have purchased in a very long time.
I was very pleased to find this product, available at short notice, and happily on special. I have had a Barracuda cleaner for many years and after trialling many other brands, more expensive and supposedly better at doing the tasks, I was happy to find a replacement for my 14 year old unit.
I reckon I got my money’s worth. The Barracuda simply is the only cleaner that can handle the amount of leaf litter and “skinny” leaf stems that we get in our pool from our overhanging Poinciana tree.
I have only had it for a short while but it has performed well so far. With a large pool (approx 90000 Kl), I wondered whether it would cover all of the pool including the sides and it does. It works well with the pump on low or medium pressure and does not get stuck in the corners.
I don’t get leaves in the pool so cannot say how it performs with those. Easy to set up and use. However, the hose segments supplied are only 10 meters in length so remember to buy additional hoses for a large pool.
