I bought the product to replace an exact pump that had gotten real loud and was not working well. The new one was quiet and has good vacuum. It is the only kind of pump I have owned for my pool. Easy replacement and doing it my self and purchacing pump on ebay probably saved me $300 to 400 dollars.
replace my Polaris pump that I have had in service for 11 years with this Hayward pump. It squealed so loud it would wake you up during sleep. Setting the units side by side, you can see how cheaply made the Hayward pump is made.

Bought this based on the reviews and the reviews did not disappoint. Working flawlessly. You do need to program the unit and I run it for 1. 5 hours at 3450 rpms to get the most out of my Polaris. Then I’m running the pump at 450 rpms most of the day to make sure I’m getting 2 turnovers of water for the day.
(Less over winter or more depending on how much the kids use it). Already noticed a decrease in my elect bill so I figure it should pay for itself in about a year and a half. I hope it lasts at least 10 years to make me feel like I got good value out of it.
Time will tell. Do yourself a favor and check out a few videos on utube to learn how to program this pump before you install it so you’re not wasting your time trying to figure it all out.

My previous 3/4 HP Pentair pool pump lasted over 30 years, so it was definitely time for that one to be replaced. I took my time to re-configure the PVC pipes to accommodate a new DE filter, but once that was done and cured for 24 hours, I carefully tightened the 2 Union connections for water in and out and was done.
Connecting to my existing 115V circuit took about 10 minutes. Programming the settings took a few tries, but is simple once you get used to it. I really like that I can see the power usage for each setting, helps me optimize the RPM’s to save energy.
I run the pump for 18 hours a day on 3 different speeds and my daily cost is around 70 cents. (power here is 12 cents/KW) The pump runs at 1750 RPM during the day and from 20 feet away I can barely hear the motor.
Pump has been installed for over a month and the on-board clock is still accurate to the minute. And not a single leak. Very happy with this pump.

Quiet by design. California Title 20 compliant. Fully programmable, self-contained 24-hour time clock with up to 8 custom speed and timer functions. No additional controller or time clock needed.
Extremely pleased with this pump. Our install is not ideal with the pump at the top of the waterfall height instead of at the bottom of the pool height. This pump does better at priming and maintaining the flow of any pump that we’ve had so far, especially once we figured out what speed setting worked best.
In addition, it has been very tolerant of running dry, which is important for us with our setup. Well worth the money, I’m glad we purchased.
Third one. The first one, an upgrade from single speed, got hit by lightning, so I had to buy another and upgrade the electrics for surge. The second one just failed after 6 years. It started making noise lsat fall and then the motor froze up.
Doesn’t pay to fix the motors if you can find someone to do it. They’re half the cost of the pump. Pump Internals were in good shape. This one is very quiet so far. Lets see how long it lasts. For the money there aren’t many options and this does save energy and pay for itself over its life.
I have lots of spare parts now, but none of the ones that go bad. The newer one isn’t as powerful.
Seller was great transaction was great! As far as the Hayward pump, the only issue found so far was there is alot of cavitation with this pump. I watched some YouTube videos and others have complained about this aswell.
Hayward needs to address this problem, it’s something in the design. Also, not as powerful as you would expect for almost 3hp. The Pentair might just be a better pump at a true 3hp and worth the additional cost of the install for the warranty.
The Intex Sand Filter Pump with Gfci is perfect for above ground pools and features a powerful 3/4 horsepower motor to accommodate pools up to 12,800 gallons! Also features a convenient 24 hour automatic timer, safety shut-off, easy cleaning skimmer basket and a 25 foot power cord with a 120v Gfci plug. Requires 77lbs of sand (not included).
OptiFlo pumps for above ground pools feature a revolutionary design that delivers dependable high flow performance. The OptiFlo pump features a 48 frame-thru bolt motor, easy access to change the discharge port position, service the impeller, and an innovative Cam and Ramp lid.
The OptiFlo pump is available with 3 ft. cord, with a twist lock or standard plug.
The Sta-Rite SuperMax VS variable speed pumps are ideal for standard pools requiring up to 1. 5 HP. This pump could slash energy costs by up to 80%, compared to conventional pool pumps. No other company can match our proven, in-field performance and reliability, so you can count on years of long, dependable service.
Should have thought better regarding the multi-stage (variable speed) motor connected to my pool. Having “jet heads” in my pool bottom that assist in constant water movement is a problem. The “jet head” units are mechanical and require the high pressure setting to activate and lift up from the bottom of the pool.
No savings as I must use max settings to get the heads to open up. Plus this motor is “not” as quiet as the previous single stage motor. In theory it probably is a good purchase for other customers, but not in my case.
According to the extremely professional and well-trained Pool Company that handles my swimming pool, also known as my wife, best pool pump has completely changed the way that the pools managed and the ability to ramp down the speed that the pump runs which allows for a quieter backyard and the ability to keep the pool at constant flow.
Additionally the difference between the cost of the variable speed pool pump versus a constant high speed pump was insignificant compared to the difference in the electric bill you can barely even tell that we are running a pool pump any longer according to our electric bill.
My Hayward programmable VS pool pump broke within 2 years of installation, and I was looking for an alternative. Well, I found it in the Pendar programmable VS Supermax. With a little PVC modifications, the system was installed by me in a few hours.
This system is still going strong and I will not ever be going back to the competition.
There are three types of pool pumps for inground pools:
1. The first type is the centrifugal pump. This type of pump uses a rotating impeller to draw water from the pool and then push it through the filter and back into the pool.
2. The second type is the diaphragm pump. This type of pump uses a rubber diaphragm to draw water from the pool and then push it through the filter and back into the pool.
3. The third type is the piston pump. This type of pump uses a piston to draw water from the pool and then push it through the filter and back into the pool.
How pool pumps work
Pool pumps are devices that are used to circulate water in a pool. The water is pumped from the pool and then returned back to the pool. The pump is usually located outside of the pool and is connected to the pool through a hose.
The pump is turned on and off by a switch that is located on the pump. The pump will circulate the water in the pool and will also help to filter the water.
The benefits of using a pool pump
There are many benefits to using a pump for an inground pool. Pumps help circulate the water in the pool, which helps to keep the water clean and clear. Pumps also help to circulate the chemicals in the pool, which helps to keep the water balanced and safe for swimming.
Pumps can also help to aerate the water in the pool, which helps to keep the water fresh and oxygenated.
The different features of pool pumps
There are many different types of pool pumps for inground pools, each with their own unique features. Some of the most common features include:
– A strainer basket that catches debris before it can enter the pump
– A large motor that is powerful enough to move water through the pool filter and other equipment
– A seal that helps to prevent water from leaking out of the pump
– A timer that allows the pump to run for a set amount of time each day
– A thermostat that helps to keep the water at a consistent temperature
– A check valve that prevents water from flowing back into the pool when the pump is turned off
How to choose the right pool pump for your pool
The first step is to determine the volume of water in your pool. To do this, multiply the length by the width by the average depth. Once you have the volume, multiply it by 7. 5 to find the gallons of water in your pool.
The next step is to select the pump that is best suited for your pool. The three most common types of inground pool pumps are single speed, two speed, and variable speed. Single speed pumps are the most economical and are typically used for small to medium sized pools.
Two speed pumps are more energy efficient and are typically used for medium to large sized pools. Variable speed pumps are the most energy efficient and can be used for all size pools. The final step is to select the pump that best meets your needs.
How to install a pool pump
Installing a pool pump is not difficult, but there are a few things you need to know before you start.
First, you need to know what size pump you need. The size of the pump will be determined by the size of your pool. The larger the pool, the larger the pump you will need.
Second, you need to know where you want to install the pump. Most pumps are installed near the pool, but you can also install them near the house or in the garage.
Third, you need to know how to connect the pump to the pool. This can be done with a hose or with a pump system.
Fourth, you need to know how to operate the pump. Most pumps have an On/Off switch, but some have a timer.
Fifth, you need to know how to winterize the pump. This is important if you live in an area where the winters are cold.
Installing a pool pump is not difficult, but there are a few things you need to know before you start. Follow these steps and you will be able to install your pool pump correctly.
How to maintain your pool pump
If you have an inground pool, you need to maintain your pump to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Here are a few tips on how to do that:
-Clean the pump regularly. Debris can build up over time and cause the pump to work less efficiently.
-Make sure the pump is properly lubricated. This will help it run smoother and last longer.
-Check the O-rings and gaskets regularly to ensure they are in good condition. These can wear out over time and cause leaks.
-If you notice any leaks, repair them as soon as possible.
-Keep the pump area clean and free of debris.
Following these tips will help you extend the life of your pool pump and keep it running smoothly.
Troubleshooting tips for pool pumps
If your inground pool pump is not working properly, there are a few troubleshooting tips you can try:
-First, check to see if the pump is receiving power. If the pump is not plugged in or the circuit breaker has tripped, the pump will not work.
-Next, check the strainer basket to see if it is full of debris. If the basket is full, it can restrict water flow and cause the pump to overheat.
-If the pump is still not working properly, you may need to check the impeller to see if it is clogged or damaged. An impeller that is clogged with debris will not be able to move water properly.
-Finally, if the pump is still not working, you may need to contact a pool technician for further assistance.
Conclusion
The conclusion of pool pumps for inground pools is that they are a great way to maintain your pool and keep it clean. They are easy to install and use, and they are very effective at circulating the water and keeping the pool clean.
