20 Best Nanoleaf Canvas Designs 9 Panels (2023 Updated)

These are so awesome and really make the room. My son wanted some ‘gamer lighting’ in his room. Though these were pricey, they weee the perfect compromise and a REALLY make the room look amazing. My son likes to use them in sounds activated mode and then uses the ambient lighting function to sleep and ‘wake up’ very cool technology.

The app is clunky, but it functions without it fine.

It takes a little bit to decide on a pattern and get them all mounted and hooked up, but connectivity was easy and there are a lot of presets to get you going. They’re interesting to look at, and are fun to play with directly too.

If you want a little more presence, turn on rhythm mode, otherwise there are a bunch of background light settings. The colour and brightness transitions are smooth, and the tiles responsive. Expensive compared to regular lights or wall decorations, but as an interactive smart-home product I think they hit the mark well.

Hi – I got this for my very tech savvy husband for his birthday. My husband is a tech savvy guy and He spent over an hour trying to get it to work with his Android phone. Totally disappointing. He reminded me that we’ve never had success with a tech product from the MoMa Design Store, but we’ve always had success with jewelry and toys/art products for kids.

Probably best to stick with those products.

Started with 17 pieces nanoleaf canvas, now I have 42 pieces. Just can’t stop expanding my canvas setup to complement my recent room makeover. Had a lot of fun setting up. Great and fuss free purchase from Synced by District, from purchase to delivery.

Would love to purchase more tech products from them if price is reasonable.

The Nanoleaf Canvas is a great home improvement gift, and I got it set up in my room within an hour. Doing some home remodeling is a great way to pass time during a lockdown, and I was pleasantly surprised to get my delivery on the same day.

Would definitely recommend. I also liked the option of paying for it in installments at no extra charge.

The Panels themselves live up to the hype. The App to control the panels is a different story. The Panels are constantly in a disconnected state, so when it’s time to take them off chances are they are are unreachable by the app, so I have to walk all the way downstairs to manually power them off, same with powering on at times.

Again the unreachable state means you cannot change the scene. So, in a nutshell, get them setup and choose your scene wisely perhaps set up a schedule and hope for the best, but even doing this proves to be a frustrating nightmare.

Also if you try to use different devices, be warned the newer active device appears to erase everything you did previously with another device.

This is not a “smart home”, but a “dumb home” product. Stopped working out of the blue 3 days since the purchase. The rhythm connector kept on blinking, the device was unreachable. Googled that it may be caused by some DNS issues.

For the product with such pricing spending the evening looking for problem and then still to open the ticket with Nanoleaf? Is it called SMART now? Why do you offer so many layouts in your app, if after taking your panels off the wall, the wall needs to be repainted because the stickers ripped off the paint? Someone likes to repeat this procedure daily just to try new nanoleaf’s layout? Luckily it happened within 15 days return period, so bye-bye nanoleaf, you’re going back to the store and we meet no more.

And I’m still left with a damaged wall.

Absolutely god awful interface that is plagued with bugs and chronic incompatibility. Failed connecting despite ensuring network was at 2. 4GHz WHICH BY THE WAY IS A KEY REQUIREMENT NOT STATED CLEARLY ANYWHERE WHEN YOU PURCHASE (even their product website, at the time of this review, has ZERO mention of this).

This device was unable to pair successfully with an iPhone 6, iPhone 10S, or iPad mini 4. Complete waste of time and money. Do yourself a favour and stick with the Philips Hue family of hardware for colourful home lighting.

I’ll be selling this nonsense. May as well have just stuck actual leaves on my wall.

Bought these for my son for his birthday. He really loves them. Fairly easy to set up. It doers come with templates, but we just laid the lights out on the floor to get the pattern we wanted and transferred the pattern to the wall 1 piece at a time.

Needs the app for best results.

These lights are great to look at but you need to keep WiFi on 2G and be close to your router for them to stay connected. My office is upstairs far from my router so the WiFi is weak, the initial setup of the lights worked but connectivity is so sketchy and random after that I barely bothered to even turn them on.

They are back in the box in a cupboard now and unfortunately I can’t return them as it’s been too long. Best not to waste your time and money unless you are going to locate them right beside your router and don’t mind being on 2G.

Pros: I love the way you can alter the colour and make them move with sound. They look fab when in use but very bland when not. It would be nice to be able to preset the colour for when they are turned off.

Cons: They kept falling off the wall. Flimsy and very expensive for what they are.

The salesperson at Synced was extremely helpful. He explained to me about all three different Nanoleaf products and even gave me measurements for each to see which one will be suited for my wall. He then brought out a measuring tape to assist me to chose the number of hexagons needed.

The buying process was smooth on the website. As for the product, I simply love it. Having Lifx, Philips Hue and now Nanoleaf, I can say that Nanoleaf brings our better pastel colours and it creates a very welcoming ambience :).

The instructions are clear, easy to follow, and you’ll definitely want an extra set of hands. My covers broke during mockup/install because I tried to install alone. Nanoleaf quickly replaced them at no charge to me.

I’d recommend a laser level, or a 4 foot bubble level for making sure your hubs are aligned. Use the lines to form triangles with each hub mount, use the level!, and move the lines as needed to keep proper spacing; rather than prebuild and trying to mount your pattern all at once.

All in all, after the install, the product is fantastic. The app is ok, the smart integration with Google home and Alexa functions well.

Starting off with the packaging which is pretty nice and very easy to assemble. You get 9 lines which is a good amount to make a design. The light is very bright and the configurations are nice. You can configure it all through its app.

Only negative thing I can say about it is that it’s expensive, but then again it’s definitely worth it’s price. I would recommend waiting for a sale to get them though. Overall 10/10 for me.

Nice alternative to the other shapes, wish they were just a complete plain square rather than being segmented though.

The Nanoleaf products look amazing in my computer area. So good that I’m thinking about expanding to some of the other build items they have, and setting them up in other parts of my basement, which has a few lower light areas that could use some light.

The app from my phone is exceptionally easy to operate, and offers a number of different patterns and options that you can setup and choose from out of the box. Highly recommended!.

Bought this to go with the smarter kit when they were both on sale and it is definitely worth it. I have them set up to turn on when I wake up and off when I leave the house in the morning. Plus all the different designs you can make on your wall.

Definitely going to buy at least one more expansion pack.

Just received my NanoLeaf Shapes Hexagon Smarter Kit today and have been testing it out. Inside this smarter kit comes, 7 Hexagonal shaped light panels with 7 mounting plates, 8 linkers that connects the panels to one another, a controller, power adapter, and double-sided adhesive tape.

Also included is a Quick Start Guide and a design insert with a few layout examples. Given you only have 7 panels, your layout designs are pretty limited, however, you can purchase additional panels to build-out larger designs.

Initially I attempted and failed to create my layout design on my bed, but later I actually read the instructions and watched a couple of videos online that showed the proper way of installing the panels on the wall with the double-sided tape and adding the linkers to the panels once they’re lined up on the wall.

After creating a simple design I downloaded the NanoLeaf app to my iPhone (which is also available on the Google Play store for Android phones). The app guides you in making sure all the panels are connected properly and continues through the rest of the setup process including creating an account and connecting it to any smart home networks you make.

It works with Apple HomeKit as well as, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and IFTTT. After getting the app up and running, you can power up the light panel either via the app or the controller that MUST be connected to one of the panels.

My set noticed that there was a firmware update for the panels and took about 3 minutes or so to download and install the update. After updating went into the discover tab which lists a ton of different scenes that you can download and startup.

Watch your lights start to dance and change colors based on which color scheme you select. One of my absolute favorites is using any of the color schemes with a music note. These allow your panels to respond to either your television or any music playing nearby.

If I only had one gripe about the panels so far would be that although this is just a smarter/starter set, I wish there were more linkers included; just to make connecting them to one another a little more secure.

I’ll confess, I’ve been fascinated by lighting since I was a kid. Even though I’ve lost much of my vision, I’m still always playing with new lights. For some time, I’ve been interested in the Nanoleaf panels, since they support HomeKit, and have gotten good reviews.

So, when we saw a good Black Friday price, we got a set to try. Wow. They are incredibly cool. Setup was a breeze, I had them in HomeKit in no time. They also support Thread with the current update, making them very responsive.

The number of scenes available is staggering, and their app even has decent VoiceOver support. We made one modification while mounting them: we used “click style” Command Strips to mount them so we could redo it without much effort.

It paid off, the first attempt was not what we wanted. But, using the AR function in the app, we were able to come up with a new arrangement that works really well. We’re quite happy with them, and we have plans to get more.

I’m really digging the Nanoleaf. I’ve seen them in restaurants before and assumed they were priced significantly more than the actual buy in is for a 7 pack of hexagons. It’s also why I haven’t invested in the Phillips hue style bulbs, because while it’s cool having the ability to change your lights to all kinds of fun colors, I seriously am skeptic of how often I’d personally want anything other than just the color of a regular light bulb that, you know, makes it so you can actually see things in your room.

BUT this is different because it’s essentially a piece of art intended for your wall. It’s an interactive light poster, if you will. And instead of having to figure out what color you want to set it each time you turn it on, Nanoleaf has made it dead simple to pick from any number of “scenes” that cycles through all kinds of colors (including “Christmas” which is, yep, red, green and white), meaning you can mostly just set it and forget it.

Even better are the scenes that respond to sound. These are great and work surprisingly well. I like leaving the Nanoleaf in one of these scenes, because then the light is off when no one is in the room.

(Also, if you have a young child prepare for them to flip out at this feature and spend hours yelling and making sounds to see the lights come on. ) I have a dedicated theater room in a basement so it can get really dark in there.

I like having a little light on while watching a movie or show and these lights are so bright that I have to back the brightness down to under 25% when watching. Otherwise, it’s just too much even with a soft color palette.

But on that note, it’s so great to be able to have dim light that’s NOT white for this scenario. And Nanoleaf have all the off-whites covered. The app is good. Not great – definitely have had a few buggy moments in the Android version (firmware never downloaded) and an overall better experience on an iPad Pro.

Still, it’s got a lot going for it and I’m excited to play around with creating my own scenes for specific use cases. No issues connecting to Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s HomeKit. This is the first time I’ve used a smart device with HomeKit and FYI you can access different scenes for the Nanoleaf right in control center on your iPhone/iPad – which is terrifically convenient.

Getting everything running via voice and Alexa has been a bit hit and miss, but I’m inclined to blame Alexa here. Need to test it out more. Overall, really cool product if you’re looking to spruce up a blank wall in a room and like the option of adding some color without having to paint.

Application to the wall was super simple – the hardest part is just deciding how you want to do your layout. Would a remote be nice? A remote might be nice but then also one more thing to have to buy batteries for.

Due to WFH, being a shopaholic, and watching too much twitch. I’ve been on a buying spree of everything and anything that can make my home office more “cool”/”dope”/”hip”/”sus”/”no cap” (I dont know what the cool kids say these days).

So naturally this brought me to buying some nanoleaf. So straight up, the app is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used and most of this review will be me complaining about how bad the app is. But I am still keeping it partially because I like it and partially because I am too lazy to take it down after all the effort I put in to find the right design and mount it to the wall.

After unpacking the shapes, I had both the triangles and hexagon shapes, I loaded up the app to use the AR so I can test different designs in the room. This completely failed because the app didn’t have the new triangle shapes and could not do the hexagon + triangle shapes together, this was basically a couple days after it got released on BestBuy.

So I had to just go old school and cut some paper into shapes and tape them on the wall. To mount it to the wall I ended up using 3m command strips and that was a pain because the interconnects between the shapes kept on popping off.

Once I got it all mounted, after much drinking and crying, I loaded up the app to pair the controller. I could not pair it until I ended up using the QR code that was on a piece of paper in the box. DO NOT throw this paper away because I’ve had to re-pair it a couple times and the only way I’ve been able to ever successfully pair it is using this QR code on the paper.

I’ve photographed it, made 100 copies, laminated it, gave it to my 100 closest friends and family for safe keeping, mailed it to myself through slow mail so it shows up in a few years, just in case. After pairing it, I had the joy of going through the app to find different scenes.

While it shows you the basic colors that are part of the scene and whether its a music/beat based or a fixed pattern scene, it doesn’t do a good job of telling you what that particular scene will do.

Applying the scene was never a 100% thing for me, guesstimating I would say I had around a 85% success rate where I didn’t have to apply it through the app multiple times before it showed up on the device.

Once its going, its actually pretty cool and I currently have it set to a relaxing scene which provides some nice ambient lighting/mood in the room, perfect for some late night coding and/or reading.

That is until it just randomly turns off, randomly turns on, or just says bye felicia and pretends it doesnt know who you are. Its really disconcerting when you walk into your room and the nanoleaf is just on doing its thing, where you swear to yourself you turned it off last night, and you stand there staring at it thinking A) Its possessed and telling you a message, like get out of my house.

B) Someone is hiding in the walls of your house and turning it on/off randomly to mess with you. C) The app is total garbage. D) All of the above. Most recently, an update got released so I decided to apply it to my devices.

Not shockingly, this was also a terrible experience. It was super slow, didn’t do a good job of telling you the progress, it basically went from 0 -> done with nothing in between. Finally the update screen still thought an update was available even though the devices were reporting the latest was applied, Anyways, I like the product, I hate the app, if you do buy it be prepared to deal with a crappy app, maybe it will treat you better, who knows.

I was intrigued by the idea of smart lighting that also could double as a decoration itself and I’d heard some positive things about the Nanoleaf panels. The starter kit that I picked up included: – 7 Nanoleaf panels – 9 Panel connectors – 1 Lighting control module – 1 braided power cord with power brick First off – I would recommend you have a place in mind for where these are going to go before you buy them.

I would also recommend that you be sure that the lighter wood color of the panels works with your decor. Our house uses mostly dark wood / traditional look, so the panels would look a bit out of sync with their modern, and lighter style.

Setting up the panels was pretty straightforward once I figured out where to put them. There’s a generous length to the power cord, but the power brick on the end is utterly massive, so if you can’t run the cable behind furniture that’s flush against the wall.

I ended up not having that issue where I ended up installing them, but YMMV. The power cord and control board can be attached to any panel in the setup, and the kit itself comes with a sheet with design ideas to get you started.

I was able to get them setup in both HomeKit and in the Nanoleaf app. There’s more options in the Nanoleaf app than in HomeKit, but all the scenes were accessible in the Apple Home app – and I have some automation running different scenes at different times a day.

Waterfall and Clouds are by far, my 2 favorite scenes. There’s also some scenes that will “dance” along with music – but it’s not beat-synced or anything, just a fun lighting effect. They also can do basic, one-tone lighting for times like reading or when you want a warmer, more mellow light.

They’re a cool option to add to a smart home, but they only work with a 2. 4 GHz WiFi signal – so your iPhone / Android will need to be on that network during initial setup if you have your 5GHz and 2.

4 network SSIDs split. My main issue with the panels is their design, which I assume is the trade off to get the lighting to come through. I don’t know if the effects would’ve looked the same if the panels were a darker shade of wood instead of the teak look they have.

All in all, I like them and I think they’re a cool way to liven up a room.

Great modern art light. You can apply direct to a wall, or create a hollow panel frame to apply them to and hang them that way. Good advance planning is needed to figure out what lite shapes are needed as they are “costly”.

Note the starter sets as you may need only 1-2 max. Each one can control separate lighting options within the same group. again, think it out first. A combination of mini shapes along with larger ones will give a more colorful effect.

A good option they have is the low lite setting dimmer, because these can be very bright. Lot’s and lot’s of color combinations can be made. Enjoy,,,,, PJJS.

Okay, okay I admit this is a ridiculous product that is overpriced and is fairly niche. Honestly, this is for middle-class or above people who have nothing better to spend money on. I thought this product and a number of expansion sets to create the first letter of my son’s name to put on his wall.

It did that, but at the expense of multiple kits to form even a basic letter at, of course, a significant amount of money. The overall effect is pretty and he does enjoy it, especially with some of the games you can play with it.

If I were trying to live to a strict budget, this is a ridiculous expense and I do not recommend it for anyone who doesn’t have a fair amount of expendable income.

Work well, lots of light. I hope the price point drops as I would like to install more but at $20. 00 plus per panel I will not be adding to my collection. They are easy to install but I had to buy 3M Command strips as the ones that come with the lights do not adhere to the wall.

The app control makes it fun to set up.

Great product! Hit a great sale on them so was able to expand my design in my room! Perfect for our office! Adds great light for being on conference meetings on zoom. Also great colors for adding spice to your room.

When they work as they should, they’re amazing! However, these are not very friendly working with newer Wi-Fi networks that use Wi-Fi 6. My specific router does not broadcast a separate 5GHz and 2. 4GHz channel, just one and the router will assign it the correct channel.

Nanoleaf’s technology is pretty outdated and has to utilize older bands on the 2. 4GHz channel to work correctly. I reached out to support numerous times and they weren’t helpful. The first “solution” was to simply send me a new controller because they were “able to run diagnostics and could tell the controller was defective.

” The controller I was sent was the incorrect model and did not work with the hexagons at all (I was sent a controller for the panels and not shapes, two completely different types of controllers). I reached back out to support and they tried to run me through the whole troubleshooting process again.

The new controller did nothing for me and I continuously had issues. Eventually I would get the lights to pair with my network, but after about a week they would disconnect from the network and I’d spend hours trying to reconnect them.

Finally after hours of research, I had to dive deep into my router’s settings and change the 2. 4GHz band to an older band. Ever since doing that, I’ve had zero issues with the lights and their connectivity.

I stream PC games and have the lights set up with my Elgato Stream Deck so I can simply press a button and change the lights. I also have a program where if someone follows, subscribes, cheers, etc the lights will react and can do an “event” (flash certain colors or whatever you wish).

This certainly adds some flair to the stream and downright looks amazing! The lights are very reactive to music and very bright, or you can dim them very low for some neat but not distracting ambiance in the background.

Nanoleaf’s support has some work to do, the technology needs to be upgraded with what’s current, but once you’ve figured it out they’re an awesome addition!.

Absolutely the coolest addition to any game room or any room with electronics in it. Behind or surrounding your tv or monitor these things look awesome! If only they weren’t so expensive I’d have these things all over my house! They are so bright and fun to watch and fiddle with.

Installation is super simple and besides a lower price these things are a 10/10. There is no competitor out there that can get close to this quality in my honest opinion. I wanted these for so long and have almost purchased them on so many occasions but due to price have talked myself out of it over and over.

Eventually I gave in and in the few short weeks since then I have purchased 4 more expansion packs!.

Stay away from nanoleaf. I have had absolutely nothing but problems with mine and I have had them for about a year now. From constantly disconnecting from my wifi or my devices, to the one panel that is broken and lights up red even when the power is “off”.

I can’t recommend AGAINST these enough. They damage the wall if you try to remove them no matter how careful you are. They are overpriced, have some serious quality control issues, and there customer service staff are absolutely terrible to deal with.

I have 10 of these panels in total, one is completely broken and 2 others dont work as advertised. There solution is to send them $75 plus shipping to replace 3 panels that arent even a year old. Got with Govee or lifex instead.

Not worth the hassle, and they REALLY ARE NOT worth how much they charge for these things.

Love these. Bright and beautiful. But should be priced lower. Why are 3 extender packs (9 lines) more expensive than the starter kit (9 lines and plug)?

Bought these to add to my 9 light set. These lights are amazing but the price is a little high for just 3 lights but these are high end. You get what you pay for.

Got this to expand my nanoleaf lines. Great product all in all but a little on the pricier side. Highly recommend this to everyone.

I cannot even get it to connect to the and your staff not helpful. Nanoleaf appointed support centre also useless to help. Looks like a total waste of my money. Will warn others not to buy if I still cannot get it resolved.

The shopping experience was great, seamless and easy. The staff were also very helpful! So the nanoleaf shapes that I bought were awesome and it’s really easy to setup! Now my room is permanently just lit up by them and it is the centerpiece of the entertainment room!.

Bought these after reviewing the starter kit, cause you can never have enough Nanoleaf lights. And while the Elements *are* really nice, I think the pricing is a bit out of whack. First of all, these aren’t RGB lights, just white so they should already be cheaper than say, Canvas or Shape expansion packs.

But even worse, you only get three instead of four like in the Canvas or Shapes expansions. I love Nanoleaf, but I think they’re getting a little aggressive in their pricing strategy and are going to price themselves out of competition.

They need to realize they are no longer the only option out there!.

This thing is amazing! besides the wood look, it pairs nicley with Home Kit. You can program the panels to turn on or off any other light in Home Kit. That alone is worth the price of admission. The Nanoleaf app gives you a quite a bit more functionality than Apple home can so you definitely want to play around with that.

My only complaint is that I feel like it should come with 5 panels instead of 3.

I purchased an additional 6 panels (2 boxes) to compliment the original 7. At 13 panels, the wall footprint is larger, but not intrusive. It still looks great powered on or off. The effect is now amplified and at night creates a fireplace like ambience of kinetic color!.
