Muzzle brakes are devices that are attached to the muzzle of a firearm that redirects propellant gases to counter recoil and unwanted muzzle rise. muzzle brakes are used on everything from small caliber rifles to large caliber machine guns.
In general, the larger the caliber and the more powerful the cartridge, the greater the need for a muzzle brake.
Muzzle brakes work by redirecting and dissipating the energy of the muzzle blast away from the shooter. This makes the firearm more comfortable to shoot, and also reduces muzzle rise, which can help the shooter stay on target for follow-up shots.
Some muzzle brakes are designed to reduce the overall noise signature of the firearm, while others do not. Some muzzle brakes can be very effective at reducing recoil, while others may not do much to reduce recoil but can greatly reduce muzzle rise.
It all depends on the design of the muzzle brake and the intended purpose.

Shimano Brake Shoe M65T for Cantilever Brake Y84F98060
These are coming up for replacement, I will use again, they are quality parts that work well, wet or dry, and have lasted 1000’s of miles commuting & off road too. Recommended product.
Good quality shimano replacement shoes. Fairly old bike but so much better braking now. Not the easiest things to set up but thats standard for this type of brake.
GrovTec quality and performance driven products for your firearm GrovTec ensures nothing but the best in quality material and design for your firearm. Don’t settle for anything less, use GrovTec.
They feature a rim-friendly compound, strong yet won’t destroy your rims. Threaded with various sized spacers and totally adjustable. Also have an angled tip that plows away mud and rain from rims and these pads are curved for compatibility with 26″ or 700c rims.
Salmon compound is especially good for wet weather but work great dry too.
Want to keep your bike light and oil free these pads are sharp in wet or dry. You will think you have disks breaks but imo they are better than disks brakes they are that good. And they keep your bike very light weight.
I’m a pro Rider and have no probs with my rib bike in still using 26″ and my bike is from the 90’s don’t believe the hype on disks just because they are the new trend these pads are worth it I had them for years they lasts longer than the ones that come with xtr Shimano.
The long 108-millimeter Eclipse Brake Arms are cold forged from 6061-T6 Aluminium. Cold forging produces the strongest, stiffest, lightweight and most durable bicycle parts. Featuring 35 millimeters of vertical brake pad adjustment-more than most linear-pull brakes.
Other features include precision sealed bearing pivots, titanium and stainless steel hardware, a flexible cable noodle and streamlined cable fixing point. Included are colour-matched X-Ray brake shoes, which feature a stiffer cold forged and CNC-machined cartridge body, triple-compound pads for superior braking and pivoting mounting posts for perfect pad alignment.
Genius brakes are excellent for BMX, mountain, city, urban, gravel and tandem bicycles using linear-pull-comaptible levers. Meets or exceeds ENBMX standards.
It’s so nice to spend the extra money on a product and actually get the expected quality and performance. Box One V brakes are the best on the market. It doesn’t hurt that they look great. Many thanks.
Great brakes. Open the box, which put theme on bike and they work very well and easy to adust. Hex adusting screws last longer than Phillips head screws.
These brakes are awesome !!! They look great but most importantly, is they work very well and are easy to adjust with the Allen key screw instead of the Phillips head screw.
The Flash Pro full brake pad set consists of the brake pad and pad holder and is for use with Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105, SRAM and TRP braking systems. For use on carbon rims only. Black Prince: Latest carbon rim compound, provides superior power, control and modulation.
Braking distances are significantly reduced in all conditions. Yellow King: Awesome power (wet & dry) and precise modulation on carbon rims. No squeaking and very little wear to the rim. Supplied as a pair of pads for one complete brake.
I bought these brake blocks as I had upgraded my wheels and wanted to start with fresh blocks. The old blocks I had were extremely hard compound and although they lasted forever, they barely stopped the bike…if it was wet you could forget about stopping altogether.
These are night and day…my local route includes a very steep downhill with a give way at the bottom meaning you need to brake from 40mph to 0 really quickly. I can now brake more than half the distance from the end of the road compared to before.
Although I don’t think these will last as long due to softer compound, they are so much more effective and also do less damage to rims. Definitely worth the money and I will purchase again when this pair are worn out.
That was before I got these brake blocks. I was having serious problems getting blocks to grip my alloy rims. These are the 3rd ones I tried. The most expensive but they actually work. If your bakes are rubbish you could do worse than splash 20 on a pair of these for the front.
If your bike is fine with the cheaper ones then lucky you, buy the cheaper ones. In use they are easy on the hands giving a progressive feel which helps you not skid. You can bake harder and retain control.
Purchased based on reviews. I agree that these might be a little more expensive than those from a certain japanese brand (less so at the moment with them being on offer) but I’ve found the stopping power to be so much better.
I’ll admit to being old and slow but being able to confidently brake just that little bit later has improved my average speed already.
High performance Kevlar, Ceramic, Brass and Resin composite material is what you get with the SwissStop Disc 26 Organic MTB Brake Pads. Suitable for selected Avid, Elixir and SRAM disc brakes they provide maximum braking power with minimal effort at the brake lever.
Their performance is consistent in both wet and dry conditions and pad life is excellent.
I started with TRP stock semi metallic pads, then went to Shimano G02S organic pads, then these. The TRP stock pads were pretty bad in every aspect. The Shimanos offered a bit more bite, but faded and made funny noises very quickly.
These pads offer a lot more bite, and you will burn your rotors long before they fade. Also a plus if you’re looking at the Disc15 E model. The lower edge of the brake pads is ground down, so they work with modern rotors perfectly.
I’m using them with XT rotors and they hit the braking surface absolutely perfect, they don’t go down to the spokes like many other pads that use the old tall Deore standard. Overall 5/5!.
I’ve been testing pads since ever. The pads until now fulfill with my needs. Stopping power 8/10, heat resistance 9/10, noise 8/10. Bike plus rider about 105 kg. Ride style Enduro / AM
Great organic pads with high performance, so quick to settled in! I use them on my gravel bike equipped with TRP Spyre brakes (compatible with SHIMANO M525 / 515 pads). I bought them at € 16. 99 & I seriously hope that TRADEINN will continue to supply them, thanks guys! : o).
Always use Shimano brake pads to maintain the power and durability of your Shimano Brake System. Shimano brake pads offer just the right level of hardness for high stopping power under tough conditions in MTB use.
I bought this for a different model Shimano brake lever (M355) and it sort of worked. The bladder fit the same where the cover was just a little different. Since my cover was damaged, I used this new cover and it worked well.
If Shimano would have included a bleed screw this would be totally complete. The M355 screw is a little different but still works. That is why the 4 star rating. Luckily Shimano brakes at this level are very similar.
I bought a brand new Carrera Vulcan in April ’19 and complained about the brakes from day one. After months of thinking “It must be me” I finally gave in and bought replacement pads. These little blocks of organic material have made the world of difference.
Instant stopping power. After very little bedding in these stoppers are far superior to those fitted as standard, I genuinely am impressed. I know bikes these days are built to a price, but come on, these are less than three and a half quid ! Why can’t they be fitted from the get go ? If you own any new Carrera I would strongly suggest fitting these brakes instead.
Get them while they’re on offer, you won’t regret it. Great little pads.
I bought these Clarkson brake pads a few weeks ago and have since knitted them to my bike and used them while out in a ride. I cycled in quite a hilly area and while descending I found the brake efficiency to be very effective.
After riding for 4/5 hours on a second occasion later in the week in a similar hilly area, I decided on my return to inspect the brake pads and evaluate the extent of wear. Now this is the reason I referred earlier to disappointing purchase, as both the front and rear pads had nearly worn down to their minimum level to the point of really needing to be replaced.
However, I said that the pads were disappointing, but when one considers the their low cost, including the further price reduction that Halfords offered when I purchased them, the pads are probably reasonable value for money when considered against far more expensive pads available from the main brand names.
The amount will be paid once received in our warehouse and verified its status. Within this period, you can return said product along with the invoice. Compralo ya!
Installed these a week ago and put them to use on a 25 mile ride. Fortunately I didn’t have to make any severe stops. Not certain as to why they have such poor breaking quality. Restored my old Diacomp pads that must be 25 years old, and they simply work better.
I wonder if the same manufacturer’s design with the shorter pad might be a better choice and offer better stopping effort.
The pads work great. I also like the grooves on the brake pad positioning stems. They allow for greater grip when tightening the stems in position to the bicycle rim. The price was very good also. XLC is always of good quality IMHO.

I love these levers they are excellent, the price is awesome. Shimano makes excellent quality bike parts. I am truly impressed with their quality in there products. If there’s anything I have learned it’s that you never want to buy something generic ever.
Other levers are cheap. Shimano puts thought into there products.
Replace old brake levers from an old ten-speed. Converted handlebars to mountain bike style. No longer need to bend over and reach so far for the levers!!

Simple in-area, or backcountry, insurance against runaway skis. As a no-hassle alternative to ski straps, especially in avalanche country, Diamir Brakes work with 2004 and later Fritschi frame bindings.
I use this beacon for Ski touring and have absolutely loved it so far! It took a little bit to understand how the light sensor switches modes and how it locks itself in those different modes, but once you understand it (it’s really quite simple), it works amazing.
So fast and really accurate in my tests. Love it’s size and operation! Favorite beacon I’ve owned for sure!.

Fortis’ Rapid Engagement Device” or better known as the Fortis RED ” is a brake that stays true to Fortis’ brand. They wanted to develop” engineer” and design a military grade accessory that not only functions great” but looks great also.
Tested and evaluated by people in the military and law enforcement community – then put to the test by members of the 3 gun community” Fortis came up with this design. Tested under harsh full auto conditions” the RED doesn’t disappoint.
Now control shield compatible! Keep your speed and accuracy up. Put more down range and on target.
The Cura has been designed from top to bottom with rider needs in mind. Our laboratory tests and tests on the race tracks have confirmed that the Cura is an extremely powerful braking system that feels comfortable in every situation, from all mountain / enduro to the downhill world cup.
Power, reliability, optimized roll back are just some of the aspects that make the Cura a brake suitable for the new generation mountain bike. The pump with axial design and the use of a special high-performance mineral oil make the Cura a brake suitable for all types of riders.
A special manufacturing process made it possible to create a plant made from forged aluminum with the costs of casting. For this the Cura offers an overall quality unmatched in its category.
The product has the typical Formula brake issues – the caliper pistons are sticky (won’t retract) so you will have to clean and move the pistons until the seals are flexible enough to retract. Also, the organic pad that came with my order seem to be contaminated – there’s almost no braking power.
After these issues were resolved, my brakes worked great. But it took me a lot of effort to resolve.
5. 56MM 1/2X28 THREAD – Patented design individually serial numbered for quality control – Heat-treated CM construction w/phosphate finish – OAL: 3. 28″ – Dia. : 1. 35″ – Wt. : 7. 0 oz. – Works on any barrel length – Made in USA – NOTE: Classified as flash suppressor by the BATF FTB.
Strike Industries’ Oppressor represents the next evolution in concussion reduction devices. It provides a no compromise solution for redirecting the gases produced by aggressive brakes and compensators.
The advanced internal geometry actively draws the gases out and thrusts the gases forward through vents to accomplish linear braking in order to retain more braking efficiency. It uses a proprietary quick detach mounting system, which can be rapidly installed before transitioning to prone shooting positions, or for indoor use.
The Oppressor is compatible with SI muzzle devices which include: Venom-FH, Checkmate Comp, King Comp, MK-9 Comp, J-Comp Gen2, Sierra Comp, and Triple Crown Comp. This model has a black nitride finish.
The QD Blast Shield was designed to offer significant concussion reduction for the end user and other team members operating in the immediate vicinity. Often team members in CQB environments experience concussion from muzzle blast that is not only deafeningly loud” but also can cause prolonged headaches that can last for days afterwards.
Especially effective on short barrels” the unique design of the QD Blast Shield directs concussive force forward allowing an end user to rapidly reconfigure muzzle device function. The body is fluted in the same way as Griffin QD suppressors” increasing strength to weight ratio for added geometrical strength” while increasing surface area for faster cooling.
The QD mechanism is fast” positive” and free of wear prone geometry commonly found in ratcheting devices. The QD Blast Shield also comes with a shim set and over travel stop to refit your A2 compensator for optimal use.
The Griffin QD Blast Shield is compatible with Griffin’s line of SDQD mounts in 7. 62 and 5. 56mm” Including the Flash Comp” Muzzle Brake” Linear Comp” Compensating Flash Hider” and Tactical Compensator.
Silencer interface was designed to fit the USGI A2 government contract compliant muzzle devices.
Kit – comes with the blast shield. If you don’t mind adding serious weight to the end of your rifle then its a no-brainer. Looks – in the pictures online it presents with a pretty snazzy look. Design – would be fine, IF it actually fit.
So clearly there are always variances in tolerances from same product to same. This can certainly be the case when going from a different manufacturer making a product that is supposed to fit on somebody else product.
I didn’t just try this Blast deflector on one A2 flash hider. I tried on all 3 rifles I own that don it and no joy. So clearly a too fat out of spec issue. Other than that it looks cool and glistening sitting in the box, as they coat the Sh|t outta it with gun oil.
Cam roller mechanism provides strong and responsive braking that’s easy to control – Hub mounted – eliminates the need to external parts and uses dedicated braking surface – Cooling fin to maintain optimum operating temperature – Inner cable quick release This item is sold by SDJ Sports, a business located in the UK and import duty/gst may apply.
Arrived packaged very professionally with the brake cable mount and brake cable attachmend included. Fast shipping from spain. Items as described. Really happy with my purchase.
We now have several bikes with rear roller brakes. They work well and require little maintenance. The only negative is the constant slight drag they put on the associated wheel.
A muzzle brake for 300 blackout can be a great addition to your firearm. It can help reduce recoil, muzzle rise, and help you stay on target. There are a few things to consider when choosing a muzzle brake for 300 blackout.
First, you want to make sure that the muzzle brake is compatible with the 300 blackout round. Second, you want to choose a muzzle brake that is the right size for your firearm. Third, you want to choose a muzzle brake that is the right style for your shooting style.
Lastly, you want to make sure that the muzzle brake is installed correctly.
