20 Best Mounting Tape For Car Dashboard (2023 Updated)

Put in the work = pressure over time, plus heat, and correct application equals a happy customer. If you quickly apply this tape without applying pressure, you won’t be happy with the product. I used this to apply wheel arch moldings to my subaru forester.

It works so much better than the adhesive tape included with the wheel arch moldings (they fell off, so I found this 3M tape to fix it). I am super happy with this product because it is extremely effective.

I took my time applying this tape to the properly cleaned plastic trim pieces. I applied immense pressure to the tape as I applied it to the plastic trim from the roll. after I had all my pieces of tape applied to the plastic trim, I took my time removing the red backing of the tape, ensuring no dust or contaminants got on the extremely sticky surfaces.

Once all pieces of tape had red backing removed, i used a hair dryer to heat up the plastic trim+3M tape, and I carefully applied the trim piece for my rear doors to where the wheel arch moldings go.

I applied immense pressure to the plastic trim piece as it was applied to my properly cleaned wheel arch (the door), and after about 2 minutes of holding it in place with immense pressure, the plastic trim pieces were set and ready to live with my vehicle.

I’m super happy with the tape. Let it be known, The first time I used this tape, I didn’t other cleaning the wheel arch of the door, nor did I clean the plastic trim piece. The result was the trim piece didn’t stick well, and I couldn’t blame the tape – I had to blame myself for not putting in the work.

The work = cleaning every surface where you’re working, to include the rear door’s wheel arch, the plastic wheel arch moldings themselves, letting the pieces dry without contaminants, and again, applying ENOUGH 3M tape to the trim pieces, and when doing so – applying immense pressure to ensure the tape has stuck and will NOT budge, and not until that is done, remove the red backing of the tape.

Take your time with this stuff and you will be happy with the result. ENSURE NO AIR POCKETS EXIST between SURFACE applying tape to & the TAPE ITSELF (this is where immense pressure application is valuable).

also I recommend applying the tape directly as it’s attached to the roll and NOT cutting the piece you need and then applying it. Cut the tape only when you are at the point where you’re ready to stop applying it.

When it comes to automotive tape, there is no better than 3M! Its super adhesive and somewhat difficult to remove but not impossible but that’s what you want in this type tape! The only negative, in my opinion, is the protective red material that covers the adhesive side of the tape is very hard to remove! Once you can pull up a corner of the protective red tape from the adhesive the rest pulls off fairly easily! I would highly recommend using the 3m Adhesion Promotor along with the 3m tape as it makes the adhesive stick in almost any kind of weather condition, cold or hot!.

My Cavalier’s car molding has been peeling from the car for a couple of years. The rear doors started first, and when they got about half off, I removed them by hand. When the front door’s molding started peeling, I found this product.

The molding had about a 60° bend in them. Half was still attached to the car, but half was flapping in the breeze. The sun had helped shape the molding, not straight. I was concerned about the adhesiveness of this product being able to straighten the molding.

After cutting this molding tape to approximately what was hanging off the car, it was a little tricky to get the old caulk removed and this tape installed. But after doing the best I could, I pushed the molding against the car door firmly.

I remembered what 3-M said about their adhesive coat-hooks (press firmly for 60+ seconds), so I took that and did the same for the molding. I pressed it for three minutes, and cautiously released my pressure.

Well, three weeks later, and both front door moldings are still adhering in place. Multiple rain storms, and freezing temperatures too. So far, so good. I will update if the molding begins to release.

I was quite impressed with this Gorilla Clear Mounting Tape. I was specifically looking for a clear mounting tape for a curved item I needed to affix to my metal door. White mounting tape wasn’t an option since the round edging of the item would make the mounting show and since it’s a metal door, I didn’t really see an option to nail it in.

This mounting tape doesn’t have the same texture as white mounting tape. It’s more of a gel type texture. As such, it was a bit difficult to remove the other side of the tape from the backing (and a bit difficult to cut), however this texture turned out to be an advantage.

Why you ask? Because this texture makes it moldable. So not only is it clear enough that you can mount something without the mounting being visible, but you can also use your fingers to mold the shape of the tape afterwards to hold on to any circular edges.

This technique also helped with getting the tape to fully come in contact with both the item and metal. You can also squeeze it to hug the item or push whatever is left underneath, due to it’s flexibility.

So far, my item has stood up well. I trust the Gorilla brand in genera, but in addition, after using this, l feel like this clear mounting tape is going to stand the test of time and anything I use it for will withstand the test of time.

Gorilla Mounting Tape makes mounting decorations a breeze! I decorated for a birthday party and used Gorilla Mounting tape on a brick wall to hang decorations. All of the decorations held for the duration of the party, unlike the times I’ve used regular tape! It was nice to have the peace of mind that my hard work wouldn’t come tumbling down halfway through the day.

The hold of this tape if very strong, and I definitely would not recommend putting it on a normal painted wall, as it would take off your paint in the process of removing the tape. My husband also used this tape to mount some small bins on the wall in the garage.

These little bins hold screws, nails, washers, and more. So far so good, and the bins are holding steady! My husband had a difficult time trying to get the backing off, so I jumped in and helped. I didn’t have a hard time removing the backing on the tape for mounting because my fingernails helped.

I would certainly recommend Gorilla Mounting Tape for any small mounting jobs in the home/office/garage!.

This is advertised as holding up to 38 lbs. This is the cumulative weight the whole 150″ roll holds! The product description says holds 1 lb. per 4 inches. Each roll size says “holds up to” a different weight.

The weight works out to be roughly the length of the roll divided by 4. So technically, there is truth in the advertising, but it is definitely not what consumers may be expecting. I think this is clever deceit!.

This literally cannot hang a camera that is not even a pound. I’ve tried everything. Followed the intrucstions as written. Cleaned both surfaces, taped vertically, had it on a flat surface, held it down for 2 minutes.

Within 10 minutes it dropped the whole thing fell. CARPET TAPE HOLDS BETTER THEN THIS. I have some off brand carpet tape that literally holds all my cameras inside and out better then this. I had to use it because this stuff literally didn’t work.

Do not buy! I even tried hanging it with duct tape holding the sides of the camera just to see if it was the actual surface rather then the tape. The tape fell and the off brand duct tape had everything hanging in place because this tape is literally garbage.

Bought this because I had just flown in to San Antonio to pick up a used truck to drive home to El Paso. As soon as I touched the rearview mirror, it fell off the windshield, which was severely cracked and had a few starburst cracks too.

My intent was to replace the windshield once I got home so I could either invest in a kit to reinstall the mirror, or use a small amount of this Gorilla Glue Mounting Tape, which cost $2 more. I opted for the GGMT, since I would have plenty left over for other uses.

I cleaned the surface, attached a 1″ piece, pressed firmly, and held my breath as I let go. It held with minimal vibration for the entire trip home, over 600 miles. The next day, in the warmth of El Paso’s temps, the mirror began to sag, but the GGMT had done it’s job and got me home safely, and I still had plenty left over for other purposes.

this product is great. it is easy to use and can hold up to 30 pounds. we used it for pictures in the house. but can adhere to many different surfaces. can adhere to metal, glass, wood, stone and some plastics.

can also adhere to rough surfaces in additional to flat ones. this can be cut to whatever desired size you need. we have not tried to remove. the website has clear instructions on how to easily remove when you are ready.

i can think of many projects that i would use this for other than decorating.

I bought the VHB 4950. I used it to attach my solar panel on the roof of my van. At speeds of 80 mph this tape holds. If someone tried to tear the panel off they would break the panel or tear the roof.

The bond is solid and strong. I am very pleased with this product and even did a review on my YouTube channel.

went to use the junk and it wouldnt stick to anything. went to walmart and bought the 3m with the red peel cover on it. worked perfect. thought i was getting something better but it was junk instead.

My weather tech window deflectors fell off in a month. Used this tape to reattatch them since I couldn’t find the thin clear tape that came on the deflectors. Working great so far even with my subs rattling my truck.

For best results use 3m adhesion promoter 4298 wipes with this tape it will stick instantly.

Wonder tape! We’ve used this tape to secure fiberglass body accessories (wings, skirts, etc. ) to vehicles for years with great success. However, we also use screws and fasteners to further reinforce the bond, but we once installed and left in place a rear wing on a vehicle for years using only this tape! Apply this to two clean, slick painted surfaces, let it cure, and it’s not coming off.

I installed my trim pieces in 50 degree weather which is kinda cold and this tape stuck amazing 🙂 3m ftw!

Speed of processing orders and shipping has been top notch. The only complaint I have is the quality of converting to a smaller roll. The tape is not centered on the roll as it is converted. This has been like this on all three rolls I have ordered from them.

Strongest adhering tape I can find at the moment. 3M actually had a similiar looking white tape that was about 20% stronger. I think it’s very strange that it is not available anymore.

This held my wooden acoustic panels from France like a champion on the concrete walls and now like a permanent structure. Also can take care of much delicate material (foam structures) without eating through the material like most adhesive will.

Material is soft and stretchy too which compliments the surface and material that is being bonded as one. Beware: Once its glued, there is no turning back other that damaging the original surfaces. Great bonding stuff!!!!!.

I was having problems with my magnetic phone holder in my car. I have tried several dual sided tapes to hold the metal piece to my phone that, hooks to the magnetic phone holder, and none of them would hold but only a short period, the 3m dual sided tape held best, up until it dropped my phone on the floorboard! I am an Uber driver so it’s very important to have a hands free phone that doesn’t fall off and distracts you while driving.

Yes. I said crafting! I needed double sided tape for a project. This tape was inexpensive and worked better than those other more expensive double sided tapes. Excellent value, excellent quality.

I am a single Senior citizen. I needed to connect my dryer duct hose to the dryer. It’s in a very hard to reach, inconvenient location. The lip doesn’t give you much room to secure the hose on. So, I use the double-sided duct tape and wrapped it around the duct and secured the hose on it and it works like a charm.

Was easy to maneuver and sticks well.

I have several whiteboards for my volunteer work, and I have been searching for awhile to find a mounting tape that was strong enough to work more than just a day or two. Enter Gorilla mounting tape!! I am very impressed! Each whiteboard that I have used the gorilla tape on is adhered strongly to the wall! Even with me writing on it, erasing it, putting pressure on all corners of the board, it is still stuck on the wall with no problem! The “real deal” VHB tape, not the type (although still 3M) you find at the hardware store which eventually peels away under heat/stress. I use this to mount the communication set on my motorcycle helmet.

Any of the store bought tapes eventually start to separate away after a week or two. Spend the cash if you want stick on power like the type used on GoPro camera mounts. I gave it one star for “easy to remove” because it’s NOT SUPPOSED TO be easy.

3M very high bond 3M foam tape is the only way to go when you don’t want to drill holes to mount something. I used this 3M tape to mount my Garman GPS on my dash and also to mount HID ballast during a headlight retrofit.

I cannot say enough about how effective this 3M very high bond foam tape really is. You have got to use it to believe just how strong this stuff really is.

I purchased this to hang a lightweight picture and plastic shelf on my kitchen wall, unfortunately, this would not hold for 1 minute (seriously, not even 1 minute). I covered the entire perimeter of each item in mounting tape and still it would fall off the wall immediately.

I wish I could’ve returned this but I used the entire tape roll trying to secure two simple decor items and reapply tape where needed when it would fall. I thought I would at-least have some left over for other projects.

Definitely look at other mounting tape brands that can hold heavy items. This tape can only probably hold something small and extremelyyyyy lightweight (make sure it is way under 10 pounds though instructions state it can hold up to 10 pounds.

I purchased this product to stick some motion-activated lights underneath my kitchen cabinets. Each light strip weighs no more than 2 lbs, it’s just a thin plastic bar. but ever since day 1, we’ve had each light fall off and smash into the counter (thankfully none have broken) intermittently.

Sometimes we can manage a light to stick, undisturbed for 5 days at a time. But this product which claims to have a “30lb” hold on the front of the package, could barely manage to hold up a flimsy 2lb plastic bar.

Not a long term solution for us. Sadly I had thrown away the receipt so I can’t even return it. I really wanted this product to work.

We have been using the Scotch Permanent Mounting Tape for more than 25 years and have always enjoyed the multi-faceted utility of this incredible product. My wife creates all of our greeting and special occasion cards and uses this mounting tape to add dimension to card faces that pop out at the viewer.

I use this tape for mounting and attaching anything I need to put onto any flat surface. pictures, pods, signs, directions, etc. Not that flat is a criteria, this tape works equally well on curved surfaces when the mounting and mounted surfaces have the same curvature.

the tape is not the same any more, will not hold items in place, now items will move a little when I hang things. they haven’t fallen off, they just sag a little from the spot after I install things now, they changed the quality of the sheer strength of the tape, I have put more tape on be it still sags ,the tape is to spongy now.

I have been using this 3M tape for over 30 years, now it doesn’t work for me anymore. IT WAS THE BEST TWO WAY TAPE YOU COULD BUY, now its just like the rest of the two way tape out there. NOW IT’S NOT WORTH THE MONEY ANYMORE FOR ME.

WE bought this because it’s supposed to hold up to 10 pounds. We used it for floating shelves for my mom’s salt and pepper shaker collection. They are small and empty and the shelves are light weight.

There is no way they come to 10 lbs. On some of the shelves we used 2 strips and none of the strips were short. We used a strip long enough for the entire shelf each time and pressed them in to make sure they stuck-at least they were supposed to.

THEY CAME CRASHING DOWN!! Some of these were gifts and not replaceable. We will never use this again!.

I used this VHB tape to attach my solar panels to the roof of my camper. I had heard of people doing it, but I would admit that until I did it myself, I had doubts. Not anymore! If surfaces are prepared following the manufacturer’s instructions, this tap creates a really strong bond.

So strong that you will have only one shot at it. As soon as the tape enters in contact with the surface in question, there is no removing/readjusting possible. It’s on for good. Keep that in mind. I now wish I had an extra set of hands.

I’m installing a couple of flexible solar panels on the roof of my F-350. I bought 2 rolls and so far have installed one. The tape was very well packaged and was shipped very fast. The tape has held the solar panel strong on the roof and panel has survived freeway speeds.

You need to make sure that the item you are adhering is position exactly how you want it because the tape won’t let go. I will order more from Find-Tape. They have the best prices.

3m has done it again with another fine product. Tape is as strong as some glues. Used it to secure plastic body pieces on automobile . Worth the price .

1 roll was badly damaged! The second roll was not damaged. The packaging material was not damaged, so it had to have been shipped thay way from you

Tape hard to cut clean. It sticks to the cutter and distorts the end. Also difficult to remove the cover tape. It did pass my shear test so far.

I cannot think of a product that has frustrated me more than this one! To the point I was screaming! First, you can’t cut off a piece. No matter what pair of scissors I use, the tape sticks to much to them as I cut, that I can only get cut halfway through.

Then it is stuck so much to the scissors, that I often ruin the piece trying to get it off, even before I finish the cut! And for the pieces that I DO manage to get cut, after I apply them, I can’t get the stupid backing off! So half of the remaining pieces are then ruined as well, as they come up from the shelf I just applied them to.

What a piece of crap!.

For the life of me I cannot remove the backing of this tape!!!!!!! And all the other non-3M mounting tape never behaved this way. For the love of your mental health, if you do not want to be screaming and crying and spend a godforsaken 2 hours trying to get one single piece of the backing off – do not buy.

I used to love and only trust 3M products but I will start venture to alternatives now. This is the most awful tape I’ve ever bought.

There are a couple of things you need to be aware of when using this product: 1. Removing the backing is tricky. Running the teeth of a comb diagonally along the corner of the tape works although you might need tweezers to finish.

2. This stuff is seriously sticky. It sticks to scissors making cutting difficult. If you put just a tiny drop of oil on your scissor blades before cutting you can solve this problem.

When this tape sticks to a clean surface it is stuck. It was somewhat hard keeping it from sticking to my fingers. Working slow and a little patience helps. Other than that it is a great product.

A few years ago I mounted all of my prints on my walls with Scotch double-sided tape, and they are still all there! Recently I bought some new prints that needed mounting and thought I’d try “Gorilla” double-sided tape as I’d heard good things about it, but it was extremely hard to use as the backing was almost impossible to peel off.

And withing a few hours all the prints that I’d used Gorilla tape on had fallen down! Maybe the surface was the issue – it’s slightly rough dry wall with a coating of paint. So I bought a new roll of Scotch double-sided tape and stuck the prints to the wall with that with no problems at all, and the backing peels off without any problem.

I got this to mount my nest security door sensors up after moving and having to remove the original adhesive strips. These. kind of suck. The things I’m mounting are not heavy at all, like AT ALL. Unless the surface is COMPLETELY clean and smooth, it will not stick well, if at all.

It’s holding them up for now, until I get something better, but I can tell just by slightly tugging on them that they’ll eventually begin to fall down. It says it hold 15lbs. Lol. I wouldn’t trust it to hold 1lb.

None the less 15lbs. If you’re using it for very light things and maybe crafting I could see it being beneficial. But otherwise look for something else.

I bought this to stick some hue light strips under some cabinets. First issue was it was difficult to cut but I can’t really fault it for thus as that’s not what it’s designed for. I stuck to light stripe left a while then tried to peal the back off and.

almost impossible. what happens in reality is you end up pulling it away from what you want to stick. entually got it off and stuck and think we’ll it it stuck that hard this should be solid. nope, the following morning the light strip was on floor! Total waise of money and surprising as gorilla products are normally really good.

I love this tape. I have tried several other so called tape that is supposed to hold up bricks etc none of them work. Then i bought some gorilla tape as my last try and it was great. I would definately recommend it.

It is quite hard to get the backing paper off but once off great. I even the last time also bought mounting tape squares very handy already cut in squares so no cutting required.

Bought 2 tapes following the great reviews, to stick some light photo frames to the wall. The tape is very good at sticking to fingers, not anything else. From next day photo frames started to drop on the floor one by one.

Terrible tape.

I’ve had this tape sitting around after replacing the adhesive on my pickups bed trim pieces a year ago. I’ve been using it to stick network switches in place in steel enclosures. Read the instructions, clean your surface properly, apply with 15lbs of pressure for 30 seconds, in temperatures above 50F, and it will stick until the sun expands and consumes the earth.

Removal requires a sharpened putty knife and an adhesive remover, because its a permanent solution. Oh, if your surface is painted and the paint falls off where the tape is applied, your paint failed, not the tape.
