20 Best Mini Displayport To Displayport Cable (2023 Updated)

As one of only a select number of VESA certified DP cables, this was quite expensive. However it is of very high quality and runs my monitor at 1440p, 144hz variable refresh rate with no problems whatsoever.

I bought this to replace an HDMI cable, because my PC’s HDMI output was getting very loose and the cable would fall out if bumped. As graphics cards are more expensive than cables, I bought this, and the latches on this cable are an amazing feature, they stop the cable from being tugged away from the port.

Would recommend if you can’t use HDMI, and want to use variable refresh rates at more than 1080p. Or if you want a very high quality cable.

I bought a Benq SW270C monitor for editing and thought I needed to buy this because the monitor didn’t come with one, as many forums and reviewers have said. Surprise, the monitor came with one. *However* this one is far surperior to the one that came with the monitor.

The locking mechanisms are superior on the ends and the connection is more reliable (there was occasionally glitching with the BENQ cable), and I don’t have that problem at all with this cable. I’ve been really happy that I bought this one and kept it instead of trying to return it.

It’s well worth the money for the superior reliability.

Good quality cable 60Hz will work no problem at 1080p and 2k. In 4k I can get between 30-59Hz but sometimes (2-3x a year) I get a black screen I need to unplug and replug the cable. Compared to Primecable these Displayport cables from Startech are way better.

The Lenovo Mini-Display Port-to-Port Display Cables were excellent. They were easy to install to both the monitors and the mini-tower. The length was perfect and didn’t require any additional bundling of the cable to keep excess cable from making a mess of the work station.

Bought cable to use windows 10 at full 4K resolution on my Lenovo T440p laptop. It worked perfectly giving me 4K at 60hz which is the most my graphics could push. Without the cable hdmi would only give me 30hz.

I redid my home office and purchased four of the Monoprice cables on 3/27/20 to run between the Mini DisplayPorts on two Surface Pro docking stations and the DVI ports on an IOGear KVMP Dual Monitor switch (GCS1644).

Within one week, one of the cables went bad (tried swapping cables between docking stations and ports and the one cable always failed). Replaced it with a different cable (old 6′ cable I had laying around) and everything worked fine until today when a second Monoprice cable failed.

Did the same trouble shooting and the problem was resolved when I replaced the Monoprice cable with another spare cable. Going to replace the remaining two Monoprice 3′ cables and the two 6′ (different brand) cables with a different brand of 3′ cables.

I’ve found Monoprice cables very high quality for the price in the past, but this one is different. Constant artifacts when I can even see what it’s supposed to be displaying and digital ‘static’ makes this completely unusable.

Thought I was picking up a decent way to work on my Mac with a larger monitor, but that’s completely out of the question. Add to this the quality of manufacture: The Displayport side feels secure and is nicely molded, but the DVI side seems to click together, clamshell style.

In short, this feels extremely cheap and low-quality and I wouldn’t be surprised if the problems myself and others have described are due to poor connections in this piece. The DVI screws rattle around in the housing, and the housing itself is large enough to be difficult to connect, even when there’s a decent amount of room behind a monitor.

Overall, I’d have to say: Good luck gambling, but be aware that even if it works, the DVI connecter is physically large.

Your new ultra-thin ultra-light laptop probably won’t have a VGA port. Instead, everyone in the biz is rushing to the mini-DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port. Problem is, most of the conference rooms, offices and other places you’ll be taking your laptop still have projectors with VGA ports.

They didn’t all disappear overnight, you know! This Monoprice cable rises to the challenge without adapters and extra cables and does it at a price that makes you wonder how they stay in business. It’s a direct connection between technology that literally spans centuries.

Don’t let the light weight fool you. I had a few concerns when I connected my MacBook Pro to the VGA wall jack in our church. Lightweight cables are notorious for dropping signal, especially over a 15 foot run.

At first, the image appeared on only one of the two screens, but after a reboot during which the gear could get to know each other better, everything fell into place. Cable came sealed and new with Lenovo documentation. Working fine. Connectors are good but cable itself could have been a bit thicker for a Lenovo product (doesn’t affect function but maybe longevity if using it on the go).

It worked perfectly to connect Macbook Pro 15 Retina 2014 to Dell 2715Q. I got 4K 60Hz without any tweaks or adjustments. Considering that many reviewers had problems getting 4K resolution from the same model of MBP I am happy with this purchase.

Cable is sufficiently flexible which is important for 3 feet long cable. Surprisingly number of choices for min DP to mini DP cable is really small but this one worked fine for me so I cannot complain.

Works fine between Macbook Air andDell Ultra HD 4k Monitor P2715Q 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor. Full-resolution, 60 Hz. Can’t speak to longevity; replaced the MBA with a new TB3 MBP after a few months.

I bought this cable specifically to connect up an old iMac as a second monitor and it worked flawlessly. I’ve used quite a few StarTech products over the years and they have generally been a great value for the money.

I will be returning this adapter as it does not function at 4k2k (3840×2160) 60hz. I have this adapter coming out of my thinkpad dock, going through a miniDP to HDMI 2. 0 adapter which worked when connected through my laptop, however, 60 hz is not working when I have this adapter in line.

That said, it does have a consistent signal. I have had no issues with signal cutting out or anything of the like. I purchased a gofanco adapter that works at 60hz, however, with that, I have an issue where the signal cuts out momentarily.

Who knew it could be so hard to get an adapter that “just works”.

Neither the cinema display nor the laptop recognized a device at the other end when connected. Disconnected and reconnected a dozen times. No responses from either device. Reloaded Intel drivers – zip.

Called up my tech support, they couldnt get it to work. Plugged a mac in, without the adapter and screen came instantly to life. Determination – adapter is junk. Could be my bad luck but I wouldnt get this if I were you.

It’s a cable. It did however work in my application (ASUS laptop connected to HP Thunderbolt hub)

This is the third cable I’ve purchased for use with the Surface Pro 4, in an attempt to get 4K @ 60Hz from the Surface Dock out to a Yamakasi M280PU monitor. First, I used the cable that came with the monitor and this mini DP to DP adapter (Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt™ 2 Port Compatible) to DisplayPort Male to Female Adapter in Black – 4K Resolution Ready ) which did not work, then I tried this cable (Mini DP to DP Cable, Rankie 6FT Gold Plated Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable 4K Resolution Ready (Black) – R1105 ) – which other said worked with the Surface Pro 4, but it didn’t claim to be 1.

2, so it must have not been up to spec, because it didn’t work. Both of those options would send video from the SP4’s mini DP port to the DP port of the monitor, but there was an incredibly annoying flicker, along with image degradation every 7 seconds or so.

Finally, I ended up buying this cable, because it specifically stated that it was DP 1. 2, with a rating of 21. 6 Gbps, which is almost twice what the other cable advertised. I figured if they were going to advertise a speed like that, this must actually be a real DP 1.

2 cable. Sure enough, this cable worked flawlessly from the SP4’s mini DP to the M280PU’s DP, at 4K 60Hz with no flicker – just perfect picture. It took a ridiculous effort of plugging / unplugging random things to get it to send a video signal from the Surface Dock, but eventually I got it to work.

I don’t know if it will continue to work, but at that point, it will be the fault of the Surface Dock, not this cable. In short – spend the money on this genuine cable instead of wasting massive hours on other products that might work, but definitely won’t be guaranteed hassle-free.

I have an older DP to DP cable from Monoprice that drives my 2016 Dell 27-inch display at its full 2560×1440 resolution from a GTX 980 with zero problems. I had to switch to the display’s mDP input because another computer is now using the DP, so I purchased the 15-foot version of this cable.

I noticed immediately that these cables are much thinner, but they are all supposed to handle 4K, so I hooked things up. First boot, and the display said there was no signal on mDP. Next boot remained blank until the Windows login, and the resolution had dropped to 1080p.

Attempting to adjust things showed that I could only get up to 1200p. I’d had the 10-foot version on order, and it arrived in the interim, so I tried that as well. Same result. Luckily, I had grabbed a high-speed 10-foot HDMI cable in a previous order, and gave it a try instead.

Boom, full resolution, zero problems. Maybe the 6-foot and shorter versions of this cable can handle 4K. Sadly, my longer runs could not.

This cable was extremely shoddy, at least for me. My graphics card is the PNY GTX 970, which has only mini displayport, DVI, and HDMI. I got this cable to drive the 4K (3840 x 2160) Samsung U28D590D.

Both GPU and display use displayport 1. 2, as this cable is supposed to. This cable absolutely will not drive that monitor at 60Hz, in any resolution. What I got instead of proper functioning was 1) weird flickering (the monitor would turn off and on), 2) the monitor would jump wildly between resolutions due to the poor signal, 3) bands of film grain would randomly appear and disappear all over the screen.

Interestingly, my housemate’s Macbook drove the monitor through this cable decently well, although still with the bands of film grain — probably this has to do with the capacitance in his laptop’s port vs my video card.

I replaced this cable with the one here:Accell B143B-007J UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1. 2 Cable with Latch, White, 6. 6-Feet and my 4K display has functioned perfectly well ever since.

Mice condition cables. Delivery faster than expected. These nice cables go between my 2011 iMac and two 2009 iMacs. TDM or Target Display Mode not working yet as expected. Should work says Google searches on Internet.

Bought two of these currently for my new BenQ 3201PT 4 K monitor. Runs 4K at 60hz on Win 10 flawlessly. I live in Australia and for the listed price I didn’t expect much. Then the cables turned up and I was impressed in the quality.

I bought this to replace the miniDVI to DVI cable that came with my Dell external monitor which I’ve had lots of trouble with connecting to my mac. My screen used to black out and flicker all the time and all that’s gone with this cable.

I think next time I would go for the 6ft cable since i underestimated how much length i need. 3ft is barely enough even though my laptop and screen are right next to each other. Thank you monoprice for offering good quality cables for an affordable price.

I am using the cable to connect my Mac to a 4K/60Hz display DP port. I was looking for an HDMI to DP cable, but that is not possible – it requires electronics. The electronics adapters cost a lot, most of them cannot do 60Hz.

And the ones which can do 60Hz, all have negative reviews (flickering, unstable). This cable is much cheaper and stable.

There are compatibility issue with AMD Radeon 7750 card but this is not the cable’s fault. Wakes up from S3 sleep state work 90% of the time. Wakes from monitor power saver mode works 0% of the time.

Again, not the cable fault since this isn’t an issue with Intel HD Graphic. This is a very common complain I read about this cable but I strongly believe it’s your graphic card to fault for not sending correct handshake signal.

So that being said, all ATI users need take what I said into strong consideration before making the purchase!!! This issue wasted 2 months of my life trying to figure out the solution. The only solution I found is to buy a regular Nippon 15ft 28awg DP-DP cable then using the included ATI DP to MDP converter, that’s the only solution I got it to work.

I’ve tried all the DP to MDP cable, nothing works. Again, it’s ATI for not implementing the DP spec. What’s worst is sometimes the handshake doesn’t go through properly so you’ll end with wake up, power saver, and even reboot issues too!.

This cable is nice and long and a good bargain compared to others. It is fragile, though, in the connectors, especially the big connector with the latch. Don’t expect to be able to put lateral pressure on the connector while it’s in the monitor and have it hold out.

And if it’s the release mechanism that breaks, you might find it terribly hard to get out of the monitor! But for the price, you are getting a nice long cable that seems to work fine as long as it doesn’t get abused.

I have a six port display card that only has mini DisplayPort sockets, and I’d much rather use one of these cables that a bunch of adapters connected to regular cables.

I bought a (very nice) 4k monitor from “a big online, 2nd day” outfit which is popular fir so many things. So I get their branded “essentials” cable to go with it. Finicky connections – simply adjusting height of monitor would cut out connection.

Got tired of giggling it incessantly. I should have just gotten cables from Monoprice to begin with. Not a single problem in use. As I’d expect.

Received the Cable and it looked good initially. After being connected for a few hours, the cable lost connectivity. Replacing the cable with a spare purchased at the same time restored connectivity and is working fine since.

Have returned and requested a replacement. Hopefully this is a fluke.

I bought this to connect an old zip drive to my current computer. Due to the connection screws being the same as the device port, you can’t connect the parallel port end of the cable directly into the device.

I ended up connecting it to the original zip cable, which basically acted like an extension cord. This would have been all fine, except after hooking everything up, the computer won’t recognize the device as an external drive.

In short, it was a complete and total waste of money, unless someone knows how to get a Windows 10 PC to recognize a Zip 100 drive connected to a USB port.

Not much to add really. SFF PC also from PBTech has a Displayport out, and monitor has 2x HDMI in. Sound works too, when I plug the HDMI end into a TV

Images go from one place to another, it’s magic! The thinness of the cable is great for cable channels in my monitor arm.

I originally had my Mac Mini 2015 connected to one monitor using the native HDMI out, and another using a thunderbolt (mini display port) to HDMI cable. I could not enable 144hz for either cable, it just wasn’t an option.

What was worse though, was that whenever I switched inputs on one of my monitors (for my other PC), my mac mini would constantly freeze for 1-2 seconds, every 4-5 seconds. The mouse would just pause in the middle of screen and it was extremely frustrating unless I actually turned the display off in the Display Prefences on OSX.

These displayport cables not only fixed my freezing issue, but also allows me to use 144hz.

Verified it works for HDR10 display @ 4K 60hz . It should be a DisplayPort 1.4 cable according to the standards. Good value.

I use this cable to connect my iMac to Dell U2720Q. It works as advertised.
