20 Best Medicine For Cough For Kids (2023 Updated)

Thank you @Influenster for sending this to my family to test out!! 🙌🏻 This arrived just in time as my little girl came down with a nasty bug from school last week causing her to have a sore throat and cough.

We immediately started trying this at night and it works wonders to help sooth her throat, calms the cough and helps her sleep better. I noticed that without this syrup she would wake up during the night complaining of her throat / coughing, from the first night we tried this she has slept like a rock felt a lot better upon waking up in the morning.

Only downside is this dose NOT taste good at all, I know it’s supposed to taste like grape but it dose not, not at all. I wish they had just made it honey flavored. Even though my girl didn’t like the flavor she had no issue taking it since after that first night she slept better and her throat felt better too, so she could tell it was working.

She would even ask for this syrup if she saw that I was reaching for our old standby nighttime syrup out of habit. I will no longer be buying anything other than this cough syrup, it is just that good.

Also this is super super thick, like cold molasses thick. So I recommend using a large spoon to give it to the child or if they aren’t happy with the taste to mix it with a little warm water a little extra honey to make a “tea” and give it that way.

I found this way to be best as I was already giving her vitamin c powder tonic water (a good source of quinine which helps to fight the CV) mixed with warm water, so mixing this in with everything else worked great for us helped to defuse the bad taste enough so that she didn’t mind it so much.

I’m super happy that it’s all natural and has no bad junk in it, just good natural stuff to help build her immune system up to fight the cold. Usually I find that the majority of natural cough syrups only work for an hour or so then it’s back to square one, with this cough syrup I found that it worked very well lasted all night which makes me one happy mama! Yes, I would highly recommend this to everyone who has children.

Even if they aren’t sick now go ahead and grab a few bottles of this because it has been a total game changer for my family and I will be buying only this from now on because of how well it worked for my girl.

First I cannot rave enough about how Great of a natural brand Burts Bees is. I love how Burt’s bee’s daytime cough syrup and immune support is gentle enough for children 1+ and has Manuka Honey that should be effective too as a natural cough suppressant.

Please make sure your child/baby can consume honest first though! Even if you look up remedies from back when Honey was always included and treated for cough, sore throat and lots of other yucky symptoms.

I was very happy and thankful for Burt’s Bee’s and Influenster for sending this to me free for my honest review because I don’t we would put it to good use especially around this time of year my kid’s sinuses start going crazy and their immune system starts changing with the weather allowing colds and viral germs in.

I’ve tried plenty of cough and cold medicines from this brand and my kids would actually take it without putting up a fuss. This medicine is grape flavored but does not have an over whelming medicine flavor to it and it is very thick which to me means it should work better.

? My theory anyways. I would definitely recommend this to any mother who has sick babies with a minor cough or cold. (That does not have an allergy to honey that is!!).

This product was given to me complimentary by Influenster in exchange for my honest opinion I received Burts Bees Daytime cough Syrup in the natural grape flavor made with 100% Manuka Honey. The cough syrup actually came right on time.

My daughter has been struggling with a sore throat for a couple of days and was in need of some relief. The cough syrup was easy to administer. The honey flavor was palatable to my daughter. She said she preferred the taste of this syrup more than other flavors she’s had.

I gave my daughter a dose this morning. When she came home she was bubbly and energetic. She was so happy because her throat did not feel “stringy” today. I was excited because she couldnt wait to take the next dose.

They love the taste they don’t fight me to take it and it’s quick acting. My 11-year-old daughter just caught a cold a couple of days ago and the Children’s Robitussin Cough & Cold worked wonderfully for her.

I have never been one to take cough syrup because the taste usually makes it hard to get it down. I have to say that Robitussin sure did good masking the taste of the New Robitussin Maximum Strength Severe Multi-Symptom Cough Cold + Flu Non-Drowsy Liquid.

The taste was a cherry flavor and was so much better than the past Robitussin cough syrup I have tried. I also discovered that it lasted longer than other brands. Robitussin kept me awake and alert all day and that’s exactly what anyone should expect from a Non-Drowsy cough syrup.

I buy this for my kid when sick but I also use it myself and find it is very subtle but it works really well. I never touch the over-the-counter stuff which makes me feel dizzy and drugged while this stuff clears up my head and relieves a lot (not all) of the sinus pressure.

Plus I really like how it tastes. I never expected it to taste good but it does. My kid doesn’t even mind taking it.

This homeo medicine is the best choice for the kids when they have cough cold. I love this medicine when my kids are sick as it is natural. I give them this everytime they are sick and relieves their symptoms and they like the taste of it.

I purchased this as a help aid for my 2. 6-year-old live-in grandson who is extremely hyperactive, emotional, anxious, with a history of nightmares. I noticed almost immediately the calming effect and that he was able to relax, express himself more positively, and seemed more focused.

It did not help him cooperate for naps, but it does help him to quickly fall asleep at bedtime. I was slightly upset because it did nothing at all for his hyperactivity! So, if your child is moderately to extremely hyper do not expect this product to help in that area.

It is a clear liquid and it tastes okay (I tasted it). It comes with a dosage cap, a dropper would be better. It is recommended that you administer it 3 times-a-day and decrease as you see improvement.

Overall the product is great and does what it claims, however, it does not handle extreme hyperactivity.

I LOVE this stuff! I have a 1 year old son and he recently had a terrible cold and an even worse cough that lasted for what seemed like forever. He’s too young to be able to take cough syrup and Ibuprofen/Tylenol just wasn’t cutting it; the poor guy was being woken up from coughing almost every hour on his worst night! To my surprise, I was wrong! This cough syrup seemed to soothe his cough and breathing and provided him with enough relief to sleep through at least half the night. This quickly became something I will make sure I have on hand until he’s too old for it and I have already recommended it to friends!.

I absolutely positively love the hylands brand. I have used this for every single one of my children. They’re fairly cheap, they cost Pennies on the dollar. Super effective. And homeopathic. I will always buy this brand and I recommend to everyone! I don’t like to use medicine unless absolutely necessary, if I do have to for colic or teething or gas, or the calms forte.

This brand make me feel a little better about using it.

My daughter that is 3. 5 years old actually is having a cold so she needs some medication for a relief. I do not like to use antibiotics when it is not necessary, so homeopathic stuff are always welcome.

Bought for my 5 yr olds cough and nasal congestion. It did absolutely nothing for him. I think it made him worse, actually. Very upsetting. Will not buy again and don’t recommend to anyone. Not sure if it works on some kids and not everyone.

But I feel like some of these comments are false and made up. Save your money and buy something else.

My children both had uncomplicated bronchitis and we needed something to help ease the cough after nothing else was helping. We tried this and I regret it. It was completely ineffective with both of them.

To make things worse it caused my older daughter to become pale and minimally responsive, we took her in and she was fine but because it was extended release it took her a while to come out of it. We confirmed she was given the proper dosage, on the low end of her weight category.

It was very concerning, and just made the fact that it was completely ineffective that much worse. I would not reccomend trying with children.

My 5 year old had a terrible cough. I was giving him Children’s Mucinex Cough for almost a week straight and it wasn’t helping. He got to the point where he couldn’t stop coughing, it was non stop. I gave him a dose of Children’s Delsym Grape flavor right before bed, the next day he had hardly coughed the entire day, a couple coughs here and there.

Repeated it again that night right before bed, the following day, cough is gone! Highly recommend!! We will be keeping this on hand!.

I wish I would’ve read all the reviews before buying. Definitely does not work. My son has a terrible cough, I was hoping he would be able to sleep better with this Medicine but he continues to struggle.

I usually go for Mucinex but unfortunately the store was out, so after seeing the other products I decided to go with this one and because of its high price thought it would be better. Wrong choice. Save your money people!.

This product has really helped with my littles getting some relief at night–at least enough to sleep better. I notice a difference immediately after giving this. We all get a bit more sleep. It’s so hard to see your kids suffering with cold and flu symptoms.

But I also don’t want to give them harmful over the counter products. This is a great middle ground. It’s effective enough to be worth giving, but is natural and had no adverse side effects.

There are definitely other choices that can be made for overall effectiveness but when your baby is very young you want to make sure you’re keeping everything as natural as you can. Hyland’s provides some relief but overall it’s not as effective as other things you can use.

This is the product we used when my daughter was not old enough to have other types of cold medicine due to her age. I feel like it helped her when she did not feel great. I do not think it does as good of a job as actual cold medicine, but it is a nice alternative.

She came down with a cough that was keeping her up at night. The normal cough syrup she would take when getting this cough, had run out. Then, I remembered I had the Burt Bees nighttime cough syrup. I was very optimistic to try it with the ingredients it contained along with the honey.

As I gave it to her, she gagged over and over again almost causing herself to vomit. She was making the squeamish face letting me know this syrup tasted horrible. After finally getting her to calm down and to sleep, I would see if the battle was worth it.

The Burts Bees nighttime cough syrup did suppress her cough for a good 3 hours. She was able to rest and not cough even once. Around the 3 hour mark, the coughing started. Slowly at first and then more consistent.

This is a brand I have trusted and liked for a long time now, but I’m not sure the battle was worth only 3 hours. I’m not sure if I would recommend this or not. Maybe for kids a little older, but the taste seemed to be too much for my little one.

If there were different flavors available, I would be willing to give those a try.

I received a complimentary bottle of Burts Bees Kids Nighttime Cough Syrup, which can also be used as a supplement for immune support. I was pleased to see there were no hormones, it’s non-gmo, no synthetic ingredients, no artificial sweeteners, and no preservatives.

I also liked that it had a base of honey, which was apparent in the consistency when poured. However, I was only able to try this product for one dose because my daughter did not like the natural grape taste at all.

She took a little sip and couldn’t finish the serving. Unfortunately if I cannot get her to consume it, I can’t rate it very high. I had a taste, myself, and it tasted more like fermented grape to me.

I never, ever ever write reviews. This is liquid gold. I thought it was a fluke and my daughter was feeling better so I stopped giving it to her, but that night she started coughing up a storm again, unable to sleep from mucus and congestion.

Within 15 min of giving it to her she was asleep—no coughing no wake ups. Where have you been all my parenting life?! A game changer for little kid sickness. And natural?!! I mean, come on! Please never discontinue, but notify me first if you do, and I’ll buy the lot.

(I called my doctor before giving it to her to look up the product and it was approved as something we could try— FYI).

This is the only medication I trust to give my kids. My daughter was at the point where her doc prescribed an inhaler because she could not breath at night. I was mortified into giving her steroids. So I bought this and I SWEAR! She was able to breath after taking it.

(A couple hours of course).

This worked well helping with congestion and controlling cough. Both children took it without much complaint, not great tasting but much better than sudafed which is thick and makes our one child gag.

4yr old had a bad cough and slight runny nose. Used this for two days, every four hours** and now he’s finally better thankfully ! I definitely believe making sure you’re taking it every four hours/ twice a day is important ! The taste to my son was VERY BAD, first time he spit it out, second time took a lot of convincing & bribery lol.

After that, it got better the next times cause he would hold his nose while drinking it so definitely recommend holding their nose!.

I have to bribe with gummy bears or ice cream and she still doesn’t want to take it. I believe the medicine works However this is the only medication my 5 year old gags when taking. If it tasted better this would be awesome.

I have noticed less coughing with this brand and it’s a good substitute if you want something natural. The taste and smell on the other hand aren’t appealing but if it works, it shouldn’t matter.

Are use this Highlands for kids cough and cold medicine when they have a cough runny nose sneezing sore throat. The one thing that I would improve in this product is to make the taste better so when the kids do have to take it you don’t have to fight with them to take it they’ll take it if it taste better than what it is.

Kiddo has terrible cough and pediatrician recommended another OTC medication which I originally bought trusting the doctor. Kiddo hasn’t sleep sleeping well even though the coughing was ok with the other med.

Not sure why I grabbed the bottle and started reading and paused. The key ingredient to help child sleep is melatonin which my son doesn’t respond well to! Annoyed I started doing research. I’d used Hyland for medios for a terrible infection years ago and decided to check what they had for kids.
