20 Best Magic The Gathering Starter Deck (2023 Updated)

Great way for two people with no prior knowledge of Magic: The Gathering to start playing! The instructions stepped us through a game with very few hiccups. We didn’t realize that it’s *not* a good way for multiple people to play – it’s a two-person game.

We ended up going out the next day and getting the ‘Game Night’ version at a local store.

Me and my wife just got into magic after many years and this was a great way to start. We are building our own decks now from bulk and rares we buy here and there but the spellslinger dual decks was really a great way to kick it off! Super fun, convenient, easy to learn.

Would reccomend to any beginner or as a gift!.

Packaging isn’t the best but the cards are decent, have some synergy and are fun to play against each other, both have a guidebook to help teach a starting player and friend. 5 rares in each deck along with some uncommons.

Pretty cute. Got them just for fun so I’m not worried about the text being small. You’re getting miniature trading cards, of course they’re small! I haven’t used them to actually play the game due to their size, but they’re a fun collectable to have around!.

This was something I had to have. Recently I decided to get back into collecting MTG as I always loved the art. My 8yr old seen some and really liked them as well so when I seen these I had to get some for her to play with her dolls and I’ll be getting a couple to hold back.

These mini cards are neat. Had fun going through them. Looks like they will last if played. Includes a banned artist, not sure how long they will be for sale or if they will see more prints.

Another classically fun and funny “Un” set. Pick two colors and shuffle them together. Your friend picks two colors from the remaining 3 and shuffles them together, and off you go. Keep in mind these are not booster packs to use in your regular, sanctioned decks (hence the name “unsanctioned”).

These are for casual play or in an “un” tournament with cards from Unstable, Unhinged and/or Unglued. For a wacky, fun time you can add them to your Commander deck or Cube. Plus, the 10 full art lands are beautiful.

The box says Magic the Gathering, so I was expecting to be able to add 150 cards to my MTG collection. But all non-land cards are not tournament legal. No where on the box does it say that, not on the page description.

There are printing errors on some of the cards that make them completely unusable. There’s also a card that requires you to roll a d20, but no d20 is included. And now that it’s open, I can’t return it.

You could buy all five new planeswalker decks for the same price. Or a real board game. Worthless.

This is a great fun game for two people, simple to learn and different every time depending on the deck choices. I would recommend it to anyone.

This game is an adaptation of the MAGIC THE GATHERING universe to a duel miniature game, where you choose a wizard/mage from one element and fight your path to beat the enemy game. This game uses the basic mechanics of former HEROSCAPE boardgame, with the adaptation enough to give the summon creatures and spell feeling from magic the gathering.

Game components are ok, miniatures come in different colors depending on the faction but not very detailed in comparison to others in the game genre. Tiles are great and could be used for other games as terrain.

Cards are good cardboard. custom dice makes a good difference for this game. Mages miniature are the most detailed but not at top with some translucent parts. If you are a magic the gathering player, you could be dissapointed with the gaming experience that is low challenging, but very magic flavored.

could be feel like an introduction to boardgames and miniature wargaming. I dont recomend this game for Hardcore wargames players, not for Magic the gathering players, the game experience and the quality of the miniatures could dissapoint you.

I recommend this for magic the gathering casual players, boardgamers that want to jump on miniatures or for young and kids, this game challenge could be great to introduce kids from 6+ to the gaming and have some MTG feeling of the lore.

I am a newbie to the world of Magic: The Gathering. i purchased this deck builder’s toolkit in-store. i recieved a Pact of Negation card from the Masterpiece Series: Amonkhet Invocations. This card is worth $60.

Absolutely live the new themes, there are for factions and incredible new deck possibilities. The artwork is stunning and the Ixalan theme is very original.

If you really want the ten boosters then this bundle is an okay value, depending of course on what you are paying for packs usually. This was an impulse buy for me, and I really should have just bought the basic lands and singles at my local game store.

This is a reasonably cheap way to get packs, and the basic lands are nice, but none of them are full art or foil anything special. I regret the purchase. If you are wanting packs of Ixalan and don’t want to go all in on a booster box, then this is likely a 4 star purchase for you, I just made a mistake.

Standard Fat Pack, with an additional booster back, compared to the older versions. Unfortunately they’ve chosen the spindown die to be standard variety as well, which is unfortunate, but not a big deal.

Great crazy “game in a box” version of MtG. Only complaint is the amount of reprints from the previous “un” set

I’m coming from the perspective of a casual player who doesn’t collect cards or play tournaments or try to profit off re-sale – I just occasionally play a game with the spouse. There are a couple of reasons this gets 4 instead of 5 stars, mostly having to do with the fact that this isn’t a good introduction to the game: 1.

The quick start guide is more of a glossary. It doesn’t go over the rules hardly at all, and if you don’t know how to play the game then the glossary of terms isn’t useful and if you do know how to play the game then you really don’t need a glossary.

2. The cards are probably a little complicated for new players. But especially without a basic rule book. A new person isn’t going to pick up these cards and know what it all means. 3. It doesn’t come with the basics you need to play the game.

Two spin-down d20s would be a minimum, but if you don’t already have what you need to play the game you won’t get it in this set. I guess as far as I can figure if you are looking to get into Arena, this is a good way to get a couple starter decks, although I’m pretty sure you get several started decks just for signing up for Arena.

So I’m not really sure who this is meant to appeal to? I liked it because I am done building decks and just want to buy pre-made ones, and I am experienced. If you’re like me, you may enjoy this. If not at least consider what I said above.

The value is pretty good compared to what it would normally cost to get these same cards, but they used to release cheaper sets that had more in them like spindown/health dice so that was a little disappointing.

Overall, still a decent deal though. You get two, dual-color decks to play with and a code to go online and use those cards in Arena. There are two deck boxes as well. You also get a quick-start guide that is more of a glossary of terms than anything else.

I am more of a physical card sort of person, but my oldest son likes that he can play MTG Arena on his phone. These decks seem to be just what I would have expected from Spellslinger-Type decks, but with the added bonus that you get a code that two people can use in MTGA in order to unlock the cards in the deck.

For the moment, the cards are in standard, though it is hard to say which ones might survive rotation. For someone who is relatively new to Arena, this code could be a nice boost, in that way that you get these cards to use in other decks you construct as well.

It is enough cards in one go that for this kind of money having physical decks you can use to help someone learn the game as well as a bump to your card collection for those in the early stages of Arena is a great deal.

If you only want one thing or the other, then it may not be worth going after.

I send the product to my son and he said is a very entertaining game to play among friends.

I have now played against this deck and can confirm it is green/blue but behaves rather more blue than green. Will appeal to sneaky blue players who enjoy shutting down their opponents with instants and dispels.

Some surprising combos in there. Never trust a blue player with unspent mana at the end of their go. They are up to something.

The 2020 challenger decks are awesome. Challenger decks can be hit and miss in terms of card value and how functional the decks are. But the 2020 set are right on the mark in both cases. 3 of the 4 decks were competitive straight out of the box, and the 4th deck while needing work, comes with on of the best commander cards ever printed! Totally worth the money for the set.

Product: The challenger decks are fun and they’re a great way to get a jumpstart into the game of Magic. These decks provide a little stronger and more consistent gameplay than other products such as duel decks.

I’d recommend doing a bit more research if keeping up with standard and FNM is what you have in mind, though. The Collector Store: These guys are great. I’ve received fast shipping from them consistently and everything I’ve ordered has arrived safely.

I’ve never had the need to contact them, so I can’t really speak to the customer service beyond what I’ve said above.

Great service…if I could give 4.9 stars I would. As Ive stated nothing is perfect. But this had the best prices, and quick shipping. Nothing was damaged so all was great.

Bought this as a present for our grandson for his birthday – the only thing he requested from us. The box contains separate packs of cards, which he excitedly opened and showed us the “special” cards he was finding in each.

The outer box is colorful and sturdy.

This product is pretty good if you’re just starting out. I paid 25 for it and trust me it’s worth it. I don’t recommend if you’re gonna stop playing in 2 days but if you’re gonna stick with it and play then buy this product!.

3-Colored Commander decks are challenging but fun to work with. These decks offer a nice range in play styles and a great starting point to reconstruct into a far more effective deck. I have enjoyed the evolution deck as I find it a fun mechanic to work with, though the others are not bad as well.

I’m newer to magic and have been buying some precon decks to play with friends. I like this one though I feel it needs a couple small changes to make it more consistent. For instance, the commander requires creatures to be in the graveyard, as such it needs better ways to do that but also to bring some back to your hand or the battlefield so that you don’t get stuck.

I preferred using the partner commanders as they allowed for more card draw and voltron though that might be my playstyle.

I found this deck to not be as expected, it has some impressive cards inside and they compliment the overall flavour well. But. I feel the deck needs adjusting. The idea is solid and with a few tweaks this deck will be savage.

Do not be put off by it. A couple of tweaks and it could be incredibly powerful. BLUE Red has always been a fun deck for Friday night magic, casual play.

From time of order to time of arrival, the time seem as if it was folded on itself. What is normally a week or 2 for most became mere days for unplugged gaming to get this to me. The packaging was that of fairies.

Placed delicately and hugged as if a new born baby by great amounts of packaging paper and bubble wrap. Almost hurt me to cut off the wizards seal packaging after all the work their faires did to protect it.

But cut it I did. Every pack was in immaculate condition. They may be unplugged gaming but they are connected in how to ship properly and rapidly. Always put your trust in a backwards name for they do things right.

Will be ordering again when supplies replenish.

JumpStart is easily one of better format for beginning and casual players. Just slap two packs together and create unique and fun combos. There are some strong chase cards in the set as well. Great price for a booster box and shipping was quick!.

Jumpstart is a fun set to start teaching beginners how to play the game. The range of pack themes is adequate to introduce a lot of play styles to a group of novices so that they can understand more mechanics in a short time.

More targeted to beginners than experienced players, but is a fun casual format for even experienced players to jump into.

Magic: The Gathering – Warhammer 40k Commander Deck (set of 4)

Great value in this product! So many fun and exciting ways to play again and again this game! Even the coven mechanic stands up In casual games! But the real power is taking apart the humans deck and rebuilding it! The zombies deck is good that is most useful as a shambling corpse of the good cards to add to your existing zombie deck!I would recommend taking the decks against each other for a bit first and enjoy the classic battle of zombies versus humans!.

The Innistrad Midnight Hunt Commander decks are by far the best pre-constructed sets that Wizards of the Coast have produced in recent years. There are some great old cards mixed in with some spicy new stuff to make the play experience one to remember.

The decks play really well against each other and can even hold their own against more powerful Commander decks at a multiplayer table. Highly recommended for those looking to get into Commander, or for those simply wanting to add a new deck to their repertoire.

Finally, a reliable, customer service oriented store dealing in Magic: The Gathering products that doesn’t price gouge and often sells for less than MSRP. I’m just getting back into MTG and wanted at least two of the value packed Commander 2017 decks.

Since these decks were released a few months ago, finding any single deck for MSRP was a near impossibility. but here I could buy all four for MSRP at about the same cost of buying any two at other stores.

I’m often a customer of TCGplayer. There’s downsides where I’ve ants in my pants for a week waiting for my products, and there’s upsides, where I can trust the judgment of the quality of products. However, The Collector Store is arguably better.

There’s satisfying updates through email of the location, process, and estimated time of the entire shipment. There’s nice packaging protection in the box. The free shipping only took 3 days after clicking the button on the website.

Despite my worries of allowing another site access to my credit card, and not considering the lack of judgment in the quality of the product as they are in sealed boxes, I enjoyed my experience with The Collector Store.
