I purchased the HP 9025e to replace a HP 7520 that had finally wore out after more than 8 years of service. It was a great All-in-One printer. From a quality standpoint, the 9025e does an acceptable job of all it’s many functions although print quality isn’t as good as I had hoped.

The scanning software, “HP Smart”, is awkward because it requires an internet connection to do simple scans, plus, it is not as flexible as I had with my HP7520. It seems to me that HP tried to make the process more simple and automatic, but for experienced users it is a step backward in my opinion.

Still, scan quality is quite good. The LCD screen on the front panel is too small, making it difficult to read and very frustrating to use. But, it gets the job done. I like having two drawers to accommodate different kinds of paper or envelopes and etc.

However, I am not fond of how the “HP Smart” takes charge in order to use this and other printing functions. Lots of hoops to jump through, but, again it gets the job done. Setting up the HP+ Instant Ink account was quite time consuming and frustrating.

I like the concept and for me I believe it will be much more cost effective. After I finally got the account and everything set up, it has been working well, so long as my Internet connection is working.

You must have constant Internet Connection to use the Instant Ink program. I am well pleased with the printing speed. I just wish the print quality was better. Even on the “Best” setting, text is not as sharp and crisp as I think it should be for a printer in this price range.

And, I am using HP paper, so HP can’t blame it on my paper choice! Build quality is so-so and yet to be determined over time. The top document/scan cover is too floppy. It needs some tension springs, in my opinion, to prevent it smashing down on the document glass.

Overall, the HP9025e will serve my purposes and that’s what counts.

This printer is junk, and in no way is it a replacement for the old HP 8600. I had my 8600 for over a decade. I returned the 9025 after 48 hours. The whole new line from HP (8025, 8035, 9015, 9025) feels incredibly flimsy.

Even the new square corners look much more breakable than rounded corners of the older models. My old 8600 Pro had two interchangeable, robust paper trays, each capable of handling up to 250 sheets. The 9025 has one paper tray that takes up to 225 sheets and labeled “for plain paper only”.

The second tray says it can handle 60 sheets. It has no mechanism to hold the sheets in place, and probably works only with stiffer photo papers. Amazingly, the tray that receives printed pages does not allow then to lie flat.

The automatic document feeder says can hold 35 sheets, but looks like it would take closer to 15. (The 8600 could handle 50. ) Most astounding of all, I when began to follow the instructions for downloading the printer software and clicked on “install on my computer”, I immediately got a “not found” error from the HP web site.

When I called HP, the technician connected to my computer but was unable to install the software after AN HOUR of trying. (I am running a perfectly ordinary Windows 10 PC. ) I returned the printer the next day.

Very fast and very accurate, it handles just about everything we throw at it. Whether printing when directly connected, over my home network or even from a mobile device, the printer has been amazing.

Setup was super easy, just unbox and plug in, connect to your network with either LAN or WiFi and you’re good to go. I love the squared off, monolithic design. And this machine is big, so make sure you have enough space, especially height if you’re placing on a desk with a shelf above.

You’ll need plenty of room to raise the scanner lid. I love the paper capacity of 500 sheets, just put a full ream of paper inside and forget about needing to refill paper for a long time. We also subscribed to HP+ Instant Ink.

What a great feature to make sure you never run out of ink. You get 6 months free, and then you can tailor the program to your printing needs, based on the number of pages you print a month and what type of printing you normally do.

And you can always change the program at any time, if you find out your using too much or not enough under the current plan. And if you need to one off a set of ink, you can do that too. Set up was super easy through the HP Smart app.

Just connect the app to your device and run through the subscription process. We’ve not needed a refill of ink yet, but I’ve already been sent an update from HP that my first refill package will be arriving soon.

So nice to know that I never have to worry about what my ink levels are before I start a large printing job. When needed, HP will make sure we have ink on hand, all the time. Pros: • Super large capacity – 500 sheets in only two trays • Fast – insanely fast B/W printing even at high quality, and color printing is also super fast with pretty good color accuracy • Network connection was super simple and reconnects automatically if the network goes down, easy to print from any device throughout the house, or even on mobile • Touch screen display and menu options are wonderful, super bright and colorful and touch sensitivity is great, easy to use • Scanner is super accurate and super fast, whether using the flatbed or the document feeder • Ability to connect local network storage or connect a cloud service like Dropbox to store your print copies to the cloud Cons: • Color printing is pretty accurate, but I do wish colors were a little more vibrant • Not good as a photo printer, but that’s also not its use case really.

If you want to print dedicated photos, stick with a dedicated photo printer. Image prints are fine for school or business use, but not keepsake quality • Large, make sure you have enough space for it to operate normally • Paper catch tray does not engage automatically, its manual open only • I would have liked it to be quieter, it is fairly quiet when printing, but I was hoping for even quieter Overall, for home or small business, this printer fits the bill for sure.

We love it already and are looking to get years of use out of it, never once worrying about ink!!!.

operation is clunky is loud, print quality is fine. software is a patch work landscape of mix and match programs and web browsers. difficult to navigate and settings often dont stick. shortcut functionality promises opportunities to improve productivity, but in reality doesnt work consistently as it routes everything through an external server and has limited config options.

e. g when operating a shortcut you have to change from letter to A4 everytime you use it. HP phone support is non existent. no support offered and no call backs. this is my 4th HP printer, time to try something different.

I’ve had several HP printers, and while they’re fairly intuitive to set up and use on a regular basis, I will be trying a new brand once my current HP printer dies. They have a tendency to suddenly prevent wireless printing capabilities, which is annoying.

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time uninstalling and then reinstalling software, only for the problem to repeat itself shortly thereafter. Customer service is non-existent. First world problem, I know, but I would prefer to print wirelessly, not just when my laptop is connected via USB.

I bought this as a printer/scanner combo to have at home during the Covid quarantine. The printer set up is easy. I have a pc and a mac and it connects effortlessly to either one. The printing is good quality for a machine in this price range and the scan quality is good.

On a whole the machine is fine for light printing and scanning in a single person home office. So now you’re asking why the 2 stars when it seems like an ok machine? Well, we live in a paperless world so I actually use the scanner much more than the printer.

I was super happy the machine had a paper feeder for doing larger scan jobs. Unfortunately, after a week of having the machine the scanner feeder broke. It recognises there is paper there to scan it just stopped feeding them in.

I suppose it’s fine since when I used the feeder, all the scans were crooked anyway. So now have to spend too much time scanning each document, placing them on the glass one by one. Fast scanning is pretty much the only thing I miss from the office.

My final word. if you are debating between this and another printer. Pick the other printer.

I replaced an older HP printer that has been just a champ for many years. My experience with replacing solid equipment that has reached the end of its life has been mixed at best. So I was prepared for the new printer to disappoint.

Work to be sure, but just not be my old printer. Reviews told me to be ready to have issues loading drivers and getting the computer to communicate with it. That went fine. One reviewer commented it was good but just didn’t feel as sturdy.

It is definitely lighter but didn’t feel fragile or insubstantial. It isn’t any more quiet than my old printer but it isn’t noisier either. And the duplex is OMG amazing!!! I have been manually duplexing for decades and it is worth the upgrade just for that.

The print quality seems fine. I haven’t had to print on anything but 8. 5 x 11 yet, but I am not too worried. So overall, I am pleasantly surprised with this printer.

Overall, this printer is a good value. It prints fast. Does two-side printing. It offers other features, which we don’t use, like document and remote printing. May want to read more on that if you’re interested.

Overall, this thing sets up fairly fast, and has pretty straight forward networking and configurations. The print quality is good. We have seen some issues with mis-feeds from this model, but it’s negligible, considering the price you pay for this.

Overall, I would recommend this. It can handle a small office environment well, for the price. Plus, you can order the large capacity toners. It also works well with quality aftermarket toners, but you may not get a toner reading since they’re not HP OEM’s.

If you’re looking to use this more long term, in a shared environment, I would recommend another printer. This printer could handle the load, but I have my doubts that it could handle it for multiple years though.

Plus, you would want to add the large capacity tray to it.

In the past, for most of our B&W requirements, have relied on Brother laser printers. That is, until the quality and reliability became to inconsistent. Years ago, when HP made laser printer *Tanks*, really wasn’t any other choice.

Sadly, those days are gone…but what is one to do?Took a chance on the M402dn, and can say, after 6 months, we are pleasantly surprised. Duty cycles are probably imaginary, but I can say with certainty, that we print at least 200-300 pages a day, easily printing over 1,000 once a week.

No quality problems as all, and little to no feed issues. One of its better features is the time to first print – easily fastest we’ve every had. I was aware of the feature, but didn’t think it would be that important.

It would be one hard to lose now, having come to love this aspect. Good printer, very economical, and quality is sufficient for our user manuals that we ship out weekly.

Impossible to setup wirelessly and after adjusting settings for wired printing could only get one document to actually print. apparently by mistake. I took it back and bought a Brother MFC-J6545-DW online which has worked flawlessly scanning and printing.

It also has much larger ink cartridges that last longer. HP Help was no help and after reading the horror stories of most online posts I got rid of it and had to purchase a low cost Canon letter size printer/scanner from Target to temporarily work around for my job while I waited a week for the new Brother unit to be delivered.

And the Cannon ALSO worked flawlessly. So, it appears HP is the issue. My HP docking station after two weeks also went bad at the same time so i had to do all my work on a laptop screen until the replacement under warranty showed up.

Well, at least they have a well-oiled diversity department judging from their corporate web site. Must hire plenty of engineers based on diversity and not competence based on my experience with their products.

Very easy to install to my Wi-Fi. My iPhone and iPad automatically recognized it when I printed from them. You can even scan from your phone directly to the printer no matter where you are. If you ever printed photos in a printer that doesn’t have a dedicated tray for photo papers, you know that it can be frustrating and it is prone to errors, making you waste time and money.

Fortunately, this HP Envy Inspire comes with a tray exclusive for photos that actually works and does so very well. Equally important, the pictures look professional, which is something really important to me because I take a lot of photos and I expect the best ones to look great on paper.

Text is excellent like all modern HP printers and the speed is very good for most home offices although it could be considered slow if you print a lot of work documents. What I dislike is the fact that it uses a tri-color cartridge, which is a waste of ink in my opinion.

You run out of magenta, for instance, and you have to buy another cartridge, wasting the remaining yellow and blue inks. • 6 months of Instant Ink included, which is sent to you automatically when the printer senses your running of ink And the Cons: • Only works with Original HP ink. It guarantees quality but HP ink is not cheap • Instant Ink Subscription is great and started cheap, but they just increased their price depending on your type of subscription.

It is convenient but it also optional, so you can decide whether this is a con or pro. • Tri-color ink cartridge. I prefer individual color cartdriges. • Doesn’t support the newest Wi-Fi generations 6 and 6e.

Not many homes have that yet, but it is the future of newer Wi-Fi routers. You can’t go wrong with an HP printer, and this one is no exception. Despite my complaints about their tri-color cartridge and Instant Ink subscription, which is somewhat pricey but very convenient, especially if you print a lot, its print quality is unmatched.

With this printer, my expectation was not that it could produce perfect, professional quality photo prints at its price point. I was looking at this as something my family could use to make a quick print from a phone or tablet on the go.

That’s pretty much exactly how this printer is being marketed. I have had a similar printer for several years, and lately it has started to deteriorate, but I had a baseline for comparison from when it was new.

In Terms of design, I personally like the simple, streamline, utilitarian build that doesn’t take up excess space and doesn’t have excessive “styling”. The design of the paper trays and the out-feed are well thought out.

Selecting the correct place to put various stock sizes is very easy. The out-feed support is a very simple piece that slides out easily, not at all like the complicated, clunky, noisy and now broken mechanical out-feed that was on my old printer.

Overall, though made of plastics, the printer feels solid, and there don’t appear to be unnecessary bits and pieces that can break off, dislodge or otherwise become problems. When setting up the printer I was prompted to install a mobile app, and a QR code was provided that linked my phone to the app.

After installing the app, basic setup of the printer was extremely simple, and I ran the printer through some calibration and test prints. While not silent this printer is much quieter, and also much quicker to start prints than my previous printer.

The machine doesn’t shake rattle and roll, just a couple of noises as the paper is picked up then there is just a nice smooth finish. The app on the phone seems to be pretty handy, especially considering the limited number of options that the mobile device has natively for printing.

There was a bit of learning curve to navigating some of the options to get exactly what I wanted, in particular I found changing sizes to be difficult. After running through several prints on my phone, I decided to try out printing from my windows laptop.

Normally, when I print from the laptop I simply use the built-in print utility and everything works fine. I have done this with a variety of printers. The laptop saw the printer on my network and I figured I was all good to go.

This is the first printer that I have had that forced me to download the brand specific print application so that I could change certain preferences, and unlike the phone, I found the printing process very convoluted on the laptop.

For example, when I tried to print a photo from the laptop at the highest output resolution, it would continually throw back to a lower quality when I selected the exact photo stock paper that was recommended.

This was a bit frustrating and I had to play a bit of guessing game to find which combination of paper would work for the output I wanted. In terms of print quality, I cannot complain about the sharpness of the prints as all of the high-resolution images that I printed from both my phone and laptop looked nice and crisp.

I was however disappointed with the color reproduction. This printer just seems to struggle with skin tones. Everything seems too red and over-saturated. I ran the calibration utility, and then I scanned an older photo that I had using the printer’s built in scanner.

The scan to laptop utility worked very well and the image that I saw on the laptop was a very accurate, very true to color and tone copy of the photo. When I printed it out, the skin tones were simply too red.

This seems like a very big flaw for a printed that will primarily be used to produce pictures of family and most likely people more than anything else. The printer came with a free 6-month subscription to the HP ink delivery service.

I have not had the printer long enough to say whether this service will be worth paying for later. I will say that the ink tanks on this printer are combined 3 color in one cartridge tanks, meaning that when you are out of cyan, you have to swap the whole tank.

This is something that I cam not fond of. Considering the small size of the tanks I feel like I will be blowing through ink cartridges quite quickly, though the documentation for the ink delivery program states that the tanks you will received through that service have more prints in them than the XL tanks you can purchase at retail stores.

Overall, I feel like this printer is just ok. It has some solid design and some nice capabilities (the wireless scanning is my favorite feature so far!). On the downside, it’s difficulty printing skin tones and some of the difficulty I had in the Windows environment are pretty big issues, especially considering the price point is higher than some similar printers I have owned or encountered.

I bought this printer while in nursing school to print out some of my detailed and color coordinated notes for my exams and then after while studying for my NCLEX. I really like this printer. It’s easy to use, the scan option and the app that comes with it has come in really handy for things other than printing.

The ink mail-service subscription is absolutely amazing I must say! I hated having to buy ink cartridges before because sometimes they’re so expensive that at times it made more sense to cough up the extra money to buy a whole new printer as opposed to the $50-$70 ink cartridges.

HP now has this $5 subscription (which I received free for 6 months to try out and will absolutely be keeping it after the trial is done) the printer is obviously connected wirelessly so the app that you use this printer with keeps track of how much ink you have left and without me having to do anything, whenever one of the inks gets low, HP automatically sends me a new cartridge for that color in the mail.

It’s been really convenient and it’s truly one of my favorite features of the brand of printers. The printing quality is also really nice. My only issue and the reason I didn’t make it 5 stars is that sometimes (it’s happened 2 or 3 times) the printer starts acting wonky and making this repetitive sound while I’m trying to print like it’s wanting to print but gets stuck or something.

I’ve had to unplug and re-plug to fix the issue then I try printing again and it works fine. Not sure why that happens, maybe I got a lemon but other than that it’s a phenomenal printer.

From day one I’ve had nothing but problems with this thing. I know everyone says they’re tech savvy, but as a PC enthusiast that builds from scratch and is well aware of troubleshooting. But this thing.

If it’s not possessed I can’t come up with a solution. First off, it took almost an hour to set up, and that’s not even counting the half a dozen times HP tries to shove it’s subscription offer down your throat.

Once your forced into downloading their app (yup, no driver file) and registering online for an account (yup), THEN you get full access to your printer. And I will agree, it worked fine after that until later that night.

It would wake up and grind it’s gears for a few minutes with a “Firmware unable to update” message on the screen. This went on for weeks and the only resolution was to unplug it. One day a couple months later it randomly showed a message that the firmware was updated successfully.

No idea how, when, or why but ok. For ink, it’s a hog. And there’s nothing really out there generic wise to save some cash so your stuck with OEM ink. Or pushed into a monitoring subscription service where HP monitors how many pages you print and how much ink your using monthly (yup, again).

The breaking point was tonight. Between the HP Smart App and the print service needed on phones makes it all but impossible to print (feel free to school reviews of HP print spooler). Could not get it to connect properly or print.

Either through a normal connection or wifi direct. This printer spends more time installing unnecessary apps on devices and over monitoring the usage. Add that in with terrible connectivity and compatibility issues and it’s over.

Unfortunately it met a sad ending today and will not be missed at all. My parting words for a horrible, horrible, printer. “PC Load Letter”.

I love my new HP Laserjet Pro M-404DW. This printer is quiet, fast and has great print quality. I needed a printer that had great print quality, was fast , had automatic duplexing of print and would allow wireless printing, this printer “checks all the boxes”! This printer replaces 2 brother laser printers that failed within a 2 year period, the first printer lasted about 18 months the second one only lasted 2 months, bothe were replaced under geek squad replacement warranties.

It all comes down to you get what you pay for. A sub $200 laser cannot compare to a $420. HP Laserjet. The speed anf print quality on this HP Laserjet blows away the previous Brother printer. The print quality on the HP is so much clearer and sharper than the print on the Brother.

Even when set on the lowest print quality the Hp printers print quality is so much cleared and sharper than the brother laser even on brothers highest print quality. There is no comparison between the HP and the Brother, the HP wins hands down.

The superior build quality is evident immediatly when you open the HP box, everything fits better the toner cart fits much better and slides in more smoothly on the HP than the Brother and is much quieter when printing.

Yes the HP is about twice the cost and the toner carts are more expensive, but you get what you pay for! You can buy quality once first off or you can go cheap and spend much more on multiple throw away printers.

I am confident this printer will last much longer and print much better than the previous 2 printers it replaces. I am very pleased with my HP M404DW!.

HP printers are the best in built quality and reliability. After 22 years of using the HP LaserJet 2200dn the on/off switch broke and was not able to find a replacement – sad. But it gave us many, many thousand perfect pages without a single jam! However, HP Printer Premium Paper (24lb) was always used! Bought this LaserJet Pro M404dw last week with the 4-year extended warranty and tech support: Comments: 1) is not as fast as HP states of 40ppm, much much slower than my old printer; 2) setup/driver download/install was easy and fast; my dell PC recognized it immediately; 3) however, the wireless connection to my iPhone was a nightmare, until finally it connected; 4) the extended warranty with Technical Support is provided by “Asurion”, which is physically located in the Philippines; 5) Asurion support was very poor, to say the least: a) their English is below par, even though the issue was repeated several times and repeated “s l o w,” b) was transferred 4 times!, c) the first two said the printer was defective, even though I was telling them is printing fine.

The issue is only with the wireless portion, which is not being recognized! They said “return the printer is new so go back to the store and get another one”! I requested to be transferred to a technician.

d) the other two non-techs (even thought I requested to speak with a tech) said they couldn’t help me, so I requested again to be transferred to a tech. They did not understand, so I hang up, e) Called and for the fifth (5) time, then was able to speak with tech (yeah!) who’s English was poor, BUT he paid attention to what I was explaining to him, he was very helpful (Francis).

Francis understood and was able to guide me circumnavigating the wireless portion and in 25 minutes I was up and running and printing from my iPhone! Thanks to Francis! f) the printer is very quite printing and is not on “quiet” mode.

g) is small (15 x 14. 06 x 8. 5 in) and only weigh 18. 8lbs, w/o box. h) IF during setup you set the printing to “fine” it will yield 1200 x 1200 dpi, which is an outstanding resolution! Have had HP printers form 30+ years and obviously a fan after trying other brands.

An HP fan for business and home (now retired). Plan to continue buying HP printers through “Staples” because of their great service. However, will not order/buy again the extended “Asurion” plans – too much stress.

Do recommend this printer. If you do NOT want fast printing speeds. If you want faster printing speeds, then choose the HP M507dn.

Bought 2 of these as work printers for two different computers. The printer never prints when you hit print. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times, trying to reset. Also, have cleared out the queue.

The times I have had a successful print, it prints random characters at the top of the page. When I go to the website for help I try to download the HP Print and Scan doctor and upon installing, when I click on it says the program is not functioning correctly.

Very dismayed. Worst printers I’ve ever bought.

Absolute worst printer I’ve ever owned in my life. If I print black and white, I have maybe a 50% chance of it actually printing the document. If I try color, 0%. It doesn’t even throw up an error, it just prints maybe half a page and quits.

No error message or anything. I used to spend hours troubleshooting it just to get the most basic job printed, but now I’ve given up. There’s always some new problem. It’s an absolute crapshoot whether anything prints at all – most of the time it says it’s printed successfully while the printer does absolutely nothing.

I would try to return it, but frankly, after all the frustration and stress it’s caused me over the six months I’ve owned it, I’d rather accept the wasted money and at least have the momentary pleasure of violently taking a sledgehammer to this insanely irritating product.

For someone who prints a lot of documents at once, this printer has been fantastic! I have been using it for a little over a week or so and have come away very impressed. This is my first time using a laser jet printer in my home, and it has blown me away, after having used an equally modern inkjet printer.

The setup process was very straightforward, with the instructions being clear without being too complicated or too user friendly. Setup is very minimal and convenient, with already having the drum and toner preinstalled.

All the printer needs is to be plugged in and setup through a PC or the mobile app and it is ready to go. The standout advantage for me is simply how fast it is over my other printers. Pages print in literally seconds one after the other.

For fun I compared the print quality to my current ink jet printer I use and was very impressed, with the laser yielding considerably finer, sharper and overall higher quality text. The mobile app is great as it allows for a seamless setup and lets you quickly print documents from your device.

For a basic laser jet printer, it works very well, the only disadvantage I see is the long-term use and cost for replacing the imaging drum and ink as compared to an inkjet printer. If you need an easy to use laser printer for basic black and white printing with speed and print quality being important, this is a great printer to get.

I am profoundly disappointed. My previous HP printer, also an Office Pro, was a gem. Its print head gave out after years of brave service. Bought this sad sack: it is rickety–rattles and shakes and the paper drawer sticks at every touch.

The ink is hard to refill; my hands aren’t strong enough to pull off the orange protector easily. The description on the web is not honest_ it DOES NOT COPY 2-sided to 2-sided. Both Hewlett and Packard and I worked together They would spin in their graves about this frail bit of product.

I have set up this printer through a usb cable. I have set it up over my wifi. I have followed all the manuals for this product I could find. I have restarted everything and cleared all errors. I have even downloaded the borderline malware that is the HP Smart Printer App.

And yet, somehow, I still have to click print multiple times before it will even print one copy. AND it stalls for about 20-30 minutes after I press print before printing anything. Then I end up with however many copies that I clicked the print button.

Which would make sense, if only I weren’t forced to click print 7 times before this printer will even consider printing anything. Overpriced paperweight that will occasionally print too much of one thing for no apparent reason.

I have had this for about a week and it is working fine. Installation was a bit of a pain. HP really seems to want you to register, I assume so they can replace toner cartridges. If you don’t want to do this, options start to get fewer.

It would not link to the WPS button on the router. I finally hooked it up using a USB cable to get one computer started and then switched it over to wireless. Once set up, other devices in the house recognized it on the network and connected seamlessly.

This included IPhones and IPads. It is working fine and starts printing much faster than my previous laser printer. But, when it goes to sleep, both the wireless light and power light start to flash.

Since the printer is set up in a bedroom, these lights are hugely disruptive and had to be covered.

Having had previous budget printer scanners that have not spent the test of time we decided to buy a more robust mobile printer from Printerland. We bought an HP Officejet 250 mobile printer scanner and not only was it delivered within 18 hours of ordering it was one of the easiest setups ever taking at tops 10 minutes.

The printer is pleasantly robust too and can run off its own internal battery. Glad we bought inks with our purchase the setup inks seem to be only very partially filled and we should be OK for a while as we bought the high volume inks.

Only set up to work from phones iPads so far very easy and print quality is very good on the 20 pages we ve printed so far. Would recommend this printer and Printerland.

I purchased this printer last week. I had been searching for a relatively inexpensive printer that can scan legal size documents. The specs listed are quite confusing as it mentions that it can scan legal size through the feeder but then says that it only scans through the flatbed.

Based on that, I contacted customer service through the live chat to ensure that it would meet my needs before purchasing. The representative told me the printer would not work for me as it does not have a feeder even though it was listed as one of the features of this printer.

(I did get the feeling that she was trying to sell me on more expensive models that were way out of the budget I gave to her). I read an article about this printer that said it did in fact scan legal documents so I took a chance and ordered the printer anyway.

It does have a feeder and it does scan legal documents, which is the only reason I was purchasing a new printer to begin with. As a bonus, it will also print legal documents which is nice, but was not necessarily a requirement for me.

The printer itself is sleek looking and while a little wider than I was hoping, it does not actually take up too much room. It is a little slower than I’d like and the paper seems to jam every other time I try to scan, but I can make it work for the time being.

I love the wireless capability and the touch screen is easy to use. Print quality is good. I did have to set it up manually as the HP Smart software could not locate the printer. Manual set up was easy and did not take too much time.

Overall, it is a pretty decent printer and I am happy that I listened to my gut and not the customer service representative.

This printer has been a problem since the day we took it out of the box. I wanted to replace my previous desk jet that kept losing connection to our wifi, so I thought I would upgrade a bit. The starter cartridges were nearly empty (too old I guess) so it took forever to set up and it wouldn’t align because print quality was so poor.

Fine, bought new cartridges and installed. Works fine to scan, but constantly tells me it is out of paper or the door is open. Every time I want to print i have to delete and reinstall the printer. Not worth the trouble.

In the garbage it goes and I will just keep using the old one.

If you are looking for an easy to use, reasonably priced, all in one wireless printer this is the ONE. Set up: The Set up/installation took less than a few minutes and what I loved was that it was all through the app that I downloaded on my smart phone.

The instructions were straightforward and helped guide you very quickly through the process. Use: The printer is self explanatory and has a LCD touch screen which is intuitive and responsive. You can carry out all of the functions – print, scan, copy – directly from there if you don`t want to use your phone.

Speed: I have two kids who constantly need school projects printed at very short notice and the speed of the printer is pretty good compared to others I have had. No paper jams or slowing down of printing as of yet.

Best thing is that they can print stuff from their laptop or phone without me getting involved. Scanner: Haven`t used this function much but it is very easy to use and allows for multiple settings on the quality of scanned pictures or docs.

Fax: I don`t require faxing documents much but I did try and fax over a document and had no issues, it dials and sends pretty quickly. Remote printing: My favorite feature is that I can print documents and photos from my phone remotely.

No one in the family needs to be in front of the printer to print anything. Print quality is great. I have printed pictures and regular text documents and there is no smudging or contrast issues. Another new feature this printer comes with is HP Instant Ink.

This program allows you to sign up for ink cartridge replacements at 50% off the regular ink prices. Based on printing needs, it can work out for some folks and not for others. e. g. , I usually print.

This printer doesn’t have all the extra bells and whistles and is priced as such. If you want fast, sharp black and white prints, this fits the bill. Not true wi-fi but the Smart app makes it perform like wi-fi from any device as long as you’re okay connecting the printer itself to your network router/modem via ethernet.

Manual only for two-sided printing. Doesn’t have a scanner or a copier. A printer only. But with the smart app, you can scan your items with your phone or tablet camera and seamlessly send the print job to this printer.

Same thing for files. If you have the need to do photos regularly, that would be one reason to go with a different printer.

My old HP M402n was awesome, so I ordered the updated model M404n when it was time to buy. Stay with a winner, right? Wrong. Maybe HP engineers tried loading too much software capability into the Smart App?? It worked initially.

for 1 day. then started going “offline” regularly. Tried using the HP support, Scan Doctor, delete/reinstall. you name it. but the Doctor never revived this critter. I’m a mid-level tech sort of guy, but after I wasted 4 hours of my work time, I called it quits.

Returned it, bought a Brother HL-L2395. $100 cheaper, BTW. No problems, up and flying in about 15 minutes with the set up CD and online updates.

Laser printers have several advantages over inkjet printers…but, at the same time, there are certain advantages that ink jet printers have over laser printers. The HP LaserJet Pro M404n is a perfect example.

Is the M404n right for you? We shall see………. UNBOXING & INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Many companies have switched to “environmentally-friendly packaging” (cardboard, as opposed to Styrofoam), including HP in many of their lower-end printers.

Unfortunately, HP still uses (a lot of) Styrofoam in packaging their higher-end printers. While it does keep the printer ‘safe’ during shipping, the impact to the environment will last for several human generations.

As for cables, the ONLY cable included is the power cord…there are no USB and/or Ethernet cables included. On the ‘bright’ side, the printer’s toner cartridge comes pre-installed. SETUP: This was both simple, and difficult.

The physical setup, as well as installing the drivers & software, were a breeze. Setup consisted of plugging in the power cable, connecting the Ethernet cable (the printer can be connected directly to a single computer, via USB, if you don’t want/need network printing capabilities), powering the printer up, and answering a few simple questions on the printer’s 2-line LCD display.

For driver/software installation, you have two options – you can download the HPEasyStart file (6. 43MB), or you can download the full-install package (111. 5MB). The first option is the easier, and smarter, way to go, as it will only download the components needed for your specific setup, and will walk you through every (well, almost every, as I later discovered, and will explain, below) step of the install/configure process.

As mentioned, there is a slight problem in configuring everything, that being that, while configuring the EWS (Embedded Web Server settings, the ‘Internet connection’ is not automatically connected. After installation is complete, if you go to the “Web Services” tab, on the ‘Summary’ page, under ‘Internet connection’, it will indicate “Not Connected”…even though ‘Web Services Status’ shows “Enabled”, and ‘Printer connection to HP Connected’ indicates “Connected”.

As discovered during a phone call with HP’s tech support, the printer’s Network connection needs to be set to a static IP, as opposed to the dynamic IP setting configured during the setup. You do this in a 2-step process.

First, on the “Network” tab, under ‘General’, click on ‘Network Protocols’, and change it to “Enable IPv4 only”, then click. Next, go to ‘Wired’ (“Network” tab), then ‘IPv4 Configuration’, and change the IP Address Configuration from “DHCP” to “Manual IP”.

If everything is working as it should, your previously auto-assigned IPv4 information should automatically be filled into the ‘Manual IP’ & ‘DNS’ boxes. To finish, just click. If you go back to the “Web Services” tab, under ‘Summary’, the Internet connection line should now read “Connected”.

Needless to say, a relatively minor problem, but a bit of a PitA in regards to getting the info needed to fix it (the HP tech support person didn’t provide the solution…it was jointly discovered during the phone call.

PRINT QUALITY AND SPEED: This is one area that laser printers greatly excel over inkjet printers. Print quality IS OUTSTANDING…the blacks are “black”, grayscale is “grayscale”, text & images are sharp…no more, and no less, than what I would have expected.

HP claims a maximum print speed of 40ppm, and it’s quite accurate…and not accurate. Using a 42-page document, I ran three tests, although the first two tests produced almost-identical results. First, I printed one page, from the printer in “Sleep Mode”, then one page with printer ‘awake’, and finally the remaining 40 pages, also with the printer ‘awake’.

Whether the printer was ‘asleep’, or ‘awake’, it made no difference, which I’ll explain. With an inkjet, printing is, essentially, a 1-step process – you click , the computer sends the print data to the printer, and it prints whatever was sent.

With laser printers, on the other hand, it is a 2-step process. Step 1 consists of clicking , which sends a command to the printer that a print job is about to start, the laser printer “warms up”, and finally the printer sends back a command that it’s “ready to receive the print data”.

The second step consists of said print data being sent to the printer, and the printer printing what it received. In ALL three tests, the first step took approx 1. 5 minutes (+/- 4 seconds). In the first two tests, the printer completed the second step in approx 10 seconds.

As such, while the “printing” took only 10 seconds, the total printing process took approx 1 minute, 40 seconds. Moving onto the final test, the second step took 62 seconds. So, in essence, this does prove that HP’s claim of “printing” up to 40ppm is accurate…however, when combining the time of both steps, the total printing process took just under 2.

5 minutes. While the “total printing process” might be much longer than HP’s 40ppm claim, that’s still faster than most inkjet printers. Considering that the printing was done at the ‘Normal’ setting, an equivalent print job on an inkjet might have taken considerably longer (even if printing “black only”).

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: HP lists the LaserJet Pro M404n as having two paper trays…and, in a matter of speaking, it does…but, not entirely. What is labeled as ‘Tray 2’ is actually your primary tray, located at the bottom of the printer, and capable of holding up to 250 sheets.

Before I cover ‘tray 1’, I will mention that you can purchase/install an additional paper tray (which becomes ‘tray 3’), and has a 500-sheet capacity. Getting back to ‘tray 1’, this is accessed by opening the front panel, and manually loading (up to 150 sheets) the paper (a flip-up extender allows it to accommodate legal-length paper), or envelopes.

While you could, technically, leave ‘tray 1’ loaded all the time, its real use is in temporary usage. If you want two different paper-types loaded on a regular basis, I would highly suggest/recommend purchasing the 500-sheet ‘tray 3’.

Also, the 2-line display could be better. At minimum, a 3-line display should have been included. Better yet, a color touch-screen display, as seen in almost off of HP’s other LaserJet printers (including less-expensive models, wouldn’t have been too much to ask for.

Looking at all their LaserJet printers in the same general price-range ($200-399), there are 9 different ‘series’, 5 of which have touch-screen displays, including two models that are up to $100 cheaper than the M404n.

THE GOOD: • Excellent print quality • Extremely high-speed printing • Easy to understand/use software • (Mostly) Simple to set up • Compact size (for a business-oriented laser printer) THE BAD: • Getting the printer “internet connected” isn’t automatically accomplished, requires manual settings • No auto-duplex printing THE UGLY: • For the price, HP could have easily included a touch-screen display FINAL VERDICT: If you’re only printing a few pages at a time, then an inkjet printer is probably your best bet.

If you need to print in color, I stand by that same comment. Lastly, if your monthly printing is fairly low (say, less than 50 pages/month), then you should ask yourself if you REALLY need a laser printer.

However, if you have any need for printing high-volume print jobs and/or you print over 100pages/month and/or you need printouts to be waterproof (inkjet prints are NOT waterproof, and WILL bleed if gotten wet), then a laser printer will fit your needs.

The are less expensive laser printers (from HP, as well as from other manufacturers), but they will have less features/functions, slower print speeds, and (typically) only a single tray). There are also laser printers with lots more features/functions (including fax capability), faster print speeds (up to 60ppm w/ HP), and multiple trays (up to 5 w/ HP), but they can cost into the thousands of dollars.

If you’re looking for a reasonably-priced black-only laser printer, with a reasonable number of features/functions, that also prints fast, HP’s M404-series of LaserJet printers will fit the bill. There are five models to choose from, with the M404n being the middle-of-the-pack.

We have an old HP Deskjet D4100 series printer that we have enjoyed for many years but it does not have all the functions I want/need. Since the OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-In-One printer is so highly rated I though I would be quite happy.

The first printer ordered was returned because it would not open to receive the ink cartridges. Replacement did not take long and I had been given the return labels so it was free. The Reference Guides do not give all the directions for setup but I was able to find videos to assist.

I am still unable to find and download a complete manual for this printer. The second printer has a label with incorrect serial and pin numbers so, after many minutes of talking with Tech Support I had to call back and pretend to want to purchase a printer in order for someone to look up my order number and retrieve the information needed.

I have been unable to find a manual on line. A manual would be very helpful if it gave directions such as wireless set up, how to print postcards and other unusual items and simple things such as which side of the paper should be up in the paper tray.

Trial and error is a huge waste of time, effort, ink and paper. Firefox will not allow the User Guide to be opened because it is not secure and may pose a threat. There does not seem to be a satisfactory place to have questions answered and calling HP does no good.

I finally received a case number for a question about operation. Why can’t I simply get an answer without calling and waiting for someone knowledgeable to answer the phone, look up the case number and get me to the person who MAY know the function I need to have explained? Again, a manual would certainly help.

Photo printing is not satisfactory. The colors are much too dark and the print is not sharp. Totally unacceptable. It takes a long time for the printer to be ready to print after it is turned on. Each time the paper tray is opened the printer needs to take time to check itself.

When a different size paper is detected from what the printer thinks I want, my computer will keep beeping at me until I choose EXACTLY what is chosen by the printer even though not all sizes are offered.

My computer will allow me to designate a specific size of paper that would fit in the tray but the printer will not accept that. It appears that only HP paper is to be used as well as HP ink. And, no, I do not want ink automatically sent to me.

If I will not be using it for awhile, it will become dried out.

My terrific Canon MX922 stopped working and I had to get a replacement in a hurry – Office Depot delivered this HP quickly! – thank you OD. Too bad I didn’t have time to research and get a better AIO than this stinker HP.

Amazing that HP, perhaps the top-selling printer maker, can’t turn out a decent all-in-one. Examples: printer comes out of the box set to scan at 200dpi, which results in a nasty, crude-looking scan.

Set it to 300dpi for decent results. When you copy from the printer front panel, it won’t remember the color/B&W choice from the last copy — you have set it every time. When you save a scan, PC software won’t remember the last save folder setting.

When you copy the bottom part of a long document on the glass, with the top part of the document extending over the side of the printer, a plastic tab sticks down from the lid and punches a hole in your document when you close the lid.

The bloated scanning software takes forever to load on my high end PC, and has a confusing user interface. The HP+ scheme forever locks out your choice of ink and will disable the printer if it is disconnected from the Internet for too long, and has other nasty features.

It’s a torturous process to avoid HP+ during setup, and you lose a year of warranty. If you ever allow the printer to do a firmware update, your non-HP ink may stop working. The noise it makes when copying and scanning is loud and truly obnoxious.

And that’s just what I remember off the top of my head. Need I go on?.

The printer itself is full of really good features not available on less expensive printers like onepass twosided scanning, and 550 page capacity tray. I print from 500 to 1500 pagesmonth so I am getting a lot of value from this printer.

So for someone with my usage profile, I totally recommend this printer.

Nice quality of prints. Need to have an HP account to be able to scan needed paperwork. Not very friendly to operate.

Everything was good just wish the shipping/handling wasnt so much. The S/H was as much as the cost of the printer it self!

The best feature for me on this printer is that it never turns off but instead, goes into a standby mode. Whenever you need it, just send your document to it and it prints. Note: other brands do not do this.

Other brands turn off after a lack of use (You have to turn them on every day). The other feature that I like is the low profile and the large internal paper storage. These 2 features alone, make this printer a real workhorse for me.

I am using this printer in the wired connection scheme, The time for first page to print is very quick, just another plus.

This was my first time purchasing a LaserJet printer and I’d highly recommend it if you are looking for something to just print out documents. One of the differences between a laser printer and an inkjet is that laser printers use toner cartridges as opposed to liquid inks.
