20 Best Hot Tub Chemical Starter Kit (2023 Updated)

I purchased this for my inflatable spa. I used chlorine in my hot tub but chemicals were too harmful to my skin and also my friends lungs. I searched for something that wasn’t so harsh and decided to go with bromine.

I love it!!! It was a little tough in the beginning to get everything balanced but I’ve got in under control in 5 days. One thing about this start up kit is it does not come with alkalinity up. You don’t have to worry about that.

This is baking soda so do not go out and purchase it, most of us have this right in our home and it works perfect. I would definitely recommend this kit and the price is very reasonable.

Included everything I was looking for to treat my new hot tub. Easy to use and test the water with the strips that are included.

The bromine tablets do not dissolve! I’ve had the same 2 in my hot tub for 2 weeks and they are still in the floater! They have got to be VERY OLD!

Hot tub? OK, you can try balancing the water with a variety of overpriced PH up ‘n downs, hardness or softener prducts, ***. you can add a meaured cupful of Aqua Finess oce a week and enjoy your hot tub! We have had a hot tub for 23 years and have used this since it hit the market.

We have used Aqua Finesse in the new spa since purchasing it three months ago. We use the same amount of chlorine, ph decreaser (ph in our water is very high)and scale preventer as we did before using Aqua Finesse.

The difference we noticed with Aqua Finesse is a lack of chemical smell and our skin does not dry out. And yes, we follow direction, have an ozonator, clean the filters monthly, rinse off or bathe before entering the spa, and make sure no detergent residue is in our swim suits and we emptied and cleaned the spa 2 times in the last 3 months.

The water here is so high in alkaline that chemicals fail to correct it. I do not have the slightest idea why our experience is so different from that of other users. It just does not make any sense.

If I knew of a less expensive product that would eliminate the chemical smells, I would switch in a hot minute. We have consulted with the salesman that sold us the spa, he was unable help. We sold our first spa due to an allergy I developed to chlorine and bromine also effected me.

When we learned ozonators minimized the use of chemicals we chanced purchasing another spa. It was a lucky break that the spa dealer furnished the Aqua Finesse or I could not use the spa. The spa is medically helpful as I have fibromyalgia and severe arthritis.

If anyone has any recommendations please comment.

The video at 1:10 states, “One kit contains everything you need for 3-5 months. ” That’s a LIE. It doesn’t come with any sodium bromide for the Bomine tabs, it doesn’t come with the filter cleaner tabs mentioned at 1:02, doesn’t come with the “line purge spa clean” mentioned at 0:34, and doesn’t come with the chemical test strips shown at both 0:43 and 1:00.

And as for being “the only thing you need for 3-5 months”? Ridiculous! This is NOT a self-contained kit. Don’t fall for the disingenuous sales pitch. And be careful – there are three different things you could order: Bromine tabs, Trichlor tabs, or Dichlor powder.

But is there any explanation as to what the differences are? Nope.

Long time user and will continue in the future. Great for a quick fix for the bromine level.

One large spoon full each week keeps the spa clear and clean. There is one side effect of using bromine (verses chlorine), it dries out the spa cover that is exposed to the vapors when closed. However, we still get around 6 years out of our spa cover here in Albuquerque.

Our spa is 21 years old (almost 21. 5) and we keep using the same chemicals because they work.

Thought this was going to be the one! No itchy skin! That is great, but water clouds quickly and all of my levels are spot on, don’t get it! I have alwways changed and cleaned spa filters every week.

Have one bottle left, one last try.

Had a bad leak in my 21 year old spa. In February 2021, I was adding water every two weeks to keep the water level up enough so the pumps could run. Tried another product (pools and spas) a few weeks ago, but it didn’t work.

Leak got worse. I was now adding water on a weekly basis. I was worried about draining the spa when outside temperatures were below freezing, as this could do more harm than good. I decided to keep adding water weekly.

I looked online and saw Leisure Time ZJ Leak Seal for spas but not pools. I thought what the heck, and tried it. I checked the next day and thought the leak might have stopped, but I wasn’t sure. I didn’t take note of the current water level.

So I tried a second dose, taking a picture of the water level this time. I also dried the area around the spa, and placed paper towels around the spa. The next day the leak had stopped and the paper towels were dry.

I applied the third and final dose just to use the bottle up. Thanks.

We recently moved and refilled the tub. It was a plug and play and it was leaking. I thought I would try this since the repair guy said it was not worth fixing just buy a new one. It’s a small 2 person tub and I put about 3/4 the bottle in and followed the instructions.

Whatever this is fixed the leak. I let the tub sit for 24 hours and the water level did not drop and the floor is drying around the tub. This may not work for everyone nor would I say it will last time will tell, but I would pay the money on this first before I get a repair man involved or have to buy a new one.

Great chemical package for hot tub. Keeps hot tub Sanitized. Package price worth it.

First time we used a spring opening kit. We were happy how well the products cleaned up the pool. The best part….cheaper than buying products separately which is what we have always done….no more!

We bought our first bottle of Spa Marvel Water Treatment and Conditioner at the end of December. We had just purchased our spa earlier that month but after just a couple weeks, we were getting rashes and bumps.

I heard about Spa Marvel and thought we’d give it a try. A couple weeks later, it hadn’t made much a difference, the water felt silky, but we were still itching and getting bumps. I contacted Spa Marvel and one of their support agents, Tim, responded to us right away.

From our answers to his questions, we were able to determine that we either had a buildup of chemical residue (from overshocking and the acids used to lower the ph) or even possibly bacteria, since even new spas can harbor contaminants from water remaining in lines when the factory wet-tests them.

He recommended decontaminating it, which was super chlorinating it and maintaining a 20 ppm reading for 72 hours then draining and refilling it. Throughout the whole process, Tim was right there to help us every step of the way, answering any questions we had immediately.

And in the following weeks after we refilled it, he checked in about every week to see how everything was going. He provided us with a wealth of information and so many helpful suggestions. Since we refilled it and started over, our spa has been perfect and our family hasn’t had any issues.

I’m so glad that we contacted Spa Marvel and were able to have all the issues we were having resolved. Even though we were testing the water religiously and the levels were good, there was a lot we didn’t know about and things we were doing wrong, being first time spa owners.

We were worried that we weren’t going to be able to use our spa and almost regretting buying it. But thanks to not only the Spa Marvel products, but to all of the help from Tim, we’re now able to enjoy our spa and are loving it.

safe water quality. Trust me when I say if you saw what I saw you would normally never want to get in a hotel hot tub or any hot tub used by many people. When I recently purchased a new hot tub for home use I immediately started breaking out in red itchy patches and suspected bromine which I was never a big fan of but is recommended for home tubs.

I have always used a non chlorine shock but had never used bromine in a personal hot tub and had never experienced a rash before. I tried letting it dissipate and switching to low-dose chlorine but once bromine is in a tub you have to drain and clean it to get rid of it.

I learned that Chlorine actually recharges the used-up bromine. That is why they say once a bromine tub, always a bromine tub. I had read many positive reviews on Spa Marvel but never tried it before and quite honestly didn’t believe the hype.

However, since I needed to drain and clean my hot tub anyway, I decided to give it a try. I used their three-part system for cleaning out the tub, filter cleaning and their unique system of sanitizing.

I am now a believer. No more itch. A very small amount of chlorine tabs in a floater and a non-chlorine oxidizer is all I need to use to keep water perfect. No more PH or Alkalinity bounces or defoamer needed.

The water simply stays clear and safe with very little effort. I will now use Spa Marvel forever. It is only expensive for the first use because you have to clean out all the other chemical residue to start fresh.

A treatment can last for 6 months before draining and refilling. PH and Alkalinity stays put and no more foaming so it saves a lot of money on other chemicals and lots of time correcting water issues.

I also use a Frog system mineral stick in the skimmer just for good measure but probably won’t need to replace it on the next fill.

We purchased our hot tub a couple years ago and it was set up for us by the company. My husband and I use it on average 2x a week. Weekly chemicals were required at that time (with the old chemical set up) and although it is not difficult to do, it was obvious it would become time consuming and costly.

I began to research options and I am so excited that I took the time to read more about Spa Marvel. Although we were uncertain whether we would like it we made the investment, drained all the water, did a thorough cleaning and refilled it using Spa Marvel’s instructions.

The first time we used it we knew we made an excellent choice. Getting out of the water no longer made our skin and hair feel as if you need to run to the shower. Our skin was no longer feeling sticky and coated with chemicals.

Now that is the best part, when you can soak in the hot tub and just relax afterwards. We eventually decided to add a float that holds Bromine Tablets and that was the final touch we needed for clear, beautiful water with absolutely no maintenance.

For our 2x / week usage we went almost 6 months before our next drain and refill. So I think we will make water changes at the start of fall and the start of spring. BEST PRODUCT EVER!.

I have a 9000 above ground pool. The winter cover ripped, and the pool was filled with debris in the following spring – no algae though, as I had used an algaecide during closing. After manually cleaning, topping off with fresh water to full volume, I started this kit, following the included directions.

When I brought my water into the local pool store for analysis, it only needed minor corrections for proper balancing. This kit did the job, and was painless to use. I will use this again next year. BTW, I used their closing kit last fall, which is why the water was in good shape this spring.

I’m a new pool owner, and I bought this start up kit that looked so easy. I followed the directions as printed, and now have a cloudy, high chlorine, orange foam mess in my pool. After researching for days, I went back on your site and found that adding the products are to be done over the course of DAYS.

Not one right after another. It would have been so helpful and so less frustrating/upsetting if those directions were in the kit. The directions show add this, then add this, then add this, and on and on until i put everything in.

I had no idea they would interact this way when treating the pool. DO NOT ADD THESE CHEMICALS ALL TOGETHER. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I’M GOING TO FIX, ASIDE FROM DUMPING OUT THE WATER.

I ordered the Deluxe Pool Opening & Spring Pill Kit, but only the Spring Pill shipped. When I contacted customer service, they said my order had been fulfilled. They were unable to send me the rest of the kit and only offered a refund for the remainder of the kit.

If you want the Deluxe Kit and Spring Pill, I highly recommend ordering the items separately. There must be some error in their code that doesn’t fulfill the complete order. SUPER FRUSTRATING!!! Who wants to re-order just the kit and wait 7-10 additional business days to receive what should’ve been sent originally?!?.

I’ve used closing and opening kits for over 15 years. This brand is by far the best at keeping the pool clear over winter and opening quickly in the spring without the cloudiness that takes a week to clear up with other brands.

I’ve had NO cloudiness in the water in spring after using this brand. I highly recommend them.

Perfect for my above ground pool. An excellent bargain. It did the job.

Great starter kit for the new owner… the chlorine takes a little messing about with to know quantity to spa water ratio etc as we needed less than packaging indicated. So there was a little messing about to get the level correct.

After initial dosage it’s been very easy to check levels with strips and then top up with the chlorine and ph balancers. Spot on.

The starter kit you get here is amazing. I was so confused at what I needed to buy and how much to use. Within a few months it’s like second nature. The hot tub. I bought the 2-4 version, realistically it’s 2 adults.

4 children. That said, for the price, I love this thing. It’s easy to operate and quick and simple setup, like really simple. It’s fast at heating up, good at retaining heat and the jet’s are awesome.

It’s obviously not a fully kitted out hot tub with thousands but wow is it worth it. So if anyone reads this and wants to know if it’s worth the money, absolutely. Do it.

I haven’t used all the parts yet, but am happy to have all of the elements I need in one handy kit ready to go. It would be nice if they included the floater device, if that’s something we are meant to use as well.

Minor issue. And a small measuring spoon, but otherwise it’s great.

I brought this product for a 3 person 600 litre lazy spa and it was ideal for imitate maintaience of the hot tub. The instruction guide is easy to understand and provides adequate guidance. The only improvements I would make to the starter kit would be to add none test strips and possibly reduce the amount of pH minus and de-foamer included as I have not found my self using it compared to the chlorine and pH plus.

Other than that a good product for hot tub beginners for the price.

Very good, easy to use, do the job they were designed for. Makes using the spa a joy. You know water is clean and that you will stay healthy when you use it. We are thrilled with our new spa and have used it every night since we got it.

Buying this kit is a very good idea to get you going. I think the recommended doses are a little over the top, for example the daily dose of chlorine was too much. You can get away with putting that amount in every few days, but I appreciate others might have a different experience depending weather etc.

it was irritating material for the skin. it makes Hot tub machine shows an error after using ***. the test has only three-element and when you compare real test strips with seven indicators it shows ***.

I saw an ad on Facebook from Mr Poolman. I asked for advice on what I should use in a new spa. I was pleased with the advice. I decided a start up kit would be good. It arrived within the week. I am now learning what each product does and its importance.

The kit contains everything needed to make sparkling clean water with absolutely no chlorine odour. Skin doesn’t get sticky and feels lovely and soft afterwards.
