20 Best Homemade Weed Killer For Driveways (2023 Updated)

Have been using Roundup QuikPro for several years now. Pros for this herbicide is that it goes inactive when it hits the soil, so no residual in the soil. It does not affect my trees when the mix hits the trunks or exposed non-feeding roots.

I can mix it with Triclopyr when I need to save time and kill everything, although some care is necessary because the Triclopyr has residual in the soil. The Diquat hits the weeds quickly, so I can tell areas that I have missed without using a dye and can reapply on spots.

The original Roundup formulation did not have the Diquat, so you had to wait for a week to see missed areas or a dye must be used. Cons, I have just one, some of my weeds laugh at it and I need to use the Triclopyr.

Caveat: I have not used any other brand of Glyphosate formulation so have no basis for brand comparison.

This easy mix and apply formula is one of the best weed control products on the market, bar none. Do not be fooled by the water downed formulas you purchase at your local home improvement stores, it is not the same.

This is a easy mix granular formula that mixes into a slurry mix, then when the rest of the water is added turns into a weed killing application like none other. I honestly suggest this product for residential or commercial applications.

Caution: you must apply to dry area, do not allow product to get wet from rain, sprinklers or hand watering at least two hours. You will see results within eight hours and thwarts off weeds for six to eight weeks.

The 6. 8 pound container makes 100 gallons of mix. No need to add a little, more mix to less water doesn’t make the solution stronger, just wastes your hard earned money, don’t be tempted to do such a thing.

The weapon of mass weed destruction. Best thing is that its in a granular form, so its cheap when you figure out the cost per oz vs gallons mixed. 1oz dry granules to one gallon of water and the weeds don’t stand a chance.

Works very quickly and I highly recommend this product, pro grade.

So I just got this derelict property. There happened to be a tree growing on it pushing right up against the foundation. This tree is 2′ around. It sits between my house and the garage of the neighbors house, so its not easy to cut down.

I didn’t want it to grow anymore and continue pressing in on my foundation, but I also couldn’t afford to have a professional company come and cut it down. So after reading some articles on how to kill a tree, I found something saying that this product would work.

When I picked it up at the store, the lady told me that it only kills stumps, so I was a little dubious. I went home, and using an auger bit I drilled down into the tree about 16″ in 3 spots. I then poured approximately half of the bottle into the holes.

Its been about 3 weeks now, and ALL of the leaves on the tree (this HUGE tree) are dead or dying. Now I’ll have a bit skeleton of a tree but at least it won’t continue to grow pushing on my foundation.

This product far exceeded my expectations.

First the Tordon arrived on schedule, thanks. Cut down several unwanted Cottonwood trees and applied the Tordon to the outer edge of the freshly cut stump targeting the cambium layer area. It’s only been a week, so I’ll have to see if the Tordon does the job.

However, the product and bottle made the application very easy to apply. Again, it’s too early to tell but based on research prior to purchase I’m pretty confident that the Tordon will kill the stump and hopefully the immediate root system and any suckers.

You only use a very tiny amount! When you cut a tree or brush, have this ready in a small dropper bottle. Drop one drop on the bark to wood area if it is brush and 1 inch strip of liquid on a larger tree where the bark meets the wood.

Get each shoot with a drop. The tree or brush will not send out new shoots. Works great for willows. I have a problem with ash trees; they grow right back no matter how many times you snip them off. I dab this stuff on the snipped off saplings and that is it, done, will not keep growing back.

This bottle should last any small landowner a lifetime. Do not just splash it all over and do not get it on the dirt! It will soak in and kill everything around it. Amazing stuff!.

Here it is, April all ready and I am starting to see small weeds starting to sprout in the flower beds. I’m trying out roundup weed barrier this year to stop the never ending weeds. First I removed all the little sprouts prior to spreading the weed barrier.

Very easy to use with the bottle spout. The directions include a very small picture, which is supposed to show what the density of the granules should look like on the ground, but it is very hard to see, much better if you look online to find a better image.

I left part of the bed untreated for a comparison in a few months. I’ll report back later on the barrier results.

I put this on my beds shortly after receiving. My beds contain river rock stone and grass prevention is critical. In April, Michigan had 23 days of periodic rain. Bottom line I still have more grass than desired but I don’t blame it on Weed Barrier.

We are due for a warmer dryer week coming up. I plan on pulling the sprouted grass then re-applying the Weed Barrier. Weed Barrier packaging makes application very easy. I’m confident this product will solve the grass in bed problem.

Very easy to spread out because it is granules and not a powder. This way you can see exactly where you are putting it. This is important because it not only kills weeds , it also kills grass. You need to be careful not to get it on your lawn accidentally.

Just have to rake it in a little and then water and you are all set for 8 months. I do this before I mulch this way you will never get any weeds coming thru your mulch. A great product that doesn’t cost very much and can last 8 months.

This is a real winner.

Spring is here, and the weeds are starting to pop up! My flower beds are huge, usually taking 40 bags of mulch each spring, and trying to control the weeds can be exhausting. This year, since I was given this Preen Weed Preventer to review, I took this opportunity to use it while putting on a new layer of mulch.

Following the directions I got rid of the weeds that had already popped up, and I used the application lid to spread Preen on top of the mulch and over a brick walkway that always gets so many weeds between the bricks.

Even though I applied it very liberally it only took 1/2 the bottle to do all of my flowerbeds and the walkway, plus under the deck. Since the product should last 6 months that gives me another application for the fall in the same container.

The granules are quick to spread with the application lid, and I haven’t seen any new weeds poke through the mulch or brick walk yet since applying it a couple weeks ago. I am happy with Preen so far and look forward to a great season of not pulling weeds.

This stuff is amazing for flower beds! By now in my neck of the woods I would normally be pulling weeds like mad from my beds and having a tough time keeping up since this is the beginning of the growing season but I was able to apply Preen Extended Control Weed Preventer in time to stop the emergence of new growth.

I can testify that it is already working as there are no new sprouts coming up, and my beds look so clean under the plantings. This product is so easy to apply – just shake directly on the ground around existing plants.

I especially love that this is a 6-month control formula so I won’t necessarily need to apply again until fall. I am so pleased with this product and will be exploring more of their line of gardening formulas in hopes they will make my gardening life simpler.

A must-have for all display gardens!.

I have been using the regular Preen for many years and always had good results. When I discovered the Preen Extended Control, I was expecting to have good results and saving myself the time to not have to put the product down two times per growing season.

I put the Preen Extended Control down in March and followed application instructions as per usual. We live in MD, zone 7a. We have over 2 acres of property and several large flower gardens. My flower gardens have always been beautiful in the past, but this year the weeds are overwhelming! Attached is a photo of just one small area.

This kills hard to control weeds like chamberbitter in destin fl. ,that other weed weed killers won`t kill. Dose not kill the grass. I have centipede. I like to spray in the morning about 10 am before it gets to hot.

I spot treat about every 10 days. It took a year at least to get my yard looking awesome. Don`t forget to feed your lawn.

The inner seal on was half open, top was not on the bottle tightly. Some of liquid was seating at the bottom of the plastic bag. The plastic bag was sealed.

I have tall fescue and my neighbors have dandelions, with one application of weed free zone my lawn is weed free. I do apply Weed Free Zone in the fall also. Normally anything as good a weed free zone would stunt the grass, but it doesnt effect it at all.

I am so sorry I used this on my Zoysia grass. Label plainly states is safe for Zoysia but I am letting you know “BEWARE”. My beautiful Zoysia lawn is turning brown after trusting Scotts claim ‘kills weeds not the lawn’.

I will never trust Scotts products again. I am so sorry I didn’t trust my instinct from the beginning. Kills weeds alright but apparently Zoysia too!.

I live in the woods and it is a fight to keep a lawn on much of the area close to my house. Over the years I have given in an allowed anything green to stay such as clover, violets and crab grass, but I do eradicate poison oak et al on sight.

I do have some rather large areas on the property where grass is well established and I thought it would be nice to have some expanse of beautiful solid lawn so my neighbors would understand that it isn’t my fault that the wooded areas might be sketchy.

It was easy to attach the bottle of “Roundup For Lawns” snugly to my garden hose, and though I had to drag a hundred feet of hose out into my field, that’s really not to much, when you consider this one bottle covers 5000 sq.

ft. which is an area 50′ X 100′. It took less than an hour in total, including re-reeling the hose. It was a sunny day. I had lunch and piddled around the garage and thought to observe. Barely 3 hours since I started spraying, carcasses of standing weeds were twisted and laying over, and by mid day next, dandelions were drooping and violets were mad at me.

That was yesterday. I can’t say yet that everything is coming up rye grass, but I am off to a good start and the product has been everything as advertised.

This product handled some of my weeds but still have a mixture of odd weeds and grasses. I applied this in between the early spring turf builder and the Thick R Lawn. It required a waiting time of 4 weeks before the Thick R Lawn could be applied.

It is convenient having the hose hook up.

This stuff is efficient and economical. Two things to remember; 1) It works on green leaves. Just because weeds pop up in 2 weeks, don’t blame the product. Those new weeds were seeds when you used the product the 1st time.

Keep using it but only spot spray the 2nd time. 2) Follow the safety precautions. I’ve used RoundUp all my life and I’m a healthy 66 year old lady. I followed directions!.

Was pretty excited to review this product since I was just getting started with renovating my yard, this all-in-one spray did it’s job. I followed the instructions that are on the back of the bottle.

I sprayed my yard well before we actually mowed it. Waited about a week after I started nothing that it was killing all of the weed. My grass really needed something that was going to help it grown better without the weeds and make it a bit healthier.

It does look a lot greener since I started using this product it has removed about 85% of the weeds so far, due to our bad weather (floods) right now might have to restart the process. You can also used it on your flower beds or little garden that’s where I saw the quickest improvement.

Over all I really was impressed but the quality of the product, the simplicity of how to use it and apply it was a simple 1,2 3 step that anyone can do it. It a battery operated device which I feel it makes it a lot easier to use.

Since you just have to hold the bottle and spray away in the areas that are necessary. I like that its reusable so you can just buy a galon and attach the sprayer to the bottle and go to work. I do recommend the product to anyone who needs to get their yard back on track this really works wonders.

Especially if you have lots of stubborn weeds it’s really effective and efficient.

This All-In-One is truly an all in one. So easy to use and worked great. It has my lawn looking good without breaking my back. Love the Ergo-Grip sprayer (so much easier with my arthritis). I have a small lawn so this 1.

3 gallon has actually lasted through several uses. Definitely will be using this again.

All-In-One Lawn Weed &Crabgrass Killer 1. 3 Gallon Bottle with Ergo-Grip Sprayer Works great! I am truly an outdoors Carolina country girl so I have used quite a lot of products over the years in order to keep the yard looking nice and weed free! First I have to say that the design of the container is engineered for safe and easy usage.

The hose connected gives the ability for flexible use so you don’t have to get right up in crabgrass/weeds in order to get rid of them and the ergo-grip ensures you have a hold on it without hurting your hands.

The products design allows for you to get into those little tight spaces. I smelled no harsh smells which using the product and this is awesome bc the product truly is of great quality! The product contains no harmful ingredients thus allowing for minimal smell.

I recommend this product to all that have crabgrass/ weeds. Last but not least along with the crab grass/weeds go those little pest! How can you not want to try this product?.

This is a good 2-4-D herbicide. I like it over the Amine 2-4-D alternative as it is less temperature dependent. I has a higher percentage of 2-4-D, but according to the materials I read, the Amine is more effective.

However, the LV400 does not stink like the Amine. I used the Amine one time and I could smell it all summer long every time I went outside. The best and most effective herbicide I have used also manufactured by Gordon’s is Speed Zone.

It is about twice as expensive and a combination of 4 herbicides in one. LV400 does a good job on the normal broad leaf weeds.

This worked fairly well at killing off the clover and other broad leaf weeds. We had to do a second application to make a good dent in the dollar weed/creeping Charlie. All of that being said you MUST protect any surrounding vegetation.

The first application was done with zero wind but it was quite warm. This totally destroyed some tomatoes that were 20-30 feet away. The second time we used a hand sprayer to have it more controlled and it still affected some more tomatoes that were 5-10 feet away.

I was able to save them by pruning off the curled parts but this stuff will selectively kill household plants and vegetables even if you are quite a ways away. Reading up on it, the drift factor with 24D is quite extensive and has ruined vineyards etc.

Google it before application so you know the right time to spray (3-4 mph breeze and temps under 85). We will be covering everything the next time we use this (or use it early enough/late enough that the garden is done and the perennials are dormant).

I use chemical grass and weed killers in the front yard, but not in the back where my grandkids play. I purchased Natria primarily to kill the weeds and grass that sprout between the bricks on my patios.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the sprayer to spritz like a watery weedkiller does. I could only get it to put out a thick stream so I couldn’t spray down the bricks, I would have to go up, down, and back and forth across each joint, which would take a really long time, and take gallons of Natria, at a considerable cost.

So instead, I spot treated some broadleaf weeds and a little monkey grass that was growing between the bricks, and I spot treated broadleaf weeds, grassy weeds, and oak and pecan seedlings in my flower beds and lawn.

Within a few days, Natria killed everything but the monkey grass. I sprayed the monkey grass again, and it’s now pretty brown. I’ll cut off the brown and spray it a third time, and I think that will finally kill it.

Even though I was careful not to spray Natria anywhere other than on the weeds, I now have dead spots about six inches around in my lawn. The Natria really “traveled”. Fortunately, I have bermuda grass so it won’t be long until the runners fill in the lawn.

I think it will end up looking fine. The most exciting result for me was that Natria killed oak and pecan tree seedlings. Dozens of them sprout at my house every year, thanks to squirrels that bury acorns and nuts in my yard.

I just mow over the seedlings in the yard, and that kills them, but the ones in the flower beds and ground cover will get a shot of Natria, since digging them up disturbs the bulbs and other plants surrounding the seedlings.

The instructions state that the Natria spray bottle isn’t supposed to be reused, but I’m going to try and fill it with concentrate, and see if it works. That will save me some money.

I bought the 1 gallon jug with a small sprayer built into it. The cheap plastic sprayer on fell apart in my hand after about 5 sprays. I put it back in my car to return to the store the next day, but when I went into my car the next morning it had siphoned through the broken sprayer (which I stupidly did not remove from the jug) and most of the gallon of herbicide ended up in the floorboard of my back seat.

I had to dump cat litter in there to soak it up, and then vacuum that out. My car still reeks. Thanks for nothing Natria. I guess the 5 sprays I got out of the thing worked well enough, there’s dead patches of weeds in my driveway now.

This is easy to apply and works quickly to kill grass and weeds. I attached the included spray applicator and sprayed this along the driveway, curb edges, sidewalk and a fence line. The sprayed areas killed quickly, we had a thunderstorm overnight and the sprayed areas were dead the when checked the following day.

So this product is rainproof – the label says after three hours. I am not seeing any grow back so far and am not really expecting to because this product kills at the roots. We have just under an acre lot and I used less than a fourth of a gallon container of this product.

So if I have any new areas to treat, I will have more than enough product to last the rest of the year. I really like with this product that sprayed areas, if you want or need to, can be re-sown after only 5 days – with other products I was surprised to learn that it can be up to 2 months.

Another plus it does not have a heavy chemical odor when sprayed. This is an effective product for grass and weed kill it is easy to apply and works as stated. I am very satisfied. I can also easily find this in my local stores.

I previously bought Preen labeled “organic” and now find it is labeled “natural. ” I went online and found Preen is very toxic to birds, animals, and humans if we get it on our hands. Be careful spreading this product around unless you have no regard for the environment.

It is not that it doesn’t work, but the labeling is deceiving. BE AWARE.

After using Preen weed preventer in a drum in western NY for years I had expected good results from any product w/ that name. I wasn’t, however, prepared for the toughness of weeds in rural, northwestern NC.

Even when I changed to using the Southern formula to deter weed growth, it didn’t seem to work in my newly established flower beds. When I started 2 small 4′ x 4′ raised vegetable beds a few years ago I though I’d give the Preen for vegetables weed prevention a try.

It worked good in the beginning, but then I was confused by the instructions. One place said to refresh it every 4 to 6 weeks, while another said to use it weekly. Since I was used to the every other month method, that’s what I did, but it was too late because weeds had already started to grow.

So, I did some hand weeding & shook out more of the granules to deter more weeds, but then I lost several plants to deer, rabbits, etc. I gave up that season & put in different vegetables the next year & started using the Preen every week.

Then I ended up having to have surgery & there went that year’s crop! I still have a bottle & a half of the Preen for vegetables, but between bad health & nibbling animals, I only do container gardening now on my screened porch, so I have no need to use any sort of weed prevention.

Will you buy the product back?.

I have a small landscape design and installation business. I preen my clients 3 times, minimum. I am annoyed that you raised your product prices while using deceptive advertising on the size of container.

Prices went up 5. 00 per container yet each container weighs 1. 5 lbs less. Looks the same, thus being deceptive. I send out my yearly contracts in January with 3 rounds of preen. Each client now cost me more to preen since the average loss is 9 to 9.

5 lbs. Then 2 out of 6 containers had 2 scoops, thus SHORTING me more preen. 10 lbs minimum.

This product I have used for years! Excellent results to control my enemy, Mr. Weed! Keeps the tomatoes clear and beautiful. and productive. Also excellent in my rose beds. Leave it, forget it. and enjoy your time not weeding!.

I have used this to clear Texas Hill Country prickly pear cactus and it is devastating. I mixed it about 35:1 with pump Diesel for clearing fences and knocking down unwanted prickly pear cactus stands using a tractor and a large sprayer.

I sprayed a larger cactus stand, about 20′ x 6′ tall, and waited. In a couple of days the leafs showed signs of stress. In a week it looked very sick. In a month it was flat on the ground and dying to dead.

I sprayed that plant 5 years ago and it has not returned. The leaves dry up into gray dust and eventually wash away. This stuff works. Wear a respirator when spraying.

This stuff is superior to Roundup (nothing against good old Glyphosate, it has its place!) , as it offers extended control as well. Use caution around woody plants, especially trees, as it can harm them as it goes through bark.

Offers some extended protection as well. Great for poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Not sure about water resistance, so apply it sometime before rain or sprinklers so it has a chance to work.

Bought this stuff to use in combination with glyphosate to etadicate troublesome woody brush, etc. , around my house. So far it appears to work very well in eliminating elm, mesquite, and four winged saltbush.

These are not always undesireable plants but i dont want them in my yard. Remedy does not have the “drift” issues associated with 2, 4d based herbicides.

Preen is great, it works fairly well, preventing weeds from sprouting-up. When using it, one must be sure to spread it all evenly; don’t be afraid to use lots of it. It’s always a great idea to spread the Preen down 1 or 2 days before a rainy-day, water activates the Preen…either by natural-rain, or by a water-hose.

I always rely on the rain, and it works-out for me. The Preen works for 3 months, preventing most all weeds, it does a great job. I highly recommend using this style of Preen. 1 of these full-unopened containers weighs 18 pounds.

Please see the 6 attached photos I provided for this review…I bought 2 of these containers. I highly recommend this product. Lastly, these containers afterwards can be used as storage buckets or for whatever…they are made of high-quality and recyclable plastics.

The Preen is shipped via Walmart-boxes with plenty of protective-packaging surrounding it. I was highly impressed with the shipping-and-handling of these 2 products, I bought 2.

This works pretty well, and isn’t scary to put on food crops. It’s a natural product made of corn and while it doesn’t prevent Weeds perfectly, it definitely makes an important difference and reduces the number and size of weeds, and seriously reduces the maintenance workload in my veggie garden.

I like to put it around established onions, beets, carrots, and beans – the things that are so hard to weed and hoe around.

Oh yes. I love the stuff. I use it for shampoo, mouthwash, enemas , and wash the dog the car and dishes with it and drink 5 cups full 10 times a day. It is also good for putting in your IV, your ears, your eyes and washing your catheter before inserting it into your bladder.

You can also use it in soups and on salads so they wilt and you don’t have to digest them. Spray it everywhere like on all your favorite flowers, your garden and all of your prised fruit trees. You can also use it to bathe your prised fishes and use it in all your fish ponds and tanks to make all your pretty plants disappear.

you don’t need them to block the view of your fish anyway. You can even use it to vaccinate your children if you don’t want to get doctor recommended shots or make those RX companies fill their pockets.

This stuff is the greatest and I highly recommend it. I just love these surveys as they can really help others make good choices on what to buy and take all the guess work out of how to use it for best results.

I have recently used the Natria Grass and Weed Control with Root Kill. I live in Arizona and this has been a crazy spring for weeds as we have had a wet winter. Our yard is overrun with weeds and they are tough and desert-like.

I wasn’t sure about this brand as I was not familiar with Natria. This is easy to use. It comes with its own applicator/spray. You shake the bottle, open the cap and insert the end of the hose into the top.

once the hose part is hooked, you turn the nozzle to one of two positions (a wide spray or a direct squirt). The nozzle can be returned to the off position as well. The nozzle is squirted a few times and then the liquid is sprayed out.

I found the whole process easy. The hose stretches so you have some range away from the container (although a short distance). The spray function was fine for me. The biggest question with weed killer is did it kill the weeds? It reports it will be within minutes, however I found this to be true with small sized weeds but the larger ones did not immediately die.

Some required a second application as well. Again, this was for larger tough desert style weeds. Smaller weeds did shrink and turn brown. It was easy to pull them out/remove and I do believe it killed the weeds at the root.

I think this is a quality product. It works as intended. Some of my weeds required a little extra work, but I have found other products to be similar in comparison. So far no signs of weeds reappearing where the product has been sprayed so that is another plus.

This concentrate does exactly as it says, it clears the ground. I have used this twice now, about a week apart, and both times it has completely killed off all of the ground covering in the separate sprayed areas.

It works quick, and within 24 hours you can tell it is working, and within 48 hours the weeds and grass are mostly dead. The recommended rate is 10oz per gallon, I didn’t have a spare one gallon sprayer, so I did five ounces per half gallon.

This went somewhat quickly the first time, as I had a lot of weeds concentrated in my driveway and side yard. The second time lasted much longer as I wasn’t trying to cover a large concentrated area.

I was spraying cracks in sidewalks and curbing, fence line, and around the utility meters. My initial reaction was that there was no way this was super concentrate. It is rather thin and dark brown in color, and the other chemicals I use all mix at lower rates.

However, once I used this, I could tell why it is called super concentrate. Ortho Groundclear kills it all back. Bottom line, if you’re wanting to clear some space of grass or weeds this gets the job done well!.

The Ortho GroundClear Weed & Grass Killer on the whole is a wonderful and powerful product. Kills weeds and grasses efficiantly and effectively. I used the product for two project one was clearing weeds and a little grass on a pavestone walkway and drive way.

The GroundClear worked very well and quickly, it’s been just about a month and looks grear, not growth has returned. the other project was killing a 10×10 section of grass to then replant with sod. the kill was excellent and the ground appears ready for the sod.

No issues with concentrate mixing, however it would be simpler if it came premixed for large areas. Overall the product worked better than described and effectivly. I recommend this product for any ground clearing project of reasonablesize.
