20 Best Gas Grill For Under $500 (2023 Updated)

Major issues with the gas regulator. The one supplied uses a cheap plastic retaining ring near the hose that if its put under any stress (even mild stress), it gives way and allows gas to escape out the side.

I obtained a replacement from Weber, which I thought was great at the time (maybe i was sold a faulty one), but after installing the replacement and placing the tank back on its hanger, i could hear gas escaping again anytime the hose was not situated perfectly strait where it connects to the gas tank.

Propane will escape just next to the black screw on connector that you use to tighten the regulator onto the propane tank. This really seems like one of the places where you might not want to cut corners as having a gas leak in any circumstance could cause a fire / explosion.

At this point it appears as though i will have to obtain a decent gas regulator from another source since the model supplied (made in China), leaks way to easily. After a search online, I see others have complained about this same issue.

I can see a date on my replacement regulator (7/21) that may be its manufacture date. The grill works well for cooking, but can struggle to get to a suitable cooking temperature if the ambient outdoor temp falls below freezing, or has significant wind passing by.

Also if you attempt to move it, and lift it by the tray opposite the wheels to roll it, the tray can detach from the size of the grill, as its not sturdily secured with the hardware provided. This grill can also blow over in the wind if you put a grill cover on it as the base is not heavy enough to hold it by itself (I now weight it down since that happend 1x and left a dent in the lid).

Well I owned a Weber Silver ‘A’ and it was working fine. My wife decided I needed a new grill so she purchased a Spirit II E-310. I do like the extra burner though. I did have issues assembling E-310 though.

The tapped holes in the cast grill body had a burr on the trailing edge of the tapped hole and since I wasn’t at my shop where I have all the tools I need to do repairs and fix manufacturing mistakes, I ran a drill bit through the threaded hole and then used an adjustable wrench on the screwdriver to seat the screw completely.

Problem solved, you couldn’t see the screw head because it was covered by the burned knob plate. The second issue was the cheap aluminum guard over the opening for the drip pan. I needed to modify it by bending and trimming to make it fit correctly.

Again I think that may have been a casting issue, whatever it’s done. The last gripe I had was a marketing issue. For the life of me I don’t know why they used a sticker on the right hand shelf instead of a piece of cardboard with the marketing information.

There’s that little curved arrow printed on the corner of the sticker letting you know where to start peeling it off. Yeah right, the sticker started to delaminate and now I have a partial sticker on the shelf that looks like stainless steel but attracts a magnet.

I guess I need Goop and/or alcohol to remove what is left of it with out scratching it. We’ll see. As far as the grilling goes it’s a Weber do I need to explain? If I need to you wouldn’t understand.

My Silver A was 22 years old and was working fine and lasted a hour on the side of the road with a free sign on it. I gave it 5 stars because it’s a Weber. If there was two categories one for cooking quality and another for fit and finish quality the cooking would have been 5 stars and fit and finish would get 1 because I was upset that I had to make stuff fit and peel a sticker off.

So I bought my first Weber Genesis Grill this past Christmas to replace a 25-year old grill of a different manufacturer that I’d had since new. It was reliable as a rock, had 3 rebuilds over the years but the poor thing was ready to fall apart.

The Genesis grill was a terrific upgrade and gave me an idea of the quality of the Weber brand. We got a new travel trailer in January 2022 and we needed a reliable grill to take on our camping excursions.

Naturally, I started looking at a suitable Weber grill to fill that need. After much looking at all of the various “portable” models I decided on the Q1200 since we didn’t really need anything bigger since it’s just the wife and myself.

The Q1200 is a great little grill for our camping excursions. It’s neat and compact and it’s almost like they designed it to fit in the storage compartment of our Arctic Fox 25W camper. I did buy an aftermarket 8-foot braided stainless steel adapter hose to be able to use a 20# propane tank versus the 1# disposable canisters because of the ridiculous cost of the 1# canisters that are about 4X the cost of bulk propane.

The adapter hose still allows the use of the 1# canisters if that is what you have available without any modifications to the grill. Ultimately, I might modify the grill to hook up directly to the camper’s propane system, but that’s down the road.

The grill itself works great for 2-3 people though it loses heat very fast when the lid is opened to flip the burgers, hotdogs, chicken or steaks. You definitely have to cook with the lid closed. From my experience, you’ll get maybe 2-3 grill sessions out of a 1# canister so you’d better take several with you if that is your choice of fuel sources.

With the 20# tank it’s not much of a concern as you can lift the tank and readily tell if you have enough fuel for a camping trip. If it’s low, fill the 20# tank up for $10-$12 @ $3/gallon. Make sure you get spare aluminum pans to catch the drippings out of the bottom of the grill too.

They tend to blow away if it gets windy and they definitely are needed if you’re cooking steaks or chicken as the meat tends to drip A LOT!.

Excellent little grill for the most part, which reflects Weber’s consistency in excellent quality and overall design. The gas-control knob actually does regulate the flame very well to provide different cooking settings.

I have had other Weber grills (gas and charcoal) and they were all good investments for the money. My current purchase of the Q1200 portable grill has, so far, been a very good experience, but there are a couple of minor aspects of the product’s design that could use improvement.

First is my frustration in cleaning cast iron grates which constantly need attention to mitigate food residue and fat buildup. Coating the cast iron grates with a ceramic enamel coating only improves the cleaning process minimally.

Polished stainless steel grates, which for me, has been easier to clean, should be offered at least as an upgrade option. Second, the interior surface of the lower cook-box should be polished to a smoother finish in order to facilitate better drainage of food juices and debris to the little collection pan underneath.

Even with the current design being well-executed, buildup on the wall surfaces is still a problem. This clean-up issue has been experienced in my other grill (Weber ‘Spirit II’) as well, and may or may not be something Weber can reengineer economically.

But,. at he end of the day,. I’m still happy in my purchase. Weber continues to be the leader in grilling products. Thanks for listening.

Best feature: Curved, cast aluminum lid & body makes cleaning much easier than stamped steel with its corners & creases. The porcelain-coated, cast iron grates are also a plus–others use welded steel rod.

The grates are two-piece so they easily fit in the sink for cleaning. The fold-out side tables are handy for holding fixin’s, just don’t fold them in while the grill is hot. My unit heats up quickly to 550 degrees and cooking, so far, is very good with consistent temperature, although two burners would be nice.

I use a 20-pound cylinder, so no issues with attaching the small bottles. Other grills in this price range use low-grade stainless which discolors. check with a magnet. The burner control is easier to use than most and the sturdy structure remains solid in the elements.

My cheaper brinkman cover fits fine. A half-size griddle is available, but it’s expensive. If this table-topper lives up to Weber’s reputation for dependability, I look forward to many seasons of outdoor delights.

As stated above! Quality products (for the most part) but not worried about purchasing from WildBounds because they make it right if it isn’t JUST RIGHT!

Achteraf bleek dit onze beste beslissing van 2021. Wat een superfijne BBQ is dit zeg! We gebruiken de nomadiQ vrijwel dagelijks als we op pad zijn en koken er ook regelmatig op met pannetjes. Mijn vrouw vind binnen staan koken (in de camper) met warm weer vreselijk.

De nomadiQ gebruiken we als tafel BBQ en kooktoestel tegelijk (zie foto). Laatst met onze drie kleinkinderen naar het strand en daar de nomadiQ aangestoken. Ik ken geen BBQ die zo makkelijk mee te nemen is (over de schouder).

Met zijn 5,5 kg. en compacte vorm beschikt de nomadiQ toch over een vrij groot grill oppervlak. Je kan er dus prima met een groep mensen plezier van hebben. Al sik een minpuntje moet noemen is dat het schoonmaken achteraf.

Maar dat heeft eigenlijk elke BBQ / kooktoestel volgens mij. Tip, direct na het BBQ-en de ergste etensresten verwijderen en niet laten aankoeken.

Цена за 13к(фев 22) идеально, в интернете цены гуляют аж до 300$, но при цене более 35 уже имеет смысл полноценного гриля.

Сравнивать с дешевыми газовыми грилями за 3 тысячи смысла не вижу, это совсем другой продукт.

I ummed and ahhed about this during my research for a replacement BBQ, as quite expensive and also I’m not big on celeb endorsements. But having bought and used it quite a bit, I agree with a previous reviewer that Heston backed a winner with this! The thing I love most, apart from its good looks, is that it genuinely DOES heat up super quickly to a really high temperature (where required).

Searing meat has never been easier. Lovely char marks on the outside, but without over-cooking the inside. Also performs well with veggie items, eg halloumi, aubergine slices, courgettes, veg kebabs, etc.

My previous three BBQs, none of them particularly budget buys, suffered from the common syndrome of ‘hot spots’, whereby food cooks faster on one part of the grill than others. This one cooks very evenly, so there’s less need to ‘rotate’ items on the grill.

On a low setting with the lid down I’ve successfully done a slow-cooked leg of lamb wrapped in foil. There are some good videos on the internet that give cooking tips and hints for this model, worth looking up.

I bought the flat plate separately to give me the option for smaller/more delicate items and very pleased I did. Fish is a breeze, bacon and eggs for brunch on a sunny morning came out a treat. I agree with a previous review that it takes a few goes to fully get the hang of setting the temperature to suit different foods, but once you’ve got a feel for it it’s plain sailing.

It does take a wee bit of time and patience to construct, but the instructions are good and I’m not willing to knock off a star just for that. Worth the effort. Hands down the best BBQ I’ve owned.

I’m not one for product endorsements but Mr Heston has backed a hit. It’s the quality of the product that shines. When you assemble the BBQ you can tell that someone put a lot of care into the design, manufacture and quality control – every part fits nicely and it sturdy, its really well thought out.

I was taken aback by the quality after a lot of shoddy wobbly BBQs in the past, It was a pleasure to put together. Even the gas regulator is good quality. Cooking: It cooks fast thanks to the design (the burner is near the grills).

It comes with two standard griddle plates, I bought a flat plate (extra) to help with delicate stuff like veg etc. Meat sears quickly on griddle and then turn it right down. Get some silicone utensils (don’t use metal on cast iron).

One slight issue is that the gas control its hard to work out right temp, takes some practice. You have to use some nous to cook and do watch your food. The lid is incredibly robust but don’t leave lid down too long on even medium its going to get hot and burn your food.

Keep it low if lid is down, that seems to be the rule. Cleaning: This Everdure is really easy to clean, just need to take a bit of care – take out the drip tray, bucket underneath and plenty of soapy water, rinse.

Some great videos online for cooking and cleaning. Take out the griddles first, make sure they are warm and use a nylon brush (not metal) to scrum. Cons: The temperature control, the dials are oversensitive, just takes a bit of working out.

And the accessories are hard to get hold off – trays and grills etc.

Having owned mostly Weber grills I decided I wanted something different. I was really intrigued by a chef created grill and I purchased this about a year ago. This is a horrible grill, the design of the grates so that they can be close to the flame makes them very difficult to clean and I have to constantly take them inside to scrub them.

The heat of the grill is in the center, which has destroyed the enamel coating on the grate, and the outer sections do not heat equally. After a year I have come to the point that I hate using the grill and when my wife wants me to cook something outside, which I used to love to do, I only do it after much prodding.

We are thinking of moving and I expect that I will toss this lousy grill in the nearest dumpster since I hate it so much.

I just bought the Prestige 500 RSIB- stainless steel, and have cooked 3 meals so far with it. Assembly was fairly easy but you need two people from time to time during assembly. Overall, the grill is well built- The inner tub, being a one piece cast aluminum, will not rust out like my previous grills.

The burners are quite robust. The lid is very solidly constructed, and the side sear burner works great. Now on to the things that aren’t so great- The cooking grates, although they look pretty cool with the wave shapes, they never really get hot enough to do a proper job of grilling.

My first grill job was 8 pieces of salmon filet, and it took way too long to cook them. There are areas on the grill that are 80degrees cooler than other areas, so the surface temp is too variable. The burners are very narrow, and they don’t disperse the heat very well.

I noticed after careful examination that the four sear plates that sit atop the burners are actually sloped, so that the rear of the grill gets a bit hotter than the front. The intermediate sear plates ( 3 of them) fill the gaps between the burners, but they sit higher still and never get hot enough.

I took my laser heat thermometer around the entire surface and found wide variations in temp of the cooking grids. They need to redesign the burners so that the flames splay out wider, plus the distance between the burners and the grates is too far, so thats why the grates really never get as hot as they should.

So, if I re-engineered this, the burners should be A; wider to disperse heat better B; be set a bit closer to the grates, C: the spacing of the grate rods themselves should be a bit closer, and add more cross ties underneath the grates so that there is better heat transfer from one grate rod the next.

I cooked some burgers the second time I used it and once again, way too long to cook a burger. I know this grill has the infrared side burner for searing, but if you are cooking burgers for 6-8 people at once, thats not practical.

The grill is actually more like an oven than a grill, but who cooks burgers in an oven? I have double checked and triple checked everything about the setup and gas regulator etc etc. and found nothing wrong.

My suggestion to Napoleon is to come up with a better design of the burners and the sear plates that cover them. Make the new burners fit the existing grill models and make them available to previous owners.

Also don’t use plastic for the door handles. I’m not sure how long the fake chrome plating on the plastic will hold up.

Early Review – This grill has been exceptional. Have used the side searing burner, main burners and rotisserie burner so far and the results have been more than I hoped for. The side searing burner created the perfect steak, great crust.

Using the main burners it grilled onion slices to perfection. The rotisserie with the basket grilled chicken wings quickly and easily. Assembly was pretty straight forward. Youtube videos helped prepare for it but narration on the company videos would have been nice to steer around some of the questionable areas.

The unilingual (graphic only) assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. I appreciate they sell in many countries, but still a page of written details in several languages could have sufficed as an addition to the graphics.

Summary, Napoleon has all the features a dedicated griller needs and the price is reasonable compared to other high quality grills. The incorporated sear infrared side burner, high BTU/cook area mains and infrared rotisserie, plus the charcoal option make it a game changer.

The cast stainless grids on the Phantom are a primary reason to upgrade from the regular Prestige. One slight negative, the igniter on the side and rotisserie burner is not working, but am working this out with Customer Service.

Until replaced, using a long-neck lighter works easily. Main burner ignition is flawless. Product quality rating is 4 stars, but would rise to 5 when igniter issue is resolved.

This is a very nice grill! I have only owned one other gas grill, much smaller and inadequate BTU at my altitude of 7800′ above sea level. Gas grills tend to struggle a bit here however after seeing the overall burner design I thought it might fill the gap in my grilling needs.

I have a pellet grill which has fantastic flavor yet will only get up to about 400 degrees at my location. Not adequate for searing most meats. I have used the Napoleon grill a few times now and I am impressed with its speed of heating and overall function.

The build quality also seems better than many other grills and it should be given the cost of this unit. I also like the accessories that I was able to purchase with the grill like the charcoal/smoker tray although with winter coming on and the hazards of charcoal fires in my area I have not been able to make use of it yet.

My only criticisms so far are the the pictorial assembly instructions are a task to make sense of in detail and are in dire need of some verbiage added for clarity. This grill is definitely a “some assembly required” project in its shipping box and took me about 2 hours.

The other item that could be better expressed in the instructions is the set up for higher elevations such as mine. The burners closest to the regulator burned with black soot and smoke until I adjusted the airflow intake feeding them.

Luckily in my youth I was an apprentice plumber and had experience with these types of adjustments. Again, so far as my limited use, great grill overall, assembly and set up instructions could be improved upon significantly.

I assembled the grill from box, and the setup was easy; it took about and hour. I burned-in the grill as recommended, and some of the paint from the lid basically melted and fused itself to the body, and the paint bubbled in a few places.

I notified Char-Griller and they replaced it without hassle. This grill heats up FAST and HOT and can get a great char on a steak. WARNING: if you run all three burners on high, you will char all of your meat to a crisp! I bet this grill can hit 700 degrees.

I never cook above 500 degrees, so I virtually never run all three burners on high, instead I set my burners in the ballpark of what I want and then adjust on the fly, tweaking my temp to suit whatever I am cooking.

I cook burgers a LOT and run the grill a 450 degrees with two burners going at about medium high. The side burner is easy to use, I put a char on peppers and onions for fajitas, caramelize onions for burgers, cook bacon when I don’t wat to stink up the house.

My wife noted that the burner’s lowest setting is maybe a bit too high for cooking eggs in a cast iron skillet. Cleaning the grill is fairly easy since so many components are removeable. The drip tray is easy to pull out.

My only knocks on this grill is that the valve on the propane tank is blocked by the solid siding under the side burner, so it’s hard to get to and I can’t see the full/empty indicator. The wheel assembly is light weight.

I’d like to see it a bit heavier since you have to move the grill around to get at the grease tray and the propane tank. For the money, this is an AMAZING grill, and as long as Char-Griller continues to make it, I’ll continue to recommend it to friends and replace mine as needed.

This is a nicely designed medium-sized, yet, portable grill. The lowest flame is a lower searing temp, but it will cook large chicken legs slow enough to caramelize with very light charring and still get them fully cooked, when cooking on 4 sides.

perfect, in my opinion. I have noticed a few small portions of the grate run a bit hotter (over the ends of the burner), then a few are cooler (close to outer edge, front/rear). Temp variations are to be expected with most any gas grill, and I’ve used quite a few.

Use them to your advantage to speed up or slow down your cooking. The burner ignition can become unreliable, as it relies on flame to carry across in sequence to each gas port. After a dozen or so meals I need to clean the burner, as it hesitates to jump the flame all the way around to the front.

A medium bristle nylon brush and compressed air will do the job (on a cold grill). This is not an isolated issue with Weber or the Traveler. Every gas grill I’ve ever used has this issue, so don’t knock weber for a fault that is not theirs alone.

All the complaints about the lid latch unlocking while moving the grill. really??? Common sense will tell you to not over-tilt the grill while in motion in a manner that would cause this to occur. Not to mention, handle with care if you care about not damaging something.

Slow down, look at your walking surface, and think about what you’re doing. If you get in a hurry, expect issues. plain and simple. The manufacturer cannot control the user’s actions, especially if carelessness is likely to be a factor.

At best, additional user warnings could be added to the instructions. Overall, I have no buyers remorse. Weber has been in the business a long time and have created among the best, if not THE best, of my collection of outdoor cookers.

I own a 18. 5 Smokey Mountain with lower pan/grate mods & upgraded water pan, Smokey Joe 14 Kettle, 18. 5 OTG Kettle (sadly, discontinued) w/rotisserie & side fire baskets, 26. 75 OTG Kettle w/side fire baskets, and 10 or so non-weber medium to large LPG and charcoal smokers, grills and fryers (just in last 20 years).

For those unfamiliar, OTG (one touch gold} is the gen-1 integrated ash removal/air intake control with semi-enclosed removable ash receptacle, stainless grates, etc, so I’ve been on the “dark side” for a while.

If you really want a portable tailgating or camp grill that functions well (as a self-contained grill), this is probably as good as they get. In comparing with a major competitor’s design, the tube burner design and mostly open-grate of the weber will out-perform the round “camp stove” burner with a grill/griddle plate hands down.

No, it does not have a high lid for whole birds or large roasts. this isn’t what a true portable grill is designed for. The Traveler is designed to do what they say: use less fuel – probably due in part to it’s lower profile lid and fire-box – less space to heat uses less fuel.

It is efficient enough to slow-sear at 20* ambient with low flame. You can stack nearly cooked food on top of other food (and close the lid) until it’s all ready, so, if no warming grate is your hang-up, I suggest you rethink your methods.

If it won’t fit into your RV cargo bay you may need to get a little creative in how you stow other gear and/or this grill. I may find it a bit of a challenge myself. I’ve been too busy getting to know and enjoy my grill that I haven’t tried to stow it, yet.

It will be worth the extra effort, as I’m not going to our camp and off-road trail rides without my Weber. Lastly, with all the adversities which have come to our nation’s industries and business in general, Weber is STILL made in USA.

I support America when ever I can. Ask yourself if you want to buy from China, then, ask yourself if the cost savings is worth the compromise, because a compromise is what you’ll get, including warranty and CS.

I’m replacing a built-in rv grill with this weber because after just 3 weeks of camp & rides I’m not willing to compromise with a marginally functional grill anymore. I enjoy my solutions for outdoor cooking!.

Two big, big flaws this grill has makes this product a no go until its addressed. Flaw #1 The locking mechanism when the grill is folded is not strong enough to keep the lid closed when the grill is upright.

Once you fold the grill up and you’re not too careful the lid will open and the grates will come crashing down, It has happened to me like 15 times within the past two months and is infuriating; Im going to have to get a bungee cord to keep it shut but I shouldn’t have too after spending a decent amount of money this grill.

Flaw #2 I would definitely not recommend buying and using one pound cylinder propane to use this grill. I had to get an exchange on a this particular grill because I carefully put a one pound propane cylinder to use this grill, after I tried to remove the propane cylinder it would not unscrew, we kept trying and trying to unscrew tank, but it ultimately broke other parts of the grill.

I read multiple other reviews experiencing the same exact problem. You will need to spend an extra 40 bucks and get an extension hose adapter and only use 15lb propane tanks. This grill is such a disappointment, it could be great but the quality falls flat.

I purchased this grill about 3 months ago and it’s been a solid performer in both warm and cold weather. – Setup was very straight forward and easy straight from the box – The hydraulic spring is a nice add as it prevents the grill from dropping when compressing for travel.

– The auto-locking mechanism is great for preventing the lid from opening too. which was a real issue with my last travel grill. – NOTE: There is really only one heat setting on this grill (High), so if your looking to mainly use this to cook meats and veggies on 450 to 550 then it works excellent.

If you need to have something with the ability to put it on warm or low heat, then you’ll have an issue. – IMPORTANT: Must use a Weber brand connection hose otherwise this grill will not work. I initially purchased a hose from Home Depot which had a slight bevel on the copper connection to the grill, but this grill “requires” a FLAT connection for the gas to flow.

KUDOS: The support follow up on this grill is why I’ve given this 5 stars instead of 4. Seriously some of the best follow up I’ve ever received on ANY product I’ve every purchased. I was surprised (pleasantly) for sure, so know that they will have your back if anything goes wrong.

I will most certainly will be purchasing a Weber for my next grill purchase whenever that may for this very reason.

Scroll to end for quick bottom line When we built our home 9 years ago, we had the contractor install a NG outlet on the patio for a future outdoor kitchen. That kitchen never got built. In those 9 years I’ve been through 2 22″ Weber Kettles and a BabyQ.

After dealing with propane bottles, refills, charcoal, the rain, etc. I finally decided to treat myself. I’ve had my G2 S335 for only a couple of weeks now. I opted to order it direct from Weber. The assembly was easy, and the instructions were superb.

I’m confident in saying that this will end up being the best grill I have ever owned. Now I’m mechanically inclined and posses the tools so if you’re not or lack confidence then I would recommend purchasing through a dealer who can assist with the assembly.

REVIEW: The components are well made and “commercial” grade. The steel material and guage are commercial quality. The burner pieces are easily accessible for cleaning and replacement. The NG hose is well long enough, which was very welcome.

(I required one quick trip to the hardware store to purchase a 1/2″ to 3/8″ adapter). The under cabinet is roomy and also welcome to hold all my utensils, mitts, cleaner etc. Two wheels swivel and two wheels are stationary that allow for easy “parallel” type parking.

The side burner is a nice add, although the lowest setting is still high and doesn’t allow for slow simmering. The thermometer appears to be commercial grade quality also and reliable. So far. All of the components are easily accessible for servicing and replacement.

NG vs LPG. (I’m NG so I NEVER have to worry about bottles again!) 2. 4 burner or 3. If you have a large family and do a lot of volume cooking go with the 4 burner. 3. SMART GRILL OR NOT? After only a couple weeks of use I regret not going Smart.

Since you are spending the money, go Smart. I’m going to retrofit mine and since it can be. 4. FUTURE : I’m going to purchase the rotisserie. 5. The Weber covers are pricey and got bad reviews. I purchased the King Kong, saved some bucks and am pleased with its quality and fit.

Bottom Line This is one of those “How have I ever done without it” purchases.

Really high quality construction and materials. Ease of maintaining the proper cooking temperature across the grilling area such that the food is cooked evenly. I purchased a lower cost grill two years ago and the cooking temperatures were impossible to regulate properly and varied significantly across the grilling area.

The lower cost grill was starting to rust and degrade after only two years of use. I completely cleaned the lower cost grill after each use and it still rusted after just two years. The Weber Genesis II unit that I purchased had been a display unit and had two parts missing as brand new.

The Weber customer service immediately sent replacement parts and my grill is now complete – really impressive customer service. The Weber Genesis II features that I like are the quality construction and materials, the ease of obtaining the proper cooking temperatures especially across the grilling area, and the ease of cleaning up after cooking.

Other features such as the propane tank level, side burner, searing area, and the ease of moving the grill from the under cover parking spot on my patio to out in the open for cooking. The difference is night and day between the lower cost grill and the Weber Genesis II grill.

This is my 4th Weber grill in 34 years (but to their credit one–grill #2 is still in use at my mom’s house–I just gifted it to her when I moved out of state). I am constantly pleased by the quality and customer service offered by Weber.

A few years ago I called to replace my grates as they had rusted out in my central Florida (humid) weather and my weekly use of the grill. Even though the grilles were a few *years* out of warranty (I was calling to order new grill grates) the customer service rep told me “they sill shouldn’t do that” and she sent me two new grill grates–covered.

My Weber grills last me about 11 years of (very) frequent use. I would not even consider another grill. When I go to the in-laws and I am tasked to man their grill it makes me appreciate my Weber even more.

The Weber does not have hot spots. It has a consistent and even temperature. The heavy lid keeps the heat in, etc etc. Yes-the other grill was 1/3 the cost of a Weber but they are replacing theirs every other Father’s Day.

Directions with the grill are very easy to follow. I like that the screws and/or attachments for each step are separately bagged so I know I am using the right screws. I am not facing a mass of 30-40 parts and I have to sort through them to make sure I have the right fittings.

You only need a cross-point screwdriver for assembly (and a razor knife for packing). My *only* request would be that Weber denote on the instructions the size of the wrench used for the 10-12 bolts that require tightening.

They supply a small wrench–but the bolts (especially for the side table supports) are in a tight spot–I used a small ratchet driver to tighten mine up–using that 6″ wrench they supplied would have taken 2-3 minutes per bolt.

VERY securely packed. All the panels are in separate plastic bags to prevent scratches, The fittings are in heat sealed baggies and appropriately marked for each step of assembly. Not really a dig–but–there was so much cardboard and packing with my grill that it filled two of my giant wheeled recycling bins.

Took me two weeks to get rid of the materials–but I suppose that made sure everything was in perfect condition when I got it. Very impressed. My last grill purchase was in June of 2010 (a Genesis II) and I was a concerned that the company had been forced to change with the times and cut corners here-and-there to stay competitive.

They have not at all and they are still put out a top-notch product. Bravo.

Overpriced grill that lacks quality material. I’ve owned this for a year now and have cooked throughout the seasons. This cooks well enough, and seems to keep a decently even temperature in the middle and rear.

Though the front tends to cook cooler. My issues are with the quality of the exterior. The stainless components are an incredibly cheap form of “stainless. ” Unless you clean after each use with recommended cleaner and microfiber cloth it will stain and discolor.

Which seems ridiculous for an outside grill. Which I also keep covered. There is much better quality stainless material available and for the price, this grill shouldn’t be that delicate. The painted lid isn’t much better.

The “porcelain-enameled” cast iron grates are “meh,” they require just as much upkeep and care as regular cast iron. My issue is with how thick the grates are, it just increases the surface area that is going to stick to your food.

If they were about half the thickness they would probably be better. Overall, I expected better quality and less delicacy for the price and from Weber, though it does cook decently. For the next question on the form, “would you recommend this product to a friend?” Yes, but only if you buy it heavily discounted, it certainly isn’t “quality” for the full MSRP.

This is my second Spirit II grill. The first one was great but after 8 years of my neglect and the wet weather in Florida – it finally rusted beyond repair (although one burner still worked). Most of the rust was on the inside of the doors that contained the gas cylinder and around the small wheels underneath.

This time I bought on with the ability to hang the gas on the outside and it has 2 larger wheels on one side instead of 4 small ones under the main grill – it seems less affected by the wet, humid weather.

Its also easier to hang the propane cylinder on the outside beneath the permanent shelf on the right side. Note that only the shelf on the left side folds down. The grill starts up like a champ and with the two burners on high can reach 450° F in a few minutes.

It has enough room on the cooking grills to cook enough “meat” for probably 8 hungry people. So unless you think you will be barbecuing for the entire neighborhood – you can buy this two burner instead of the larger 3 burner.

Overall it’s a great, well made gas grill that sells for a very reasonable price. It’s also important to know that buying replacement parts and extra add-ons is easy to do either on line or at major home repair stores.

A really well made BBQ. Able to set it up on my own. Have used it about twice a week since it arrived. Have done traditional BBQ and also used it to smoke beef, pork and chicken using the roasting rack and a small stainless steel smoker box (that was only $10 from Bunnings) with a couple of different types of wood chips.

Very easy to clean both inside and grill trays – but have sink big enough to soak grill trays for a while. I do highly recommend this BBQ. Now for minor quibbles. First, it was impossible when I purchased mine to get the colour I really wanted – orange.

It is used the most in advertising, but does not seem to be enough produced. Second, when smoking the temperature with the minimum gas setting on one burner was higher than I wanted – results were still good, but had to adjust smoking time.

Lastly, putting the cast iron trays back in properly after cleaning can be fiddly. I’m getting better at it, but if there is a nice way, it would be good to have a short video or instructions. I do recommend getting the roasting rack and the cover.

No regrets getting this BBQ even though I really would have liked the orange coloured top.

Overall A sturdy well-built grill with a unique design that allows removal from the stand for portable grilling. I don’t think I’ll find myself grilling on a mountain top off the tailgate of my truck, but knowing that I can with this grill is pretty awesome.

The grill itself heats and cooks very quickly, so much so that the majority of the time I’ve used the lowest heat setting to cook everything from hamburger patties, hot dogs, sausage links, carne asada, and fire-grilled chicken.

For those that may be more versatile in their grilling may find that the lack of an upper grill is a slight disappointment. I’ve used the other half of the grill with the burners off to get a similar result for bread and jalapeno poppers.

But after a quick search, I learned that Everdure offers a separate grill tray that covers this area. A slight disappointment to say the least. That said, there were a small number of hiccups with this grill that I’ll further explain.

For starters, I’m also aware that some package inconsistencies were mentioned in the accompanying product material, the instructions could use a bit of clarifying. Better explanations of some of the parts such as the metal rods that are apparently supposed to be bent to fit.

The details surrounding the screws that fix the grill top to the stand. This was the most problematic for me as I noticed it after I was almost done assembling and had to pull it off to confirm the pre-installed “stated” screws were in fact not there.

They came in the bag with all the other screws/washers. As mentioned above, however, there was some additional documentation that mentioned it may come in packaging not consistent with the retail version.

Aside from the instruction inconsistencies, I noted a limited number of craftsmanship issues. For instance, 1 of the aluminum legs wasn’t properly drilled to spec with the top plastic molding. It was off by a few millimeters which made assembly impossible without some modifications.

Another issue arose from the top rack which screws into the support beams that support the main aluminum legs. Another few millimeters for it to screw in properly. The last, more of a design flaw, the screws/washer combination included to hold the handle is not good.

The fiberglass washers don’t do much other than preventing some scratches. I had to add some lock washers to help the handle held in place. Otherwise, after a few openings and closings of the hood, the handle would begin to wiggle.

All issues aside, the grill is an amazing product if you are willing to change your grilling style. The option of removing the grill top from the legs to take it on the road is a huge plus. The biggest downside is the meticulous cleaning (right after you finish while still warm) required after each use.

Makes me not want to use it except for when we are grilling for a large group. If grilling a steak or 2, this becomes a pretty big issue.

What I like – heats up fast and to a high heat, BBQ plates easy to remove and clean, interior easy to clean. I liked the unusual mint green colour. What I don’t like – large gap at the back allows water and vermin to enter the BBQ (full of rat dirt recently, ugh, I now use a non stick BBQ liner rather than cooking direct on the plate).

Tray underneath is plastic. It looks unattractive and appears flimsy. Metal utensils not recommended by manufacturer (highly unusual for a BBQ). Plates are incredibly frustrating to place – I spent 15 minutes yesterday trying to get them to sit correctly and evenly.

BBQ is also extremely bulky overall given the small size of the cooking surface. I bought online and would probably not have purchased if I had seen first in store.

After reviewing several gas grilles and even a couple pellet grilles, we decided on the Rogue 525 and brought it home this week. After the initial burn in and seasoning of the grates, we enjoyed a nice first meal on the grille of garden fresh zucchini and onion along with garden fresh basil topped sirloin burgers.

The grille performed wonderfully with easier than expected temperature control. My only complaint is the small caster wheels so typical of gas grilles these days. They roll fine on concrete or asphalt.

But otherwise are a real pain to use.

The iPhone assembly app is very good and complements the paper guide. With three exceptions the assembly is quite easy. The paper guide and the app differ in a few places. Installing the top brackets for the doors is poor.

It is very difficult to get the nuts screwed in. This really needs a redesign. The retainer clip for the propane hose is unacceptable. It is a cheap piece of plastic that does not fit properly into its socket and does not stay in place.

We have yet to use the grill but the quality of most of the parts and their construction are impressive.

Cons: The upper grate seems like an after thought, its pretty useless and just plain flimsy. also there are infarct some hot spots on the grill, mainly closer to the back panel, not insane but prominent enough to likely get worse of over time.

Pros: It gets hot, fast, and steaks love this cast iron wavy grate. especially since i cook 3-4in. thick steaks on this thing. so far seems to be pretty gas efficient, but I’m still a trainee on Gas grills (need a quick fix vs charcoal).

the build quality is very good, the catch, the whole thing, i love it though its made in PRC (cmon Napoleon).

We have used it once two days ago. We bought it bc it is electric and didn’t want our natural gas grill that is locked up to be used by renters. We made BBQ’d shrimp on well-soaked wooden skewers. They were delicious! The grill is on the covered deck of our townhome that is in the rental pool.

We only go there once/month. My beef is with the cart assembly. Hours later, my eyes glazed over trying to assemble it. Anyone assembling a cart should put the wheels on FIRST, not SIXTH and should also look at all of the instructions before going to the YouTube video re: assembly where the cart is already assembled.

The YouTube video is VERY confusing. Because the grill is being used for a rental unit, I purchased a 10′ chain and padlock to ensure that our new, cute little grill would not go home with one of our renters.

Do watch the YouTube about how to clean your grill so that you can get the heating element out, thereby facilitating all cleaning. That said, the cleaning YouTube video recommends using oven cleaner to get off baked on residue and the manual is very clear that one should not do that.

Some clarification from Weber would be helpful. There are some instructions in the manual, but the YouTube is pretty good. I expect to be cleaning it my self each time that we visit every month when we have rentals.

My sister cleaned the grill out and didn’t know how to get the heating element out. She lined the bottom of the grill with foil that can protect the unit from lots of extra cleaning. She reported that the grilling plates themselves were super easy to wash.

They are small (heavy) and very removable. It would be nice if Weber would add the side shelves that fold into the propane unit. That said, I already had a caddy for BBQ tools that serendipidously hang off the left handle of the grill.

I also had a protective BBQ mat to place beneath the grill to protect our deck.

We moved to a new house with a small deck right outside the kitchen. We’ve had gas and charcoal grills before and I wanted something that didn’t involve coals or propane. I am SO glad I chose this grill.

I’ve never been the griller before in the family, but this grill so easy to use and everything I’ve cooked has come out perfect. I absolutely love it. We are three pretty big eaters in our house and the grill size works for us.

We don’t eat red meat so I haven’t tried a steak, but I’ve done turkey burgers, chicken thighs, all kinds of veg, naan bread, pineapple, fish, portobello mushrooms. Everything comes out great. Cleanup is easy.

We’re still using the same drip pan liner that came with the grill – just wipe it out and re-use – but replacements are easy to find and inexpensive. I ordered the grill cover at the same time and it was transported by literal snails, I think, whereas I received and was using the grill within three days of ordering it, so I had to bring the grill in every night if there were any chance of rain.

I should have ordered the cover from the establishment that offers Prime shipping. But 10/10 recommend this little grill.

I recently scrapped my beloved 7 year old 5 burner Char Broil for this model. I essentially burned the old one out, using it pretty consistently about 4 – 5 times per week. This is an excellent BBQ. Of great importance, it cleans easily.

The stainless grate still marks meat. It seems to be well manufactured. My only problem is that the hottest I can get the grill is 500 degrees. I can get grill lines but I can’t char my Porterhouse. I have told Char Broil that I felt duped because the temperature gauge on the hood goes to 650 degrees so I assumed the 4 burners would take me there, close to the 700 degrees on my old 5 burner, but they won’t.

In response to my question as to why do they put a temperature gauge that goes to 650 if the BBQ will only go to 500, he told me if you put foil on the bottom it could take it higher (I do, but it doesn’t), or grease could flame and make it hotter (it doesn’t) and that it’s better to cook meat on a lower temperature (true, but I like a char on the outside before lowering the heat to cook the inside).

I wish I could easily exchange this for a 5 burner with a searing station but then I’d have to go back to the cast iron grills which are harder to clean, chip and rust. The hassle of making the exchange isn’t worth it.

I’ve adapted to my new grilling constraints and have accepted mediocrity as we are often dished out by corporate America. My Porterhouses are acceptable but no longer are they “extraordinaire”. Having investigated further, I know I need more BTUs, not a misleading temperature gauge.

Yes, I still feel duped.

I rented a vacation cabin and it had this grill for me to use over my 7 day stay. So I don’t own one but I will but I did give it a huge test drive! I grilled every day for the full 7 days, cooking everything from PRIME cuts of Ribeye, T-bone “top shelf” steaks, lots of chicken and lots of burgers and dogs.

I am not new to grilling and lets just say, the newer grills over the last few years do not impress me. No, I can not say how long this grill will last as again, I was only a heavy user of this fine product for 7 days but I will say, it is one of the best if not the best cooking grills I have ever used at any purchase price over my 35 years of grilling.

This grill has enough heat to properly sear a steak. The grate design cooks and cleans well and gives my steaks the proper pro looking grill marks! I have a newer competing brand grill at home and I purchased a smaller grill to save space, big mistake as I find I needed higher BTU’s like this Char-Broil has.

When I walked into a local Walmart while I was on that vacation my jaw dropped when I noticed just how inexpensive the grill I had been using at the cabin was! I expected this grill to be 4x to 6x the price based on how well it cooked alone.

This grill is a fantastic value at this mega low price as I have had grills 6x the price that may be made a bit thicker ( not much but some perhaps) construction but cooked no better or perhaps not as well.

Fantastic cooker, you will impress at your next BBQ! The vacation home also had a grill cover and I use covers on my grills to help make them last and suggest always buy the cover and buy grill grate cleaner spray and a brush and it will look like new after you cook.

Truly one of the better grills I have ever used at any price!.

The first two or three cooks were great. After that, the grill doesn’t have enough heat to warm up a hot dog. I purchased this grill because we are in a rental house during construction of a new house.

I figured it would be a good thing for 16 months but barely got by 2 months. I’ve done everything that I can find to do. The website offers NO HELP or support. You can buy parts and accessories all day long, but to find out why the unit does not heat is a no go.

I have checked for flow valve issues and vapor lock but nothing works. It worked one weekend and not the next. Please don’t ask if the propane tank is low!.

Overall a decently built product considering it is designed for transcontinental shipping and simplified assembly with minimal tools. But it’s quite evident it’s made in China. The firebox rear frame assembly was bent in transport and I had to straighten it out and touch up the black finish for it to be properly assembled.

The base is rather flimsy and tweaks the front doors’ alignment if not perfectly leveled. The wheels don’t swivel very well when redirecting movement. The warming rack rocks unevenly but I won’t dare try and straighten it as that will crack and destroy the porcelain finish.

The manual is good for assembly but pretty much stinks for use. Information is not organized well or consolidated by category. Also, there is no mention anywhere that this comes with the cast iron griddle.

I ordered one as an option only seeing it listed as an accessory and in the parts diagram. Will Charbroil own that oversight and accept a return without shipping and 20% restocking fee? Those would eat up 3/4 of the refund.

How does it cook? It heats up fast and has pretty consistent heat distribution. I measured a maximum delta of 60 degrees F between various points using a laser thermometer. I like that the cooking grate lines up and protects the vents in the heat diffuser from grease and food debris falling in.

This thing really does smoke. I read that in other reviews but had no idea a grill could do much. Vaporized grease drippings off of the stainless diffuser are more prolific than off the ceramic bricks in my last grill.

Also, and very worth noting, the flavor this imparts on the food is not what you’re used to from your typical grill. It’s not a flame broiled flavor at all. It is grease vaporized off a searing hot piece of metal and tastes exactly like that.

I’ve only cooked steaks and burgers so far and the burgers, while cooked perfectly, were not crowd pleasers due to that flavor. The steaks weren’t as tainted though They we’re my first good on this and I should’ve had it set hotter to get a better crust before hitting the internal Target temperature.

I know I will adjust to a degree but it might not be enough. I might not have bought this if I’d been able to taste test it first. I anticipate this will do well with chicken breast, fish or slow and low ribs.

Not fatty and prone to drying out. I fear chicken thighs will taste just as ‘off’ as the burgers did. I do believe I can de-rate this from the “Tru-infrared” to a traditional if we can’t warm up to it (see what I did there).

Your mileage, and preference, may vary. In summary, if I had paid anything more than half the MSRP for this, I think I wouldn’t be as forgiving. I might still sell it on that greasy flavor alone if it doesn’t improve or if I can’t adjust cooking to reduce it.

I’m optimistic but so far, meh.

Avoid any Char-Broil “Infrared” grill. These “Infrared” grills are designed so that all of the grease and drippings from the meat fall directly onto the infrared plates. These plates must be thoroughly cleaned after each use otherwise the holes for the heat will clog.

They are horrible to clean. To make matters worse, the porcelain coated grates are also extremely difficult to clean because you can’t use a wire brush. You also have to remove both the grates and the infrared plates to do more cleaning underneath.

To make it clear, you have to spend a couple hours cleaning every time you use the grill. This makes the Char-broil Infrared grills arguably the worst designed grill in history. Gas grills are supposed to be for convenience, and the Infrared is anything but convenient.

Char-broil advertises the Infrared grills as “stainless steel. ” These are not stainless steel. They will rust. After several uses I stopped using the grill completely because I don’t want to spend hours cleaning it after every use.

It takes less than a minute to clean a good gas grill with a wire brush. I had to use the grill to find out how bad it was, and then since I used it I couldn’t return it. To make matters even worse, Char-Broil gaslights and blames the customer when they point out these issues.

I contacted the Char-Broil customer service over this and got nowhere. This grill is the worst purchase I’ve ever made. Wasted over $400 on a piece of junk.

A primary selling feature for purchasing a new bbq was a stainless steel grill, which has proven difficult to find at a reasonable price. Most grills are now cast iron/porcelain coated. This was the only bbq that we found under $1,000 with a stainless steel grill.

BTUs are a bit on the low side and we were concerned that it might not generate enough heat to sear steaks and do other high-heat cooking. After using a few times we find that with the lid closed this bbq pre-heats quickly to the thermometer maximum 650 degrees.

There are some spots that generate more heat than others. Heat mapping becomes evident through use. Searing steaks isn’t a problem and we’re very happy with this purchase. Of note, on the side of the grill that’s been used most often for cooking at higher temperatures, the shelf and front of bbq is already discoloured from heat.

Wondering how this will play out over time since it’s been used only a handful of times so far.

Here is a long story bare with me please. Back in July 2011, I purchased a CharBroil Red Grill, with the concave trough style emitters. I still have it to this day, but it needs some repairs now. The Red grill still works great.

Now, on July 19, 2022 I purchased the signature series amplifire, 4 burner, just like my Red Grill. I just cooked on it today, July 24, 2022. We cooked steak. We are EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. The steak got charred and burnt on the ends, when we tried to sear the meat.

This NEVER happened with my RED grill. I will not recommend this product to anybody. You should have not gotten rid of the old trough style design. The wavy aluminum emitters are a garbage. I am not satisfied, but how would I get my money back since I purchased directly from the CharBroil website? Or is there a conversion for the new grill design to fit the old style troughs? Or can I return it to a local merchant?.
