20 Best Far Side Cartoon All Time (2023 Updated)

If youre a fan of quirky humor, this collection is the bomb! I love it, even though sometimes its challenging to get the joke. These books are like new, look like theyve never even been opened, and they are printed on beautiful paper, so heavy that I had to have my husband pick up the collection.

Its really fine, and price and shipping time were amazing!.

What’s not to like? A compendium of the work of one of the all time cartoon greats. A thing to be treasured. One tiny quibble – the need to include all his work means many frames are smaller than would ideally be (thinking of his previous anthologies).

Still, size isn’t everything.

Because I am single vision, viewing is an issue because the images are so tiny in the books. However, tiny Images, on the other hand, are understandable, considering the thousands of drawings enclosed.

Otherwise there would be many more than 3 volumes in the set.

I used to have this book a long time ago and was glad to find it again. At one time you could find Far Side greetings cards and it’s such a shame Gary Larson stopped doing them. This book makes me laugh out loud the perfect antidote to our current lockdown world.

Great, well produced and funny book. Packed with Larson cartoons in full A4 size. Recommended.

Dirty book , should not be described a in good condition as this is an innacurate description

This is the first of a series of five books, and I read them over and over and over. Wish the author, Gary Larsen would come up with more of his crazy ideas to publish another book. I buy all five of these books and give them as gifts, over time, from the first to the fifth, for friends and family.

Funniest cartoons I’ve ever seen. If I could give this book 100 stars, I would!.

If This collection of cartoons from Mr. Larson does not have the sides of your belly splitting then you should be checked to see if you are absent a sense of humor. These single strip cartoons pack more comedic punch than any other comic around lengthy or not.

I find myself reading these again and again. There is never a reason to get rid of this book. It can be picked up after short or long periods of time and be just as effective with the funny! Enjoy as I am sure you have no choice.

Gary Larson has always been my favorite cartoonist. the Far Side Gallery 3 is a great compilation of his work. Whether I look at this book one page at a time or I just look at random pages, I always find things that make me laugh out loud, and find things that can make a bad day a better day.

These cartoons are a gas. I’m totally glad to have purchased this collection.

These are copies of the same books I have. I bought them for my grandson (all 5 Gallery books and the Pre-history. ) How can you describe the off-beat brilliant humor of Gary Larson? I wanted this to go down two more generations.

His humor is timeless. I’m 73 and I’ve been following comics since “Pogo”. This strip along with Calvin & Hobbes, which run at the same time, are just genius.

Thrilled Gary Larson is back. I have enjoyed the Far Side for ages. Brought MANY smiles to see his POV again.

I watched some of the cartoons and they are not as violent as some that I have seen; not speaking about this set. They were some nice cartoons.

This 12 Disc Set Is Really Great It Contains 10 Of The Van Beuren Tom And Jerry Cartoons

packaging is very flimsy–the box wants to break apart-. too much weight in discs-the three stooges cartoons are not complete. they were originally a combination live action and cartoon animation-the live action has been removed from the cartoon-disappointed –worth watching if you’re a big fan of vintage cartoons-A BABY BOOMERS DELIGHT.

Excellent christmas gift. Great value for money, looking forward to giving.

C’Mon it’s the Far Side!!! What’s good clean humor told in Larsen’s way worth?

Advertised as 7 volumes. Only one volume arrived.

This is an absolute favorite of mine. My son had it while growing up and now I bought the book for my grandson. From a worm family point of view, we are reading and learning about the relationship between humans and nature.

Lets just say. it has a surprise ending.

great humorous explanation of difference between just “loving” nature and understanding our ecosystem. while the cartoon drawings may appeal to small children, the story is actually for older children.

The ones who giggle at potty humor and gross stuff.

Yes, That Gary Larson, of The Far Side fame, pulls up a story of an earthworm who is sick and tired of being a worm! When his mother serves him another dinner of dirt. the final straw is a hair in his dirt dinner! Father earthworm tells a story.

which turns out to be an ecological tale, of a fair maiden who does things that fair maiden do in fairy tales. but with consequences you wouldn’t think of! Definitely a story that a pre-teen age boy would think is gross but funny, and pre-teen girls would scream and think gross! Not for little kids because of the gross ending.

but it does have a moral or two along with bizarre entertainment!.

What an unbelievable book! This is a dream come true for fans of The Far Side! In it, you will witness: 1. Gary Larson’s strange childhood. 2. Nature’s Way, a sort of early version of The Far Side that appeared in The Seattle Times.

3. Gary Larson’s creative process, which is very creative indeed! 4. A sketchbook of drawings and ideas that never made it past the initial stage, including some that would definitely have been winners.

5. Background stories on certain panels and random ideas. 6. Mistakes that either Gary or the newspaper editors made. Some of these are unbelieveable! Prepare to bust a gut! 7. Subtleties which make him wonder why he did certain things.

Things he wished he wouldn’t have done and things he wished he would have done. 8. Public responses to some of his more controversial and/or confusing panels. This features a very cool reply to all of his critics.

9. Rejected cartoons; the weirdest of the weird and the grossest of the gross. Some were obviously not going to be printed and some will make you wonder why they weren’t. The times are definitely a-changin’! 10.

The Exibit: some of Gary’s personal favorites. Interesting choices. As I stated earlier, this is an ABSOLUTE MUST OWN for anyone who is a fan or can appreciate a little weirdness now and then. Your Far Side collection is not even close to being complete if you don’t buy this book! (and yes, that includes The Complete Far Side, which is far from complete).

This is a great book for people who are fans of Gary Larson and his bizarre Far Side creations. Here he tells the story of his career, how he began cartooning, his early successes and failures and how he finally got his big break.

He discusses some of the public reaction to his work and reveals sketches from his notebook that show ideas that made it in a slightly different form, and ikdeas that were better left buried. And at the end he shares some of his favourites.

A very informative, interesting, and of course, funny read.

This is a must for all FAR SIDE fans. Larson hasn’t written anything new in years but this book makes you laugh. It is biographical and tells how Gary Larson got into cartooning, how he got his ideas, and how the comic grew into a cultural icon.

Well worth the investment.

This book is named after the cartoon on the cover, which is, indeed, Wiener Dog Art. The rest of the book is great Far Side/Gary Larson cartoons, not particularly about Wiener Dogs- still LOL funny.

When you purchase this book do not be misled by the Title of Weiner Dog Art thinking that is all that will be in here. It is a collection of Far Side comics and in the middle of the book is a section with a few color weiner dog art peices and a story to go with each one.

There is one that is impressionism and it tells the story of how someone paid millions of dollars for it but it’s valued at $25. I am not totally sure the Weiner dog section is really for real. They all look like Far Side characters/drawings just in color.

If you like Far Side books to add to your collection then certainly buy this book. If you were looking for a book full of Datson or Weiner dog art then you will be sadly disappointed and you may wish to steer clear of this book.

I love it. Gary Larson has an awesome sense of humor and this book is hilarious! I have Dachshunds (Wiener dogs) which it even funnier to me!

Delivered as promised, Gary Larson’s collected Series in a full-sized format, very happy to have it, essential reading for Gary Larson fans everywhere. An absolutely unique genius, this type of humor is absolutely essential in these terrible times in which we live.

With rumors swirling that Gary Larson will be re-starting online, I wanted to introduce my daughter to this gem. Plus, I wanted to ramp up on the collection before the new ones arrive. As usual Mr. Larson’ genius is in every single comic.

Hilarious observations parallel the ridiculous twists on them, from the Tiger feeding on zebra restaurant to the chair that “just isn’t safe” I loved reliving this perfect collection of material.

Gary is totally an off the wall humorist that I get a kick out of every time I read his panels; some of them I stare at until I get it but I like to figure the humor out and its done pretty quickly. Quirky and awesome, highly recommended!!.

This is a gorgeous set that all lovers of the “Far Side” comics should own. Just beware – it is HUGE and weighs in at about twenty pounds. It defines the word, ‘tome’. Beautifully done,high quality materials and outstanding content make this an excellent and well worth the money purchase.

Owning this is like having a Gary Larson gallery exhibit in your own home. Not so much edited as curated every thing about these books is exceptional. The binding, printing, paper and colours are superb.

Even the slipcase is a work of art.

These books are just perfect, they are a must have if you are a Gary Larson fan as they contain over 4000 pictures – I believe that is close to a full collection. The books are heavy and made in superb quality materials, they look amazing on my bookshelf and will become a family heirloom, everyone wants them!.

I have several “Far Side” books but this is the first calendar I have ordered. It will be great to see a new cartoon every day of the year.

I bought this for my mom for Christmas. When I was little she would pick me up from school and the highlight of my day was reading her Far Side calendar. She got one every year until they stopped making them.

I happened to see an ad of this and bought it right away. She was so excited when she opened it! She took a picture and sent it to her coworkers who remember the old calenders.

was so excited to find the Far Side calenders at BAM ! i bought 4 for Stocking Stuffers. i never leave BAM disappointed, awesome store ! i don’t have a BAM store close to me, so about twice a month i drive 1 1/2 hours just to go to BAM.

I have some happy memories revolving around The Far Side, in particular the off-the-wall calendar. I eagerly look forward to each new day. But Id never noticed until now that some of the comics really cross over into the insensitive, especially when it comes to the issue of hanging.

I love Gary Larson, this Far Side Calendar is great. Booktopia is an incredible bookstore, and based in AUSTRALIA. Their customer service is extremely good. Would highly recommend to any buyer.

I’ve always loved the Far Side comics. They were funny! I missed them when they stopped putting them in my local paper.

My husband wanted something funny he could share with his friends during this Corona time. It fits the bill. He cuts out funny stories, and mails them to his friends and relatives.

farside humor is just what we need in these times. So glad the books and cards are still out there, a real classic and to be treasured

Has an amazing amount of cartoons on the 12 discs. Both color and black/white cartoons. The cartoons are great. casper, herman the mouse, three stooges, betty boop, popeye, little audrey, little lulu, felix the cat, gabby, hunky & spunky, mighty mouse, woody woodpecker, fraidy cat, gumby and many more! The only things I did not care for: each disc has it’s own jacket(I like) with the cartoon order on the back.

However, the cartoons are not in that particular order. And, there are some repeats of the cartoons on different discs. Which isn’t a problem if you really like that cartoon. Overall, this is a great set of cartoons for the price.

I’m not saying that you should do this all the time, but every once in a while it’s ok. Ever try to get the housework done, cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc with two little kids running around? It’s not easy.

Once a month when you have to do a German Oma styled from top to bottom cleaning of the home, you just sit the kids down in front of this collection of cartoons and they will be glued to the television, the next thing you know, wah-laa your work gets done.

These cartoon are some of the same cartoons that I watched after school each day right before dinner when I was a kid. They are old but still nothing that is produced today has the magic that these old cartoons still have.

If it weren’t for these DVD’s our children would never have the opportunity to see them. They are part of our American cultural treasure. I highly recommend them.

My 5-year old grandson was so happy to receive this collection of old cartoons. He enjoys older cartoons. His first comment was “There’s Mighty Mouse. ” These will be wonderful DVDs to keep him and his younger brother entertained when he goes on long trips, but individual cartoons are also short enough for him to watch on his way home from school, too.

I am really glad that I decided to get this set for him.

To quote my six-year-old daughter,”I love them!” I’m not sure the packaging has the cartoons listed properly, but it didn’t matter, because we sat and watched them for hours. Probably not very healthy, but it made for a wonderfully lazy Saturday morning.

Some were very experimental, and way ahead of their time.

These different cartoons are great to watch and entertain anyone or kid. It’s always nice to see the old classic cartoons. For a great price and gift! 🙂

We got this when we were venturing into a road trip with the kids, and this was a really savior. The kids were engrossed in the movies, and trip/long drives went smoothly

This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a little bit of everything. History, wartime suspense, romance, humor, a few surprises also.

The author did a great job of keeping my interest in the story. There were many characters of all different nationalities. Irish, British, French, Spanish, American, German! This book is full of WWI espionage, PTSD, carrier pigeons and so much history.

I loved the characters and how their story played out. When reading the authors note at the end, I realized that this book picked up with a minor character from a previous book, Not by Sight. Now I want to read that book.

I wish I had known that before. I am a stickler for reading books in order even though it is a minor character from the first book becoming a major character in the second book. I feel like I missed out on some good info.

I am looking forward to reading that book now. This is a good, clean, Christian fiction. Not heavy or preachy. Just characters living out their faith as they struggle through life.

The cover for Kate Breslin’s latest novel drew me in from the moment I saw it. Once I began reading this incredible story of bravery, however, I found myself living the pages with the characters. In many ways it was a difficult novel, as it deals with real issues faced by characters who seemed very real as I read, but it is one I highly recommend.

Johanna is not necessarily the most common of heroines-we first meet her in mud-splattered clothing from traveling on a motorcycle. But she is a perfect complement to Colin, a wounded hero who still has some recovery ahead of him.

The two of them interact with tension and a bit of distrust, but when spying is involved, knowing how much to say and to whom is a complicated business. The history is fascinating. I knew very little about WWI, and even less about how carrier pigeons played a role in it, at least before reading this novel.

Espionage, steganography, “plants,” fake cities, and defections also receive some mention, but I love how this all just forms the backdrop for a well-plotted tale. Now my interest is piqued, however, and I look forward to learning more about this time after reading this book.

The spiritual content is fantastic; both characters have some growth to do, but I loved how Colin doesn’t let his own struggles keep him from pointing Johanna in the right direction. And it is an encouragement to know that God really does have a plan, even when we cannot see it in the middle of our own valleys.

This is an excellent story, beautifully crafted. Those who have an interest in WWI Europe, carrier pigeons, or historical spycraft will find much to love in this novel, but it can be easily enjoyed by anyone without deep knowledge of any of these topics simply for the engrossing tale of family, love, and healing.

Far Side of the Sea, by Kate Breslin, is such a wonderful novel! The breathtaking, European settings, the WWI era mystery and intrigue, and the thoroughly engaging characters make this book a delight to read.

Well-researched and beautifully written, it is certainly a book to be treasured and savored. From beginning to end, I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Breslin’s elegant and expressive writing. Her detailed descriptions of the clothing, manners, customs, and culture of a time long since faded into memory make this novel especially fascinating and engaging.

The compelling mystery within this story, the intriguing details of espionage, and the unique role that pigeons played in the fight to win WWI are a few of my favorite components of the overall plot.

Like all great stories, Far Side of the Sea also artfully integrates a compelling thematic combination of struggle and success, heartache and hope, and loss and restoration. The characters within this book are truly authentic and relatable.

I found myself easily invested in their stories, sincerely caring about them and eagerly turning the pages to learn more about them and their fears, their motivations, and their faith. The gently unfolding romance in this novel is wonderfully endearing and heart-warming.

Ms. Breslin has the talent to ensure that the mere description of an evening walk along the beach is a literary moment that is sweetly thrilling and memorable. With its thoroughly satisfying blend of history, romance, faith, and mystery, Far Side of the Sea is a well-written, delightfully entertaining novel that I can enthusiastically recommend to all readers.
