This incredible story kept me turning the pages. I flew through the book and barely noticed the passing of time. The constant action both internal and external grabbed my attention. It’s a wonderful coming-of-age story about a bright but sensitive fourteen-year-old girl named Shale who feels misunderstood and isolated from the other students at her school and in her neighborhood.

Judd a boy at her school ruthlessly picks on her and attempts to get her in trouble with the school authorities. At home she feels out-of-place because her mom has remarried and her dad does not have regular contact with her.

Feeling alone and confused she wanders into the woods and finds a seventh dimension. This fascinating land parallels her life at home but takes place in the first century during the days of Jesus Christ a key character in the story.

Hi Ebay, I dont mind writing the occasional review but in all honesty, its difficult to have some fun or conjure up any enthusiasm for a couple of second hand, fantasy, paperback books. They are the first two books in a series of five that had been recommended to me.

I bought them (cheaply) to read on the train and then leave in the local charity shop. Having read the first two Im not sure that Ill bother to continue with the next three, theyre a tad same old, same old.

But in fairness what I say is not going to affect the sales of a second hand paperback. Whoever buys it will have done their homework, which I doubt will include reading reviews of second hand books on ebay.

From memory this is about the third or fourth review request out of pushing 2k+ items Ive bought, I think theyve all been on books, and I doubt Ive bought 30 books. If ebay are trying to build up a credible review system, someone isnt asking the right questions about the things your buyers really want to know about.

Eldest is Book 2 in the Inheritance Cycle by the young writer Christopher Paolini. I don’t usually read many books in Fantasy but I have read some recommended by my nieces and have enjoyed them and have not been disappointed in either Eragon or Eldest.

Eldest is a story about humans, dwarves, elves and dragons and magic. The story is about a conflict between them and another evil character. There is a huge amount of imagination, and good development of the characters.

Eldest, the second book of the trilogy, picks up where Eragon. left off. Eragon was injured in the battle for Tronjheim and he is sent with his dragon, Saphira, to the elves in Ellesmera where is he is to heal, learn magic, and train to be a Rider.

He knows another battle with Galbatorix lies in his future. His cousin, Roran, finds he’s lost everything, but tragic circumstances force him into becoming a leader to protect the villagers in Carvahall from the Ra’zac, and he makes discoveries of his own powers.

Christopher Paolini, now 21, continues with his epic and Eldest has received positive reviews. The Philadelphia Inquirer says, “Those who are eagerly anticipating the follow-up will be thrilled with this rich, sophisticated novel.

And to those who have never considered reading a book with something like a dragon on its cover, Paolini may make a believer of you yet. I, for one, can’t wait to find out what happens in book three.

This book it did open a door, to the works of R. A. Salvatore. It features no bard, but a dread crystal shard and great heroes whose names became lore. A rollicking, rip-snorting tale, it spans the breadth of Icewind Dale, if you dare take a look, you’ll get lost in this book, I can guarantee this without fail.

So if you find yourself tucked in a nook, or reposed by a babbling brook, read a tale filled with flagons and wizards, and dragons In short, I do recommend this book!.

Straightforward high fantasy set in the world of Faerun. Good guys consistently good and intelligent, bad guys consistently bad and stupid. The girls don’t get a look-in, really. As I used to write on students’ scripts, “Good work, well written up, but lacks originality”.

I look very forward to reading more of these characters of Forgotten Realms and of Salvatore’s work beyond Dungeons & Dragons. And again if the only thing really holding you back from giving these kinds of books a read is the unnecessary stigma against D&D I hope you will not continue to let it bias you because the stories and characters are truly engaging.

Furyborn was surrounded by ALL THE HYPE for MONTHS before it released. It was EVERYWHERE, and as a huge YA Fan, I knew I would have to read it, sooner rather than later. Furyborn was essentially: 1) A magnificent tale told across two millennia by two young girls 2) One lives in a land surrounded my magic, and the other in a land where magic is a fairy-tale of the past and all they know is the Empire that conquers all 3) One of these girls is an assassin and one is a temple acolyte 4) A story surrounding a prophecy about these two girls – a Sun Queen and a Blood Queen, one with the power to destroy the world and the other with the power to save it.

5) It has kingdoms, swoony princes, power, magical trials, angels and it’s just SUCH A GORGEOUS BOOK TO OWN! MY THOUGHTS: 1) I expected a LOT going into this book. A majority of the early reviews I read RAVED about this book, and I was very hopeful that I had found the NEXT THING I WOULD FALL HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH.

Now, as I sit at the end of Furyborn, I find that while I ENJOYED it, for the most part, this story was predictable and kind of MEH, except for ONE TWIST on page 343. 2) If I had to choose between Rielle and Eliana, I would definitely choose Rielle’s story.

They were both a little predictable, but I definitely loved Rielle’s dark and twisty viewpoint better! 3) Furyborn was QUITE a long book. I feel like a lot of it was running around, especially in Eliana’s story when she kept travelling from place X to place Y, and not much happened that we DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW? 4) I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Audric and Rielle together, with their forbidden, best-friend romance.

Honestly, I liked Furyborn, but I didn’t fall in love with it. There was a lot of hype around it, and it just didn’t live up to all that hype for me. A 3. 5 star novel, but I hope I will continue on with the series!.

This book has absolutely earned its hype, the “most anticipated” title that it’s being marketed with it is also well-deserved. It’s a rare thing to find a single fantasy story that is original, exciting and full of powerful, intriguing characters, let alone two within one book.

Rielle and Eliana’s stories are connected, yes, but it’s not in an in-your-face obvious way, which serves Furyborn very well. But for a few overlapping elements, they each read as fantastic, nearly standalone stories in their own right, and the way author Claire Legrand deftly weaves them together adds tremendously to the depth and magnitude of the plot.

It’s so interesting to see both sides of the coin in one story – Rielle’s story provides the lead-up to an earthshaking event (which we get tantalizing hints of in the prologue), and Eliana’s story is set in the devastatingly brutal Empire left in the aftermath of Rielle’s time.

In books with multiple POVs, I personally find it nearly impossible to not have a clear favorite, but in Furyborn, both Rielle and Eliana are strong, compelling, and fascinating in their own ways. I truly did not have a favorite, and was only tempted once to skip a chapter and get a peek ahead, and skimming can be a huge problem for me in other books.

Fabulous writing, action, character development, worldbuilding, magic. everything. Fabulous everything.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy to review! Like Children of Blood and Bone, this book was majorly hyped. And it deserved all of it. When this book was first hitting the book scene, I was not really into it.

I am sometimes wary of super-hyped books but then I was, like most things, “Ahh, might as well try it. ” AND I LOVED IT. Though book seems to be like a lot of popular books; you will love it to pieces or you will hate every fiber of its being.

I have noticed a lot of people who are complaining about the size of the book. I have been lately wanting to read some long (about 500 page) fantasy books so I appreciated that fact. For me, Legrand did not add any scenes that I felt were unnecessary as the book is basically two stories together.

I love being thrown into the action and this book starts with Rielle fighting to save her daughter and yes it is very dramatic. You also get to meet Simon, who is the same little boy that Rielle gives her daughter to at the beginning of the book, who is also with Eliana during her time; yes there is a completely logical explanation for this.

Though I do have lots of questions as to how Simon managed that. The Blood Queen I enjoyed Rielle’s POV a little more the Eliana’s which is weird because you know that Rielle dies so it is not like there is any is-she-going-to-die tension.

Fear not, what it lacks in tension of when she is going to die is made up in how does she become queen? The answer to this question is wholely dramatic and I loved it though I definitely was not expecting it.

The Sun Queen Then there is Eliana who I would describe as Adelina Amouteru with the flair of Celena Sardothein. She once jumped off a 3-story building with a red cape because she can. Now tell me Celena wouldn’t do that and I totally would too if I knew that I wouldn’t go splat on the ground.

Now she is also invincible, well not completely as she does get hurt but she heals really fast so basically. And she is so much like Adelina because she is (extremely) morally grey but she does love her family.

I thought that Simon’s remark after the little incident with the army prison was a bit much but it did show Eliana how her actions do affect others. And because the reader knows about the prophecy and the fact that Rielle is called the Blood Queen, it is not hard to put together that Eliana is the Sun Queen.

But she does not know that so it makes it interesting for when she is told. Now, both Rielle and Eliana have bisexual feelings but it is not an in your face “THESE CHARACTERS ARE QUEER!!!!” remark. And that is perfectly okay.

One plot point that I was expecting to be a bit different was how the prophecy was going to play out. I was expecting a little more hush, hush on who was the Bloof Queen and who was the Sun Queen. The supporting characters are a strong part of Furyborn.

I loved Ludivine and Remy! Ludivine is Rielle’s close friend and the betrothed to Audric. She is completely okay Audric and Rielle loving each other because I think that she might be aro/ace but then again there is a whole plot twist thing and that might be the reason why she has no love interests.

And then there is Remy, who is Elianna’s little brother; he is adorable and I love the bond between him and Elianna. In a nutshell, I did really enjoy reading this book it was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to read the next one! I know that I shouldn’t be quoting an ARC but I just love this line.

Five dragon eggs are taken on the brightest night so that the prophecy on peace will be fulfilled. As they grow up under a mountain and learn history and battle tricks, they form their own family but don’t stop thinking about their families of origins and how they will one day find them.

I enjoyed this book. The world building is great as we learn about the dragonets and their clans. The young ones are not happy with their circumstances and do what they feel they must to fulfill the prophecy earlier rather than later.

Of course, they run into problems but they start to discover their strengths and talents as well as those of the other dragonets. There is violence and death. Some of it I was not prepared for. I particularly loved Clay, the Mudwalker.

This seems to be his story. He is not what the others think nor what their instructors believe him to be. The others also are more than their instructors believe about them. This is an interesting group of characters and I cannot wait to continue the series.

The BAM I went to was holding a book drive for kids at the local children’s hospital. This book was one of the choices and since I love anything dragon I picked it for a donation. Gave 4 stars because I haven’t actually read it but the cashier said her kids love all the books in the series of which, this is the first.

Hoping it will find it’s way to a child in need of a good story to help them escape into their wildest dreams; lift their spirit; encourage them to keep fighting and get well.

I first learned about this series after one of my best friends started reading it. I decided to check this out myself back in 2019 and I fell in love with this book series. I strongly recommend this book and it made me want to read a lot more.

Actual rating 3. 5 stars. I bought this after reading ‘The Coldest Girl in Coldtown’ – Holly Black’s writing is fun, dark, and she’s great at developing a character; so I was expecting all of that in ‘The Darkest Part of the Forest’ and was not disappointed.

I’m not big on fantasy, but the setting of this novel was in a modern day urban locale, with a small town sharing a forest with Fae Folk. They’ve reached a sort-of pact, and know all of the Fariy Lore.

So, I found it easy to relate to the story, and wasn’t distracted by lengthy world building. The writing style has an omnipresent eye, bucking the trend of a first person narrative, as we follow brother and sister, Ben and Hazel, both who are fascinated (as are much of the town of Farifold) with a beautiful boy in a glass coffin, Snow White-style.

Hazel is warrior child from the get go, she wild and brazen and not afraid of the folk. Imaginary games of being a huntress, despatching the bad Fae becomes a real life duty for Hazel. It’s her secret double life outside of being a regular fun-loving school student.

Likewise, her brother Ben assists in Hazel quests using his ability to entrance all with music, like a Pied Piper, a gift bestowed on him by the Fae. Ben is compassionate and tortured, like every true artist.

Having Ben identify as gay only added delicious layers to his story. Jack is Ben’s best friend (and Changeling – a fairy youngling, replacing a human child and left for the family to raise, however the ruse was discovered and the human baby recovered, though Ben was kept as a punishment.

Looking completely human and identical to human baby Carter, he was raised as a part of the family. ) Jack loves without discrimination and has a foot in both worlds. Of course, Hazel would have a crush on him.

I loved the way his character developed in this story most of all. Severin the horned prince in the glass coffin – and Ben’s love interest still manages to be in the centre of the storyline even though he is asleep.

The stories everyone makes up about who he is, and how he came to be entombed in a magical glass box is fascinating. A surprisingly fast read that is paced well. ‘The Darkest Part of the Forest’ always kept me interested and engaged.

The story dealt out some surprises, but overall, fairly predictable – though that did not detract from my enjoyment. With such a rich array of characters and a fantastical world juxtaposing over our own, it ticked all the poxes for me as an enjoyable weekend read.

I think the only thing that could have made it better was a heavier dose of darkness and menacing tension – then I would be completely satisfied. Though having said that it would have lost that innocent lyrical tone befitting the Fae so well.

Loved the physical presentation of the hardback copy. Deckled edges, mat and embossed dust jacket and beautiful typesetting throughout the interior. And did I mention the stunning cover art?.

I have always loved Holly Blacks style of writing. I read and adored her Modern Faerie Tale series, which to this day remain as one of my favorite trilogies. So when I heard that she was to have a new book release in January 2015, The Darkest Part of the Forest, I was very very excited.

I anticipated something amazing. This book did not disappoint. I found certain parts to be a little cheesy, but as my good friend and fellow bibliophile says, “Sometimes cheesy is just what you need”.

I could not agree more, therefore despite the cheese, I really loved this book. This book is set in a town that is home to many of the Folk. It is the enchanted tale of Hazel Evans who is a fierce, wild, brave and crazy; Her musically gifted brother Ben; his not-so-human best friend Jack and the horned boy in the glass coffin.

The story takes many turns and things aren’t really not really as they appear. One of my favorite parts of this book is the honesty of the characters Hazel and Ben are both kind of broken because of her childhood.

Ben is gay. Jack is trying to figure out where he fits. I recommend this book as well as all of Holly Blacks other books to anyone who likes reading about the Fae.

Faeries? Check. Subtle fairytale retelling? Check. Awesome, diverse characters? Check.

I love this series despite reading all the horrible reviews before hand. I’m so thankful I took a chance. Book 3 is great. Also note this series has some real juicy “ love scenes” I love how smj expanded on every characters issues and growth.

I couldn’t put it down. Plus the “sassy scenes!” Lord give me one of the bat boys any day! You aren’t left wondering about characters and where they stand by the end of the book. The only downside and issue I have is the war itself.

The characters work so hard to get ready and go to war. They give everything they have, but the death of king though I didn’t see it coming felt rushed. So much build and in like what 60 pages the war is over and we are moving forward.

I felt like it should’ve had a little more to it. Lucien accomplished his one mission to help and it made a difference in the war however it wasn’t explained well. It could’ve used more detail. Also note : ignore reviews stating how poorly tamlin is treated.

For one in this book he has some personal reflection. He saves freye and comes to their aid in war. He also saves Rhys and states he only wishes for her happiness. There is hope for him. He isn’t a main character after book 1, but she does an amazing job of not leaving you wondering about him.

4. 5 Stars – Originally reviewed on Just Me My Books. Taken back to the Spring Court, Feyre plans to not only get revenge on Tamlin and Ianthe for bringing here sisters into the war against Hybern, but also gather information on Tamlin’s association with its King.

She plans on bringing down the court from the inside and show the people that Tamlin and his High Priestess cannot be trusted, especially when Tamlin is making deals with the enemy and granting them access to the Wall.

When she finally returns to the Night Court, Rhysand and his inner circle begin planning on how to defeat Hybern, hopefully before he reaches Prythian. But a meeting with the other High Lords comes too late, and Hybern’s forces reach Prythian and the mortal realm before a plan can be fully formulated.

With war raging in the mortal lands, the Night Court and it’s allies must fight against a much larger army in order to protect not only themselves but the humans on their land. Destroying the Cauldron is the only way Hybern will be defeated, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover how to do it.

This is quite possibly the best book I have ever read. I have enjoyed the ACOTAR series so much, and every single book has been filled with so much detail. This book was SO intricate though. I felt like I got to see more of an insight into the characters, and I absolutely loved seeing the development between Feyre and Rhys.

Their love story is one that I find myself comparing to every single other book I read. I constantly compare the characters to characters in other books and they never seem to even compare. Sarah does such a wonderful job building the world and the elements for this story.

I really felt like I was going to war with them, and I found myself not breathing at some of the parts, just in suspense! Amazing. Altering. Superb. I only have positive thoughts and feelings toward this series.

Bought these Geronimo Kingdom of Fantasy series for a second grader. Finished each book (500 pages) within a few hours. Each book has different story, so you don’t have to read it in order. I highly recommend this series to any young avid readers out there.

This is a great product — in fact it is so goo i wrote this review with it. I highly recommend it. You control the mouse by pointing the remote, it has great, high quality buttons, and it is overall amazing!.

My 4th grader has been collecting these G Stilton books for over one year now. These books are truly a gem of creative writing, excellent grammar, and fantastical images. As an adult, they are one of my favorite books to read to my children because they are so well written.

There is no slang and the characters reflect good values.

Two great authors, one great book. I watched the series on TV and the book is as always better, a funny, descriptive, excellently written, easy to read novel. Following characters through the lead up to the apocalypse! Good for all ages.

I found it it easy to read as it doesn’t get bogged down in the meanderings of Terry Pratchetts mind.

I have read this book many times and each time it is just as funny and entertaining as the first time I read it. God and the Devil Decide this is it! Send down instructions to their chief demon and chief angel on earth who decide, “No way can we allow this happen”.

Their pursuits in preventing Armageddon are akin to the “gang who couldn’t shoot straight””. Hysterical and funny. Amazon did a tv series on it and turned into a buddy brofest movie – which distorted the book.

Read the book first and then ignore the tv program!.

“You’re Hell’s Angels, then? What chapter are you from?’ ‘REVELATIONS. CHAPTER SIX” (Neil Gaiman). This is one of my all-time favourite books. I had given away two copies simply because I wanted other people to enjoy the experience of reading it, and bought this copy is to read alongside my Italian edition for those parts where my Italian isn’t quite up to the task.

This book is funny, literate, entertaining, witty. and it’s the story to end all stories. A very blackly humorous take on the apocalypse, complete with demons, angels, a hell-hound and the antichrist – these last two being very far from what you might imagine.

Good Omens is extraordinarily well-written and very readable – unsurprising since it has Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman as joint authors. Pratchett and Gaiman draw on their collective intelligence and vast general knowledge to give us a novel riddled with subtle references and snippets of genuine information disguised as a rattling good tale.

I’m 11 years old and wings of fire series are the best books I have ever read in my life. I suggest you get it for all your kids and also the book is in great shape.

I got these book for my 13 yr old. And chapter book she wanted as long has it was school approved made me happy and she wanted to read the series. So, as the mom, I went out to get her as many of the books I could find that she did not have.

My daughter is battling Dyslexia and reads only when she has to. when i saw her sitting in the asile of your store reading this book on her own, I knew we had to buy it. She loves this series.

Brandon Sanderson is by far the best sci-fi/ fantasy novelist I have ever encountered. Elantris was a book I have been meaning to read and I finally purchased it. I am in love with the storyline, characters, and the phenomenal magical qualities which vary throughout each of Sanderson’s series.

I have been looking to start a new epic for ages now, i have gone through many good ones but have been struggling to find something that excites. From the first page this book grips you. You defiantly know its going to not disappoint.

The main characters are likeable and you start rooting for them and wishing a happy ending from the start. The copy of the book was not very great.

I am an avid Robert Jordan fan and I was pretty impressed with Sanderon’s stand-in writing of the latest Wheel of Time. However, Brandon Sanderson is no Robert Jordan. Although he is GOOD at fantasy I would not say he is a master.

I think he excelled at The Gathering Storm simply because Jordan had already laid all the groundwork. He has an interesting story idea in Elantris (and a single book fantasy is refreshing) but he just doesn’t have the character development that is needed to really a hook a reader.

I didn’t find myself much caring about the characters and I didn’t really feel that I knew them. The love story is bland and unispiring and laced kind of clumsily throughout the book. Also, I got a sense that he wrote the book in sections and then attempted to cement the pieces together but it just didn’t quite flow.

I am a spoiled reader. Robert Jordan and Tolkien are hard to match. so take this for what it’s worth but THIS BOOK IS MEDIOCRE FANTASY.

I’d heard a lot of good things about this series so I was eager to read it once I realized I could being that it was on my challenge list to get through before YallFest. I love a story with unique traits and this book definitely has those.

Just before chapter one Noel provides a list of auras” and what they represent. I thought that was pretty cool and found myself going back to that list every time a color was mentioned so I could tell what the person was feeling before it was actually revealed by their thoughts.

I loved almost all of the characters in this book as well. Ever has a cool name and a great personality to go with it but at the same time she has her weak moments like every other teenage girl. Even though she isn’t mentioned in the synopsis her sister Riley is fun as well.

I don’t want to give too many details but Riley pops in a lot and I really enjoyed her spunky attitude. I wasn’t too fond of Ever’s friend Haven at first but after learning a bit about her past and the reasoning behind the way she is she kinda grew on me.

Miles is probably my favorite character. He is gay outspoken and a gem all around. I also didn’t like Damen in the beginning but he redeems himself towards the end. The only person I hated was Drina but trust me you’ll hate her too.

She’s just the kind of person you want to stab in the eye with a dull pencil. Stacia too. Ugh I hate chicks like that. Anyway the story line is very unique. When Damen first showed up the whole thing reminded me of Twilight which bothered me but once it get more in depth with the background story it made up for it.

I love when every random thing ends up fitting together somehow and Noel has done an amazing job with the details. I’m about to finish the second book and I am really looking forward to how the series pans out.

I gave this book 4 stars. While the characters and the story are both very interesting it didn’t have that IT factor that gave it the full 5. However now that I’ve learned a bit about the story and background I have to read the spin off series from Riley’s point of view.

So even though this isn’t the most amazing book I’ve read in my life Noel has my attention and I will continue reading on to find out what happens. “.

Evermore is a great book for those who like adventure mixed with fantasy. It brings a twist to the average teenage love story of high school romance. The author’s writing style is very entertaining and helps keep the reader engaged.

Lastly, even though Ever has some “unique” traits, she is still quite relatable as a teenage girl dealing with everyday dramas. I would recommend this book as it is so addicting that I personally bought the whole series.

This used to be one of my favorite books and I recently reread it and it’s still a very intriguing story! I enjoy all the characters (although some are a bit angsty for my taste) and the “fantasy” element really makes for an entertaining read.

The only thing that bothered me was maybe too much repetition, but I absolutely love the romance of their story! Does have a twilight sort of feel to it, but I would recommend checking out this book/series!.

I love this whole amazing magical series! Tui T Sutherland had managed to make the best books in the world! If you didn’t know this book is based on Qibli’s perspective. You meet his family and understand more about him and his life including his crush on Moon.

(Pretty sad) He helps his friends stop the prophecy, and defeat Darkstalker with a bit of animus magic in a really weird way. (But also kind of cute) (you will see what I mean).

One of the only book series to hook my reluctant readers attention. Action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and of course Dragons! This series has it all!

Thank you for having this plus a box set of the first 5 books too! I know I ordered another one as well in which I will set a review on but this along with the other books I ordered for my son was shipped well and in a perfect sized box to hold them to be received in to our hands.

AFTER: Not only explains how Celaena met, or knows of, so many different people all over Erilea, but provides her childhood history which is both fascinating & satisfying. BEFORE: Indubitably make you want to read the Series.

The only downside there I can see is there would less impatience to read the next book due to less anticipation. (i. e. How will Celaena get out of trouble? OR What else can happen?) Not only will ‘Young Adults’ enjoy all books by Sarah J.

Maas, but the young at heart will love them too.

I’m not normally a fan of novellas but The Assassin’s Blade is a great collection of stories bridging the gap of from when Celaena Sardothien was Adarlan’s Assassin to her time in the salt mines. One of the highlights of this book is you can be new to the Throne of Glass series or a veteran fan – there is something in this book for everyone.

The five stories each focus on a different mission Celaena had to undertake for Arobynn Hamel – King of the Assassins. Her assignments take her from the high seas to the depths of the arid desert and back to the capital, Rifthold.

No place is too remote or too dark for Celaena but we get to see that there’s more to Celaena than meets the eye. Her own moral code often conflicts with that of her patron and she finds herself questioning the closest thing she has to a father.

I’ve been a fan of Sarah J Mass’ writing since I first read Throne of Glass. And whilst this collection of novellas is not required to understand and enjoy the books, The Assassin’s Blade is a great addition to the world Maas has created.

Thoughout this collection, Celaena’s growth is evident and she’s one of those characters I would NEVER want to meet but I adore reading her stories. Brave, intelligent and fierce, Celaena gives her all to everything she attempts and lives her life on the edge.

She’s cocky and egotistical but her track record shows she has reason to be. This book introduces some brilliant new characters – including a well dressed pirate lord, a want-to-be healer and a girl who would do anything to get revenge – and they fit perfectly in the world.

I enjoyed reading Celaena’s antics with these people and would love to see them pop up at a later stage in the series. Another lovely thing about these novellas is the romance. Celaena’s involvement with a certain young assassin has been mentioned several times in Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight but it was brilliant to get to see the relationship unfold from the beginning.

It must have been hard to show a softer side to the legendary Adarlan’s Assassin but Maas managed the task and it felt true to Celaena’s character. I loved this book and am so glad that I got the chance to see where Celaena’s story began.

For fans of the series or those just wanting to read a great high fantasy story with brilliant characters and an assassin like no other – I could not recommend this book more highly. Great writing and engaging stories, this is a book that would appeal to young adults but also older readers too.

I read this after the 3rd book cause someone told me there were spoilers. There’s not. Definitely ready this one first and pay attention to the characters!

This story is dark but somehow still gorgeous. I both loved and was wary of the intense bond between these sisters. It was a compulsive read and the imagery was almost tangible. I don’t think I’ve ever been more relieved that a book didn’t come with Smell-O-Pages.

I absolutely adored this book and want to gush about each of the sisters, their history, the imagery, the horror and the beauty. However, this is one of those books where the less you know going in the better.

Get to know the Hollows and let their world unfurl around you. Just be prepared for them to get under your skin, whichever way you choose to interpret that. “I am the thing in the dark. ” Content warnings are included on my blog.

Not only is the cover to House of Hollow gorgeous, it is a five star read. A mysterious, haunting, dark urban fairytale that had me hooked! Krystal Sutherland creates a world that is so deceptive and unnerving yet completely intriguing and enchanting.

The story of three sisters with an all encompassing bond that is more than meets the surface. When the ethereal older sister Grey goes missing, how can younger sisters Vivi and Iris not go after her? And how would they ever know the rabbit hole she will lead them down.

And do they really want to know the truth of what happened to them as children? To say this story goes to a dark place, is an understatement. And if you love eerie and atmospheric YA like me, than this is perfect for you.

I could not put this book down and was constantly at the edge of my seat. After I finished my read, all I could think was, when is the Netflix adaptation?.

House of Hollow is a richly intoxicating novel that leaves the reader enchanted and unable to put the book down as if it were heavily coated in glue.

The story is a dark and beautifully twisted fairy tale of haunted places and strange ‘doors that lead somewhere else’. All the characters are wonderfully crafted and full to the brim with there own secrets.

Secrets that Krystal Sutherland has fabricated perfectly and answered sparingly to have the reader needing to know more every time they turn the page. Krystal Sutherland is a talented author who has perfected dark fairy tale horror and created a terrifying yet achingly alluring story that grows more and more sinister as time goes on.

I heavily recommend this to anyone who is a fan of stories full of gripping suspense and who can watch horror movies and still sleep at night. It don’t usually read books more than once (because there is just so many of them out there to read) but House of Hollow will definitely be going on my read again pile.

While the ending was perfectly rounded to leave readers satisfied, i still dream that Krystal Sutherland will grace us with a sequel and that one day her tale will become a Netflix original short series that i will, undeniably, watch over and over if it contains anything like the perfection of suspense the book provides.

The beginning of a new trilogy by Nora Roberts always makes me happy! Being the first book in the trilogy, background has to be set so the motivations later in the novel make sense. In that respect, the book dragged a bit at first, but as Breen made her way to Ireland with Marco, then on to Talamh alone, the book picked up and the magic that is Nora Roberts took over.

Very enjoyable book, just right for a day long sit in front of the fireplace or wherever your cozy reading place is, to do nothing but immerse yourself in the story.

I bought this book on a whim while birthday shopping for my husband (oops). This is the first book of Nora Robert’s that I’ve read. I’ve predominantly read young adult and have only recently become aware of new adult fantasy.

This book was an amazing read and really brought me out of my reading slump. The world building and character building was incredible and didn’t feel rushed in the slightest. I loved the way that Breen found herself throughout the story.

This is definitely a fantasy story for a mature reader. I look forward to reading the follow up to this book.

Nora Roberts is an absolutely amazing writer! Many people say that she is a great romance writer, and I suppose that’s true to a point, But that’s not the case in many of her books. There is action, adventure, mystery, and intrigue as the major driving force in the story.

“Awakening” is one of those books. It makes me hunger for the next book! I know it will be a great book!.

Because the novel is presented from Jude’s point of view, it was fascinating to learn about her motivations for frequently clashing with the royal family, as well as her experiences when her family misread and underestimated her.

The Cruel Prince is a fantastic fantasy story with a fast-paced plot. (spoilers ahead) I loved this book; the magic and faerie world are so amazing, and we learn new things about the faerie people with each page; it’s truly captivating.

I also like the theme of a female lead who wants to be a knight but can’t because her “father” is constantly bullied at school, and she has to navigate it on her own. An outcast attempting to discover her own path and future in this world mortal among the magical, she must forge her own way in a place where she does not necessarily belong.

the anguish of her parents’ death and the discovery of secrets from her history. I’m captivated with the romance between Jude and Cardan, two ultra-enemies who are drawn together by their mutual hatred.

I definitely want this relationship to continue, and I’m hoping it will be a major motif throughout the series. The romance makes me believe that love can be found anywhere, and the scene where they eventually admit feelings was, in my opinion, the best portion of the entire novel since it was so raw and full of sentiments that I yearned for JUDE AND CARDAN forever.

I couldn’t put the book down because the author creates images that are so colourful and enchanting that they pop off the page. These gorgeous new creatures and landscapes grabbed me in and I couldn’t put it.

I want the next book so bad just finished and cant wait for more.

This book was not what I thought it would be. I heard it was good on booktok and so I read it. It wasn’t the best. I thought the book was kind of slow paced and not really the best. I expected there to be more romance especially since I heard this was an enemies to lovers book.

It was a good fantasy book and I thought the relationship between the twin sisters were interesting. (I don’t want to spoil it. ) There was action and I liked that a lot. I was just hoping for some more romance.

I can see how eventually it becomes an enemies to lovers, so it’s probably a slow burn romance. If you like that and you like I do recommend that you read this book. The characters were interesting and there is a lot of betrayal and I was excited to see how that turned out in the next two books.

I just felt like there could be more and that I needed a little bit more. Overall, this book was a good book, but it wasn’t the best.

I adored this story. I loved the dark, cruel, magical and manipulative world of the faeries and the characters who reside there. I loved the depth, the imperfection and how the story wasn’t riddled with cliche.

It was refreshing to read about faerie teenagers who are actually. well, teenagers. Flawed. Angsty. The way Holly writes is magical too. Her prose is visually descriptive, layered and beautiful to read, yet it’s simple.

Digestible. It’s probably why it’s so easy to binge read her books.

When she gets the chance to get rid of the Arz forever by retrieving a magical artifact, she decides to go to Sharr, a mysterious and deadly island. Meanwhile, Nasir, the prince of Arawiya, is also sent to Sharr, but he is sent by his father with orders to kill the Hunter and steal the artifact.

“A life without purpose may be no life, but a life without love is nothing but an existence. ” We Hunt the Flame features a fantastical Arabian inspired world with a veeeeeeeeery slow-burn romance. Things I loved: – As others have mentioned, Hafsah Faizal’s writing is BEAUTIFUL.

It’s lyrical and absolutely entrancing. – I loved all the characters! (even though some of them frustrated me a little bit because of their stubbornness) – World-building was great in my opinion, though I was a little confused with all the information thrown at me in the first section of the book.

Things I disliked: – There were some parts of the book that I felt were a little less engaging (though most of the book was pretty fast-paced and interesting). – As I mentioned before, I felt that the world could have been introduced a little better in the beginning as it was a little difficult to understand at first.

I definitely recommend this book to those who love fantasy and/or books with flowery writing. I really enjoyed this, and am so excited for the release of the sequel! (originally posted on Goodreads @june_reads).

I really loved We Hunt the Flame. It is a well-written fantasy inspired by Middle Eastern culture. The world building is skillful, the magic system fascinating, and the characters complex. The land of Arawiya once vibrant and flourishing, has lost its good magic, has become cursed and suffers under a cruel Sultan.

Zafira is the legendary Demenhune Hunter who masquerades as a man to brave a dark, treacherous forest called the Arz so that she can feed her people. The Arz is invading Arawiya, threatening to destroy it.

Zafira is offered the chance to venture to a mysterious island in a quest for an artifact that will restore good magic to her land and defeat the Arz. Nasir, the Sultan’s son, an assassin who does his bidding, is tasked with using Zafira to find the artifact and then kill her.

They are joined on the island by other characters, with their own, at first, mysterious agendas. I liked all the characters and watching how their relationships grew and changed. I loved Altair and Kifah.

There were some quite unexpected twists. Lush descriptions of the setting, people, clothes and food abound. The romance was slowly developed and did not dominate the story. I am grateful to have read this right as the sequel is published so I don’t have to wait.

Highly recommended.

This is a “I came to kill you, but want to kiss you instead” fantasy romance inspired by Ancient Arabia. This is a very slow paced book but with all the lyrical and poetic writing it had me immersed.

I started on a ship and as I kept going it sunk and by the end I was at the bottom of the ocean. That’s what it felt like while reading this story. I was a little confused by some things that took place and although it had a lot of gasp moments I kind of wish that I could have guessed some of the things that happened.

With that being said I loved the writing style and characters. The writing was so flowery and there were a lot of quotes that I loved. It was like nothing I’ve ever read. I also loved that there were a lot of Arabic words being used in it.

I honestly felt like I was in a different country while reading it. The characters were awesome. I loved Zafira for her need to show the world that women can be strong and courageous. That no matter your gender we each have something that another would not have.

Nasir was a jaw dropping, heartbreaking love interest. And an assassin for his father, the sultan, which made him feared throughout the kingdom. Then we have Altair the general who has a wicked sense of humor.

I loved Altair and his snarky comments/comebacks. There are a couple more side characters but I’ll let you hear about them yourself by reading this book. This is a story about a huntress that is sent on a mission to restore magic back into the Arawiya kingdom.

And the prince of death sent by his own father the sultan to assassinate her who they think is a man. Along the way they run into evil creatures roaming the desert while warring with their own feelings.

This book is one alluring and humorous adventure that you will not want to pass up! “There was nothing more respectable and dangerous than a woman of confidence. “.

This book is so beautifully written and really captures the essence of how otherworldly and dark the Labrynth was. The cover art is haunting and the images inside the book are breathtaking, a lot of time and effort went into making this book and it shows.

I watched this movie in Spanish class in high school, then once again in college. Once I saw they made a book about it I knew I had to have it! It’s a great book/ movie!

Finally got to this book in my To Be Read pile. I’m ashamed I took so long. It’s everything I imagined and more.

THE SECOND VOLUME of ‘A Song of Ice And Fire’ tells the world as much about the extraordinary mind and imagination of George R R Martin, as it does his ability to gift his fans with an unforgettable and extraordinary bedtime story.

Whilst book one (A Game of Thrones) did not end on a particularly massive cliffhanger, there is no way for a reader to get that far and not continue onto book 2. And whilst it possesses and displays the same writing style from AGOT, it must be said that the second book’s pace only starts to pick up as you pass the half way mark.

Once again there is no great beauty in the writing, no heart stopping prose for the reader to stumble over in awe. Westeros, we have come to see, is mainly a violent, cold, and (ahem) stark place to find yourself in.

But that shouldn’t surprise anyone by now. Winter is coming. The genius of ASOIAF lies in the way the fable is presented to the reader. It almost feels like you are reading several (inter-related) books at once.

And of course, that is precisely the point. Which also goes a long way to explain why it takes Mr Martin so long to write and release each volume. The story is just so darn *complex*. A new set of characters are introduced in the prologue, but you may end up forgetting all about them until you hit page 300, when they reappear.

The dreaded GRRM-character-chop has not raised its ugly head since the awesome finale to AGOT. I like twists and turns in a plot almost as much as the next book worm, but readers may well feel justified in booking into anger management classes after seeing them killed off in typical Westeros fashion after 1400 pages of dedication and friendship making.

The book’s dominant characters are still my favourites, but I have come to adore my adopted daughter Arya after witnessing her endless supplies of courage, determination and bravery in the face of unstoppable evil.

But most characters continue to develop. Even Tyrion Lannister – the bad guy we all love to hate – is starting to show signs of compassion and sympathy for another. But the story’s main player will find himself seriously played if he is not careful!!! I can’t say much more about this awesome reading experience without giving away spoilers.

All you really need to do is finish book one. Then read the blurb from ACOK. The rest is a no brainer. Reviews are useless. Resistance is futile. Westeros is right here. Come inside where it’s nice and warm.

Shut the door, though. I don’t want to catch a cold. Winter is coming.

George R. R. Martin’s fantasy saga “A Song of Ice and Fire” started triumphantly with “A Game of Thrones”. Now in book 2, “A Clash of Kings”, this talented storyteller builds upon the first story with another rousing good tale.

The world he has created, Westeros, Essos, et. al. , is a fascinating milieu of lands that take on a personality of their own. The characters are so well-defined, they feel amazingly real. The story is rich and engrossing.

Martin is a master at creating believable and essential dialog. And his writing style is a pure joy to millions of readers. Winter may be coming, but this book will put summer in your heart!.

A great book! I am so glad with this purchase! I myself prefer these paperback versions of the books slightly more than the hardcover due to the fact that they are more comfortable to read. I love the hardcover versions also but they are bulkier, heavier and also pricey.
