20 Best Eye Primer For Hooded Eyes (2023 Updated)

This product is so helpful in making colors pop and keeping eyeshadow and eyeliner in place. It’s a little bit of a learning curve, at first. When you apply it onto your eyelid, it comes off a bit oily.

You have to continue to add a bit more to make it more concentrated as you really blend it into your eyelid so it’s applied uniformly throughout. I’ve found that if I don’t build it up on my eyelid like this and only apply a thin layer, it doesn’t hold at all and creases quickly or makes eyeshadow colors uneven by showing higher pigments in the more concentrated areas.

So really blend and build onto your lid so that it’s uniform and thicker in consistency. Once you get this consistency, you have to close your eyes or look down for at least 30 seconds. You can fan yourself, as you’re waiting to help ensure it dries.

After that, voila, you can now apply your eyeshadow and liner with a peace of mind knowing that it’ll last the day without smudging, creasing, etc. I can’t put on eye makeup without an eye primer now.

It’s a must in my makeup routine. I only took off one star because it doesn’t work perfectly every single time. As I said, there’s a learning curve to it that you personally have to practice and discover the right consistency with your own eyelid first.

Since everyone’s eyelid is different in regards to oily-ness, the type of face wash or lotion you put prior, etc. It’s not a simple apply a swipe and voila type of product. You also have to mix the consistency on your eyelid since you can’t shake it up or stir it directly in the packaging first because of the design mechanism.

I was shocked to see how tiny the tube was, being used to using Urban Decay and others of similar size and quality. It’s like a deluxe sample. The primer is good but not any better than Urban Decay, MAC, or even.

(gasp!) Wet N Wild. For comparison purposes, the MAC tube offers 0. 4 oz for $27. The same amount of this primer would cost $76. Not even exaggerating. Yes, a little goes a long way, but it’s been my experience that they ALL do.

The contours of my eyes sometimes make it difficult to get shadow on evenly without clumps of darker spots. Prime Time eradicates this issue and allows shadow to go on much more smoothly and evenly. I often wear it even without shadow.

It brightens my eyelids and makes my eyes pop. It also makes applying liner easier, which is an art and craft unto itself, so any assist is much appreciated.

I’ve used a several eyeshadow primers and this is by far my favorite. There is no stickiness, and it keeps the shadow on all day. You’re able to build up your shadow easier as well, and it’s still blend able.

This doesn’t irritate my eyes like other eyeshadow primers have done. You only use a tiny amount for each eye, so it lasts a long time. Great product!.

I have slightly oily deep set/hooded eyes and this is my HG eye primer. I’ve used alllll the primers out there at this point (with exception to Beauty Bay’s eye base, a review of that to follow) and this is the best for me so far.

I used to like UD PP but this is better for oil control and keeping eyeshadow looking freshly applied all day. You can put concealer over it too. You may need to use a skin tone eyeshadow shade/face powder as a transition for a seamless blend but you should probably do that regardless of which primer you use.

Awesome that it’s super cheap too! Just don’t use too much otherwise it can look a little chalky. You literally need like a 2mm dot for both eyes. Lasts ages. 11/10!.

As soon as I tried this one, I fell in love with it. It’s the only one that keeps my eye shadow looking fresh, all day long without any oily residue, and it’s a nice-sized tube that’ll last a long time.

A little goes a long way! I’ve been using this for years, but then all of a sudden, stores weren’t carrying this anymore! I started to panic because I used up my last tube a while back and I’ve been squeezing out what little remained! So I checked online and found this site and ordered some.

So happy that I’ve been able to replenish my stock. I had purchased other brands, but they were either too greasy, or didn’t have the staying power that this primer has! I hope this product stays around for a long time!.

I suffer with very hooded eyelids that get very oily. I researched eye primers that would be good for this issue and this primer had good reviews. I have to say I’m amazed! I’ve used it a couple of times and my eyeshadow doesn’t budge AT ALL! I even tested it by not taking my make up off until 24 hours later and there was no transfer or creasing, even if I rubbed my eyes the make up didn’t transfer to my finger.

Its not easy to remove with wipes or micellar water, you’d need a make up balm or something similar to get it off. Definitely would recommend. And remember, a little goes a long way!.

I bought this to try under the eyes in addition to eyelids. It worked better than so many under-eye primers I’ve tried. I used a small dot on each under eye, let it dry then added my corrector and concealer.

I also added the tiniest amount of translucent powder, which was probably not needed because of the primer’s consistency when dry. Typically, with other under-eye primers, my concealer will fade within a couple of hours revealing a lot of under-eye darkness, and it will settle into the lines which doesn’t look great so I often will need to pat my under-eye with my finger to smooth it out.

This primer really fills in the finer lines and keeps the concealer from moving. And as a bonus, eyeliner applied to the waterline stays perfect. As for the lids, it does seem to keep my eye shadow from settling and fading but I had a minimal shadow look when I tried it out as I was most curious to see how this would work under the eye.

I have only used this product once so hopefully I will still feel the same way in another week later. Hope this review helps you out.

After many years of using Urban Decay, Two Faced, Lancome and others, I tried the Hourglass Eye Primer based on reviews. This stuff is simply AMAZING and anyone over 60 must try it. The other primers would dry the skin underneath my bottom lashes.

Hourglass is non-drying and does not crease on the upper lid. It is easy to apply and dries quickly. It is clear on the skin so it doesn’t alter the eye shadow color like Lancome does. I can’t say enough about how wonderful this product is.

I will always keep 1-2 unused ones in my stash as I never want to run out.

I was recommended this by my local store team as the usual eye primer I use from Nars was out of stock. It is lightly tinted which helps with minor eyelid discolouration. I apply before doing any other makeup and a good few minutes before applying eyeshadow – either cream or powder.

It has a velvety texture and blends on well providing a smooth canvas for makeup application. Definitely improves staying power of makeup with eyeshadow less creased. However it is difficult to dispense the small amount I need from the tube and I feel like I waste product, therefore 4 rather than 5 stars for me.

I have very sensitive eyes. Most eye primers make my eyes water all day long. If I dont use primer my eyeshadow disappears rapidly because I have oily lids. This primer is so great! I don’t have watery eyes or oiliness! This is amazing to me.

It also hides the darkness on my lids. I will never buy another eye primer again!.

I had to come here and leave a review. I receive quite a few subscription boxes so with that I have tried many eyeshadow primers and this one took the cake. I am in love with this product. It’s creamy and soft and it is a perfect base color for my eyeshadow and it keeps my eyeshadow look on all day.

I’ve been using this eyeshadow primer for years–ever since the F. Y. eye! eyeshadow primer was discontinued–and I haven’t found any primer that could top it. Not even the most highly recommended eyeshadow primers.

I have extremely oily eyelids, but I love bold eyes, and this product made it possible for me. It protects my eyeshadow all day and all night, and I’ve even slept in my makeup and gotten up in the morning with it looking almost flawless.

Another bonus is that it accentuates eyeshadow colors and makes them pop. It does go without saying, though, that the one downside is that it’s drying. This becomes more noticeable with aging skin. It’s also a bit of a pain to blend eyeshadows on top of it.

However, it’s totally worth it because I’d rather deal with this than look like I came back from a bender only three hours into the day.

I’ve had oily skin my entire life and have always had issues with eye makeup smudging and creasing. I’d been using a very popular primer from another brand for years and while it definitely helped, I was still creasing by the end of the day.

I had assumed there was nothing for it, and that this was just what I could expect. I received a sample of this primer with another order and figured that I’d give it a try. Holy cow am I glad I did! This stuff makes my eye makeup stay in place the entire day, no creasing or smudging at all! I used it for my wedding makeup and it lasted the entire day, pictures and stress and all, as well as through the post-ceremony nap that I desperately needed.

That’s right -it lasted the whole day, including through me sleeping with my makeup on (something I don’t to very often, I promise) with no smudging at all. This is my new go-to primer. I’m never going back.

When I tell you this is THE best eye shadow primer, I mean it. I’ve tried them all. I have combo skin, and my eyelids have a tendency to get super oily throughout the day, but they can also get dry and flakey at times too.

This primer solves both of those issues and completely smooths the skin to a perfectly balanced canvas for the entire day, no touch ups required. You can even use this on your nose as a primer if your makeup tends to separate in that area and it works great!! I will buy this for life!!.

I wanted to like this primer SO much! It has a beautiful shimmer to it and is honestly something I’d be fine with wearing on its own. However, it has two major downsides. First, the color of it is ‘nude’ (read: really only blends in with very light skintones).

It worked for me because I’m so white that I might as well be a Live Laugh Love bumper car sticker, but I don’t think it would work very well for darker skin tones. Part of the appeal for me is that it matches my skin well enough that it makes the eyeshadow pop without leaving behind a clear border, but if you don’t have my particular skin shade, you lose out on that benefit.

Second, my sensitive skin was NOT a fan of this. It looked great, but wasn’t worth my eyes feeling like they were on fire. Tl;dr, I’d say this’ll work for you in general if you don’t have crazy sensitive skin like I do, but there are a) better shadow primers out there and b) shadow primers that aren’t made with the assumption that everyone who uses makeup has light skin.

I’m giving it three stars because it works alright, but it’s a no from me overall.

I was very hopeful when i purchased the e. l. f. Shadow lock eye primer. I had heard so many great reviews from friends and also checked online for costomer satisfaction. At first application the primer held the color of the eyeshadow beautifully but within one or two hours the product had settled into the creases of my eyelids and and wrinkles and started to separate on my oily skin.

I tried using this product several times with different methods and the end result was always the same. The primer worked the best and stayed put the longest when i applied a setting power before applying the eye shadow and finishing with a good setting spray.

This product would most definitely work well on anyone that does not have overly oily skin.

I had originally purchased via Boots website last year – but I thought the product was very dry and difficult to apply. 6 months later, I decided that this was not working and decided to order direct from Elizabeth Arden.

I thought perhaps the product had sat for too long on the Boots ‘shelf’ and it was maybe old stock. However, this time – Eye Fix direct from E. Arden – I am still finding the texture quite dry and therefore difficult to apply evenly over the eye lids.

But I wouldn’t apply my eye make up without it – used it for decades! Nearly 80 yrs now! I wear specs for short sight and eye make up helps to keep the eyes alive!! The Eye Fix product keeps the eye shadow in tact – no streaking or patching.

I like to have a smokey smudge look – understated rather than loud colours – mauve tints work quite well with a VERY FINE eye liner & mascara. I have not come across a substitute eye fix from any of the main cosmetic companies.

I have been a loyal EA user of EVERYTHING since1992. yes THIRTY years. I worked behind the counter as a beauty advisor and also as an Acct Exec covering the KY, IN, IL area for a few years. I STILL try to stay loyal to the brand and I’m intrigued by the reviews I have read about the EYE FIX product changing.

I “thought” it was just me who found the product not working as well and as easily as I have been accustomed to over the years. Is it TRUE that the formula changed???? I do find it more difficult to use, but I had chalked it up (in general) to aging.

This is one product that several of my friends who sell for other cosmetic companies have my attention to “try” to break away from my 30 yr usage history.

This primer works sooo well! I love the clean look it gives to my eye lids. Definitely would buy again.

My eye shadow usually gets clumpy at the crease. But with this primer it stays on perfectly and doesn’t get clumpy as the day goes on.

I love elf as a company and most of their products. This predictable eye primer is crap. I really tried hard to make this primer work but it was smudgey it creased after a hour and it got it made my lids super oily.

It felt tacky on my eye lids which if you have ever felt that you know just how annoying that feels. I do love the price, but it is the worst primer I have ever used. Luckily they have other eye primer that work great.

I love the eye putty, this one just wasn’t it.

I can’t explain how much I LOVE this product. The first time I wore it I applied it in the morning, then applied eyeshadow, then went SWIMMING and still had eyeshadow on. I won’t wear eyeshadow without priming with this first.

For the price, it is truly my favorite makeup product of all time.

I really like this product. Having skin of colour, it’s not easy to find clean eye shadows that actually show up. But this makes everything more vibrant. I have a 100% Pure pallet that barely showed up and faded so quickly, I felt like I had wasted my money.

But this makes the colour pop and stay on all day, I was really impressed. I use this every time I wear any eye shadow (I also have an Athr Beauty pallet) and it hasn’t failed me. A little bit goes a long way.

Sometimes I’ll just use it with my liquid eyeliner to get it to pop more. I highly recommend.

Overall, I’d say this is a decent eye primer. It’s my first clean eye primer (I usually just use concealer), so I can’t compare it to others. My experience has been that it DOES hold my shadow, and I definitely think the mineral shadows I have been using need a primer.

They adhere nicely to it, and it holds pretty well. The only time I have had issues with it is if my eye waters (which they do from time to time), but I have yet to find a product that would hold up to a watery eye or tears.

I’d say it’s a great product if you’re using mineral or loose shadows and want something with a little more staying power than a layer of concealer – it definitely helps them stick.

Its a straight up dupe, just cleaner, greener and smaller. Its a small one, i was quite surprised when I opened the box but it does the job and you really do not need a lot of product on your eye lid.

No Scent however its power to keep your eye shadow in place is phenomenal. It brightens the eye shadows colour while at the same time keeping the product in place. It dries quick so you have to be quick with your application.

It ha lasted me from 7 in the morning all the way to when i wash my face for the night, 9 in the evening. The texture of this product is very similiar to an eyecream, you’re almost skeptical of the performance.

The smashbox Eye primer was a bit waxy, clay like so thats what I was expecting with Alimas. Its silky, smooth but once you apply becomes tacky enough to adhere to your eyeshadow. I do have oily lids so i can attest to the fact that I do not crease by hour 9.

JUSt MAKE SURE TO GIVE IT SOME TIME TO DRY! Will repurchase!.

Robert Welsh inspired me to try this. The moment I applied it, I could already tell why he loves it, and it just kept getting better! The tip feels like silk gliding across the lid. It blends out effortlessly and seamlessly.

My lids do have a bit of texture, and this product is magically crease-proof. I use this as a primer with fantastic results, but Ignite also looks perfect on my skin tone (light/medium warm) so I also use it by itself to brighten up the eye area, and I love it for this.

I was super tickled about the full-size of Bubbly in the 12 Days of Sigma box, which isn’t far from Ignite, but has a lovely shimmer, and also wears beautifully by itself. Awesome product!.

i heard this product from robert welsh and was curious about it. i was a user of mac paint pot in soft ochre but i found it way too drying and patchy when i would apply it to my lids. it would apply unevenly and would be quite hard to blend eyeshadow on top of it because of it being so dry and patchy.

it wouldn’t give me that much coverage either because it was so patchy. it was what i was looking for though: a waxy-ish base with slight color to cover my lids (i have discolored lids) but i wish it was more: i felt like something was missing this sigma eyeshadow base is exactly what i was looking for.

i love that it’s in a tube, so i can just swipe it on my lids and blend with my fingers quickly. no need to rub my finger in a pot and pat it on my lids like i did with mac paint pot. it gives me the coverage without being too dry.

it’s super even and not patchy and eyeshadows blend beautifully on top of it. ignite is a good match for soft ochre paint pot. please never discontinue this product!!!.

At first I wasn’t sure I would like this color. My first stick was more a two-for – great as a base, but also as a shadow. The Persuade is a fantastic base and also alone for those no make up days. It smooths and evens out your lids, giving you a more wide eyed and brightened look.

Used as a shadow base, it extends shadow wear and also gives the eye a smooth canvas for easy blending. The sticks are very pigmented, so a little goes a long way. Great addition to my collection!.

It gives soft texture on skin. I would definitely recommend this product and brand too. Its better to search for offers before buying. Have different shades of color for different skin tones. I like to visit above stores only to buy this and find offers.

I’ve always bought drugstore primer and thought that it worked pretty well. After stumbling across this primer on Amazon I decided to give it a try based on the many positive reviews. I have seriously been missing out all these years! This goes on easily and feels like it is luxuriously moisturizing my lids.

I wear this at work for 12+ hours and my makeup is crease free and lasts all day. I also noticed that my shadows definitely pop more with this primer vs my old drugstore brand. The fact that it is cruelty free is a plus to me as well.

I would recommend this to everyone and look forward to trying more of theBalm products based on my experience with this primer.

Ok I’m not even joking when I say this but this for me was the best eye primer I have ever tried. I love this eye primer so much. I went through so many that creased my eyelids. I have very oily skin and eye lids.

I came across this in an Ipsy bag, tried a full size and was obsess. It’s price is amazing. Only this is I wish they sold it in stores. You might be able to find it at a kohl’s like I did but every time I went they told me that they haven’t restocked.

It’s hard guys buying a product online for one item. But I love this. It’s 1000 times better than the urban decay eye primer.

I have hooded, sensitive eyes, and very oily lids. I really struggle keeping eyeshadow in place, tried every primer out there. Many don’t even last until I’ve finished applying makeup. But this one does! I’ve used it a few times, and I’m really pleased that the inevitable creasing hasn’t happened, I still have eyeshadow on my lids when I’m taking it off at bedtime.

Evens out skin tone on the eyelid creating a blurring effect which is great if I am rushing to get ready for a short notice zoom call and I don’t have time to do the full eyeshadow look. Eyeliners and eyeshadow sit nicely on top of this primer and last and last all day.

Super product at an equally super price. I have used primers twice the price and they do not come close to this one! Must buy.

My eyelids skin is usually uneven and tends to have some redness and this primer created a nice even tone on them. It prepared smooth canvas for eyeshadows and pencil aplication – all of those went on really smoothly and their color was more vibrant.

The only downside is the staying power – I would like it to be a bit longer. After half a day, the products started to gather in my creases.

This is a really great primer for eyeshadows. I found this when a different brand I used was out and need a primer since my eyeshadows crease etc. This is a great alternative primer. Great product. My eyeshadows stay in place and doesn’t crease.

I started using a primer around a year ago was recommended to use a primer because my eye area can be oily.

so I have been a LOYAL lancome user since u was 17. I am now 42 and my skin has changed causing me to need primer to achieve good eyeshadow applications. Of course my go to was this product. I have used it many times, changing up my routine to give it longer to dry, hoping it would work.

it is Lancome so I must be doing something wrong right? Well I give up! It gets gummy, and never once had a decent application. Finally got tired of it and am now going to try Lancome’s older style of primer called aquatique.

Have my fingers crossed!.

Why did Lancome feel the need to replace Aquatique with Prime It Boost It? This product is very drying and looks pasty white. There is no choice of color to match skin tones. My Lancome eyeshadows do not go on well over this replacement nor does it blend in.

I have been wearing Aquatique 02 Beige Porcelaine ever since they first introduced the product, it was matched to my skin tone. My eye lids looked bright, healthy and beautiful and my eye shadow when on wonderfully! I loved it! Please, please bring Aquatique back, and soon, especially the 02 color.

This is absolutely the best eye stay primer ever. Goes on evenly and does not cake the way others do. My eye lids tend to grow oily during the day causing my eye shadow to slip into and irritate my eyes.

This primer controls the oil, keeping my eye makeup in place until I am ready to remove it. I buy 2 at a time since I worry Guerlain may decide to discontinue it by replacing it with something else.

I’ve tried at least a dozen different eye primers, from various brands, and this one has become my favorite. I like that it is in a tube, that keeps the product fresh and avoids it drying out and clumping (which happens with primers that are in a tube with a wand applicator).

You also get a lot more product in this tube than you do with a wand primer. This goes on very easily, absorbs instantly and isn’t greasy or oily. It gives your eyelids a smooth canvas for your eye shadow.

I’ve used this with powdered eye shadows and cream shadows and it works perfectly with either. It makes my shadows easier to blend, and my shadows stay on all day. It is basically colorless, it’s not tinted, yet it does cover some of my eyelid discoloration.

It also looks nice worn alone, it really lightens up your eyes. As I said it’s one of the best I’ve used (I also love the Clarins eye primer, but that one is tinted), and I will definitely buy this again.

It might cost more than some of the others but this one will last a long time and give you more mileage for your money.

I am so glad I gave this eye primer a try. I had never used a primer before and needed one due to my eyes becoming more red on the eyelid and darker under eyes over the years. Love the way it blends in and leaves a mire even look.

I’d never tried any ArtDeco products before so I wasn’t sure what to expect but this eyeshadow primer is by far the best one I have ever tried. You don’t need a lot as it blends out very easily. It’s very thick and pigmented and so covers up any discolouration in your skin.

It makes eye shadows so easy to blend and keeps them in place for hours, without any creasing. I will definitely buy again.

I used to have oily skin however as im growing older i have very sensitive dry skin and my eyelids tend to flake. this eye primer doest crease on me or aggravates my eczema. Eyeshadows are easy to blend on it and they stay in play my whole day.

It’s the only primer i use on my eyes. love it.
