20 Best External Monitor For Macbook Air (2023 Updated)

You can get a similar model with same specs for half the price. This product was defective right out the box. It would not stay connected to my laptop and would flicker on and off. It would would for a very short period of time.

I tried replacing the cable and had the same issues. I ended up returning this item 4 days later.

There is always anxiety for me when I buy something based solely on what I see on their website. I can tell you that I purchased it and was able to track it easily all the way to my door. I opened it, plugged it in to my laptop- it started immediately and has been perfect since.

I wish everything in life was this easy.

Setup was very simple and easy (even for a non techy person like me). High quality screen, sturdy stand (easy to make it stand too)), and reasonable price. Overall, an excellent product and would highly recommend!.

This monitor until recently was the only Thunderbolt 3 option for a MacPro 7. 1 2019 desktop other than the XBR at ~3X the price. Visually it is a great display but has major flaws. In particular a flaky internal USB Hub.

If other devices are connected to its internal hub, other than the computer it may result in a kernel panic on computer shutdown which manifests itself as a long shutdown delay and either a kernel panic on restarting or a ‘watchdog’ error message on login or both, The LG internal hub also has very limited power capability and over straining it such as charging devices from it may damage the board requiring repair.

This was reported to me by an authorized repair center of my previous unit who showed me a stack of interface boards when I took my previous one in for repair. I took my previous one into repair after it failed after having it for 15 months – 3 months out of warranty.

It was unable to be repaired due to display failure. The only support or compensation I received from LG was a few hundred-dollar check to purchase a new one as the cost of repair was the same or more than a new unit.

While a solid stand it lacks freedom of movement. Horizontal movement is limited and the monitor cannot be rotated into portrait mode. I chose to use the VERSA mount and purchase a StarTech Monitor Stand which allows this.

My advice, should you choose to purchase this monitor, be sure to get an extended warranty; do not use the rear connectors for anything other than connecting to the computer; and replace the stand with one that offers more flexibility.

Purchased the 32UL950-W on Amazon Prime day ’20 to make advantage of the slightly discounted price in combination with rewards points I’d accumulated. This brought the cost down from very expensive to merely expensive.

Opted for this model for two primary reasons: screen real estate and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Also influencing my decision: I’ve a LG OLED 55″ TV that I’m very pleased with. In these times of WFH where home office space is at a premium I use the LG for double duty.

The HDMI input is connected directly to my work issued Dell laptop. I work 12-hour shifts on a rotating, two week schedule so having a high quality display makes it easier to stare at for hours on end.

The second connection is via TB3 to a CalDigit TS3Plus also connected by TB3 to a late-2016 MacBook Pro where I predominantly use Audio/MIDI software as an amateur musician. The 2nd USB-C connection on the 32UL950 is used for a Logitech StreamCam as there is no built in Webcam on the LG.

This is used for FaceTime and Zoom calls with an eye towards doing some live streaming. This configuration allows me to easily swap between work and home by merely toggling between input connections on the LG.

The OnScreen Control app is useful, but I’d already been using Mosaic (and previously Magnet) to manage window layouts on macOS 10. 15. I seem to recall having difficulty running the bundled apps and firmware from the web download URLs and opted to install those from the bundled CD and allow them to auto-updated individually until I arrived at the current versions when I installed the LG.

YMMV. In combination with the MBP, my 50something year old eyes find the 2560 x 1440 setting the easiest to read, but I typically run at 3008 x 1692 as an acceptable compromise between maximizing the screen real estate and readability.

That said, this monitor looks fantastic at 3840 x 2160 which I use on occasion for streaming content. In regards to software the welcome trend of scalable GUI’s makes it easier to use this monitor when running at higher resolutions, but not all legacy software will see this type of update hence switching between resolutions is nice.

Prior to opting for this monitor I’d long considered the very capable 27UK850 (now replaced by the 27UN850), but opted for this display as previously stated, due to the larger screen and TB3 connectivity.

That being said, I’m fairly confident I could have run a comparable configuration utilizing the DisplayPort option on either of those monitors. The lack of a built in WebCam is a concern and I opted for the StreamCam to make use of 1080p at 60fps which USB 3.

0 (on a USB-C connection) accommodates for (at some expense of CPU. ) File under ‘In for a penny, in for a pound. ‘ I’ve run various other USB accessories (Flash Drives and and external LG CD-ROM) from the additional ports on the 32UL950 with no issues.

I appreciate the inclusion of these ports as they can be useful at times. The mounting stand is sturdy and easily assembled and obscures the cables from view, but I’ve a notion my home office desk will be replaced/upgraded at which point I’ll acquire a mounting arm to free up even more desktop space.

I bought this monitor for a MacBook Air running in clamshell mode. Picture quality is outstanding but the USB hub stopped working after about a month. This rendered the USB-C and USB-A ports useless.

I had gotten a message on the monitor that there was too much power draw (had a backup drive and and iPhone plugged into the USB-A ports) and the ports stopped working. When I removed one, they started working again.

A few days later the ports went out again – this time permanently, even though nothing was plugged in other than the Mac on the USB-C port. The USB-C port provided a video feed to the monitor and the monitor provided power to the Mac.

Fortunately the HDMI port was still working, so with the aid of more cables and a docking station, I was able to get it working again. I purchased this monitor specifically for its USB capabilities but there are apparently maximum power requirements that are not well stated in the specs.

Even if these were known, many peripherals (e. g. backup drives) do not provide this information, so the only way to find out if current draws are too high are to plug them in. LG needs to have some sort of robust protection on its USB circuity so that a reset can happen more than one time.

Would recommend against purchasing this monitor for the USB hub feature.

I still am on the hunt for my perfect budget-friendly MacBook Pro desktop companion, but this is the closest I’ve found. My previous purchases for this purpose have been the much more expensive (~$275) Lenovo ThinkVision P24h.

I was excited to try this option that’s a full $125 cheaper. The good stuff: • Looks good. Almost no bezel on 3 sides and very small bezel on the bottom make this a very attractive looking option on your desk.

Things I’d like it to have: • A couple USB ports • Adjustable height • 2k resolution • The charging isn’t quite enough for a 16″ MacBook Pro (2020). Sometimes it is, but sometimes it isn’t • No USB-C Cable included.

Gotta find your own, and the market is a little confusing. Fortunately I found one that worked. That said, decent value for the price. Will consider buying again if I need to make a purchase for a 13″ MacBook Pro with limited USB port needs.

Got this for the USB-C connection. Was connecting to a Surface Pro 7 through a Surface Dock 2. The USB-C to HDMI adapter didn’t work well this way. With the USB-C direct from the Dock to the screen, connects every time I plug the dock into the Surface Pro 7.

Otherwise, looks great, good color, built in speakers (adequate for basic desktop use), and reasonable price for a USB-C monitor. The downside, no USB hub (if it did, I wouldn’t need the Dock). That would have increased the price too much.

This monitor is perfect for WFH, it works on both PC/MAC. You should download the driver for PC, MAC works out of the box. I had to get a separate thunderbolt 3 cable, luckily we had them at work($40).

Did not work at first, after driver installation and reboot, I had to plug in laptop first then the power to the monitor and boom it works. Sometimes I have to repeat process for MAC, but PC seems to work fine.

Tested on Dell E7480 and MBP(2018) 15″ and 13″.

I love this monitor. It requires absolutely no setup. I used a USB cable to connect it to my laptop and that was it! The picture is superb also, with no glare.

You should be out of business if customers cannot you! Stop telling people to use that 1800 number. Crazy! Scam

So there are definitely some good things about this display, like the fact that it has very nice OS integration (for Mac OS anyway, don’t count on any support at all in Windows, you can’t even adjust the brightness!), and of course the 5K panel is great.

But for this price, there’s a lot of missing features. For example, it’s got 500 nits of peak brightness, which is awesome, yet doesn’t support HDR. Another thing, it’s only got one video input source, so if you plan on using it with more than one device you’re going to have to manually switch the cables yourself every time you want to change inputs, there are no menu buttons at all, there’s no OSD even.

The latest version supports DisplayPort but only at 4K resolution, so if you’re thinking about using this with an external GPU at its native 5K resolution, think again, and the previous version doesn’t even have DisplayPort support, it will only accept thunderbolt input sources.

Also no freesync support either, not that anyone would game on this but such a thing is trivial for the mfg to add, and LG has it on all their other ultrafine displays. The build quality makes it look like it was designed 10 years ago, it’s all cheap plastic and it’s somewhat thick as well.

So given all of this, why is this display priced so high? Unless you absolutely need 5K I would say skip this and wait for better options that will be out next year.

I have been using this for 12 hours daily since Feb 2021 with a MacBook Air M1 and MS Surface Pro. Prior to this I used the 32 in 4k LG Ergo but that was causing me eyestrain. I also got the Dell 4k 2720q which is fine for the price but is also not as clear for text.

The tb3 and powered ports with supplied cables eliminated any need for a dock. It has only glitched once on me but a power off and restart a couple of times fixed that fortunately. I was hesitant to spend this much due to the reports of it suddenly dying on folks but until Apple comes out with a display of their own, its really the only option.

As always, B&H had the best price and service!.

Very sharp. Better color than the first LG I got. Also, better viewing angle. First LG (not a 5k) had poor viewing angle that resulted in screen vignetting if I wasn’t dead on 90 degrees. This does not have that issue.

The stand allows the monitor to go 7 above the top of the stand base. Nice to have the higher range. No ghosting of items on the screen. Had monitor about three weeks now. So far so good. Comes fully assembled.

Just lift out of the box and turn it on.

I first bought the Macbook Air M1, and that’s the day all my accessories were basically useless. A year later, I’m starting to change the way I select accessories. This screen is absolutely amazing, and is a must-have for my largely-remote work life.

Power drain is very minimal, the screen refresh rate has surpassed my expectations, and the carrying case is decent. Without drivers, this screen “just works” with the Macbook Air (though, no auto-rotate from what I can determine) and the included USB-C to USB-C cable.

That’s handy, so I don’t have to lug around adapters everywhere; just the Macbook Air, the screen. I’ve spent several hours out of the home office with just these two, no power adapter, and returning home with plenty of battery life to spare.

The screen is very kind on energy. Macbook Air still cannot power TWO external monitors through the Lightning ports. Alas, you may need to find the Asus Zenbook 165B (the USB-3 Type-A connector) to MAYBE achieve multi-monitor support.

I ordered this monitor after returning a similar model made by Lepow. The difference in quality between the Lepow monitor and this one are like night and day. This monitor looks great, was basically plug and play, and appears durable.

Don’t settle for products made by unknown brands, spend the money and buy from a reputable company with years of experience and great customer support. ***Update*** I’ve had a few months to use this monitor and I just want to add that I’m incredibly impressed with the picture and ease of use.

This monitor is everything I was hoping it’d be and more. Quick and easy to connect, especially on the go. It’s a beautiful monitor, thin and light. Fits in my laptop bag, along with my 15. 6 inch laptop.

If you don’t need a monitor with multiple connections, a battery, and/or speakers, I highly recommend this one.

Purchased this monitor as a second unit for travel. Due to COVID pandemic, travel was of course cancelled. ZenScreen worked for 4 months, then it would not power up. Requested RMA in 2020, and in 3 months, received the unit back in an extremely dirty box.

I assumed that the unit was repaired. Finally traveled in late 2021 and tried to use the ZenScreen. It still will not power up — same exact symptom. Basically, I charged up the ZenScreen for a day, then plugged in the HDMI cable to the Windows 10 laptop, and pressed the power button on the ZenScreen.

Nothing. No power light indicator. USB-C to power adapter and HDMI to laptop HDMI port. There is no other testing process with the ZenScreen, either it powers up or not. Submitted a second RMA. Hopefully this second RMA would be more successful.

I use this monitor as the second monitor in a two monitor set up. It is a quality monitor. Four USB ports, not including the USB port used to attach the monitor to the computer. I like the way the USB ports are arranged.

Two are near the other cables and are hard to reach but that is ok because I use those to permanently attach external USB devices. Two are at the bottom of the screen. In one I have a dongle for my high-end printer software and the other has my wireless mouse receiver.

It has one DisplayPort, one HDMI port and one VGA port for those still using older technology. But if I were going to connect via VGA, I would get a less expensive monitor. There is no DVI port. If you wish to connect via HDMI, you will have to purchase a HDMI cable separately.

My one complaint is the On/Off button is located on the back. Certain family members get their fingerprints on the screen while trying to find the On/Off button. The button, while on the back, is directly above the on light (which is in the front) so that can make it easier for people to find the button if they can remember this hint.

Assembly was not difficult and it is height and tilt adjustable, which is important to me.

This is one of the best monitor I have used in the recent while. It is not just a monitor but also a hub and a laptop charger baked into one. My webcam, headphone, mouse and keyboard dongle are all connected directly to the monitor.

What’s more useful is that I use the USB-C connection to not only connect to my laptop (to extend the display) but also charge the laptop using the same wire and within same connection. It is just amazing and just works.

The whole setup is just one wire connection and it works like a charm. There is so less clutter. I was also able to remove the need of a power extension with this monitor as well. The picture quality and the dynamic picture mode has also been working really well for me.

The bezels are very sleek and overall provides a very modern look to the monitor. I have felt that it is also easy on the eyes as well. I highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a neat and practical work from home setup.

This purchase is worth every penny!.

This monitor is working very well after five months use but I did consider returning it in first six weeks, owing to its complexity. I am now very pleased and think that it will last well over the long run and as I learn its quirks.

I have purchased computers and peripherals since the 1980s. The physical features (turns, rotates, portrait, landscape, built-in loudspeakers) are really great. A problem is the use of five tiny buttons along the bottom and which are hard to see, but critical for proper use.

The screen resolution, colours, contrast, and all adjustable but the monitor does not always seem to retain the settings, or some are incompatible with others in a way that I do not yet understand. For example, the monitor has an extensive set of SMART options for sensing user presence, adjusting blue shift, adjusting screen contrast, and so on, but the use of one negates the use of another in a way that is not described in the manual, or elsewhere, and known only to the design engineers.

Phone support was basic when tried. Monitor has an extensive set of connections, for use with many types of computer, but its abilities depend upon which connections are in use. For example, no problem with wake from sleep by bluetooth keyboard touch if connected via HDMI.

If connected via USB-C only, and using a bluetooth keyboard/mouse, then wake from sleep can require waking monitor first by button push, and then waking the computer by mouse or keyboard. Frustrates my partner.

Other posts on shopping sites have described some issues arise when using USB-C only as a connection and USB 3. 2 is enabled for the monitor ports,for peripherals. I have set the USB bus to 2. 0 and avoid such issues.

Download of the user manual is an absolute must. It’s impossible to understand the settings and choices otherwise. It is clear from the types of questions asked on various sites that users have not found the manual and so cannot resolve even simple features such as turning on audio speakers, adjusting contrast, etc.

The sole support issue so far is that on the first day, when carefully turning the monitor 90 degrees landscape to portrait, the end of the supplied USB-C cable ripped off. I requested another from the phone support and it was mailed at no cost.

In dealing with the first level support ( a third party company) and asking other questions, it was clear that the operator was merely reading through scripts and did not have as much information as I did when using the downloaded manual.

So i stopped asking difficult set-up questions. All in all, after five months I would give it just less than 5 stars owing to some quirks.

tldr; using the “fast charging” port on my monitor completely broke my iPhone, forcing me to buy a new one. I purchased this monitor about 2 weeks ago. One of the USB-A ports on the side of the monitor is advertised as a “fast charging” port for your smartphone.

On the second day of use, after plugging in my iPhone XS for about 15 minutes (before charging, my phone had maybe 60% battery), I noticed that my phone was no longer responding or turning on. I tried powering it all the way down but to no avail.

Tried charging it through a normal wall outlet, through my power strip, through my computer: nothing worked. My iPhone is about 3 years old, and it had no known battery or performance issues. The next day I had an appointment at the Apple Store, and a tech confirmed my worst fear.

Somehow in those 15 minutes of “fast charging” through my monitor, something had damaged my phone’s internal circuitry and made it unable to receive/circulate power. The tech noted that this was not just a dead battery issue (in which case they could just replace it), but an issue with the whole phone, and unfortunately the only option I had was to buy a new phone.

I took my phone to another 3rd-party repair shop, and they had the same diagnosis that a particular chip had short-circuited, which they very often see when customers use 3rd party chargers or power supplies.

My Philips customer support experience has been extremely poor so far. Their phone number is difficult to find (you have to call a specific number for monitor support), and many times I’ve been put on hold only later to be hung up on.

It’s been over 2 weeks since my phone was damaged (I have since had to purchase a new phone with my own money), and Philips is still verifying my case. Absolutely infuriating. I’m definitely never plugging anything else into the “fast charging” port on my monitor, but honestly I would just recommend avoiding this monitor altogether.

The damage to my phone combined with the horrible customer service makes it unlikely I’ll purchase from Philips ever again. Wish I could rate lower than 1 star.

Its a nice monitor. This model doesn’t have Picture in Picture like the European model? For the money you can get that feature in Gigabyte for a lower cost. Phillips has a problem with marketing their displays with the same picture of a drop of water on different models that have different features.

As a professional buyer, I got lost with this one. Part of the decision was made for easy input change and PIP. The input change is accomplished with the little button on the panel or the software that needs a few clicks to change.

However, the OSD software is Old looking ( no Problem there ) and doesn’t offer a Keyboard Hotkey to change the input ( very disappointing ). Again Gigabyte wins with PIP and a hotkey for input changes.

ViewSonic VG2439m-LED 24″ Dear ViewSonic, I acquired the same model of the monitor but at the 21. 5 variety back in 2015 for my work from home setup. Since that time I moved 4 times, and these monitors never skipped a beat.

Recently, after a cross-country relocation, I retired those monitors (to my brother) for which they are still going strong. I am so pleased with these 24″ monitors for the following reasons. #1 I have and always will LOVE the interface of ViewSonic monitors, it’s clean, simple, easy, and for me consistent, I rate this higher than all others at the enterprise level; even Dell who produces the best enterprise-grade monitors but for individuals, small businesses this is not the best ROI.

#2 No frills keep costs low This has exactly what you need to be a productive student, and professional. It may seem lacking in the creative department but it’s accurate and unless you are a professional creator it is suitable.

#3 If you already use DisplayPort Technology (Dell / HP) it’s great once you get over the realization that it is simply a different shaped HDMI, but for this product and its a category we get amazing deals because so many people can’t seem to understand.

#4 ViewSonic please reach out to me if you want to sell this solution to large companies whose monitors asset collection is an utter mess leaving IT teams using avoidance measure’s and leaving end-users to DYI which has it’s pros/cons as an individual contributor but ultimately it’s a huge waste of time, effort, and the organization overall.

Low cost, ultrabasic, easy to use/configure, deploy RMA monitors such as these can easily rule the segment with the right sales strategy, who knows how low the pricing can get at scale for these? Bottom line if you want an easy use, quality build that will last for the next 5 to 10 years go with these monitors as 80% of the population does not require more than 1080 HD quality, 4k, 5k, 8k?! That’s for pros and entertainment, don’t over-buy yourself into spec.

I like how NICE it is that this Monitor came with ALL of the Cables and Connectors, to the point that I had (1) left over and can’t figure out if I need it or NOT because everything is WORKING OUT FINE!!! All I know is that the (4) that I attached are doing their job to give me a very good screen to look at.

I recently bought a “different” Brand Monitor for my son and then had to “BUY a VGA-to-HD Cable” for it to hook up to my son’s computer that didn’t have an HDMI port. That was a bummer and an additional cost.

Thankfully ViewSonic didn’t send me down that path of frustration. Though it is “Used/Like New”, they sent ALL the cables including an HD Type Connector (but USB) and I’m very glad that I chose another ViewSonic monitor.

I can only hope that this monitor lasts as long as the one I bought in 2005, in which I just took down yesterday to be replaced by THIS Monitor. That 2005 Monitor was a “REFURBISHED” tiny little cute 15″ monitor with the “Colorful Birds” on it and a Silver Frame.

I’m quite surprised that this Model ViewSonic Monitor doesn’t have the BIRDS anywhere to be seen on the Frame, but I guess that’s okay. I supposed the Birds flew away when this one was being made. (A silly joke).

Overall at the moment, I’m content. I just have to get used to it being SO BIG, after looking at 15″ for a long while.

Needed a way to allow Zoom and Teams video conferences using a Mac Mini. Had a hard time finding a monitor that said it would work. Took a chance on the ViewSonic. However, there were supply problems, and I was unable to buy one for many months.

I finally put my name on a wait list with B&H Photo. Took about 3 months but finally was notified of availability. Setup is not very intuitive with the included printed instructions. Need to go online and read through the more complete manual to find out how to enable the video feature using a USB cable.

HDMI cable only enables it as a monitor. Need to use a separate utility to control the monitor’s detailed settings. It’s not fabulous resolution on Zoom calls, but it does the job.

When excellent condition is used to describe the condition of a product that is being re-sold, you would expect essentially as new condition. I received the product in a timely fashion. Once I unpacked it, I found the base to have wear marks that to me would indicate a condition of very good.

After contacting sales support, I found the individual to be less than helpful when it came to my discovery of this. Of course, I can send it in for replacement, but the return costs will be at my expense.

This of course makes sense to prevent unnecessary returns, but doesnt help me to resolve what I feel is being sold an item that is not in the condition that I had expected based on the sales information provided.

I guess Ill keep the item, but this has really tempered my enthusiasm for buying at OWC in the future. Kind of disappointing really, since all other purchases have been fantastic. If they wouldve offered to refund the cost between excellent and very good I wouldve been extremely happy, but alasno dice.

I’m very happy with my Apple monitor from MacSales. It was easy to hook up to my Mac Book Pro, is in great condition (although has some small scratches on the back of it) and easy to use. It’s really up-leveled my laptop experience to now work on a large screen rather than a small laptop screen.

Great value too.

My 2012 Mac Mini couldn’t run a 4K display any higher than 1080p resolution. But it can run this Thunderbolt display at 2560 x 1440. I bought it for that resolution, but also really like the built in Firewire / Ethernet / USB2 hub.

The only drawback is the connecting Thunderbolt cable – there’s no way to extend it. You can only plug it directly into your Mac or into another Thunderbolt device connected to your Mac. No extension cable or Thunderbolt coupler seems to exist anywhere on earth, so I had to reconfigure everything to position the Mini within a meter of the Thunderbolt display, or pay another $300 for a basic docking station.

Considering Macs are moving past Thunderbolt in favor of USB3, that seems to be an imprudent investment. FWIW my 2014 MacBookPro runs that 4K monitor at 4K resolution no problem, so if your Mac is from this half of the decade, a new Acer monitor will usually be a better value than this used Thunderbolt display.

But if you’re running a 2012 Mini Quad Core – this display will breath new life into it.

Positives: 1) Lightweight 2) Clean design 3) Built in stand is sturdy and convenient Negatives: 1) Build quality 2) Price 3) Speakers would have been nice This is a decent plug and play monitor. It’s currently my main external monitor.

I wanted something small and portable and this does the job. It almost weighs nothing and doesn’t add much bulk. I’m very disappointed in the build quality though. I had to return my first monitor because a significant portion of the front bezel was unglued right out of the box.

My replacement was similar, but not major enough to go through the hassle of returning it as well. I hope it lasts a while before I have to glue it myself. I expected better build quality for the price, but the monitor itself does the job.

Other than that, I haven’t had any issues in the weeks that I’ve been using it.

At its core, this is a good quality monitor. The image quality is good and the resolution is high. However, the claim that it is ‘frameless’ on 3 sides is misleading in my view. But for the price, it is a decent package for my primary use which is business.

I bought this monitor for the USB-C connectivity which is excellent, meaning I can plug in my Macbook Pro with just a single cable, delivering power, video, audio and all other device connectivity. There are two key drawbacks to this product.

Firstly, although it has built in speakers, the sound quality is so poor that they are unusable. The sound is akin to that of a mobile phone – much worse than my laptop speakers. Secondly, I was horrified by the product’s packaging – full of non-recyclable plastic.

Very disappointing from a well-known brand.

Overall good monitor with rich connectivity and great real estate. It’s easy to get used to extra working space coming from UW1080p. I’m not a big fan of the menu buttons, joystick feels more intuitive.

KVM is great, when it works – it cannot wake up a sleeping PC, unless you manually choose the port instead of auto-switching with the input.

Picture is great, no dead pixels and the USB hub works very well. Connected to a laptop and desktop simultaneously over USB-C and display port. Has USB-C pass through charging for the laptop so I don’t need the power cable.

Speakers are surprisingly good for a monitor. Display curve not as intrusive as I thought it would be.

Very happy – great value for money, works great, easy to set up on Mac, pretty lightweight and great case to travel with. I use it as a second screen while on the move and it’s been fab so far. I was hesitant to buy this screen because I’d read mixed reviews about whether it would actually work on Mac (especially my old 2014 Mac), but it works perfectly on both 2014 Mac Air and 2021 Mac Air with USB-3 to USB-C adaptor.

I just had to download DisplayLink, allow permissions for it in my privacy settings, then open the DisplayLink program – then just plugged in the screen and it worked with no issues. Initially I had the same issue as other reviewers where I plugged in the screen and it just displayed “AOC”, then back to a black screen, turns out I just had to go to Applications on my Mac and re-open DisplayLink and it worked great after that.

Would prefer it to have a matte screen, as it has a fair bit of glare and you need to get the right angle, but it’s easy to adjust with the stand and it’s not a huge issue for me.

I got one of these to use as a third monitor on my main PC & while it does work well (auto-rotation is good) I find it drops out/disconnects a lot (yes I am running directly from a USB 3 port). Even just displaying a photo slide-show it drops out after a while.

It does say in the manual that it may drop out when when playing videos, but I would have thought a slide-show wouldn’t have been effected. On Windows 7 it also added an extra mouse driver which device manager lists as not functioning (so Windows is doing it’s usual thing of having a fit about it).

Have yet to try it on my Linux PC. So if you want another monitor for a static display this is perfect, if it’s anything that moves/changes often your taking your chances.

The single best investment in my laptop ever. I travel a lot and have struggled with one monitor on my laptop. This solves that, fits in my backpack and has made me far more productive. A small investment I will quickly reap a return on.

As Richie Benaud once said, super stuff that. I would suggest investing in a stand to sit it above your laptop, it can be a bit tough to get the angle just right and if you’re on a lappy you’re probably pushed for space, so get a stand and sit it above your laptop screen.

This monitor does a lot of things very well. It has that built-in colorimeter for calibration and does not need to be connected to a computer for it to automatically calibrate itself. The software that runs it is okay, I have some minor quibbles with it that can make it frustrating or confusing, I hope that can be ironed out over time.

I would think this monitor would be ideal for photographers with laptops, since it can charge the laptop and be used as a second screen. But, I’m a retoucher, and from my viewpoint, this monitor doesn’t cut it.

If I have two identical images up in two areas of the screen, they can appear different, so doing visual matches are tricky. I can see one side of the screen lighter and more cyan, and the other darker and reddish.

It is consistent with other screens that have problems with off-angle color reproduction. For the price, I would have thought this would have been more under control. I have several retouchers working on these and they all have the same complaint.

For some, the features this screen offers will make it just the right tool. For serious retouching, get the Eizo (if you can find one!).

Disappointing screen finish and color gamet. Screen is plastic – a high end monitor should be glass. A major step down from the UP2715K which had a beautiful glass screen and exceptional backlight that more faithfully reproduced highly saturated colors.

Beware, monitor is not HDR or WCG. Calibration hardware sounds like it is made of cheap plastic and will break quickly. Sometimes the display looses signal and flashes. USB hub shows up as no enumerating in windows (had this problem with the UP2715K as well seems to be a common problem with dell monitors).

The sharpness setting actually puts incorrect colors on your screen (looks like JPG compression) if you turn it above 50%. Screen is somewhat blurry at 50%. I was hoping for a lower resolution version of the UP2715K that would work better with windows and was completely disappointed.

My previous monitor was a 32″ and I was concerned about loosing 5″ of screen real estate. In retrospect it didn’t matter one bit. The Dell UltraSharp 27 4k Premier Color monitor was a very good purchase for our Long Island based boutique organic soap and cosmetic company.

I needed an outstanding monitor to provide color accuracy for our website both in terms of photography and videography needs. This morning offers both the Adobe and sRGB color spectrum and the colors are vivid and accurate.

Dynamic contrast, reproduction and construction are excellent. The mat finish is helpful in reducing glare without impeding color accuracy. Finally Dell’s warrantee is one of the best in this product space.

I got this monitor almost a month ago, and have nothing but great things to say about it. First was assembly. I had my 8 year old read the instructions and put it together. He did great. It was simple and fast.

We popped it onto the desk, and it just worked. The slenderness of the stand may be the first thing you notice. This doesn’t look like a cheap product, it has quite a bit of elegance to it. The size is exactly what we were looking for, and it looks good on the desk with a thin bezel.

It is nice having the extra vertical resolution above a standard 1080p or 1200p monitor. Text looks crisp. The screen has a nice matte quality and handles reflections with ease (aka there are never glaring reflections from my lights behind me.

The laptop it is connected to is almost like a mirror by comparison. ) Another thing I like about the monitor “just working” it it falling asleep and waking up with the computer. Who hasnt had an experience where one device wakes up but not the other, or screens flashing blue randomly.

This monitor has just done exactly what it was supposed to. The buttons are behind the screen on the right side, and very easy to use without needing to peak behind. They have a nice tactile feel, and are far enough apart to discern from each other.

The last thing I really like about this monitor is that it functions as a USB dock. I can plug all my stuff into the monitor, and plug the monitor into my laptop. It even charges my laptop. I would recommend this product to anyone, but especially someone with a USB C laptop.

All in all, it has been perfect.

I’m very satisfied for this monitor for the price I paid. For $180 on sale this is an excellent value. The screen is very, very bright and clear. There is some light bleed and I had to return one due to a small crack on the screen but Office Depot was wonderful about the exchange and I am very happy with this purchase.

The USB C functionality works great up to 65 watts of power. it will charge your laptop, provide keyboard and mouse via the USB ports, and video input. I am currently using it over HDMI as I have a KVM switch with a USB C dock and it is working flawlessly as well.

It has audio out so you can plug speakers into it (not all monitors have this). For the price the screen, ports, and overall quality is very very good!.

Overall this is a quality monitor. It has a nice build/finish to it. The screen bright is great and uniformly bright, and really shines when the resolution is set to 1440p. Perfect monitor for work from home folks.

There are numerous USB inputs that allow me to free up desk space since I now no longer have to use a docking station. Awesome it has USB C support as well. The only negatives I have to say are in regards to the stand, as it feels less polished to me when compared to the monitor.

And connecting the monitor to the stand wasn’t very fun, as I dropped one of the screws into back cavity and it took forever to get it out.

I bought this because I travel a lot and want multiple screens, like I have at home. This idea is outstanding, but it’s lacking in product quality and design. 1. ) I bought this and started assembling it.

One of the clips that holds the monitors together broke. So, I had to purchase new, additional clips to replace the broken clip. 2. ) the magnets hold (mostly), but I ended up putting two magnets in each spot on one of my laptops because the monitors kept slipping off.

That was disappointing. However, I worry that 2 magnets at each spot, might be overkill and also cost damage to the monitors. But they were falling off with just one magnet installed (as suggested by Mobile Pixel.

instructions), so there was that. 3. ) I took this unit on 1 Trip (ONE) (in fact I’m still on the trip). I carried my Mobile Pixel Trio in my carry on. AND THE SCREEN ON ONE OF THE MONITORS BROKE. This means that from my house, rolling my luggage to the car, placing in the car, and then rolling it through the airport and placing it into the overhead was too stressful for the monitor to endure.

WOW. This is supposed to be a mobile professional friendly device. But it’s very very fragile. I contacted Mobile Pixel and asked if they would replace it under warranty but they said no. I do appreciate their rapid response, but darn – this device literally did not last 1 trip and broke already.

I paid over $600 for the TRIO setup and now, I just bought a 2nd replacement monitor. When I think about all the other electronic devices I carry daily that do not break (laptops, phones, smart watches, cameras, etc.

) it’s just disappointing. 4. ) Mobile Pixel did respond almost immediately to my contact email. I really appreciate their rapid response on the weekend. They said they would repair it, at the cost of $145 not including shipping, or a new one for $199.

They also mentioned there is Cracked screen replacement insurance that I could have gotten for $20. 99 but shipping on their options was not included and I’m not sure if it would be overnight. 5. ) I went ahead and ordered a replacement monitor on Amazon instead, because I’m working right now, out of town and want/need the extra monitor to do my job.

(And Amazon can deliver me a new one today/ same day). Overall, I would say the concept and idea is 5 star. The execution of this and the build quality is like 1 star. This device should be much more rugged, considering it’s for travelling professionals.

I do appreciate Mobile Pixel customer service responding to me so quickly though. That was much appreciated, although in the end, there wasn’t much they could do, other than sell me a new one. I will be packing this much more carefully with bubble wrap, and in my backpack instead of my carry on.

I hope that approach works better.

OK Cons first: Sorry guys, I really wanted to love these monitors but I just can’t justify the price point when the triple monitor set up is held together by these flimsy plastic clamps. My whole setup keeps coming apart whenever I extend them.

Usually they fall off the magnets as well. I am not part of your R&D department so I don’t know who tested these and developed the clamping system but there has GOT to be a better way to accomplish this mission.

The whole setup just sags terribly and feels like I am playing a game of “Jenga” the entire time I am working remotely. I keep worrying that someone will bump my table in Starbucks and the whole setup come crashing down off the magnets.

Pros: Excellent build for the monitors itself. Slide covers the monitor for scratch protection. I downloaded the driver software and they hooked up flawlessly. The right angle cables are an awesome thought.

Shipping was laser fast and packaging was “Apple-esc”? (Can I say that?) All in all I was in love with everything but the actual deployment of the product. Sadly at this time I am going to return the monitors and keep shopping for a triple monitor set up that will be secure enough to not fall off my laptop during a normal day of leeching off a Starbucks WiFi signal or a barstool at Applebees.

I may revisit later if the clamping design changes but for now this product is going back. Jim.

I work entirely on the computer. I got the one of the duel trio, and it has literally changed my life. I absolutely love this monitor. I cannot work without it. Its probably the best purchase I have made in a really long time.

When I’m traveling, I easily work at max capacity at the airport, at the hotel, wherever I am, just as if I’m at my desk at home. So many people have come up to me and asked about it in amazement. I have the larger one and its the same size as my computer screen, so its like having two computers at once.

When its time to pack up, I slide it right in and shut my computer. The product is great quality, when I’m home, I leave it connected to my computer at all times and it stays put, not flimsy at all its as if its a part of my laptop.

A few months in I did start to experience some flickering, but I reached out to customer service and without any issue, hesitation or arguing they sent me a replacement at no cost to me, and its perfect as expected.

As slightly frustrated as I was with the flickering issue, I admit the product is so great I cant go back to working without it, I put up with the flickering until my replacement came because I am that dependent on the product now.

The customer support rep that helped me, David, was so great, helpful and kind. He was so responsive too, answered all of my rant filled emails with a kind response within a few hours or less. He was such a great help and I am grateful he was assigned to me.

I am writing this review because David was such a great person to communicate with and I would like him to get the recognition he deserves. Thanks to the Mobile Pixels team, 5 stars for the product, 5 stars for the customer service, much appreciated!.

I bought this with low expectations and it still disappointed. I had previously purchased a different external monitor for about twice the price, so I will be using that as a baseline. Pros: Very cheap.

I was legitimately surprised at how cheap this thing was. Easy to Use. The only thing this really does is plug in and turn on. I didn’t see a power button or anything. it just has a stand that kicks out to one position, but you can place the monitor vertically or horizontally.

Cons: Size: It is a thick, chunky monitor despite it’s portability. It makes it a bit unrealistic to toss in a backpack that’s already got a big laptop in it. Build: This is a small one, as the point of a monitor is just to look at, but it just feels really cheap.

Hard, glossy plastic back, thick bezels, no buttons, it just does not feel good. Display Quality: This was the deal breaker for me. Although it is techincally an HD monitor, the poor viewing angles, uneven backlighting, and bad color balancing, this thing just looks like a 2010 android tablet.

It also comes with a CD to install drivers and see the user manual. Lastly, it appears to have been poorly translated in the instructions. This will work if you desperately need a monitor with a USBA connection, but for me personally I’d rather have no monitor than this monitor.

I received all FOUR of them today. I unpacked one and connected it to my DELL Inspirion 7000 laptop to see how it performed. It does connect with a single USB cable (provided with monitor) and connecting it requires you to right-click on the desktop and change your display settings to detect a second monitor.

GOOD POINTS: – Simple to connect. – Lightweight. – STURDY fold out stand for landscape or portrait viewing. – Comes with soft case (Slide In at End Style with velcro strap) – VESA mount SO-SO POINTS: – No apparent way to independently adjust screen display settings.

AOC USB screen displays brighter that the laptop, and with less contrast. – Laptop screen displays on AOC USB monitor top to bottom, with a sidebar on each side to compensate for the differences in screen widths between the laptop and the AOC USB monitor.

– Screen colors on AOC USB monitor are not as brilliant as the laptop, but it still serves well as a second monitor.

My favorite thing about this monitor is being able to use it in portrait or landscape mode. I bought it to help with homeschooling (making worksheets, grading papers, etc. ) and it’s made things so much easier.

It’s lightweight and since it’s held up with a kickstand you can adjust the tilt. I only have 2 complaints. The first is that the auto-tilt function doesn’t seem to work (I’ve researched online and seen that’s an ongoing problem) even when you have the software downloaded so it has to be done manually within the software.

The second being that I wish the cord was longer. I switch the monitor from the left side of my laptop to the right depending on what I’m using it for and I only have the port it needs on one side of my laptop.

The cord that comes with it has 2 different types of USB (normal and 3. 0) but I’ve only gotten it to work with the 3. 0. Those 2 issues are why I gave it only 4 stars.

I like everything about this monitor. It is thin and light but sturdy thanks to the steel body. The wide folding stand’s magnetic top flap allows you to slide it up and down to adjust the screen angle, while the magnetic bottom flap holds the lower bezel steady.

Opened flat, the stand covers screen, and the whole thing slips into a padded sleeve. This is just right for occasional road trips, but I also use the stand every day in my home office. This is not something that will crash to the floor if bumped, it does have threaded holes for a VESA monitor mount.

The other excellent feature is the one-button control. located on the side, next to the single USB-C socket for video and power. One click wakes the monitor. After that, one click pops up a row of symbols for brightness, contrast, overdrive, blue light suppression and language.

Click to the control you want; wait until it flashes, then an adjustment panel pops up; press and hold the button to adjust. A short wait makes the popups go away. This is so much better than fumbling with tiny controls or having to use some awful app.

Finally, the picture. Sharp 1080p video at 50 or 60 Hz. Good color and contrast. Moderately bright, uniform over the whole screen at a distance of 15 inches,.

The unit itself is extremely lightweight. The image is clear and bright. The holder and case an added bonus, and makes storage safe. In my instance, our computer was older, so we could not make it work.

We only had an HDMI port open. Even with an A to C connector as well as splitters, we could not make it work on the particular laptop we wanted it to work on, as the monitor only has a USB 3. 0 C port.

We also loved the size, same exact size as our laptop. I ended up giving it to my son, who uses it for business and loves it. It is portable and it has great resolution and color. Just double check the ports available on your laptop.

This AOC monitor was a great solution for me. I’m used to using two screens for my accounting system at work, at this allowed me to have a similar setup remotely. I chose this model because it had the same specs as the screen on my laptop (15”, uhd resolution).

It made viewing easier on my eyes looking between the screens. The positives for this is the screen is crisp, light, and I love that it only needs the usb-c cable for data and power. Only negative is the screen brightness could be stronger, but overall this was a great purchase.

I really enjoy using this monitor with my Chromebook Pixelbook. The majority of the time I use it to present to my clients where they are sitting on the opposite side of the table. The mirror function works great and the colors are reproduced faithfully.

I can get through a 3 hour meeting on a single charge. As a day trader, I extensively use this second monitor to watch the stock price movements and pull triggers relying on fast refresh rate. This second display does the trick and i actually prefer to use this monitor as my main display thanks to the 1080P display and ultra fast refresh rate.

On the entertainment side, I find it extremely useful to watch sports team on different monitors, the refresh rate and clearly is superb. Not to mention it’s super lightweight i can easily fit it with my regular laptop in the same case.

Often times i’d forget i am carrying an extra monitor with me. All in all, i highly recommend this monitor to anyone who needs mulitple quality, and compact display to pair up with your laptop. You can’t go wrong with ASUS brand!!.

It’s a solid product for what it is. Perfect for connecting to a laptop with older USB ports. With an older laptop you can’t easily use the cool new toys, so it is great to have this option. But lacks elegance and features.

Using case as display stand is clunky and prone to falling. Only has input port on one side, making left side use clunky (with the cable lopping around). No Kensington lock slot – which is a big drawback for anyone hoping to use this in a public space where you want to prevent grab and dash.

Overall, it’s not what I wanted but it is what I needed (at least until I get a laptop upgrade).

Like most, having to establish an impromptu home office is easier said than done. I’m used to having dual monitors at my work office and don’t utilize them for personal use at home. Having found an immediate need to perform my daily job tasks, I was glad to see the ASUS MB169B+.

The monitor is lightweight, easy to transport, and very compatible with my ASUS laptop. My system (Windows 10) automatically recognized the driver and installed it. This monitor is NOT a touchscreen, which doesn’t bother me one bit.

It is easy to adjust to whatever side you’re comfortable working with (left, right, top, and bottom). About the only (minor) complaint I have is that I need to adjust the monitor’s brightness each time I power it on.

While odd, I’ve become used to doing so in the time I’ve had it, so it’s not a huge deal anymore. The display is crystal clear, and the foldable stand (prop?) it came with is as functional as it is convenient — especially in small spaces.
