This stuff is thicker than typical primer keep that into consideration when applying. Provide yourself with extra square footage so you have enough. I started to run a little short, but maybe because it was so think and I didn’t even it out as much.

It dries quickly so you need to be prepared to work as such. Must do primer before the marine paint. What a. difference. I used this in our new enclosed trailer and man this is durable paint. Doesnt scratch or show marks at all.

i assume it’s the product i ordered but it arrived in a can that bore no label coming anywhere near the appearance of the illustration nor of the previous can of the (presumably) same product i previously purchased elsewhere.

haven’t opened the can yet so i don’t know if the appearance of the content is consistent with my previous experience of “this” product. i do know that the product i previously bought elsewhere which had a label similar, if not identical to, the illustration, performed well and that’s why i ordered another can from Zoro.

This is a high build primer that fills well. If put on thick it will be slow to dry compared to most automotive primers, BUT, this is for both fiberglass and wood which is what I needed for repair, fabrication, and mold work.

The marine primer and topcoat seem to remain somewhat flexible which is needed with fiberglass. I haven’t tried this as a “tie coat” with other products yet. I have used it over 2 types of resin, quality wood, and bondo filler with good sealing and coverage results.

I have not tried it on epoxy yet.

This primer does none of what it claims. You can scratch it off with your nail I tested it on several surfaces once I found out that it did not stick to a sanded tile (nor the unsanded one, as it claims it does) Wasted a lot of money because I only discovered this by accident, after the whole project was done!!! Written to Rust-Oleum SA and will see if there is any feedback.

I used this product to prime kitchen cabinets that had a black plastic type coating. I gave them a light sanding and sprayed on the primer with a Wagner Flexio 590. I thinned the primer 10% with water.

It gave a nice smooth finish. I sprayed a white melamine finish for the top coat. Very pleased with the finished product.

We have trim around our windows and it’s made out of a metal framework which after wear and water on the house will tend to get rust spots in some areas even though it’s painted. I found this product and it’s fantastic.

It’s super thick so it doesn’t go as far as you would expect for the quart size. But the thickness makes sense when you think about what it’s made to do. The primer coated the trim work and filled any holes that were present.

It dried very quickly and we were able to paint over it the same day. I will definitely be buying again.

Love the product! Using it In my renovation of a 1916 home project to prepare trim for the ECOS paint. Covers well – old paint, various spots and stains. Creates a uniformed colored (white) basis. Notable, too, that there’s hardly any smell! What a difference to regular paint!!! (Note: i don’t have odors to be blocked.

I have a professional air quality monitor because I am very sensitive to all kinds of things. I went to a hotel while my spouse painted a floor in our house. The VOCs and formaldehyde were in the danger zone at the hotel, where I had to spend most of the time venting the room with the window open just to get the air in the marginal range.

When I got home after the paint dried, the air quality in the room was fresh! I will never buy toxic paint again.

It goes on thick and has beautiful coverage. One coat and all the ugly kermit the frog green is gone (what was the previous owner thinking, who paints their living room kermit the frog green?) LOVE this primer.

Great product. Great price. Horrible packaging. The first shipment was in a zip lock bag wrapped in paper. All the cans were dented one was leaking badly. Replacements came with no packing at all and all were again dented but none were leaking.

Then I received a small valve and it was packaged like the paint should have been. ??? Anyway. great service as always. I’ll be back.

We have used Fresh Kicks eggshell paint and this primer from Clare so far for our living room. and there has been NO strong odor. I’m extremely sensitive to smells in general and I’m currently pregnant.

I never left the room and was able to help my husband paint. We were even able to stay in the living room post painting because we weren’t bothered. We had some windows cracked for safety and airflow still, but my husband is still in awe of how there was no strong odor and the paint came out beautifully! With a current toddler and dog running around the house, and a baby on the way.

we will be using Clare for a lot more future projects around the house! Thank you!.

After decades of carefully thinning for penetration, careful between-coat sandings, insistence on using only natural bristle brushes, waiting for perfect weather conditions and all the other esoterica that accompanies varnishing with my favorite Dutch varnish products, I was skeptical that this other Dutch coating could do better.

I was wrong. I am completely converted to Allwood MA for all of my exterior varnish requirements. Once the wood is stripped and sanded- the correct starting place for any varnish project- then the magic begins.

The primer penetrates deeply into the wood and is catalyzed by humidity- water vapor- into a strong, flexible substrate instead of a thin, brittle layer per normal thinned varnish. Teak will generally need only 1-2 coats for full penetration; mahogany at least two.

Make sure you mask well, as the stuff runs and spreads like alcohol or water. It takes a good 24 hours for the primer to fully cure. You may see small bubbles on the surface after the cure. This is completely normal, as it is the residue of the primer catalyzing and “boiling off” in the process, particularly where there is checking or a large-ish joint.

Your wood will now look like it’s already finished. It’s not. Do a light 220 sanding to smooth off all the tiny bumps. This will also give you a good hint where you are with your topcoat, as with normal varnishing.

The topcoat goes on like syrup. Don’t worry it in like we do with varnish; use a couple three passes with the brush, and always feather into the wet edge, like normal. Don’t go back. Keep up the pace until you’ve covered the area with its full first top coat.

Wait 45 minutes to an hour, and do it again. And again, and again. You honestly don’t need to sand between coats, but I do a light touch anyway so I can see where I’m going. The literature says you can do up to six coats a day, which I believe, but I usually quit after three, because I’m getting tired of it, and I know I can easily do three more tomorrow.

Don’ts: Use alcohol in prepping -poisons the material Use oxalic acid to bleach the wood -poisons the material Apply under very low humid conditions-will impede dry times i. e. never dry Use good quality brushes -brushes can not be cleaned and will be ‘throw-away’ Use any containers that are solvent sensitive -if in doubt use tall glass or tall metal containers.

wide flat containers will shorten pot life. Don’t “worry” material by continual brush strokes, apply and tip off Do’s: Apply only on stripped bare teak, mahogany etc. Rag on primer, one cannot get even application w a brush of any type.

I used a sock on three fingers over a nitrile glove Tape tightly to teak for prime coat and retape with small border beyond teak for gloss coats, otherwise primer color is visible on gelcoat Yellow primer typical for Teak, red for Mahogany.

Primer really adds contrast and wood grain contrast. Read product datasheets carefully and follow Great: Depth of Image (DOI) is amazing Was able to do six complete coats in two days on hot humid days on the Chesapeake.

Sanding after prime and coat three. Clear gloss is clear! with no hue or tint thus tinted primer gives hue Used foam brushes “not for use for w shellac and lacquer” they swelled after 20 min. and I just tossed it and used another.

Ideally one should use solvent resistant foam brushes. If this product becomes known, the pro varnish ‘gurus’ commanding big money should be very worried. See photo of morning dew on Awlwood after day 1 (three coats) Very tolerant of changing environmental conditions.

Post cure the material is very stretchy so believe that with primer it will really stick to scarf joints and not fail from wood side due to expansion.

This was used on a 17 year old Sabre. Stern, toe rails, decorative strips and helm deck. It made an unbelievable transformation in the appearance and texture of the wood.

As other people have mentioned this is a pretty thin primer/undercoat so don’t expect one coat or even two to smooth out any possible surface imperfections, and try and avoid splashing it everywhere, on the good side it goes on quickly and dries quickly too.

Debatable if the flexibility is always required but I used it as was using a flexible top coat on new wood cladding so I’m hoping it does allow for some movement without cracking up the paint. If your wood is pretty stable I’d probably get something much thicker and probably cheaper too.

Painting kitchen cabinets. In short; buy Zinsser Bin Primer Sealer instead. B-I-N produced an incredible prime base from one coat. Used water based paint on top of it. Sanded and primed. Tried Ronseal’s prime base first and even after waiting and applying multiple coats it was terrible result.

Had to rethink. Found a recommendation for B-I-N in an online forum and it saved the job.

Absolutely brilliant stuff. I’ve an old ROYAL blue garage, needed to be white. Painted one coat and it was covered with only a very faint blue. Second coat totally gone. Goes on really well, and does the job.

Just need to give it a really good stir. For such a small tin, it’s gone a long way.

Really enjoyed working with this before painting. Created a good foundation . Note: It is on the thinner side but I prefer to work with something buildable anyways

Does NOT adhere to interior wood paneling finished surfaces. Paint w/ primer peeled right off one week after job was completed.

This is not the cheapest Primer out there, but it does a great job if you have knots in the wood or other things to cover up or if you’re switching to a new color.

Benny Moore’s Fresh Start primer is the gold standard or primer paint. Ask any professional.

Handy Primer which sticks toost surfaces. Dries fairly quick in the Summer but takes a few hours in the Winter. Remember its water based so for it to dry the water needs to evaporate! Not very opaque if you are overpainting something which was not already coloured white.

Takes about 5 coats to overpaint something coloured. E. g. I put some coloured dots on a ceiling using a purple sharpie ( to mark where the wall studs were for later use hanging shelves) but overpainting those purple dots took about 6/7 coats.

Bought this because Dulux etc is twice the price. Product is oil based so make sure you have white spirit. I was attempting to paint wheathershield over existing paint and a disaster. Had to strip it off and apply a coat of this primer.

Weathershield worked perfectly over this. It has a good thick consistency and spreads evenly. Not quick drying, leave until next day.

This is a very good paint. We’re refurbishing a 35 year old house in need of updating for retirement. This has done a superb job of covering previously painted walls and remains a favourite. We’d recommend it.

Used to create a ‘blank canvas’ before choosing a final colour, we’ve decided it probably is THE final colour, possibly with a wall of ‘accent’ colour.

Went on like silk. Total cover in one coat. Last used some 40 years ago. Just stripped the top coats of with head gun. It left the original primer 100% enact. Result.

Throughly great product and has covered so well. Not only has it covered exceptionally dark wood stain and has allowed better coverage for my undercoat. The final finish after all painting was complete is excellent, this base cover is something I will be using again for sure.

The first order I made wasn’t delivered, presumably lost in transit. After contacting the seller another tin was immediately dispatched. Used on new fascia boards so oil based paint a must. 2 coats covered well prior to undercoating.
