20 Best Exfoliators For Acne Prone Skin (2023 Updated)

This has been the only reliable facial scrub I have been able to find and at such an amazing price. I’ve tried so many different products from high end price tags to monthly delivered products which have not been this successful.

I have very oily skin, but also suffer from eczema with rare, but occasional dry patches on the face. This facial scrub is sensitive enough not to irritate my eczema, yet helps control breakouts which are now far and few in between, or rids them quickly when they do happen.

Directions on the bottle say to use it twice daily however I use it only once as I found using it twice a day caused minor irritation and dryness. I also love the fresh and smooth feeling it gives my face after using it.

Between this one and the Biore charcoal face wash (same line green label instead of orange) it’s a winner for me. I’ve been using them for years now and have found it hard to find anything else that works better, I recommend to anyone who suffers from oily skin and may even have some sort of sensitivity as I have with my eczema.

I bought this with their Charcoal Acne Cleanser and I have to say that it was a great investment. I am someone who suffers with hormonal acne that not even EXPENSIVE products could effectively combat.

After spending tons of money on different cleansers, I decided to try Biore’s Charcoal line and I was definitely impressed. The instructs recommend using it two to three times a week, but you CAN use it daily.

I like to use it twice a day, because it really controls my oil production. It leaves your skin smooth after using it and I have found a significant improvement in not only the clarity of my skin but also the color.

My complexion seems much more even. The ONLY reason I rated it 4/5 is because it can irritate your skin, and I know some people probably would be extremely turned off if their scrub did that. There is some minor redness after using it, and your skin can feel VERY tingly afterwards.

Besides that, I would recommend it. Considering the price in conjunction with the quality of the product, it’s definitely a steal and it’s earned its place as a permanent part of my skincare regimen.

I like the smell of this product. I don’t use it everyday because I don’t want it to dry out my skin. Although it’s a scrub, the grain is very light and it does not cause irritation. The product is very gel like in consistency.

I would recommend this product to somebody prone to blackheads.

Before using this product, I had previously use the pore refining scrub, which for me, worked amazingly, and I highly recommend it. Using it, It didn’t cause me any breakouts, and reduced acne how it was suppose to.

Then, I switched to the Deep Cleansing Scrub. This was a big mistake. After my first day of using the product, I noticed that the consistency of the scrub was a lot thinner than the other, and it had a strange, unpleasant smell to go along with it.

Also, I noticed it seemed to make my face feel hot in temperature. After my first week of using the product daily, I noticed that it seemed that my acne had worsened, and my face was hot to the touch.

I assumed that it was normal, so I continued using the scrub daily. After about 2 weeks of use, my face had a lot more of what I thought was acne, and after doing some research on what was happening I was shocked to realize, no it in fact was not worsened acne, but Hives! My face had broken out in hives, and many of the symptoms I was experiencing where those of hives.

It was itchy, red, and hot to the touch, not to mention very unpleasant! However, my twin brother had much better results, and the product seemed to work for him. I’ve stopped using the product for about week now, and the hives have almost cleared up.

The reason that I rated a 2 star instead of a 1, was because I was satisfied with the results of a previous product from the company, and that it worked well on my brother. Overall, I would most likely not recommend this product to others, and by the off chance that I do, I would warn them to keep and eye on the applied areas, and to stop use immediately if they notice anything strange, or a constant burning sensation after using the product for more than 3 days.

My skincare routine has been a balancing act for years between acne or irritated skin. This and the Burt’s bees acne toner has helped balance my skin quite a bit (late 30’s with cystic hormonal acne).

I am using them regularly. I am able to use mandelic acid 12 % less often and I am using persa-gel 10 % less often as well. I am also taking Dim and evening primrose oil on top of regular women’s daily supplements and it’s all helped me so much.

This wash is also helping my teenage son, who is doing well with this wash and Persia-gel as his daily routine. He’s happy this it’s simple and broke out when we ran out and could only find the Burt’s bees retinol scrub.

It was not as effective for either of us.

I agree with all of the negative reviews of the new formula. The old formula was sooo amazing for my skin and I can’t find anything as good as it. The new formula is thin and sandy, as mentioned by others.

The sandy exfoliation FEELS nice while you’re using it but makes my skin look bad. My skin looked more youthful when I used the old product. The new product also has a blue colored fragrance that is added and separates from the cream.

Every time I open the cap blue dye runs out before the cream. Just bad all around. Not sure why you would change the formula, please go back to the old formula!.

My only experience with Benzoyl Peroxide was with Proactiv as a very young teen. I suffered from severe, inflammed acne and quickly saw great but consequently very stripping results within early use.

I’m 28, I don’t suffer with acne per say but have never had flawless skin (or at least clearish skin). Trying to balance large pores or the occasional pimple has always been a constant battle so I decided to try Benzyl Peroxide again- and I’m so glad I did!!! In between using Retinol and having ‘nights off’, I use this 3 times a week in the evening and have noticed great results.

My skin can handle its acids yet I found slight but not uncomfortable tingling after the first few uses. Stick to it because the sensation subsides a few uses after. Now my skin looks more smoother, even, less red and has definitely put the pimples at bay.

My pores are even smaller, something the 2% BHA hasn’t seemed to do. I recommend starting slow and adding a lot of pore friendly moisture to avoid irritation- you won’t regret it!.

Let me get straight to the point: This stuff WORKS! I never really suffered from acne. Throughout my teens and early 20’s I would get the occasional spot here and there, but as I got into my late 20’s my skin began to break out more frequently, especially close to my period, and this last year my skin was freaking out with tiny spots and bumps all over my jawline.

I’ve spend a ridiculous amount of money on different products, but nothing ever seemed to combat my hormonal acne. Well, not until I tried this! I’ve been using this every 2nd day for roughly 3 months combined with the Azelaic Acid booster (for cleansing I used a 0,5% salicylic acid cleanser from cosxr) and my skin has never looked or felt this good! My hormonal acne seems to have finally cleared and I haven’t had any severe flare ups in a long time.

I obviously still get a few break outs near the end of the month, but they’re much less severe, way more manageable and clear within a couple of days. Word of advice though, DO NOT use this twice a day even if it says you can.

While this is definitely good for sensitive skin as it’s very gentle on the skin, it’s still an exfoliant and you should be really careful not to over-exfoliate your skin. If you’re like me and have never used a BHA exfoliant like this, I definitely suggest to start slow.

Your skin needs to get used to chemical exfoliant, so be patient and slowly build up your tolerance to this problem so it won’t cause more problems than it solves. This exfoliant can cause skin purging.

It happened to me but this is perfectly normal and lasted about 4 weeks. It just means the product is working as it should! I used it once a week for two weeks, then twice for two weeks until I was comfortable enough to use it every second day.

Your skin will absolutely thank you for it!.

I’m here to purchase the full size after buying the travel size to try out. I was desperate. I’ve used a complete skincare routine for years and my skin was in great shape. Clear and smooth. Then, menopause hit.

I started on a HRT regime. My skin went crazy. It was as if I was 14 again and not in a good way. The acne was all over, especially on my cheeks and on the cheek I slept on the most. No matter what I tried, removing one product, adding another, nothing helped.

This is good for the price. I have KP on my arms and was hoping to find a cost effective alternative to my current products but this doesnt really smooth my kp on my arms even with my usual moisturizer.

It has a nice lather but i wish it had more of a chemical exfoliant than just focusing on the physical exfoliant. I will say though the physical exfoliant aspect of the body wash is nice and gentle enough that it doesnt irritate my skin.

Doesnt 100% correct my KP but it improves the appearance more than the texture of my arms so if you just care for the appearance of smoother arms then go for it. Also great to use on your legs to help prevent ingrown hairs if thats an issue you have.

I have suffered with body acne and facial acne my whole life, I get cysts and nodules, which in my opinion is the worst kind of acne that leaves scarring. I have tried everything over the counter to going to the doctor.

What I have learned is bar soap carries bacteria which is the last thing you want to put on your skin. So I first use a very mild liquid soap and then I use Albe face and body scrub and let me tell you my results are amazing.

This is really an amazing product. I picked it up just to try it out and it became a favorite. It clears up my skin and decreases the intensity of blackheads (I haven’t found any product can completely remove them).

It also dries out some of the zits that pop up here and there in stressful times. There are many comments saying that it dries out the face. I thought it was common knowledge that you need to use a moisturizer after using exfoliants (especially ones with BHA).

It does dry out the face, but after I use a moisturizer, my face feels great. The only issue I see with the product is that it has menthol, which gives that refreshing feeling, but can irritate the skin.

Other than that, it is an amazing product for the price point.

I was recommended this product by your friend because she uses it twice a week to help with the acne on her face. However, when I started using this product the first time I put it on my skin it felt very cool and had a slight burning sensation.

At first I thought it was normal but after using it the second time it Almost ruined my skin! The chemicals in this are pretty harsh and not made at all for sensitive skin. This may be good for someone that has rather normal texture skin but don’t recommend it at all for anyone with sensitive or low elasticities in your skin.

It works. Sadly I don’t have a before and after. Use a sunscreen because it can make you sensitive to UVA/UVB. It could do without the fragrance, wax, sorbitol, menthol, and disodium edta in my opinion.

It’s slightly a physical exfoliant too because of the little beads, but this can be problematic if you’re avoiding physicals because they can spread bacteria from an active breakout. It might not be abrasive enough to do that.

I do like that this product has an active ingredient that chemically exfoliates quickly so I don’t have to wait on an at home peel. I like to steam my face before using because that’s the best way to harness the power of salicylic.

This scrub is good to use for acne maybe 2 times a week. Anymore than that, it makes my face dry and irritated. Overall it does an okay job. I have been using it for over a year on and off in between other face washes and it doesn’t really do much for my acne.

The ingredients in it look a bit sus. Salicylic acid is great for acne, however whatever else is in this product may not be so great. It also has a weird over powering smell. If you are looking for a back up acne scrub this is okay but for long term use, it may not do too much for your face.

It’s not the worst out there but I would probably recommend something else.

My skin cleared up within a week of using this face wash. I have very sensitive skin and can usually ONLY use products with no perfume or fragrance or harsh chemicals and this product does have salicylic acid and a slight fragrance and does not bother my skin.

So glad I came across this face wash. Have already purchased my 3rd bottle. Also I sometimes use the face wash as my mask and I allow the product to sit on my face for about 15 to 30 minutes and then I rinse it off.

I’ve been using this face wash for about 15 years and there is truly nothing else like it! I had the absolute WORST acne as a teen and tried everything imaginable to clear it. Every other face wash- prescribed or over the counter, either dried my skin out or made my acne worse.

I somehow stumbled across this one and found it was not only the only face wash to clear my acne, but it was the only one that helped me maintain clear skin. I have no idea what it is about it but no matter how many times I try to switch things up (just to try other things on the market), I always end up coming back to this one.

So thick. It should be names as daily scrub. Not at all beneficial to my oily skin. Felt too harsh too skin due to its big scrubber. Face scrubber must be gentle. Also it feel like cream. While washing with water there is also some part left on my face like near nose near eyes which doesn’t wash off with splash of water.

You need to scrub and wash and rub again with fingers to completey get rid off. I love this brand but this product is my least favourite.

I keep this in my shower so I can wash my face during my shower. I like to keep it on a little longer then I would a face wash because it has a nice tingle. It exfoliates, but is not harsh on my face.

It doesn’t dry out my face either. I use it daily and it takes off 99% of my make up. I use a toner as well and there is sometimes a little make up still on my face, but it could be because I missed a spot, and not the product.

I saw this in an article about the top 50 products to buy on Amazon for under $10. It was a great deal and I have not been disappointed. Recommend.

For a cheap drug store brand (cheap compared to my new addiction Tatcha Deep Cleanse) this worked well, I used this off and on for about 5 years when I was in my late 20s into early 30s and it seemed to keep my oily face happy.

I’m not sure what kept me coming back for more, knowing it worked or just being lazy and not wanting to experiment with other brands in fear others would make me break out or have access oil. I was still pretty oily compared to how I am now with my new cleanser, but always remembered feeling clean! Overall, I loved this for years!.

I love this face scrub. I would use it everyday if I could but I have very sensitive skin. This product doesn’t burn my skin or anything like other face scrubs, but depending on how much pressure you apply when scrubbing, for me it will leave my face red for about 10-15 minutes afterwards.

It leaves my face feeling very smooth. As a guy, I was a little hesitant to purchase it because of the apricot scent. But once I recieved the product, the scent wasn’t too strong and once you wash it off, you can no longer smell it.

I use this scrub about 3 times a week. But for times when I break out really bad with acne, I will use it more often and it really does help. I wouldn’t recommend however using it everyday, from my experience, it can irritate my skin and dry it out after repeatedly using it day after day.

I used this for many years. When I went to the dermatologist to see what I could do about the ice pick scars on my face she asked how I care for my skin. I’m not going to lie and say I never pick but I’m actually pretty good about it based on others I know who I think are insane with the way that they pick at their skin.

When I told her I used a face scrub she stopped me before I could say which and she guessed this one. She told me to immediately stop using it and to get ready to have these deep scars forever. She said she obviously can’t attribute all of my scarring to this scrub but she says it definitely didn’t help whatever issue I had that caused the scarring.

My skin has always been only a little sensitive but also very dry. For whatever reason that combined with my cystic acne caused scarring and she thinks that using this scrub didn’t allow my face to heal properly.

It’s just too tough for skin on your face and I do have to agree to that, sometimes I took a break from this as I felt that too. I always went back to I thought because everyone always raved about it clearing their acne and I was desperate.

Now, I’m not saying this scrub will do this to everyone or that it’s even bad, it was just very bad for me and my skin. I just wanted to say it’s not great for everyone, consult with your dermatologist if it doesn’t seem to be helping to be sure you’re not doing permanent damage.

I’ve been using scarring products along with an at home micro-dermabrasion tool and I am seeing a little improvement so hopefully all is not lost but just listen to your skin.

Scrub for me is not a very consumable care product, but if I liked the packaging and the structure came up, I can buy it and the product will last for a long time. The product perfectly removes dead cells, exfoliates and deeply cleanses pores.

After application, I noticed that the blackheads became less noticeable. And the most important thing for me is that the product does not cause irritation, the skin after application becomes smooth and tender like a baby’s.

Try and tell people abouts this product so they can experience euphoria that i felt and feel everytime i use it. Just be careful not use to much of it at one time because they have microbeads in them and be careful not to harshly wash your face also with this product.

I had 0 acne until I turned 19 and then it got horrible, it was severe all through my 20s until I decided to really get serious about curing it. This face was is the best thing ever! It has completely eliminated my acne, and it brightens my skin beautifully.

My acne scars are also gone (I also use 23% vit c serum and retinol) but no doubt this scrub is invaluable and has worked wonders for me! It has also cured my sisters acne, and every single person I’ve recommended it to.

This stuff works! Highly recommend washing your face in the shower, scrubbing from your hairline to your collarbone, and cleansing for at least 2 minutes. I personally spend 3-5 minutes cleansing my face and neck every day.

I only use this once a day, and just a warm water or cetaphil cleanse for my second wash. Coconut oil to remove make up. This has kept my skin acne free for over a year now. Good luck yall!.

In general it is a great working product. Just maybe we could make it with other fruits? But I totally recommend this product, well any of Neutrogena products are a sure to please and work for what it’s attended purpose was.

Clean and clear has been my favorite brand for facial cleansers for years. I had never tried this specific product so I was glad I got to try it for free. I can definitely say I will buy this one again.

Acne is not something I have to deal with all year but I do have bad breakouts during the summer due to the heat and sweat. I’ve been using this product for a week and I love it. The smell is very pleasant but mild at the same time.

I don’t mind scented products at all but it’s definitely a plus for people who do. The microbreads exfoliate the skin very well and give that clean and fresh feeling after use. Most importantly, it doesn’t make my skin dry which is also very important to me since I have a sensitive skin.

I recently had at the opportunity to try the Clean and Clear Acne Triple Clear Exfoliating Scrub, in combination with the rest of this care line and I was so happy with the results. This scrub feels amazing on your skin and smells amazing! After only one use I could tell my pores were cleaner! I waited about two weeks before writing this review to see if I could actually notice a difference in my acne and I’m happy to report I do think this line up worked wonderfully! I would suggest using this scrub in combination with the other cleansers, toner and moisturizers in the line to receive the best results.

I have had face acne for awhile. I’m not sure how much of my acne’s stubbornness was due to external factors (stress, poor sleep) but I do know since I’ve tried this out coupled with their Keep Your Cool gel mask my skin has looked it’s best in years.

I’ve tried everything on the pay range, oil based to no oil, harsh chemicals to all natural. I found proactive did the most good up until this but it’s expensive compared to this which works just as well for me.

I love the exfoliating scrub, it actually feels like it’s cleaning. I’d recommend using a moisturizer or lotion afterwards (I use Neutrogena oil-free moisture sensitive skin) but all and all I’ve had consistently clearer, healthier, break-out free skin since I’ve started using this product.

Plan to buy again!.

I feel the same as the last reviewer “TC” on 02/02/22. Seemed like great ingredients but, once I used it, I felt how LARGE the grains were. ****This actually CUT MY FACE*** and, no, I wasn’t scrubbing too hard.

No matter how big or small the grains are, I’m aware you have to scrub gently w/anything. I wanted to give it a real shot so the 2nd time I used it I went even more gently, like barely even touching my face, and it cut my face AGAIN.

Obviously I returned this, and I told the Ulta staff about it. I plan on calling Ulta & the brand’s customer service about it too. I really hope they remove this from the market. this should not be sold anywhere!!! I’ve never ever used a scrub that has pieces this large!! It is so dangerous for the skin.

i have really bad acne bc my bodys changing (yk hormones) i found this and it saved my face i no longer have pain full acne. i also use the fade spot treatment also the So Totally Clear pore cleanser i use this as a toner and i love it.

i also use the acne scrub for my face 1-2 times a week and aveeno moisturizer. i also use The Ordinary Niacinamide these products are amazing i love Formula 10. 0. 6 definitely recommend if you have acne.

I’ve got to agree with all the other reviews. Definitely would not recommend this product! Personally, when I applied it to my face it began to burn really bad. Despite the burning, I thought I’d give it a go a couple of times to see if I could adjust to it, and I just couldn’t.

Yes, it makes your skin really soft, and clear. But is it worth it? I don’t think so. If anything I started breaking out even more, and the burning really irritated my skin to the point it was constantly red.

I definitely would advise people to look for a different product.

I think Clean + Clear is overall a good product. It’s very inexpensive which is always a plus. But I don’t necessarily notice a difference in the life of a breakout when I use this versus when I’m away from home and I don’t have it on hand.

I do appreciate the nice fragrance as well as the bigger beads so it doesn’t feel too aggressive. However, I’m now seeing a licensed dermatologist who believes this may be contributing to my extreme dryness (courtesy of the salicylic acid).

Keep in mind that despite the feel and texture of the actual cream cleanser that it may be drying for sensitive skin and you may need something extremely moisturizing to counteract that. Thanks for being such an affordable cleanser despite that!.

Occasionally, my face will start getting a minor breakout between my eyebrows and at small places on my forehead. In the past, I hadn’t done too much to deal with these breakouts because they weren’t too major.

Eventually, though, I decided I needed to get some sort of cleanser to deal with these and potentially prevent new ones. A friend had recommended Clean Clear to me, so I finally decided to try it out.

When you scrub it on your skin it isn’t as harsh as you would expect, being gel with beads in it, and it washes off very easily. I used it for 3 days in a row, and was able to see a difference in the size of the breakouts, something I welcomed as time went on.

If you have oily skin and/or you’re prone to breakouts, this is definitely the product for you.

This is the Peter Thomas Roth acne face and body scrub, retails for $28. 00. I was disappointed by the formula when I broke down the ingredients. Dealing with pesky skin is bad enough, we don’t need to dry it out too!! There are jojoba beads in a gel to help with gentle exfoliating, some salicylic acid.

Here are the problems, there is cinnamon bark extract which can be irritating. Fragrance and fragranced ingredients and a big no no is sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate which is quite drying and known to irritate.

It will leave your skin feeling dry and tight when you wash it off. This can increase oil production and more acne, no thanks! I returned this, better options out there. Especially if you have sensitive skin.

This is my holy grail when it comes to treating and preventing acne. I actually leave it on my face for several minutes and then wash it off. It. Could be a bit drying so it’s important to use a good moisturizer after.

I can not praise this product enough. I have struggled with acne and honestly haven’t been able to find a product (other than birth control) that clears up my outbreak effectively until now. After using for just 3 days, I seen a huge difference in her skin. Her acne was going away, and her skin look so much clearer. It really works great to dry the acne up, and hydrate her skin at the same time.

This cleanser really exfoliates skin and remove excess dirt. This product does the job wonderfully. Since my daughter has been using it, no breakouts! Overall, it has definitely improved the appearance and texture of her skin.

I am going to keep this in the bathroom for future acne breakouts!.

I have been using Plum Green tea facewash for more than 3 months now. I have a combination skin type which also becomes dry in winters. Overall the product is quite Good. I have used a few facewash before but all of them caused my skin either to be oily causing pimples or too dry; but this one controls excess oil, pimples and acne.

I do not have a strict skin cleansing routine, but after using it for these months I found positive results and also a more glowing skin. Although it caused my skin to be a bit dry especially in winters, but I felt it works great in summer and monsoon seasons.

Moreover, the gel consistency is good which is not very runny and the lather is great too although I am not a fan of beads. Also, the smell doesn’t bother me. Thank You!.

I LOVE this product! I have gone through so many trying to find one similar, and NONE come close! Has the PERFECT amount of little gritty scrubbies for deep clean feeling. Could dry out your skin if used too often or you don’t naturally have oily skin, or without a moisturizer.

The only downside I can say is that Clinique products are only sold at select stores, and a little on the expensive side. But after using it, It’s worth the $. Everyone has certain things they love and can’t be substituted, this is one of those items for me.

I have BAD breakouts more as an adult than ALL of my teen years combined, I think due to hormone levels. if you’re wanting a good facial scrub with the nitty-grittys like soft sandpaper ;). it gently removes that layer of yuck you don’t want and leaves your skin soft, smooth, and CLEAN.

This product was reformulated so long ago and I wanted to give it a chance as I loved the previous version. After a year of using the new version, it completely is a disappointment as the exfoliating bits don’t exfoliate and the minty fresh wake-up feeling is gone.

It has a light chemical smell. Product is no longer invigorating and have now found an alternative which is much expensive but not by choice. I hope you take everyone’s review into consideration as the new formulation is definitely a FAIL in my opinion.

There are so many holy grail products that are reformulated and I think a lot of beauty companies should ask consumers what they want and think! Maybe keep old version and have the reformulated version.

I have been using Clinique’s exfoliating scrub for over 20 years. The formula has changed a little, but not drastically. Because of the price I tried to find something else out there for less that did the same.

I never found it. I soon came back to Clinique’s scrub because it works the best. I have always has more oily skin so exfoliating has always been important. This does the job. It is more intense, so if you have delicate or sensitive skin, this may not be the solution for you.

Or you could maybe just use it once in awhile. I feel the need to use it about every other day. I don’t think they add any coloring to it or any fragrance. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean.

And you don’t need a lot so a tube does last awhile.

This is my favorite budget exfoliator. It is gentle, but effective. This has glycolic acid salicylic acid. Glycolic acid is a chemical exfoliants that is anti-aging. Salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant that clears up helps prevent blackheads.

I use this in the shower and leave it on for a few minutes as a scrub + mask. That way I get maximum benefit from the glycolic acid. This is a great scrub for all skin types. For real acne sufferers I would suggest using a mask with benzoyl peroxide.

Physical chemical exfoliants can agravate acne and cause inflammation. If you suffer from acne, then make sure you take a good daily probiotic. Wash your pillow cases often. Focus on products that are anti-inflammatory and have natural antiseptic/anti-bacterial properties.

Less is more. I hope this helps some people suffering with acne:).

49 and finally found the one product to clear my acne. Since my mid 20’s I have had an always present 5 to 10 pimples a month. I have tried everything from high end department store brands, visiting a dermatologist and being on prescriptions to drug store brands.

This is the only thing that has kept my skin clear for the last 2 years. When I don’t use for a couple a days I get a pimple. I have fair complexion, combo and sensitive skin. I tend to get stubborn acne that doesn’t like to come to a head.

This stuff is amazing. Don’t stop making it.

I use this daily in my morning shower. I do like that a small amount of this product goes a long way leaving your skin feeling clean with a cooling effect. It does have exfoliating beads but I don’t think their are enough because they don’t make an pact on feeling really scrubbed and sloughed, it feels like a normal face wash not an exfoliant.

I will continue using it and would recommend it due to the fresh and cooling feeling bit will use another product every other day that is more exfoliating.
