20 Best Essential Oils For Bug Repellent (2023 Updated)

This item came at such a good time! I always get an increased number of bug bites during the warmer months. Upon using this product, I immediately noticed and appreciated the scent! I’ve used other bug sprays with a strong “bug spray” smell and this product had a more pleasant scent in my opinion! The only concern I have about this product is the oily/greasy feeling.

I sprayed it and rubbed it in hoping that the feeling would go away but it just left my hands oily. The feeling goes away after some time, I would just use less of product next time I apply it. Overall it was a good product and I love that its good and all natural and safe for pets and kids! I would recommend this product!.

The item couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve had an increase in outdoor time, open country that comes with mosquitos. After the first night, I made sure to pack this in my purse since I was attracting to many bugs.

The size of the bottle made it perfect for travel. I shared with an adult family member and our childrem. We both happened to notice the same things: effectiveness and the smell. We both enjoyed our evening outdoors with out having to swat at bugs, there was a SIGNIFICANT decrease in bites from the previous night, and the smell wasn’t lingering.

For being a bug spray, we didn’t have the “bug spray” smell. Highly recommend!!.

I love the smell of this product and I love the fact that this product is all natural and safe for pets and kids. However, I have worn this a few times and it seems a bit greasy/oily to me. I rub it in but still find it to be very oily.

I used this once on a hike and dirt and insects actually stuck to me because of the product. I am not sure if i’m using too much but it takes a long time to dry and is oily for at least 30 minutes after application.

For this reason, I am not sure I’d recommend this product. If you don’t mind the oily feeling on your skin this is for you! I do love the smell and the natural aspects of it and will definitely keep trying to use this product.

I live in a swampy region so we are tormented with MANY mosquitos. So much so that usually only DEET works. When using this product on a short walks with my dog, I did not get bitten by mosquitos (although I did get a tick on my leg).

I realize this product only works to repel mosquitos. I enlisted a friend who often gets bitten by mosquitos to help try the product and they reported a couple bites after a run. Based on the little experiment, this product does seem to work to some degree and Iike the ingredients are natural and won’t harm my dog who loves to lick my legs as much as DEET repellent would.

I would be hesitant to rely on this product when in heavy mosquito-ridden areas for hours though. The scent of the product is not as overwhelming as other repellants containing citronella which is nice.

The product is a cloth that initially feels dry but is actually very oily–great for keeping the product on your body. It leaves behind an oily sheen as to be expected and is not as unpleaseant as other bug repellants.

My biggest complaint in the application is I feel I’m wasting product when the towelette still seems to have lots of product on it and I’ve already finished applying it to my arms and legs. I wish this were instead a spray or lotion type bottle.

Otherwise, I think this product is convenient and great for non-heavy duty use.

Idk what’s in this stuff…. well, I do because it’s on the can, but it WORKS!!! I have tried many things to get rid of flies in our home, but few have actually worked! This was our last resort before bombing the house (I didn’t want to use such harsh chemicals if I could help it!!) and it actually worked! I was skeptical because all natural products don’t usually work as well, but this one did better than anything we have tried! And it smells AMAZING!!! No chemical smell and it actually drops flies mid air, acts like a sticky barrier and actually kills them within only a few seconds!! Being made of essential oils, I’m not worried about using it on my walls/around furniture and it wipes clean away, no residue! We bought 3 cans of it at first last fall and it did the job and just ran out a few weeks ago, so these cans last awhile! I came back to order more because it’s the only thing that has worked! Being spring time and having kids who leave the doors wide open, we are constantly having a big problem, when flies want to come in with animal in the house.

It’s annoying, but that’s like with kids and animals! I found that if you spray above them, not actually on them, the most falls down and is what actually helps better to get them down better! Spraying common areas also helps deter them as well.

This works extremely well for everyday bugs, ants and American cockroaches. The German type you need to call an exterminator because they are hard to kill. The smell of this product is amazing compared to standard household bug sprays.

I spray at doorways, under sinks and along baseboards. Bugs are dead. Kid and pet friendly. I will keep this in my arsenal forever.

This is only 5% essential oils. 95% is SLS. Just because these are essential oils – different from flavorings – can be synthetics, can be stronger or not as pure as food grade etc — and smells can cause respiratory irritation or skin whether natural or not.

If it kills cockroaches – I wouldn’t trust it around my pets of any kind unless the vet says so. These are the ingredients – 0. 950% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, 0. 364% Cinnamon Oil, 0. 213% Geraniol, 0. 142% Castor Oil, 0.

069% Cornmint Oil, and 0. 069% Clove Oil. And to those who say it doesn’t work immediately -I have used some of the strongest chemicals and roaches don’t die fast – it can take 10 minutes or more. I have seen them still kicking 15 minutes later but they will die.

Course any you see -you can always step on them though I’m always afraid they will run up my leg. Keep in mind, with the exception of IGRs, and boric acid dusts and boric acid baits not much of anything kills German cockroaches – they have become immune and resistance to almost everything.

Boric acid acts as a stomach poison and they will carry it back to the nest where the others help groom it off and then they have it in their system. As each dies, the others eat them and get more of the poison.

With the baits the initial one eats it and brings it back to feed the queen and young. all will die but it’s a 2 week deal. They basically have to starve together. This is why it is good to use IGRs (growth regulators – makes them sterile) so they don’t grow up to breed.

Again. no more roaches but it takes time. If you use repellents or something that kills only the one in contact or sends them elsewhere — you will never get rid of them. Boric acid baits, dust and growth regulators are the way to go and you have to stay on it until they are gone.

If you live in high risk areas – you will have to make baiting a routine every few months. Sorry. And remember. boric acid won’t kill humans or any mammal but it could certainly make them sick if consumed too much or if sensitive to inactive ingredients.

Natural may be better than the chemicals out there. but they can still be an issue.

I purchased a can of Ortho Home Defense Flying Bug Killer at a local Ace Hardware this afternoon. Our house has become inundated with tiny fruit flies. Spraying the area and surfaces near where they are flying seems to keep them away for a few minutes but they return.

I’ve tried spraying the little buggers when they land. It does seem to stop them in their tracks but after a few moments they simply fly off again. The label says the stuff is harmless to children and pets.

it appears that it is also harmless to fruit flies. While I hate the smell of it it looks like I gotta go back to Ace and buy a can of Raid.

This is a great smelling product that also helps repel mosquitoes. I am quite sensitive to smells and have been turned off by many “natural” mosquito repellents to the point that I cannot stand citronella candles.

They give me a headache. But this natural oil product smells so good I would use it even if it didn’t help repel mosquitoes. But guess what?? It actually helps keep them away from you! I highly recommend this.

We live in the country, bugs are a part of our every day. And mosquitoes are wretched. My kids have huge reactions to their bites and swell up like crazy. So, protection from them is pretty huge for us.

Especially an effective NATURAL protection. This stuff works great to keep them away, it also helps to make the bites less bothersome after the fact too. *it even helped take the sting out of my first bee sting in like 20 years.

Haha. The scent isn’t bad, not what I’d pick for say a perfume- but also not irritatingly *bug repellent* scented either. It is effective with out being so blaringly in your face that it is a bug repellent.

I needed this for a day at the lake. It kept the bugs at bay and I didn’t end up with annoying bites. The plus side is it does not have a terrible odor like so many of the products which contain chemicals I don’t want to put on my skin.

I did reapply this several times.

I purchased a bottle early into summer and waited to review until I could provide clear feedback after frequent usage. I can tell you this actually works very well in repelling mosquitos and flies. Both we have a serious problem with in my area in the hot months.

I wanted an all natural product and tried a few. This was the best of them. Bonus with this one is it smells wonderful. I ended up sending a bottle as a gift too. Highly recommend if you want something all natural.

The best bug spray I have ever used and people think it’s perfume. I had it on in the grocery store and people kept asking what I was wearing. I did not want to tell them it was bug spray. LOL It smells that good!! Lovely and will purchase again and again!!.

Based on reviews, I was convinced this blend would deter mosquitos and other insects that were bothering me. I have two diffusers in a small room, one bedside and by the window and the other on the other end of the room at my desk.

Didn’t do a single thing. Mosquitoes were drawn to the diffusers with the oil freshly added. I continued to get just as many mosquito bites while I was right next to the diffusers. And the aroma is indeed energizing, plus made me sneeze.

I was a little concerned that this would smell too much like citronella for me, but I was surprised! The scent is subtle, but pleasant and it works well for spending time outdoors in the south in the summer.

I purchased Nature Shield (the organic version) because the oils in the blend should work against not only mosquitoes, but also gnats, flies, ants, ticks, bees, and spiders. So far I’ve only used it against ants.

There’s a place in my house that always sees ants coming in, but not since I’ve been putting a drip of nature shield on a paper towel in that area. Highly recommend.

Eco Smart is the best pest control product for the yard that I’ve ever used!! I normally use the spray for fleas as well but it wasn’t available and I combine it with the granules for superior results.

We have a cabin up north that is so remote they don’t spray for bugs. In the summer you can be carried away from the mosquitoes or chased inside from the black biting flies, horse lies and deer flies.

We have tried everything. This product is also a repellent. When we use this product we can sit on our deck day and night and enjoy the outside again. Nothing else works as well.

when dealing with an infestation of insects of any kind, it truly wears on one’s sanity. I dealt with spiders & fleas. Your product combined with D. E. rid my home of fleas. This is the 1st time in more than 30+ years there’s not been a flea problem here.

Not as much as I should, but it’s so breezy here, often. I have found myself wearing it more than the shrubbery. At least I know after being dosed, insect life find me non appealing. Kudo’s for me! I like it, though, when I can get it on the ground.

Love the ease and effectiveness of the flea and tick yard and garden spray. It hooks up easily to hose,smells and works great. My dogs love to lay in the grass. and occasionally will eat it when they have stomach issues.

I just can’t see using anything that is toxic knowing this. Have recommended it to friends and family. I also use the Home and Garden Insect Control for ants both inside and outside the home. Again, safe, smells great and works without dangerous pesticides on home surfaces and garden.

When I visited my little place in SC and sat on the front porch, my ankles were ate up with fleas within seconds. I quickly grabbed the hose, attached the Wondercide dispenser and sprayed the entire front porch – over, under and around.

When I went back to check it out 2 hours later, there was not even one flea. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to work that well! I have 5 dogs and we’ve had quite a flea problem this year (we’ve used Advantage, Advantix and Frontline, all with no success), so I’ve also been putting a few tablespoons in the mop water and using it to mop all the floors.

It doesn’t work as dramatically as it did outside because the dogs keep picking up more fleas on our walks, and the fleas lay eggs and on and on, but slowly we’ve had much fewer and the place smells great! It’s also gentle and safe enough to mix with water and spray the carpets and furniture even.

Renew is such a beautiful, rich scent. I’ve been putting it in multiple diffusers and letting it go all day. I get so many compliments from family members when they enter the house. Please don’t ever discontinue this fragrance.

I really enjoyed the essential oil by paddywax, it is a really nice invigorating smell and when it is diffused in my home it smells clean and fresh. It is a good quality oil and I will continue to use this product for its quality and wonderful scent.

At this time being shut in I want to make my house smell great. This is a great essential oil. It really has the Eucalyptus smell if you like that fragrance. I have enjoyed using it a lot.

What I can say is that, this pack is great! You can try them out first, before purchasing the bigger bottles. I love sweet orange and lemon. They are very good pick me ups! Tea tree smells clean and antiseptic which I like.

Lavender smells great when I diffuse it. Last is Peppermint, it’s really refreshing! I’ll definitely be buying larger bottles. Always read or Google on the benefits and dangers of essential oils for safety purposes.

The Japanese Peppermint Oil from Piping Rock was purchased during one of PR’s great sales – I purchased it mainly to try it for myself and its certainly very pepperminty! I have no idea if its good quality or not, but I’m happy with all the essential and fragrance oils from Piping Rock.

I just like the freshness of mint and use it with a carrier oil such as almond oil. Having a new puppy I have used just two drops of Japanese Peppermint oil to a gallon of hot soapy water used to clean up his kennel the floor and it helps remove that doggie smell.

Usually buy peppermint oil locally but been out of stock for ages. Gave these a go and really pleased with them. I use this oil to keep the spiders at bay !!! The bottles are a good size. I transfer the oil into spray bottle and spray around doors and windows.

I also tried the oil in a diffuser. This worked really well in my hall and porch. Very good price and fast delivery.
