20 Best Epoxy Resin For Silicone Molds (2023 Updated)

I tried my first project using epoxy resin about a year ago and I have been hooked ever since. Since then in an effort to save money and get the best possible price that I can I have used a number of different brands.

I have been fairly pleased with most of them and none of them have been bad but without a doubt Gencrafts Epoxy Resin has become on of my favorites because it performs beautifully and the price is always reasonable and fair.

I make a lot of jewelry and it always dries crystal clear without turning yellow or hazy. I will definitely keep purchasing this product for my epoxy needs and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who needs an affordable high performance epoxy resin for their projects.

Mixes well using equal parts of each bottle. Slow enough cure that you have time to pour it properly but cures fast enough to use the mold within hours. As with any 2 part reactive mixture, It’s a really good idea to have everything ready for filling before you mix the solutions.

Also, if you can, always have an extra mold project ready to go in case you end up with leftover liquid rubber. This stuff is not cheap so you don’t want to waste it. If a mold is underfilled, you can add new silicone into the underfilled mold.

In my experience it has no problem sticking to itself without a seam or a weak spot. I’ve only tried this by mixing the newer batch within 30 minutes but I don’t know if it would work after a longer cure time.

This is some awesome, fast-curing, easy-to-mix, silicone mold-making material. I didn’t know much about Mold-Making a couple of years ago but this company (Alumilite) and their products educated me on what’s possible to make.

Pretty much whatever you have in your head you can make with their materials. This product is no different. One part molds, two-part molds? No problem! This stuff has your back.

This is the best silicone mold product I’ve found so far. It cures very quickly, doesn’t make a liquid mess like some others, doesn’t react poorly to 3D printer plastic, and is excellent at picking up fine details from the reference shape.

I’ve only been using it for a few months now, but the molds have also maintained their durability exceedingly well in that timeframe. If you’re looking for a high quality mold maker, I highly recommend this product.

After reviewing many products for deep resin casting I decided to try this one. I was very happy with the results. I received many compliments on the board. If you follow the directions it works perfectly.

I let it cure 3 days in the HDPE mold I created. It came out great. Learning to polish the resin to a high gloss was challenging but in all the product worked great,.

These molds are absolutely amazing! They come packaged in a cute little box that keeps them safe from getting squished during shipping. The molds are the absolute perfect size for making paper weights and things you can set on your desk but, but they aren’t over sized and impractical for pouring resin like a few molds I’ve ordered online in the past.

My pieces came out beautifully and I only had to sand one of them a little and that was the circle mold, but it isn’t a big deal honestly because it was barely noticeable and every round mold I’ve ever had has done the same thing.

It only took a few minutes of light sanding and I had it perfectly round and smooth. This set also comes with 2 measuring cups with measurements on them which comes in so handy if you’re doing a project where you need to figure out the volume of resin you’re using and for making sure your part a and b are exact.

The cups also have a little pouring spout that made it so easy to pour without the resin dripping all over down the side of the cups. I thought it was cool that they included stir sticks and a little pamphlet of directions and tips for working with resin.

They really covered everything you need to make these molds other than the resin. I took pictures while I was making them, but for some reason they didn’t save to my phone so I’ll add some the next time I use them.

I would recommend this kit to anyone because I absolutely love it and everything was super high quality and thick and not like those cheap molds that come from China that a lot of sellers resell. I actually might buy a second kit just so I can do 2 of each at once!!.

This product was what I was waiting for the most!!! However, having just had chemo and surgery a week or so prior, I only molded one, the smaller of the pyramid type mold. I woke up the next day, waited all day, went to unmold it.

stuck. Hmm. went to these other molds I purchased at the same time, I went to unmold the leftover resin I had. they came right out. Hmm. I also made a crystal pendant from these mold and it came out fine, albeit it was painful on the fingertips and took my sister AND I to remove it.

I was disheartened by the bigger mold not working and my husband ended up having to cut it out of the mold. It was hardened completely, I don鈥檛 know why I had to end up destroying my new mold.

Nice shape assortment. Nice shiney results. Watch for bubbles, especially in corners and at the tips. The bases of some are a little unstable and can tip. The sides of the cube are a little thin and prone to distorting.

I squared mine up with one of my hubby’s clamp systems. Remember to pour in layers! These are deep and cure fast and get warm. I did the cube in 5 pours. These first two were a bit thick but didn’t get overly hot, but you could feel the heat.

I love this stuff! It works incredibly well. I personally love how it will adhere to itself once fully dried and applying more to seal spaces or fill bubble holes. To avoid most holes, I would recommend banging the bottom of the container you have housing it, on a surface.

Much like muffin tins on a countertop. The only downside is it’s super expensive and it is not a large quantity AT ALL! I bought a set before and used it, yet my moulds were off, they weren’t centred or something else went “wrong”.

While I understand there is a learning curve and it’s about the fun you have in the process, $79 is a hefty price to fork out.

The mold material is very easy to work with. Building a leak proof box,holding the item to be copied, was a challenge. I used the same white poster board in the video but I did find a very useful tool, called Foam Werks.

It is a straight bevel cutter which you can make 45 degree cuts, instead of using straight cuts to tape together. It makes the edges of the box much easier to close, and helped prevent leaks.

This produce is so easy to mix, pour and mold, and the results are fabulous. The only downside for me is the exorbitant price. I don’t think I’ll get more than 3 or 4 molds from the quantity of material provided so will likely have to stick with buying readymade molds.

However, if there is a special object you want to replicate in resin, this is a great product to use.

This is Amazing just like the name says! Easy to use. Just mix 50/50, stir well and pour. I made my first ever cast with this and it came out great! The odor is just a bit strong and lingering. I suggest to use it in the garage or room you don’t use much.

This was very simple to use. I had seen a few ideas on the internet of some fun little crafts to do. When I was mixing it, very few bubbles formed, but the rose to the top easily to get popped. It took the shape of the intricate mold very well and I’m very pleased with the results.

This is the worst resin I’ve used and I’ve been making resin pieces for a couple of years. The odor is awful, it takes forever to set and the work time is a joke. I only bought it because I needed to do some custom pieces and my reg resin was delayed.

I had a lot of fun making the letters of the alphabet using this resin. One thing that I love about resin is that the possibilities are endless with different things that you can make with it. The box included two bottles; the hardener and the resin.

Each bottle has four ounces, but since you are supposed to mix each part in a 1:1 ratio, this makes eight ounces total when mixed. Both of the bottles have a child-proof lid. It would have been helpful if this included measuring cups.

I already had the measuring cups that I needed to mix everything so that isn’t a big deal for me. I have very little experience with resin, so the instructions were really helpful and easy to understand and follow.

The resin was easy to mix. I even added glitter and dyes to add a special touch to the letters I made. This resin has a strong odor, but it isn’t horrible as long as you are working in a well ventilated area.

I used a silicone mold. I waited about 24 hours before I took the letters out of the mold, they were easy to pop out. Once the resin has cured, the finish is glossy.

This epoxy resin worked great for my project. I made coasters with this resin. The 16oz size gives you a lot to work with! I had never worked with resin before, but if you read the instructions it is pretty simple to do.

You mix one part of the bottle marked with a “1” with one part of bottle “2”. They have to be equal one to one ratio for the resin to work properly. This is easy to achieve with a measuring cup. I do warn you though, even though it says low odor.

it is extremely strong smelling! I worked in a ventilated area with windows open and fans on and I also wore a mask and the smell was so strong for me. If you can, I would recommend doing this outside! It was almost too strong to handle for me.

I also learned that when you are mixing both parts together to mix SLOWLY. I mixed too fast the first time and ended up with a lot of bubbles in mine. After the product is mixed properly for 3 minutes you can add alcohol ink or glitter of you want.

After I poured mine into the mold I used a lighter to skim the top of mine to get rid of the bubbles that were forming in the top. This worked great! The package said to let it sit for 24 hours and then take it out of the mold.

And then 3-5 days let it sit out in a flat surface to finish setting up. Mine only took about 2 days to fully finish setting up. This was so much fun and I would recommend to anyone, especially first timers! It is a fun project!.

I am kinda torn about this review because even though Mod Podge is a great product with amazing brand recognition, I felt it did not perform up to standard and it’s my first time trying their resin. First of all, resin is supposed to be thick, and pourable.

This resin was THICK and then some! It was hard to pour smoothly and easily into the molds and there were so many bubbles. You could use a flame or try warming the resin first, but that’s just a lot of work.

It also doesn’t dry completely clear. It has a yellowish-amber colored tint to it which makes it look aged. So that’s not good! I think if you have the time to warm this and use a flame, it will be a good, cheap option for small projects.

Otherwise, if you’re looking for a better and easier product to use, this is not it.

After trying the B***o brand of polyester resin on part of my boat deck project, and struggling with several issues with it (the acrid fumes even with a respirator, thick viscosity, short pot life), I figured there had to be another way.

I found Clearcast 7000 and bought the one-gallon kit. What an amazing product! Mixed, it has the consistency of enamel paint. It can easily be poured out and brushed around with a bristle chip brush or a putty spreader, or the brush can be dipped into the mixture and painted on.

It is thin enough to soak in to the wood somewhat, which is a real plus, but not so thin that it just runs everywhere. Note that the pot life I’m experiencing is about 30-40 minutes, after which it starts to thicken to the point of no longer being paintable.

but I just mix my batch sizes accordingly, and 4-5 oz mixed volume seems about right. My project is being done in an enclosed garage – in the winter – in Wisconsin – with the heater on. It is so great to have no fumes to speak of.

It has a pleasant sweet/nutty aroma consistent with other 2-part epoxies that isn’t offensive to me at all. I am so glad I found this product!.

So it is very affordable compared to other top leading brands and is very easy to work with. Self leveling for easy pours and dries crystal clear. There were few to no bubbles at all during the process so no need for constant torching or hair drying.

Mix, pour, swirl, go eat lunch, and your done. Curing process is fast and your ready to go on to the next one. Definately recommend you at least try it out if your into castings. If you haven’t tried an epoxy resin project or craft what are you waiting for.

It is beautiful the perfect self leveling resin I have learned so much about this resin. I am 100 % satisfied. My Maui customers will love my art. Half of the work is this unique great quality resin.

I love this company. After trying first time this one came to stay. I have never done resin it has been so inspiring and FUN! Customer Service is awesome. Honestly the best.

I use this epoxy with the slow hardener for woodworking. I work with old wood, and often have large nail holes to fill. This product is quite viscous as it oozes into the holes, and bubbles rise very slowly to the top.

It often takes an extra few tries before the holes are completely filled. Cleanup with water is poor. The fully cured result is a little gummy and clogs sandpaper somewhat. I also notice that the epoxy sinks into the wood a bit, meaning more sanding is necessary.

I am aware that this product was not made for woodworking, but I don’t know an alternative. That said, the result is nice, and the service is absolutely excellent. The last order arrived in one day!.

The products I ordered were West System 105 resin and 206 hardener, filler, and pumps. Everything arrived in a timely manner. The instructions on the West web site were very informative for a novice user.

the only reason I did not rate it a 5 as the gallon size resin can was dented pretty good on the bottom corner. It did not leak and or create any other usability issues so I did not complain about it.

I’ve used MAS epoxy on 4 wood strip kayaks and numerous other projects and have been completely satisfied. I’ve stopped using the fast hardener as it gels pretty fast in hot weather, but that is what it is supposed to do.

Overall no complaints.

No blush means that you do not have to do any prep between applications. Nothing could be easier. You can also mix the hardeners, fast, medium, or slow to manage any working time or setup you need. The low viscosity resin is perfect for penetrating any glass material and penetrating water damaged wood base.

I will never use West products. MAS is far superior.

I had multiple small areas of surface (non-structural) delamination to repair. I drilled #30 holes at opposite ends of the each area, then applied heat and pressure to set the glass back down. Then I used a 6cc plastic veterinary syringe, a tight fit into one #30 hole, to force the low-viscosity epoxy into the area until it flowed out the other hole.

Finally, I covered the area with a non-stick plastic sheet and used 25# lead shot bags to hold it down until the epoxy set. Using the fast hardener, this was just a few hours.

Quality Resin, Surprisingly good results I’ve used epoxy resins for about 3 years now and I’ve used a couple different formulas. I normally use a vacuum degassing process to remove air bubbles but that just didn`t seem to work with the 7050 formula- it never did settle to a clear liquid in my container after several minutes.

Frustrated, I just poured the mix into my molds to see how bad they would turn out. I could see bubbles in the molds and the mix was starting to cure so I gave them little hope. Amazingly, when I came to look at them several hours later most all the bubbles were gone and they were crystal clear! I was stunned good! After 24 hours they seemed very solid but I still did my post-cure of 24 hours at 150 degrees F.

These look fantastic, hard and clear. I usually mill my molds on a lathe, if that works well then I am hooked on this product! I should mention it was cold (about 50 degrees F) where I performed the degassing, MAYBE that is why the formula acted so unexpectedly.

I have high hopes for using this product, so far it has exceeded my expectations. I may have to alter my past processes to work best with this product.

I’ve been playing with resins for a while now, everything from casting, art pours to flooring, and this is by far the BEST one I’ve tried. (I’ve tried about 8 different brands) First off, it has no odor.

Big plus! It sets up quickly, and I was able to pull off my test pieces in about 6 hours, though I went ahead and let it fully cure for 24 hours on most pieces. Most resins show scratches fairly easily and if you’re using it for a counter or flooring, you then have to sand it out and re-pour over it to really get it out.

This one did scratch when I pressed a nail across it, but it did not show prominently, and I couldn’t even make any kind of mark with my own finger nails. If it has any down side it might be that you have to mix a minimum of 2-3 ounces at a time for it to properly set up correctly.

This isn’t an issue for me since I generally do large batches at a time, but if someone is just a hobbyist and wants to do little pours this might not be for you. I’ve already ordered myself another gallon of this stuff, I know I’ll use it!.

The best casting resin for almost all project! Super clear and very hard. I make resin jewelry and art and I’ve tried nearly every 2-part epoxy on the market. The Clearcast 7050 resin is my favorite by far.

It mixes in a 2:1 ratio which you can measure by volume or weight. It releases bubbles easily. In a warm area it cure fairly quickly (6hrs or so). It cures crystal clear and it is the hardest resin I’ve ever used.

It’s easy to sand and very durable. It is heat resistant and I’ve had no issue with yellowing at all. You can use this in shallow jewelry molds or larger petri dish type molds. I’ve attached pictures of a few art pieces I’ve made with this resin.

The other great thing about this resin is that it’s less expensive than many of the “premium” resins.

This is my first time making a river table or using two part resin for that matter. I am very pleased with the MAS Deep Pour as well as the Table Top. I suffered a bit of a mishap during the deep pour due to improper measuring resulting in a rather large exothermic reaction.

I appiled the Table Top about 2 1/2 hours ago and it looks GREAT!!! It’s finally set and no more need to torch any bubbles! It’s all about following the instructions! This is Mappa Burl measuring 25 X 49 X 2 inches.

I used Eye Candy ‘Okinawa Green’ pigments. The pattern was caused by the ‘boiling’ or internal convection as a result of the improper measuring. I have enough Mappa left over the make another table. I’ll definitely be using MAS products!.

I have been using different types of epoxies for about 20 years now. And figured I would try this since it cheaper than what I normally use. “Always hoping to find a deal”! I write this because I learned the hard way that there is a steep, “Learning Curve” with this type of material.

Prep is, “Almost” everything with epoxy finishes. But there are MANY factors and variables that will relate to how well your project will turn out. And this, “Kit” comes with no instructions at all! I knew what I was getting when I first ordered this but if you are new to this type of finish? Do not believe that you can just, “Wing it”.

Rockler also sells “System Three” epoxies which is more expensive but worth every penny. “System three” became my go-to epoxies/topcoats about five years ago because it is all simply “great stuff” and they have great customer support too! “The epoxy bible is free on the website” to give you a “For Instance”.

I will say though, There is NOTHING like a epoxy finish on a nice piece of your woodwork! It stands out in a crowd, for sure! Pics are of a “Mappa Burl”, “Mahogany”, and figured “Sugar Maple”, piano bench I just finished.

(All wood was dyed), “No stain”. With an epoxy finish and polyurethane, UV protected topcoat. Good luck!.

I purchased this epoxy to test and learn. It performed as advertised. My first pour was a seal coat. I put making tape on the edges and clear shipping tape on the bottom where the liquid might flow thru.

The seal was effective. It soaked into knots and cracks and didn’t completely fill them. The next day I scuffed the service and made the second pour. I left the original tape around the surface which was a mistake.

After 10 minutes I tried to remove the tape so it would flow over the edges. The tape would not come off cleanly. The lesson is to Retape after each pour. My second error was not sealing the end grain sufficiently.

My second test applying the lessons in the first went well. The epoxy leveled nicely, my heat gun took care of the bubbles, and it dried crystal clear. I intentionally waited 20 minutes and tried to add epoxy from the mixing cup and exactly as expected it wouldn’t level.

I followed the directions and this product performed as expected.

I really like this resin for making artwork. You can’t really mess up the ratio, its very forgiving if you are like me and prefer to eye your portions, rather than actually measure. It has a very slow set, which is great also if your a slow artist, like me.

I don’t like to be rushed! This stuff gives you almost an hour of workability. I also have kids, so i really like it’s very low odor. My only gripe would be i don’t think it is very good to cast small pieces using a mold: i was casting eyes for dolls, and the resin stuck to my silicone molds, so much it ripped out a chunk of one in the removal/demolding process.

Other than that, it’s fantastic and nothing I’ve made in the past year has yellowed at all. I recommend.

I am an artist that uses acrylic paint on various surfaces, such as wood to do barn quilts, (that can be painted or stained) and hung outside, rocks ( for gardens or small gifts),small canvases, mirrors, or ceramic tile to do pointillism or mandalas.

I coat all of them with resin when done to maintain color and protect the surfaces. The resin makes them heat and cold tolerant. Much less expensive than using other coatings, such as varnishes or glazes.

Started experimenting with this a little or a year ago and will never go back to using something else. A lot of what I make gets custom frames and the resin makes it looks like glass, which I could never afford for each piece.

Product is wonderful, easy to use, almost no smell. I used it for rock painting and the result is glossy looking, very shiny. I also used it on canvas, easy to spread over the canvas, sealed very well.

The color of the painting didn’t change at all, no yellowish result. Love the product. As usual, Blick shipping is fast.

I found that this resin is much thicker than most. The bottle says approximately 30 min work time and thats exactly what you get. For clear coating or casting its good. Not the product you want to use if you are doing different color artistic pours as it heats up very quickly after adding the color.

And the viscosity is very thick hard to get the stuff to even spread much less mix and mingle on the project.

This epoxy dries very clear and hard, but took about 2 days to set up. Apparently I had a pinhole in the tape or something and the epoxy ended up mostly on the floor. Some legible instructions would have been helpful and any tips on how to work with tit would also be welcomed.

Probably great for a pro, not so much for an amateur.
