20 Best Epoxy Paint For Garage Floor (2023 Updated)

While the packaging is beautiful and the instruction is simple, I was scratching my head when using this kit. I followed the instruction to the dot, but the epoxy just didn’t want to mix properly. The paint come in compartmentalized bags, and you’re supposed to mix the two IN THE BAG for 3 minutes.

I mixed it and massaged it for 10 minutes, and I could feel that there were chunky bits and pieces that were not getting incorporated. I should’ve thrown it away, but I went against my guts and painted it onto my etched concrete — and after a day I can tell that it’s not working as it should: the color is uneven, the texture is sticky, and the chunky bits are showing up & are breaking off when you touch it.

If you’re looking to epoxy your garage, I recommend getting 2-part epoxy that are BOTH liquid. Amazon carries one called “Supercoat”.

Very easy to use. Comes with concrete etching covers easy. My garage floor has never looked better. One thing I noticed is if you spread it a bit too thin the gloss is not as good. Still would recommend this to anyone that wants a great looking floor.

It would seem harsh to rate it at 3 stars due to the fact it looks so good, dry’s quickly, and spreads so evenly. But the fact is, it’s durability could be better. Seems like I’m always patching spots were a tool or part hit the floor.

That’s after the clear coat was installed over the base.

I’ve used this product on my basement floor in spring 2016. I followed the instructions and received good results. However, since I have gym equipment in the basement, the thinner sections had to be recoated 18 months later.

Not a major problem as long as you can find the color to match your original coating. I used mocha which is a little difficult to find. I purchased this batch to do an additional touch up because l’m hard on my floor (dropping tools, solvents, caulking, glue, etc.

). So to keep everything looking good, a touch here and there is necessary. One drawback is if you don’t plan your usage of this product, it will start getting hot in the pouch it is mixed in then it will get hard and unusable.

I mark my touch up areas beforehand with post it stickies then quickly coat the areas before the product gets hard. This is a great product for do it yourselfers. Clean and prep the area, work at a good pace, be aware of the dry time before you walk or drive on the finished product.

Results are great if you follow the directions in the box.

I would like to start this by saying it will be an honest review. I spent quite a bit of money on this product. After reading other reviews on several platforms the consensus is that even though the box says it will cover a 2.

5 car garage it most certainly will not which is why I purchased 2 kits to start so I would not run out even though I only have a 2 car garage. It did take every bit of a box and a half and that is pushing it.

So that makes this product twice as expensive. The coating goes on like a thick tar or more like honey and is not very easy to work with. The foam rollers it comes with get so tacky that they peel right off the cardboard inner structure and make quite a mess getting off the metal roller.

This product was applied when the temperature was 70-75 degrees by day and 50-55 degrees at night with low humidity for seven days straight. It took 5 days for the floor to be dry enough to walk on and still had some tacky spots.

However the product states you can walk on in 8-10 hours and drive on in 24 hours which is completely inaccurate. When the floor gets any sort of moisture on it and is wiped up it permanently hazes and scratches even with a soft cloth.

If left to dry on it’s own it becomes white and hazy on the black coated floor. I went with this product because it was the color I wanted and Summit Racing has the best price around but I am glad I didn’t spend more than I did and am unhappy it had to be twice as much as the manufacturer suggests but I guess they know this and how to increase their profit 2 fold.

It serves it’s purpose for now but has not had any actual use from vehicles to see how durable it is.

The Project: 1. 28’x26′ (728 sq ft) 16 year old concrete garage floor, 2. 5 car garage, normal wear and tear (dirty, cracks, stains, etc ) 2. I am an average to above average DIYer The Application Process 1.

First pressure washed garage floor using degreaser/cleaner 2. Waited a full day then used etching and scrub brush and cleaned/rinsed as instructed 3. Waited a full 4 days before applying Rocksolid (drying out period) 4.

Vacuumed garage floor before applying Rocksolid 5. Temp during application always below 80 degrees 6. Humidity during application always below 70 percent 7. Based on reviews, used 2x amount of Rocksolid than recommended (one bag per approx 200 sq ft) 8.

After first application, waited full day and repeated applying another coat (one bag per 200 sq ft) 9. During second coat, added in anti-skid mixture 10. Applied chips during second coat 11. Waited full day and applied textured clear coat (again using 2x amount recommended) The Results and Observations 1.

Prepping/cleaning is probably most important part of whole process 2. Make sure concrete is fully dried and weather conditions (temp and humidity) are within recommended application range before applying Rocksolid 3.

Coverage area listed on product is significantly off. Plan on using 2x amount of recommended coverage. I used four 2. 5 kits for 728 sq ft and put on 2 coats (2 kits per coat). Basically, one bag (two bags are in a 2.

5 kit) covers 200 sq ft. 4. Some bubbles surfaced after each coat, but nothing significant. Bubbles were no bigger than pencil eraser and would pop upon touching. 5. If using chips, no need for anti-skid mixture 6.

Use gloves or have wet and dry towels handy when applying Rocksolid 7. Hard to tell if textured clear coat was beneficial following 2 coats of Rocksolid 8. Floor looks really sharp and glossy w/o chips.

Chips add texture but reduce gloss and shine 9. Floor is slick w/o chips 10. Roller brushes worked fine. Used one brush per kit (comes w/ 2 brushes) 11. So far Rocksolid has been great. Will update review if product deteriorates with time.

12. Review is 4. 5/5. Would be a 5 but coverage is not as specified. Easy to use. Easy to clean up.

My nephew and I did both of our garage floors. We both used Dove Grey with Granite flake. The hardest part was the prep – that is, Floor Grinding. We rented a 10″ grinder from Home Depot and that was a huge mistake, as it barely did anything.

We returned it and got a 7″ from a rental company. That made a huge difference, and it actually went pretty fast. Filling in the expansion joints went faster than I thought it would. We used a 2-part epoxy with play sand as the filler and that stuff turned hard in a half hour and ground down to match the floor.

That part of the project, all on it’s own, made a huge difference in the look of the floor. If we had questions, and called or emailed Colored Epoxies, we got a prompt answer. The end result? Friggin’ awesome! Thank you Colored Epoxy!.

I installed 1200 square feet with another person. I mixed and they applied it a half kit at a time. It was tough to keep up with the gassing at that many square feet. We sanded before the second coat and still ended up with small bubbles in the final product.

I think the torch method would have maybe been the way to go. I guess i can just chalk up the finish to its anti skid. It’s gray and it’s on the floor. We’ll see how it wears. I did only use 3 kits for the 1200 square feet and have 1 kit that the cans have not been opened.

Would be nice if there’s a way to return it ? It’s been inside and the box and foam is intact. Only the top was opened at the seam. I’m sure it’s a practice makes perfect system.

Ordered a 3 gallon colored kit spikes rollover and chips. Spent almost 600$. Everything came in spurts! Epoxy came 1 day then the roller and spikes came another. But my chips were on delay. I emailed Jacob and asked him what was going on and I needed them to complete my project and he got nasty and canceled my order and refunded the money !! I could not believe he did that.

Without asking or a warning Absolutely horrible as he knew I was waiting for them. Now I have to scramble to buy new onesSomewhere else after I waited over a week for these. Just not right. Just beware people.

There’s a lot of other businesses out there who would love your business. NOT Colored Epoxy !! They don’t care about you.

Ordered this online from Miramar and shipped to NC promptly and as expected without a hitch. I needed another pack to finish a garage top coat within curing time of base so time was critical. Repeat customer.

In these days of supply chain disruptions I can count on Miramar to “Get Er Done”. I will continue to use as reliable source and recommend them. By the way…turned out great. like a sheet of glass (ceiling lights reflecting off coat).

Not Summit Racing fault, I contacted Rust-Oleum to tell them about the terrible Rock Solid gray coating I put down. It had un even textures and bloches, some places the coating felt like sand paper. Rust-pleum suggested a coat of their clear to even things out, I bought 2 boxes of their clear from Summit, it made my floor worse, not only does my original problem still exist, the clear has fish eyes in it an a host of uneven looking texture.

Shipped quick and the quality is good. I was using this over a coat of grey that I had applied recently. I was getting an inconsistent reflection from the grey coat and the suggestions were to put the clear coat on top.

The clear coat helped a lot with the appearance and I am pleased. I did have to put this on extra thin so if you are not putting this over another coat you will need twice as much as they say.

I am not using this epoxy for the intended purpose. I am using it to waterproof assemblies that will be submerged in the sea. Those assemblies have a hard, shiny, non-metallic surface that cannot be roughened by sanding or any other means, and there exposed electrical connections.

Amazingly this stuff adheres tenaciously with no surface preparation or primers. I wash things with alcohol to remove any oils, and that’s it. I apply it with a cheap brush without thinning and the surface self levels to a clear, smooth, hard, shine.

I’ve been testing the various items for over a week underwater in simulated conditions that exceed the real expected environment, and I’ve had no failures, no water penetration, no loss of surface adhesion during mild flexing or thermal cycling.

It appears to be a very tough product that truly works on things other than swimming pools or fish ponds, and it sticks to stuff with little encouragement. I noticed that it entrains a lot of tiny bubbles, more bubbles than I create by stirring components.

I tried out-gassing that with a vacuum chamber, and it does not appear to be possible. I think it makes its own bubbles, but these have not caused any type of leakage or failures. I don’t know how long it will hold up underwater in this application, but since it’s made to last in swimming pools, it should be good here too.

We’ll see.

They tell you to sand cement down and to take something to clean what you sanded. Yet there is not enough information on what to use first accept some king of acid?? Yet when you call they inform you they sale it.

??? Maybe send this back will be your best option.

The mixing of the three ingredients was simple enough. But I had a lot of brush work (ie:cutting in corners) so when they instruct you not to mix more product than you can use in 30min that was no doubt meant for rollers because my 1st batch started to go off in less than 20min and when it starts it unuseable in about 3min.

So I recommend to do your rolling 1st then your brush work. Also; and this is a big one, IF your applying to a wood surface, round off all edges. Any 90deg corners and the product tends to pull away as it tries to self level, leaving the edge with a very thin to even unprotected surface.

This issue has a hard time overcoming even after second,third and fourth coats and in some cases I had to use silicone to ease my mind. Other than that, this is a great product, and I would definitely use it every time I need to waterproof in the future.

Now that I am familiar with it’s little quirks I’m sure my next encounter with Pond Shield will be next to flawless.

Bought the recommended volume after talking to customer service. I bought extra because I wanted to paint a third coat. Service was spot on, knowledgeable and answered every question truthfully. Prepped the patio and used Drylok to patch holes and cracks.

I should have worked a bit harder and filled cracks less than 1/8″ but I was being lazy. Product came in gallons and I transferred to a 5-gallon can to ensure color quality. Put on first coat on half of the patio and it covered as described and explained.

Applied 2nd coat next day and could not see a transition color. Only problem was the cracks that were at 1/8″ that did not fill well. In a couple of days and if the weather is warm enough, I will apply a third and final coat.

With the coverage of cracks on 2nd coat, I believe the cracks will pretty much disappear. The third coat will bring a smooth and excellent finish. I could not be happier and I am very glad I bought this product.

I am very happy with this paint!! My floor had all kinds of problems, but needed a quick inexpensive fix for. This paint is a little thinner than I thought it would be, so you have to be careful not to splatter.

I had to use a brush, instead of the recommended roller. It was easy to put on two thin coats. It dries super fast. a couple of hours and you can walk on it with no tackiness. Mine did need the second coat.

I am very happy with the results!.

This Epoxy Floor Paint went on very easy and had little prep work before hand. The shop looks so much better and is easy to clean up as opposed to just plain paint. And the best part, no odor. The brushes and rollers were so easy to use and clean up.

I believe the inner pouch might have already been broken and mixed in transit. The Epoxyshield came out in big clumps and would not mix even out of the package. After coating the floor, the coating has not hardened and is still very soft.

I do not reccomend this product, and I dont know how I will fix the mess it has created.

Very happy with this product, it applies very easily, very good instructions, I did use an old mayonnaise bottle and drilled five 1/4 inch holes in the top (than put the paint chips in the bottle) and used bottle to distribute the chips on the floor.

This made for a very even distribution of chips. I will recommend this product to all my street rod buddies who want to display their cars in a very professional looking area. I have used other products in the past and this is the best one I have used to date.

This makes a garage floor look spanking. BUT heed the advice, follow the instructions and do not rush. The floor must be CLEAN! DRY! OIL FREE. you can smack it down and fail or prepare prepare prepare and get a stonking result.

It takes a good 24 hours before you can walk on it not the 6 quoted. Very pleased with mine.

I used Rust-Oleum “Professional” grade EpoxyShield 2 part epoxy. Regular Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage is a 2 part non-catalyzed paint, which is powdered epoxy suspended in water, it’s “Fake News” (found out via YouTube video just before application of the “non-professional product).

Then covered with Rust-Oleum Epoxy Clear. Results turned out amazing. Ran Epoxy Shield to outside edge of slab, but stopped clear coat at door’s edge due to clear coat yellowing over time, due to direct sunlight.

Wished I knew some of this before I started. now you have your official tip! Also used Elastipoxy. This stuff works great but they are very proud of their product ($$$$). Make sure you let it sit before use (gets rid of bubble holes when set up).

They recommend filling concrete control joint with sand. I did this and tamped down with side of flat bar and hammer. First time pour, product filler joint, but partially soaked into sand, then needing a second coat, after it hardened $$$.

2 quart cans only covered half of the joints in a 3 car track home garage, with this technique. I reluctantly ordered a second set. Filled joint with tamped sand again. Tried covering sand with electrical and masking tape (to reduce seepage), but couldn’t get a solid seal.

Then covered sand with thin layer of $14 polyester resin. This put a thin seal over the sand. I let harden, then poured ElastiPoxy over the compacted resin covered sand. The resin prevented seepage. If I had done this technique, I might have done the whole project with one 2 quart set.

I recommend doing ElasiPoxy after all concrete prep work is done prior to epoxy coating whole floor, meaning degrease, pressure wash, TSP, and etch. Found a blow torch worked best to remove stubborn oil stains, it’s kind of like removing oil shale, but the torch burns off oil once out.

Once hardened grind off with belt sander till smooth with 36 to 80 grit. If you are lucky enough not to grind leave it. It tends to build up on edges, so grinding makes it flush. Ground product takes a little more attention when applying epoxy floor coat, as it has just a hint of porosity.

Over all product is just what the doctor ordered. Seems to be just a bit more elastic then Bondo, when hardened. Still wondering if Bondo will work because of price, but not willing to experiment due to over-all price of floor.

I ordered this for my store room which is one third of my three car garage, or about 237 sq. ft. It rolled on easily after mixing, and covered well. The only variable affecting my experience was the distribution of sprinkles.

It was more difficult than I thought to get them evenly placed. But, overall, I really like the product and will use it again in my main 2 car garage. Note: I wish I would have done the stem wall also.

I just didn’t think I would have enough product, but come to find out, I would have. I will probably just paint it with some garage paint.

This is the second time I’ve used this pro product for a garage floor coating, both with excellent results. I’ve had one floor coated with this for 9 months, and it’s holding up perfectly. My friends and neighbors are envious as both garages are sparkling clean and professional looking.

Here are a few pointers to ensure you have success with this product. 1. Prep is key, ensure the floor is super clean, oil and residue free, dry, and etched properly. I used Dawn floor cleaner, pouring it directly on two problem oil spots in the garage.

Scrub and rinse the entire floor thoroughly. I used a squeegie to help get the floor dry. I had to use a heat gun to help dry the concrete joints after 24h as they were a problem area for me. 2. Buy extra product.

For me the product covered about 300 sq ft per a 2 gallon kit. You don’t want to run out halfway through the project. 3. Buy another couple sets of chips as ones in the box are ground up, like a bag of smashed potato chips, and go easy on the chip application.

4. Buy and use a clear gloss coat of Rust Oleum epoxy on top of the floor, and apply it 24-48 hours after this product dries. It really makes the floor pop with the gloss finish. I didn’t use the anti skid in the kit as the chips give enough grip.

5. Give the floor extra time to cure, so you have a rock solid finish.

First let me say that to me a garage is a garage not a car showroom. If you want that type of look pay a professional. With that said I purchased the product with the intent of upgrading my existing painted floor in hopes of doing something different.

The product is a little expensive but seemed to work fine, though how it will hold up is the question. Just a few things to think about. The color I chose was called Amaretto and I guess it looks like that in some way but is more of a copper/orange color.

My kids call it the lava floor and I kind of like it. When my existing floor was pored I had broom marks placed into it to help with keeping it from getting to slippery when wet and they showed up. To get a truly smooth finish you may be able to eliminate that by doing a second coat.

As for coverage you should figure about 75-100 sq ft per box. , so I would by 25% more product just to be safe. One last thing, dampen the roller cover before you start and make sure it is fully loaded with product when you do the first roll.

The more product you have on it the easier it is to work with it on the floor and change the roller cover ever other box. All in all , a little expensive but happy with the results. good luck.

From Expoxy shield garage floor coating & RustOleum rock solid metallic floor coating. My Garage make over in Austin, Texas and the weather mostly HOT and dry. I used 9 of the kits after completely scrape off the old Exopy garage floor products (machine sand all of the existing, power washed, air dry for the few days and re-do the new RustOleum rock solid metallic floor coating at over 80 degrees in open garage temperature).

After nearly 6 months later the new RustOleum garage floor started peeled off a big chunk from my car tired sat on it. Day after day it keep peel bigger and bigger areas. I had contact RustOleum customer support named ‘Debbie Horan’ and she is giving me many reasons for not warranty the products.

ASKED and NOT GIVE. SAVE your time and money for NOT using RustOleum (NOT so) RockSolid Metallic Garage kit.

Good • Beautiful coating • The metallic component is more significant than I expected. The floor shows a lot of glitter. • Actual application is pretty fast. • The floor feels wonderful – it’s like it has a plastic coating.

• Spent a considerable amount of time on prep, including grinding the surface and epoxy filling all cracks and chips. Other comments • It really is a 2 person job. It’s hard to imagine how one person could do it.

It might even be better to have 3 people. o 1 – cutting o 2 – Application o 3 – immediate prep and mixing • Impossible to have the floor too well prepped. As thoroughly as I prepped the floor, there were still contaminants (mostly sand/grit) that remained.

• Coating is more opaque than I expected. You can see through it. • Bubbles can occur where there is any type of contaminant on the floor – including soap, grease, water, … • Be careful where you mix.

Be neat. Probably should wear nitrile gloves. This stuff is sticky and gets everywhere. • The material is more like spreading glue than spreading paint. • Roller pad must be saturated before it starts working well.

• The finished floor shows all dirt, including shoe prints (just like a dark colored car. • It does take more than advertised. My garage should have been good with 6 boxes. I ordered 12 and it took 9.

We had very slippery hardwood stairs in a fine home. The poly finish was pretty but too slick for me. Even my dog could not get a good grip and was afraid to use the stairs. We found Dura Grip online and ordered a gallon of Clear WB, water based.

I cleaned the stair treads with isopropyl alcohol. I applied the first coat with the open foam roller supplied with the paint. This worked fine but left bubbles in the surface, and those bubbles survived the drying.

Fortunately the milky tint faded and the first coat dried very clear. We did not want to obscure the oak wood grain. I took a rolling pin and popped the bubbles before the second coat, which I applied (in the opposite direction) with a fine foam 6″ roller.

This filled in the bubble craters, and did not leave new ones. The stairs came out clear, hard and with a nice rough finish. I am pleased with the result, especially the non-slip surface. From eye level you can tell the finish is different than the floors and landing, but the wood grain shows fine and it is so much safer who cares! Very happy customer!.

I have painted many things both professionally and for myself. I have never used a product quite like this before. ever! When I opened the can I had to spend a few minutes mixing. Thats no problem, many paints settle out in layers.

It might have taken a bit longer maybe. But the consistency was not expected. It was quite thin. I was refinishing a diamond clad staircase which was originally black and very hot on bare feet on a sunny day so we chose the lightest gray.

The directions recommended two coats and with the runny paint I thought I was going to be doing a second coat for sure. Most non slip paints, you can see granules in the paint. I saw nothing. Even when painting it on.

Strange. Have to be careful and load brush and rollers just right to prevent drips and runs. Now here is the WOW part. After a few hours I went back out to look at the stairs and there it was; a fine stippled finish.

I called everyone out to look at it!! Of course they were’nt near as excited as I was lol. Now here is the best part. It did’nt need a second coat. One coat covered the black very well. Im not even sure I used a full quart, but then again I rung out the roller and brush really well back into the paint bucket.

Now Im trying to figure out what else needs this stuff!!!So the “doctors” in slipdoctors is the real deal. It has to be some kind of crazy chemical reaction or the granules are so small they cant really be seen.

Super fast shipment, great price. Would definitely buy again. This was floor paint. 1 can was damaged inside the box though the outer box itself wasn’t damaged. Did not affect use of the product. Someone perhaps manufacturer loaded a damaged can or second into this package.

You really need to make sure the floor is flat and without any holes, dips or rough zones. Perhaps I was naive to expect the Epoxy to be thick enough to cover imperfections. So make sure all is smooth before you apply.

Looks great when finished.

Love the look and ease of this product. Never will a garage of mines not have this.

This is a great topcoat for RockSolid color coat, especially if you used one with color flakes. Its thinner than the color coat and you apply it with a 3/8″ nap roller. It covered a 24×16 area with some to spare.

I dont know if you could stretch it to 24×10. I’ve read that using this as the main coating for bare concrete will cut the coverage in half. It went on easy, but you need good lighting to make sure you dont miss any spots.

At 40 degrees it was walk on dry in about 30 hours. It looks great over gray base with flakes.

I’ve used this product a few times, over the Rustoleum solvent epoxy floor paint, the combination works well, the finish is stunning. Application is a bit nasty, you need a good respirator, to be expected with solvent products.

One small gripe, the clear developed “dirt lines”, lines where it remained slightly sticky and then discolored. I mixed thoroughly so not sure why this happened. Getting ready for another application and hoping this doesn’t happen.

This stuff is gorgeous. We followed the limited instructions to the letter. Power washed the floor, etched small sections at a time, rinsing thoroughly every time. Allowed the floor to air dry 2 days in 80+ degree temperatures.

We rolled on the RockSolid Metallic floor coating, being careful not to get down consistently not too thick or thin and as it dried, bubbles started popping up. We used a total of 7 kits on a 712 sq ft garage and have approximately 2 dozen bubbles varying in size from a dime to a half dollar.

The bubbles didn’t pop and once the floor dried, I scraped them off with a blade. A thick ring is left with almost bare concrete in the middle. At first glance, the floor is really gorgeous, but I’m so disappointed at the flaws created by the bubbles.

The floor looks sensational Like a sheet of glass. However word of caution. You will need double the quantity if youre going for a color other than silver or gray. If you choose the blue, cherry, rust etc colors they require two coats in order to cover the garage floor entirely.

Otherwise you will have the concrete floor showing through the blue or red etc floor. This dries very quickly. Dont use a squeegee if your floor is the slightest uneven because it will leave lines. Make sure you prep your floor thoroughly.

I even placed a primer down after using the etching.

After much comparison and shopping around we purchased Behr Semi- transparent concrete stain after having good luck with their other products. All the directions were followed for application and curing, but we are now finding that the stain is not the least bit durable to the elements.

We live in Minnesota and the ice is pulling most of the color right up. This is the first season, so I would expect more from this considering all the work it took to apply and the price for the product.

It looked great, but if it does not last, then that os worth nothing. Very disappointed. I will be posting in social media to for-warn others.

I recently purchased this product which I used to paint my driveway, a previously unfinished concrete. I pressure washed the concrete which was already in good shape. I then painted it on with appropriate weather conditions and as directed (although I didn’t use a primer first).

The result was a disaster. While the semi-transparent stain gives a more natural finish that is somewhat inconsistent overall, I was completely unprepared for the roller marks which left me very unhappy.

I contacted Behr Paints directly and explained my problem. I wasn’t sure if I could expect any help since I had not worked with the stain before and wondered if my application would mean I was just out of luck on a warranty.

However, the Behr warranty people quickly and amicably resolved my complaint without any fuss or even discussion about what I may have done wrong. They immediately sent out enough paint to redo my driveway and offered either the same stain, a solid stain or a 1-part epoxy paint.

I chose the later since my inexperience with stain left me feeling a little unconfident. They took care of custormer satisfaction happily and it’s obvious they take great pride in both their product and their customer care.

I will be a loyal Behr Paint customer and highly recommend their products as a result. However, I would suggest this particular product be applied by a pro or else be extremely diligent in following all instructions, understanding that the nature of a stain is different than that of paint and will provide a different finish than that of paint.

So, it is a great product I’m sure, but I’d recommend a pro do the job.
