20 Best Epoxy For Live Edge Table (2023 Updated)

I used this product to repair a carbon fibre boat mast that had broken into 2 pieces. I used it with the appropriate carbon fibre mat. I also purchased the plungers for the cans so that I could achieve the correct mixture at speed, I found these to be invaluable.

I fitted the mast and sailed with it in a modest breeze with no problems. It appears to be a nice strong repair, I intend to sail in the Northern championships at the end of this month (August 2021) using this mast! I feel sure that the mast repair will stand up to the task.

There were more than enough in volume to do this repair.

I have not actually started to use this particular pack of West epoxy resins but I have been using the product for very many years, almost always successfully. It is an outstanding adhesive, very versatile and seemingly quite tolerant of minor variations in the ratio of components in the mix.

I use it mainly on boats so I rely on it to withstand the marine environment. In addition to adhesive applications I use it to seal the cut edges of plywood and occasionally to reinforce and rebuild damaged or rotten timber.

It works well with glassfibre mat and cloth leaving a near transparent layer. The end result is much more reliable than the polyester/glass alternative, albeit at twice the cost. The cured system is slightly yellow after exposure to sunlight and light all epoxy systems benefits from protection from UV radiation.

Chose another resin grade if your project requires a colourless coating.

I recently became interested in making some creative wood and resin pieces and made my first purchase of the West two part epoxy system. I also purchased the metering pumps which takes away the mix ratio guess work.

I made two wood/epoxy pieces so far, and based on feedback from friends and family I suspect there will be more soon. Thank you for making the ordering and shipping easy and timely.

I finally managed to resin a custom Minecraft Lego table I painted for my kids. It ended up working well, but only after five or six FAILED layers! I feel that there need to be better instructions to save other people the hassle: – it is best to leave both bottles in a bucket of hot tap water for an hour so they are warmed up at the time of application.

It makes the resin more fluid, easier to apply, and reduces the amount of bubbles. – the resin and hardener need to be measured in volume and NOT in weight because they have different densities. Measuring in weight will result in a wrong ratio and tacky spots.

– if some of the product isn’t perfectly mixed, it will result in permanent tacky spots. The TotalBoat instructions say to mix slowly to avoid bubbles; however, if mixing not fast enough in the allotted time, the product may not be entirely mixed.

– it is best to mix the product in 2 or 3 smaller simultaneous batches at the time of application, rather than one larger batch. I mixed half a gallon worth of product in larger containers for the correct amount of time and it wasn’t mixed well enough, resulting in many tacky spots.

– It is important to watch the bubbles for at least 15-20 minutes and pop them with a heat gun on low setting. They keep appearing after 10 minutes. Don’t walk away too fast! Overall, this is a good product, but I had to order it three times because I kept having failed layers, so it ended up pretty expensive, frustrating and time consuming.

If I were to do another table, I would reorder it and do it well the first time, now that I know what to do and not to do.

Even after a seal coat I had some off gassing and micro bubbles in the second layer. Once the second layer cooled to room temp I poured the third layer and bubbles appeared in the second layer. After the resin hardened the bubbles were drilled out with a counter sink bit in a router, repaired ant the forth coat was applied which turned out perfect.

The micro bubbles appeared in the first and second layers under direct sunlight. I’m guessing the temperature was slightly too cold when I poured the first two coats of resin. I will be buying more of this product in the future, and double checking the ambient temperature of room and resin/hardener before I mix and pour, if no micro bubbles are found I’d love to change the rating to 5 stars!.

I had been entertaining the idea of doing some wood/epoxy integrated turnings and stumbled across this high performance Total Boat epoxy system and mentioned to my wife that it would be a nice and reasonable Christmas gift idea and my entry into the world of epoxy.

The kit was so outstanding that I have not turned back and am producing some of the most beautiful simple creations integrating Total Boat and hand selected hardwoods. I have had more requests for these items from coworkers and family that I have time to produce in my spare time.

I have not kept one of them as they have all gone out the door to grace the tables and homes of family and some of the highest ranking culinary experts the industry, including a Certified Master Chef.

(A very big deal, approx. only 77 of them country wide). I have found creating these works of art has become an obsession and believe it or not, with the correct minimal amount of tools, these items can be crafted by Do It Yourselfers and Pros alike.

This product comes with my full endorsement as being exactly as advertised and reputed. Five stars.

The high performance product is incredibly hard! I used it with the slow hardener to level a herringbone table. The slow hardener provided a great working time as the surface was huge. Was unsure of my abilities to get a transparent finish and spoke with tech support.

With a few pointers. my finish and clarity is perfect! Draw backs: the product seems to be on the more expensive end of resin products. The pump instruction sheet has no instructions for the 1gal slow hardener container (it is slightly shorter than the gal resin container and the pump does not fit out of the bag.

easy enough: took measurement and cut but could be confusing to other customers) the product doesn’t go quite as far as I estimated even after using the online calculator. probably just miscalculation on my part (didn’t account for crevice fill and seal coat), but could have used just a little more product in each bottle (a bonus for the seal coat).

Altogether, given the price, I would highly recomend for expensive high end projects, but explore cheaper options for small inexpensive crafts.

I have watched lots fo YouTube videos of makers using Epoxy to make cutting boards, and decided to try making some as Christmas gifts. Many of the makers I follow use TotalBoat, so I figured I would to (support the companies that support the makers).

The TB medium harder 2:1 epoxy has been SUPER easy to use, the buckets make it simple to mix and the results have been great! I ended up buying a second order of epoxy as well to make even MORE cutting boards as they ended up being so fun to make and pretty.

(I already got a friend to purchase some as well).

Dear Craft Resin, I would like to make a complaint about your product, as I have used it twice following the instructions exactly as advised and have had a disappointingly poor finish. Due to this poor finish I will not be able to sell the work I have made and therefore stand to lose a significant investment in artist’s materials.

I would very much appreciate at the very least a refund for the cost of the resin, which was Order #18874, (2L) made on Sunday 23rd January 2022 and came to £63. 00. I am a resin artist and have previously made and sold pieces successfully using Art Resin.

I switched to Craft Resin recently but have been very disappointed with the result as it will mean I will not be able to sell my pieces and so this will have cost me not only the cost of the resin but also my other materials: I create poured acrylic paintings inside wooden bowls and vessels, which I then seal with a coat of resin.

The effects have always been beautiful and worked perfectly with Art Resin and having read about your product I presumed it would enable the same result. However, using Craft Resin twice on my latest batch of work it has failed to cure evenly.

There are no sticky patches but there are very clear striations in places that look like cling film, and other areas where distinctive lines have appeared, often at right angles to each other across the centre of my pieces.

Given I pour the resin and circulate it by hand I am sure these lines appear after leaving the work to cure, as upon leaving it to rest, the resin was perfectly clear. I have ensured that I mix the parts A and B by volume, not weight, have stirred it thoroughly for between 3 and 5 minutes and followed all mixing instructions, as well as ensuring the work has been left to cure at above 22 degrees C.

After the first batch failed I had to purchase sand paper to sand back each of my six pieces of work, which took a long time, and then had to remix and repour, but unfortunately have had the same result a second time.

I can’t now afford to spend the same amount of time sanding the work back again for the same problem to recur. I am very disappointed as the cost of the materials is approximately £100 outside of the resin costs, and I would have hoped to have made £200 from the work.

Please can you refund me the cost of the resin at least, and please consider whether you’d be able to offer any compensation for the spoiled work. The resin layer represents the final stage in a long process preparing the wood, paint, doing the painting, leaving it to dry for over a week, and making touch ups prior to the resin stage, so it feels like a lot of time and effort wasted when I feel my work has been let down by the Craft Resin.

I tried Craft Resin for the first time a couple of weeks ago – I mainly use it to embed my polymer clay fish in an art panel painted with acrylic paint and acrylic ink and finished with polymer clay fronds and painted pebbles.

The resin was clear, bubble free and gave a great surface. I painted the outside of the panel with black acrylic paint primer and then coated it with Craft Resin. This gave a mottled effect so it must have reacted to something in the primer – however it gave a great water dappled effect so I wasn’t bothered.

However, I’ll need to find out what went wrong before using it as a final ‘varnish’ on any other work I do with acrylic paint/texture paste. I always varnish my pieces first before encasing them in resin so I should have probably done that on the surround.

The resin works really well, it sets clear with no scent. I have had some cheaper brands (only by a few pounds) but this is my favourite, it has the least bubbles which make my life a lot easier. My only issue is that due to the large neck of the container it’s difficult to pour, and I’m trying to avoid using a something to scoop it the resin as I don’t want to contaminate it.

I would be good if they came with something to attach to the neck of the bottle the make them easier to pour. I also like that it become cheap when you buy more, this will be good for the future if I stick with resin crafts/art.

Overall great product, would recommend. 9/10.

I used to use FIMO and Sculpey. No more. Why? My hands would get so sore kneading it to make it workable. This is easy- I use a scale to make sure I have equal parts-then mix for two minutes. This is water soluble, which stays workable for hours.

It slowly dries. You can be strategic and wait a bit if you want it to be stiffer. It attahces to ANYTHING> I use wire, foam, and tape. MAn it holds. After drying (12-24 hours) it is waterproof! I sand, drill and paint it, and get great results.

I love this stuff. I use it alone or as embellishments. I was a ‘traditional’ clay potter for many years – then life happened and I didn’t have room for all the equipment you need for traditional clay.

I wandered around exploring different art forms and then I found Apoxie Sculpt. don’t need a bunch of equipment, I can use acrylic paint and sealer. it’s great! There is a learning curve [mostly figuring out it sticks to everything, doesn’t come out of clothes AND.

hint. don’t wash the wet Apoxie Sculpt off your hands in sink or you’ll have a permanent clog-fortunately I didn’t do this]. Great stuff!.

I’ve used Sculpey and Fimo for twenty years, and will never go back. Why? You don’t need to soften it. It is water soluble. You don’t need to bake it. You can easily send it, add to it, add dry to soft, and it takes paint well.

It’s incredibly strong when dry and waterproof. Downside? It takes a while to dry. I get around that by doing multiple projects. After 4 hours it firms up, which is good to bend larger parts or add smaller details.

It’s about as hard as it’ll get in ten hours. You can sand it, add more detail or paint it. Great product. The price works out about the same. I use wire armatures, tape, styrofoam, wood, beads, shells and other items.

If sticks to anything. Get some good tools, since you should wear latex gloves when working with it ( it’ll stick to your hands).

i purchased this for my wife who needed adjustable shelf heights to store her cooking pots. this one was the proper size for the area we had available to place one. the coating will be nice for later date when this will be utilized in our garage when its built.

very happy with the unit and would not hesitate to purchase another in the future.

My kids break too many things. I have repaired toys, Christmas ornaments, cell phone cases, furniture, handheld mirrors, and even new masks they decided to rip the elastic off of. This glue is the best! So much better than using crazy glue, which didn’t always last or do the job.

This glue seems to work on just about anything. Love it! I highly suggest it. I cannot believe how many little things I have repaired within the past year that I other wise would have thrown out.

With a 30 minute setup time , i don’t have to be in a hurry to apply it. This causes my work to be more neat. When i finish applying the epoxy I set my timer for 1 hour. I give it extra time to setup.

I use epoxy for bonding fiberglass surfaces together. After the epoxy has setup , i will add fiberglass mat & polyester resin to the fiberglass surfaces ( for extra strength ).

Has the advantage of being slow cure of giving one lots of time to clamp the job up. Glue goes very runny first of all when heated whit a hair dryer. The glue chart does not recommend its use on rubber or ceramics.

I have stuck broken chine with it and its seems to bond well. Being slow cure one can take ones time mixing it well.

I called the company and told the what I needed, a low viscosity epoxy that will flow into small crevices and cracks in wood. This is what was recommended. Well, it flows like cold honey. If I am able to get it down into the cracks it works just fine but getting it deep into these cracks is a challenge.

Good value, works well – no stringy like some, sets in approx. time and clear. According to manufacturer and batch code was manufactured approx. late Oct 2016 – but they quoted me on an email “Please note our super glue products do not have an expiration date, if stored properly you can use until empty.

” – I’ll not make any comment on that statement but only had less than a week so far – but I like this stuff and it is easy to use too – it is easy to mix and seems to work well so far! Much better/easier that ‘tubes’ and much less effort than syringes.

If you regularly use adhesive like this would recommend. I got similar ‘bottles’/quantity from a well know UK Supplier, but now no longer deals on-line, in 2012 – only used less than 1/2 and now gone off – but well worth the money for close to 5 years of simple to use stuff I can trust.

Comparable with a similar Devcon product. Reliable, mixes easily and cures quickly. Useful for repairs and hobby use. Recommended.

I’m a pro restorer and use this frequently. Excellent for chair repairs and anything where you have small gaps. It can also be thickened with West 403 micro fibres

This is the absolute WORST resin I’ve ever bought. I’ve worked with several types, I do know what I’m doing but this was just a disaster. It never fully set right. It’s been 3 days. My casts are still tacky in the molds….

I have a really good feeling I lost ALOT of materials on this. I am very disappointed and will not be buying this brand again. If you care about your projects- you probably shouldn’t either.
