20 Best Electronic Ear Plugs For Shooting (2023 Updated)

I’ve had these for the last year and wanted to sincerely put em though the gamut. I pretty much lived in them for 8 months at a time. They are very comfortable to wear and very durable. When shooting outside I liked them the best.

I could still hear others speak while others were shooting around me. Indoors not so much. Battery life is good, 3 sets of batteries using them 3 days a week @ 8 months. The Bluetooth is a great addition.

I can carry a conversation over Bluetooth when shooting and the person on the other end doesn’t know I’m at the range, unless I tell em. I definitely will buy them again. If they ever die on me!!.

I had a hearing scare in summer 2021 where I almost lost 50db in my right ear. I spend 15-20 hours in the studio per week and sometimes don’t have as much time for breaks with my schedule as I’d like.

These slides are a game changer – I can do all the heavy lifting with them in and then quietly do mixdowns and mastering to polish everything up towards the end of each project. The higher setting is great for normal use, then for live events I slide them all the way down so I can still enjoy the music (and hear conversations) without destroying my ears.

Really convenient to be able to switch between quieter and louder, and only having two settings is actually preferable to more complicated ones that have many db ranges. Thanks for the awesome product!.

I bought these for my boyfriend, I’ve only used them occasionally but I love them. I plan to buy myself a pair. The slide design is incredibly simple (and genius) and truly blocks out an amazing amount of sound on the higher level but you can still hear others talk on the lower lever which is nice so you aren’t shouting at them by accident.

I have previously bought and use the high fidelity earplugs (clear) for airplane trips, chain saw work, long car trips, etc. and am happy with them but they hurt my ears after an hour or so. I think the slide ear plugs are more comfortable, I can wear them for longer periods of time, and for a wider variety of situations because of the slide settings.

I’m not a fan of loud noises in general and like to block out the world when I study and these are a good option for that too. My bf uses them at his engineering/manufacturing job on the floor and for yard work, so far, and loves them as well.

Plus they look great in your ear and discrete. Great product.

I believe either the other reviewer has breathed too many gun fumes or its the 4 years since gone past. I have replaced both and older pro and sport model with the new bolts. much better cancellation and definitely better sound quality.

the only issue. as with all Leight, is the ear pads. as soon as you can replace them with either Noise fighters or preferably Valholl.

Product works superbly well. The noise cancelling technology is flawless. Normal volume sounds such as conversations are clear and crisp; loud noises such as gunshots are effectively muted. My wife normally wears hearing aids, but this technology is so effective she does not need them when wearing these muffs.

Highly recommend them.

So I dont use my Leights for shooting, I use them for site work. nail guns etc so my review isnt going to be much help to some people – sorry Comfort > snug, comfy but possibly a little too much pressure across the top of your ears.

overall pretty satisfied Effectiveness > its is amazing how these things take all the sting out of a nail gun being shot. All you hear if the guns air release hiss but almost zero bang! Downsides are that if amplifies a lot of sounds you dont want to hear ie you can hear truck reversing alarms from 100m away and trees, wind rustling and also the compressor charging are louder.

much louder! If youve got music playing in the background youll need to turn it right down if these are on 🙂 Value > Ive tried these for a few weeks and sadly Ive not noticed much difference between the bolts and the regular impacts.

theyre both noticeably better than lof leights. These are the best of the best and if like me you want the best youll buy them over the regular impact. At the same time i dont think youd be disappointed with older version or the lofs 🙂 hope this was useful and sorry if it wasnt.

I usually use ear muff kinda ear protection. I also use the foamy stick in your ear things but these have their place also. The ones that go in my ears irritate after a while. The muff kind get in the way with a rifle.

The Quiet Band are great. Easy on and off don’t even know they are there and worked on my last prairie dog hunt. Now nothing is perfect. I wear them around the back of my neck so I can wear a wide brim hat.

They do transmit noise from rubbing on your collar. Other than that they are great. Would I buy them again. Well I found them in a pack of ten and ordered them.

great ear pods I even got a pair for my wife. she likes them I got replacment pods for mine they work great. bin using them for years. they save your hearing.

This is my first reusable type of hearing protection. I’ve used the foam “one time” type that you jam into your ears then throw them away when your done. I like the idea of using them again. Since I’ve retired, I have been enjoying target shooting with some large caliber pistols.

The Howard Leight product works quite well for me. I shoot under a roof so the sound is amplified somewhat from shooting out in the open. I’m not a pro or user of many types of ear protection but, like I said they work quite well for me.

No ringing ears when I’m done shooting.

I have enjoyed two years of use with the 500 headset. I use it only for shooting, and it stays in my range bag. So, use is not frequent, but steady. It took me a while to understand that Bluetooth volume is controlled by the media device, and headset volume by the controls on the headset.

These are independent for good reason. You can adjust ambient noise level, and keep your Bluetooth device at a volume that doesn’t interfere. The best feature is the seal of the ear cups. They are comfortable and seal very tightly.

Even with shooting glasses, I hear very little noise coming through the seals. They are conformal and soft and very, very comfortable. This is what mystifies me the most, though: With so much comfort on the ear seals, the headband is horribly uncomfortable.

Unless you’re donning a hat at the range, the hard rubber head band really digs into the scalp. Sadly, there aren’t many aftermarket accessories to remedy this. All in all, these are the best headsets I’ve used in 30 years as a shooter for my job, for sport, and for competition.

I love them.

I was hesitant to purchase this product because I felt it was overpriced. Nevertheless, I took a chance because I needed an electronic hearing protector device for the gun range. So, due to the fact that the 3-M Company name was associated with this product, I took a chance.

Sadly, I’m rather disappointed. While it does block out higher decibel gunshots at the range, the sound through the audio input is very distorted, and of poor fidelity. I’ve tried the audio input on a number of electronic devices, including my home stereo, which is a very high-end model, but the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protector still performed very poorly.

Secondly–and of equal, or greater, importance–after wearing the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protector for approximately one (1) hour, it felt as though my head was in a huge vise. The Manual states: “Fully extend sliders and place cups over ears.

Then, tighten headband using sliders. ” Unless I’m totally missing something, the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protector is NOT adjustable. Simply put, I do not see how the sliders can be adjusted.

It appears as though the sliders are held in place by two (2) Phillips head screws on each side. I’m very mechanically and technically competent, so I don’t believe I’ve overlooked anything. And I don’t want to over-stress the so-called “sliders.

” I just don’t believe that these “sliders” actually slide. I’m disappointed with the sparse Owner’s Manual, the poor quality of the audio sound through an audio cable (I’ve even tried three [3] additional audio cables, to no avail), the non-adjustable “sliders,” and the overall cheapness of the Unit.

I’m going to be returning the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protector Unit to Amazon—and none too soon. C’mon Amazon, let’s stop marketing and selling inferior products, and let’s quit teaming with companies that “hawk their wares” through your company.

I truly believe that you can sell a much, much better Electronic Hearing Protector than the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protector. Disappointed in the Heart of Dixie.

I bought the Peltor 300 product a month ago and have been using them every week. I chose the 300 unit over the 500 because I have no need for Bluetooth capability. I did have some difficulty figuring out the settings, but once I did, they worked well.

I do have to agree somewhat with Codger’s review (below) in that they don’t seem to give as much noise reduction as I expected. Indoors shooting 9mm handguns in training classes, the noise did not seem much reduced.

At the lowest setting, the gun noise was okay but voices were a little difficult to understand. However, during a carbine class I found that the noise of the 5. 56mm short barreled guns was very effectively reduced.

The hearing protectors seem more effective as the noise level increases. All in all, I think they work pretty well and I would recommend this product highly.

I purchased the tactical 300s about two months ago. Most recently I used them on a Firearms Instructor Course involving 12+ hour days over two weeks, firing thousands of rounds a day. Throughout the week I only had to change batteries once despite having the unit turned on all day every day.

We were on an outdoor range at a repurposed gravel pit and shot outside rain or shine. There were a few days of heavy rain. The rain or gravel didn’t affect them at all. Voice was clear and hearing protection was great through 9mm, 5.

56, 12 gauge and. 308 fire. My only criticism is sometimes if bumped around while turned off you sometimes need to open the battery door and move the batteries slightly to get the unit to power on. Other than that one small issue, they are great.

Non-electronic hearing protection very good. Amplification of ambient noise almost as good, in some ways better, than a unit I paid 3 times as much for 30 years ago. The negative issue for me is the reduction in gunshot volume when the electronics are active.

It’s simply inadequate. I’m not sure what the decibel level is, but less than 80 db is what we should be getting. I couldn’t find any specifications for actual active sound reduction. I shouldn’t have ringing ears after a few rounds of 9mm in the great outdoors (minimum volume setting).

I had issues accessing the setup menu. I did finally manage to do so. Turning Dynamic Suppression off actually eliminated echos and some other issues when firing a pistol. Which isn’t what’s supposed to happen.

Sound level reduction is still inadequate. Would I recommend the product? Depends upon the intended use. I can’t picture using this product for a match or other extended shooting session involving other shooters.

Qualified yes. One of the reasons I purchased this product is my experience with your prescription protective safety glasses. They’re outstanding. Unfortunately, this is less so.

Product works great but the skull screw tips destroy the mounting post, making the product useless when you try to replace the tips. By the time you learn this (3 months), the return window has expired.

Had this product for almost a year and still impressed with it. Been through many training experiences and staid in my head the whole time while running and gunning.

These earplugs are pretty good at noise reduction and if you sleep on your back. I bought these to rest peacefully in my home that has a recording studio so things get pretty loud. The earplugs stick way too far out of your ear canals making it impossible to lay on your sides.

Unless you have super deep ear canals, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend these. Decent product but not at all useful for what I need them for.

I have tried too many different earplugs without finding the ones that will fit my ear AND work. Im done with my search. These are the best and they are amazing. They block out the noise extremely well.

These in ear plugs seal really well, and offer a considerable amount of dB protection. They deaden sound more that the disposable foam in ear plugs. Perfect for going under your over the ear, or use them by themselves.

I have used them during a bullseye shoot at an indoor range and they did great. I was really impressed with these.

Without some modification, I would not recommend this for use with firearms. As it comes, the portion that fits in your ears does not sill off sound nearly well enough and there is a hole in the middle that goes into a tube that allows almost all sound in.

I had to fill that hole with small expanding ear plugs in order to make the noise suppression adequate for the gun range. The only saving grace for these is the compact size. The size makes it easier to shoot a rifle or a shotgun from the shoulder.

I admit, I was a skeptic, but they were cheap enough to gamble on. I needed something that wouldn’t hit the stock of my target rifle, I saw these and gave them a try. To my amazement, I was able to hear people around me yet not be deafened by the shotgun in the next lane! I zeroed my new scope and shot concise tight grouping while this shotgun roared next to me! Well worth the money I paid for them.

I’m going to get another pair as a backup.

I really like this hearing protection. It cuts down interference with the stock of rifles and shotguns. They fit covering the ear cannel and are comfortable. I put silicon buds on one pair I own and I like that even better.

The problem is that you have to move one ear cover to talk and listen to anyone. That makes it hard in teaching situations.

I’ve been using these for about a month in both indoor range and outdoor range situations. Under a shade structure shooting the AR with a muzzle brake, they are not as quiet as Leight Import Sports I have but adequate to shoot for an hour or so.

This fine as the battery life seems to be about 2 hours. I’m unsure if the batteries last longer on the lower setting. Outside, it may be difficult to hear the beeps telling you they are on and with wind, they become a bit distracting the voice amplification is compromised.

I’d give them a 4 on comfort and a three on functionality. Indoor, I find them to be inadequate with anything more than pistol fire but I might be more critical than others. Indoors at our local range which is 10 lane wide by 75 feet, wear foam plugs under Leight Impact sports so I can maximize noise reduction but still hear range commands when myself or others are shooting rifles.

Very comfortable, much easier to get cheekweld, not great in wind, short battery life.

Very nice set of earplugs; appreciate it that it is recharged by 3-AA cells or mini-usb; new ear plugs offer a built in rechargeable batter in the case, which is not replaceable down the road requiring the own to gather purchase a new case (very expensive_ or a new set (even more expensive); being able to simply use AA batteries extends the life of the product considerably making these earplugs my top choice.

Further, with the right ear-tips, this unit gives exceptional ear protection, much better than most of the other electronic earplugs on the market.

I got these as a reward while teaching firearms at a federal law enforcement academy. I absolutely love them. I’ve used them on the range and in the field and they work great.

The price caught my eye. Figured at that price for one pair they must be good. The assembly is a learning curve. Thats the first thing you must get right. After you made sure that you got the right size for your ear canal.

They only come in one size and come with an extra set of tips. The best thing you will notice with these are just how comfortable they are. You can sleep in them if you needed to. They stay in place well once incerted correctly.

If not they can cause pain putting them in. You must sqeeze them down before putting them in. Then hold them in place to allow them to form to your ear canal. They are designed to fit the ear and go deep inside.

They are very soft and squishy. The carrying case is nice to store them in. The quality seems nice and they do offer ear protection. I dont like how they claim to offer 30db of noise reduction. There is no way.

Maybe 20 at most. I can still hear a normal conversation in a quiet room. Not reccomended for hunting or gun range. But do work well when comboed with over head muffs. Wish they offered better db protection for gun range.

Thats why I gave such a low score.

Product was purchased as a last-ditch effort to control my frequent, debilitating migraines. I have an incredibly low tolerance for loud noise – often what is not loud to others feels like a jackhammer in my head.

As I am an educator, I required a product that would filter noise but still allow me to talk to my students & colleagues, whilst being inconspicuous. Frankly – these earbuds are amazing. Hearing silence for the first time in 2 years brought me to tears; the earbuds allow me to remain at work and function.

In the midst of an attack they can be worn whilst asleep with no discomfort. When the caps are open, conversations are clearly heard and communication is not impeded. The fit is extremely comfortable allowing them to be worn for an extended period of time (3+ hours) with no detrimental affects.

I have since recommended these to several people and raved about their effectiveness. I am always extremely dubious of reviews – but I can honestly and unfalteringly state that these earbuds are worth purchasing.

Love the SureFire EP10 hearing protection for shooting. These are much better than over the ear protection when shooting a rifle as the over the ear can get in the way of the stock. They are lightweight, easy to carry in my pocket and don’t take up much room for storage.

The only negative on these is the foam inserts. I prefer the ones without the foam inserts but that is just my preference.

These have come why to late in life for me , I’m 40 and have already done irreversible damage to my ears. Mostly I just suffer from tinnitus but it’s not the end of the world and these are really going to be essential for me now when playing music and going to gigs.

I even wear them at home when practicing and wanting to play loud. So far these have been great, I’ve only used the silver filter but they have done an amazing job. You really do get completely clear sound with less volume which is actually really weird when you first try it.

They are very comfortable to wear and have a little key ring case which is great to keep them safe. The build of everything seems pretty solid and professional quality and not as expensive as some others.

I would be a bit worried about wearing them down the front at a gig incase they fell out if I’m bouncing around. Could always rock out at home first to give them a mosh test hough I suppose haha. All in all really pleased this purchased and would recommend them to anyone who is around loud music.

Look after your ears people.

I put these to the test at a Bob Vylan gig last week. Loud angry Punk rock/Grime in a small venue. The perfect place to leave me with ringing and whooshing ears for days. Because they barely dampened the sound I was expecting this to be the case.

But to my surprise the only thing I had was a hangover! This was using the silver filters. A couple of days later and all day indoor event I did have some whooshing but not as bad as the past. I tried the gold filters 2 weeks later at another indoor all day event.

They did reduce the sound somewhat but no ringing of ears the next day 🙌🏻.

I purchased these for my Harley when I ride, but thought they would be useful at the Metallica concert on 08/20/16. Man was I right! I was at the very front on the rail on the right hand side by all the speakers at ground level.

The bass coming out of these speakers was so intense, I don’t know how anybody without earplugs will be able to hear for days to come. These earplugs worked awesome. Even though the music was as loud as I’ve ever heard it, these earplugs passed this test with flying colors.

3 bands played and my ears were not ringing after the concert. I could hear the music and didn’t have that “plugged up” feeling you get from foam or gel earplugs. I cannot say enough great things about the Alpine earplugs.

The baffles or filters can be switched out easily in a matter of seconds. I have gotten 2 of my friends to purchase them based on my opinion. They worked for me and they’ll work for you. I am a US Marine and think someone at Alpine should get in touch with the Marines (and other branches of the military) to get a contract with them, so our Veterans don’t have hearing problems/loss.

Again, these earplugs are AWESOME!!!.

I had similar ear protection when I was younger and they were effective in reducing the noise when I shot. 22 indoors. These look similar but when I used them, they didnt give me the protection I need.

The sound was still too loud.

Ive used these plugs for many years for anything loud. Ive played loud music, and operated all kinds of machinery all my life. I just had my first hearing test at 71, docs were surprised I still had 96% hearing at my age.

Use the Acu-life plugs- they work!.

I have used them for many years. They are super for noise reduction and ability to hear. They only let a normal sound come into your ears. I don’t know anything about the entertaining question.

My mom is an audiologist so I know all too well the importance of protecting your hearing at live events etc. I do a lot of concert photography and videography so I need to be able to protect my ears but it’s also really important that I’m able hear others and the music clearly.

These do a great job of that. They are fairly easy to get in and out. They don’t stand out too much like yellow foam ones which is nice. That being said they only have a 20db attenuation so maybe not suitable for heavy metal shows etc that are 130db.

I have found these to be enough to keep my ears from ringing after most shows though even with peaking at about 120db. For me it’s more about minimizing risk and being able to enjoy the music yet rather than completely eliminating it.

Definitely recommend picking up a pair of these if you go to live shows at all!.

Best earplugs I’ve had up to date. If I lose them, I will definitely get them again. As a musician, these earplugs are perfect for concerts, jamming, and several other loud occasions you can think of.

The quality of the music does not get compromised with reduced volume unlike other earplugs, as compared to the cheap standard foam earplugs we usually wear. I never thought I could get an earplug that would sound this good as well as protecting my hearing at the same time.

It’s definitely made me looked at earplugs differently now. They say it feels better without protection, but I beg to differ. You can still have fun and feel good at the same time with protection.

I used them for the 1st time last week. We were attending the 1st indoor event I have gone to in over 18 months. The show was much more enjoyable & I could still have a conversation w/no adverse noise.

As a player or listener, these filters are the answer. Unobtrusive & lightweight, they are easy to wear & carry. Extremely easy to put in & take out. All in all an excellent value for distortion lowered listening.

I searched for earmuffs for days before deciding on this pair. These were more expensive than most I looked at, but I thought the comfort would be well worth it. Leather cups etc. but I was wrong. They look very nice, but inside earmuff is light foam and that’s it.

Then you have the very very tight seal from the cups to provide noise reduction. They hurt, first of all. I don’t have a large head, I am female. Second, I could still hear my dog crunching her food in the next room! For studying in an apartment these were not good.

there great you are protected with these muffs you cannot hardly here the rifle or shotgun. I take to the range quit a bit. besides i like the skulls on it. oh yes it works good with my pistols. next week iam trap and skeet shooting.

I needed new earmuffs so decided to give these a try. Have not had a chance to use them on the range yet, but am happy with the look and feel of these new earmuffs. I like having the camo pattern blended with some pink to give it just a bit of the feminine touch.

And the padded headband provides comfort. Earmuffs go firmly over my ears for a snug fit.
