This kit gets great reviews for the most part and I was quite disappointed to find what I actually got. Guitar Center where I purchased it did not have any floor models set up so I just bought it to give it a try, since it could be returned within 14 days, although there was a “15% restocking fee(about $57.

)” The drums themselves are quite small and nothing at all like an acoustic drum kit in placement or radius so for anyone over 5′ 5″ this is a difficult kit to be scrunched up behind. I’m 6′ 1″ and can say a teenager or other beginner of smaller stature is who this would be best suited for.

Onto the sounds themselves, out of about 40 different kit options most are quite cheesy and primitive in technological advancement, I’m thinking 1991 is a generous time frame for their level of real drum-mimicking sound quality.

I did find a couple of electro/industrial type sounds I liked. Next, the volume through headphones is quite limited. I listen to music on my earbuds at a louder volume than this is capable of! Next, the rims of the snare and toms are so deep and protruding that they’re nearly impossibly not to hit when you’re working with such tiny drums.

All this aside, I would have kept this kit as a practice tool in my apartment for when I can’t get to the rehearsal space as often as I like if it weren’t for it DISPRUPTING AND AGGRAVATING MY NEIGHBORS!?! Now keep in mind I only used it through headphones so no amplification was involved.

Even so, the sheer impact of the kick drum getting the rubber kick pad apparently “shook the pictures” of the walls of a neighbor in my building not even directly under or next to me!! I got two complaints from two different neighbors in one week, saying it sounded like I was pounding on the floor.

Keep in mind, they can’t hear the other drums so it doesn’t even sound like beats, just annoying home improvement but daily and erratic. I tried reinforcing the kick pedal, adding another layer of carpet under it – nothing helped.

I bought one of these for my father-in-law for Christmas and it was the perfect gift for him. He’s always wanted to learn drums and for the price I paid it’s good value. I have a Roland TD10k set with a few upgrades I made over the past 7 years, such as all mesh 2-zone heads and a TD-25 module.

This is not that. Let’s get that straight: It doesn’t match Roland in any tangible way. The Roland is highly customizable, with every aspect of the kit able to be dialed-in to get the optimal experience.

This is more “you get what you get” in sound and features. It has a stable of presets, which can be somewhat dialed-in but you’re not adjusting zone area/sensitivity, it’s pretty much velocity and amount of reverb.

The listening experience is iffy. My father-in-law tried his Bose QC30s which were barely audible with barely any kick, the snare and toms sounded distant and the cymbals were present but distorted. Yuck in my ears.

Swapping them out for my Sony MDR-7506 changed the game, with a much more natural sounding experience. Switching to my Slate VSX was an even more satisfying e-kit monitoring experience, with punchy bass, full toms and a cracking snare.

Playing this kit through a drum monitor is ok, but it really was at optimum when played over my PA system with two 12″ full range and an 18″ sub. I realize not everybody has this but once you try it it’s hard to go back.

Jamming along to practice tracks through an IPad was a lot clearer this was than through the kit’s AUX patch. The module includes its own practice tracks which is useful if you don’t have a phone/iPad/computer or still live in 1997.

The kit is smaller than the Roland, especially it’s height. I’m 6’2″ and couldn’t REALLY adjust it tall or wide enough for my comfort. My father-in-law is 5’9″ and it’s suitable to him. It’s durable enough, the mesh heads will last forever, I know that.

The frame is solid and sturdy enough but only just. A good practice kit for people looking to keep their chops on a budget.

This kit is miles better than the nitro mesh for several reasons. The first is the 10” snare which may not seem like much from the 8” that the nitro mesh has but trust me, it alone is worth it. Not only that, the rest of the toms is dual zone which allows for rim shots.

The kick is also much larger allowing you to install a double kick pedal with no issues. The cymbals can also all be choked. The stand feels much more premium and sturdy. It also sits higher than the nitro mesh.

The only thing that is left to be desired is, a better drum module. It is essentially the same as the nitro mesh. The sounds of the drums arent bad but they are not good either. A simple fix if you have ez drummer or whatever on pc.

Or you could upgrade the module to a better one later down the line. All in all, i am absolutely satisfied with this kit and for another 170$ on top of the nitro mesh, it is absolutely worth it.

I purchase this because this is one of the best e-drum under 500, here are the pros. The pads are very responsive and able to use a double kick drum The size of the pads are the best among this price point and the module functions are more than enough However the sound from this module is a little bit weird tho.

If you want better sound, it better stick with Roland or just upgrade the module later on. Most people compare this with the Roland TD-1DMK I think the surge mesh kit is still the clear winner since it can adjust the sound individually.

Also it is able to add 2 additional pads and I assigned them as crash2 and China cymbal. The Roland one can’t let you adjust the sound kit at all. I will recommend this one to all beginners but remember, only if your budget is a back on your neck.

If you get a little more budget, just went straight to the TD7DMK from Roland. It get all the bell and whistles from surge, but with a better sound.

this is a FABULOUS item!!! i decided to take a chance on it because of the relatively low cost. and hoped it would be something my husband would enjoy. OMG!! he adores it, and it works brilliantly. it’s hard to believe something like this hasn’t been invented before, but kudos to the inventor.

it’s small and rolls up into even less; it uses headphones, so noise doesn’t bother anyone; it’s realistic. everything a drummer could want in a quick and portable drum kit. thanks for offering it and at a splendid price!!!.

Pro – Good with the headphones so you can use it and not disturb others. Cons – Sometimes it cuts out and is not accurate on which drum symbol you have hit.

Our son has had a drum set since he was 3 years old. He is now 10. We have slowly lost both our hearing and our sanity but our son absolutely loves drumming. While at a Scottish festival when he was 3, a drummer came off stage and handed him a drumstick, and there has been no going back.

That said, the big bulky drum sets that have occupied his room have made things difficult as we added in a little brother to his room and moved into a 1,000 square foot house. They get pushed into a closet so that they have room to play and oftentimes there isn’t enough room to break them out.

Our son hasn’t been able to drum as much the last couple of years and has really missed it. These drums have been an AMAZING solution to this problem! These drums take up so little space and are easy to use.

They can easily be put away on a shelf and taken out anytime he wants to use them. He can use them anywhere – on the kitchen table or couch or his bed. even in the car! I am seriously kicking myself for not buying these for him many years ago! They work just as well as you’d expect and they sound really good for an entry level drum kit (kind of a comparison between a normal piano and keyboard).

Overall we are seriously just so happy with this drum kit and we will absolutely be purchasing another one when he’s finally worn this one out. Absolutely 5 stars and highly recommended for those who love drumming, but are in a small space or would like a portable kit!.

This drum set is a total disappointment. The overall kit is very small. So small that the Tom’s and cymbals are all squeezed together so tight it’s had to play. The pedals are very hard to use. They are made in a way that makes them slide around the floor.

I’m really not sure why AMS is even selling such junk. I read reviews on here saying it was small but ordered anyway. Don’t make the mistake I did.

1). There is no way to change the volume of individual components. As a result, the hi hat was too quiet. 2). The pedals are much too sensitive and sometimes cause single strokes to become doubles or triples.

3). The actual size of the kit is too small. Good for a kids set but definitely not meant for adults.

I bought this set expecting it to be adjustable for an adult beginner. Unfortunately, both the packaging, and the general description didn’t give me a lot to go on whether this set was specific for kids, or otherwise.

Other than the kick pedal being way too sensitive, it could’ve been a great starter set for a child. I plan on donating it to someplace that deals with children who are targets of abuse and harassment (bullying) at school, and then I intend to replace it with a set that is more for an adult beginner when I can afford one.

Bought this for my teenage daughter, she loves it, great introduction to drumming. Mesh pads are excellent very responsive, cymbals are good, hi hat not so good, miss fires a lot. Hi hat pedal not very responsive, kick pedal miss fires a lot aswell.

Wish we’d gone for the next model up which has proper pedals. All in all though for £200 it’s great value for the younger drummer, well worth it.

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson. While we haven’t gotten to the point of actual drumming, he had really enjoyed the sounds and interaction. Enough to keep him engaged but not to many things to distract him.

The bass drum pedal is a little stiff/cumbersome, but nothing that would stop me from buying this again.

It’s really important to learn to keep rhythm on the high hat and snare before learn alot of drum fills. I am still learning the drums, but I have found out when I try to show a child how to keep a basic beat, they are more interested in hitting the other drums and cymbals.

As a mom of several kids and a busy often loud house, I kind of inward groaned when my son asked for a drum set. This product came to my salvation! He puts his head phones on and can play all he wants and I don’t have to hear a thing!.

My son loves the drums and we love the small amount of space that they take up. If you are just using the drums then it’s a great purchase. The headphone jack and headphones aren’t good quality though.

There is a tremendous amount of static when the headphones are plugged into the jack. The volume of the drums is so low when the headphones are in use that you can’t really hear the drums. We haven’t attempted the function where you can play your iPhone or MP3 because the jack has so much static.

Also, the headphones are very flimsy and you can’t really position them near enough your mouth to project any volume. As I said in the beginning, great for just drumming.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 19 month old nephew. So far, after almost a month, I can tell you he is still fascinated by it. He has played it every day and his parents love it because they can control the volume and it helps them keep track of his whereabouts.

In other words, they know he’s not getting into mischief. All in all, I can tell you it was a perfect gift.

Received this drum set yesterday and put it together last night. It was easy for a granny to do. Part of the time I had the entire set on my lap during construction. The set is light weight and is made of plastic and the drum skins are a thick decorated cardboard.

I got the set for my 2 year old granddaughter to have for entertainment when she comes to visit me. The recommendations are for a three year old but my granddaughter is very tall for her age and usually plays with toys geared to an older child.

The stool is about 10 inches high with a circular base that is 9 inches on the bottom and has an 8 inch seat. It looks like it would be difficult to tip over. The drum set itself is about 26 inches from floor to the top of the knob on the cymbal.

From the edge of one snare drum to the other is also about 26 inches. The entire set I measured at 9 inches deep. This will not take much storage space and you can easily pick up in one hand. The set has a lot of different colors which should attract a child’s attention.

It also comes with 2 drumsticks. I played with the set myself after installing the batteries (3 double AA). It was fun to press the buttons for the different sounds and I played If Your Happy. There is a selection of 10 songs which I wasn’t familiar with all of them.

I may not have had the snare drums connected correctly as I could not get a sound from them other than the drumstick hitting the top. It did not make the “dong dong” sound it is supposed to. The instructions seem to be complete but I think maybe I need to tinker with it a bit longer.

The only noise I could get from the microphone was air when I blew in it. The “whew, whew” noise when I blew seemed to come from the base drum but there is actually a speaker vent on the left side of the base drum.

Maybe more practice is needed for me to understand since I am electronically challenged. I think my granddaughter will have loads of fun with this since she loves to sing and dance. It is a good alternative to giving your kid a set of drums that will drive you crazy as this set also has a volume control.

I checked on the Walmart website and found the price a little high. It seems to me it should be priced about $10 cheaper. As far as age limits on this toy drum set, I think some 2year olds could enjoy this but I can’t see anyone past the age of four as it is a small set geared to a small child.

There are no really small parts unless your child could dismantle the sections with knobs. Even the battery compartment has a cover which you must use a screw driver to open it.

My 4-year old grandson loves this drum set. It is exactly what I hoped it would be for his age. Easy to assemble, stool is right height for him, sounds like a real drum. Only slight issue was microphone sounds a bit staticky when he sings, but could be because his sings too close to it.

My daughter says he has never loved a gift as much as this one, however, THEY feel a bit differently about the drum set, especially with Stay at Home order.

Sounds good. Fun to play. The bass pedal moves around a bit. But it’s not a huge issue.It is nice to have Drum Throne and Headphones included.

Just set this up yesterday. Great sound and quality for me as a beginner. Looking forward to spending a lot of time on it.

Bought this as a gift. The drum spacing for the pad seemed too close and sometimes not as responsive as hoped. The cable to plug in via USB is too short. They lost interest in the drum pad fast, but luckily there’s a 45-day return policy.

I purchased this for my 3 year old grand to practice on before I purchase a real drum set. It’s portable and he takes it everywhere home and church. Great purchase

The only thing I will say that’s bad about this product is, if you’re going from the 1/4 in out to record it, the ride cymbal sounds completely electronic and distorts. However, if you go in USB to Cubase which I’m using, the VST that comes stock with Cubase elevates that issue.

The pedals are very sensitive and I was told you can use the drum pedals from Rockband for a better feel, though I have yet to do so. I recently composed a couple songs for myself as well as a score for a friends movie and the results were excellent, as it is touch sensitive.

Because of which, it lets you get a certain degree of dynamic velocity. Keep in mind, I am not a drummer. I actually learned how to play on this product and my daughter is also learning on this machine.

(I’m learning faster as I’ve been a musician for the last 30 years. ) I see myself upgrading in the future, but for now, this piece does rock. A definite 4. 5 out of 5 stars.

m. So the entire purchasing process, from ordering to delivery, was relatively speedy. That’s all I can really speak to right now. I’m still reading the instructions to try and become familiar with the system, which is why I can’t give it a 5-star rating, but a 4-star rating is still pretty good in my book.

This is a pretty good drum kit for the price. It has a nice variety of pre-programmed kits and you can create your own custom kits which is nice. The sound quality is good with one exception (see below).

It works well as a MIDI controller so I’m very pleased with that. There are a couple drawbacks though. There is an annoying “fizzy” noise after every hit, as the sound trails off. This is common in cheaper digital instruments but I was disappointed to find it so prominent in this unit.

Also, the foot pedals are terrible – they are small and very stiff plastic. When you press hard enough to make sure you register a hit it will frequently register as a double hit, and yet if you don’t press it hard it won’t register a hit at all.

It is difficult to find the right touch, and this makes it nearly impossible to keep a steady rhythm going. I’m giving this 4 stars because I think it’s a good value for what I paid, but it’s more like 3 stars in terms of its usefulness.

If I could give it 3. 5 stars that would be about right.

I purchased this kit back in December 2019 along with the Simmons DA50 at Long McQuade (Canada). So far has been serving me really well, I really love it and use to play in Church. At the moment the snare mesh started to break in the corner.

Long McQuade doesn’t sell it, I tried Remo, it doesn’t work and it does feel that Long McQuade don’t care to serve me, I think they no longer sell them or such. So I decided to phone Simmons and I did explained the situation.

First phone call the guy said, I’m sorry but we don’t cheap to Canada, it seems that he didn’t care much, but the call dropped. Since I need the mesh, decided to phone again, second guy, so promptly to help me, then he asked my info and to make short, said that he would cheap the mesh for me for free.

That was awesome, he didn’t know, but I was looking to upgrade my kit, I was looking at Roland TD17, Alesis DM10 MKII, but what I really wanted is the amazing Yamaha DTX8, but price was my issue. With Simmons service, I decided to check on the SD1250.

The reason I did not considered at first, is because only Long McQuade was selling Simmons drums in Canada and they said they don’t have and would order the SD1250. But with a special going on, the discount price did make up for the shipping and import fees, so I’m waiting for my new drum kit.

I am a guitarist who does a lot of finger drumming and programming. I bought these so I could learn to play drums. THE GOOD: Aesthetics are nice, great looking and compact kit. The rack works well and bang for buck seems decent.

Module has pretty good features especially when paired with app. The Bluetooth works great. I like the kick a lot! THE BAD: Inconsistent triggers, dynamics and volume responses , especially with hi-hat.

The snare also has a centered trigger that you can feel with your hand and it creates a super sensitive spot in middle that means much higher volume hit when you strike the middle, so its a little out of balance imo.

All of this can be remedied with good eDrum technique which I dont really have! OVER-ALL – This kit seems to be a good one for price, but I have not had any experience with under $500 kits so no real way to compare.

I have played a $1000 Roland kit that felt way more responsive , but probably to be expected.

Yes, I can play along with the amateur stuff bands play. However, the 21st-century youtube drummers have shown me that I have not improved in decades. What’s a shed? How do I play a herta? The problem for the middle-aged family man with a career is that I don’t have a lot of time and I constantly face the “noise barrier.

” That is, when I play my kit in the basement my children can’t watch TV upstairs and their braces start to shake loose. Yet, I have learned a thing or two about skill development from my (professor) day job, such as the importance of deliberate practice with feedback.

Eureka! What if I got an electronic drum set, and arranged it with the exact ergonomics of my 5 peice?Same heights, angles, and distances (center to center), so my Simmons feels similar to my Gretch.

Using the principle of transfer-appropriate processing, if I develop muscle memory on the Simmons, it should transfer to the Gretch. No, they don’t feel exactly like acoutstic drums. So what. The smaller sizes and altered feel require greater concentration and more precision.

Online reviews criticize the stock sounds. Not important. I’m using it to practice, and may never leave the first preset (“Maple ki”). Finally, it had better be fun. When you still have the attention span of a 9 year old (I am a drummer, right?), there has to be a ‘fun factor’ to motivate the time needed to practice coordination, pocket, and so on.

I’ve never had a metronome, and I can record myself to get the all-important feedback required for deliberate practice. You can “gamify” drum practice. Thus, they are fun to play, and make me want to run over to the set after every you tube video about “the five rudiments that will triple your hand speed” or whatever.

Now I have a shed of my own.
