20 Best Electric Fireplace Insert For Heat (2023 Updated)

We are in an older place with baseboard heating that’s very spendy to use. Our front room is large and insulation not great, so gets cold. Bought this as something to heat the room at a lower cost, without being clunky and in the way.

It works great! It puts out a gradual heat so you don’t go from freezing to sweltering in minutes. Nice behind our decorative fire place grate.

The perfect size for my small fireplace. Looks great, realistic flames and light. Cozy glow. Heats well. I love the choice of flames with or without heat. Convenient to have remote.

We had to stop using our fireplace due to small crack in the chimney. Repairing the crack or lining the chimney would have been very expensive so we purchased the log insert as a temporary solution. It looks very nice but I wish it was a bit brighter so we could see it better when the lights are on in our living room.

Otherwise it is an excellent purchase and will get us through until we have the chimney fixed.

I simply love it. Exactly what I wanted. Creates a very cozy space. I just took it out of the box, set it in place , plugged it in and hit the remote. I do have to make a base for it because my fireplace is in a 1920s house and its an odd size, but I was going to have to do that anyway.

The flame is about as realistic as expected. The embers look real and the heat takes the edge off. I purchased mine for esthetics, so the heat is a bonus.

We are very happy with our electric fireplace! Looks great! It arrived earlier than expected. Simple to install and operate. We haven’t tried the heater part, but really bought it for the ambiance.

Its perfect!! Right size and well made. I have a TV stand so I just took out the bottom shelves. This came with like 2 side panels in brown wood. I’ll just white chalk paint in linen to match. It works beautifully.

First off the fireplace insert came damaged. The damage was small and wouldn’t have been seen once in the console but when you pay that amount there shouldn’t be any damage. Then I was disappointed when I turned it on it became very hot above where the heating unit is.

I felt VERY uncomfortable with that. After speaking to the guy who was going to make the furniture for this insert told me it will eventually ruin the wood wih that kind of heat. So I returned the unit.

Let’s talk about that. I was dealing with one representative and was told they were reviewing it. My return request. Then I got an email saying there might be something wrong with this request?? What?? I had the insert for less than 24 hours.

When I replied to this I was told it was a standard email sent out automatically. OK. Then I had to call several times to inquire about the return. Finally I was told that the representative that I was talking to, who by the way was never there when I needed to find out any information, that she put in for a pickup by FedEx.

Well they never came and by the way they are given the attempts, why say attempts because they never came by. So now I needed to get a return label, which was handled promptly, and take it to FedEx myself.

Needless to say I wasn’t very happy and very disappointed. I did get my full refund which I’m glad was prompt when they received the package. All that being said I wouldn’t recommend this insert, due to the fact of how hot the metal top gets from this heat source.

Our combination fireplace/TV stand fireplace went out. We always loved it in the winter to give off just enough heat to warm us in the TV room. We looked for a replacement at the usual DIY stores but didn’t find the exact measurements.

Saw Electric Fireplaces Direct after an on-line search & they had the exact size we needed. Shipped it to us & we slide it into the opening from the old fireplace & plugged it in & it was ready to go.

Purchased this fireplace insert because cold temperatures were forecasted and ours died las year. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it was the only one that anyone had in stock. It really puts out too much heat at times.

It is designed to only run on 1500 watts. Thermostat only goes as low as 71 degrees. It would be nice if it also ran on 750 watts and thermostat could be set in the 60s. Having said that, it does put out lots of heat.

Flames are a nice feature too. American Furniture Warehouse was nice to work with and staff helped my wife load it. We would buy from American Furniture again.

I tried reaching out to customer service for days now and no one has gotten back to me. This is my last resort. I received my TV stand + the insert separately. The box the TV stand came in was severely damaged, resulting in some of the pieces getting damaged.

The insert was fine. One of the documents was stapled to back of the TV stand, which I didn’t try removing because I think it might damage the wood. The TV stand was relatively easy to put together and the fireplace insert looks good with it.

However, mine fits loosely at the front – I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. Also there is a piece of wood you need to put behind it to secure it. However, mine doesn’t align with the holes in place for it so my insert moves around.

The insert fits too far back for the piece of wood to properly align. I’m not sure if they sent me the whole fireplace insert or if it’s a design flaw. Overall, good product (stand+insert), but I expected better quality.

I’ve gotten a lot of furniture from Ashley’s before and I’ve always been satisfied. But I’m not satisfied with this purchase at all.

I bought one of these less than a year ago and have gone through three replacements. The fireplace will flash an error code and then the heat will shut off. Once that error code starts flashing, the heat will never work again.

This has happened with all three replacements Ashley has sent me. Now, they just want to refund me but that will not work because I bought the TV stand and coffee table that go with this fireplace. The whole reason I bought the set was for this fireplace that will not work.

Now, I will be stuck with furniture and big open hole because Ashley can’t produce a working fireplace. I am extremely frustrated because NO ONE has ever heard of this before, no one can help, no supervisor will get on the line or do any research, no answers at all.

I wish I could trade in everything I bought for a completely different set because I wanted a built in fireplace more than anything. Huge disappointment!.

I got an XLF60 a year ago and LOVE IT! Everyone that has come to my house wants one. It is not loud, even on the highest heat setting, as the other reviewer posted. In fact, it is so quiet that if I do not have the lights on I have almost forgot to turn it off before leaving the house.

Yes, the heater can be ran with no lights. There are several heat settings, as well as, multiple color options and brightness levels, which are a gorgeous ambiance especially at night with the lights off.

The heat comes out from the top of the unit. The unit itself does not get hot so if you place yours lower to the ground like I did mine it will not burn a child or animal. My dogs love laying in front of mine when the season turns cold.

I also ran mine alot last winter and it did not make my electric bill skyrocket either. It was also fairly easy to assemble and install. I say fairly easy to assemble because my husband and I were a little confused at first how to install the glass mirror that goes on the inside but once we figured out you have to unscrew and remove the entire pre-assembled bar at the top the assembly took maybe 10 minutes after that.

Love this fireplace!!! For starters, the flames look so real! I didn’t think an electric fireplace could look this good. I purchased the driftwood and river rock set and I am very happy I did. I was hesitant to spend so much on an electric fireplace when there are so many cheaper options out there but this product has exceeded all of my expectations.

I mainly bought this unit as a supplemental heat source and the heat this thing puts off is AMAZING. Install was easy with a standard 2×6 buildout. I did a lot of research and I still have not found another unit that provides everything this unit does with all the various settings.

The energy saving setting is ideal for me, the lighting/color options are impressive. Shipping was fast, no issues. This was a great experience overall. I’ll definitely be buying again.

The logs are incredible beautiful!!! However, it wasn’t as bright as I wanted so I added orange LED lights with more lava rocks to the floor of the fireplace. Then I added two flame light bulbs, one on each side behind front logs.

Then I added a black board behind the logs on the rear fireplace wall to bring out the flames. The only thing left is to get it hard wired so you don’t see the cord. My Husband gifted me this before Christmas, so to really send it over the top I played Christmas music with a cracking fireplace through the house speakers.

I am so pleased with the results, it is on day and night and makes the the room look and feel so cozy. We live in Florida so I never expect to need the heat.

I have so far been very pleased with our log set! I have had guests over to our home who truly thought it was a gas fireplace at first glance. It puts off a decent amount of heat. It doesn’t warm our entire room, but it’s in an open-concept space, so I wouldn’t except it to.

If I could change anything about it though, I would have then include a crackling sound to it. That additional feature would make it perfect in my opinion! I would definitely recommend this set to anyone considering electric logs.

These electric fireplace logs look awesome! And they fit our large (condemned wood fireplace) opening quite well. The heater works very well (large room with doors that we close, and 8ft ceilings). My only two ‘complaints’ are that it vibrates and is noisy with the heater running but i can not find the source (a lose ‘wood’ piece maybe.

?). And as other reviews have stated, it is not quite bright enough. The ‘fire’ and the wood pieces are too dark. But we kept them anyways and we enjoy them. They definitely looked the most ‘real’ out of the few we tried.

It added some life and energy to our abandoned wood fireplace!.

This is an absolutely adorable portable heater. The heater is red and when turned on it lights up like a fireplace. It is super cute and will look great in any room. Oh he heater has two settings and then a fan setting.

Use the dial on the top of the heater. I leave the heater on my desk in my room and always keep it on low. I don’t keep it running all day, I use it for a few hours then shut it off as it will heat up my room amazingly!! The cord has never gotten hot and the outside of the heater doesn’t get hot either which I love.

Another great feature to this heater is that if it gets knocked over or falls off the table it has a safety heater hung on the bottom and will shut off!! It can’t run if it’s not sitting flat!! The flames and logs inside the display are so realistic it’s unbelievable , I could stare at it for ours!! Over all this is an amazing little heater that quickly heats up any room and adds a nice decor touch as well unlike most boring and ugly heaters!!.

I’ve had this heater for almost six weeks. I have gotten a lot of use out of it, it is very effective for my desk in the corner of our coldest room in our house. Problem is, the “flames” stopped working and I really liked that part of this product.

I can’t figure out if there’s some type of light bulb out or something, but I don’t want to take it apart and risk breaking it altogether. Loved the product, I’m disappointed it didn’t work out as well as I hoped.

This is the perfect heater for my small office. I woke up yesterday to 48° temperatures in New Hampshire. I plugged this unit in, turned it on high, and went about my usual morning routine. Appearance exceeded expectations once desired settings chosen. We selected this fireplace partly as there are 5 “flame speeds” – many electric fires have an unrealistic “fast” speed. This model looks much better with its slower speed.

Adding large glass rocks as well as driftwood surprised us adding more realism. Be prepared to need a good carpenter to construct the frame and facing. This is NOT a simple “hang it on the wall unit”.

But the reward for extra work and cost is much more depth and realism than with most other electric fireplaces.

It is absolutely beautiful! The colors are gorgeous and there are a lot of colors. The flame only has 3 colors. I wish it had more, but that is the only down fall. We get so many compliments. We leave the crystals in it and they are just so pretty and the colors compliment the television above it.

Overall, the product was just like how it was described when we looked it up. It is easy to use and it’s very easy to work when you want it to work. I would say that it isn’t worth the money if it will just constantly break or problems occur, but it is a great piece of technology that changes the way we use fires today.

The product itself is great and I hope you all get a chance to experience the joys and easiness of this product during the winter. You should save up your money though since they are a bit expensive, but it’s worth it for the way it keeps people warm all year long.

Great looking and working fireplace. Box came beat up and looked like it was drop kicked from the top shelf in the warehouse. They large boot prints on the box made it look like it was used as a step ladder.

But the manufacturer assumed this to be the case as it came very well packed with thick solid foam packing. Not a scratch or dent was found on the fireplace unit and was in perfect condition. The cable going to the control is proprietary so no using the previous power controls from an old one.

The ends of the cable are also proprietary so cutting it short if you only need a few feet isnt an option. On the 240v version the transformer to step down the power for the fire light effect is noticable but not loud.

The light effect is nice and the heat output seems on par for a 240v unit. The instructions specify 12/3 on a 15amp breaker and use 14 gauge wire out of the side. 14/3 should have been more than able to handle the 12amps max this thing pulls.

So it was kinda a waste of money going the 12/3 Romex route. Overall it was easy to install, give yourself a little wiggle room in the framing. The wires come in from the side and make it difficult to shimmy the unit in with wires sticking out the side.

It would be nice if rear our side access was provided for wiring the unit.

Our insert arrived on schedule. easy opening and easy set up. Simple to fit into opening with only a bit of trim needed. Flame colors are delightful and the crystals give it nice a ‘classy’ touch during the day.

Hi there, my wife and I live in a rv less the 400 sq feet. We don’t pay for your power so we like use the fire place to take the chill off. We seen this fire place that heats up to a 1000sq so we payed a little more.

We get a it a couple of weeks now. Great because its still freezing at night. I just want people to know that this fire place only heats a 100. I think are old one was better. So don’t buy one to use for heat, we pay to much for looks.

My wife wanted a fireplace insert. After doing lots of research online, she picked the best one for the best price. She LOVES it. It heats our living room and dinning room wonderfully. She do not like the ones with plastic logs as the logs make the fireplace look fake, but the one we choose has the cut glass, and to us, makes it looks like a propane fireplace.

Not thrilled with this new Dimplex Revillusion. Purchased it to replace a previous 10 yr. old Dimplex. Had to hire someone to attach the plug in cord (which when offered that option I thought it meant it was attached).

It’s just the cord with plug in a bag. The glass came 3 days later and I also had to hire someone to install the glass. It’s not a DIY project unless you are handy with electric and have the tools to install glass front, and wiring expertise.

When the heat is on, it’s a somewhat noisy fireplace. The blowing fan noise, and a subtle low volume whine. Not quiet like our old Dimplex. The temperature controls also make a “beep” sound when you adjust the heat up or down, or turn on the fireplace which is driving our dog crazy.

She thinks it’s the smoke alarm beeping. So I put her in another room when using the controls. The fireplace does push out a lot of heat which is plus. So I’m happy that it heats the room. The logs, grate and flames are pretty.

It’s a nice looking unit when it’s on but thats about all the positive thing I can say about it. Just not what I expected.

Installed this in our master bedroom in a dormer crawl space. Our master sits above our garage and can get colder than the rest of the house in the winter. A vented fireplace was out of the question so we gave this a try.

We purchased the glass door as well. Looks very authentic and heats the bedroom well (about 400 square feet). We are very pleased with the purchase.

The delivery driver was a total ****. Not helpful or kind at all. I inspected the package for damage as you instructed. He left without obtaining my signature. The package however, was in damaged and the fireplace looks incredible.

Order to delivery was easy! Installation could not have been easier. And it looks great! We are getting so many compliments on the look. Love that we can change up the colors of the ambers, logs and flame.

The change in flame speed also changes the look and mood of the fireplace. Going from wood burning FP to electric, I was worried I would miss the crackle and look of a real FP. This one looks so real, I’m glad I made the change.
