20 Best Drone For Gopro Hero 9 (2023 Updated)

BIG MISTAKE OF A PURCHASE. I’m very well versed and tech savvy with audio and video production. I’ve been considering adding a GoPro to my line-up for quite some time to augment videoing live music performances, primarily of my son.

I purchased a GoPro HERO11 Creator Edition at Best Buy on Friday September 16, 2022 after weighing the options for live music performances. I own and use a wide range of great gear from a Sony A7 to my iPhone and a host of other video and audio production gear.

The portability, stability and video quality of the GoPro seemed to make sense to capture more of the action shots I was wanting from the music performances. And, the “Creator Edition” seemed like a great out-of-the-box option.

Ironically, one of the lead sales persons at Best Buy was walking me through the pros and cons of my decision just prior to purchasing. He noted there’s been a lot of complaints about the GoPro 9 and 10 overheating.

This was of great concern, but the write-ups on the 11 mentioned the “Software Update” provided solutions for the overheating issue. I didn’t quite grasp how a software update could correct a hardware problem, but I trusted this to be the case.

WRONG DECISION. I purchased the GoPro HERO11 Creator Edition with the intention of using it with the included Charging Grip. GoPro offered assurances the overheating issues were the result of a software issue and could be remedied with an update, plus not using the camera in a stationary position.

I followed along with the most recent software and kept the GoPro moving while shooting my first concert with the camera in the shade. I was so angry that the camera overheated and shut down about 30 minutes into the performance.

I literally missed recording half of my son’s first performance with his new band at a major festival because the GoPro HERO11 overheated 30 minutes into the performance. UNREAL!!! This is completely unsatisfactory and total bust of a product.

Especially when a modern “action cam” can’t handle 30 minutes of shooting live music in the shade. What a piece of useless overhyped junk!!!! Thanks for the total let-down and waste of money. Worst of all thanks for making miss half of my son’s performance.

THis is a solid product with room for improvement. First, this gives your Hero9 or 10 an external microphone– but the audio on the 9/10 is pretty good, so this doesn’t really improve the quality that much.

But the windscreen helps. WHat really helps this is the shoe mounts and the audio in plug. This enabled me to use my professional wireless microphone, mount the wireless receiver on the shoe mount and have some wireless freedom while getting superb audio.

THe case is solid enough. Probably what stops me from giving this a five star instead of the four, is the accessibility design: You have to unscrew the gopro from whatever mount you’re using to access the battery or the card.

Also, wish they had married this with an external battery solution to give longer life.

I am happy with the unit so far it served my purpose. One critique that I can mention on the unit is that neither the forward facing microphone or the reverse facing microphone are much better than the original go pro microphone at most a 10% improvement over the GoPro original Mic.

I would not have mind paying $20-$30 more for a better set of mics. The main reason for the purchase was to be able to connect an external microphone. Other than that the unit is sturdy enough the mounting ears are also sturdy enough and I like that I can record while powering the unit and it does not interfere with the microphone connection.

The GoPro fits perfectly inside of it and the latch is well built to keep it inside. I have read other people criticize you need to remove it in order to remove the Sim card I find the process very easy and it does not bother me.

I could’ve gone with three stars to be honest but I went into it knowing that the mics for this unit were not that great so for that reason four-star.

I got this for my gopro hero 8 black mainly for my madre who is learning how to use the new technology and I (incorrectly) assumed it would simplify things. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY; DO NOT WASTE YOURS As you will undoubtedly agree with my assessment.

I don’t have a solid review history, i usually only review products that BLOW, this definitely does this. BUT if i wanted something “blown” i would have book a RSVP @ the Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel in Nevada.

The remote is a must-have for moto vlogging. No longer constantly checking the mirror to see if the camera is running or not. Or I was struggling to push the button on the media mod. The only downside is you have to keep your GoPro on to work.

Remote paired easily with GoPro Hero 9. The large button makes it easy to activate camera with gloves on. I used it both mounted on wrist and also mounted directly on the bike frame. Finally I can be assured that the camera is rolling when I want it to.

No more guessing if it is recording or not.

I am a Realtor and photographer and during COVID-19 I see an increased needs for video tour for mine and other colleague’s listings due to the SIP regulations. Plus, I need a new drone to replace my old DJI mavic mini but can’t wait for the new DJI mavic air 2.

In general, I am very satisfied with the poweregg X. The design and build quality are beyond my expectation, it feels like an art product in my hand. It is very easy to transit from a handheld camcorder to a flying drone, which meets my basic requirements for video tour and bird eye view.

It also came with an accessories for tripod attachment but I don’t really use this function myself. The image is very stable even when there is strong wind. The video and image quality is good enough for my advertisement purpose.

The control range is approximately 300 ft and the “return to home” function is very handy, avoid flying the drone out of the range. The battery drains fairly quick when in drone mode, I normally have an extra battery with me and most of the time my job can be done with only one battery.

The waterproof and landing/taking off on water function was not tested but should be fun and will definitely try it next time I go to kayaking.

My boys are bored during these past few months and my 10 years old is into all these technologies gadgets so he said he wanted a drone. We tried to look around and found this one with cool looking and as soon as it came out of the box, I started to love it just by the looks and sturdy shape.

Assembling and instructions are not hard to me. Taking off and landing went really well. The 4K UHD camera, the AI face recognition, stability, and not bad battery time (maybe more functions we need to explore later) are features value for the money cost.

We should try larger range next time. We tried flying it in our backyard, also tried it in ‘remote plane zone’ in the park. It is so much fun and got many attention from walkers. Carrying it around is not a problem either with a perfect travel case.

The Power Egg X was easy to install, with a simple removal of the battery to attach the wings to the Egg. Battery charging was simple for both the Egg and the remote. The remote had a quality and sturdy feel with nice toggles with good grip.

An app download was needed and the drone required a simple firmware update on both the drone and the remote. The camera had great viewing at night that could be seen clearly on my phone. It is nice having the 2 batteries as one can be charged while the other is in use.

The unit has excellent versatility outside of using it as a drone. One important note is to be sure to remove the Gimbal protector or the unit will not fly. The Power Egg X is a lot of fun!.

Good drone but Quality is an issue with the controllers arm to hold your phone. Mine had a little crack on the hinge part when I received it. After the 3rd use the plastic hinge part broke. then they want 240.

00 for a new controller. or send it to them. flat fee of 59. 00 plus cost of whatever they have to do to fix it. I repaired it myself better then what it was and stronger.

So happy i spent that extra $300. 00 to buy the built in monitor as i can now see what i am doing even in bright sunlight! Its 3X brighter than the best phone screen on the market. Also am enjoying the many collision avoidance techniques on board!.

Best drone for the money and has yet to cause any issues. The menu is easy to understand and is great for beginners. Make sure if your getting a drone you get this one! #sweepstakes

The drone has already been used to locate water leaks and to check on kids at the back of the farm in the 3 odd weeks we have had it. The only con so far is the short battery life.

Great for 4K video and photos, fast and can handle windy days. Solid, steady gimbal for smooth video. I like the HDR feature seems to make the colors more natural and balances the light. I like that settings can be customized in the app, usually i like to slow down the yaw rate for smooth turns.

Has a good flight time with built in features that make it fun to fly.

Had this drone for a few weeks now. Flew it about a dozen times. It performs extremely well and video and pictures are great. Maybe not as good as the top drones in the market but close enough even though it costs almost half the price.

Definitely a good buy that performs much better than the price suggests!.

Flies great, high quality photos and video. Long battery life, 3 mile range. Very well constructed.

Nothing automatic about it. Won’t land by itself or follow you. But for pure fly- ability, range, flight time, stability, speed, response to controls — high priced drone sales people should be afraid of this! Hell of a deal with two high capacity batteries, THREE body covers, spare props, 2 speed, chargers and controller– you just can’t beat this! I have bought several drones and some with automatic functions– this tops them all — BY A MILE! I am more than satisfied.

Negatives — no batteries for controller, will not fit the case/box after assembly. (If you offer a case for sale I would buy it) FLY SAFELY AND REGISTER WITH FAA before you fly!.

my grandson had requested this drone for Christmas and I was delighted when I found it from the seller while they were having quick holiday sell at about 30 percent off. This one arrived without the camera extra battery or the extra body shells.

My first reaction was that I had received a returned item and I delayed for a day or two while thinking about whether I could return and reorder in time for Christmas. I can tell you that customer service here is exemplary.

As soon as I finally contacted them the parts were shipped out to me with a full apology that they would not arrive in time for the Christmas holiday. They arrived two days after Christmas and all is well.

This was a gift but I have flown it on several occasions. This drone is certainly for the more experienced flyer. It responds very quickly, is very fast and you certainly will not want to try flying it indoors unless you live in a shopping mall with very high ceilings.

I made this mistake in an effort to make sure it worked before wrapping it. (nothing worse than giving a child a non-functioning item that he/she requested as a gift). I was not prepared for the speed.

The ceiling in our living room is 18′ high and before I could react it bounced off the ceiling careened into the wall and in my panic I completely shut off the remote and it fell to the floor. Much to my glee there was no harm at all to the drone but some panic on my wife’s part as she came running from the bedroom where she was wrapping gifts with the “what have you done now” look on her face.

I waited until the unveiling and we took it outside for the maiden flight which was “awesome”. The words of the a grandson who is far better with drones than myself. We have had it at an altitude that makes I a speck in the sky and it was still climbing.

It will handle extremely well in light winds and resists headwinds quite well on the return trip. I, on two occasions crashed the drone into trees and again no damage was done. This thing is very rugged.

The things that I don’t like are the lack of a power switch. You have to pull the battery line to end power to the drone. This gives some concern to how long the wires will hold but after numerous connects and disconnects it seems to be holding up quite well.

Something I’ve never encountered before is a “pairing button”. There is no push the throttle forward and backward. You turn on the control, then plug in the battery on the drone and receive a long beep.

At this point (sit the drone down on a level surface before doing this) press the red button on quick press and the props start turning. They aren’t turning fact enough to initiate flight but they are turning and I can tell you they are turning fast enough to hurt and possibly cut if you are holding the drone.

This is a rather loud drone also. Not loud enough to be annoying but louder than I expected. There is no headless mode or return home function on this drone but that is quite fine with me as I will explain shortly,.

There is no FPV function here unless you purchase a camera capable of interacting with your smart phone. The camera makes beautiful video and very good quality pictures but it cannot be controlled remotely.

You have to start the camera before sitting the drone down and taking to the air. This is okay for video but prohibits taking stills in the air. There is a burst mode in pics but the limit is three and by the time it’s in the air you caught some excellent pictures of the ground you were leaving behind.

It was difficult for me to figure out how to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer using usb cable even though there is a mini port on the camera. I resorted to using a micro sd card reader.

Considering the quality of the pictures these are minor complaints and would not prevent me from buying this drone again. Things I like. this drone is very rugged and takes a beating without breaking.

It can reach extreme altitudes and is capable of at least 1500 feet control ranges and even at extreme range it responds quickly with no noticeable lag. It carries a camera equivalent to go pro with no reduction in power or response.

The camera does not operate from the drone battery so there is no additional drain on the battery flying you drone. The two batteries that come with the drone are fully capable of delivering 15 minutes flying time each resulting in a thirty minute play time.

(great time with your kids so get two or three so you can all fly at once. ) There is a rapid beep indicating that the battery is near drained and as nearly as I can calculate you have about three to four minutes to bring it back to ground which is more than adequate.

This drone is very easily assemble and ready to fly in about 10 minutes but make sure you fully charge the battery first. I prefer this model to drones having headless mode and return home modes because.

I am a teacher that and as such am confronted with children on the high school level that have yet developed true eye hand coordination nor have they learn analytical thinking. Not only is drone flying a “bonding” experience that can be fun for the entire family when flying without generated assistance you are forced to coordinate hand movements with object position and anticipate the objects reaction.

With drones having no headless mode this is often having to be done in reverse process which promotes analytical thinking to the extreme. Be aware (an I’m sure if you have an autistic child you already are) with autistic children the noise from this drone may incur fear in the child.

It has been my experience that working with a patient adult and the correct limited exposure for a while this fear can be overcome and controlled. Who knows maybe this could be a tool for working with autism.

I recently bought this Force1 F100 Ghost Drone as my second drone. This drone has a lot of power! The first thing I noticed when flying for the first time was the lack of Altitude Hold. This makes the Ghost more difficult to fly and maneuver if you’re used to Altitude Hold.

I had one minor crash on my first flight and saw that the propellers were mangled badly. After learning better how to fly it, I replaced the props with the extras that came in the box. Again. one minor flip on the ground and the props were tattered.

It looks as if the damage is occurring when the props hit the guards. I believe the props should be made more durable or the prop guards made less rigid. After some better practice in wider open areas, I learned to fly and maneuver the Ghost much better and faster than my initial impression led me to believe, but what must I do? Buy 3 or 4 extra sets of props a week? Even good drone pilots have crashes.

I added some 6V watch battery powered COB lights for higher visibility for night flying. The night flying was impressive. Seems to have been a very long flight, and when it was over, I popped in my second battery that comes in the box for an extended period of fun.

Today I finally tried the camera. I got a very nice panoramic view of my town from a very high altitude. The quality seems good, and the camera mount is GoPro compatible as well. I was wary about testing the signal distance, but I stretched the altitude so high, that I could barely see the drone! I like the F100’s feature of beeping sequences to inform of weak signal, and low battery.

I registered my new Ghost Drone on Force1’s website with the promise to receive a free extra battery for doing so. Still waiting. I would almost rather have more propellers. I had no trouble with Pairing, Calibration, or Lock/Unlock.

Very user friendly, and once you pair the drone with the transmitter, it is not necessary for subsequent flights. Waiting for the first hard crash or flyaway, but having fun with my new Ghost Drone so far.

Overall the Holy Stone F181 is a pretty good drone, for the money. I have 3 of them, and all are the same. They fly well when everything works properly. I’ve had issues with the small pinion gears on the armature shafts coming off in flight.

This of course makes the drone uncontrollable. They are also very sensitive to wind. Even a small amount of wind has a pretty noticeable effect on control. Overall they are fairly easy to fly, and the controls all work well.

The controller screen works well, and is easy to read in sunlight. I still don’t understand all the information on the display, but the power level feature, lights, and camera indicator are Okay. I feel one of the best features is the camera.

It really works well, and takes very good pictures as well as video. In video mode you capture the motor noise, but also can hear other sounds in the area. The picture quality of both still photo and video is pretty good for such a small camera unit.

You can adjust the lens angle from straight ahead to about a 45 degree downward. My overall rating is Okay, because of the sensitivity to wind, and mechanical issues.

I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS DRONE, FAST , HANDSOME, IS TO FLY , ONE OF THE BETTER DRONE TO CONTROL ! FLYING THIS HOLY STONE DRONE KEEPS YOUR HEART RATE UP IT’S A REAL GO GETTER IF YOU CAN. GET ONE OR TWO THEM I WANT.

This drone is so much better and easier to fly than the first one I purchased. (It was really a cheap one. ) As a novice drone operator, I still need more experience in trimming the drone to prevent it from drifting.

I don’t believe it will take me too long to iron out that problem. I also need more practice in manipulating the craft into position in order to take photos and videos of objects I desire to photograph as it does not have the live view FPV feature.

In summation, I really like it.

I have owned a few go pros (7 and 8) prior to the 10 and somehow escaped SD card error problems. As a mom on vacation in Hawaii, I really wish I had tested this Hero 10 at home, thoroughly for 3-7 days with all kinds of scenarios and frame rates/SD cards, after purchasing it and bringing it on vacation.

Instead, I shot a few clips around the house and packed it up, leaving my trusty Hero 8 (and its memory cards that all work well) at home. Bad Move. I trusted GoPro, based on past good experiences. On this trip over Thanksgiving, this camera and SD card errors is causing distress, distraction, stress; I lost ~ 2 days of footage.

Spent time trying to buy over-priced microSD cards, and the wasted too much valuable vacation time trying to troubleshoot this situation: my brand new GoPro Hero 10 records video and then produces SD Card Error which forces me to format and erase all footage.

That is TERRIBLE. I’ve spent time trying to recover the footage and have looked into Tensorshare and cardrescue, but I need a larger hard drive/will just try to do this after vacation when at home. I’m writing this as a warning to others.

The camera has a lot of great features and those seem to work well. the additional frame rates, faster processor, front facing camera, new time lapse options, stabilization, etc. Better, snappier, UI on the screen.

Removable lens. I like what they’ve done, generally, but the company needs to address this quickly and/or buyers need to be ready to lose anything they’ve shot. My firmware is updated (but through the app AND then I tried with the manual method).

I have fast SD cards (SanDisk – Extreme PLUS 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card and similar latest and greatest) that were formatted in camera. I do not recommend SanDisk for this, although I NEVER had problems with my Hero8 and SanDisk.

I only have SanDisk because that is what always worked with my Hero 8. I will try another brand, maybe Samsung Evo or Lexar ??.
