Why Scotch doesn’t include this essential and easy technique to separate the tape from the backing I haven’t a clue, but here it is: — It’s true that when the tape and backing terminate at the same spot (like if you cut the combo) it’s almost impossible to tease the tape away from the backing.

So do this: 1) On the dispenser, pull the tape and backing out about 1. 5” beyond the cutting blade. Then cut a short length of this protruding tape (about 3/4”) , flip it over, and then attach the sticky side of about half of this to the sticky side of the end of the remaining tape and backing.

The two sticky sides will stick tightly together, and this will allow you to fairly easily peel the non-stick backing away from the remaining protruding two-sided tape. 2) Once this is accomplished, the rest is easy.

Remove or cut off the short flipped-over segment. Grasp the end of the now fully exposed two-sided tape, pull it forward to the desired length while holding and peeling back the separated non-stick backing, and while making sure that the backing is peeled back far enough to be short of the cutting blade, go ahead and cut off the desired length of two-sided tape.

4) Repeat ad infinitum. If by mistake one cuts off the tape and backing at the same spot, then repeat Step One. In other words, one can’t just cut off a length of the backing/tape combo (like would seem logical) and hope to separate the tape from the backing.

I went into the store looking for Scotch removable tape and it was not on the shelf. I bought the poster tape instead. I found that the serrated edge of the dispenser was not robust enough to easily tear the tape.

The only way I could cut it cleanly/accurately was with scissors. The liner was extremely difficult to remove from the table itself. I had to really pick at it to finally get the liner off. Not the quality I normally see from Scotch branded products.

This tape isn’t very sticky. Had to put lots of it on my project to keep it in place. It is nearly impossible to peel off the tab strip from the tape. I found that if you pull the tab & tape from the dispenser but DO NOT RIP the tab strip, instead separate the tab from the tape before ripping, then only rip the tape off, leaving a long trail of the non-sticky tab, it is much easier and goes faster.

When the tab strip and tape are the exact same length, you cannot separate the two. Keeping the tab strip attached and only ripping the tape underneath makes it easy to separate the tab from the tape.

I bought these as I was actually looking for a different product of the same premise. These come in 1”x1” squares which is nice. The other product I was searching for comes in 4”x4” squares. These hold up nicely, slightly pricey, comparable to all Gorilla Glue products.

I never thought I would have anything bad to say about a Gorilla product but I did not like these at all. Trying to get the sides off is just a complete aggravation! Once I finally got the sides off, I put up a charging port on the wall.

Not even an hour later it’s down! This port is three pounds. It’s very frustrating and disappointing. I expected much better.

I bought these mounting squares about a week ago. They are truly amazing. My daughter has a throw rug in her living room and we thought we might be able to use them for that. The right kept sliding and moving and we weren’t sure what we were going to do.

I purchased this to hang a lightweight picture and plastic shelf on my kitchen wall, unfortunately, this would not hold for 1 minute (seriously, not even 1 minute). I covered the entire perimeter of each item in mounting tape and still it would fall off the wall immediately.

I wish I could’ve returned this but I used the entire tape roll trying to secure two simple decor items and reapply tape where needed when it would fall. I thought I would at-least have some left over for other projects.

Definitely look at other mounting tape brands that can hold heavy items. This tape can only probably hold something small and extremelyyyyy lightweight (make sure it is way under 10 pounds though instructions state it can hold up to 10 pounds.

I cannot think of a product that has frustrated me more than this one! To the point I was screaming! First, you can’t cut off a piece. No matter what pair of scissors I use, the tape sticks to much to them as I cut, that I can only get cut halfway through.

Then it is stuck so much to the scissors, that I often ruin the piece trying to get it off, even before I finish the cut! And for the pieces that I DO manage to get cut, after I apply them, I can’t get the stupid backing off! So half of the remaining pieces are then ruined as well, as they come up from the shelf I just applied them to.

What a piece of crap!.

Does the job, really great! I used this for my carpet because it likes to slip and slide constantly! Applied this to all corners and haven’t ran into a problem since, it never seems to lose its stickiness either.

Renter friendly as well, I applied this to some posters to hang up on my wall and had to readjust them several times—never lost any stickiness during this process either— and it didn’t rip any paint off.

10/10 worth the purchae.

For the life of me I cannot remove the backing of this tape!!!!!!! And all the other non-3M mounting tape never behaved this way. For the love of your mental health, if you do not want to be screaming and crying and spend a godforsaken 2 hours trying to get one single piece of the backing off – do not buy.

I used to love and only trust 3M products but I will start venture to alternatives now. This is the most awful tape I’ve ever bought.

There are a couple of things you need to be aware of when using this product: 1. Removing the backing is tricky. Running the teeth of a comb diagonally along the corner of the tape works although you might need tweezers to finish.

2. This stuff is seriously sticky. It sticks to scissors making cutting difficult. If you put just a tiny drop of oil on your scissor blades before cutting you can solve this problem.

Bought a 3-pack, despite reading the negative reviews about the backing being hard to peel off. And then went through the same frustrations. until I realized that THERE’S ONLY BACKING ON THE FIRST 6-7 INCHES!! Roll out that section, cut it off, toss it out, and the rest of the roll is ready to go.

No backing to peel off. No frustration. There are no instructions on the packaging (which I have to admit, just one line of “How to get started” on the box would probably help those of us who are, apparently, less smart than tape).

The only instructions are printed on the part of the tape that you’re supposed to remove — a little awkward to read since it rotates and is printed in six different languages. Alas, after trying in vain to remove the “backing” from first part of the roll, it suddenly became apparent that the part of the tape that says to “Unwind this protective wrap” means exactly that: unwind it, and remove that section of the tape and you’re golden!.

I love this double sided tape and it’s my preferred method for journaling. It’s not messy like glue sticks or liquid glue — even tiny nibbed glue pens. And you can be more accurate using this rather than a tape runner.

Also, it’s definitely permanent— far more than the other options mentioned above. Not really understanding how people assume there’s a peel off backing. It seems intuitive that the first few inches are to cover and protect the actual tape itself.

There is no backing and nowhere does it even hint that there’s a backing. You just treat it like a normal roll of tape— pull, and cut off excess with the built in cutting mechanism. It’s basic dispenser style tape, but both sides are sticky instead of one.

3M sent me a free sample of the Scotch® Double Sided Tape to evaluate. I found using the tape to be very easy. For example, when you removed the protective layer covering the roll both sticky sides are exposed.

So, when you cut a piece off its ready to use. There is no need to try to remove a protective layer when its cut from the dispenser. In general, the tape seems to be sticky enough to hold other paper to it, similar to regular tape.

I just wouldn’t use it for any heavy weight items. As for the width of the tape its rather narrow. I estimate its half the width of a standard scotch roll tape. So, depending on your project, this could be a good be good or bad.

Lastly, dispenser for the tape is very flimsy, when cutting some tape off, it always felt like it was going to break.

I purchased the double-stick tape to create student dividers for the in home part of hybrid schooling. I used a cardboard box with egg-crate foam. The tape stuck to the box really well, but the foam was a problem.

It will hold for a few hours then needs to be re-pressed to re-stick. I have discovered that hot-glue, did not hold the foam well either. I determined that it is the material I was attempting to use to stick, not the tape.

The tape works well when it is use on solid surfaces, like for hanging things on the wall, but not designed for soft flexible surfaces.

I definitely would not buy again. Made the mistake of throwing my receipt away before using product. Didn’t even hold item in place 24hrs, came home and found it on the floor. Glad it wasn’t glass. GreT price compared to brand but not worth it when it doesn’t work.

If I had my receipt I would return it.

I was having problems with my magnetic phone holder in my car. I have tried several dual sided tapes to hold the metal piece to my phone that, hooks to the magnetic phone holder, and none of them would hold but only a short period, the 3m dual sided tape held best, up until it dropped my phone on the floorboard! I am an Uber driver so it’s very important to have a hands free phone that doesn’t fall off and distracts you while driving.

This is the best 2 sided tape I’ve used so far!! I give it a full 5 stars out of 5!!!.

I like double sided tape when I am doing various types of papers where I want it to adhere on both sides. Sometimes, this tape has proven strong enough to stick carpet pieces on the floor. It will not damage the flooring.

It is also good to use for an emergency hemming tool. It is not meant to last, but if you are in a pitch and you do not have needle and thread, you can use the double sided tape for an emergency fix it.

the tape is not the same any more, will not hold items in place, now items will move a little when I hang things. they haven’t fallen off, they just sag a little from the spot after I install things now, they changed the quality of the sheer strength of the tape, I have put more tape on be it still sags ,the tape is to spongy now.

I have been using this 3M tape for over 30 years, now it doesn’t work for me anymore. IT WAS THE BEST TWO WAY TAPE YOU COULD BUY, now its just like the rest of the two way tape out there. NOW IT’S NOT WORTH THE MONEY ANYMORE FOR ME.

I make many different kinds of All Occasion Cards and have been using Scotch Double sided tape for more than twenty years. Because the tape has a thickness it is easy to use to give items dimension. And if one layer is not enough, it is easy to put one piece on top of other to give it added height.

Love it,love it ,love it. Thanks for having it in different sizes because I know not everyone needs the large amount I use. I recommend it to all my crafting friends anytime someone asks what I use for a really dependable adhesive.

I purchased this product to stick some motion-activated lights underneath my kitchen cabinets. Each light strip weighs no more than 2 lbs, it’s just a thin plastic bar. but ever since day 1, we’ve had each light fall off and smash into the counter (thankfully none have broken) intermittently.

Sometimes we can manage a light to stick, undisturbed for 5 days at a time. But this product which claims to have a “30lb” hold on the front of the package, could barely manage to hold up a flimsy 2lb plastic bar.

Not a long term solution for us. Sadly I had thrown away the receipt so I can’t even return it. I really wanted this product to work.

A few years ago I mounted all of my prints on my walls with Scotch double-sided tape, and they are still all there! Recently I bought some new prints that needed mounting and thought I’d try “Gorilla” double-sided tape as I’d heard good things about it, but it was extremely hard to use as the backing was almost impossible to peel off.

And withing a few hours all the prints that I’d used Gorilla tape on had fallen down! Maybe the surface was the issue – it’s slightly rough dry wall with a coating of paint. So I bought a new roll of Scotch double-sided tape and stuck the prints to the wall with that with no problems at all, and the backing peels off without any problem.

I was a little hesitant about this product as I have not had very much luck with mounting tape in the past. However for the most part this mounting tape does a good job in holding things on the wall I have lightweight picture frames and regular size posters that I have successfully been able to hang on the wall and it has stayed in place so far.

I wouldn’t suggest using bigger posters I have a large poster that the mounting tape just does not work well with no matter how many pieces I put on the poster it always manages to fall down and it’s only been a week.

I do love that they make it very clear what the weight limit is I just didn’t realize that my poster was as heavy as you know it is and so because of that it doesn’t stay on there and even if you use a bunch of pieces on the back it will still managed to come off of the wall.

I definitely think this is a great product for just hanging smaller things around the house.

I really love the Duck Removable Mounting Tape, it’s just perfect. The mounting tape is strong & sticky, but doesn’t leave any residue or damage the walls when you remove it. The Duck Removable mounting tape has been great! I wanted to put some LED lights behind my tv without using the stickers that actually come on them to for easy removal in case I choose to move them around and use them else where.

This is a somewhat permanent adhesive pad. You will have to scrape it off with a tool to remove. I cleaned both surfaces with alcohol and let dry, peeled the backer off one side and applied to object I was attaching and then peeled the backer off the remaining side and aligned with my mounting location and then pressed firmly.

Get it right the first time, there is no redo. Once it is stuck, it is stuck.

These mounting squares work really well for permanently mounting heavier object to walls versus Command strips which are lighter duty and temporary. I like that each one can hold a certain amount of weight and if I have a heavier object I can use several mounting squares if needed.

I have used them on a lighter weight picture frame. The adhesion was a lot more secure than the Command adhesive since this is also a permanent mounting. I wanted to try to use them on a marble tile key hook, but when I weighted the tile, I would have needed to completely cover the back of the tile with the mounting squares in order to meet the weight requirements.

I opted for a standard nail and hook to mount the tile. I like that the mounting squares are thick so the objects are slightly away from the wall. This allows me to hang things like picture frames that have built in hangers.

It will also help if the objects need to be removed in the future.

I’ve now used this tape for three projects. If the surfaces you intend to stick together are clean (especially make sure you are completely free of silicone sealer residue, dust, loose or aging paint, aged wood, or similar) then this tape will stick and hold very well.

It does not adhere to surfaces that are of questionable soundness and it won’t stick to silicone sealer residue AT ALL, EVER. I just mounted some polycarbonate windows to a fiberglass boat, and the initial adhesion appears to be very good.

In my case I’ll secure the pieces in place with intermittent screws to minimize potential gaps as the materials flex in the heat/cold. For two earlier small projects, like holding my radio receiver in my truck’s cup holder, and for holding some foam blocks in place to protect heads from hitting screw ends, the material appears to be working as well as expected.

Two things I concur with from other reviews are that the backing is hard to handle and the material seems unreasonably expensive. Overall, this is a good choice for bonding materials, just make you choose the materials and prep them properly.

I bought this to attach a small dash cam on my front window. I thought that it would work as it is rated for 30 lbs and the camera weighs only a few ounces. What I failed to take into account was the heat in direct sunlight.

After only a week, my camera was pointing at my feet. This tape may be good for other applications, but it does not work in direct sunlight.

Haven’t had any issues yet. I needed something for outdoors that had a strong hold. Our ring doorbell is not wired, but I needed it to be secured to our door. This tape does the job! It hasn’t fallen down once and is weatherproof.

It flushes well with the door as well and leaves no gap in between. I picked up my tape from a auto supply store in my area.

I bought this to stick some hue light strips under some cabinets. First issue was it was difficult to cut but I can’t really fault it for thus as that’s not what it’s designed for. I stuck to light stripe left a while then tried to peal the back off and.

almost impossible. what happens in reality is you end up pulling it away from what you want to stick. entually got it off and stuck and think we’ll it it stuck that hard this should be solid. nope, the following morning the light strip was on floor! Total waise of money and surprising as gorilla products are normally really good.

I love this tape. I have tried several other so called tape that is supposed to hold up bricks etc none of them work. Then i bought some gorilla tape as my last try and it was great. I would definately recommend it.

It is quite hard to get the backing paper off but once off great. I even the last time also bought mounting tape squares very handy already cut in squares so no cutting required.

Bought 2 tapes following the great reviews, to stick some light photo frames to the wall. The tape is very good at sticking to fingers, not anything else. From next day photo frames started to drop on the floor one by one.

Terrible tape.

It sticks great It’s really nice to make kits. I used it to do a craft with nursing home residents. I put the tape on the back of the prices that needed to be put onto my main shape. Then all they had to do was pull off the paper on the side that they needed to stick onto the main shape.

It made it so they didn’t need as much assistance and they could customize their project. It also added a little more dimension to the project.

I bought this product to mount things in the apartment I rent. It held great and worked as described. I give three stars because the fact that this tape is PERMANENT is nowhere to be found on the front of the package.

That needs to be crystal clear when the tape is designed to not be removable and most foam tape like this is. I should have read the fine print, I know. I sure wish I had after spending hours to get it off my walls.

I bought this to hang Christmas lights outside in a rainproof area. They fell down several times. This tape costs a dollar a foot! You only get 5 feet on a roll. Too bad it does not hold. You would be much better off with a different brand.

I used to think Scotch was a good name. Maybe for the thin clear tape for wrapping gifts. But not this tape. DO NOT BUY! You will be sorry at the low quality and inability to hold AND high price.
