20 Best Door Mats For Trapping Dirt (2023 Updated)

This mat is a total game changer. We have 2 dogs, a home daycare with 5 kids in and out in the mud, snow and slush. This mat absorbs 95% of the mess. I was wiping up muddy foot prints what felt like 100 times a day.

I am now just lifting the mat at night to shake out the salt and everything that’s trapped in it and hanging it to dry, then giving the floor a quick wipe. When I first saw the price tag on the mat, I thought it was ridiculous, but then I decided to give it a try.

It is worth every penny!.

My cats are indoor outdoor cats and always track in either muddy paws or leaves on their fur. So I thought these mats would be great for the front door and by the cat door. Well for starters the cats don’t like the texture on their paws so they step or jump over the rug.

I’m new at having cats as I’ve been a dog owner for 16 years. Apparently very different as dogs are more accepting of things like this. My one kitty who likes pee pads to do her business instead of the litter box has discovered doing her thing on these rugs is like grass outside.

I discovered this only by smelling the stink when I was smoothing out the rug which had been scrubbed up by her or opening the door. Washing them has been a challenge to get the pee smell out and I wash them alone and hang outside to dry.

Especially after it smells like pee the other cats don’t want to step on it. The rugs are very absorbent. They durable and well made but don’t think it is a success on what I purchased them for. Sigh.

I’m thinking of taking one to work to place at the door inside at my office to prevent humans from tracking things inside and they’ll have to ignore the giant paw print on it or think I have an invisible dog at the office.

MUST HAVE for dog owners! We have 3 dogs and two of them are basset hounds with big old paws. I’ve probably gone through 20 different kinds of throw rugs – really – until I finally broke down and paid the extra for the Dirty Dog mat, SO GLAD I DID! It really works! Works well for my husbands boots after he comes in from the farm too.

My only complaint is that I didn’t think this through a bit more. I wanted one for each side of my front door. The outside one is perfect, the inside one blocks the door from opening as it is too low to the floor.

So I should have ordered one with the shorter pile. For now it has been pushed to the side and my cat has taken control of is as his private rug!.

I have been using these coco matt’s for 54 years. Great for the golf course entertrainces. The only matt that grabs & collects the grass attached to spikes on golf shoes. Now that I have puppies these matt’s grab & collect what there paws pickup.

The doormat seems to be of great durable quality, sturdy, thick, good size to be on my front door doorstep. It has a nice appeal. I am very pleased. It was delivered on time.

A little small for my condo door and I got the large one. May get a different one and use this for the porch. Regardless, for the price, this is VERY WELL MADE and durable/thick. I took a chance on shipment for this cheap price, because a few others mentioned it came cracked, but THANKFULLY mine was perfect.

Just wish it was bigger. I would not hesitate to buy this. Just be sure of measurements.

Great Price. Sturdy and thick. Does the job. Mat comes rolled up and takes a while to flatten. Need to be careful of someone tripping until it becomes smooth to the floor.

Took forever to get here but it’s solid, tough and looks good outside my door in Alaska ! It’s rubber, not carpet and should hold up a very long time. Easy to sweep off. Much bigger than those little mats you buy in a store.

Larry is adorable and he greets my guests every day. He makes everyone smile! I received Larry as a birthday gift in November – so a little over six months ago. He lives in an inside hallway and is not exposed to the elements.

Sadly he’s fading and falling apart. This shouldn’t be happening and soon poor Larry is going to be greeting guests from the trash bin. I was so happy to receive this for my birthday but now I’m just sad and disappointed!.

My husband loves llamas and when I gifted him this llama doormat he got a huge kick out of it! It has held up well to the elements so far and the colors are still vibrant. Very durable and sturdy. Only con was that there was a slight odor upon arrival, but because it resides outside, the odor quickly dissipated and was not a bother.

We received this outdoor mat over a week ago. It came very well packaged and well protected. It also came very fast. It’s really well made and really very cute my favorite mat ever. the colors are vibrant.

It is thick, which we like. I would just make sure that you measure to make sure you have enough clearance under your door.

I love the Aqua Shield mats–This is my second one. They are so durable and functional, but with cool designs that they are decorative as well. The color (navy blue) was exactly as pictured, so it matches the bench in my foyer perfectly.

For some reason I thought this mat would be a solid rubbery material. The coconut coir mats always end up soaked and keep moisture on our deck and porch, so I thought this would be better. It’s not rubbery and does get soaked, and stay wet, although not as badly as with the coconut fiber mats.

This also does hold on to dirt and I’ve already had to scrub it — doesn’t wash off super easily.

I needed to cover an odd shaped staircase landing so I cut this to the shape I needed and it worked perfectly. My dog had surgery and when she can take stairs again I needed to make that landing slip proof.

We use this under our cats’ water fountain. Perfect replacement for the endless silicone mats that they’d ultimately claw to shreds and no more wet floors!

I was seeking a rubber doormat that could hold up to the traffic of contractors and workers coming in and out my front door while keeping the mud leaves and other stuff out. This does the trick and looks beautiful (I did not see any excess rubber to trim as previous reviewers had mentioned.

) It’s sturdy, practical and complements my 1895 house beautifully, I will be ordering two more – one for a gift and another for my side door entrance.

If you’re even a tiny but OCD, you’ll want to spend hours tracing out the inner edges of this mat with an exact-o knife. It looks like a rodent chewed on it. It’s sturdy, heavy and if you can get passed the janky edges, you might like it.

The quality of this mat seems great. I just opened the package so I cannot yet speak to how it will hold up. But it is certainly the type of mat you want for inside your front door from my first impression—appears sturdy, waterproof, and non-slip.

I do, however, have one major qualm. If you are ordering this mat in the Camel color then prepare for disappointment. The photo they used to advertise this shade was either edited to appear brighter, or, this is a different mat entirely.

The mat is VERY dark and the shade is a sort of puke-gray-brown. Nothing like how it appears in the photo. Not going to bother with returning (I rarely do returns) but will probably find an equally dark corner to hide this in.

After putting in a double entry door on our house, I started looking for a door mat meant for two doors. They are not easy to find, and are usually very expensive. This mat came in several colors, so I was able to find one that would work.

I only wish that it was a couple of inches longer to fully go from the outer left side to the outer right. I guess my double door is wider than others. Still, better than a mat meant for single door.

I bought these previously in different sizes & was happy with the gold undertone to blend in with my wood floors. I’ve ordered & Re-ordered the ‘Camel’ color 3x but now it is a darker brown. Returned & so disappointed! Please bring gold-camel color back!.

Wow what a great rug for my porch!! It is really thick. It’s not too soft or too hard. It does shed but you can take a broom to sweep it. I have noticed a line down the middle but think maybe it is attracting an animal that may be eating eat? Weird will have to keep my eye on it.

Exactly as pictured. Nice golden color and very substantial. I have noticed that some reviewers complained about the shedding, I did not see a problem with that issue. Customer service is very helpful and the delivery was expedient.

This is our second mat so clearly we are very pleased overall with the product. It makes a statement to anyone coming to the front door. It is absolutely the best quality mat we have ever used. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We have received a number of items from Houzz since we discovered the service and have been pleased with the customer service, quality of the products, and the speed of delivery. The packaging has been great and we have never had any damage.

First of all, the look is just fine! But the shedding is terrible. I tried to get all the shedding out of it, but it just kept coming and was entirely unsustainable. getting more stuff in my house than keeping out of it! Just not worth it for me.

Maybe someone else has cracked the code of getting the shedding to stop, but I couldn’t figure it out.

Had a plastic mat with all the scratchy fibers that really worked well for cleaning mud and muck off at the door, but it’s pretty old now so it’s totally curled up on 2 ends, almost worn through and I am in a new flat so it was time to get a new mat.

I got a $10 groupon for Target for $5 and decided to test the free order pickup at store, for the fun of it. Picked this mat, ordered for pickup-received 4 E-mail confirmations: order , currently processing order, ready for pickup, and a “order was picked up”.

I hardly ever deal with customer service, but the guy at my store, was nice, gave eye contact, smiled, very pleasant. After he bagged it up and I was ready to go, I stopped and said, “Oh, I want to inspect this before I leave.

” He was all for it and I told him I read someone received these mats ripped and I rather refund it right now than going all the way home to find out. But it was perfect; I even checked the side where the bristles meet the backing.

Everything very nice. I got it home and immediately kicked the other one aside, came in and got the tags off and showed the new one its home. Took the old one to the dumpster and went to come back in the flat.

Those really thin mats are worthless-mostly decoration, I have walked on a few but I want something that works for it’s keep! (Doesn’t just sit there and look pretty). This has both looks and brawn. Guess it needs to walk through the door sideways!.

Nice rug, but if it gets wet it could ruin your floor. Mine was in my inside porch, rain water got it, and rust water came out from the rug and went everywhere. It was brand new. Highly upsetting. My floors look awful.

I purchased this waterhog mat for our son. He has it at the entrance to his back deck. It looks great and is effective at trapping soil, etc that would otherwise end up on the wood floors. He’s happy with the mat and likes the color and design.

I purchased four Thirsty Dots mats to place just inside each entrance to our house. They lay flat and have a low profile which is great because our doors are still able to open/close easily. The tan color also appears gray from some angles which we really liked – they will match all sorts of color schemes.

This is a very heavy high quality rubber mat. Great for porches and door areas that get wet. I just left one at a house I sold and this is a replacement one for the new house although it means I still have two; one for both front and back porches.

Love these doormats. I ordered two because we have a slippery front stoop. I put them together and they are fabulous, even in Minnesota. They look nice and have great traction. I pull them up when I’m shoveling, but I have shoveled over the top and because of the design, they still offer good grip.

I highly recommend these for winter traction.

I got the gray recycled water hog runner for my mud room. We live on a farm, so this mat catches a lot of dirt and debris from our shoes and boots. We love this mat! It looks great, stays in place, and is easy to clean.
