I am waiting to have my daughter diagnosed and I thought it would be a good idea to buy a book about Autism. I made the right choice!. the author is amazing, the way she has written the book made me feel not so panicky and worried, and how to handle certain situations.

A brilliant read, every parent who thinks their child may be autistic or has just found out that their child is a Autistic person should read this.

It’s written in laymans terms and covers all the difficulties that autistic children experience. It explains the reasons for the child’s behaviour and gives advice on how to cope with problems. It’s a very optimistic book and I found it both interesting and helpful.

My child is autistic, just waiting for her to be diagnosed. I could have done with this when she was 2 years old, she’s 5 years old. This book has opened my eyes up, really helped me to help me understand my daughter.

I haven’t read this book yet, but my husband read it as soon as it arrived. I am a Special Education teacher working with 3 and 4 year old children. My husband is an Occupational Therapist who works with children ages birth to 3 years.

He is not a reader. In fact, I think this is the first book I’ve seen him read cover to cover since I met him. There are many ideas in the book for activities to do with children with autism and other children who have sensory needs.

The book offers ideas for parents and professionals. It is a great sequel to The Out of Sync Child. Both books are great resources for parents who do not understand the different needs of their child.

This was 1 of the 1st books I bought after my child was diagnosed by an OT with Sensory Processing Disorder. I immediately started using the techniques from the book and saw eye-openeing results! The ideas are very easy to do and directly help your child in his or her area of sensory need.

I would recommend this book to everybody with an “out-of-sync” child. It truly helps them to get back INTO sync!.

The first book can fill in the blanks and lead to a diagnosis for the ‘out of sync child’. This second book has helpful tips and suggestions for you and your child. Both books are helpful and informative.

Apart from the issue of Aspergers Syndrome now phased out as a diagnosis in favour of ASC, this is an excellent book to read with/for children (prob boys) on the spectrum who don’t have other language or learning difficulties.

It’s not updated to follow recent diagnostic changes, or reflect today’s awareness of girls on the spectrum, but it suits our child very well, and is helpful to explain simply to other family members.

This is one of those books that is both practical, informative and even manages to be charming in the process. It worked very well in my circumstances as I read it to my 6 year old. At the end of the story where Adam, the central character in the story finishes telling his friends that he has AS and more importantly, how they can help him, I asked my son what he thought of Adam.

My son simply said, “Have I got AS?” It was that simple to introduce him to the fact that the world thinks and behaves differently to the way he might. My boy is now 8 and every so often I dip back into the book to remind my son of how Adam coped in similar situations.

Its possibly the best book that I have on the subject, being so easy to follow. Yon can then pass it around to friends as there’s no high brow speak about left or right brain function etc. , it guarantees that they’ll read it an understand it from the child’s point of view – that’s important.

I’m the mom of an 11-year old son with Asperger’s syndrome. He is very high functioning and is coming to terms with his condition. He is very self-aware, but is not ready to openly discuss his AS with peers.

My hope is that this book will help him when the time comes. I’ve read it and feel it is a great starting point and plan on reviewing the book with my son together because, of course, the boy in the book has similarities, but also differences from my son, which I’m sure he’ll point out.

I think it’s important to discuss the book and its contents with him. My son was diagnosed at age 7, and at age 9, he started questioning why he was having so much difficulty with things in general when other kids didn’t.

That’s when I found a book similar to Welton’s entitled “Asperger’s Huh?”. We used this book to discuss what Asperger’s Syndrome is in more simpler terms for kids, and it helped greatly. There was some relief for my son in knowing there was a reason for his difficulties and that there was actually a name for it.

This product is much larger than I anticipated. Since I am a home based provider and not in a school, I had to figure out a way to use this for my transitions without taking up a lot of space. I really like how there are repetitive cards that are needed throughout the day.

I love this schedule! I was looking for a schedule that used large pictures and this horizontal one is perfect. It provides some blanks for you to create your own. There are many uses for this as they can be put together in any even number to provide first next last scenarios around your classroom.

This product will be used in my home daycare. It will be posted on the walls showing the time and daily schedule of when things take place so the parents will be able to see the listed activities the children will be doing throughout the day.

Love the activities in here- a fabulous source of ideas to tailor to a child I teach. However, the book had a cloying perfume smell when pages were turned, which made handling it unpleasant.

This is a well thought out book, with great ways to engage with your child or a child you work with. Very logical approaches with, well detailed purpose

This book truly is the ‘bible’ for anyone coming into contact with SPD kids. Highly recommended! As an Occupational Therapy Assistant with over 16 years exp. with SI. I recommended it all the time, and gave my last copy away.

As life would have it, I have two grandsons with SPD. Mine are true ‘seekers’! Joint compressions & deep massage is my 5 year old’s favorite calming technique. One copy is mine, and the other goes to their Mom.

I know it will bring both enlightenment and relief.

Bought this book because I have a teenager who we could never meet the requirements for the “autistic” diagnosis. Therapist suggested we look at getting an evaluation through an Occupational Therapist for Sensory Processing Disorder (which mirrors the diagnostic criteria for multiple disorders- anxiety, add, adhd, autism, etc.

).

I had already read this book- lended to me by my son’s occupational therapist. I needed to have my own copy for reference. If anyone suspects their child has unusual idiosyncrasies that cannot be explained, or that sometimes interfere with “normal” situations – yet you don’t think there’s a serious diagnosis – I highly recommend you read this book.

It may reveal things than can help you equip your child to be more successful for the rest of their life, and also calm any fears that you may have about the possibility of other disorders such as the autism spectrum.

It does get a bit clinical at times – and it is a very complex subject matter. Stick with it, because toward the end of the book you will gain a much better understanding about how to cope at home, at school, and in public.

I am loving this book. Simple and practical and extremely relevant. Very informative yet easy to understand. This book offers gentle advice and relevant, helpful information. I love that it makes me feel like there is hope and help for my SPD child.

I wanted to completely change the way I am raising my 3 children, but was lost for any ideas on how to do this. This is a very practically written guide on how to overhaul your relationships with your kids by giving them choices and teaching them right from wrong by allowing them to feel the weight of the consequences of their decisions.

It is a very kind and respectful way of teaching your kids everything you want them to learn, without all the nagging/yelling/punishing that seems to destroy the closeness we should be enjoying in our parent/child relationship.

I need to keep re-reading this book because it’s sure been a process for me to break out of my old habits, but I’m thankful to have this book as my how-to guide!.

This book had been recommended to me by another parent. I have looked up to this person as a parent and admired their parenting strategies that he uses with his teenage children. With a young child I feel it is important to start setting boundaries as a youngster and wanted to check out some ideas.

Although I didn’t agree with everything the book said, a good portion of the book sounds reasonable and I have already started implementing some of the strategies with my child. I have worked with training dogs and always compared raising a child to training a pup in jest.

I have found that a little person has MUCH more cognitive responsibility and decision-making abilities than a puppy 🙂 The processes the book discusses makes complete sense and I look forward to trying out more of the ideas in it! I’ve already passed my copy on to a friend and plan to continue recommending it to parents! I was also surprised when I was discussing the book with my sister, that she used the Love and Logic parenting method! No wonder her little girl is such a doll :).

This book is the closest to an “owners manual” as you will ever find for raising kids. Want to raise respectful kids? want to remain calm and be in control with your kids? want to rethink your job as a parent? PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! As a young parent, I thought I had all the answers raising my preschoolers, but as I see my children becoming teenagers I realize that there are some fundamental weaknesses in my parenting philosophy that are only now becoming apparent.

AND IT AIN”T PRETTY! 🙂 This book tells you how to teach your children to THINK ABOUT THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR with a less is more approach. Stop lecturing, threatening, and demanding. and stop thinking that it’s your responsibility to make your children’s life perfect.

In fact, if you’re doing that, you’re actually hindering your child’s development. The first half of this book is amazing, and the second half gives you tons of examples of how to stop very specific problems (how to get your kids to eat dinner, go to bed, not whine in the store, etc.

) Highly recommended for any parent (even those with older kids). it’s never too late!.

Handley, father of an Autistic son is to be honored for the depth of his research in exposing the dangers of vaccines.

This book has so much real information you’ll never receive from TV or your doctor. Shows once more how uninformed doctors are with regard to autism and vaccinations. Follow the money!!

I learned so much from this book. Handley backs up his assertions with scientific studies and personal experience. Important reading for anyone starting a family.
