20 Best Curling Iron For Loose Waves (2023 Updated)

I had been looking at this for a while, and was unsure. Watching the videos, it all looks so easy, but I know it’s never THAT simple and often takes some practice to hone in your technique. After getting my hairdresser to add curls with the GHD iron (and loving the look) I decided, “let’s do it!” And I’m so glad I did.

As expected, it’s a learning curve and you need to get the hang of it. There is always one side that is easier than the other, but with practice, you can get them to look pretty much the same. I have very thick course hair, so have found very small sections work much better for me – they are easier to wrap around the wand and less likely to slip whilst winding or holding.

The wand does get hot and I have caught my knuckle on the hot barrel a couple of times, despite wearing the 3-fingered glove (the knuckle I burnt was my ring finger, which isn’t covered by the glove).

This aside, if you’re careful and take your time, then you should be OK, but always be cautious – I now tend to stick a plaster over said knuckle to protect it whilst curling. Now that I’ve used this a few times, I am getting better and my technique is improving with confidence.

The results are impressive and I find they last longer when I used on hair that was washed and blow dried the day before, as opposed to freshly washed and blow dried hair (it tends to slip off the barrel more and the curls drop out quicker).

I bought the Conair Nano Curling iron after my mom told me it was a great curling iron. So I was excited to try it out. When I bought it years ago I had pin straight hair, thin strands, and it was thick.

My hair doesn’t hold curls well unless I use a ton of firm holding hairspray. Even then sometimes my hair won’t hold the curls. This curling iron made beautiful curls in my hair. I used my firm holding hair spray and it looked like the perfect soft curls I always wanted from a curling iron.

The only problem was an hour went by and my curls were falling out already. After two hours my hair looked like a mess. I really wasn’t impressed with how fast my curls fell out. I gave it two stars because it did curl nice.

Maybe it will work for others well like it did for my mom. I was just not for me.

These curling irons are the bomb. You just have to take your time not to get hair caught in the clip, and do not let them stay on too long, to burn or break off the handle over time. I never did break this plastic handle holder, my daughter broke my handle holder off my 1″ Infiniti pro tourmaline curling iron and I have not confirmed if it was a drop or a burn-off? Probably dropped.

This is an auto shut off, but it was designed to stay hot while you take a short break using it, I think it has a 5-minute shutoff, sorry have not confirmed yet. You can turn it off when you don’t need that function.

I used my glue gun, a paper towel, and some electric tape to make a new handle. Much softer handle now, but looks homemade, because it is homemade. It is permanent though. Infiniti pro you should make replacement plastic handle holder tips.

The only drawback of this iron is it is too easy to accidentally shut them off when using them. Another reason they do not stay hot too long, unless they are just sitting still. I have gotten use to just checking to make sure the light stays on.

This curling iron is better, the screws and springs to not come apart when get maximum temperature over time, like the adjust the temperature spin knobs that have so many middle parts so close together.

Just press the buttons, wait 30 seconds, then curl. My daughter was a little rebellious back then. Lot’s of grease, grease smoke, and gel burns for me to smell and clean, argh and pew wew. Not necessary.

Only needs very light oil sheen application to prevent flyaways. You can get your hair as oily and gelled as you want when you’re done. Shut it off, don’t let it just sit. They do auto shut off. No leaks.

I still needed/wanted this before I could choose a flat iron. You have to pay more for a flat iron of equal quality to this curler. No, you should not flat iron hair with this one. The 1. 5-inch barrel maybe, but no, not this one.

The 1″ flat iron curls too, I’ve never had a 1″ one yet, moving in $low motion. I just watched all the flat iron videos, but this one grabs and holds the hair in place. I could not skip this stepped purchase.

I needed a smaller curl for the left side of my head, smaller than the 1″ flat iron also. My curl patterns are different across my head, as well as my hair texture’s ability to hold a small or wider curl.

Now my left side matches the right! Happy to make this purchase. The results are beautiful perfect. Sorry, no picture. It was very nice. I will add one later if possible, the next time I need to curl my hair.

May end up being gifts, to someone when I can afford a decent 1″ flat iron, if it does the job equally, easier, or better. I accidentally bought a 2″ flat iron thinking, this will go faster, it will straighten more hair at once.

While it may be true, my hair is so thin, the small one should straighten my hair just fine. and curl it. I can barely feel my hair in the wide flat iron. Waiting. I am a quality shopper, not a $$$ shopper.

I love this curling iron. I can do bigger sections for looser curls, smaller for tighter curls. It is a good size and weight. It allows for heat adjustment, so I don’t fry my hair off. I did my hair the other day and it took 10 minutes and I have decently long hair.

The cord is long so it is easy to get those back of your head pieces. It has also lasted a while. I’ve had this since 2014 and it is still working like the day I brought it home. (just without that nasty first time use smell).

Overall I like the effect that the larger barrels have on my hair and so far this product has operated well, but the place where you put your thumb to open the waver gets so hot that after about 10 minutes of use it’s difficult to even touch.

Also, the on/off button is put in a place where I constantly accidentally touch it and turn it off. Another downfall of this product is that the material that is wrapped around the stand melts (learned the hard way)—the weight of the waver makes it so that it shifts easily and it did just that when I wasn’t paying attention and a part of the stand melted.

These aren’t dealbreakers but they’re definitely annoying design flaws.

I first saw this hair waver several years ago, while I was browsing the hair aisle at a store. I added it to my wishlist of items to try out later, when I had more funds to spend on that and other hair accessories.

It was so nice to not have to stand around and wait for it to heat up. I could get straight to my hair styling. Since it was my first time using this product, there was a learning curve for me. It took me about 50 minutes to get all my hair wavy.

While I was working on my hair, I had time to reflect on how I can speed up the process for the next time I use it. By using this hair waver, it has cut down the time a ton that it used to take me to achieve that similar result with the French braids—and my waves look a lot more even and beautiful this way!.

I was skeptical of this at first. I have very thick very heavy curl coarse hair that goes to my elbows. It holds curls/straightening/etc well, but it’s a mess. When I first saw this I thought why do this if I could braid my hair overnight and take it out in the morning? Or I had flash backs to crimping my hair in the early 2000s.

Boy was I wrong!! First of all this took me maybe 20 minutes to do my whole head which is a huge step from the hour it usually takes me to style my hair. I was impressed with that alone! But it looked SO GOOD.

i got SO many compliments at work and it wasn’t too frizzy either! It left defined waves that tamed my hair. I definitely will be using this regularly!.

I’ve used this waver only a few times but I absolutely love it!!! I even used it on myself and the waves held up all day and I got so many compliments. I can’t wait to use it on girls coming in for prom!! It’s very easy to use and heats up very fast.

This has been the only iron that has curled my hair and the curls actually stayed. Other irons has made my hair smell like it was burnt and hair feeling rough. This iron does the opposite! My hair is smooth and doesn’t have any after burnt smell but both irons reach the same degrees so this product is obviously made with perfection.

I was honestly surprised by this curling iron. I read mixed reviews on it but though the shape was really cool and something I had to try. The curls were so pretty and eventually relaxed into beach my waves.

I was upset at the packaging — I ordered it from amazon and instead of shipping the box in a regular box it was just the outside packaging with a shopping sticker slapped to it. It just so happened to be raining the day it was delivered so the box was drenched and falling apart.

Luckily the curling iron did not seem to be damaged.

I think curling wands have a little bit of a learning curve and this is the first time I’ve tried one. A couple things I love about it: it comes with a glove so I can use my hand to get the ends of my hair curled without worrying about burning myself, has varying heat temperature options to help get a stronger or looser curl, and it heats up really fast.

I also like that it takes a full second of pushing the on/off button to actually turn the wand on or off- this reduces the chances of my small children accidentally turning it on by just pushing the button.

I work at Ulta and a representative came to do demonstrations with the curling irons. This product is AMAZING. I have really fine hair and my curls fall out as soon as I walk outside. I live in a really humid climate (houston, texas) and even WITH anti-humidity hairspray my curls would fall.

With this curling iron, I no longer have to use hairspray and my curls last ALL day long. I even had a few curls when I woke up the next morning. How crazy is that?? They do include a glove that you can use to protect your fingers but I guess I am too stubborn. This is so much easier than using an iron with a clip. I have a curling iron with a clip and I have only used it 2x since I got it 4 years ago.

The iron that started it all?! As far as clipless irons go, I think so! I always get a smooth, frizz free, curl when I use this one and the 25mm is the most versatile size you can get. Depending on the look you are going for you can take larger or smaller sections or you can twist the hair around the wand differently.
