20 Best Curl Cream For Curly Hair (2023 Updated)

I like this product so far, however I think it could be better. The pictures I have posted are the products on my damp hair and 9-hours later, after taking a walk on the harbor under 70° weather. As you can see, even though my hair dried, it maintained the same texture with some bounce.

 My hair is a little bit soft but not soft soft. I feel like there was no frizz even walking for close to the harbor, literally steps away from the ocean. I would like for the product to have some shine and actually look like the hair is dried up (currently looks like it’s semi-wet).

I do not comb my hair so I just let it air dry with natural forming curls.

This is my second purchase of Ouidad Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream! It’s exactly what it’s name says it is, and it works super great on my a little longer than shoulder length, naturally curly, frizz prone hair, too! I use it on my freshly washed, damp hair, using just about a quarter sized dollop, and work it through my hair from roots to ends with my hair upside down, and, voila, my hair isn’t frizzy or out of control, even on the most humid days! I’ll usually let my hair air dry without touching it until it’s fully dry afterwards! I’ll definitely buy this product again and again!.

I bought a travel size of this a few months ago to see if it would be a better product for me than Advanced Climate Control Gel, which leaves a slight cast if used alone on my hair, and just bought the full size.

I have used this cream mixed with gel for windy days or extra definition with good results. I have also had satisfying results using this cream alone after a leave in conditioner. It responds well to second or third day refreshment with a little water or spray conditioner on my 2C/3A natural graying hair.

So I have dry, damaged, frizzy curls/waves (if you have 2c/3a-ish hair and you’re just starting your curly journey you know what I’m talking about), and they need all the help they can get to keep their shape sometimes.

This is only the second Briogeo product I’ve tried but I am pretty happy with how my hair looks after I use it It definitely makes my curls more defined and when used with a holding gel I really see my real hair pattern come through, especially if I take the time to properly diffuse dry my hair.

I will say after using this a few times, personally I think it looks better used with gel than without, but that’s because I need a lot of product structure to compensate for my looser curl pattern and general damage.

If you are experiencing frizzing or poor curl definition using this, try combining this product with a stronger hold gel or mousse and see if that helps like it helped me! Oh, and this smells amazing imo.

I can’t put my finger on it, it’s sweet kinda like fruit but not too overpowering. Complimentary from Briogeo Hair Care but these are my honest experiences with this product.

This product at first was great, my curls looked really hydrated and defined. Then I went to go wash my hair and I a lot of hair was coming out. I thought maybe i was just shedding a lot so I used it a couple more weeks and same thing hair was coming out in the shower when I was combing and finally on Saturday I washed again and sooo much hair came out it reminded me of when I was post partum.

I came on here and looked at reviews and sure enough someone else said the same thing bc if a certain ingredient called PPG-6. So I went and looked up all the ingredients of every hair product I used and sure enough this was the only product i used with this specific ingredient.

This is the only new product I all added to my hair regimen. I threw it in the trash. I washed my hair again and I shredded significantly less since stopping this product. I know everyone will not have this kind of reaction to the product but I did.

So beware.

I recently started wearing my hair natural again after 3+ years of heat styling. I have wavy hair (2B-ish). I use this product as my first styling product. After washing/conditioning, I use “praying hands” to smooth approximately two pea-sized amounts throughout my soaking wet hair, with my head upside down, and then I use a Denman brush to distribute the product evenly through all my hair.

I then apply my additional products and continue on styling. Throughout all the tutorials I watch and from what my stylist tells me, it’s important to use a leave-in or a curl cream, but creams can be more difficult for those with wavy and/or fine hair.

This Briogeo Leave-In Defining Creme is the perfect weight for my wavy, fine hair. It’s not too heavy, but I feel like I get a good amount of moisture before I start adding more product to my hair.

Just going to mention first that I didn’t buy this from Sephora, I got it from a FabFitFun box. I don’t know if I got an old one or my hair just doesn’t like this stuff. But judging from other reviews I read here, it seems like it just doesn’t go well with my hair.

My hair is normally pretty bouncy and shiny, with some small, uneven waves. I thought I’d try this to enhance my waves. (Plus, I was stuck with it because it came in a subscription box so it’s not like I could return it.

) But UGH the first time I used it, my hair got very dull, flat, and frizzy (only the layer by closest to my neck though?). I’ve tried it 2 more times and I can say that I definitely hate it. Last night was the last time I used it and today my hair is dead looking, and ironically EXTRA STRAIGHT?? Like what?? That doesn’t even make sense.

I hope that if I stop using it completely, my hair will go back to how it used to be. I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?.

I’m rather early in my natural curl journey and so trying a bunch of different products to see what works well for my hair. I generally really like Briogeo products, and have been using the Don’t Despair, Repair suite for years since my hair is color-treated.

My hair at this point is very long, mostly 3A curls with some 2C waves. This product was a total bust. I tried it along with the shampoo and conditioner (both of which I really liked), but this creme left my curls anything BUT defined – and that was with a gel on top.

They were limp and lackluster with no bounce, and the style didn’t last more than 2 days before I needed to rewash it. By contrast, when I used the Don’t Despair, Repair (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in) with some drugstore gel (Aussie Miracle Coil), my style was still going strong enough to be worn down on day 5.

The Curl Charisma creme + the gel (Zotos All About Curl high-definition creme) made my hair feel like straw and turn into a huge frizz poof. I tried the gel with a different pre-gel setup and it DEFINITELY contributed to the dry feeling and frizz, so I thought maybe I should just layer a different gel on top of this creme.

I know the Aussie Miracle Coils works well for me, so that’s what I used. Result is that my hair looked absolutely fantastic while it was air-drying, but six hours later, my curls are SERIOUSLY limp.

If I’d just used the Aussie gel alone they’d look 10 times better. Will now have to rewash my hair in another day or so. :(.

If you’re looking for a product that will help your curls clump together, this is a top notch candidate. To add some perspective, I used to use DevaCurl’s Touchable Curl Definer and it worked like magic on my 3a/3b curls for a long time.

Then it started to affect the texture of my hair in addition to causing more fallout, so stopped using that and had to start my search all over again. I’ve tried many “defining creams” from DS to HE and they just wouldn’t get the job done.

If the cream is not thick enough, it leaves me with stringy/frizzy curls (even when used with leave-in conditioners and topped with gel) which would drive me nuts. Curl Corps was the first cream that had the rich, thick texture that I was looking for that would hold my curls together and minimize the frizz.

That being said, everyone’s hair needs are different, but if you have my curl type and are looking for a product that will help clump your curls together, this cream is definitely worth a try.

Us curly girls know the struggle it is to find great products for our hair. It is even more of a challenge for those of us who have processed hair. My double processed platinum curls have never felt or looked more sensational in my life since using this product in combination with the curl corpse defining gel! Admittedly, I have not tried each one individually because I have always found most success in mixing a bit of cream and a bit of gel together for the best combination of shine and definition and hold.

It also takes such a small amount of product to get the desired result! It’s amazing – I never knew that curls could feel so soft and silky! The entire amika brand is simply amazing and their curl cream and curl defining gel reigns supreme without a doubt!.

Curl activating cream, it is a soft and somewhat heavy cream, a small amount is enough, I mix it in a pot with water so that there are no clumps left, you can also spread it well with a brush suitable for curls.

It can be left alone or put In addition, later, a fixative, gel, foam or mouse type for greater definition. It is free of sulfates, silicones and alcohols, suitable for the curly method. Apply with more than damp hair, rather wet, if you do it in the shower much better You can let it dry in the air, no dryer is necessary.

If you want more volume, use a diffuser. It smells tropical like a very pleasant suntan lotion. I’ve tried so many curly hair products over the years, and this one is both the least expensive AND the best one! I could not believe it. I typically always used gels because the Southern humidity is so strong here and I needed extra control, but this somehow does better to fight humidity than any gel or spray.

Curly hair needs moisture more than anything, so it makes sense that a moisturizing hair cream would work best. Also, it doesn’t leave your hair feeling “crunchy” or stiff. It’s super smooth, hydrating, and smells fantastic too! It’s definitely worth a try if you have curly hair.

Just make sure not to use too much at a time or it may leave white streaks that are hard to get out. I use about a dime-sized amount in each section of hair, and then go back and put extra on the ends to make sure it’s all distributed evenly.

Give it a shot!.

Full of moisturizing ingredients, especially oils, this cream is fairly thick so I recommend using the tiniest amount combined with A LOT of water. It will give you super soft feeling hair. I don’t know if it really “activated” my curls, I’ve used a lot of curl creams with similar results.

I like the ingredient line up though and will continue to use and purchase. One thing to note, this is a protein-free formula so balance your protein/moisture accordingly. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to change the packaging to a squeeze tube instead of this hard plastic bottle that makes it difficult to squeeze product out of.

That aside, it’s worth using.

I have 3b curls, and I’m always on the look out for a good hydrating styling cream and was excited when Oribe brought out their dedicated curl range. It took me a long time to figure out the best way to use this.

At first it was leaving my curls weighed down – the cream is very thick so I found it hard to gauge how much product to use. Now I use it on almost sopping wet hair, straight after the shower. You only need a little bit, and I quickly follow this crème with hair gel (curl jelly is my favourite) and diffuse dry.

I’m not a massive fan of the smell (it’s different to the gold lust range) but once you get the hang of a technique that works for you, it’s ok. On the plus side it has lasted me forever (I’ve had it for 9 months so far) so overall you get your money’s worth.

But this is not the curl styling product for me as it has led to too many bad hair days through trial and error. Will try Ouai curl crème next!.

WOW! This is the most incredible hair product. I’ve been using Oribe Gold Lust shampoo, conditioner, and oil for years. I decided to try this because many of the reviews I read were positive. This cream does everything it says it does, but to the touch it feels like nothing is there- it’s light as air, holds my curls in place, adds healthy shine, and makes my hair feel like silk to the touch.

I’m obsessed with this product- my only regret is that I didn’t find it sooner!.

I have wavy hair. I have tried a lot of hair products for curls and this one is the holy grail! it is both great for styling and moisturizing! I get beautiful soft curls without any crunchiness, great smell, easy to use! It is especially good for colored hair that can get dry.

The price is worth it. I have tried replacing it and nothing comes close!.

This is my go-to leave-in curl cream. It doesn’t weigh down my medium-thickness 2b strands and it doesn’t leave them in flyaway disarray either. It’s easy to use TOO much, so build up slowly or emulsify in your hands with a little water before applying to wet or damp tresses.

I get my best results from this cream when I apply it to my hair (avoiding the scalp) fresh from washing and plop it for a while. It leaves the sliiightest cast, which is easily scrunched out. The formula sometimes causes small breakouts on my neck, which is the reason why I award it four stars instead of five.

If you’re new to the wavy/curly world, consider giving this cream a try!.

My hair is very difficult so if that’s you; read this! I have curly/wavy hair and it’s so hard to tame. I suffer from dry hair so finding a product that works is hard and i usually have to mix products to get some type of relief.

Anyways this product smells okay, not horrible but not the best scent. It does offer some enhancing to my curls but I also have to use 2 other products. The only thing is if you use too much it leaves your hair gross/heavy/ Also my hair quickly got over this product and stopped getting curls and went flat.

I’m sure other people will be able to use this but my hair is so difficult.

I really wanted to LOVE THIS but something was off for me. I used this for a full month before reviewing. The smell is the best thing about this smoothie. When first applied it feels like a leave in conditioner and it smells great.

I usually air dry my curls and after putting mouse or oil they will curl naturally on their own into “romantic style†curls. HOWEVER with this smoothie the hair becomes limp heavy wavy and the product is essentially very waxy rather than moisturizing after drying.

I have no curls after using it just a frizzy mess after using this and even by twisting the smoothie into each strand as per the instructions to create curls it does not facilitate curls… the hair needs to be fully washed by the next day.

Additionally this broke me out so so badly. I couldn’t even keep my face on the pillow after using this product. My hair needed to be washed out the next day. Horrible breakouts on my face and back after using this and then they stopped once I stopped using it / stopped sleeping on my hair after putting this smoothie in.

You get a lot of product which is nice but it’s almost causing me more hassle by weighting down my hair and causing the need to wash more frequently and I have to avoid my hair touching my body while using it due to the thick clogging waxiness of it.

Smells great though. Like Piña colada’s.

This is my first influenster box and I’m so excited that I received one!! Nonetheless I am not going to be biased. When I used the shampoo it made my hair feel pretty rough and somewhat tangly after I washed the soap through.

It wasn’t a great feeling tbh. I used the conditioner, leaving it on for a few minutes which did help my hair feel a lot more softer. Honestly I wasn’t a huge fan of the smell from the shampoo or conditioner.

I used the curling cream which is AMAZING. The smell reminds me of the white Ferrero Rocher (which is my absolute favvv:)) I let my hair air dry and honestly it feels really soft I’m quite content!! I don’t know if the Olaplex helped with that or not I think overall I’d give this set a 4/5 stars.

The shampoo could do some working as it made my hair feel pretty rough before applying conditioner on.

Love this stuff. I usually don’t write reviews but adwoa has become my holy grail. I have super thick coarse curly/wavy (Arab/white mixed) hair and a lot of products are either way too light or too thick.

I tried the whole adwoa line and this gel and the oil are what i now use all the time. This “gel” leaves no crunch, just soft definition that for me lasts days (unlike other products where by day two I just have frizz).

It also comes in a large tub which is great and actually lasts a long while. Other products (like the jvn serum) i use in like 3 washes, this has lasted a long time. I also can get away with using just this on my hair (instead of conditioner/gel/oil) and the lazy part of me loves it.

OMG! Adwoa has become my favorite haircare brand!! Is the only brand that actually controls my frizz and really define my wavy/curly hair. My hair stays WITHOUT frizz ALL DAY LONG (just by letting it air dried!).

It’s real. This cream is mi favorite. It also leaves my hair super soft and with a beautiful glow. I have tried all hair care brands (Virtue, Gisou, Briogeo, Olaplex, Ouai, Living Proof, Moroccanoil, Pattern, etc, and none of these have left my hair so pretty and controlled!!)
