When working with variegated yarn, you can use any stitch you like. The important thing is to choose a stitch that will show off the yarn’s color variation to its best advantage. Some stitches to consider include the following:
– Single Crochet: This is a very basic stitch that is easy to work and produces a tight, dense fabric. It is a good choice if you want the colors in your yarn to stand out clearly.
– Half Double Crochet: This is a slightly larger stitch than single crochet, and it produces a fabric that is more open and airy. This is a good choice if you want the colors in your yarn to blend together more.
– Double Crochet: This is an even larger stitch than half double crochet, and it produces a very open and lacy fabric. This is a good choice if you want the colors in your yarn to blend together even more.
– Shell Stitch: This is a stitch that creates a series of scalloped shells across the fabric. It is a good choice if you want to add a bit of texture to your project.
– Popcorn Stitch: This is a stitch that creates a small, round “popcorn” shape. It is a good choice if you want to add a bit of texture and interest to your project.

feels more like string. Says cotton . Would not use for anything you want to feel soft. Not sure what I would use this for. Bought for a blqanket but not happening.
I chose a blue/green ombre color in this yarn. After knitting just a few rows, I noticed the dye from the yarn was discoloring my fingers! No, my hands were not wet or sweaty. Then I more carefully looked at the label, which says colors may run and the 100% cotton yarn should be dry cleaned, although the pattern on the label is how to make wash cloths.
Really? Lesson learned, and I will never buy this yarn again.
I bought a couple balls of Craftsaver tweed yarn and just loved it. Went back the next week and stocked up for winter projects. It feels so nice as the fabric is worked up. I am very tactile and found this yarn is really a joy to work with.
A luxurious soft and cozy yarn Bernat Blanket Brights is a chenille-style yarn that’s perfect for home décor projects. From blankets to crochet baskets Blanket Brights is ideal for a wide range of projects.
It’s super bulky weight stitches up quickly making it a great choice for afghans and blankets. Available in a new range of bright shades to compliment your home décor. Conveniently machine washable and dryable for easy care.
Beautiful yarn to work with. Works up so quick and feels lovely. I bought 4 in total, 3 for main body of a blanket and 1 for the boarder, side of a lap blanket (approx) very soft and snug. Lovely sparkle throughout which fortunately doesn’t feel scratchy neither.
Would defiently consider purchasing again in the future.
Omg the softest thing ever!!! The colour is beautiful and so easy to work with!!! Love the feel when making a blanket or making packsacks!! The colours they use is amazing and lasts a long time!! The price is right when u find it in Walmart!!! I recommend if you are crocheting or knitting!!! Must buy!!!.
The yarn is good. The colors are bright, and the quality seems to be good as well. However, the skein, or as they call it, a ball of yarn, is just that. It has been very difficult to pull as I spend a lot of time untangling it instead of knitting.
Its like a backlashed fishing real. Thought it was maybe just the fist one, but I am now on my 3rd and they have all been tangled and hard to pull without stopping to untangle.

I decided to try knitting again at 56 – I had failed miserably when I was younger – a combination, I think, of having tried to be taught as a left hander by right-handed people, and being given cheap, icky feeling yarn to practice on.
Well, YouTube and Sugar ‘n Cream to the rescue! I was able to find a technique that worked and this lovely yarn that felt wonderful in my hand, yet wasn’t too precious for me to be afraid to make mistakes.
On my first two projects, I was able to create dishcloths as samples that had crisp stitch definition and so I could see as I was going what I could do to improve as I went along, and the yarn felt great as I was working it.
As a cotton yarn, there was some separation of the threads, but that also helped me be more conscious of the knitting process.
I thought this yarn was so cute and I grabbed a free Michael’s pattern for the Crochet Market Bag when I bought the yarn. I was very pleased with the jute yarn. It is very sturdy. The natural jute yarn in “Ombre” has just small bits of color mingled into the mostly natural color and is perfect for the cute market bag.
The bag turned out nice and the yarn will be plenty strong enough to support any items I decide to carry in it!.

I learned to knit years ago but never finished a project. Decided to give it another try. Made a scarf for my daughter for Christmas. I love this yarn. I’m a very very beginning knitter and although I made the scarf a little too wide, it came out really nice.
Too bad it’s now out of stock in all colors at stores near by me. Hopefully it will be back in stock soon. Beautiful colors.
I purchased this yarn for an afghan and I loved the tones and the way the colors face in and out of the yarn to mimic an ombre- it’s truly a beautiful color. However, the yarn itself is very difficult to work with.
Once you work it, its almost impossible to rework because it becomes fuzzy. I’m having trouble with the yarn gauge consistency (for some reason it twists upon itself while working – have tried from outside of the skein and inside of the skein for starting, have tried looser stitches, etc and still fighting with the yarn.
I’m debating on returning what I have but I want the afghan I was making, but definitely never buying this yarn again.
I love how the colors mesh together. I love the thickness. I love the softness. I love the warmth due to some wool mixed with the acrylic. I love that it’s machine washable. I love how my afghan is starting to look; so beautiful.
The only complaint, and it’s small, is that if you need to frog, it really does not like it. lol But, I do LOVE this yarn!.

The higher the number, the thinner the thread. Very nice for a lacey touch or trim. Use a loose tension so that you can wash and dry it without the trim shrinking more than the garment it is attached to.
If you use a 1. 3 size crochet hook, you can go through a 6/0 size bead. Always use a high quality Japanese bead with a consistent hole size, otherwise you will waste a lot of money on beads that don’t fit the crochet hook.
unt Lydia’s® Classic Cotton Crochet Thread Select a rating below ★★★★★ ★★★★☆ ★★★☆☆ ★★☆☆☆ ★☆☆☆☆ Your review Can’t enter text? Click here to start rating. I am disappointed because I can’t get the violet color in the thicker #3.
The violet is better than the lighter purple for my purposes. I am being forced to use 2 of the 10 which is a harder to do – but necessary.
I love this product. I have purchased many colors & am crocheting a few projects for my son’s wedding. This cotton thread is perfect for the dolies & table runner I am making. My future daughter-in-law asked me to crochet a runner for their memorial table & wants to pass it along in the family.
Using aunt Lydia’s product I know the runner will last for many future generations.

I love this yarn. Red Heart is always my go to yarn. Kinda starchy before washing but definitely soft after it has been washed. It will outlast you and handmade baby blankets can be passed to each new generation.
My grandmother knitted blankets for me that were well used and then I used for my son and now they’re in storage for his first born. This yarn has come a long way but the quality has not changed. Extremely easy care.
Machine wash and machine dry. Definitely works for me! I would definitely, without hesitation, buy again. I have an issue but not with the yarn itself. Red heart solids have no dye lot which I really appreciate but multi colored or shades do have a dye lot.
One of my pet peeves is trying to get matching dye lots and trying to make it work when they don’t. I asked that the 4 skeins that I ordered be shipped to me hoping to get the same dye lot. The store had one skein in stock so they shipped me one skein from the store.
The 4 skeins will not be shipped together so the odds of having the same dye lot is slim to none. I appreciate that Walmart is trying to get the merchandise to the buyers quickly but some items require special handling.
I received 1 skein today but if there were a box to check indicating that I wanted all items shipped together, I would definitely use it. Also, a single trip to my house is much better for the environment.
It may even reduce costs for the items. I’m not singling out Walmart, I wish all stores had this option.
I crochet cushy lapghans for an area hospice. Because most people seek warmth during that time, I double my strands in each project. Including a strand of the Red Heart Ombre adds interest and lives up some pieces as the shading of the colors is softer and less noticeable, so the work is both useful and pretty.
So many yarns today offer variations of colors that stop and start so abruptly; the soft shading of natural coloration of each yarn. Only drawback for me is that Red Heart has stopped creating soft to the touch yarn (unlike its With Love line which is soft) and I surely with the Ombre mimicked it.
I used some of this yarn several years ago, it was fine. Not a high quality yarn, but ok. Purchased some the other day and began knitting a hat for my daughter. Working with this stuff is akin to knitting with plastic coated twine.
No matter how loose my stitches, the yarn sticks horribly. The only two good things I have to say about it, are the colors and it doesn’t split. I’m having to get some stainless needles in hopes it will help, cause with bamboo, it’s terrible.
Petra is a quality crochet thread with natural, mercerized 100% cotton thread that does not go fluffy or knot easily. Petra thread is combed, singed by flame and twice mercerized which gives it its strength and softness.
Petra Thread is a 100% long staple cotton 2 ply thread. With its exceptional brightness and softness. Knitting and crochet designs progress quickly and easily. This package contains 100g (306 yards) of size 3 cotton thread.
Available in a variety of colors. Each sold separately. Machine washable, dry clean safe, iron safe, do not bleach. Imported.
This thread is excellent quality. It’s strong and works up nicely. Also has a slight sheen. I particularly like the fact that it’s Size 5. Size 10, which is more popular, is just too fine for my 73-year-old eyes to clearly see, and Size 3 is a little too chunky for crocheting snowflakes.
This thread is perfect for crocheting snowflakes and angels. Highly recommend.
I bought several different colors (i. e. white, ecru, purple, blue, green, black) a couple of months ago and was ecstatic when the thread arrived. The thread is high quality and wonderful to work with – very soft but stays together (doesn’t easily split).
I’ve used it in making hats and have received compliments on the colors, so I will definitely be ordering this thread again. One cautionary note: though I really loved the colors, they are much brighter and more vibrant than shown on the website.
For instance, I was expecting more of a forest/tree green and what arrived was closer to a bright grass green. Similarly, I was expecting a medium ocean-like blue, but the color was more of a medium aqua (the rest were accurate).
That said, out of all the other brands of crochet thread I’ve tried, DMC has the best colors and is by far my favorite!.
I love it he Petra crochet thread. The colors are beautiful and the thread is easy to bowl with. The price is a little higher than other brands I have purchased, but there is almost twice as much thread.

The projects you make deserve soft, beautiful fiber — and that’s where Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn comes in! This bulky-weight yarn works up quickly and the bold colors help you add a handmade touch to any room.
Grab this versatile cotton/nylon blend to bring your next blanket, pillow, floor pouf or basket to life.
I loved just about everything with this yarn. The colors were wonderful and it is a very easy yarn to work with. It does not have any stretch to it, so if you need stretch in your work, this would not be the right yarn to use.
I also found that because it has more defined structure than typical yarn, it also does not make the best yarn for certain stitch patterns. The Chinese Wave pattern in this yarn did not give me the clearly defined rows and stitch gaps that I was looking for.
It was beautiful even still, but just not what I wanted. So if you’re aiming for something very specific in a pattern you have already seen in another kind of yarn, best try some test runs on this yarn before investing in the full skein supply.
It is beautiful and has a lot to offer for the right pattern. This is a zero pilling and zero fuzz type of yarn too, so if that is important, you’ll have no problems here with either of those!.
I have not had one issue with this yarn! Except to find what to make with it! I have made blankets, scarves and a pillow case with this and I need more projects! It doesn’t fall apart or fray unless the outside cover of the tubing is damaged.
It’s easy to cut the damage away and tie right back to itself though. Knots hold well that I have made. I didn’t come across many manufacture knots, which is something a lot of fellow crocheters worry about.
They do happen in all yarn, but I have not found many at all. I love the feeling of this yarn after it has gone through the wash and dry! It’s so soft and very warm!.
I am addicted to this yarn. It is so soft with absolutely none of the scratchy fuzz. It has an inner core that’s like foam plush and an outer seamless cloth like a t-shirt feel. I’m making an infinity scarf with it and while I was a vendor at an event, selling my jewelry, a lady walked up to me as I was knitting and asked if I was selling any scarves because she loved the feel if those comfy chunky yarns.
You can even sew one end of one ball to the beginning part of another ball without it looking weird. Love love! just go touch it, its so nice.
Buy the Bernat Toasty Stitch ‘n Win Yarn at Michaels. Bernat Toasty Yarn is soft and bulky which makes it perfect for designing your stylish accessories and decorative accents for your home.
Using a pattern from Yarnspirations Crochet Big Basketweave Blanket, created for this yarn. It takes 13 skeins of yarn. You really have to watch your stitches because they are hard to see. It is a heavy soft texture blanket.
Color Antler. Planning on washing it before giving as a gift.
I crocheted a blanket and it took 6 skeins and now I am going back for another skein to make the fringes. Great and soft yarn. It is a roving yarn and although the balls seem very large they really aren’t so if you intend to make an afghan or a blanket then get enough of that color the first time.
I Love this yarn. Til it came out, my favorite yarn was Bernat Blanket yarn. I’ve knitted a couple 14″ throw pillows in of couple colors. Each one was pure joy to work with, & I have yarn to make 4 “more” different colored throw pillows.

I haven’t used it yet but bought it on the recommendation of my daughter in South Africa who made the most beautiful shawl with it and loved the yarn. Will send a photo when it’s done. Thank you for your very efficient delivery and friendly service.
Will definitely be coming back to you. Kind regards, Jenny.
This is my first ever Yarn Cake I have purchased. I am amazed at the softness of the yarn and the colours are beautiful. I can’t wait to start my Crochet Shawl I am going to make with it. Also thank you Emma for a fabulous quick service, ordered Saturday morning and it arrived today Monday.
Amazingly soft and squishy and a huge yarn cake for the money. Feels like good value! Lovely colours. Came really well wrapped to keep dry and a lovely thank you card which was a nice touch. Quick delivery.
With Zpagettigarn you can crochet or knit quickly and easily in giant sizes. It is made from high quality, durable and recycled remnants from the fashion and textile industry. It is recommended to use a needle thickness of 12-15 mm.
I bought this yarn to make a heavy blanket. I didn’t need a typical weighted blanket as they are too heavy for me. With this yarn I made a blanket that weighs about 9. 5 lbs. and I love it! It’s breathable and comfortable.
Yes, the thickness isn’t consistent and yes, there are the occasional odd strings. But that’s because it’s made of recycled fabric and I’m okay with it. It’s not the prettiest blanket I’ve made, but its my current favorite to use.
And even so, I think it has a certain charm and character. My only advice for anyone who wants to use it is: Buy enough for your project! I didn’t and had to order more so I ended up with two distinct shades of green.
Inprdered three balls of this yarn for a project. Upon recieving them, twonwere similar looking (color and size) and one looked bigger and darker. I started using the two matching colors, when i finished the first ball, i realized the second one was significantly thinner and a different material (the first was what i expected, like a typical t-shirt, the second ball was more like a sports jersey).
I looked at the third ball, that one is more like the second but much darker. I made what i had work (not much of a choice!) but while working the second ball, I found so many cuts in the yarn. They are tied together poorly, so ive lost almost a foot so far in properly tying the yarn together, and I’ve only just started using it.
Rico Essentials Crochet is a 100% mercerised cotton yarn. The mercerisation process gives the cotton a lustrous sheen, making this a lovely fine and smooth yarn with excellent definition. Equivalent to crochet cotton size No.

I have made a number of blankets and shawls with this yarn. It’s a great value and I love the softness (especially after washing!), and durability. However, I’ve had a number of cakes that have quality control issues.
Sometimes the yarn is so loosely plied that it splits and snags easily, requiring careful work. Other times, the stripes are either out of order, or one color is omitted entirely. One cake had four colors instead of five, and the color that was omitted appeared to be blended with the one next to it, so there was an extremely long repeat of a middle color that wasn’t present in the other cakes.
Another cake had a ridiculously short length of one color (approximately 20″) that threw off the pattern entirely, and I had to splice in part of another cake to make the color changes consistent. I can live with these issues for the most part, although they are annoying.
I wish Cascade would work on their quality control. However, I’ll continue to buy this yarn as long as Webs continues to stock it, as the pros outweigh the cons for me.
I’ve used this yarn before, and loved it, thus took the opportunity to purchase more. I have been disappointed with these skeins. There should be five even colors, of approximately 40 g each. One skein was significantly short on a particular color, and another had only 4, repeating one and omitting another entirely.
These defects can really mess up a project, and I’ve had to adjust my planned use accordingly. One skein also has a number of places of thick and thin and/or fuzziness, apparently where yarn was joined.
This particular yarn will be new experience for me. The feel is soft and its squishy Whirligig self-striping yarn as it flows into the pattern the final results will be amazing. I chose color #14 there are many to choose from.
Its 60% Superwash Merino Wool ,20% Nylon ,20% Acrylic Machine washable and tumble dry.
The order quantity equal to 1 contains one roll of yarn. The image shown is just an example of the possible colour variations. Hoooked Zpagetti Fabric yarn is made of excess from the textile industry, more specific by t-shirt fabric.
Hoooked Zpagetti Fabric yarn consists of 92% cotton and 8% other materials. These other materials are usually lycra and elastane. The weight of the yarn might be different, but they contain all min. 120 meters.
The yarn might be different I both thickness and quality. Hoooked Zpagetti Fabric yarn is great for pillows, rags, carpets and bags. From a roll you can knit a piece of approx. 50x50cm. The image shown is just an example.
A luxurious, soft and cozy yarn, Bernat Blanket is a chenille-style yarn thats perfect for home dcor projects. From blankets, to crochet baskets, Blanket is ideal for a wide range of projects. Its super bulky weight stitches up quickly, making it a great choice for afghans and blankets.
Available in a wide range of solid and variegate shades to compliment your home dcor. Economical big ball size for larger projects. Conveniently machine washable and dryable.
This yarn makes a beautiful baby blanket. It’s very soft. I have two negatives, though. It sheds white fuzz on everything it touches. I was crocheting in the car and had the ball of yarn on the floor.
I noticed my pants were covered with white fuzz from where I had the blanket sitting. Also, my black carpet was covered with white fuzz which was very difficult to vacuum up. My other complaint is the strands separate very easily, making it difficult bring the hook back through a loop quickly without catching one of the strands.
These things are probably what makes the finished product so soft but they can be problems as well.
I bought this yarn to crochet a baby blanket, and I’m really not a big fan of it. For a yarn called Softee, I feel like it’s really not all that soft. And the weirdest thing is, the texture and feel varies so much between 2 different shades of the same exact yarn.
I bought lilac and white, and the lilac has much more of a soft, smooth feel, while the white is like a rougher less soft yarn and also feels a bit thicker and looks more dull. If I’d seen both of them without the labels on, I’d swear they were 2 totally different types of yarn.
Kind of frustrating since I’m using them both for the same project, and expected them to feel the same.
I sell knitted baby hats and blankets so consistent quality is a requirement for my materials. I tried this yarn out for the first time after my original go-to brand discontinued 3 of my most popular colors.
Bernat’s baby blanket yarn colors were very similar to the colors I used previously so I decided to test it out. first of all, this yarn is SO much softer and nicer than what I had been using! I actually knit myself a hat with some of the extra yarn because I loved it so much lol.
my customers are really happy with how soft my blankets are so I’m happy too. thank you Joann!.

What I like about this yarn is the softness. However, I do not like the consistent pattern throughout the yarn. It ends up leaving dark and light patches in your final piece. Some of the other brands have more random patterns which allow for a better-looking final product.
Also, the dye lots can be very inconsistent. If you are going to order online, you may end up having to go to the store to swap out, which in the end saves you no time in shopping. The price is also very high.
Wait for it to go on sale and use a coupon in order for it to be a reasonable price.
I have made 3 blankets so far using lion brand off the hook yarn and now working on my 4th. Overall this yarn is very beginner and user friendly. I have no experience prior to crochet or knitting and I caught on to this quickly with the help of YouTube.
I used 9-10 skeins to make 2 of my blankets. The other was a baby blanket. The quality of the yarn is decent I’ve used dark and stormy, blue sapphire, and the crayola colors. The quality control was the worst I saw with the blue sapphire yarn.
I had an issue with one skin missing almost a whole rows worth of loops which was frustrating to have to stop and start again but other than that I had no issues. It isn’t as soft as comparable brands but definitely makes a soft, thick, and warm blanket.
For the price I definitely recommend especially if you’re a beginner like me with yarn crafts.
I purchased a few skeins to make the llama pillow. I haven’t finished it yet, but it was easy to work with and a lot of fun. The reason that I am only giving it 3 stars is because I am concerned about durability.
I am an experienced knitter who has worked with a variety of yarns including premium quality. I think that this yarn is fine for crafts and perhaps a scarf for kids or a gift to grandma or teacher. It would certainly work for blankets but I think that the fibers will wear off and the blanket could easily tear due to the structure of it (toes getting caught in loops).
It is fine for light use like a shawl, a lap quilt, a coverlet, a doll blanket, a “blankie” that little ones like to drag around and lay on the floor with. But as far as a blanket that will get hard use (think teenage boys) I have my doubts.
Don’t hesitate to try it. Again, this is a great craft yarn for grandparents/parents/kids or for brownies/girlscouts to work on as a project. Just wash it on delicate or handwash (who wants to do that?) and dry it on low so that the fibers do not melt.

I have not used the DMC Petra Crochet Thread in the past and am totally impressed with the softness and yardage in one little ball. I’m thinking headbands, bracelets and other accessories.
It has the feel, warmth and softness of wool with the easy care of acrylic. Perfect for extra warm sweaters, jackets, vests, slippers and hats. It’s an ideal beginner yarn.
I am very disappointed with lion brand yarn. I have had issues with weight consistency in the homespun yarn and the Sequoia print wool ease. The Sequoia print looks so beautiful! I thought it would be a quick knit.
Unfortunately it was a huge waste of money. The Sequoia print yarn has golden stripes in it. Each time a golden stripe appears the yarn doubles in weight! A golden yarn is simply added to the brown yarn causing it to be twice as thick.
I have had no luck trying to disguise this in a number of patterns that I have tried! I had the same problem with the homespun yarn. I think I need to stick to loops and threads yarn!.
With this bulky yarn, I can loom knit an adult sized hat in about an hour, 1-2 hats per skein depending on size. I love that it has wool, and it feels softer now than it used to, so I don’t know if they changed the formula or something.
Perfect yarn for those on a budget, especially when you can always use your Michael’s coupons. Large selection of colors to choose from and good amount of yardage in each skein.
I purchased this yarn for a scarf (Stormy Waters crochet Infinity Scarf) that called for a #4 Lion Brand Landscape yarn, not available at Michaels. This yarn is thicker than the suggested yarn so my scarf is thicker and works up larger than the recommended yarn, but I found the yarn easy to use, no tangles, no knots but one continuous yarn.
I even pulled out stitches when I found an error and was able to rework the yarn with no fraying or tangles. Even worked the yarn from the center and found it easy to pull out (once I worked up the initial pull from the middle to find the start/end).
I’ve never used such yarn before and found it a pleasure to work. I did have to buy extra because of the weight of the yarn. Recommend hook for project was J (I used J rather than adjust hook size because the weight of the yarn felt like the hook size was right for it).
Instead of 2 skeins to reach 53”, I needed 4 skeins and reached 60”.
There are a few things to keep in mind when crocheting with variegated yarn. The first is that the colors will pool and stripe in a predictable way, so it’s important to swatch to get an idea of how the colors will interact.
The second is that variegated yarn can be more difficult to see your stitches, so it’s important to use a contrast color for your crochet hook. Finally, because the colors are constantly changing, it can be difficult to tell when you’ve made a mistake.
If you find a mistake, don’t be afraid to rip out a few stitches and start again. With a little practice, you’ll be able to create beautiful projects with variegated yarn.
