20 Best Bikes For Work Commute (2023 Updated)

I purchased this bike brand new from someone on FB market. It was NEW, assembled at REI bike techs. I have spent copious amounts of money trying to fix this bike. It just has so many issues, mostly due to how it’s made.

The gears are cheaply made and it causes the chain to slip because the gears aren’t accommodating the chain mechanism. I’ve taken this bike to several bike shops to have it fixed and they are unable to fix it without completely redoing and installing new gears, and chain, and chain mechanism.

It’s honestly a waste of money. You’re better off investing a few more hundred dollars in a bike brand name than to mess around with something like this bike that’s so cheaply made. I feel bad writing this review but it is honest and I think people should know what they’re getting into.

Retrospec customer service was quite unhelpful when I reached out in regards to helping me find parts that needed to be replaced claiming that the bike shops I’d taken the bike to were incorrect about their diagnosis.

Ok but still the bike is unridable, help me ride this product that you sell. I’ve spent about 500 on this bike total at this point purchasing it and getting it fixed up at bike shops, buying parts for it etc.

REI won’t buy it, nor will Play it Again Sports, nor will any other of the 5 local bike shops I tried selling it to in Seattle. ALL of them said that the brand wasn’t something they were able to sell in their stores- especially with the gears needing to be redone it would cost them more to fix it then they would get selling it.

Aside the gears and chain, the physical materials this bike is made out of are so cheap. The break handle completely fell apart in my hand the first time I tried riding it. The lever broke in half. This is not due to assembly error but it’s just the material / poor design.

This bike looks so cute and seems like it would be great but the mechanism for the gears does not accommodate the chain system which is what is causing the chain slipping that SEVERAL other reviews are mentioning.

I hope this review is helpful for the less experienced bikers like myself. Just go to a Sporting Goods store and talk to someone in the industry. Simply look at the amounts of listing on FB Market of people trying to get rid of these bikes in your area.

Let me start by saying I’m no bike aficionado but I’ve ridden my share of bikes recreationally over the years. I’m 61 and this bike is great! Came well packaged and was easy to put together. It’s lighter weight than I expected and it’s really a simple, elegant riding machine.

The fact that it’s only one gear makes it a smooth, quiet ride (no derailleur or chain noise). And even though it has skinny tire, the ride isn’t harsh at all (but I only ride roads and pavement). The seat is comfortable for a bicycle seat.

It I want cushy, I get off my bike and sit in my recliner. I debated what size to get and after reading the reviews decided on the medium even though I’m 5’10”. I’m glad I did. The upper crossbar fits comfortably under my 32” inseam.

I got the Slate color and the black rims and brown seat and grips look classy. It’s a good-looking, simple, elegant ride and fir $299 I don’t think you can beat it.

I got this bike to commute to and from the gym and run short errands. I was not expecting to have so many issues. The bike owners manual they give you is very general. They give you the same manual no matter which bike you get.

I’ve had multiple flats after only 2-3 miles of riding. The manual does not provide information on how to fix this issue. It just says take it to a shop. After more inspection it seems the rim tape is not covering spoke holes and my tube keeps going flat in the same spot.

Perhaps I caused the issue and this is all user error, but I’ve been really unhappy with the bike. I was expecting something more beginner friendly and perhaps some more resources. I’d recommend not setting up the bike yourself and taking it to a shop.

Just keep in mind the costs on top of the purchase price before buying.

The Schwinn marshall hybrid electric bike is absolutely amazing. It’s great quality, sleek and smooth, and is an easy way to get both adults and kids out of the house and active again! Not only does it look like something from the future but the option to use the throttle or get a boost while pedaling put this bike amongst the coolest things on earth! It’s a super smooth ride and it can quickly reach upwards of 20 mph with little to no effort.

The battery is nice as well, it charges in 2 hours and last all day, unless riding uphill using only the throttle for several hours straight. Schwinn out did themselves with this bike, there’s plenty of options and upgrades of you want to make the world’s best bike even better! I would highly recommend checking out this electric bike! It does not disappoint.

We were just out in Keystone Colorado and me and some friends decided to rent some E-bikes. That was it, I was hooked. Did some looking around and realized I could spend as much as I wanted on this, there was a lot to choose from.

Read some reviews and decided on the HIBOY. Great choice (so far). Have a few suggestions for the manufacturer. The pic of the headlight, you guys need to supply a washer that spans the wire mount. The bolt just separates the mount and it never really tightens well.

Integrate a water bottle mount. I had to use some jinky bar-clamp mount. The seat that it comes with is horribly uncomfortable. In all fairness, I’m a big fella, so that might have something to do with it.

Replaced it with a wider seat. much better. Replaced the Handlebar Stem. Needed one that sat higher and back a bit more. again. big fella. Replaced the pedals. no reason. these just look cool. All in all, very pleased with it! Update: Has been 10 days with this bike, nearly 200 miles later I’m still loving it.

One other point, this bike will not go 28 MPH. 22 MPH is the best it will do.

My brother and I have been using HIBOY for a while now and this bike is the best we’ve seen so far. It’s a very powerful and fast E-Bike and perfect for my commute to work. This bike is just as good on road as it is off road.

Has great suspension for those off road rides and can switch through 9 gears! The pedal assist saves me a ton of battery and I road to work twice without needing to charge. The battery comes out easily with 2 keys they give you.

The bike is pretty big but is also a lot lighter than I thought it would be. If you wanna take the battery out to charge at home , you can and the bike will be a little lighter. I got mine in grey but the black looks just as cool! This bike goes easily over 20mph and the motor isn’t as loud like some other E-Bikes on the market.

Awesome E-Bike and I definitely recommend. Worth every penny!.

A very solid bike for the price point. Is it trying to do anything fancy? No, but it is a great option for someone looking to get from A to B without breaking the bank. When I was researching this as a gift for my girlfriend, I noticed a few complaints about the weight and the build quality.

To those points, I would say the following: Weight: overall, the bike is not super light, so it can be a little unwieldy when trying to load it into a vehicle. That said, it is not too heavy, and rides fairly smoothly.

The bigger factor is how the weight is distributed across the bike (center of gravity, in essence). Most of the weight feels like it sits between the rider and the rear wheel, with the front feeling very light in comparison.

This is not an issue in any way, but it does create a bit of a learning curve for cornering, as well as for stopping on down-slopes. Just be aware that it will take some getting used to. Build quality: lined up with what I would expect for the price point.

The frame and primary components seem solid, and while some of the smaller nuts and bolts for things like the fenders are a little on the soft side, they didn’t present any issue for me on install. As a side note, I did the initial assembly of the bike upon receipt just to make sure nothing was missing or obviously damaged, but I took it to a shop for final alignment, tightening, and tuning setup.

There were no issues to be found, and it was pretty intuitive to assemble, to the point where I almost didn’t need the instructions. What I will say is that the brakes needed significant adjustment out of the box, which is part of the reason I entrusted the initial setup to professionals.

My GF and I have ridden the bike several times now on variable length trips (1 mile – 20 miles), and the bike performed reasonably well for all use cases. The seat did get a touch uncomfortable toward the end of the 20 mile trip, but not to the point of being unbearable (I should also mention that this is coming from the stance of someone who is not used to sitting on bike seats for any length of time).

It rides and shifts well through the midrange gears, but gets a bit noisy in the lowest gear, and the highest gear is feels like it really only wants to be used when going down a pretty steep hill to try to build speed.

The weight in the tail is also very noticeable when climbing steep grades, encouraging the rider to lean forward more than usual, but not to an uncomfortable degree. Overall, this is a very usable and well priced bike.

It isn’t perfect, but it exceeded my expectations. I have not had it long enough to comment on long term reliability/ serviceability. P. S. I would strongly consider upgrading the brakes if planning to use this bike in hilly environments or as a daily rider, just for a bit of extra stopping power and response.

The rear brakes in particular can feel a bit soft, especially when traveling with loads such as groceries.

I love bikes. I have eight – yes eight – bicycles. From my antique Raleigh to the Retrospec Beaumont I bought from you last year, I love riding each bike for various reasons. I have biked the Natchez Trace, the Carolina Low Country and most recently, rode from Miami to Key West on a bike.

I live and breathe bicycles. However, my bike trip trough Florida almost killed my enthusiasm. I witnessed a horrible bike accident and had a close call of my own. When I returned home from the trip, I put my bikes away and rode only occasionally on trails where motor vehicles were not allowed.

Then the gas prices started rising and I realized it was silly to fire up my SUV to travel the 3 miles to work each day. I used to be an avid bicycle commuter and knew I could get to work on a less expensive mode of transportation using “girl power.

” But I’m out of shape, the commute home is completely uphill (long, steep climb) and then there’s the whole trauma-inspired fear I face when I ride alongside motorists. I knew Retrospec was a good company and that the Beaumont bike I already had was easy to use, comfortable and GORGEOUS.

so I purchased a Beaumont e-bike, thinking the extra push might help me at least conquer the hills. It was love at first ride. Not only am I commuting to work again, I have somehow overcome my fear of biking in traffic (the sturdy frame and the quick responsiveness of the motor have made me feel safer for some reason).

I know before long I’ll be back in shape and will be riding regular bikes again, but I think I’ve found my main mode of transportation with the Retrospec e-bike. This bike is so much fun to ride that I am looking for excuses to make quick trips to the grocery store, just so I can hop on my e-bike and zoom into town.

I’ve had the bike 3 months now. Tool a while to even ride since it was shipped without the necessary tools and accessories. Took over a week to get proper response from customer service and even more time waiting for the replacements.

Kick stand is not meant for this bike. Its way too short and not sturdy enough. I have to find the right angle of the front wheel on a perfectly even and smooth surface to get it to stay up. A slight breeze easily pushed it over.

And the paint job just doesn’t hold up. This bike is easily scratched and without a firm kickstand this bike had seen way too many scratches. So three months in now starting to rust from the paint easily scratched.

That’s the bike on its own, now attached the dog carrier that was purchase from this same brand purposely to fit and the bike has no chance to stand on its own. Always need to rest it on something and need two people to load the pets since it feels wobbly for them.

Tried adding after market baskets to front or back and nothing seems to fit right. Couldn’t add standard bottle holder, either. In summary, while it’s pretty, design and functional elements need further work.

Have been riding it for a couple of weeks now, and out of the 10+ bikes I’ve had in my life, I have to say this is probably my favorite. I ride it pretty regularly and pretty hard (maybe 100 miles/week) and have found loads of things that I love and very little I dislike.

PROS: 1. Just can’t get over how good it looks. The color on its own is a very sleek matte blue, but it looks even better paired with the brown sidewalls on the factory tires. The yellow-orange accents really pop against the blue.

2. The ride is honestly very comfortable for the seating position. Was a bit worried about the seat at first, but have found myself to have no real discomfort even when riding upwards of 20 miles. Leaning position is aggressive enough that you can really crank out some speed, but not so much that you will need to go see the chiropractor.

Overall a great balance of being rugged, nimble, and comfortable. 3. Good Components. Seat is great for it’s size and weight. The pedals are honestly much better than I was expecting, strong with nice grip studs.

The grips are my favorite ergo grips I’ve had, comfortable but firm enough that you can put your weight on your palms. Brake levers and shifters are all solid, nothing fancy but seamless to use and suit the bike well.

CONS: 1. Only have one, and it’s hardly a con since I knew what I was getting, but the Acera gear system definitely leaves much to be desired. This is to be expected as it is pretty much Shimano’s bottom tier.

Oftentimes the shifts can be a bit clunky, and occasionally it will miss a gear until I shift again (usually only when increasing gear). Also often find myself wishing for a 9th and 10th gear. That being said, the value for the bike is still fabulous.

The 1×8 drivetrain is simple and works well most of the time, and is a relatively easy replacement down the road that will make my bike perfect. In my opinion, it’s not enough of a con to think about giving the bike less than 5 stars.

Overall, the bike feels perfect for what I bought it for, which is commuting in a semi-urban town with lots of traffic and not many bike lanes. This thing turns heads and rides great, and for some crazy reason it isn’t super popular (there’s like 5 reviews and 2 videos about it on the entirety of the internet), so you will more than likely be the only one in town riding this bad boy.

I bought this 3 months ago and have put almost 200 miles on it. Great all-around bike! The lack of a front derailleur is actually great and is my first time selecting this configuration. No chain drops in the front gear anymore, less maintenance.

Rear derailleur is TIGHT, chain shifts with a direct nearly immediate metal to metal contact with a satisfying audible “chink. ” Shifting is very responsive. Brakes are decent considering they’re tektro’s.

Would prefer shimano’s as they’re much more responsive and grip harder. MSRP price point is a little steep for components included, however I got this on sale and will say that’s a great value. Tires are a unique size and wide and treaded enough for gravel and mixed pack while also being low-profile enough to provide a smooth and near frictionless ride on pavement.

Colorway is just so crisp and the yellow makes for great static visibility. Overall frame design yields a comfortable riding stance, I am 6’ and purchased the Large frame size. The seat is comfortable for casual rides but I do throw on my chamois for anything over 7-8 miles.

Put on a Brooks saddle, still breaking in. New stem with some rise and a little more reach. New bars as well. Rear rack and fenders have worked out well, and they’re nothing fancy. The rack mounts a pair of Moosetrek panniers which are my usual grocery getters.

Derailleurs beginning to show their price point. New Shimano MTB cables. (I ride some gravel). Trying out pedals, right now a pair of Shimano SPD clip less with the Shimano flat body attachment. Blinky tail light and a flashing front light.

A pair of 38 tires coming, fenders might have to go, if they don’t fit the frame I’ll mention it here. The tires made it a year, but pretty thin right now. Only one flat, a small nail, added tire liners after repair.

I still think a great value for the $$$. There might be prettier, even better bikes out there, and this segment is booming now, but for now it’s still exceeding my expectations. The only thing I feel the bike lacks is a better climbing gear, but that’s splitting hairs.

The previous blizzard was so big that I couldn’t try riding when I received the bike. Now you can finally ride a bicycle. For this bike, it is really suitable for commuting, and now it is my only means of transportation.

Coupled with the assisted ride, it is very easy to ride. It can ride about 15-18 miles under the fully assisted situation. It perfectly solves my commuting problem.

Love this bike. it is just the right size. I was not dissappointed, this one works great. Very comfortable to ride. The gears are real smooth in changing and the brakes work great too. The speed control is really nice.

I love this bike. I use it mostly for hunting. I made a rack for the back. I also installed a gun/bow rack on the handle bars. It carries me and all my gear. I even redesigned a trailer for it , to haul even more.

You can spend a lot more and get a less capable bike. Hills are no problem. It is also very quite going through woods on trails getting to your hunting spots.

Easy to do. The mirror does not come with it. I bought that separately. Assembly was pretty easy, I just had to weak the Brake Pad positions. Delivery was quicker than expected and the bike arrived undamaged.

Only problem so far seems to be the seat. it wobbles just a little, and does not seem to make any difference how much I tighten it. The bike comes with a lifetime warranty so I will be calling Schwinn to see what help they can offer to make the seat firm.

I have not ridden the bike yet. So will update the review in a couple of weeks.

I bought two of these after reading various reviews. They are built like tanks. I have no doubt they will last a very, very long time. The bikes are attractive, and have enough features that it’s amazing to me that they can be sold for this price.

Unpacking and setup took less than 20 minutes for both bikes, with the exception of adjusting the breaks and inflating the tires (more on these later). Do yourself a favor and don’t bother reading the assembly directions, Schwinn now writes generic directions that supposedly fit all their bikes, and you’ll save time if you just put them together.

On the flip side, adjusting the breaks is a nightmare. They just aren’t even close to being right from the factory. Of the two bikes, each one had a rim that was out of true. It’s best to have a spoke wrench handy.

On one bike, the bead was broken on one tire and it kept popping off the rim while inflating it. I went through 2 tubes before taking it to my local bike shop and having them replace the tire [and buying a second tube (yes, I know that’s 3 tubes, but the first one came with the bike)].

I could have taken it back to Wal-Mart or called Schwinn of course, but I wanted to ride the same day. Now that everything is tweaked, I’m very pleased with the purchase. But, even though you can get one of these bikes from in the box to on the road in 10 minutes, don’t think it won’t take a good half hour [or more] to get it right.

Only owned this for a month now, so I hope it wont fall apart after I submit this review. I have rode it 55 miles thus far in fierce winter conditions. Compared to a $400 bike that was stolen on me; this bike is VERY similar.

I did not want to spend $400-600 on a new bike just to risk it being stolen again. The gears shift well, and have the same expensive look/feel of the old bike. The brakes (same as old bike) work fantastic.

Gears/brakes come pre-assembled. thank god. Assembly time takes less than an hour. The bike handles well and goes fast on the road and busted sidewalks. Seems to handle any terrain well, even an inch of snow.

Tires and rims have a nice look and solid feel. Seat very sturdy and comfortable. Handlebars are nicely shaped, though the grips aren’t too great and the front shocks seem very sensitive, they are still nice to have.

If you want a decent speedy bike that can handle any terrain and don’t want to spend a fortune on something that might get stolen: give this white steel a shot.

I want to give my Aventon Level a fair review being objective as best as possible. From a consumer point of view where I want to get the most I can for my money I think overall the bike was a ok/good purchase but not great or excellent 4&5 stars.

The best thing I like about the bike is the frame, good finish, paint and welds, nice rear rack. For the price consider the things you are not getting, torque sensor, rear suspension, built in lights and medium quality for other components.

With over 250+ miles on the bike and my first flat tire there were many components on the bike that were not great for my taste. I did not like the quality of the handgrips, handle bar, lack of adjustability with the stem, the tires are not great, flat uncomfortable seat, the fenders and rear rack seem like they just have black primer on them.

The brakes are very good and grippy but very loud, to the point you might be ashamed at breaking around people! I have not checked but they feel like a sintered pad. Under heavy front wheel breaking I feel some play in the headset which is not good.

Now I think you are going to have to spend money on any bike to make it fit you and your situation, make it practical for you to use but I think there were too many items on my list and I wished I got better components overall for what I paid.

I am always on assist level 5 pedaling trying to go 24mph+ and I feel the drivetrain is not matched very well with the possible top end speeds. At high speeds on the tallest gear I’m pedaling at very high rpms without adding much to the forward progress.

The M5 backlit lcd display is not great for me, it does this weird thing were it predicts how much battery you will have in the future under current conditions. I wished it just reported actual battery charge at that moment.

My round trip to work is about 12 miles. On the way there the display usually reports no drain at all on the battery. On the way back the battery charge goes up and down sometimes down to two notches.

When I finally stop getting home and stop it goes back up to about half way. I just ignore it now so its not very useful. All of instructions also said to download the app! And then its like Oh to bad you did not pay more for the color display, no app phone connectivity for you.

You could buy a decent used motorcycle for this kind of money, or an EScooter or a different EBike with twice the battery and range. With all of that in mind now that my wife is looking for an EBike I’m pretty sure its not going to be an Aventon sorry to say.

I can get more for the money somewhere else.

Having ridden over 200 miles on the bike as of today, I can say that it has proven both a comfortable and reliable ride. Minor quibbles: — The Bengel Ares 3 brakes are noisy. Took it to the local bike shop where they made sure the rotors are true and lightly sanded the pads.

Still making a lot of noise. Noisy enough that they turn heads of pedestrians on the shared use path. Reliably stops the bike though. May upgrade to something better in the future, but after 200 miles, I’ve become used to the noise and switching isn’t cheap.

— Shifting works well, but my Level was equipped with the Shimano Altus shift group instead of the Acera. Aventon does say they can substitute components. — The Zoom shock absorbers are not the greatest and tend to bottom out occasionally.

In the end, decided to lock them out. — No water bottle mount points, but that is easy and inexpensive to solve. What I really like: — The motor does a good job. My ride to work consists of a seven mile uphill climb (from 1 to 3 degrees) followed by varied inclines/declines for 11 miles with a short, but steep incline at the end.

— The battery is able to get me to and from work on a single charge using mostly assist level 2. Occasional use of assist level 3 is mixed in as well. I use the throttle to get going at intersections.

— The step through model really helps with mounting/dismounting. I have the medium/large frame. I’m 6’1″ and find it useful when I’ve got my large trunk bag mounted on the rear rack. If I didn’t have the trunk bag the step-over version would be fine.

— The bike is aesthetically pleasing. I get compliments on the bike’s appearance.

My wife and I bought an Aventon Level and a Level Step-Through on Good Friday this past November (about three months ago). The weather here (Oregon) has not been amenable to riding our bikes so I thought I would wait a while before writing the review.

I now have about 100 miles on my bike (half as many on the step-through) and feel prepared to review it. Before I get into it, let me just say the bikes are perfect for what we are using them for. We are both retired, so we don’t “commute” on these “commuter” bikes.

Instead, we are just riding them to have fun and to get around locally when we are RV-ing in our motorhome. I am 70 years old and thought using a bike for transportation was in my rear-view mirror, but it’s doable.

REVIEW: The bikes are fun, fun, fun. Never having ridden an ebike before, I was blown away by the power, acceleration, ride, and overall speed. And still am 100 miles later. The gears are smooth, as are changes to pedal assist, and the throttle is silky.

I use throttle mostly for leaving a standing stop without having to pedal first. The pedal assist is great and the range seems excellent too (haven’t tried beyond 20 miles yet, but there were at least 4 bars left on the Energy Bar when I went that far).

Everyone who rides our bikes has the same reaction – “WOW. Just WOW. ” Minor criticisms: 1 – C’mon really? No lights? I would have paid a bit more for an integrated illumination system, especially if it ran off of the main battery.

2 – Unboxing – they were packed well with no missing pieces, but QC coming out of the assembly plant could have been better. I put both bikes together myself (pretty easy) and then had a bike mechanic finish off the fine tuning.

He noticed that the front tire was mounted backwards on the wheel (there are directional arrows on the tire showing which way it should rotate). Also, the front rotor was slightly bent. Luckily, he was able to address both issues fairly easily.

Other than those two issues, he complimented the components (for the price range) and seemed fairly impressed with the bikes. He said a lot of ebikes use shoddy components, but these don’t. My other criticism is the keys to the battery release mechanism seem hard to take off the bike and feel like they will ultimately bend and maybe break.

Bottom line – I wouldn’t trade these bikes for anything and look forward to years of soul-satisfying fun. Jay.

I bought this bike to help with my rehabilitation after knee replacement surgery. I live in a very hilly area of western Massachusetts and riding my conventional road bike on anything but a relatively flat rail trail is not quite possible yet.

With my Rad4, I hop on at the bottom of my driveway and do between 10 and 20 miles every day that the weather permits. I have learned to use the pedal assistance in combination with gearing to control my level of exercise and speed, and can navigate any hill, no matter how steep or how long.

I get a great workout without over stressing my knee, and am building strength. Oh yeah, I’m also having a blast! I’m going to be 70 in a little more than a month and at my current riding pace, should have over 400 miles ridden by then.

I cannot say enough good things about this bike. The motor is powerful, the frame is solid, the brakes are excellent, the bike comes loaded with lots of standard features. What would make this bike perfect, is if it could recharge the battery in zero assist mode.

Currently, the only regeneration is when the brakes are engaged. Perhaps Rad will add this feature at a later date. But, even without it, this is an awesome bike and an excellent value. I highly recommend it to anyone considering an e bike.

I have had my bike for just over 2 months and have put over 200 miles on it. My girlfriend and my ex-husband also bought one, so we are a weird little rad family now. Overall it’s an amazing bike for the price.

It was easy to put together, it’s quiet, and rides nice. Sadly, the new version came out right after we got ours or I would have waited. My biggest complaints are the tires (between 3 bikes we’ve had 6 flats).

I have never had so many flats in a bike before. I wish it had an option to get them shipped with the tannus armour already installed. The rear fender is also not the greatest quality considering it houses cables and can’t just be removed.

One of them (of our 3 bikes) became misshapen and started rubbing the tire while riding. It took a lot of creative work to get it in working order again. The headlight is also a pain to keep adjusted in all 3 bikes.

I’ve tightened it multiple times but it always jostles loose and points too far down. I’ve come to just wedging something under it to hold it in the right place. And lastly, if you have short legs you either have to deal with the bar being a little close to your business or get a step through.

I didn’t want a step through so I was fine dealing with the high bar, until I crashed and landed on it (do not recommend, it has been an awful recovery). However, it did lead me to order the new version which has more clearance in that area.

I haven’t had a chance to ride it yet (due to the healing injury) but I’m excited for some of the improvements.

I’ve had the Rad City for four months. I live in Davis near Sacramento, where we have flat landscape and “bike-able” weather 95% of the year. I use the bike as a car substitute (equipped with front basket and matching bag), and have put >700 miles on it.

I use it to commute to work, the gym, groceries (1 large bag max) and for all my around town errands. I’ve had to use my car for errands maybe once per month, all the rest done on the bike. I love it, and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

The engineering is really thoughtful with a built-in rear rack and tail light. The levels of power assist span a wide range. I usually use level 3 on a 1-5 scale. The way the font basket mounts to the frame and not handle bars is a great idea as it prevents weight in the basket from affecting the steering.

Assembly was straightforward if you have basic “handyman” skills. The Rad Power videos were very helpful. You’ll want to be cautious when first using the bike. On my old non-electric back, I’d mount from the left with the left crank in the 9:00 position so that I’d generate some forward motion while mounting.

If you do that on the Rad City it triggers the power assist and the bike can get away from you. As it does your hand rotates back on the throttle and that makes it worse. So better to not turn on the power assist until you’re up and running.

I have rotten (70 year old) knees so the option of a pure throttle has been great for start ups and hills. It’s gotten me out of the car, and allows me to use my legs without causing too much damage.

The bike’s heavy, so getting it on a car rack will be a challenge for many. I’m 6’4″, 220 lbs, and the bike is big enough for me, but only barely. That said, it’s very comfortable. I’ve configured it so that I sit relatively upright.

This bike has a front shock, which I’d never experienced before. It took some getting used to in terms of how it affects handling, but I now appreciate the benefits in the form of lessened impact on the wrists and shoulders.

Max speed of 20 mph works great. Any more and the margin for error begins to get pretty slim. Negatives: Really nothing substantive. It’d be nice to have something besides black to increase visibility.

A clock on the computer screen would be nice. Though nothing has gone wrong, it would have been nice to have had a local dealer to see it and try it our before purchasing, and for the day when it will need something fixed/replaced.

Overall an excellent bike. I had to redesign the front fender braces so the fender would stop rattling so much and banging against the tire. (mounted the “L” facing out instead of up, then rebent the other ends to fit into the fender clamps correctly needed because of the other change–this gave the mounts a triangle shape which braced them against each other instead of going straight back which gave them no strength of shape at all–really a bad design actually which can easier be fixed with a a couple of pliers), and I changed the grips because I did not like how they set my wrists.

Also, the water bottle mounts are useless where they are so I obtained a plate to move the ones on the top tube back so I can actually use a water bottle on the top tube (the ones on the seat tube are totally useless no matter what).

Anyway, the good stuff is the battery range is better than I expected. I would guess in the review tests I read that the people doing the testing don’t pedal as much as I do, so they got less miles out of the battery.

I am very happy with the range. I also changed the stem to raise the handlebar about an inch, but that is just a personal preference. I expected to have to change the seat because I pretty much hate gel seats, but this one suits me perfectly fine.

I like the tire width–not too skinny and not too fat. Fat tires are for the most part a gimmick that is useful only really in sand. I own a couple dozen bikes and I would say my regular sized tired bikes do everything better than my fat tire mountain bike other than ride in sand.

Even in snow I prefer the skinnier tires. Maybe some snow is different, I don’t know. But, anyway, the bike rides decently, so I am happy with it. My first ride on it was 25 miles and it all fit me very well.

It is also easy to put together. IT shifts fine and the brakes work very well. Although I have seen reviews that the front fender was hard to put on, I kinda laugh at that. It isn’t. It does help to have regular hex wrenches though instead of the “triangle” wrench that comes with the bike.

However, if you don’t have tools, the tools they send will enable you to put everything together that you need to. It is pretty cool that they include the tools needed. The various screens on the control screen are not hard to get to, but just a few more buttons would have made it easier (as opposed to “hold these two buttons for three seconds” or those two, or whatever).

It would also be good to expand the instructions a bit to cover things like locking the front suspension. I knew how even though I have never had such front suspension (I don’t really like suspension and wish it didn’t have any), but other people may not know how to do that who are not familiar with such things.

Oh, the little bell that came with the bike was cute, but didn’t work. Battery charging take a heck of a long time though. I may buy a quicker charger at some point. I like the red color of the bike as it makes the bike more visible to auto drivers.

That is actually one of the reasons I purchased this particular bike. I don’t want a silver or black or even a white bike. Those are all relatively hard to see compared to any bright type color. And so I eliminated some manufactures who only offered their bikes in white or black or silver.

Any little bit that helps me be seen by traffic. well, I want that. I also like being able to switch through the 1,2 or 3 levels whatever laws those are. and having a throttle is handy at times also.

Oh, one problem that came with the bike was that one set of spokes on the front wheel were hitting the brake caliper which makes a really annoying noise each revolution, but a little pushing in on those fixed them.

And I am guessing just by squeezing the spokes that I am going to have to adjust them at some point since they all seem a bit different in tension. The shipping box was excellent–entire bike enclosed in foam.

and the built in lift handles made it very easy to move the box around. There was zero damage to my bike in shipping. But to sum up, I changed a few things to make the bike fit me better, but overall everything is decent, and the miles per charge is excellent, and the bike has a high visibility color and a throttle so I am happy.

Shipping: Just FYI, my bike was shipped “signature required” through FedEx. This was very difficult since they would not give me a day, much less a time that they would arrive. This caused me to miss their first attempt, and in the end delayed my shipment by 5 days.

This was not nearly as frustrating as when I opened the package, the bike was extremely damaged. The front wheel hub was sticking through the side of the box, both fenders were bent up, the rear rack was crushed, and the rear hydraulic brake line was kinked.

Due to the brake issue, the bike was not safely rideable, no rear brakes. Juiced Policy: To be clear, if you receive a damaged bike from Juiced, their position is to ship you replacement parts and have YOU repair your bike.

This may not be a big deal if it is a simple part to get to, but for example, let’s say you have a damaged fender. Well, this involves disassembling the entire rear wheel assembly, since the bolts holding it on are on the inside.

Yes, that hour plus job is your reward for receiving a damaged bike. That is IF they have replacement parts! This is where my frustration with FedEx is now with Juiced. Juiced Customer Service: I will do my best to keep this short.

First with the only positive I have, every time I got through to a customer service representative they were polite and easy to talk to. Did they help me solve my issue and follow through on promises they gave me, absolutely not.

Combining all of the time spent on hold, attempting their text support (this goes nowhere), and most recently attempting to repair my bike (more on this below), I have 10 hours of my time into this, and I still do not have a fully functional bike that I paid for.

Juiced does not have replacement parts for the bike that I paid for nearly 2 months ago. In the meanwhile, they continued to sell my exact model, even offering a sale, but no parts for a paid customer.

I finally recently received replacement parts, not all, but some. When trying to install the rear fender and more importantly the rear brakes, they sent the wrong parts. Yes, you read that correctly.

I could not be more frustrated with Juiced at this point. Their product appears to be well engineered and built, but they apparently are more interested in sales than owners of their product. Keep this in mind when spending your hard earned money.

This is my first E-Bike and I love the brand. Just surpassed 2,000 miles and no complains at all on my end. When I got my bike there was some damage to the fender and rear rack but the Customer Service team addressed the issues immediately and sent out replacements promptly.

Cruising speed at about 25 miles an hour that I can push to 32 with effort. Battery is amazing, providing about 25-28 miles at the highest pedal assist setting. On the lowest setting you can get over 55 miles (the furthest I have pushed it).

I think if this had some suspension in the back it would be the perfect bike. I weigh 225 and with my work equipment and everything on my daily commute, I have had to replace about 6 spokes on the rear tire only.

This is the only work I have had to do to the bike, and 6 broken spokes riding on bumpy San Diego roads over the course of 2,000 miles is impressive. My daily 16 mile round trip commute will take about 60% of the battery on the highest setting of pedal assist.

Honestly you can’t go wrong. This $2400 bike is easily on par with any bike worth double the amount.

Everything about this bike is perfect. Im a 19 y/o college student so i wanted something cute to ride downtown but sturdy enough for when i want to go on longer rides. Everything on it is made for easy maintenance (huge plus for me) and the back rack gave me an additional option for storage (groceries!).

As a kid i had mountain bikes with front and rear gears so i was a little apprehensive about only one set of gears but they change smooth and get the job done. Cant recommend enough.

If the price hadn’t gone up $140 from the original one it would be 5 stars. However, nothing has been done that adds value from that bike. Also, the original had more color choices that were actually more appealing.

I get looks are subjective, but still throw out some retro options for buyers too. The bronze, and blue on the original was a great looking bike. If the bike was still punching below the $500 price point then I’d highly recommend it.

However, as it sits I’d weigh my options heavily before buying.

This was my daily commuter until it was stolen out of my shed earlier today. I wanted something that would be comfortable to ride, light enough to be easily loaded onto a rack and I didn’t want to sacrifice performance for comfort.

This bike met all the criteria, and it turned heads because it was SO pretty. I led bike tours of our downtown murals as a volunteer for a historic preservation society and always got compliments on the bike.

I am profoundly upset about having my bike stolen, but I hold high hopes that it will be recovered. Thief stole my helmet too, so at least he knows that it’s important to protect your brain.

The Marin Fairfax 3 is my first Marin but my 4th bike in 10yrs the others from trek & fuji. When in unboxed it i couldn’t believe the finish what a beautiful paint job. First ride i thought something was wrong because this bike doesn’t make a sound its the quietest bike i ever road and those Microshift shifters just might be better than Shimano.

Now my wife is selling her bike to procloset for a Marin. Steven in Customer service was great i scratch my headtube badge and he fedex a new one to me. Who does that. Thanks Marin! And thanks Jensonusa.

The Marin 2 Fairview is fantastic. When I brought it into my local bike shop, the bike mechanic ogled it like he wanted to bring it home and have it meet his mother. “That’s a nice bike. Really nice.

” Then he cut in front of me and lifted it to check the bike weight. “Yeah, that’s a really nice bike. ” He’s right. I rode a Specialized hybrid for a dozen years. Great bike, but time to upgrade for fitness/workouts/longer rides.

Sun & Ski were one of only a few places that actually had bikes in stock, in my size especially, a Medium. It shipped right away. Got it right away. There were only two issues, nothing major, both of which they corrected in a timely fashion.

Not right away but in a decent amount of time (within 5 days). Great follow-up. They made things right and I’m a loyal customer now. Back to the bike: it’s sleek, handles well, and is a GREAT deal for the dough.

I did my due diligence because I’m like Ahab when it comes to chasing the Great White Whale of deals.

I really wanted to love this bike, after I first put it together and jumped on it, I was really feeling like it was going to be something special. The feeling of the belt drive/internal hub combo was unusual, and yet smooth as silk.

4th gear takes a little getting used to because you can feel the whir of the hub, but every other gear is smooth and you soon get used to that 4th gear feeling. I sailed up and down the street as a first test ride, and then started to ride up the driveway, and there was a CLUNK, as the gear skipped.

Pedal power down, CLUNK, gear skipped again. I changed it down a gear, and it was ok again. I rode back down, and cycled up the street again, putting it into a higher gear, and jumped out of the saddle and started pedalling and CLUNK, it slipped again.

Apparently this is a common issue with Shimano hubs. Under tension/pressure, the gears can pop out. I contacted the support team. They asked if the hub, when placed in 4th gear, was correctly aligned.

Initially it wasn’t, so I re-aligned it, and hoped this would resolve my issues. However that hasn’t proven to be the case. If I put any form of pressure down on the pedals (eg, get out of the saddle for a climb).

It slips, and it’s an incredibly unsettling experience. So, how do I rate this bike? If the gear didn’t slip, this would easily be a 5/5 bike, the perfect commuter. It’s silent, and smooth, relatively low maint, comfortable, everything I want.

The fact is, under any amount of serious pressure, the gears slip, and just makes me curse the bike under my breath as I ride it. It makes me worried, and forces me to change my riding style to accommodate it’s weakness.

HOWEVER – if you are a rider who is tasked with a commute that is relatively flat, or has long, undulating, low gradient hills that do not require too much exertion to overcome, I think you would really enjoy this bike.

This lefty is a lot of fun to ride and gets a ton of looks. The gearing and brakes are great for a commuter bike. Riding position, grips, and seat are comfortable. Micro shift drive train works great.

The paint job is a wicked flat black that looks great in person. The rubber strip along the top bar is genius. Nice to be able to lean a bike again a car or whatever without it falling or scratching anything.

The lefty fork is not just a gimmick, it makes the bike lighter and even able to change a tire or tube without removing the tire. However there are a few negatives. The stock tires are terrible, I have had three flats in one month from thorns.

I dunno what the deal with these tires is, but seems to be a really common complaint. Chuck em in the trash if you buy this bike. Second is that if you remove the front wheel, you have to remove the front brake caliper, and re align it to put the wheel back on, so if you have remove the front wheel to put the bike in your car buy some of those disc brake chocks.

Third is the squeak from the hub, mine only squeaks when moving the bike around and not riding. I have lubed the seal well, but still kind of annoying to have a bike this expensive squeak really loud.

Last but not least the drop out isn’t very wide or flat, I pull a Thule chariot cross a lot and fabbed an adapter so the hitch doesn’t damage the dropout. The pros of this bike definitely out weight the cons and you get to ride something unique and fun.

Quality built, extremely light, and very robust. It comes with pedals, bell, reflective lights which were not expected. Very well built by Sigma, and really good customer service. I had an accident recently and bumped into car who decided to go before me.

I got several bruises but the bike actually saved my life! What’s interesting, it only got one scratch on the handle from impact. It is so lightweight and yet still robust, I am impressed and very happy with the product.

Next time I will get bad boy 1.

I’m surprised that BadGuys review has been posted. He clearly has no intention of buying one of these Bad Boy 3 Bikes. Having ridden Lefty equipped mountain bikes for close to 20 years I can honestly say that it is not a gimmicky fork.

Tires can be replace without wheel removal, how often is wheel truing required? I would true them on the bike. It takes very little time to remove the front wheel. Mountain bike fenders will fit this bike.

A seat post rear mount rear and an expansion plug mount in the bottom of the steerer tube. I cannot argue that this bike is a little heavy (in its’ price range?) and ‘possibly’ cannot accept a rear rack.

I am concerned that the review criticizing this product is from an person who has not ‘used this product’ and has no intention to use or buy one. A negative review just because you don’t like something, serves no purpose.

This version is a special edition made specifically for Alltricks so it comes at a slight discount compared to the original Plus. Bonus! The bike it’s fun and practical, pedals very well and it’s comfortable even on long distances.

Geometry is somewhat relaxed (size up for a more versatile bike, I’m 179 cm and ride a L frame) but the bike still remains nimble and capable of moving at good speed. The seat might not be for everybody and, even for me, accustomed to hard bike seats, remains a possible upgrade.

I mounted a pizza rack and find it a perfect addition to the overall package. Super comfortable tires, good brakes and ample gear range. Color is good, welds not as bad as they look in the images. Overall I’m VERY pleased with this bike as a long distance commuter and everyday town whippet.

Fun bike for scooting around town. Bought this model for my daily commute (less than 5 miles, roundtrip) and for getting out and about around town. Really happy with the 650b tires. Living in Michigan our roads are not in the best of shape but these tires handle the cracks and potholes wonderfully.

Comfortable ride and capable handling. Plus, it’s a Kona! Couldn’t be happier.

My husband and I started biking again over the summer. We dusted off our bikes and enjoyed Some awesome trails near our house. Before we realized it we were biking more and loving it. The only problem was my bike was so old it was getting in the way of our new found activity.

Lovely light weight electric bike with lower step height. A bit rabbitty at low speads with the power assist, but smooths out nicely once you get going. Perfect for my local riding on roads and gravel paths.

Size small was hard to find but perfect for my 5ft 3in height.

I’ve been riding for about a month as part of my commute and I’m impressed so far. This is my first e-bike and I’m definitely glad I went with the Shift S1 over other really cheap or very expensive models.

Depending on the day, my longest ride is just over 5 miles and it’s predominantly uphill. The Shift S1 handles it with ease and there are only a few spots that I really feel compelled to pedal when on speed – 3.

It’s mostly city streets, but I definitely hit plenty of smaller obstacles (rough pavement, manhole covers, etc. ) and it handles them all with ease. The seat gets a little uncomfortable toward the end of the 5 miles, but it’s not too bad.

The bike definitely isn’t quiet – it has a whirl sound – but I view this as a plus as it helps alert pedestrians and other cyclists that I’m approaching. I can tell I’m going to need to adjust the brakes a bit as they start to wear in and don’t stop as quickly, but that’s going to happen on any bike.

I also added aftermarket blinking lights (tail and head) and I highly recommend that for safety. The only other thing I’m considering is a spare battery, but that’s mostly the old boy scout in me always wanting to be prepared.

I got the bike initially without looking into most of its parameters because its on sale, then I found I was lucky. Most of the folding e-bike under $700 does not has a top speed of 20, this one does reach that speed.

The seat is comfortable and the bike is also very light(not crazy but definitely one of the lightest in its class). The speed control is simple and easy, the only complain I have is the pedal-assist is cadence and I don’t have a good control with low speed(too much acceleration).

Although it has a throttle, but you cannot use it without enabling the PAS. The assembly is kind of bad, you should tighten all the screw before your first ride. Range is 10miles on normal uses, but it is actually very easy to pedal as a normal bike.

Motor is a little bit noisy but not reaching to an annoying level. Also in rainy weather it doesn’t seem to work for the battery connector is not protected. Overall it’s a very decent bike for city travelling, highly recommended!.

This bike is well built and solid. The range is more like 12 miles for the battery but still very good. speed is insane, I have a gotrax GXL v2 and riding this is like the GXL on steroids. sometimes the speed is scary.

not recommended for children. it is also very heavy for the size. i ride regular BMX as well and at 40lbs this thing is tough to get up a curb. overall I love it and I believe this is the best deal on a foldable ebike this size.

I’m writing this review before riding the bike (which looks beautiful) to answer a question that some people may be wondering: assemble it completely yourself or have the company or a bike shop do it? I ended up buying mine unassembled and put it together in under an hour, and it didn’t include any detailed inatructions.

If you have modest mechanical skills, an Allen wrench set, an adjustable wrench, and a Phillips head, you can probably do this. Even the unassembled version of the bike comes partially assembled, so you won’t be doing anything super complicated.

The most technical task was adjusting the brake tension, which a one-minute YouTube video can explain. Otherwise, everything else is cake. Just don’t scratch the paint. However, they give you some touch up paint if you do.

TLDR: If you can build IKEA furniture, don’t spend the money to have this pre-assembled. You can do it.

I love this bike! This is actually my second purchase from Public. I bought my first R24 drop bar in November 2019 as a reward to myself for quitting drinking and making some major lifestyle changes.

During the two years I had the bike I probably put over 2000 miles on it and it performed like new without a single hiccup. This bike is sturdy, relatively light (I left the fenders off), and it had enough space for all my city commuting needs such as lights, a bell, and cell phone holder.

I had a rack on it with panniers at one point and was able to load it up without a problem. This bike helped me completely change my life and helped me lose nearly 75lbs. It’s such a nice ride that I just always wanted to be on it.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago that bike was stolen. It was almost 2 years to the day since i bought it. I was devastated. I neglected to document the serial number and pretty much wrote off ever seeing it again.

Keep this locked up! Double-lock it! Mine was in a security coded foyer and I can only think that someone had been casing it for a long time. This bike stands out and turns heads. Even people who aren’t bike people know they’re looking at a high quality bike when they see it.

Afterwards, I called and spoke with Dave and couldn’t have been greeted with more professionalism and courteousness. He helped me quickly place an order for a replacement, although this version is the R18, and couldn’t have been more understanding about the loss of my bike.

These guys really get what a good bike means to someone. The shipped it faster than I expected and I received it quickly (across country in a few days – I’m in Atlanta) and had it assembled at my local bike shop and was out the door in no time.

This bike is a dead ringer for my old R24 but better! The gears shift even more smoothly than with my last bike and it seems to still have the gear range of the R24. I never thought I’d have a bike I liked better than my last one so this one being even higher quality is icing on the cake.

I highly recommend this bike and this company. Hands down. Don’t hesitate. Buy it. You won’t regret it and, from my experience, they’ll have your back down the road. This is how a company should operate.

I own two mountain bikes and a road bike, but I’m embarrassed to say I’ve still been driving a lot for errands, even close to home. I was looking for a relatively lightweight, stylish Amsterdam-style bike for trips to the store, friends’ houses, the gym, etc.

The V7i has been the perfect solution. I ride it almost everywhere I used to drive. It has no quick-release anything, pedals that work with any shoes (including flip-flops), a chain guard to keep grease of my clothes, and a comfortable upright riding position.

And it’s great looking (i chose British racing green). The seven-speed internal hub works great. You can shift even at a dead stop. I highly recommend the V7i for commuting, errands, and fun trips around town.

The folks at Mike’s in midtown were great. They set up my new bike, helped me choose accessories (lock, rack, bottle cage, etc. ). If you’re looking for a versatile, everyday bike, this one may be just the ticket.

My wife bought this bike for me to join her on her RAD city 3 step thru. I love this bike. The pedal assist feature works flawlessly. I don’t use the throttle feature. The wheels and frame have been very durable.

I put a Kinekt spring seatpost on it from day one. This bike is very reliable. I also installed RAD’s Large Basket on the back. The basket is excellent in design and helps me carry a lot more stuff when needed.

The bike is very comfortable with my Spiderflex seat replacing the original. The shifter and brakes have been excellent. I really like this bike and ride it all the time. I ride in and around Sacramento California which is all flat.

The biggest hills are freeway overpasses so I have no experience riding up hills. That said this bike works beautifully on the flats with no real problems or issues that stand out to me. I highly recommend this bike.

Bought this bike due to foot ulcers on the bottom of my feet. Best thing I could do. I’m able to still get exercise without walking, thus keeping my blood sugar levels within normal range. I purchased the cell phone holder and seat carrying pouch extra.

There is a blu tooth speaker mounted on the handle bars to listen to songs on the cell phone. Bike is solid, sturdy and dependable. I can easily go a couple of days on a single charge. I keep it on pedal assist 2.

I live in a suburb of Denver, there is a great trail system to ride on. No hassles with cars. I have this bike for one year and never had a problem except a flat tire on the rear. I watched your you tube video on how to change the tire and tube.

I would recommend putting Green Slime and tire liners along with a new inner tube. Has been good ever sense. I have received many compliments from friends who tested my bike out. Very happy with the purchase.

My wife and I (both 60+) decided to try e-bikes for exercise. We went to the local bike shop in order to try out multiple types and styles. After spending several hours trying out different bikes, both of us decided on this model.

We both liked the pedal assist type of e-bike as it just felt more natural and allowed us to customize the degree of exercise we wanted with each ride. After more than 150 plus miles we could not be happier with our decision!.

I gave this bike a 5 star. I shopped around at different bike stores and test drove several bikes. It was between a Trek bike or a Giant. When I tested the Momentum Vida Low Step at Wheel and Sprocket it felt right.

I am a senior, 5’4 and chose the beautiful teal color and the medium frame. The bike was very comfortable and it was very easy for me to get on and off of it and that was most important to me because it had the low step which gave me plenty of room that my last bike didn’t have.

The disc brakes was an added bonus and the wider tires. I added a kick stand and a back bike rack so I could add a bike bag. I just love this bike! ❤️.

Was looking for a cruiser in the $500. 00-$600. 00 range. Took this one for a spin at the bike shop and was sold immediately on the comfort of the ride. Love that it’s a step through (even though it kind of looks like a motor scooter without a top bar).

I probably would’ve gotten the teal had it been in stock, but added a colorful basket, bell and water bottle holder to make the white a bit more vibrant. I’ve ridden this bike casually for hours at a time and the ease of the gear shift is truly remarkable.

Rides well on every surface. even sand! But overall, it’s the comfort that makes this bike worth every penny.
