20 Best Bike Pedals With Straps (2023 Updated)

Great platform pedals! Ive been looking a pair of pedals like this with the color that I wanted for the longest time & Im glad I found this. Its quality made and its made in Taiwan whose reputation for making things are superb and I have long history from buying stuff made in Taiwan since I was a teenager so you know you cant go wrong from the stuff the manufacture.

A highly recommended pedals for either regular bikes to MTB to BMX.

This is my second pair due to a crash that totalled my left pedal. I love these lightweight pedals with just enough grip when you need it. Not as bad as metal if it hits your shin. Smooth spinning action over 2 years riding in rain, sun and snow.

Form and fit is on target. Functionally the pedals work well for everything save rocky rooty trails that require precise foot placement and reliable foot-pedal adhesion. If your riding advanced trails go for the Mesa pedal.

The screw which adjusts the strap broke the first night. The slow customer service tag is NOT jensonUSA but rather the actual company that produced the product. I asked for replacement hardware and it took 3 weeks for me to get a screw.

Aside from the screw problem, the powergrips are actually very good when functioning properly. Just be sure to adjust it properly and trim the strap so it doesn’t scrape the road as you turn. Going uphill definitely was easier and there was definitely more power in the pedal strokes.

Back to cons, while there was increased power because normal shoes were used in conjunction with these pedals there was a bit of discomfort in the soles of my feet and areas the strap held down my foot during longer rides.

I switched the clipless and will never look back. Bottomline: If properly adjusted and used for shorter rides it is an absolute upgrade to your bike. However I suggest you highly consider clipless if you are doing anything more than 10-15 minute rides.

PS using these straps made transitioning to clipless a breeze PROS: cheap, Easy To Install, Easy to use, More power CONS: Slow customer service, Weak parts BEST USES: Uphills, To Gain More Power, Possible Transition Step.

These are a great upgrade for those who want more grip to their pedal but either want to use a regular shoe or aren’t psychologically ready for clipless. These offer a better grip than the old toe clips.

(Although they require a smidge more intensive adjustment from user to user. ) It’s also nice that if you aren’t in the Power Grips, they won’t make that dreadful scraping-on-pavement noise that an upside-down plastic or metal toe clip would.

The only negative is that they will begin to show their wear pretty quickly. The straps, after all, are a very reinforced, inflexible fabric. So after a few rotations along the pavement they will begin to look furry and frayed.

PROS: Better Grip Than Clips CONS: Look Worn Quickly BEST USES: Upgrade From Platforms, Commuting, Touring.

Id like it better if the strap was just a little longer. My feet although not big (size 10) are marginally too large to fit even at the extremes of the adjustment.

I’ve only had these pedals for a little bit but I already know that this pedal is for the long term. I am not a terribly serious rider, I like to ride and really enjoy it for good workouts and touring around.

I put these on my gravel bike so I can ride to a spot, get off the bike, run around, and bike home without having to bring two pairs of shoes. I also got these to clip in on days I just want to ride.

The platform side is awesome, the cleat part allows me to push and pull in my stroke without my foot moving or even feeling close to falling off. The clip side is easy clip in and out. It’s weighted perfectly where it doesn’t flip if I take my foot off the pedal.

I have experienced that flip on other pedals and very much no likey. This pedal is great for what I use it for.

Overall a very nice set of pedals – the ability to clip-in for a longer road ride while flipping the pedal for use with running shoes to cycle to a trail head or the local store is nice. These are being used on a gravel bike but had a similar road-specific pair that lasted for years.

If Shimano included 2 sets of cleats (56s and 51s) it would earn a 5-star review. I’d forgotten the SH56 is a multi-release cleat – you don’t feel nearly as locked in as with the SH51 cleat I use on my mountain bike.

For recreational/fitness riding, these can’t be beat if you’re a fan of SPD systems.

This is a good quandary sturdy pedal that should suit all but the very beginner. Easy to install with the correct Allen wrench and quite adjustable to individual preferences. Being double sided means there’s always a mechanism to clip in to.

The design means that it clears mud etc while still offering security. Fairly light but priced for the non-professional. Can be serviced but you need a special tool (which is very cheap). These pedals come with genuine Shimano cleats (SH 51) and these are not cheap so a bargain to get both together.

There is enough pedal to use if you miss clipping in first time. For the price, this is a great pedal for non-road race cycling and, I feel, easier to come to terms with than a road pedal. I use these pedals on an MTB for mainly on-road use and I feel safe in that i won’t slip from the pedal but I unclipping is fast and easy in traffic.

A slightly cheaper version of the XT pedals I have been using for the last 20 years. The design is faultless- they work in all conditions – and keep on working! They are virtually maintenance free- just clean the clip in area with a brush and water to remove dirt and grit after each ride – bearings can be regreased – but this shouldn’t need doing often unless you jet wash the seals and force water in.

The tension can be set to release the foot with just a slight lateral twist – which means putting the foot down in an emergency is quick and saves falling off. Quality Shimano build – a great pedal – and built to last even with the inevitable pedal strikes which happen on rocky terrain.

Been using the Shimano off road pedal on my road bikes for over 20 years now, no problems. The double sided pedal works with all shoes, not just road shoes or off road shoes. With the indentation of the SPD cleat sometimes being used in shoes today to walk without walking on the cleat means some shoes are not compatible with road cleats.

both my road shoes and off road shoes fit this two sided off road pedal. Bearing wear is slight, probably 25,000 miles before signs of wear. Two sided is faster to clip into, and you have a backup if one side fails.

TIME X Pro 10 are sufficiently different from my previous Look Style that it took me a few weeks of cycling to get things correct. No Problem. I expected that. after all it took me nearly 6 months to get used to the Look ones after 30+ years of the strap style.

Yes. These clips are very good. best yet. Take the time to set them up correctly and you will find the rewards. A perfectly normal business transaction. All went well.

Ive been using time pedals since time branched from skiing into cycling. In that 30 years the pedal reliability has improved to a point they truly do last for years of tough use. I did find the iclick a bit too free, on climbs my lower leg does move more in this system.

Regardless its a personal preference and I am still a big fan of this model for its weight, road clearance, ease of locking in and out and its definitely another great time pedal system.

Never owned a Crank Bros pedal set before. Shimano SPD always. Many pedal brands have been in short supply since 2020, or if available, priced to unaffordable. I have always been weary of trying C. B Pedals.

Many people dislike non adjustable clip-less pedals and I was part of this group. I needed new pedals and every model I wanted was “back ordered” or way overpriced. I took a chance and bought these Dbl Shot 3 pedals.

Lots of “pro” reviews rating less than positive but I like the look of them and the fact that the model has been evolving. C. B. Is not correcting mistakes with each upgrade, they are taking input and making them fit more riders needs No pedal is perfect for every person, I took this into consideration and made the order.

I have only had them a day and I can say without pause they are equal at least to the best pedals I have used in 40 years. They have a tight spin, meaning you can’t spin them a dozen times with your hand.

They stay in the position you took your foot off on. I love this about them. Perhaps they will loosen a bit over time but I hope they don’t. The platform is so nice. The length is ideal, most pedals I have used are same dimension side to side/front to back.

The platform provides incredible grip and security, better than I have ever felt. No fiddling needed, anti-seize the threads, put them on and ride. The subject of clip-less is very individualized. I am not a big fan being a full suspension rider but use them in different situations, climbing, etc.

I ride platform 90% of the time but like clip options. All my pedals have been dual, I find it easy to switch mid pedal, no problem. The CB clip design surprised me. Easy to clip in from 1st try. After riding all day I have zero issue with clipping in.

Releasing is not easy but the pedals and clips are new. I can switch to easy release / less degree clips later If bothered by them long term. Setup is quick, shoe worked perfect with provided clips 1st install.

Nice looking, perfect pedal bearings with no wild free spinning, great platforms, light weight, adjustable by clip change, spacing for my size 11 wide shoe is ideal, no crank rub clipped in. If the price is anywhere close to some other brand you are considering, I would get these.

Long term this review is not, but one day of riding 40 miles in them I am a big fan. I ride 1000’s of miles a year, this is just day one, but I would bet these pedals will last me years. 5 star short term, 4 star due to leaving room for long term aspect.

Using Shimano SPD clipless pedals (on a tight setting) for over 10 years I decided to give these a try simply because they were what was in stock as an option for a platform on one side and clip on the other, at the store when I purchased the Co-op DRT 2.

2 MTB. I literally fell at least once every ride because I just couldn’t unclip with multiple times of still having difficulty getting my feet unclipped whilst on the ground in an awkward position connected to the bike after the fall.

90% of the time getting going it would be 15-20 yards before I could get both feet fully clipped in as well. One day telling another rider about how I’ve never fallen so often who had Crankbrothers Eggbeaters, he said, “Oh, just loosen up the tension.

They should be adjustable like these. ” I was so relieved!. until finding out, this model is not adjustable and getting to one similar that would be is twice the cost! I really wanted to get used to these, but after a few months of riding and even buying the “easy release” cleats there wasn’t much change and I still fell at least once every outing resulting in quite the bruises in various places.

I put on a set of Exustar SPD equivalent to these and felt at ease once again. Easy to get in and out of and a couple of potential falls I was able to catch myself with my foot after releasing so easily.

I would give them 1 star if it weren’t for what I did like – the large platform for tooling around the neighborhood or greenway rides with my children. Very comfortable with just flip-flops, more so than the Exustar option.

I?ve been on crank brothers pedals for a long time. Many years and miles. Mountain and gravel bike. My knees feel better due to their float. The 15 degree float is more than enough to mask anything but perfect alignment while installing the cleat to you shoes.

The Candy 7 is the ?Goldielocks? of the range. You get the better bearings but still a steel spindle. A lighter spindle material sacrifices durability for weight savings. Really, any pedal in this range is going to be great.

Reading some other reviews here and I?ve experienced all the negative ones with any pedal. It?s a consumable item on a bike much like a chain or cassette.

Got these pedals for my fiance’s brand new Surly Disc Trucker I got her for her 21st birthday. These are great! I own the earlier slightly lighter version (some plastic. These are all metal!) on my Trek 520 and swear by them.

They’re perfect for use with cycling shoes and as regular platform pedals when you just want to hop on the bike with your tennis shoes (takes a minimal time to get used to the rolling fasteners in the middle without bike cleats).

She’s not quite ready for clipping in (fairly new to road bicycling), so these pedals will be ready when she is. And she looooves the lime green color (gonna add some more lime green accents to balance it out)! Only issue that isn’t a big deal for either of us, is that they’re kinda heavy.

but they’ll probably last forever in rough conditions. They look and feel bombproof (all metal!). Not for gram counters.

These are great because they not only provide clip-less attachment, but also have the benefit of a platform on which to help maximise drive through the crank. The platform is wide enough, and the pedals of great quality.

Clipping into the pedal can take some getting use to, and initially they can be a challenge to clip into, though getting out is a breeze with a quick twist of the foot. After a while a combination of the spring system bedding in, and the rider getting used to how to engage into the system makes clipping in and out easier.

These are also double sided, so no need to spin the pedal to engage into the system. I find that this set up is more energy saving than the traditional clip-less pedal with no platform.

Really enjoying these on my gravel bike. I had bought them for my other bike to run more downhill, but they are just a little smaller than I wanted for that. But for the gravel they are a great size and easy to pop in out of after a little adjusting.

Quality build. Really nice pedals. I’m new to Crankbrothers, as have been using Shimano XT’s for years. These give a much better platform, and after a while getting used to them, I’ve decided the float is a nice feature.

Compared to SPD’s they take a bit of wearing in at the beginning. Clipping in to begin with was super hard, but once the cleats wear a little they are much better.

I started experiencing a clunk on the left side of my bike, once every revolution, at the same location, and started pulling my hairs out after troubleshooting the obvious, like the crank bearings, etc.

I read somewhere on the internet that sometimes pedals could be at fault. Would you believe tightening the bolts on the pedals cured my problem? Happy that the problem was gone, 30 miles later I experienced the same problem only worse.

This time tightening did not work and found that there was more pedal/shaft play than the left. I researched tools and found that the M324 required a set that was $60 or more depending on the store. I took the pedal off to see if I could adjust it with my existing tools.

Getting to the shaft required removing the outer cage then snapping off the end cap. Yes, you do need that tool to make adjustments unfortunately. I decided to return to REI to request repair or refund.

However, I decided to give it one more try on my bike, to my amazement the clunk was gone!!! So I think the clunks were caused by cage slippage. I’ve never had pedal problems in all my years of cycling, cheap or expensive so hopefully this “repair” will last.

Still undecided what to do now. To maintain them means buying an expensive tool, cost of which makes it hard to justify. Perhaps one should consider these disposable, which is a shame because of the Shimano quality materials.

Incidentally, if you need reflectors, the cost for a Shimano set will be about $26.

I have 2 pairs of these pedals and they have worked well. One pair was on a daily commuter and handled the snow and salt with no issues and I am _not_ kind to my commuter. I washed the bike a couple of times a year and applied a bit of oil to the pivot points and never had an issue.

The seond pair is now on my fat bike that I ride on and off the trails on Nose hill. I try to stay clipped in but when the snow gets too thick I unclip and switch sides so I can bail quickly. Last winter I had a different clipped pedal on my bike and the metal tab that holds the “nose” of the cleat broke right off when I wiped out so I bought the Shimanoes and have no issues with them.

They would get 5 stars if everything Shimano wasn’t quiet so spendy.

These pedals allow you to either use plain shoes or shoes with spd cleats. The metal used in their construction is robust and a pair on my touring bike have done about 10,000km with the only issue being that the bearing now need a service which requires a special Shimano tool to tighten the lock nut for race/shaft.

Cleats and a multi-language instructions were included with the pedals. There is a provision on the pedal for click in reflectors which are not included in the package. You will have to find you own source for reflectors.

I used 4 from unused basic pedals. Remember to use some grease on the pedal thread when attaching them to the cranks so that the parts do not corrode together.

Cracking idea. These were fitted to an ex mountain bike which I now ride very day to work. I am used to wearing clips and these are ideal when touring – but now I also commute and the flats on the other side are great.

Peddles are easy to use and flick to the correct side. I use the flats a lot more than I expected.

I have ATAC Pedals on my mountain bike and our tandem. When I bought an e-bike I wanted the flexibility of being able to ride in the shoes I wear on those bikes or to ride in flats. these pedals fit the bill perfectly and the service I got from Take-A-Hike was excellent.

I own 4 pairs of these pedals but i recently replaced all of them with shimano spd pedals. There are a couple well known design flaws that I overlooked for weight weenie reasons. No more. The 3’s do not weigh much less than XT spd’s, only the much more expensive 11s do.

I found a deal on XTRs and they weigh essentially the same at the same price when on sale. The eggbeaters will destroy your shoes over time by wearing grooves in the sole where the cleat & pedal connect.

To combat this, purchase a sole guard plate. As your shoe treads naturally wear you lose contact with the end of the pedal. To combat this purchase a set of pedal end shims and swap out to thicker ones as each shim becomes obsolete.

Then, on an annual basis, go ahead and purchase a pedal rebuild kit for when the bearing stops turning and/or the metal spacer overcomes friction and the pedal body gains a gap that lets your foot slide side to side while clipped in.

Eventually the metal spacer will wear a groove in the axle enough that a rebuild kit is useless and you have to purchase a new pedal. If a pedal manages to last a couple years, the spring loosens to the point that you disengage at all kinds of unwanted moments.

Then add up the total money spent on eggbeaters and shoes and realize that the shimano pedal will last decades with no maintenance or extra parts and without costing you pairs of shoes, and wonder how eggbeaters remain on the market.

Bought these as replacement pedals for my granddaughters bike. These fit perfectly. They are really worth buying.

Easy to install with a simple wrench. The pedals have reflectors for safety, and are made out of solid plastic. Working great so far!

Just got these as my first pedals for mountain biking. I have used clipless pedals on the road for years and years without issues but using them on a mountain bike seemed intimidating. These egg beaters are great you can clip in on any side and when you need to get out it is super quick with minimal resistance.

I have not had any issues with retention while riding, recommended for anyone who wants to give this style of pedal a try but is a bit worried about it.

I’ve ridden shimano pedals for years and decided to try these out. I’ve only used them for a few weeks but I have loved that it’s super easy to clip in and out with all four sides and the tension in the pedals is a nice setting that hold super well.

My only knock is that setup with shoes is harder than shimano as you need to get the cleats to the correct height and can only use mtb shoes, not road with two holes, as you need the stability from the added soles.

These pedals are the real deal! Maximum grip but use at your own risk! These things can potentially chew up your shins so beware!

Good workmanship and reasonably priced. Will order another set.

They look nice but pretty cheap construction. Petals difficult to rotate and take effort as if the bearings are either non-existant or cheaply made.n

I’ve been riding with these for about five years now at about 60 miles/week, give or take, and have had zero problems with them. Easy in, easy out, easy to adjust. A little on the heavy side, but durability comes at a price, and it’s not like I plan on racing in the Tour de France anyway so it doesn’t matter.

I have to say, apparently a lot of other people love these as well because the price for them has gone up considerably from when I bought them five years ago, but I do feel they are worth it considering these are the last pedals you’ll need to buy for a long time.

I’ve been using these grips for more than 10 years and have bought them also for friends and family. They are super safe and help avoid accidents when falling, by easily allowing your feet to slip out of them.

At the same time, they provide a firm steady grip during up and downhill rides.

Many snobs would turn their nose to these pedals, and there may be reasons for that. But I actually liked toe clips, or at least I got accustomed to them and the way they felt/worked on trails. These are like clips but even easier to pull out of if you need to.

If you want something that puts your foot in the right position on the pedal, allows you lean forward a little more without an endo, and allows you to lift up as well as push down on pedals, without having mountain bike shoes, these may be for ya.

I am not sure I have ever been m ore impressed with a product in mtb than these pedals. They are the best of both worlds – your feet stay in when you want them too and can move freely when you want them to.

I have been riding them on very tech, rocky trails and my feet never move around or slip, until I want to take my foot off – they are like magnets or something. Combine these with a hard-soled shoe – I have been riding Etnies Crank series but 510s, etc will do the trick – and you have a better system than clips.

I STRONGLY believe that everyone would have more fun biking with these pedals. And they look damn good! The dagga confirms what I have always known – that flats are for nerds! High price point cannot be considered a con here, as you are paying for such a high quality product meant to last you through years of hard shredding.

Well worth the investment to take your enjoyment of flat pedals to another level.

Loving these so far. As someone with a sz13 shoe I wanted the biggest platform I could find. Not disappointed at all. Watch your shins though! With great traction comes great responsibility.

Best flat pedals ever!!! The pins may look scary, but they’ll never leave your feet so your shins will never even notice! They are large, pedal strikes can happen, but even when a pedal hits a rock my foot has not slipped off the pedal once!.

These pedals replaced an old pair of Time Atacs. Compared to the Atacs, entry and exit is very easy. I recently fractured my ankle, and the effort to get out of the Atacs was worrisome. I have no such worries with these pedals.

The release is a little mushy, but thats a minor concern for commuting and touring. It might be a bigger problem for racers. The platform is big enough to provide support up to 30 miles or so. I havent yet gone on any longer rides, so I cant address all-day comfort.

The quality seems excellent, as expected from Look. All in all a great set of pedals.

Very cheap in red compared to black. I don’t mind – can’t see when I am on the bike, nobody else to admire them in Covid times and they match the orange, grey, black and yellow highlights elsewhere on my bike.

I am using Shimano SPD cleats (rather than the supplied Look ones) which seem fine. They are on my road bike and I have done 3 x 100k rides and a number of 50k rides on them and so far they are comfortable, secure and solid.

Replaced Shimano M530s with these as I wondered if Looks offer a better pedalling platform. Maybe its an illusion but I think the Looks are marginally better than the M530s. Great price, fast response from Westbrook.

I’ve ridden maybe 7hrs on these so far, so early days but first impressions are good. They feel noticeably more stable under foot than my old SPDs. Click in/out feels identical – I haven’t bothered changing cleats yet and now don’t know if I will.

Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that they don’t spin as freely as I’d like. Of course I don’t notice any resistance when pedalling, but who wants to be wasting 0. 3 watts? 😉.

In my personal opinion these pedals are great, easy to put on and take off. You feel very safe when you stand on your bike to ride faster. I recommend them.

Having been used to Look Keo pedals I find the engage/dis-engage more of these pedals more positive and secure. They were supplied with cleats which makes them really good value. I highly recommend them.

I’ve never pulled out of time pedals, and these are no different at a great price point
