20 Best Bike Frame Adapter Bar (2023 Updated)

The first one that I bought on Dec 20, 2021 directly from Saris, impressed me so much, I bought a second one in Jan, 2022 from my local bike shop. Now, I have 2 to accommodate 2 bikes on my hitch mount bike rack.

Again, I am impressed with its weight (steel, not summer folding chair light aluminum), heft, easy to extend its length to fit your bike, and quality build (very little play). The jaw ends are coated with a protective material (almost feels like rubber) to protect the finish on your bike.

Opening the jaws of the ends does require a strong thumb press on a rectangular button (OK with me, jaws will not open by themselves) and then closing the jaws goes very easy if you grasp both serrated sides of each jaw (not the top and bottom) and push forward and you will get an audible locking click.

As a side benefit, the front jaw has a dimple in it that holds the handlebar and consequently front wheel straight. Saris makes good stuff, Happy Camper.

What a game-changer being able to take my bike anywhere. A friend gave me the bike rack from Saris, I didn’t know I needed a bike beam. After looking up the bike rack on Saris, I ordered the was able to order bike beam and it arrived in a few days (no extra shipping charge) Just wonderful and so easy to use!! I wish I ordered 2 if I need one for a second bike.

We bought a towbar ‘hanging’ bike rack – not from Evans but from the towbar installer – along with bars to go between the seat and the handlebars for ladies & kids bikes to hold the bikes on the rack.

These resemble an S in shape and where the bike frames are so small they just fell off. Needless to say the bike rack (and Christmas presents) were not useable in the way we wanted. Evans (Maidstone) were very helpful.

They came out of the store and let me try one of their bars – which are closed at each end so the bike will not fall off – on the bike and bike rack. They also have a wider working range – both smaller and larger – than the ones we had.

They were dearer than the branded ones we had, but because they were demonstrated to us and the store was open I was more than happy to pay the small premium. Not only does the item do as it is meant to do but the support from the store in Maidstone means I will be more than happy to return.

HEAVY DUTY – very easy to use – only drawback – is I wish it had more extending options. every bike it a different width from the seat to the handle bar. But serves the purpose to hold the bike to the bike rack! I like the silicone ends – there are ones out there that are do not have the silicone on the parts that attach to the bike! When it’s on a bike rack it will rub and scratch the bike.

It moves all over the place when attached to seat and handle front. It doesn’t lock into place so you can’t really secure it. It works but it can easily scratch ur bike and stuff because it doesn’t stay in place.

Going back.

I had no idea this product existed and I am glad I found it! It worked perfectly for a Giant step through bike transported on a trailer hitch mount bike rack. Easy to use and very sturdy. Only wish is that there are more locking positions in the sliding bar to secure a shorter length.

This works great for what it is made for. I can easily put my small frame bicycle on my yakima bike hitch rack now whereas before I could not. My only complaint with the product is that I wish you could lock the length of the adapter like you would a shower curtain or something because the way it is now the adapter moves around a lot because the length is not lockable.

I got this for my new mountain bike that doesn’t fit on my existing rack. It does the job but doesn’t carry bikes as well as standard bikes that don’t require this bar. I found I needed a couple of extra bungies.

One to keep the front tire from rotating and banging up my brake and shifter levers. Another from the bike to the bottom of the rack to keep the bike from swaying. Neither are needed for my road bike or wife’s hybrid.

The new mountain bike has a dropper post which is too big for the vertical stabilizer strap. I have to open the brace up a little farther so the strap goes around the upper section of the dropper post.

I was surprised that the telescoping arm doesn’t lock. This assumes you are using a quality rack with rubber and not velcro straps. It is the rubber straps on your rack that keeps the telescoping arm from opening while you go down the road.

The delivery and packaging was fine but I was really tempted to send the bar back but didn’t feel like dealing with a return. The push pins to open the collars are way too shallow. You can struggle to open with your fingers but I may just keep a small stick or screw in my pocket to push the pins in.

That is until I get aggravated enough and go buy a different one.

Precision-crafted. Easy to use. Use it when transporting you bicycle on a car rack. The steel tube is strong, hollow and lightweight. The hooks at each end are a solid heavy-duty molded plastic that are very sturdy.

Bikes are not just ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ bikes anymore. Many bicycles have a modified frame that moves the cross-tube (upper) down too far to make mounting the bike on a rack easy. This bar takes the place of the cross (upper) tube by hooking under the handlebar neck and the seat pillar.

This gives a great location to use to mount your bike on the rack. I bought one for my wifes bike, which is a traditional ‘girls’ bike (without the upper cross tube), and it made such a difference in allowing me to hang the bike on the rack.

I bought another one for my mountain bike which needed a taller cross tube for transport.

These are more solid and easier to use than two more expensive , and they cost less. I know that because I bought the others (a few years ago) before these Hollywoods. The Hollywood’s hooks are stouter and open easier (when you’re trying), and they’re more solid.

I’d get these again. I have two other Hollywood racks, and. look: Hollywood’s been making racks for almost fifty years. They’ve always been good, and the best values.

My wife and I purchased the Hollywood bike rack a few weeks ago and needed the Hollywood adapter BA-Pro adapter for her bike because the middle post was extremely low. The middle post on a bike is where the rack secures the bike.

The adapter adds a temporary bridge for the rack to secure the bike. after several weeks with the adapter, It has held the bike very securely to the rack and is easy to take off for bike use. I would highly recommend this product for Hollywood bike racks.

The bar was supposed to expand for easy attachment to bike. The latches were easy to work but the bar would not expand, which rendered it usless. The edges were item sits against the frame did not have any protection on the metal to protect from scratches.

Great idea for old type bike racks, ours from garage sale carries 4 bikes of any frame shape. a bonus is they work really well with the current wide handlebar fashion for long trips or lots of on and off just leave the bar adapter clamped in place and just attach the bike.

Rack is very solid, easy to put together and install and easy to use. I consistently monitor my bikes through the rear view mirror while driving and I’ve seen no signs of movement. We’ve carried a variety of bikes on the rack and they all have been very secure, no signs of slippage of either hold.

You do have to be careful to align the bike so that the front wheel nests against the stop (rather than on top of it, for example). Only complaint is adjusting for wheel size on the holds is a bit clunky – you have to unthread a bolt (like a through-axle) and it’s a bit of a trick to line it up for the appropriate wheel size; I’m sure they can improve on that one element of the design.

Amazing tray system! The connection between tray and hitch mech is simple and very secure. Love that is comes with threaded lock pin. Love the long locking cables. Love that the tray rotates all the way down down to be used as a bike rack while bikes are unloaded.

Love the 4 tray setting points on the hitch mech. I did like they way the previous model trays could collapse to make the entire assembly smaller.

I was looking for a modular bike tray I could adapt to dirt bike carrier I typically keep mounted to my hitch, and this tray fitted the bill. It appears to be well made and fairly easy to operate. But here are a few things you should be aware of: 1) if you have a bike with 29″ wheels, the bike won’t seat perfectly symmetric on the tray due to the block for the front wheel, which means that your front wheel could stick out a bit relative to your car if you have a small vehicle 2) I have seen YouTube reviews suggesting that the bike should be plenty secured w/o the use of the provided front wheel block and/or rear wheel strap.

I completely disagree, not only should you always make use of both, but I would also strap the front wheel for complete piece of mind. I experienced my front wheel almost coming loose from the tray once.

You can order an additional wheel strap from Saris for $10 plus shipping. 3) Unless you plan to keep this rack system mounted to your car most of the time, keep in mind that once you start adding trays this system will get heavy and will require a lot of storage space.

The width is a bit short so that both sides of my Surly Krampus axle did not rest on the lip. It is very hard to balance the bike with one hand and thread the axle through the fork and get it fastened.

One side slipped off of the adapter and the bike just about fell on the roof of the car. There are other options where you re-attach the axle to the fork once the wheel is removed, and then lift the bike onto the car.

This gives you a stable support for the front end when finishing the attachment. I returned this unit. Also, the width of the original adapter I purchased was miss labeled. I had to return that one to REI and purchased the correct width elsewhere.

If you purchase check the width before you take it home.

It flops back and forth too easily. You install the dropouts of this thing in your current non-boost rack in an upright position. Tighten it up as much as you can. The dropouts seem thinner than a standard fork dropout and some of my Yakima rack skewers can’t even clamp it tightly.

I found that over the course of a long drive the bike moved forward and this flopped down. The bike stayed on, but it could have possibly marred my sliders.

I initially bought the 100mm adaptor and was bummed to realize I had bought the wrong size. Didn’t even consider the boost spacing. So, I was excited to find this at such a good price. It would be better if it had some way of locking and not rotating front to back, but it has not caused a problem in the several times that I’ve used it.

Easy to install and secure.

We purchased an E-bike for my wife and that was the good news. After having the bike delivered to us we discovered that our existing bike rack would not be compatible with the 60 lbs E-bike. After searching for an appropriate rack that would accommodate her bike I came across the Saris MHS rack.

The rack itself is very heavy duty. It will easily fit both of our bikes very securely. With our previous rack I always kept one eye on the rear view mirror to watch the bikes to see if they were going to fall off.

With the Saris MHS rack i can confidently drive with a knowledge that our bikes are very secure. This is a bike rack that will last us a long time. The customer service was very good with their advice on the different racks.

I’ve had the Saris MHS 2 bike rack system for over a month so far. I’ve used it on a few trips and it is very solid. It holds bikes well, is very well designed, heavy-duty (and feels it), has a nice integrated locking cable.

It should last forever. I previously had the Saris Superclamp 2. The Superclamp was very light and worked with 1. 25 receiver hitches but even thought the bikes were secure, the rack allows a lot of side to side hobby-horsing.

I like Saris racks because they use two wheel holders opposing each other instead of one because there is no frame or fork contact.

Doesn’t fit a class 1 hitch. Documentation doesn’t show this anywhere and phone support was unaware of this limitation. It’s also fairly heavy at around 101 lbs if you have it setup for two bikes.

This adapter works well on Delta rear racks for bikes that lack insert slots on the upper frame. This adapter is much better than opting for a seat post upper mount as it usually puts the rack too high up above tires.

This solved my problem of installing my bike rear carrier. Directions were clear and all parts fit.

Makes having a rack on a beach cruiser a lot easier. Great quality and easy to install!

This product really deserves 2 reviews. A positive and a negative and this really reflects on all bike frame adapters and not just Thule’s. If you’re looking to purchase a replacement bike rack or are a first time buyer.

Do yourself a favour and get yourself set up with a Platform hitch rack or a set of roof mounted carriers they are a much more user friendly way of hauling your bikes around. The Frame adapter (regardless of brand) will work to get your bike mounted on a hanging style rack but it isn’t an ideal solution and I would recommend avoiding the use of it where possible.

For people who own a pre-existing hanging style bike rack this will help get your tough to fit bike on the road without having to purchase a completely new rack. However well the product works it relies on compatibility with your bike.

The way this item installs is by sitting under your seat and under your handle bars, different seats vary so all this is trying to do fit around your seat stem. Some seats can sit weird or you’ll have unwanted pressure or pinch points on the seat itself.

The frame adapter is also effected by the height of the seat as well. The higher your seat is raised the lower your bike will hang. This means your bike tires may be 2inches off the ground if you have a low ground clearance vehicle like a car or mini van because your seat is high.

You’ll need to adjust your seat post down to raise the bike up. Your bike rack will hold the bike frame in place but there is nothing holding your actual bike. So yes it will bounce and move around, items like the safety strap which are included with Thule hanging bike racks will help reduce the movement but not eliminate it.

This can lead to additional marring of the frame or damage to the carrier. All in all it is a good if not only solution for mounting an odd framed bike to a hanging style bike rack you already own. It 100% is still better than jamming your bike in the trunk of your vehicle.

These were a huge help. Anyone knows that a women’s bike is very different then a men’s bike with the top tube placed very differently. That slanted tube makes it very difficult to mount the bike along with other bikes.

I have a 5 bike rack and 2 girls bikes and could not mount them all until I use this. As a safely measure Thule gives you a strap to keep bikes from swaying which is even more important when using these.

The best way to use this is to snap the clamp under your seat tube loosen/tighten mechanism to keep the bike high off the ground. Then the front clamp goes around the steering tube. But for safety, you then need to use a nylon strap to affix the bike frame to the bike rack.

Otherwise, your bike would fall if one of the clamps let go. The advantage of a hanging bike rack is that it is lightweight compared to one where you need a trailer hitch to install, can be taken off easily and stored in the trunk.

The only problem I’m now having is finding a Frame Adapter to fit around the head tube of my new ebike. The head tube is much larger than on a manual pedal bike.

Had to return this as it was too long to fit my Dawes ladies bike. No problem with return and refund but no measurements are shown on the website. I did a “click and collect” as it was not stocked in my local store but then had to have two journeys to the store.

I needed an adapter for a step through ladies frame so the bike can be loaded onto a tailgate bike rack. Adapter by Thule seems to be the only product on the market that does this. Rutland Cycling has this in stock at a competitive price and delivered in just a few days.

Well made product as you would expect from Thule. Seems to work well so far.

Bought this for my partner so she can transport her bike on her car carrier. Sturdy and robustly made but could be improved. Maybe a wider part to the bar middle of the bar for better purchase on cycle racks.

Also may be small toggle bars just to help with the tightening of the bar to the bike frame. But other than that its great.

Great addition for travelling with a womens bike. This does not fit my electric bike though due to the battery placement.

The bar automatically adjust the length, fits perfectly on my MTB. However I noticed once that one of the side was open after carrying it on my rack, hoping it is just my mistake as I didn’t close it correctly but will monitor this closely.

Supports are too narrow for 4. 6 sized tires. Other issue is that, contrary to the standard width supports, which come with one support having a clip facing the front and one facing the back these fat bike supports only come with clips facing the front.

This causes the clips to get in the way of the transverse bars thus limiting the required adjustment for different sized bikes.

With the acquistion of a 29 the standard wheel holders were too narrow. These are great because they just slide onto the Proride rail. Very easy to mount.

If you ride a bike with > 3″ tyres and you want to transport it on the car with a Thule system you’ll need a pair of ProRide Fat Bike Adapters. Thule have got it spot on they just do the job that they’re intended for, no messing.

A bit pricey when you’ve already spent loads of dosh on your Bike Carrier, but it means your bike’s safe and won’t fall off.

So handy if you are taking that extra person, easy to connect.

This adapter is a great value for what it’s used for. I’ve seen other ones priced in the $40-50 range and this works the same. The one place that it could be improved upon is the top part that goes around the bike stem – it needs some sort of wrap/protective covering so as to not scratch the bike stem.

I put a piece of cardboard underneath so it doesn’t rest on/tear up the paint.

Bought two Electric bikes that have unusual shapes so they couldn’t fit on my small sedan bike rack. I bought two of these adaptor bars and they fit on both bikes quite well. The Adaptor bars are reasonably priced and well made.

They are adjustable and easy to use, although you need some muscle to extend them. Very sturdy and safe.

I bought this to adapt my Liv Rove XS size bike frame to fit a car rack. The top tube length being 450mm, therefore standard adapters don’t work. Noting a few things: I had to adjust the handlebars, adding spacers to raise up enough to fit the end of the adapter.

And raise the seat up higher to create a level bar to fit on the rack. It’s never easy when you’re not standard height eh? Products are made for a default height and size. Anyway, this was cheaper than most adapters and worked.

Which meant I could take my own bike on holiday. Great result even if a bit of work required.

This is very poor. It is so difficult to assemble correctly for first use, brute force is needed to remove an end plug as part of this process. Then I discovered that to make use of it, the bar has to be fixed to the bike.

This involves removing the end couplings and then attaching one around the handlebar post and fastening it to the bar itself with a nut and bolt. This procedure then has to be repeated to attach the other end of the bar to the seat post.

When the bike is then seated and bound on the rack, it can bounce and move around quite a lot. After removing the bike from the rack, before cycling, the attachment procedure has to be completed in reverse to remove the bar from the bike.

All in all, a very poor design, almost so bad as to be unfit for purpose. The price is about 65% of the Thule version, but it is so poor that I can’t use it.

This device is usable, but only just and unlike a competitor product which simply wouldn’t work for the same reason. It is designed to provide a cross bar to hang on the sort of bike carrier which fits on a towbar or some similar system.

The problem with this device is that it is too long, so it is very difficult to get a slim crossbar to hang on the two prongs of the carrier. You wind up with the thick, complex ends resting on the prongs and it is very difficult to strap them safely down.

The whole thing need to be made so that a piece of simple pipework rests on the prongs. All women’s bikes are much the same size so it shouldn’t be impossible to design this. Despite this criticism we will keep this device and try to use it with a two-prong cycle carrier.
