20 Best Bike Baskets For Dogs (2023 Updated)

This dog basket is only suitable for very very small dogs. My dog is under 6kg and I don’t think a dog larger than say 8kg would be very comfortable. I did find it a hard to get the buddy basket to mount on my rear rack behind my seat.

So that is something to consider, the depth/length of your rack and if this basket will fit behind your bike seat.

We had been searching for a carrier that had a cage cover so we could take our doggo on the ferry. This is just what we needed. It is easy to remove and re-attach and the handle folds down so it’s out of the way.

It has some flex (which makes his ride a bit more comfortable than in the rear basket) and it is the perfect size for him – a place where he can feel safe and sound and I can keep an eye on him.

Our little girl loves her bike basket , being at the front she can enjoy the ride ! Beats leaving her at home. Just purchase the cage as well for addition safety.

Don’t go by the dimensions listed which is the widest part. The basket is much smaller/narrow at the bottom. I would say any dog longer than 15″ (including head) is too big for this basket. Also, your dog must be super short if you want the top on.

I also made the mistake of ordering from “Bikeanywhere” as all returns must be mailed back to their warehouse in FLORIDA instead of the option of returning to the closest Walmart store. The lowest shipping cost back to Florida is 50% the price of the basket.

I thought I was ordering from Walmart?!? Will not be ordering from Walmart online again.

I can’t believe someone would need instructions to install this basket it’s pretty much self-explanatory. Check out the reviews , tips and photos I put on Amazon. It’s awesome. Always make sure you use a basket liner like an old shirt turned inside out or whatever so dog nails don’t accidentally get stuck in the mesh holes.

I have put both of my Chihuahuas in this basket daily for several years with no issues.

Pet Safe, you have won my girls over with this Happy Ride Wicker Bicycle Basket. I love being outdoors but since my babies are so small and the roads get a little too hot here in Texas for their little paws for long walks, this Happy Rider Wicker Basket has made it possible for me to take my babies with me when I go for my evening rides.

Now when they see me go to the garage in the evening they go nuts. Both of them get so excited and start running in circles, jumping up and down and tails going non stop. They love it! I was not sure that either one would go for it at first but boy was I wrong.

It is incredibly enjoyable for all of us. I love that it is covered so they are shaded and that it had a very soft padding inside the Basket. I also love that they can be safely buckled in the Basket so I don’t have to worry about them jumping out for any reason.

I am highly impressed with this product and definitely recommend.

I mounted this on my RAD mini step thru handlebars. Once mounted only with the included mounting hardware and straps. it was very stable. I have a 5 pound Papillion, she fits well in the basket, when seated it is at her shoulder neck level.

Enough room for her to probably lay down. When she moved around, it did not interfere with driving the bike – basket stays stable. Have not tried folding it with mount on it yet. Saw somewhere it says real sheepskin – this one not real sheepskin it is acrylic.

I wanted a bike basket so I could take my beautiful baby for bike rides. I know she will love it. Hazel is a “mini” Australian Shepard. She is not a large dog but she is not “small” either (wears M clothing) – no body shaming here, she is a real princess.

This is exactly what I am looking for (I bought the large size). There is wiggle room for her to move around. It is winter so I have not tested it yet. I will add a “rack” for this basket to sit on so that it does not droop as some people have had issues with.

The price was a little more than I wanted to spend – waited for it to go on sale PLUS I used a coupon. Had free shipping and the delivery was SOOOO fast!!! Overall, I am 100% happy with it – Love that the lining can come out and be washed – heavy duty fabric and a quality basket.

On Sinch bike. Bracket bottom extension puts basket at an angle outwards. Not much space on handlebars to strap basket. Dog safety straps are not adjustable, so the dog moves and presses the basket against the brake handle and shuts off any assist level the bike is on.

I used zip ties on the lower bracket and will try to tighten up the safety straps.

This basket is great in the daylight, but at night the basket sits too high and the bike light shines into the basket and not on the road. The bright light shining / reflecting off the inside of the basket makes seeing the road very difficult.

If your going to ride at night take a good headlamp and cover the bike light so you can see the road.

I was surprised to find the basket so well made, it is a heavy duty bike basket that is made to last. It has multiple pockets as pictured, the front has 2 pockets and although it is not depicted in the product picture, the rain cover is stored in the lower and larger of the 2 pockets, and it is attached to a strap that is sewed into the interior of the top smaller pocket.

This way, you won’t misplaced it, and in situation where the rain cover is in used, it will remain attached to the bike basket if it was to come loose. It also has a cardboard insert that helps make the base of the basket hard providing support for the puppy, and helping to keep the shape of the basket.

At the top of the basket, the 2 straps sits across the top taking up a couple of inches of the opening of the basket on each side. Inside the basket, there is an adjustable strap that is used to secure the dog into the basket.

There is a metal bar that is inserted into the bottom of the basket that serves several purposes: 1- it keeps the basket in its form when expanded, 2- it provides some support when the dog is in the basket, and 3- it leans against the bike to stabilize the basket.

One of the safety flaws is that this metal bar doesn’t really support the dog’s weight (#2) because it is leaned against the bike rather than installed onto the bike frame to provide permanent stability.

It can slightly swing to the right and left when weights are added to the basket and the bike is moving. This could be fixed by adding a couple of bungee cords. I also used the bungee cords for another important safety reason (mentioned below).

The basket is held onto the bike by 2 straps with plastic clips. With my puppy being only 11 lbs, the straps and clips SHOULD hold the basket in place with my dog is in it. Unfortunately, when the straps are not wrapped around the handle in a certain angle, even when adjusted, it could slip from the clip which loosen up the strap from the bike handle with just a light push do.

I bought this along with the Solvit Tagalong bicycle basket and the Snoozer basket is much worse. The Snoozer basket is not made very sturdy, which I noticed when I hold it in my hand (compare to the other one).

The rectangular basket would deform readily. It is very apparent when it is attached to the bicycle with the dog inside, it wobbles a lot and is making my dog very anxious. I tried to tighten the straps as much as possible and it is still wobbly.

The water bottle holder design is also poor. It angles diagonally towards the rider, which for us it right into the handle bar brakes. there’s no way to put any taller bottles in it, and it is very difficult to even put or remove a shorter bottom because the brake is always in the way.

The only plus is that this basket requires no permanent mounts on the bicycle so it can be moved between multiple bicycles easily. However it also means it is not very firmly affixed onto the bicycle which cause it to slightly slide back and forth on the handle bar even with the straps tightened as much as possible.

I’ll be returning this and get a second Solvit Tagalong basket instead.

I have owned 2 bike shops. I have been a certified bicycle mechanic since the 1970’s. i’m currently an avid rider logging between 80-200 miles per week. I know bicycles inside and out. This is the very worst accessory for a bicycle I have ever seen! I would never put my dog in this carrier.

Here are the issues:1) NO secure attachment to the bike. The straps just go around the bars and it relays on weight and gravity to hold it down. It literally hangs on the bike. 2) The bottom bar just leans against the frame.

3) If you hit a bump the basket and the dog will go flying in the air and your dog will likely be hung. 4) It will ONLY work, as advertised, with a tall goose neck (handlebar riser). 5) Interferes with brake and gear cables.

Even an inexpensive bike basket will have secure clamps that attach to your bars and have solid supports that attach to your forks. This has neither. It literally hangs on the bars. Other reviews here are not from people with an engineering degree.

====== GW LITTLE RESPONSE: While we appreciate the engineering perspective we must say he’s missing the end user’s objective for using this basket. Having used both Snoozer models ourselves for many years and over many miles we’ve never experienced any issues with these baskets.

Yes, prudence dictates you make sure the basket works on your style bike and does not interfere with cable controls, and adding weight to the front of the bike will affect its handling. It causes you to slow down.

You would have to go over a pretty severe bump to dislodge the basket and dog, and even if someone lost control going over big bumps their dog should not be hung since you will be using a harness and not a collar attached to the tether strap.

Also, it’s extremely doubtful anyone using these baskets with their most precious cargo would ride aggressively. It’s certainly not meant to go racing or off-road mountain bike riding, but rather enjoyable leisurely rides with your dog.

We have no reservations.

Basil makes the best bike baskets; wired or wood. All of our bikes have them, here and in Valencia.

Easy to attach and stable, good quality and resists the rain well so far.

Bought this for my mini schnauzer. She is only 4 months at the moment but so far so good. She got used to it very quickly. I hope to get a lot of use out of it but am not sure how big she will be so it is early days yet.

The inner harness worked well but I would have preferred something that maybe hooked on two sides for extra safety – also, I had to zip the mesh round most of her to stop her trying to jump out. It would be lovely to see an mesh top in a sort of dome shape so she could sit within it – or have a centre opening in the mesh rather than having to have her look out of one corner.

Just a small thing but I think it might make a difference. A great buy so far :-).

Basket kept popping out of fixing on one side and even when attached began to rub on front tyre despite altering angle of fixing. Used our own strapping to secure more firmly and then worked really well particularly on roads (still kept bouncing occasionally on front tyre when off road).

Our dog (Border Terrier) is at top end of weight range recommended by Inner Wolf (7kg) so would probably work really well for a smaller dog. Dog was quite happy in it – short leash attached to basket worked well.

Once the bracket is on, the basket is easy and quick to get on and off the bike and as it folds up it takes up little room when not in use. It could do with more straps to secure the dog in the basket.

One strap on one side allows the dog to easily jump out that side. I have had to add additional straps to keep the dog safely secured in the basket.

Auch wenn er preislich etwas hher liegt, so ist es schon praktisch ihn mit einem handgriff anzuklicken, bzw. abzuklicken und nicht ewig daran rumzuhantieren. Das Material ist gut und ich kann nichts daran aussetzen.

Allerdings dachte ich er wre abschliebar, was ich so vermutet hatte, durch die Fotos. Allerdings ist er es nicht:(. Das htte ich mir fr den Preis schon gewnscht. Da muss ich jetzt schauen ob es mglich ist auf abschliebar zu erweitern.

Aber alles in allem sehr empfehlenswert.

Einfach in den Gepcktrger reinklicken, den Hund in den Korb setzen, das Gitter verschliessen (kinderleicht) und los geht’s. Unser Hund wiegt 6 kg und hat genug Platz. Der Korb sitzt bombenfest. Er ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Ich kaufe mir noch ein passendes Schlo. Fr das Produkt und den Verkufer “Radfachmarkt” Note 1 a+.

We had no problems with the instructions or putting it on my 10 speed bike! I put my 11 pound Yorkie in the basket, hooked him in and took him for a quick test ride. He loved it. He fits comfortable in it and can actual move around to reposition if needed.

We took a 2 mile ride in the neighborhood and he did wonderful with watching cars go by and even seeing squirrels. I also took my 7 pound cat for a ride. He uses a harness like the dog and we also hook him up with the attached lead.

He had plenty of room and after about 3 minutes or so he settled down and really enjoyed being outside and going for a ride. The basket seems well made and I love all the pockets so I can carry my phone, water, and dog leash.

I will be buying a second basket for my other dog so she can join us at the same time!.

This product is perfect! It’s roomy for the dog and has outside pockets for other things such as for a leash, harness, water bottle, keys, treats, lunch, etc. I have a 16 pound Lhasa Apso who just loves riding in it either sideways or sitting forward with her paws up on the front.

Since she is calm, I do not use the provided hook to keep her inside. Not having her hooked in was advantageous when I fell with the bike. She simply jumped out when the bike tipped over and escaped any injury.

And, since the side insert of the basket broke as a result of the impact, the company replaced the entire basket free due to its lifetime warrantee! While the bottom is soft, I keep a folded towel in there to add more cushion.

When it’s cold, I replace it with a small blanket. I highly recommend this basket. It is sturdy, attaches easily to the bike, provides shade from the sun, and gives you the ability to see your pet and for the pet to see you at all times.

To be fair I had a bracket on my trek bikes front ( to bungee packages or helmet on ) so my son assembled this for Mother’s Day , he sat it on top of existing bracket so it’s very solid on bottom! – I have 16 lb Westie that loved it from ride one ! She sat straight up on her butt , not moving strapped in looking straight ahead ! She adored the wind in her face ! ( now I’m awaiting a bike pump to get her back on her rides !we can ride to the dog park where her friends are ! I bought this in may (elsewhere )when these were sold out everywhere! I wanted the wicker one bad, but couldn’t find it anywhere ! I normally but every thing from chewy but had to pay about 80$ for this from another pet place ( bc of Covid ).

This one is levelled. I have used it with my cat yet, but it seems sturdy. I am a little worried they will fit through the gaps though.

Good idea but not very stable and need to take spanner with you!!!! First trip out we realised most of the bolts had wriggled off and the basket was wobbling all over We had to use extra ties to secure it to the bike.

OMG, this is the funnest thing ever. My 11. 5 year old Brussels Griffon, Bogey, absolutely loves it. He’s happy as long as he’s where I am. We thoroughly enjoy taking little treks in the neighborhood and he just sits up and looks around.

It is hilarious. I, of course, ride around with the biggest grin on my face because he’s the cutest thing ever! Wicked easy to install and is very sturdy.

I was looking for a safe and comfortable basket to include my 12 lb poodle mix on rides on the back of my E-bike. When I received this basket, I was shocked at how unwieldy it is. Because of its size, I was convinced it would never be stable on the back luggage rack of my bike, especially when my dog climbed aboard.

I was wrong. The basket is very stable and my dog hopped right in and enjoys a very posh ride. The restraint system allows your dog to stand up, sit and lay down, but keeps them securely inside. Overall, I am satisfied with this product.

To be honest I was expecting something a little higher quality for $70. The overall shape is good but why doesn’t it have some sort of rigid bottom?? My bike rack bites into the foam and the foam leaves a gross residue on my rear rack.

The mounting method doesn’t leave room for panniers. This was clearly designed with beach cruises, not long or athletic adventures in mind. The strap to keep your dog inside the seat will leave them dangling over the edge if they try to hop out.

I’m going to end up doing a lot of my own modifications to get this to work how i need it to. I think other reviewers have mentioned black overheating in the summer time. This is true so I’ll also be sewing a light colored slipcover or some sort of shade canopy for it.

All in all, it just doesn’t seem like it was designed by anyone who understands the breadth of bicycle racks and riding styles and how they interplay with having a dog along for the ride.

I needed a basket that would fit my weirdly shaped electric bike. This basket has straps and I was able to securely fit it on my bike with some adjustments. It is nice and soft and is big enough for my 20 pound dog.

But I have to clip the strap (the one inside the basket) on his collar because if I attach it to his harness he can still jump out.

I have a mini dachshund who after some getting used to, love the basket! It is very sturdy on my mountain bike handle bars with plenty of clearance between the bottom of the basket and the top of my front tire.

I would not have gotten it if it did not have the clip on the inside to connect to my pups harness to prevent him from falling (or voluntarily jumping) out. The only thing I haven’t figured out is how to put the little shade cover on but to be honest, probably won’t ever need to use it.

The basket is easy to take off and put back on my bike (the attachments stay in place the basket itself slides on and off of it). Love all of the additional pockets for water, leash, treats, keys etc.

Highly recommend for someone wanting to go for a bike ride but feeling guilty about leaving your little guy at home! My dog is roughly 10 pounds and I think this basket could hold more.

DO NOT Buy as complete unsafe and impossible to fit it in a safe way for your pet. My dog ( 2kg) fell of it and had to use a sturdy car roof rack ropes to keep it in position. No refund as tags were taken off while trying to fit it.

This is a great product but I did have to modify the fitting as my Rack is not a standard one. It fits well and is very safe and my dog love’s it.

The straps were far too long so we had to get them adjusted by a seamstress so the seat wasnt sat on the wheel of the bike. Weve also noticed after two uses that the straps look like theyll come away from the basket soon and our dog is only a small miniature dachshund so not too heavy.

Other than that the secure strap is great and my dog loves it, just shame about the quality.

Well made sturdy safe carrier dog loves it as when tired he hops in once been for a run means I can cycle on roads etc go further. Advice let dog get used to carrier first! And may have to wrap straps around to secure depending on type of bicycle you have.

Love this… and Jack my jackapoo loves it too….only negative… no instructions to help to do the little construction it needs…I worked it out but it’s not the easiest!!
