20 Best Bike Bags For Groceries (2023 Updated)

What a wonderful design, they attach to my rear rack in an instant and fold neatly when not in use. I line these with cloth shopping bags (those blue bags from Wal-Mart fit perfectly) so I don’t have to take these off when getting the groceries home.

I can fold those cloth bags inside the saddle bags when not in use too. Fit will vary depending on rear rack design but these are very universal out of the box and gave me no problems. I highly recommend these saddle bags, even over my waterproof dry- bag style saddlebags.

They look and feel very sturdy too.

These move groceries well. Folds up aerodynamically clean and quickly opens for work. Roomy, well constructed and can handle the weight (estimate 15-20 lbs max/side). In terms of size, one side can fit six 2 liter bottles.

Been running these for 3 yrs and every year they require a maintenance inspection. The mounting hooks may loosen up which loctite secures. The hooks can and will do some damage to your rack rails which is easily prevented with tape or some insulator like tubing to protect the rails.

I am pleased with this purchase.

Well made, with wider capacity than many rear panniers and baskets; can be easily folded up or removed when not in use. Unfortunately, if you have a standard rear rack and large feet (mine are size 12), you may catch your heels on the panniers while peddling.

These panniers could be improved if the manufacturer installed the top hooks and bottom bunji 2″ closer to the front of the product, thus allowing for 2″ more of foot clearance. Meanwhile, I will have to fiddle around with extending my rear rack or find a rear rack that extends farther back over the rear wheel.

I’m very particular about stuff like this, and often feel that I just can’t find products that satisfy me. I’ve been using the same bag for over 20 years, even though it was getting really worn out, because I just couldn’t find a new bag that I liked.

The velcro attachment was so worn that I actually had to add an extra wrap-around velcro strap to hold the thing on. I would rather do that than use a bag I didn’t like. I’m so glad I found Orucase, and could finally retire that worn out bag.

I’m really happy with the build quality and simple (but secure) attachment method of the Orucase saddle bag. It also tucks under my saddle nicely and looks great, which also satisfies my picky nature.

I don’t get a lot of flats, so pack my saddle bag light, and this holds just what I want it to. I got the smaller size, and I carry one tube (road), a multi-tool that is, frankly, overly chunky for a road bike, an inflator head and cartridge.

There’s actually still some room, so I could get a little more in there if I really needed to. Overall, I think it’s a great little saddle bag. I highly recommend it.

I really like the voile strap attachment, It’s the reason why I bought this bag. I was tired of Velcro snagging my shorts, losing its grippiness over time and rendering a perfectly good saddle bag useless.

With this bag, I am comfortable that my gear stays dry, and if the voile strap gets ruined, I can replace it with another. This is a bag that I’m sure will last me a while. As far as storage goes, I am able to fit one tube, a single co2, the chuck, a quick link, a multi tool, and a tire lever.

I wish the bag was a little longer so the pedros tire lever fit easier, but the tight squeeze of everything makes for a dense and secure little burrito.

The stitching to attach the small band in the middle of the bag, where the rubber bell passes through, was broken after 2 rides(on normal paved road). I have to fix it by myself using a stronger nylon band of 1.

5 cm wide and apply multiple lines of stitching. It works very well and survives several hundreds of miles already. If the manufacture could enhance this part, it will be a good saddle bag.

Very high quality product if you need a small pannier. Looks to be waterproof as well. Just small capacity; like 2 purses sewn together. Would hold books, a jacket, lunch, etc. Reflective strips are bright.

Great bike bags. They are easy and quick to install onto your rack. They seem to be made very well. I like that the insides close the rack are reinforced to prevent sagging and also the insides are coated to help water resistance.

I love the look of the bag and the brand name, but that’s where it really ends. The bag fell off my Bontrager bike rack during my commute to work. This was the fourth time using the bag. On the way home the same day, one of the clips had come undone but the other one was still closed.

I could hear the rattle so I stopped, got off my bike and closed the lock clip. I’ve been afraid of the bag falling off ever since. The bag is difficult to roll and close. Then the shoulder straps have to be tucked in so I have to unroll it again after the bag has been clipped into the rack, tuck the strap in, roll and close again.

If I forgot to put something into the bag, I have to unroll it and roll it back up again. Quite cumbersome. I saw the organizer inside the bag and thought I could place my 14″ HP laptop in there, nope, I have to go out and get a separate laptop sleeve or the laptop rattles inside the bag.

I clip a rear bike light onto the bag, but the hook is so close to the carrying strap that it’s a struggle to try to turn on/off the light. Overall, I would return this bag if I could but I purchased it from a retailer outside my city and it would be a real pain to try to return it.

I’m quite disappointed that Thule would keep selling such a product.

Insane gas prices combined with gorgeous summer days were incentive enough to start using my bike to commute to work. I have a hybrid work model – part at home, the office and site visits. Consequently I have a lot of stuff to travel with.

The Thule panniers did the trick – they have loads of space. No longer am I strapping an extra bag with a bungee cord to the top of the rear bike rack. The panniers slip on and off easily, although I have to admit it was a bit of a learning curve to figure out how the top hooks secured to the rack.

I was caught in a torrential downpour and everything inside the panniers stayed dry (especially my laptop). Classic black with a shoulder strap is perfect for work, but these will also be great for bike touring.

I drive the set with additional smaller outer pockets for quick access to tools, camera or cutlery for on the road. Absolute recommendation for bike travelers who have to rely on their luggage bags. Safe quick mounting and 100% waterproof.

I took these bags on a 2200km, 3-week tour through France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. I don’t usually right reviews but this needs to be said. I’ll start with the positive; they’re waterproof, the material is thick and durable.

They’re big and are pretty much all I used to store my things. However, the fixings scratched the paint away on my pannier and the frame of my new bike. After every day I had to readjust the hooks because they would edge towards each other.

The lower hooks would simply come out of their fixings if riding on bumpy terrain. I would find myself wondering why my bike feels wobbly, invariably it would be because something needed adjusting on the panniers.

Of course, I returned them but there’s no placing the paintwork on my bike. Highly not recommended for any serious touring.

I discovered very quickly that with Panniers one gets what they pay for. And these bags are no exception. A bit pricier than the others but their connection mechanism at the top of the bag is superb.

The lower mechanism I think works fine but perhaps isn’t designed with disc brake pannier racks in mind so it gets put under some additional strain. But that written, the bags don’t move and are securely locked in place no matter the terrain I’m riding on.

Inside zip pockets and roll top waterproof material ensure that anything you stow stays dry and where you put it. The bags hold a lot and I bough two but have only really ever managed to fill one. So maybe keep that in mind when considering purchasing singularly or two.

Overall, bags are good quality, absolutely a strong competitor to Ortlieb and the snap-on fixings are good quality and hold your bags on securely.

Almost there. Needs to be 1-1/2 inches wider to accommodate a decent quality compact tire pump. That’s what a bag is for, to put stuff you don’t have room to attach to areas of the frame, etc. Putting the tire pump in a bag is better than attachment to the frame, as it keeps the valve areas clean and getting clogged with mud, or being quickly lifted from the frame by an “unauthorized” user.

Aside from that, where a pump normally mounts is competed for by water bottle attachments, battery mounting points, and other uses for the frame tube mounting points. Other than that, bag is neat and well made, looks like it will last a long time.

If the size suits your needs, go for it.

Just what I expected. This will hold my road Bar Mitts and maybe another small item. Makes it easier to do a long ride with a big temperature swing without stuffing my road kit pockets completely full of stuff.

This is just the right size. Many of these cases are only big enough to hold a cell phone and maybe a set of keys. I need to carry a bike lock and cable, cell phone, wallet, etc. Many of these bags don’t retain their shape when loaded.

This bag has a stiffener to keep the rounded shape even when loaded. The material looks durable and zipper is heavy duty and has a rain/dust shield to keep the contents dry/clean. I use it under the seat but will also work on the handle bars as shown in the pic.

The only con is that it would be nice if there was a color selection, not just blah-black.

This picture is a bit deceiving. The bag that I received has Velcro strips on the side pouches which don’t reach all the way across. Thus the mounting straps were about 2 inches or so too short from my rack.

I had to attach extensions so it would properly fasten. I e-mailed Bushwacker with this information before I modified them with no response. A little upset about that. Besides that, it is a very high quality bag with lots of storage room.

I’m happy that my idea worked.

Good product, good price. My one caveat is that if your are looking for a rear rack bike bag that is easy to swithch-out for panniers on a regular basis, probably not the bag for you — bag is held on by velcro and not real easy to remove and re-install.

Plus might weaken the velcro if you removed it and reinstalled it often. That said, am satisfied with this bag.

I love the way this bike bag looks. It attaches securely to (most) bikes with one strap for the stem and two for the handlebar. PROS: – Looks great – Seems water resistant CONS: It would have been VERY easy to include alternative fastening points at the bottom of the bag as well, and that would give more options for fastening it! There is limited space to attach a bag on any bike.

Unfortunately this didn’t work out on my recumbent bike because I realized after installing that my knees would hit the bag as I pedal, a unique problem for a very unique bike. However, fasteners on the bottom would have allowed me to attach it somewhere else on the bike.

I would love to give this bag 5 stars, and probably will after I am sent new Velcro straps. I took the bag on it’s first ride in Kentucky on The Bourbon Tour this past weekend. It was great for holding snacks, otto lock, and my distillery purchases.

It was rainy, sunny, windy and all things in between, and my stuff stayed nice and dry. The bag is very good quality. The stitching and attention to detail were on point. I also purchased the small Bike Frame Bag, but have not had a chance to use.

The colors and size are perfect. Great for spare parts/tools, snacks, and extra layers (not all at once)! Rode with it through a random rainstorm and it is truly waterproof. Unfortunately, the velcro strips that come with them are absolute garbage.

The strips began separating from the adhesive after only a few uses and barely stick to each other. The velcro also catches on the webbing causing it to fray. I’ll be replacing them with some voile straps which will provide a tighter fit and increase the durability of the fabric.

This is a great bag for groceries, its just about the size of a brown paper bag, and cinches up nice and tight and flat when its empty. The only issue is with attaching it to the rack of my Aventure, I had to shorten the elastic hook quite a bit to get it to latch on the bottom of the rack, I’ll probably add some sort of permanent loop on the rack near the wheel hub so the bag has something to grab onto.

Other than that its a great bag that I use to keep my road kit in, chain, groceries, etc.

I was quite surprised by the weight. They are a rugged made design. I like the inner zipper compartment and the outer Velcro flaps ones. Plenty of room for gear, food, etc. The accessories were a nice touch, the tie down hooks and the carrying straps.

Off and on the Topeak carrier in seconds. I am a tough customer and this is tough, well made design. I was getting my bike repaired and realized that I could use the shoulder straps provided to walk home with them! First rate.

I also recently used both the inside and outside hideaway compartments. Again, a lot of thought went into the engineering and design. I am impressed. I have only had on set of panniers, and that was in 1977.

The Banjo brand fit my needs now most excellently.

Awesome design – unmatched capacity and functionality. I use it as my daily commuter bag as well as grocery shopping. This purchase was a replacement for an earlier version of the same product which finally reached its end of life.

I searched for an alternative first to avoid the expense of international shipping and and weak Aussie currency. In the end choose this product despite cost. No regrets. Only disappointment is that the mounting/backing board is not as rigid as previous version which could shorten its lifespan.

I really wanted to love this bag, but unfortunately I don’t. Unless the pannier is completely full, the top hook doesn’t secure the bag closed and it flaps open while you ride. Really sucks when it’s raining and everything inside gets soaked.

The worst feature for me is the security hook that is supposed to help your bag attach more securely to the rack. The cord off the hook is extremely short so it’s impossible to attach it to the bottom of the rack where there is a natural v for other panniers to attach.

This leaves me attaching it to the side of the rack, which doesn’t do much for security as the hook rides up and down the side. Last week I rode with a fully loaded bag and one side of it popped off three times during a 30 minute ride because there is no tension from the security hook.

It’s a great looking bag, it’s unfortunate that the features are not thought through to make it a very functional bag as well.

We just moved to a great location with a nearby grocery store. Everyone in the family (12,14, and 2 parents) is able to pop over to the store to get groceries. The two Orchards are basically in constant rotation.

I generally take the bags inside with me and hook them on the sides of my cart. That way, I don’t over-buy. The volume of this bag is fantastic and yet it folds flat on the bike when empty. We packed it flat to go out to eat because I know that take-out boxes are inevitable with my family.

I was right. my next-day lunch was secured with the help of this simple pannier. I love the hook on the top. For less than full loads, I pull the hook through the loop and secure the bag to my rack. It gives me a nice sense of security.

When I ever have heel strike – I push the bag back on my rack a bit – it solves the problem for me. I noticed that the stiff board at the bottom can come out – I like that I can pull it out for cleaning and if I ever need a thicker board down there, I can just add it.

The pannier is a good size and the material appears durable. I look forward to the pannier delivering many years of good service. The package arrived like a flat pack. Getting it into a useful shape was relatively easy, though posed an initial challenge.

No instructions were included. So it was not immediately obvious how the included separate panels assembled into the rigid bags pictured. Perhaps the inclusion of an assembly diagram would help. After a few minutes, the way the stiff plastic panels fit in-place dawned on me.

Pushing the plastic panels into place requires a bit of effort, but once done, it all came together. Securing the panniers to the bicycle was quick. The attached clips make it easy to fit and are effective.

Accessing the pannier insides is via clips, not via zippers, my preferred method. I find the pannier size convenient. Each pannier nicely accepts a (non-over stuffed) supermaket grocery bag, perfect for my needs.

Well made but you have to re-engineer it. I f you cut 1 inch off of all of the length of the plastic inserts and trim 3/16 of an inch off of the width of al of the inserts and then re-radius the corners.

you wil get them to fit in the bag ok. The plastic inserts cut easily with a good pair of scissors. I use velcor strips to attach it to my rear rack plus I added a ‘spacer between the two bags to keep the bags from rubbing on the bike wheels.

I did this by using a 9 inch by 1 nch wooden dowel which I painted black and used stainless steel screws and washers to screw through the sides of the bag and into the end of the wooden dowel. It looks fine and it keeps the bags apart plus the bag can still be slide off easily enough once you undo the Velcro strips.

I just use the bags to get laundry up to the clubhouse to do the wash and To put a book and towel and drink cup in when I ride the bike to the poo here. They are big bags.

I read the reviews, some good, some bad before purchasing. Some folks complained that the plastic inserts had to be trimmed to install them. Not at all true. Moving the seam to an upright position allowed the inserts to slide right in.

I also read that sone folks had seams rip out and or buckles break. I have had no issues with this happening. I bought these bags for the price, have had them loaded every day since mounting them on my bike with no issues what so ever.

The only problem I encountered was my bike not fitting down the isle of the train with ease (not the fault of the bags). I mounted these on a mountin bike with rear floating suspension. Since I do not have a solid frame, I had to make a modification to my seat post mounted rack with 1/2″ PVC pipe so the bags would not get caught up in the wheel spokes.

This is what caused the extra width issue on the train. I had packed these bags with 3 days worth of clothes, shower stuff, and fishing tackle for a 68 mile ride to the Jersey Shore from my home in PA.

These bags worked flawlessly. Even when walking my bike across the Mathias Bridge constantly scuffing the right side bag against the bridge due to the narrow sidewalk, none of the seams tore out and the buckles are still in tact.

Since then I’ve been using my bike to run errands and food shop. Have loaded my bike on the train and the luggage compartment of a few busses with no issue. I am beyond satisfied with the performance of these pannier bags and recommend them to anyone looking for an inexpensive quality set of pannier bags.

I’m glad I chose this Velo Shopper. The flap is very convenient (no rolling the top down) and everything about the bag is very good quality. It was easy to install the correct size clip adjusters to fit my 12mm rear rack and now the bag solidly sits on the rack and doesn’t move until I take it off.

There’s lots of room inside for work commuting or a trip to the grocery store. I haven’t used it in the rain yet but I’m sure it’s full waterproof like Ortlieb claims. I highly recommend this sleek, stylish pannier for urban use.

This bag works great, and Ortlieb’s attachment system is truly the best you can get. The size is great for a commuter who brings a lot of stuff and while the bag shape is a little unstructured, it allows it to fit more items.

I’d give it 5 stars, but there have been times where I’ve stuffed this baby only to find that the top zip had come undone during the ride (nothing fell out though!) aaaand I wish it had a bottom that allowed it to stand up but for the price, size, color and functionality it can’t be beat.

Per the pictures on the website and on Ortlieb’s website, there should be one strap on either side of the bag opening. When it arrived, each strap connected on either end across the opening, so that if you were to wear the bag on your shoulder (as it’s designed for), the bag would stick out at a 90 degree angle from your side.

Must have been a manufacturing error, shame because otherwise the bag looked perfect.

This bag is super easy to use and much tidier looking than typical messy roll over panniers. The magnetic clasp makes it a snap to get in and out of. The only downside is it doesn’t collapse when empty, but it does stand up straight when set down on the ground.

Love this bag. Had the Classic Roller series before and prefer the stiff sides and magnetic closure of this one. Excellent purchase.

I LOVE this feedbag. It mounted to my drop bars so easily and stayed in place for a 3000 mile journey. I took this on a three month long Bike tour and filled it with countless snacks every morning and devoured the contents over the day.

It is so easy to operate one-handed and can hold so many goodies! I fit a large water bottle in the bag, a jar of peanut butter, take-out soup, you name it- and it will haul it! This bag is perfect.

The Revelate Designs Mountain Feedbag is exactly what I was looking for. I have an older mountain bike which only has one set of bosses for adding a water bottle. In my younger years I was fine with using a hydration pack but as I’ve gotten older I no longer enjoy that option especially on these 80+ degree Summer days.

There really isn’t anything fancy about this product it just simply works and works well. One thing I will note which I don’t think I have read in any of the other reviews is that it is also an excellent insulator for keeping your water cooler longer.

On my first ride using this I took two identical water bottles and put the same amount of ice in each. One bottle went into my bikes water bottle cage on the frame, the other into the Feedbag. Both where you’re typical standard size plastic cycling water bottles of the same brand and make.

After about an hour into my ride I stopped and took a break at a state park. I grabbed the water bottle off the bike frame and of course the water was already warm. Ok no surprise I really didn’t expect it to be cool.

Stop again one half hour later and pulled the other bottle from the Feedbag and found that there was still ice the bottle! So it was nice to be able to enjoy a nice cold drink of water.

This is a well constructed bike trunk. I’ve taken it on two trips with me so far. It is slightly smaller than I imagined; I wonder if the 16L includes the two optional side panniers that are neatly tucked away in the side zippers, which I haven’t taken advantage of yet, but could easily accommodate my jacket or other items.

Just don’t expect to use it for a decently sized grocery run. However, at the same time, it is larger than my rear rack for my bike so the velcro straps are kind of awkwardly held together to keep it sturdy on the rack.

Regardless, I like that the inside of the main compartment is insulated (and can be slightly expanded), which helped keep my water bottles cool during these hot summer days. I like this form factor better than side panniers and will be using it alot more during summer and fall.

Comes with a detachable shoulder strap so I can take it inside the store with me.

I bought these to commute to work. I need to be able to fit my lunch, computer (13in Mac book air) and some dress clothes. They are so small the don’t fit a Mac Book Air, let alone anything resembling a lunch or clothes.

I also hate how they attach tougher, makes them awkward to put on a bike. If they worth keeping I would have disliked this design, but I sent them back right away as they are too small to be functional.

Like the size and option to expand the volume of the main compartment. Description of the product could clarify that side pockets only serve to contain saddlebags extending downwards, which can interfere with real saddle bags and make these pockets somewhat useless in that context.

Bag is attached on to pannier through Velcro, so time will tells how long these last.

I decided to pay the extra for the Bikepacker plus rather than the usual roll-top Ortliebs and I’m glad I did. The front pocket is really useful for quick access to small items, if you want something to be more secure then put item in main stowage.

The interior has a slim pocket that takes an average laptop and has an additional mesh pocket for wallet or keys. The drawstring can be pulled extra tight if you know you are in for a soaking but the lid is waterproof on it’s own so even if you forget to do this / get caught out your items will stay dry.

I cycled through an absolute cloudburst and nothing got through the lid. The click release for the lid is simple and easy and makes it really quick to pull out a warmer jersey or a rain jacket. you can secure it back up and be back on the road within a couple of seconds.

The securing mechanism is very robust and reliable and you get a good “click” to confirm that the loop has been closed off. It comes with a variety of spacers so you can adjust it to fit snugly on your pannier rack to reduce any road rattle.

If you are in the habit of throwing your panniers into a river and use them as a flotation device then you will need to keep using the roll-top / drybag approach, but for travelling through deep puddles / potholes on the road then I’d pay the extra for the ease and convenience of the Bikepacker plus.

Ortliebs are widely regarded as the top of the line for bike panniers with good reason. They are so well designed that I figured out how to mount them on my bike in minutes with no instruction. They are roomy enough for grocery runs, lightweight without being flimsy and come in great colors.

They have double compartments with easy access. Not cheap, but you will never need to replace them. Youll be happy with Ortliebs!.

Well made bag. High quality. Keeps everything cool. Acts as great carrying case for other stuff too. Plenty of room.

This doesn’t just work on the bicycle but is an all-around excellent and spacious cooler under any circumstances. I brought it on a 5-day trip and took all the perishables I needed for that stretch of time.

Functional, good-looking, and smart design.

The inside liner is ripped so the insulation got wet. It smells so bad that I can’t even keep it in the house. Hopefully Aventon replaces it or returns my money

I got two of these bags to place them in a front rack for a Riverside 500 hybrid bike. I specifically asked if these would be compatible since the front rack is shorter and the placement of the clips might make them not fit, and I was told they are compatible.

They were right. to some extent. The bags can be clipped but the position isn’t ideal, as the bag is forced to be forward instead of in the middle of the rack side tube. The front clip will also need to be bent slightly into the curve of the rack, which might or might not impact it’s durability.

If your bike has a rear carrier, this bag mounts to it very easily. It’s big enough to hold 1 plastic shopping bag comfortably. If you have 2 bags, u’ll probably need another. Once mounted at the rear, one hardly feels the load as one cycles.

If u need to carry frozen items, order some frozen items from amazon first which comes in a free insulated bag and use that.

Fits well on the pannier. The clips/clips and the Velcro tapes together help to hold the bag firmly on the rack, even while cycling on gravel paths. It is possible to carry a laptop in this bag. But the base is not very firm and hence tends to sag at the bottom.

I found it safer to have it fitted on the side without the gears. The hooks are strong and I prefer to leave the bag on the bike while not in use.
