20 Best Bible Translation For Scholars (2023 Updated)

I’m a pretty new student of the Scriptures and I think Jay P. Green’s Interlinear Bible is one of the best Scripture study tools to have on hand if you’re new to the languages of Scripture. At the front of the book is a guide to the Greek & Hebrew alphabets It’s a non-threatening way to learn Hebrew & Greek and,coupled with the Strong’s Concordance, gain some valuable insight into what the Creator’s words really mean.

I do have a few complaints about this translation. It appears to not remain entirely loyal to what the Textus Receptus (what at this point I think is the oldest & most reliable Greek New Testament text available today) but instead adjusts portions of the Textus Receptus to make it fit with the more modern Greek New Testament texts in existence today.

Also the text is a bit small for my liking. I don’t recommend using this as the only translation you use, but it is definitely helpful in word study.

It’s a great help to find the true meaning of the Scriptures, for example we can know by reading Revelation 1:8 that Jesus is despicted as the almighty God and NOT Jehovah as written on Watchtower publications, meaning that Jesus is God in the Flesh, also by reading at John 1:1, we see that Jesus is God and NOT “a god” as some antichristian publications try to make us believe, also we come to know that Michael is one of many PRINCES or archangels, not “the” archangel: Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes.

Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. As we know Michael just said “The Lord rebuke you” instead Jesus always rebuke all demons as we know.

Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the devil. Mark 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. Mark 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

Luke 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. We learn by reading the Interlinear Bible that Jesus is the same God from the beginning.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Jesus is the creator: John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

And I believe that is teh WHOLE message from the scripture to accept Jesus as your Lord and God (John 20:28) 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.

He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. And Jesus is coming back soon, He’s the Alpha and Omega, who is going to come. Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Revelation 22:13, 15, 16, 20 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.

For anyone who wants to improve their relationship with their Creator or any of Creation, this is a must-have tool for sharpening your God-given talents, reason and intellect. Professionally bound. Since all three languages are presented simultaneously, the font is fairly small pitch.

But for those walking by faith not sight, this is easy to deal with. Highly recommended!.

Pro: This may be a good introduction to the Bible for children so long as they also have the KJV as a reference until their reading skills improve. Parents need to help them for sure. Con: This book left me dry.

I put it down after Genesis and purchased the KJV bible. I purchased the book at the start of my Christian Journey because the KJV was hard to read. After applying myself to study, the KJV became easy to read and does not dumb down the word of God as in the Book.

The Book is an easy to read version of The Holy Bible. I recommend it especially for people who find other versions hard to understand due to their languages.

If the language of the Old Testament gets a bit confusing, The Book is a wonderful alternative. It is accepted by most Christian Ministers and Pastors as an accurate alternative to The Bible. I study this one along with my NIV “The Message” Bible, and get a great understanding of the lessons this way.

I would definitely recommend this to all who need a “simpler” version of The Bible to read, or who want to study the different versions for wonderful lessons. This would be a great “Starter Bible” for young children and teens, as well as adults who just can’t grasp the language in the Testament.

A wonderful piece to add to anyones collection.

I received my book and it’s very interesting. It will give the reader a different take on the Bible that is just now going main stream with God’s name but there so many names that he is called by. no judgement read it and find your own term and what you think it means to you.

im reading a lot of books right now and finding things out that I didn’t know so , to each it’s own.

I like the old testament because the name of God, Yahweh, is used. The quality of the print is good, it’s not to small, about a size 8 font, I have to wear reading glasses for everything anyway, so I just pick a higher magnification and it’s very legible but obviously the publisher didn’t to make the print perfect, it’s maybe a copy of the text from a full size Jerusalem bible It has a sewn spine so it lays flat which is a big deal to me.

There is about an average amount of “bleed through” between pages.

It’s a reading copy. It’s better than reading the old KJV or NKJV. Although a reading copy of NIV would work fine, this book would be a better bet. For analysis you need to refer to the New Jerusalem Bible including the footnotes and references.

Really good looking Bible, nice that it has red letters. Bought it as have study bibles but wanted just the Word. Really pleased with the look of it. Already know the contents are the BEST!!

This is a must read for anyone interested in these ancient texts. The translator’s aim of bringing back to life the rhythms, the directness, the engagement of the writers with their readers has been gloriously achieved.

Such is the compelling nature of this translation that within a week I had read almost all of volume 3- ‘The writings’ (I had previously read Torah). This is literature. Further, mr Alter takes you on a journey into the heart of the texts and disabuses the reader of many misconceptions that have arisen because of imperfect translation.

And fascinating to learn that the King James translation, of all previously translations most accurately reflected the cadences of the Hebrew.

Alters Translation strikes the perfect balance between profound scholarship and a keen literary intelligence. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This translation of the Hebrew bible by Alter is fabulous. The commentary is particularly good and it is a great edition with which to compare KJV to.

This Bible is the New Living Translation version, BUT it’s put into chronological events based on how things happened. It’s ordered in a manner that’s almost totally correct, it’s really nice that when reading the series of events are shared with the Bible books, verses and more added BUT not interfering with the reading.

IN addition the separated sections of 365 days of reading often include 3 to 5 sections, which means a reader who doesn’t spend a long time at one time can still read the Bible with marking the sections and returning to those for more reading.

I also really like that the Bible is styled like other fiction books without sets of columns which make the print harder to see and read for me. And I like the little decorative topper on the pages.

One of the best at opening up the biblical text. You will learn so much in your daily studies. The older versions are hard to understand at times. This version uses our language and I highly recommend it as a minister for 20 years.

Keep it as a go to tool or as your primary bible. The Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Not many of us know these languages. So having several bible versions will enhance your understanding of the text.

Definitely get this version.

The NLT is a great translation of the Bible; it’s very easy to understand but is still accurate. It lets the story come through clearly since you don’t have to stop & try to figure out what things mean with old-fashioned words or awkward phrasing.

The chronological arrangement puts events in the order they happened, which makes the overall story flow better and make more sense. Good-sized text makes this Bible easy to read (it’s not giant, but not tiny like many).

The paper is also substantial enough that I can underline in it, in pencil, without it showing through to the other side very much (most Bible pages are quite thin). It is a little more difficult to look up specific passages (say, if you want to find Psalm 23) but there is an index in the back so you can find the page number for any book & chapter.

If you think you’ll be doing a lot of flipping back and forth to look up different books at the same time, instead of reading through the whole story from start to end, you might be better off with a non-chronological Bible.

This was a gift for a friend upon the occasion of their baptism. She loves it. It’s a translation that is easy to understand, it’s a lovely copy, and it was very affordable.

use daily. nice size text easy on eyes and i have found no verese left out like a lot of ppl say they do. very nice cover and color good price bought 2 one for me one for my 21 year old daughter

RIGHT out of the cover, upon first touch; the Leather feel was Soft and Pliable: NOT stiff and brittle like other imitation leather or ‘Pleather’. On that impression alone, I got the sense that this BIBLE was made with Love and Respect; as it should be.

The simplicity of the format is deeply appreciated. While there are times when I need or want study aids, I prefer to Read God’s WORD without being overwhelmed & distracted from the intrusive reference characters in the verses themselves; along with the distracting Center Column references, and Maggots, Charts, and Footnotes at the bottom.

Naturally the letters are smaller to accommodate the Size of the BIBLE. But not so small, that a magnifying glass is needed. Actually, they’re spaced quite nicely; and having a Bible of this size makes it less cumbersome.

It will fit in a Backpack or purse quite nicely. My Beloved is Very pleased with her New BIBLE, and I’m certain that she will get much more enjoyment when she enters into God’s Presence through the reading of His word.

You can rest assured that, while this BIBLE is inexpensive; You won’t regret purchasing it: whether for yourself, a friend, family member; or a gift to a fellow Saint who was just Baptized!.

This would make an AWESOME Gift, however, I bought this one for myself as the one I’ve had for years disappeared from my vehicle. Again – THANK YOU.

I may just be biased because it’s the first full Bible I’ve owned, but I love this Bible, I love flipping through the pages and being able to immerse myself in the divinely inspired word of God. I expected it to be hardcover leather, but it’s a bit floppy.

It’s not bad, I just can’t stand it upright like I thought I would be able to, but it’s perfect anyway. The gold pages are very subtly gold, so they look peach from the side. The paper is not too thin, and the print is small enough to amply fill the pages without being so small that it’s too much or hard to read.

The language is a bit more academic than I expected, but it was my fault for not researching the translation; it’s the Catholic equivalent to a KJV Protestant translation. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase! Would definitely recommend to a friend.

This bible has a nice, soft cover even though it is imitation. The design of our Lord Jesus and the four symbols of animals representing the four Gospels is beautiful. The pages are thin and crisp when you turn them.

The words are easy to read and the pages are a light yellowish off white, so it’s pleasant on the eyes. I’m proud to carry this bible to Church! You also get two book marks. The BIble is slim and not thick which is a plus to carry.

The translation itself is great. I prefer this to the New American Bible translation. And there are minimal footnotes of commentary. Most of the footnotes help to refer to other parts of the BIble where the quote could be better understood.

This is one of my favorite parts. Also, the translation is easy to understand. The Hebrew names have accent marks to help you pronounce them correctly. It also contains the apocrypha and 1 and the 2 Book of Macabees.

It has all of the books that the Catholic Church holds as Divinely inspired. I recommend this book for any Catholic and also Christians as well. (You might as well become Catholic too!) You won’t regret getting it.

I love this translation. At the beginning it describes who and how it was created. I spoke with one Gideon representative and he said they have had no complaints about this version. Even Proverbs comes alive.

This Bible is advertised as “Large Print” however the print does not appear to be any larger than a regular Bible. Even with my reading glasses the print seems small

Bought for a family member. Love the simplicity of the text and so easy to understand without losing any of the meaning. True to the ancient manuscripts regarding interpretation. Would recommend highly to those just coming into faith and looking for a version that’s both contemporary yet solid in translation.

I absolutely love The Voice Bible. It reads likeva story but not taking away from original scripture. I have had mine for several years now, which is leather bound. I bought this one for my daughter.

Only downside is I can’t find it in leather anymore.

I have been giving the Voice to people for sometime. Because of the quarantine, I was not able to get copies from my regular source. So I loaned my copy out and was using biblegateway as my copy when I noticed in the sidebar that I could purchase from you.

This is a beautiful bible. It is an amazing study bible it is indept and very informative. Excellent price point. I purchased it as a gift and now I want one for myself.

Having been a bible believing Christian for many years I thought it was time I had a larger print one to make reading easier. I was a bit reluctant to shell out this amount of money, but I’m so glad I did.

I am happy with everything about it. The print is really clear, the pages are of good quality paper hhe cover is a lovely soft leatherlike material and the thumb index is an extra bonus. Even though its quite big its comfortable to read in bed as it just drapes across your hand.

Bible is the New Living Translation which makes it easier to read and understand. Great for Bible study groups and your own personal use. I love the ease of understanding the Bible now that I am older and can read to my grandsons when they come.

I recommend this version of the Bible for easy reading but for memorizing God’s WORD I ALWAYS USE THE. KING JAMES VERSION. It’s just how I was raised and I wouldn’t have it any other way. God Bless you all!!!.

This is the Bible that I use the most. Nice size print and this edition is easy to understand. My granddaughter wanted one. I bought her the pink and other granddaughter the teal. The pink is flawed on cover with coloring of brown overlap giving the 4 star.

I would recommend this over any other bible that I own.

Absolutely love this Bible, bought it for my 11-year-old son for his first Bible. I purchased one similar to this and I really liked it but this one is even better. The words a good size to me they’re not big they’re just a nice size.

It has a lot of extra detail to it as well that makes it very handy.

This Bible was exactly what I was looking for. Large letters to read easily, but being a slimline Bible, not a huge study type Bible. The cover seems durable enough for not being leather, and the translation is a good one (NLT/New Living Translation) from where original Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) into the English language.

Much easier to understand, which is what I wanted because this is a present to a young teenager that wants to read the Bible.
