Best Bed For Older Dogs (2023 Updated)

We have bought every bed in the past 7 years from here for our large German Shepard. She loves her bed. The other human tried to get her a diffrent bed and she was not happy. Favorite covers since she sheds like crazy are the Balistic and the denims.

The canvas was good but the hair did not let go quite as easy. All three covers keep her cool and look amazing!!.

Perfect size for our 95 pound Golden Retriever. The outer fabric is denim and very durable and washable. Inner waterproof liner protects memory foam. Our dog is very rough on her beds. she likes to pick up and shake and toss her beds around.

This bed is heavy and not easily tossed. I think it will last her a long time. Very pleased with the purchase. It arrives in a small package because the memory foam expands upon opening.

These beds are not great, they’re AMAZING. They are literally the best purchase you can make as far as a dog’s bed. Unless your dog just destroys their beds, these are perfect. You can wash them whenever you want, they’re comfortable, my dogs absolutely love them.

I have two black labs and a white German Shepherd, So I have all kinds of hair everywhere. And these beds catch a lot of that hair. It’s awesome that I can go outside, shake them out, and then throw them in the washer and they’re done.

Over the years I’ve bought a lot of beds for my dogs, a lot of them tend to wear out over time, my younger black lab likes to chew on them and tear them up. But he does not do that with these beds for whatever reason.

So after all the 30 and 40 and $50 beds I’ve bought over the years, don’t hold a candle to the paw. com beds. They’re pretty much a one-time purchase and I’ve had my first one for over 3 years now, I just bought my second one this last November, 2021.

And now I have one for the living room and one for the bedroom, and next year I’m going to get another one for upstairs. And the dogs will have plenty of places to lay, aside from the couches ;-).

This is the absolute, hands down best pet bed ever!! We have tried other beds and our dog would not even go on it. She loves this bed, and we put the blanket on the floor in our room because we have new carpet and she stays on their all night.

We cannot even coerce up on the bed anymore. They are beautiful, look great in our home and are super soft and comfortable. I have not washed them yet but I have no doubt they come out like new. I would suggest purchasing the giant size for labs.

Our yellow lab is 75 lbs and we tried the large but it just wasn’t quite big enough. The thickness is perfect, probably 3 or 4”. Anything thicker and our dog doesn’t like it. Also love the white color, it has twinges of brown at the end of the fur and the bottom of the blanket is a beautiful dark brown.

Goes very well with our home decor. And arrived very quickly, in just a couple days.

I purchased the small pup rug curve specifically for the dimensions I needed in a small tricky space. Su pup insists on being in the kitchen and when she’s not actively playing Su Chef she needs a place to land comfortably.

I have a tight space where she’d but out from under foot nudged in between a bistro table/dishwasher/her dog bowls station and I wanted something stylish and that I could walk over to get through to access the entire area around there so this was perfect.

It was an instant hit – when I unboxed the cover and laid it out to test it for the right fit for the space Su laid on it for some serious snuggles immediately. We’re beyond happy it’s PERFECT. If I were buying a dog bed that she would use for longer periods of time other than when I was just in the kitchen and she wanted to be there too, I would get the extra thick version – this version is perfect as a pup ‘rug’ – comfy for pups and easy to walk over and not interrupt the flow of your space.

So thrilled!.

We purchased 2 of these great beds! They’re narrow and long, which makes them fit perfectly in between and next to the human couches! The covers come off for easy laundering too! Our dogs give these beds 110% approvval rating!.

I bought this bed for my older Golden Retriever to sleep on since she is having some issues with arthritis. When it arrived it was vacuum packed into a plastic bag so I opened it and immediately noticed it smelled bad.

I took the cover off and washed it and let the foam mattress lay out in fresh air for a couple of days but the smell didn’t go away. The cover came out clean after washed but the foam smells terrible, as if it was sitting in a moldy basement, and my animals (cats nor dogs) won’t go near it.

After sitting out in the air for a week I sprayed the foam with febreeze and glade to help with the smell, and it did a bit, but I am disappointed that it came this way in the first place. The bed would be nice if it didn’t smell, it’s thick with a two layers attached together and I am sure would be comfortable to sleep on.

The cover is really thin and I’m sure won’t last long but that’s easy to replace. If it didn’t smell so bad I would have given it more stars.

My labrador loves these. The outside covers are washable. I have hung the covers to dry and they dry fast since microfiber does. I have also hosed down the foam. That takes longer to dry in the shade since most foams don’t like direct sunlight.

But it works. Eventually she digs a hole in the cover so I flip the foam inside and used the bottom on the top. They fit perfectly under the table or in her extra large crate. I haven’t closed the door in 3 years, but she still likes her space.

This bed seems to be well made. The back of the cover with the non-skid dots is not a heavy duty material. It is very thin. The top is fluffy and white and seems to be like a fur type material. The zipper is easy to zip and plastic.

The side material seems an average thickness. The bed is supposed to be 4 inches thick. It is not 4 inches. We have waited for it to expand and it has been hours, but it only measures 3 inches with the expanded foam inside.

Overall, I would say this is not a bad bed, but not the exceptional one either. I was hoping it would be more firm and thicker, but it will due for now. If you have chewers, would definitely not recommend.

The cover is too thin, and then the foam would be exposed for the dogs to tear apart easily. Luckily our dogs are not chewers. Hoping it won’t squish down after being used by 2 pugs that are 20lbs each.

We will see.

Ok so I have 3 great Danes. I thought they would love these. I bought 4 of them. no. they won’t go near them. so why do I give them 5 stars. I use them for exercise mats! They are great! Also. my husband thought our mattress was too soft.

I used a couple on his side under the foam mattress pad we have on the bed. They work great! Happy husband. Maybe not the conventional use for them but they work for me ! They are not hard but just firm.

They still have cushion but also good support. So they work great as an exercise mat.

This was not a good purchase for me. After using the bed 3 weeks I finally discovered my dog is allergic to something in this bed. Im not sure if there is some sort of chemical in the foam. But he has been scratching & pulling hair out for as long as I put the bed down for him.

After a $140 vet visit, I realized when this started and it was about the time we put the bed down for him. Weve removed the bed from our home and the itching and pulling hair out has stopped. All though the price was right, the choice for us was not the right one.

Im sure not every dog has this reaction, but certain chemicals have different affects on different dogs. Just be aware what the foam has been treated with.

Great bed! Comfortable, Very Stylish, numerous color options and my favorite; the unique curve design (reminds me of an actual fur rug! My pups love it! While the cover material is sleek and soft it is however my only issue as well; be wary if your pet tends to drag food or treats in the bed often as deep seeded crumbs become very difficult to remove/clean as they get tangled deep in the material.

Have to go to extra effort to make sure the dogs eat their treats before going to lay in the bed. I really do hope when the time comes that it needs replaced, I’m able to just reorder the cover by itself so I don’t have to repurchase a whole bed….

Ss a recommendation to the company might be better to have another option for the cover material than just the fur style. Say fleece or something like that. Great overall bed though!!!.

Our dogs are all very little but we bought the biggest dog bed / dog rug for sharing. As you can see in the photo Cricket has decided it is just the right size for HER alone!! Although everyone loves it, Cricket particularly enjoys hiding treats in the lush fur and it is great for bedtime.

We purchased a faux fur blanket some time ago and it was so beautiful and luxurious and loved by our puppy. The rug just seemed like such a perfect addition to their room. We have some really cute photos but unable to add – your rules were too much for us to manage.

I ordered 2 of these beds for my pups Xmas gifts. I have an older lady- 12 years old this year and she needed a TRUE memory foam bed. My other pup is 2 but large for his breed and needed something easy on the joints.

I love these beds. the cover is removable/washable and my girl already had an accident on her and I was SUPER surprised and happy that when I unzipped the cover, I noticed the foam mattress was already lined with plastic! The reason for the low rating is because when I unzipped it, I also noticed a tear in the foam.

Im not sure if this will effect the integrity in the long run or not but she is already attached to the mattress so returning it is just not an option.

While I cannot say that I personally used the product, my 70 pound Siberian Husky seems to appreciate the new bed. I put it on top of a frame so that he is off the floor by about 3 inches by a metal frame that reminds me of a flattened out sand chair.

The egg crate material has puffed up nicely as the packaging it came in was very deceptive. But it says it in the package instructions that it takes about 4 hours to puff up from its decompressed packaging, saves space in shipping and therefore money.

The brown velvety cover is nice and has a zipper for easy removal to clean. As Dakota is an old man, 12 years Saturday, he needs a little bit more comfort when resting and I had no problem picking this out for him.

He’s fussy, so it took a few days before he made up his mind but definitely last night was the night for him to try it out. He settled onto it and then never moved off of it maintaining his king of the castle attitude.

It’s a great product; has a good price and the quality is quite nice. Definitely could recommend this to other animal lovers!.

My dog loves it! Pretty soft pink color! Nice and cozy–my Australian Shepherd hopped right in and loves it. I washed the cover before use–easy to remove the inner stuffing and no issues at all with washing the fabric (no shrinkage or texture/color change).

We have a 50 lb grandpuppy that I didn’t want on my furniture. I ordered a large which gives him room to grow. He loves it!! Doesn’t even consider the furniture. It’s beautiful. Well made. I’m beyond happy.

After having this for 3 months, the pillow is super uncomfortable and my dog hates it. It bunches and is uneven in its filling. Waste of 200 dollars and past its return window.

When I first unwrapped this bed I thought, “what did I buy?!” It was tiny, flat, crumpled and had a GIANT ridge down the middle. I almost repackaged it that evening to send back, but it was late and I decided to just head to bed.

Much to my shock the next morning, the bed had unfurled to 5 glorious inches of foam. It reminded me of those toys from the 5 and dime as a kid that needed warm water and then expanded to 10x their size.

Both dogs (I bought 2 beds) LOVE their new beds. I can tell they approve because any time I can’t find them on the couch, they are snuggled up on these beds. I bought the medium size which is a pretty close fit for their crates (42” size).

They are just slightly too wide, but they squish just a bit and it’s fine. The one thing I don’t like about their new beds is the zipper only goes across one long side and a couple inches down the short side.

Trying to wrangle a 5” piece of foam into a tiny zipper slot should be an Olympic sport. To save me from having to wrestle the beds in and out of the covers too frequently I bought a couple of standard sized crib sheets and put those over the top of the bed.

Problem solved!.

Well received the dog new bed. I have purchased several beds for multi dogs so I was not over excited about this one. Mostly soft mushy egg crate, but better than nothing. This was a whole new thing.

Right out of the box I loved it. It was not thicker than others ,3 or 4″, but the density was GREAT. My 75lb shepherd was not laying on the flood w/very little between her and the deck. Sorry to go on but this is w/o question the BEST real orthopedic BED I’ve ever purchased.

I ordered 3 different beds to replace my dog’s old ragged beds, and this one is by far her favorite. It is not as firm as I originally thought/hoped it would be, but she definitely prefers it to the firmer (memory foam) orthopedic beds I got her.

She has old hips, and has been through two knee surgeries, so her comfort is my first priority. The bed has a nice thickness, but is still “squishy” enough to feel soft and comfy to her. Although it has some give, she does not sink all the way to the floor, which was also important to me.

The cover comes off easily, and I expect it will be easy to wash. Another nice feature is that it has one furry side and one cotton-blend fabric side. So in the winter, when it is cold I will flip it to the furry side, but for now she (in her double coat) is enjoying the cool fabric side.

It’s a great purchase, which I would happily recommend to anyone – I might even get her two more to replace the others she doesn’t like as much!.

This is definitely not worth $170! Its nothing more than a cushion on top of a thin, cheaply made platform. Essentially comparable to a dog bed cushion that sells for $40, except it’s raised a few inches off the ground.

If your looking for a nice, quality bed for your dog- this is not it. Also, took over a month to receive.

Great quality and super soft. Problem was, my GSD can get destructive sometimes and tore the cover just a bit. Filed a warranty claim with FurHaven that came with our order, replacement cover came about 3 weeks later.

Fitted on this model of bed (3-sided head rest) and the cover was wrong (2-sided head rest)! Upon filing a claim with FurHaven, I had to show a picture and proof to them that the cover was torn. I DID show them the 3-sided head rest bed and I don’t know how they could’ve given me the wrong cover! Now I have the bed fitted with NO head rest, of course along with the torn cover that I didn’t plan on keeping but might as well because it fits the head rest part.

TLDR: FurHaven sent WRONG replacement cover, kept the old cover because what am I to do with this extra piece of bedding? CHEWY is NOT in the wrong.

I purchased this from for my retired Guide Dog whom tore her ACL at age 2 & is now very arthritic. The bed is nice but not as comforting as I had hoped & the mattress portion doesn’t have any waterproof protection in case of accidents.

I needed to make these changes to make it as comfortable for my 59 pd lab as possible: 1. Added Memory Foam: I purchased a 1. 25” twin topper & cut the 1st piece the length of the bed bottom. The remainder fit perfectly in the center.

This added 2. 5” on the mattress center & 1. 25” underneath the holsters making it much easier to zip the cover closed. 2. Added Waterproof Cover Over Foam Pieces: I also purchased a twin protective cover as none was provided with the bed just in case of an accident with my older dog.

The twin size fit perfectly over the bottom foam pieces & the excess folded neatly to the underneath side making the zipper easy to close. I’m sure many wouldn’t have bothered making adaptations to this dog fed; however, my 13 year old retired Guide Dog is more than worth it & deserves the best I can give her.

Other than having to add the memory foam & waterproof protection, this bed is well made & most likely suitable for an animal without an injury.

I was so happy to find this item. The description states “Recommended for pets 65 to 110 lbs” but I wanted a dog bed with more body so I purchased this for my two dogs to share – one weighing 45 one weighing 55 pounds.

They both take turns using it. I have a few beds at different places on the floor, and was looking for one that was waterproof. This wonderful item is thick, but comfortable enough for my senior dogs, and has a nice cover which unzips on TWO sides making removal and putting back on so easy.

(If you have struggled with those pads that require stuffing in the inner pad you know what I mean. ) The outer cover washes nicely (I zip it almost completely closed and wash on gentle, being careful not to catch any loose threads into the zipper.

) There is a separate inner cover made of a plastic type material which also zips on, but you probably would not be taking that off as you could wipe it clean if needed. Inside that cover is the high quality foam pad.

Very pleased and so are my pupkin!.

I purchased two of these for my Frenchies. The beds are comfortable and the foam is solid. My older dog loved hers, and I did too when I cuddled with her on it. My problem came with the flimsy material used for the cover.

My two younger dogs had the cover and liner torn up in less than eight hours! Even with a throw blanket wrapped around it. Luckily they didn’t get the foam, so I may be able to salvage the bed if I can find a more durable cover and liner.

This is ending up being a very expensive bed! Would not recommend for younger, active dogs.

My dog is very large. and very picky. I needed a new bed for her and this looked like a good size and comfortable; both are true. The minute I put it down; she laid on it. Of course, you’re actually supposed to let it sit 24 hours to fluff but since she liked it immediately there wasn’t much I could do! It also looks very nice in the room.

The bottom has a coating which helps it not to slide and ensures things don’t soak through to the rug. Very pleased.

Our Dog, Daisy, LOVES her Snoozer Cozy Cave Pet Bed. and so do we!! Before Daisy had her bed, she was constantly laying on our furniture and on us. At her bedtime, she would whine and pace until someone layed out her blankets, which we figured was because the leather couch was too cold.

Santa brought Daisy a Snoozer Cozy Cave Pet Bed and we’re ALL happy and thankful! Since Daisy got her new bed, we hardly ever see her, unless it’s mealtime! We were afraid she wouldn’t like it or wouldn’t be able to get in it, but boy were we wrong! After we showed her how to get in it a couple of times, she was able to get in and out without any issues.

She spends most of the time in her Cozy Cave, in front of the glass door where the sunlight shines in or playing with our family. She never lays on the furniture or on us, anymore. The parts I think she loves the most are the cushiony bed, never having to wait for us to lay her blankets down before a nap or bedtime, the built-in blanket that’s created by the canopy and being able to scoot into the back, where it’s dark and warm.

Slightly to my surprise the new dog, an 18 week old Jack Russell took to the bed very quickly and seems to like it. So the main aim has been achieved. It’s too early to be able to comment on durability but it seems well made and easy to clean.

I have three mild concerns that may prove unfounded. The bed is very lightweight so it doesn’t feel very stable. It’s on top of another bed at present which feels as though it supports the bed better than a hard floor would.

Part of the roof is not lined so feels a bit more flexible and I wonder if the bed could tip if the dog slipped off the cushion and ended up being supported by this bit of the “roof”. It hasn’t happened but feels like it might.

Finally, the stiff arched edge to the roof means that it can fold backwards. I think that could cured by a small triangle of stretchy material either side of the arch so that the arch always leans forward.

When it folds backwards there is no “Cozy Cave”! But as I said, the dog likes her bed so what do I know?.

I looked forward to getting this bed for Brody, a nice cave bed. It arrived quickly considering the holidays, but I noticed the package was bulging. One side was well taped, and the bulging side was taped with strong cellophane tape.

It was hard to open, and out popped the innards of the box. Long story made short, the bed was so stuffed, the dog rolled off the bed. I destuffed a 33 gallon trash bag worth of stuffing and finally he was able to get on it.

He’s now laying on his old flat bed with his blanket covering him. The box that it came in was torn, trying to get the bed out, so now I don’t even have the box to return it. The bed never looked like the picture I thought I was buying.

No amount of high quality treats enticed him to stay in the bed. If you have a large dog, save yourself the headache.

I bought this memory foam dog bed as a comfortable supportive cushion for me to sit on (I’m disabled and the more specialised items are frequently much more expensive, smaller in size and have harder covers).

This dog bed/cushion is perfect for my needs. It arrived rolled and I wondered if it would re-form itself fully (there’s a Use and Care instructions leaflet included that says it can take up to 24 hours to reform).

Within minutes it was reformed and ready to be used. The cover is soft and comfortable and the deep memory foam inner is very supportive. Being a dog owner, too, I know this product would be perfect for a small, older dog that needed a deeper more supportive bed to lay on.

With the removable cover it’s perfect for removing to wash off any dirty paw marks.

Bought this bed after reading many reviews. My 70 lb Golden Retirever/Lab cross has been using it for the last two months. She likes it a LOT better than the large, round beds you get at Pet Stores, or Costco.

Whereas she used to sleep on the sides of these beds as the stuffing seemed to move to the outer areas of the bed, leaving her, literally, on the floor in the middle of the bed. That won’t do for an active, agility sports-pooch.

Have to protect those bones & joints! The size of the bed is perfect for her. It provides the support she needs and she can lay any which way she wants without being in contact with a hardwood floor.

The Memory Foam provides the comfort while the foam pad underneath provides support. I like it too knowing she’s resting far more comfortably. Two paws up from Miss Sadie!.

This is an excellent bed for our older dog who has some hip stiffness. its well made, nice and thick and he LOVES it. I also notice that he doesn’t limp in the morning anymore. This is well worth the cost.

Your dog will love it!.

This is my second recent purchase of a dog bed by PetMaker, and I’ve ordered a third. The orthopedic foam is firm and dense enough to provide excellent support at a reasonable mid-range price. If your dog prefers to nestle into a fluffy bed, this is not the bed for that.

If you’re expecting memory foam that allows the dog’s body to sink into the foam and conforms around the dog’s body, this is not the bed for that. This is an orthopedic foam bed that will support the dog’s weight and provide cushioning and comfort on a hard floor or crate.

Dogs with mobility issues may have an easier time getting on and off this type of bed because they won’t sink into it and struggle to get out. The foam does need a few days to fully decompress and reach three inches in height.

The cover has an almost velvety finish, and the fabric is on the thinner side. So if your dog tends to maul the bed, you may want to look elsewhere for a tougher fabric (or train your dog not to maul the bed).

Based on my initial impression, this dog bed seems to be of good quality and should last a good while.

The orthopedic dog bed Large size was perfect for my bulldog. She is six years old and has started having issues with arthritis in her back leg. She loves the memory foam bed and her limp has noticeably gotten less severe.

I recommend the bed for anyone trying to help their dogs sleep better with support to their joints.

I purchased the Premium Fleece Dog Bed Set, Medium, Rectangular as well as the Replacement Cover in Denim. I have a 12 lb. Chihuahua/Fox Terrier that is about the size of an average Jack Russell or Beagle and she loves, loves, loves her bed.

The padding is well made and has a little bit of a groove all around with a little bit of a bump in the center. So it is not completely flat, which I have learned from observing our furry pet that it serves a purpose.

She likes to rest within the groove for security. On other days she likes to rest her head and chest on the bump in the center which elevates her a little bit. Our dog used have a cheap bed that became too soft and did not hold up well once it got old.

Especially when she laid against the side walls. It had a tendency to flatten out. Plus, it had a plush-life fabric that was too warm in the summertime, and she would hang partially off the bed onto the hardwood floor which is cooler.

So, comfort, temperature, structure, and durability were factors taken into consideration in searching for a new bed. I had read reviews about the padding falling apart in the washer or tearing from digging.

I have not had to wash the pad because I have covered the bed and denim cover with a crib-size bed pad and a fitted bedsheet for added protection; and because our pooch has always enjoyed the feel and texture of a bedsheet.

She just got used to looking for cooling spots on her beds after we tried keeping her cool on other retailer beds that had either foam or cheap fill which caused her become too warm. But she does love her Sherpa adult throw.

Not familiar with L. L. Bean pet products, I decided to purchase the bed set that came with the fleece cover and also ordered the replacement cover in denim which is a soft denim. It is not stiff or rough as in jean denim.

I was concerned the fleece cover might be too warm, and I wanted to have the option to change from a warmer cover to a cooler one being that it was summertime when my order arrived, so that was the reason in my purchasing the denim replacement cover as well.

When my order arrived, I placed the denim cover on the pad and it has held up really well. It doesn’t show dirt and our pooch likes it. I was afraid it would rip when she sniffed the bed and began digging but that has not been the case.

So it has stood pretty well to that. I have not replaced the denim cover with the fleece cover yet, but weather is starting to change and getting cooler. I will probably change from the denim liner to the Sherpa liner soon.

I also want to add that I ordered a medium size bed which is a little bigger than what is recommended for a dog her weight/size because she likes to spread out. That was also one reason why I chose a bed that is not enclosed or has side walls.

If it’s any help to anyone reading this review, the medium bed is about four inches short the length of a baby crib mattress. It’s the best bed I have bought. I haven’t seen anything else at other stores that meet the same quality of L.

L. Bean products, and I highly recommend this bed.

There’s not much I can do for my 11-year-old, 100-lb black Lab mix; arthritis can’t be cured, and eventually the pain meds won’t keep him going. I’m not made of money, either, but I knew that once he’s gone, my only regrets will be the things I didn’t do.

This is the most comfortable dog bed I’ve had in 50 years of loving dogs. I had Foster & Smith dogs beds that lasted for 20 years; these are even more comfortable (I laid down in them myself, and I would sleep on one if they made them in human sixes!) I ended up getting 2 extra large beds so he could have one in each of his favorite places, then another large size one for my younger dog, but the large is also just big enough for the big guy and he sleeps on that one, too.

It breaks my heart to know he won’t be with me much longer, but I know these beds will go on to comfort other dogs, because they are so well made. Like I said — I’m not rich, just a retired mailman.

Best money I ever spent.

Very nicely tailored ! Cushion edges have neatly sewn cording and straight sides. Denim fabric is sturdy and I like the color “burlap” which is as pictured online on my laptop. The zipper was a concern I had with my 4 1/2 month old “ chews everything” goldendoodle.

The zipper is completely concealed and it extends about 7 inches around each corner. There is a special sewn in placket to hide the zipper pull. She has not tampered with the zipper and hasn’t chewed any part of the cushion!! She sleeps on it under the desk in our kitchen.

Perfect size for that spot and she’ll soon grow to this cushion size (medium). I wish I had her name monogrammed on it but I was so excited about this new pup, I wanted her to have the bed as soon as possible! I think this was was well worth the money! I highly recommend this dog cushion.
