20 Best Asics Running Shoe For Flat Feet (2023 Updated)

I’ve been a long time runner and competitor. I bought these a week ago after using Kayano shoes for years and other brands. I have been on a few runs as a regular runner to assess them and it’s disappointing that they don’t seem as good as they used to be.

They appear as a harsh and uncomfortable shoe. Pro’s: They feel light. My size 11 shoe weights in at 320g ea. The elastic in the Upper construction is excellent that it hugs your foot like a sock and it seems quite breathable.

I like to run my shoes quite snug, so they seem true to size, if slightly narrow in the toe box. Colours a pretty neat. Cons: They’re very rigid in the sole. They’ll become more pliable with use, but currently they create quite a bit of pressure on Toe off.

The Upper and the tongue is very thin. It saves on weight but you feel the laces of you like to cinch your shoes up tight. Cushioning throughout the sole, whilst thick, is not as comfortable as they used to be in years gone by.

Much less Gel in the Heel and midfoot areas, instead relying on high density foams which seem harder and less forgiving. It cuts down weight in sacrifice of impact absorption and you feel it if running on the road if you have poor technique.

Heel cut is just a bit too low to grab the back of the foot securely. This seems to be an Asics thing now, as my last two pairs of Kayanos do the same thing and the Heel foam blows out from rubbing on the heel rather than locking the shoe in place.

For the price of a flagship shoe, they just don’t tick enough boxes in the comfort department anymore to be value for money.

I have worn Asics Gel Nimbus for many years as my go to walking/athletic shoe. It was a lifesaver for me when I had plantar fasciitis in 2012. I have tried to get a new pair the last few years and the last few iterations just did not work for me.

The cushion had changed and toe box seemed shorter and overall the shoe more narrow. One of my feet measures as a B width and the other a C width so I have been looking at a women’s D shoe. I have had to go up another 1/2 size as the shoes seems to be cut shorter than the older styles.

I bought this pair of Nimbus and chose the mens shoe regular width as it just felt a little better than the women’s D width. What I like: The cushion and arch support even though I think the gel feel is far less than say 3 versions ago.

What I don’t like: The way the tongue is sewn in. Not nearly as soft and comfortable as the loose tongue. I preferred the split cushion where the achilles tendon comes down to the heal. Much more comfortable.

The shoe still feels a bit snug and considering trying the men’s wide to see if the toe box is more comfortable and wish the toe box was a bit taller. I spent a long time at the shoe store trying different brands.

I still think my nimbus gel 18 had the best all round shoe cushion for comfort on the upper as well as the sole. I just get the feeling the shoe has been scaled back or cheapened compared to former versions.

Looking at several other brands but in the end the arch support in this shoe really fits mine the best. Sad to pay 150 + for a shoe and feel like I am making do.

As the title states, this is the best and most significant update to the Nimbus line up. It is probably also the best year to year update I’ve seen across many brands. The drop in weight from the Nimbus 23 is significant (35g I believe) and definitely felt as the shoe feels far more balanced, promoting heel strikes to land on their midfoot.

Two standout updates are the inclusion of the new FFBlast+ midsole which adds so much comfort to the ride, and the updated upper where the tongue is now a thin but padded and stretchy tongue. Its a small aspect of the shoe but it looks sleek, and performs its duty far better than the padded and chunky tongues which were more prone to sliding left to right in the older models.

The Nimbus 24 is overall very versatile in that neutral runners like myself can wear them, but they also provide support for pronators and people who need correction in their step. Its especially useful for neutral runners recovering from injuries.

With the reduced weight and sleeker profile, the shoe is also more capable of quicker and longer runs, and absolutely a great experience for everyday running. A worthy addition to my rotation.

I’m 170lb, 10 to 11 min/mile runner going through marathon training. For my long runs over 18 miles, I’ve tried Nike Invincible Run and Skechers GoRun Maxroad 5, both of which featured widely publicized super foam midsoles, but just didn’t work out due to issues such as blisters, fit, or ride quality.

Nimbus 24 so far proven to have just as good in terms of cushioning, but with superior upper and ride. I’m free of the same problems with those previous shoes. Nimbus 24 has bouncy Blast Plus midsoles, has the right amount of flexibility in the forefoot, while being very consistent in cushioning and ride.

The semi-exposed Trussitc bar provided just the right amount of stability through my gait cycles. The well shaped and padded heel counters provides great comfort. I’m not sold on the stretchy tongue, as I found myself needing to pull it form time to time to maintain the same comfort.

But still, the upper is supremely comfortable, and all of those quality have convinced me to donate the Nike and the Skechers. I highly recommend Nimbus 24. I don’t really have wide feet but have read other reviews about narrower fit, and Wide turned out to be the right choice.

I did a lot of research before buying my Nimbus 23 shoes, with runners at the local harriers and online. I’ve always had problems getting shoes to fit my wide feet and not many shops supply half sizes.

Also I’ve got a lot of miles on the clock and feel it on my knees, shins and feet when sprinting. So I wanted good fit and good shock absorption- research done I chose the N23s. The web site is straight forward and pretty informative in helping you choose the right shoes and set up.

Delivery (from Germany) was fine. Upon opening the box I spotted the size and it was not what I ordered! I tried them on as I thought it was only a size out I might get lucky? Since trying them on I’ve done about 60 miles running and sprinting in them and I totally love them.

No more sore knees/ feet. No blisters or chafing during breaking in period! In fact there was no breaking in period. Turns out I ordered in UK size and of course the shoes arrived in Eu measurement written on the shoes.

I knew what is assumed to be the equivalent and thought they were wrong. Reading some info regards Eu/Uk sizes, turns out they are not directly comparable. Asics had worked out from the info I gave them (wide feet etc) and got it spot on.

Maybe only people who really struggle to get correctly fitting shoes will appreciate what it means to get a 100% fit. It’s actually very painful putting up with something that’s just quite close.

First ASICS I’ve had after many years of Saucony, Brooks and recently HOKAs. Reminded me of why I loved my GT’s back in the late 80’s. Have been wearing Arahi mixed with one pair of Gaviota, both were 2E width.

The D width of the Kayano27 is good but obviously not as roomy as the HOKAs at 2E. Heel collar felt strange at first but OK now. Higher weight vs. Arahi is negligible and flexibility and energy return of Kayano is noticeably better.

I like that there’s a bit more rubber on the Kayano vs. the HOKA’s. Haven’t run on wet pavement yet but expect these to perform better. Overall very pleased and, at the outlet price these were unbeatable!.

I began running in the 1970s with a pair of leather Adidas Countries then moved on to Brooks and the Brooks Vantage which was my favorite. I went through some Sauconys, Nikes, New Balance and many others and most were good shoes.

I started wearing Kayanos sometime in the 90s until I decided to try Hokas about 7 years ago and that same year injured my knee and was told the cartilage was totaled destroyed and would not be able to run again.

I stayed totally away from walking/running for a few years then started back on my treadmill with fast walking. I decided to try Kayanos again a few weeks ago after wearing both Bondis and Gaviotis for a few years.

I decided to try ASICS again after recurring pain on the inside of my right knee. What a difference! The first couple of days they felt a little tight and flat. Now they feel like heaven. like that first modern running shoe from Brooks back in the 70s.

Fits like a glove, supportive in all the right places, and makes me feel like I’m a runner again. My steps flow and I put in 28 miles on my treadmill last week (I’m 67)and don’t feel the least bit sore or achy.

I am totally back to ASICS. Think I only wandered because they were so good the started to seem boring. won’t make that mistake again.

Having always enjoyed the GEL-Kayano line of products from ASICS, I presumed that the same form, fit function would apply. Not so! There are two notable changes to the shoe over the past few years, (perhaps the manufacturer is attempting to cut costs, while raising the prices).

First, the shoe string length has gone from 57 inches to 51 inches (comparing the GEL Kayano 24 to the 27) which equates to barely enough to tie the shoe once, good luck on a second tie for security.

If you can get a second tie, the shoe laces are so tight that the top of the foot becomes sore. Second, the stich pattern has change on the top of the shoe, specifically the lace holes, the width between the laces is narrower and tighter, so the fit is inconsistent when compared to previous versions of the same shoe.

They’re going back. maybe ASICS will get the feedback from RRS.

I have been wearing The ASICS Nimbus since the model 6. So I have seen lots of changes over the years. This model the 24 is lighter than 23 and quite cushioned. I was very pleased wearing the show in the Houston Half Marathon.

I was concerned at first of the new tongue of the shoe under laces causing pressure on top of foot but didn’t have any issues. The material actually gives. Very satisfied with the 24. True to size and width.

Love the heel as I have narrow Achilles’ tendons and it provides cushion and support.

I have been wearing the gel nimbus since version 14 but over the years the profile of the shoe became more narrow and less padded. My last version was the 19 but the 24 is a game changer!! I tested the Pegasus 38 but the gel nimbus by far holds my foot better especially around the heels( no slipping) and the sole profile change in the 24 definitely helps with correct midfoot strike when I’m running on a treadmill.

I purchased a 9 in this shoe, and usually wear an 8. 5-9 for running shoes. I highly recommend this version for die hard gel nimbus fans!.

Guess I’ll have to search for another brand? Back to Road Runner for advise. The 24, nice padding but my arches started to hurt after 15 minutes. And the soles are sticky, noisy. The 23 my hips hurt after 20 minutes.

The 22, well, rather a bit heavier, I had no other problems. Nice colors, tongue is thin with less padding, shoes are comfortable for me the first 15 minutes, except for the noisy soles.

Took a little getting used to. I have taken a slight departure from Asics over the past few years due to chronic back issues which has prompted the search for a support shoe with the right amount of cushioning.

Most either have too much or not enough. My former Asics go-to was the gt-2000, but as age would have it, I need just a little bit more “umph” under foot these days. The 28’s have it. They are extremely comfortable and provide enough stability to not be overbearing.

I am pretty picky when it comes to running shoes and these have performed admirably since getting my footing in them.

I have been wearing Asics Kayano’s off and on again for the past 10 years. This new generation is one of my all time favorites. It does an excellent job of providing a smooth comfortable ride while not sacrificing stability.

I am a bigger runner at 6’3” and 250 lbs and this shoe checks all the boxes I’m looking for. I highly recommend it!.

The shoes overall are great. Cutting corners quickly when maneuvering is slightly uncomfortable. I put in a warranty claim this morning because the soles of them were coming off after only 1 month. Never experienced this with my other Asics pairs.

First time ordering online direct. My other Asics were from 3rd party vendors. Again, great shoe. Just disappointed soles were coming off so soon.

My old ASICS are about 10 yrs old. With some superglue and new insoles they’ve been warriors all these yrs. My second pair of ASICS really, my first pair are my yard work shoes. Pretty much only wear these at the gym for workouts so they’ve never seen the pavement.

However with age some sole sections are sort of glazed over and they are a little slippery on the hardwood floors, so time to replace. So I turned back to ASICS. Overall I’ve found they offer a somewhat wide toe box area.

My foot is normally a D width but even in ASICS I go for the extra wide to be sure my toes have the space they need due to arthritic big toes. Got 4E and they are not excessively wide in my heel or mid foot, while my toes do not feel cramped like too many normal shoes that never fit me well.

These look a bit narrow in the toe area but they feel ok. Reasonable cushioning and comfortable fit for my cardio workouts. I don’t run due to toes problems but I do a lot of indoor power walking, step, cardio kickboxing and similar.

These shoes seem decent and should last me quite some time. I generally workout about 1 hr per day normally 5-6 days per wk, so not a heavy user. For my needs these are decent. At the half off pricing, it was a great deal.

When the sneakers finally arrived (almost a month) I was hoping they would fit and be comfortable, because I really need sneakers. They are very nice looking, but the toe box is too small. I had to return them.

What I never experienced when I attempted to try them on has never happened before: The laces on the sneakers were laced so tightly that I literally could not get my feet into them to try on. I could not loosen them at all, and unlacing them would have been my only option.

But unlacing each entire sneaker and then re-lacing would be difficult and very time consuming. And I was concerned that if I didn’t lace them up perfectly and then need to return them, they not be accepted for a refund.

I managed to loosen up one sneaker just enough to squeeze my foot in and see that I needed a little more room in the toe area. I hesitate to order a size up with Asics because of the laces situation, but the insole felt nice and cushiony and I wish they would have worked out.

Wonder if anyone else experienced this problem.

I’ve had these sneakers for a few weeks now and I have to say the 1st day of wearing them, I felt like I was walking on a cloud. They were so comfy! I walk everyday outside usually about 5 Miles and once a week I do 10 miles in one day.

After a few weeks the shoes are not as cushy but I’ve put a lot of miles on these shoes so unfortunately I’m sure I will have to purchase new ones in a couple months. The only problem, which is a problem I have with all shoes, is the width.

Now a lot of people say that they are wide but my feet are really wide at the top. I can never find a pair of sneakers that doesn’t have my foot leaning over the side of the shoe when I’m just standing.

The length of my foot would be between 8 1/2- 9 but bc of the width I always purchase a 10 wide and the foot still hangs over. I tried an 11 and my heal was slipping out. I can’t blame the shoe for this problem.

It’s just the way my foot is shaped.

Typical Kayano shoe, supportive, comfortable, I have had a number of previous models and based on this shoe I will continue to purchase Kayano’s in the future.

For the past 15 years or so, I’ve been a dedicated wearer of Asics. I’ve had the cheap ones; I’ve had the expensive ones. Sure, some lasted longer than others but none of them have ever been duds like these.

No matter how I tie them, it’s as if the whole area around the laces, sides, tongue, etc. are way too tight. The sole of the shoe also feels extra narrow. The heel and toe box are fine. The cushion of the bottom is nice.

I expected the areas around the tight middle to stretch and work out over time, but I’m ready to toss these. :(.

For nearly 2 decades I have worn ASICS for my wide feet (11D) because they have extra room in the front of the foot while firming hugging the back of my feet to prevent them from slipping in and out as I walk.

This is my first pair of Gel Kayanos and I am most happy with them. They are very similar to the GT 2000 7 and 2000 9 styles I own, but this shoe seems to have more cushion under the heel. I am a heel walker who strikes the ground hard with the heel and this cushion was evident the second I slipped them on and took my first step.

There are really no cons to this style and I will purchase the Kayano in the future, with the caveat that they either have splashes of bright color or are a neutral shade. It might seem that I would want to play down big feet with black shoes, but I find that lighter shoes with casual shorts or running shorts creates a longer, more fluid line on me.

I’m having a hard time wondering why some people negatively reviewed these shoes. I feel great in them and they’re the most comfortable pair of running shoes I’ve had in a LONG time. I have a larger foot, and I run wide at the forefoot and narrower down my feet and these shoes are perfect for the shape of my foot.

I am a true 11 and did not have to size up. The extra width provided enough space for the sides of my feet that tend to rub against the shoe. The cushioning is excellent and great for running on pavement, feeling little to no impact.

On the treadmill I don’t feel anything at all, very smooth ride! I have also walked a long distance in these shoes (can’t remember the distance) and my feet did not hurt or feel as tired as they normally get in other shoes.

I’m happy that my knees don’t hurt after wearing them after a few hours and I can easily use them for casual wear and while working in a warehouse too. I have very flat feet and feel very supported and cushioned in these shoes.

Not a ton of arch support if that’s something you’re looking for. There is SOME support just not a ton, I personally use orthotics for added arch support. I hope this helps someone! I’m really really happy!.

Let’s start from what I really like about it. For my feet it fits perfectly, like a second skin, it has good support, very well cushioned, and at the same time it springs you forward when you run. You have to tie shoelaces only once, when you put shoe on 🙂 I run two marathons in these shoes and after 26 miles my feet still fill OK.

Overall, near the perfect running shoe. The only problem, it did not lasted as long as I would like it to last. It is unfair to say my gel-kayanos lasted for just 3 month, as I run a lot, approx 120-130 miles/month.

So they lasted for approx 400 miles for me before the outsole has completely gone in the front, below the base of big toe. Heel is OK although. 400 miles not bad, but I had running shoes that lasted for 600 miles, so here is the space for some improvement 🙂 Despite such extensive use, shoes look like new after I washed them, so quality is really good!.

Good fit, high quality running shoe. Replaced 10 year old running shoes not previously used for running until I started running when the gyms closed after COVID19. Not surprised to realized the new shoes are exponentially better.

I like the leather trim on this model Gel-Kayano 26 and the design colors. Oh, did I mention NEVER run on worn out shoes unless you want to know which of your knees is worn out more. Extra set of laces included (nice touch) , but probably won’t get used before the recommended 250-400 mile replacement interval.

Have used 2 pairs of the Gel-Kayano 25 this year prior to purchasing the model 26. I would say the 26 are much more comfortable. Did not experience any “breaking in” shoe discomfort, like the typical “folded sock” when using.

I currently have around 120 miles on the 26 and been using them for about 2-1/2 months. The sole seem to be holding up good and do not have any tears.

I ordered these shoes because they seemed like the right fit for me (run long distances and need waterproof because it rains or heavy mists daily). I wore them once, and the gel part on the heel started coming apart from the fabric and the sole.

There were other areas that were falling apart as well. Shoes were also not as comfortable as I would like for a long run. On their website it says that this company stands behind their products; however, to make a return, the items have to be unused.

Submitting a warranty was horrendous. There is no satisfaction guarantee by this huge company! After speaking to multiple customer service representatives (so rude and provided little/ incorrect information) was finally able to submit a warranty.

After all that and about 3 weeks of waiting for an answer, I had bought another pair of shoes from a reliable company that actually stands behind their products with a guarantee, I was refused a refund! Only trades were allowed! Nevertheless, I will no longer be shopping with Asics.

I’ve been a wearer of ASICS going back over 30 years. In the past I wore both the Cumulus and the Nimbus when I was running 45+ miles a week and running races. I’ve kind of got out of shape with the Covid situation and with some not so kind words from my doctor I decided it was time to get back into shape.

I read reviews about the Cumulus and remembering when I wore them before that I liked the larger toe box. I decided to give the newest version a try. I’m primarily using them for walking with an occasional jog until I drop some weight.

They have great cushioning and stability. I ordered two pair to alternate for my walks/runs. I’m very happy with my purchase and when in need of replacements will be ordering again. I might add that being a retired military member that I really appreciate the 40% discount that I am given.

I love that I can easily slip these on and they stay snug in place. The size was exact for me, but I have a narrow foot. The running responsiveness is great. I felt like I could go a little faster using less energy and therefore increase my distance comfortably.

The problem was, after about 5 miles, they really begin to rub my skin in several places. It doesn’t happen if I wear socks, but these seemed like the perfect no sock shoe. It really was not fun the first time I realized this, mid long run.

And socks + these being so snug = hot feet. Sorry to say, but I would have gone with a different pair if I had known this in advance. Despite that, the quality is there. I can see these lasting many many more miles! I run 40-50 miles a week on roads and gravel trails for a reference point.

I purchased 3 pair of ASICS gel-kayano 27 a few weeks ago. They don’t all fit the same. They are all size 7. The pair that fits my foot comfortably and prevents my pronation is the “Mako blue/Hot pink” pair.

The box says it is made in Indonisia. My heel is comfortably seated and when I walk or run my foot is guided in the proper movement. The other pair is the “French blue/Champagne” pair. It is tighter in the toe area and squishes the toes together, not enough room, the heel area feels narrower and my foot does not sit comfortably – I can only wear them for 2 hours max in the house and then need to take them off.

This pair is made in Indonisia. Third pair is the “White/Sunrise red Tokyo”. It is very narrow and shifts the weight of my foot to the outer area, the midsection if my foot on the outside gets sore as it distributes my weight to that part.

The front of my toes is also squishing the toes together. Made in Vietnam. I have tried several times to contact ASICS in Canada – they are not accepting telephone calls right now and are redirecting all inquiries to be in the form of emails.

When you email them you receive an automatic reply that they are making some system changes and someone will eventually look at my inquiry. How can the same shoes in 3 different colours fit so differently.

No more ASICS for me. Now I need to research this pronation issue all over again. The third pair is the.

I wanted to love these since I have the Gel-Kayano 25 and Gel-Kayano 26 sneakers. Why did they change the design? The toe box is long and narrow and the heel pressed up against my achilles tendon and it hurt! Yes, a pair of sneakers did that! I returned the medium width and got a wide width thinking that would do the trick.

Nope! The toe box was still too long with extra room above my toes and the back heel was pressing so hard against my achilles tendon! OMG they went back too! I am disappointed. I really love my other Gel-Kayanos.

I also have a GT and Gel-Venture 8 with no issues like that. Please Asics go back to the 26 design for the upper shoe! Thank you!.

The regular width of these run narrow, so although wider than those, these may be more narrow than the typical wide shoe, if that makes sense. I have moderately wide feet, but I’ve never had to buy wide shoes in my life, even in all my many past Asics, even multiple past Gel Kayanos.

For me, moving to the wide width in my usual size made the right fit. These shoes, at least in this color, tend to do a weird crinkle thing in the material near the toe which is unfortunate for such an expensive, high level shoe.

Overall, they seem comfy enough. I hope they last and do not get all torn up in the lining around the heel/achilles like every single past Gel Kayano I’ve had before.

I wanted to love these, but alas. These shoes have a long history of solid reviews. Youll find them on most “top 20” lists. However, they’re not for everyone. First of all, the inside sole on the midfoot and heel comes out very fast from the boot of the shoe.

This makes them effectively so much wider that when I run it will occasionally hit the inside of the opposite ankle. I think this will be most bothersome for runners like me who are slightly “duck footed ” or whose toes point a bit medially instead of laterally.

This makes them nearly unusable to me. Secondly, the cushioning. I mean, its almost too much. Theyre like running on unresponsive sponged. You have zero natural feedback from the surface on which you’re running.

It makes them feel so sluggish. Lastly, the return policy. I didn’t check it before ordering. Took off tags to free the shoes up and then ran with them around the house to check fit and now I’m stuck with them.

No returns without tags attached is much stricter than most stores who happily accept returns as long as they haven’t obviously been used.

I have been suffering from severe plantar fasciitis with a bone spur since late summer 2021. In January, I had also developed 2 stress fractures. I was so worried that I would not be able to walk as the weather warmed up.

I decided to try these shoes on when I read ortholite on the tag. They felt very comfortable, cushioned insole, with arch support for my plantar fasciitis. These shoes are amazing! I am able to walk 4 miles everyday on different walking paths; concrete, gravel, black top, dirt and rock.

My feet ddo not hurt the entire time. I cannot explain it, but even when my feet ache from other shoes, when I put these shoes on, all my pain goes away. They even help my lower back and knee pain. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you give these shoes a try! They have saved my feet and I am able to walk everyday! I am between a 6 and a 6.

5 depending on the shoe. I bought a 6. 5 and absolutely love the fit! I have a medium width to my foot so I didn’t need to buy the wide. I so hope these shoes work as well for you as they do for me!.

Coming from being a regular user of the Novablast as there wasn’t any Goretex version of it, the first few days of walking in this pair of shoe were very tiring and uncomfortable unsurprisingly, as the distinctly reduced level of cushioning was immediately apparent however as the sole has mellowed out a bit, I can comfortably walk for a few kilometers at a go now.

The size while being the same as my Novablast, does fit well length wise though it is much narrower in terms of width but that is not a totally bad thing for a shoe for the cold and wet days however if you are wearing thick socks then it might be uncomfortable.

I have test it during light rains and drizzles, the Goretex upper holds true to its expected purpose so no complaints there. I just wish there were a few more colorways because I am definitely not a fan of this generic black/blue/red design.

By the way, the mid-sole is actually a nice shade of grey rather than white as displayed on the web here.

I picked these sneakers after reading the reviews. When I picked them up I was underwhelmed- they felt cheap and like they had no cushioning. Since it was so inconvenient for me to return them (the store is far and always super busy) my husband recommended I simply run in them because I only paid $15 and I had a $50 gift card from my sister.

I’m glad I listened to him- I have zero issues running now, and they feel like they support me the way I needed them. The other day I put my old sneakers on thinking they would be comfortable and all my old pains returned immediately (adidas).

I was shocked. My podiatrist had recommended that my sneakers be contoured and highly supportive, but I think my adidas was either over the top or wrong in the support I needed, and the ASICS, although lower key, was what my feet and legs needed to run longer and pain free.

If you’re having pain when you run, I’d definitely give these sneakers a try. Do I still believe these sneakers are cheap? No, because of their design. Does the material feel less fancy than the adidas sneaker? Yes, but I 100% prefer the ASIC now for my running and walking needs, maybe I’ll keep adidas as that “cute but uncomfortable sneaker” for outings.
